TL;DR
Decks
The choice of deck is a significant aspect of any skateboard setup. Blackriver decks are frequently mentioned, with sizes like 33.3mm and 34mm being popular among users [1],
[4]. The Chems low pro deck is another favorite, appreciated for its quality and design
[4:4]. For those looking for something unique, the Mictlan v2 Santa Cruz Pokémon deck was noted for its solid build and cool graphics
[4:2].
Trucks
Blackriver trucks (BRT) in 3.0 and 34mm sizes are commonly used and well-regarded for their performance [1],
[4]. Dynamic trucks are also a popular choice, especially in special editions
[4]. Users appreciate the stability and control these trucks provide, which is essential for ramp skating.
Wheels
Wheels can greatly affect how a skateboard performs on ramps. Illpills street wheels are frequently mentioned and loved for their performance [1:3]. Piro Performance wheels are another top choice, often paired with high-quality decks and trucks
[3]. These wheels are known for their durability and smooth ride, making them ideal for ramp setups.
Grip Tape
Grip tape quality is crucial for maintaining control during tricks and maneuvers. Black Velvet grip tape is highly sought after, with users willing to pay a premium for it [2]. GoriGrip Max tape is another recommendation, providing excellent grip and control
[3]. A good grip tape ensures that your feet stay firmly planted on the board, which is vital for executing tricks on ramps.
Bushings
Bushings are often overlooked but play a critical role in how a skateboard turns and feels. Stock bushings are common, but many users opt for upgrades like Level Up beta bushings or Teak bubble bushings for improved performance [1],
[4]. These bushings offer better responsiveness and can be tailored to suit individual preferences, enhancing the overall skateboarding experience.
In conclusion, the best ramp skateboard setup combines high-quality components like Blackriver decks and trucks, Illpills or Piro Performance wheels, and premium grip tape such as Black Velvet or GoriGrip Max. Customizing bushings and ensuring a proper grip job can further enhance performance, making your setup perfect for ramp skating.

5/10 but 10/10 for parts
It needs some fake brts
Y fake brts?
Inside joke, but I'd give it a 5/10 because alot of people have the combo
The fuck? Fake brts? Bro stop buying fake shit. Support the community and buy original
Bro the gripjob is fucked up if you want i can give you some tips on how to do It better
The grip job is ass sorry dude but apart from that 7-8/10
I concur. Looks like my kid did it. Looool
Clean!
I will pay nicely to someone willing to provide me with a single sheet, precisely, “black velvet” grip tape.
But anyways, here’s the setup: Kalye 32, dynamics, illpills
If you’re in Orange County, CA - I can provide
I live in Long Beach which might be a bit far, would mailing sound good? Griptape is fairly slim to mail through a standard envelope
sick setup. Am i tripping or are the top wheels loose?
Might have just been the angle but yea they look weird
ooooou that’s way too tuff for this millennium dawg
What’s a set up in yall’s collection that’s your top dog? Could be one you actively use or just a set-up that you enjoy looking at over and over.
I don’t use it much anymore but out of all 13 this is my Rolex in a sea of g-shocks per se or as I like to say this is my Ferrari set up. 😂
34MM December 32MM Blackriver 3.0 trucks Piro Performance wheels UAG GoriGrip Max tape. LevelUp beta bushings.
Currently my lowpro, hoping my snakehouses will take that spot but I likely won’t get them till next year lol
Either my 32 Goo or my 35 eggy Chems. Idk which I prefer.
love my chems mid-pro 🔥
My egg is a mid pro too. Its 🔥

Lemme know what you think
Dude that pokemon one is sick!! Good quality?
It comes in a random blind bag! The quality feels very solid. It’s bigger than the other boards by a little. I like it!
Just bought 2 lol
How long did it take to get your Pokémon board. Going on 1.5 months already and I don’t see any more of them on their website.
Like 3 months…..
Appreciate it!!! I’ll keep waiting lol
Gotta catch em’ all!
Everyone always posts their super nice set ups and they’re all mega nice however I want to see your beater set ups. The kind set up you use often and it’s good but not your nice go to set up but the set up you kinda don’t care what happens to it.

This is most of my first real set up coming from a tech deck and I still love it and use it. It’s definitely the board I grab when I leave the house if I’m afraid something might happen to it.
Let’s see some of those beater set ups !
A lot of my beater setups used to look beautiful like this one lmao the left one is up next
That’s a solid looking before and after haha
My wheel flew off yesterday. I also sanded the rest of the graphic from the board so it could be just a blank board. This is also older than my kids.
Hahaha hell yeah dude.
🤌🤌🤌🤌
Hell yeah.
Just swapped the trucks in to try out finally. (Have these trucks for months and haven’t properly shredded them.)
Chems 34 x Obsius 32 x Joycult x GoriGrip Max
I like to find nice griptape designs to complement my setup, I know some people think it's corny but I like a nice griptape design. Im struggling to decide which would look nicest with my new set up, opinions would be appreciated thanks :). My current set up is slides 1-3.
I’ve got purple camo grip tape and I get ripped on for it a bit but i like it so just go with what you like I reckon
I respect it
Damn that’s a cool board. Piano keys would look cool I think. Why is life so damn hard too
Yeah both are nice leaning towards the polar grip
Piano one!
Straight black or why is life so damn hard
I personally always go with black mob, I usually will cut it longways down the middle too so I get a stripe with whatever the top ply color is. I’m not a big fan of graphic grips but that’s just me
Nice! Hoping to snag an Eye and build it out very similarly!
The Roskopp Eye is a great one too! thanks for that idea, I might start collect boards HAHAHA
Love a reissue deck! Have fun!
Classic!
Straight out of the late 1980's.
Bones Brigade generation, best skateboarding years!
I’d have gone with slime balls

Trying to puzzle together my first ever setup. Imma mostly cruise around town on rough surfaces, but also wanna do some tricks. Built everything from different stores, cuz norwegian taxes are TOO MUCH. Plus planning on doing a similar griptape design as in pic 4. What do you think?
skating since 1982; that's a sweet setup I'd ride ANY day! ps: nice on the slayer trucks etc. more of a Metallica & Anthrax girl myself, but hell yes!!!
Amazing, thank you very much!! Anthrax is so good, id lowkey buy 1 Slayer truck and 1 Anthrax truck to pair em up lol:D
nice, that would ALSO be awesome! 🤘🏻
A+. You could arguably go for softer wheels, as those dragons I think are 93a durometer.
But the green on green with black trucks is fire.
Thank you very much! I have considered softer ones, but i would really like to join my local skating community at the skateparks sometime. I heard that these dragon wheels are greatly versatile for both rough cruising and tricks, so i opted for them. But ill definitely think more about it!:)
I rock 80a 60mm wheels at the park. By the time the advantages of smaller harder wheels really come into play you’re going to have worn out this setup and replaced it.
That’s to say don’t worry about what your first setup , what you like and works for you is really individual so no one else can tell ya and you can’t tell yourself rn.
But after riding for a bit you’ll get a better idea of what you like and what setup you want.
You can always swap out individual parts as you go or have multiple boards.
Looks good. Send it. Get some wax because those wheels will bite but no enough to need risers.
Thank you, will do!
Yeah looks like it’d be a good all round board, the wheels are on the larger side of non vert skating I think so should go over most terrain and the board isn’t super wide so it’ll flip easy if that’s what you’re wanting too. Can’t say I’ve ever heard of a deck being made of birch though, keep us updated on how it skates! Oh and for the grip art you wanna cut through the back of the grip tape it’s so much easier. Good luck!
Thank you for the advice on the grip tape and overall feedback! I will definitely keep you posted on the birch deck:D
*I've posted about this the other day, but I feel like I needed to be more specific about my needs and potential set-up.*
So after twenty years I've decided to pick-up skateboarding again and I feel like a kid in a candy store! I used to skate street on a low level. Some basic flip tricks, grinds and small stairs mostly. My plan is to mostly cruise while also practicing some ground tricks (let's say 80% cruising 20% tricks). I push mongo because I naturally ride goofy, but I can somehow only pop regular. So this is why I definitely want a popsicle deck.
I've fallen in love with this 8.5" Santa Cruz VX deck so my set-up starts there.
Now for the wheels I'm looking at OJ super juice 78A 60mm. I live in Amsterdam and the roads vary from great and smooth asphalt to pretty shit and rough brick roads in the older parts. This is why I'm leaning towards soft wheels that are as big as possible. I'm considering the Ricta Clouds 78A 60mm too.
I will most likely need 1/8" riser pads or maybe even 1/4" to prevent wheelbite. The deck has a medium concave, but from past experience I prefer my trucks really tight. Although for cruising a little looser might be good for me to get used to.

How will the height of the deck affect my ability to pop or do tricks?
My guess is that a higher deck is also less stable.

Could it be a better option to go for 56mm wheels for my needs?

As for trucks I'm not sure what size or brand I should get. I will have to order the deck (and wheels possibly) online as I can't get them in the local shops. I was thinking to take my deck and wheels to a shop to buy the right trucks, but I also feel like there might be trucks out there that will fit my needs the best that I won't be able to buy locally (Also for looks I think white or black trucks will look sick).
So any recommendation for trucks?

Anything that I'm missing or that can be helpful?

Any help is greatly appreciated!
Wow what a great graphic!
Yeah! I love it
60mm are big wheels, great for cruising, big and heavy for tricks. The OJ Keyframes are 87a so they’re soft, but sized like a trick wheel, 52-58mm. 56mm are a good in between. If you go 60mm you’ll want 1/4” risers.
As for trucks, you just need ones that fit 8.5 decks, just check the brand’s site or ask at a local shop, they’ll set you up right. I know for Independent trucks it’d be 149.
Thanks! Appreciated
Deck. : Flatface G16 Trucks. : Blackriver Trucks 3.0 Wheels. : Piro x 6skates perf comp Tape. : Fbs Extra smooth. Bushings : Stock might try 6skates blues The First setup i would consider "Pro" ive owned.
Fire. Piro wheels are awesome.
And did I read 6skates?? Do we have a fellow Toronto local??
It was between Piro or Maple, but I heard piro had the better grip, so I went with them first, and as a canadian gotta support ! And no, I'm not a Toronto local. I'm actually from BC just outside of vancouver area.
Fuck yeah bro I'm from Langley, just moved out here last year. I miss the Fraser valley but I don't miss the rain lol.
Piro with that color it's just a amazing
Those piros are so nice looking
best ramp skateboard set up
Key Considerations for the Best Ramp Skateboard Setup
Deck Size: Choose a deck width that suits your skating style. Wider decks (8.0" - 8.5") provide more stability for ramps, while narrower decks (7.5" - 8.0") are better for technical tricks.
Trucks: Opt for trucks that match your deck width. High trucks (above 50mm) are better for ramp skating as they provide more clearance for grinds and tricks.
Wheels: Use harder wheels (around 99A - 101A) for smooth surfaces like ramps. A diameter of 50mm - 54mm is ideal for ramp skating, offering a good balance between speed and control.
Bearings: Look for high-quality bearings (ABEC 5 or higher) for smooth rolling and durability. Consider ceramic bearings for even better performance.
Grip Tape: Choose a high-quality grip tape that provides good traction. A rougher texture can help with foot placement and stability on ramps.
Recommendation: A solid setup could be:
This setup balances stability, control, and durability, making it ideal for ramp skating. Always ensure that your components are compatible in size for the best performance.
