Detroit: Become Human
"Detroit: Become Human" is frequently mentioned as one of the top games where you play as a robot. This game offers a narrative-driven experience where players control androids in a story that explores themes of consciousness and autonomy [1:6],
[2:3],
[3:3]. The game is praised for its storytelling and emotional depth, making it a standout choice for those interested in robot-themed narratives.
Kenshi
"Kenshi" is an open-world role-playing game that features a race of robotic characters known as skeletons. These characters do not need to eat or bleed, adding unique gameplay elements [1:2]. The game is noted for its vast open world and the freedom it offers players, allowing them to create their own stories within the game's universe
[1:9].
Machinarium
For those who enjoy point-and-click adventure games, "Machinarium" offers a charming experience with its hand-drawn art style and engaging puzzles. Players control a small robot navigating through a beautifully crafted world [1:4],
[3:1].
Nier: Automata
"Nier: Automata" is another highly recommended game, combining action RPG elements with a profound narrative. Players control androids in a post-apocalyptic world, exploring themes of existentialism and the nature of humanity [5:1],
[5:6].
Armored Core Series
The "Armored Core" series is well-regarded among fans of mech combat games. Players pilot customizable mechs, engaging in fast-paced battles. While "Daemon X Machina" is considered a similar game, many fans still prefer the classic "Armored Core" experience [1:7],
[1:12].
Additional Recommendations
Other notable mentions include "Zone of the Enders," "SD Gundam Generations," "Daemon X Machina," and "Dynasty Warriors Gundam," which offer various takes on mech and robot gameplay [1:7]. For indie game enthusiasts, "Ghost 1.0" and "Dyson Sphere Program" provide unique experiences centered around robots and automation
[5:1],
[5:2].
So I've been on this roll of just playing games where I play as a robot and I've been having a blast!
I recently just finished Zone of the Enders and SD Gundam Generations
Well Kenshi is fitting every request and this is no exception.
Kenshi has skeleton race of characters who are all robots. And they do not need to eat and they don't bleed out.
Some robots are called skin bandits and they're probably the most frightening thing in a video game if you happen to have skin.
This game's great OP.
Machinarium is a fun little point and click game with a gorgeous art style.
Dynasty warrior gundam
Armored core series
Front mission series
Daemon x machina
Damascus gear series
Dual gear
Daemon x Machina looks fun! Thanks!
I wanted to try the Dynasty Warriors Gundam game for so long, but my PS3 died on me.
Strictly speaking, Daemon X Machina is an inferior version of Armored Core, but until FromSoft gets tired of that Dark Souls money train, it's the closest we've got to a sequel.
> Damascus gear series
If you can pick these up on their usual sales, I recommend them. At least, I played the first one and it was a surprisingly nice “Diablo” clone with mechs. Haven’t tried the second, but the screenshots seem to show an improvement.
Detroid; become human
Superb
>Detroid; become human
One of the best games I've ever played
Because it's great. I'll give you a few pros and cons, but in the end the atmosphere of it and the satisfaction that it brings is unmatched.
Pros:
There's a lot more to this game but I don't want to make this overly long.
Cons:
All in all, Kenshi is an impressive game that was made by a single guy, and he's now leading a team, working on Kenshi 2. There's only a handful of games that have "the soul" and this is one of them.
what it sacrifices in graphical capability it gains in depth and freedom. there are no other games on the market quite like kenshi.
In Steel Rising you play an Automaton, which is like a robot but steam powered. The only other one I can think of is a bit of a spoiler, but in >!Soma!< your consciousness is moved into a robot, but you don't know that at first, and it doesn't feel like you're playing one, it's just the narrative.
One thing I've noticed in virtually all robot protag games is that A) the setting is post apocalypse centric, B) the other enemies are also robots, or C) both of the above.
Livelock. All the Transformers games. Metal Arms for PS2. Scrapland. The list goes on.
These game are good, but scrapping other AI has been overused. To the gigahurts. O3o
I want a robot game where the enemies, bosses, and main villain are flesh and blood, organic human or humanoid beings. Predominantly.
The magnum opus only example of what I'm talking about that I know of is Borderlands 3, because of Fl4k. They're badass and not generic.
Is there ANYTHING else? I have a PS4 and Steam
Future Cop LAPD has plenty of flesh and blood enemies https://youtu.be/q7lpgon5xc0?t=143 It's set in 2098 so it's not post apocalyptic. You do fight against a lot of other vehicles too though so it's not just humans.
Detroit: Become Human
Robothorium, turnbased RPG. Primarily you fight robots, but there is a few humans mixed in.
Otherwise generally its going to be the games that have the odd robot character when everyone else is organic..
Easy. Detroit become human
Steamworld canon is lit
I hear Amazon is hiring.
You play as a robot in Machinarium and that's often to your benefit. But other characters are robots and it's more normalizing robot society than celebrating it.
I'm looking for games with character creation where you can choose to be a robot or an alien race like in Destiny 2. If you start as a robot but you cam customize your character as you progress it's also good. I've spent hours searching on Google but I haven't found anything that looks good. Maybe you can help me out.
Boarderlands, you can play as the clap trap
Specifically the pre-sequel
I love Borderlands but Cl4p-trap is not the kind of robot I'm looking for.
Portal. Maybe metroid or ratchet and clank?
You don’t play as a robot. You play as Chel. I know in portal 2, in co op, you play as a robot. But you can’t customize any character in that game
They're cool games, but as it's said above, you can't customise/create a robot character
So as the other guy said, you can't customise or create a robot character.
I've been trying to get into a new video game that can keep me interested and invested, since lately none of my past interests feel appealing to me. I'm up for trying any game, but I'm usually most interested in indie/heavily underrated games that I could play on pc/switch/quest 2. I'm fine with any difficulty or kind of game in general, my only personal preference would be games with robots in them. They don't have to be a central focus, I just like robots. A few games I've played and loved are:
I really don't mind genre too much, though I do prefer more chill/calm games. My only real turnoff is PvP games.
Definitely check out Dyson Sphere Program. You are a robot called Icarus that builds an interstellar factory. It's super chill and the visuals are beautiful.
Doom series. Elden Ring. Dark souls series. Yakuza series. No man’s Sky. What remains off Edith finch. Hades. Stay.
Armored core 6
Into the breach
I do like the look of into the breach, I'll try it out!
Also since you loved ultrakill I recommend looking into I am your beast.
Yesss. Both of those are excellent
Ghost 1.0 - a Metroidvania where you play as a being controlling a female android. Has a plot that mixes humor with sci-fi thriller.
Shadow Complex - a Metroidvania where you are a guy who infiltrates a secret government complex, gains upgrades to overthrow them and escape. It has some robots as enemies. One of the best Metroid-like games that isn't Metroid, despite the story and characters being forgettable.
Mega Man Zero/ZX collection - You are playing as a robot (or in ZX, a cyborg) who goes and hunts down evil robots to save everyone.
Nier Automata - almost every character is a robot of some kind. BECOME AS GODS.
SteamWorld series - all of them are fun and underrated and encompass a variety of genres, but are suitable even if you never played that genre. They take place in a post-apocalyptic Western, steampunk world where humans have devolved and nearly gone extinct, and, in one entry, in space. One of them is a fantasy fable.
Satisfactory - extremely addictive automation game that is worth trying even if you never played such a game. It's chill most of the time, with no time or resource limit, and only becomes tense when you are hunting down creepy things in deep caves. It doesn't really have robots per se, but your boss is an AI and you can eventually use drones.
I've heard really good stuff on Nier Automata, and Ghost 1.0 looks really good!
I've played all these games annoyingly, but they're great suggestions! I enjoyed all of them, just forgot to add them to the list
Why aren't there any like perhaps leveled missions Hitman-style games which focus on blackbox missions and beautiful graphics?
Not directly based on the Robots world, nor Hitman-style, but these two puzzle adventure games seem inspired by The Caves of Steel (I haven’t played either one yet):
Beneath A Steel Sky (1994) https://store.steampowered.com/app/1368340/Beneath_a_Steel_Sky/
Sequel: Beyond a Steel Sky (2020) https://store.steampowered.com/app/1146310/Beyond_a_Steel_Sky/
Cool, I'll definitely check those out!
I mean, if you consider a Virtual Table Top game the same as a "Video Game", it's particularly easy to homebrew a Foundation universe on top of Sine Nomine's "Stars Without Number", get some Sci-fi artwork and write up some adventures.
These days, you can use Stable Diffusion to create most, if not ALL of your Art assets with AI.
Then since Chat-GPT is well aware of the Asimov universe, you can have it give you planet descriptions, in-universe plot hooks, and all sorts of things.
Source - I am doing this. It's fun!
Edit: I am looking to find a group to play this soon due to little local interest. DM me if interested.
Robot City
robots of dawn from 1984 is the only proper video game based on asimov's work im afraid, and given it's a text adventure it has literally no graphics at all
I've always been obsessed with robots as a kid, and I like shooters as well. Pretty much any type of shooter is great, but I'm looking for one more slow and normal since I've just beat Ultrakill and Titanfall 2. I modtly play through Steam and Xbox 1. Thanks fellas!
Roboquest, co-op or single player fps roguelite where you play as a robot fighting against other robots, very fun.
Knew this would be right at the top. Actually GOAT'd coop roguelike. The movement is second to none, super fast paced and satisfying
I’ve been playing this lately it’s fun.
hey
To wish to gain sexual gratification from that we have created is nothing more than degeneracy and a perversion of a perfect form.
I enjoy the machine. I do not want to fuck it. This is no place for you.
You misunderstand me. I am a pervert, that much is true, but i do not seek to use these robotics merely for my own pleasure. I wish to appreciate their metal forms in the most carnal way, however if these feelings are not reciprocated, if the machine feels no love for the flesh, i shall abstain and apologize for my intrustion. Such is my duty.
To share passion with them, to intertwine their gears and bolts with my biological secrets, that is my wish - not my demand. Of one seeks to merely play Doom i would be more than happy to relinquish my depraved thoughts to the void and to spend time with the machine, not as a lustful being of flesh, but simply as a friend.
No Fisto from Fallout NV?
Oh slow & normal? Mechwarrior 5 full stop. Clans if you want the arcade experience & strong story line, Mercenaries if you want the 500+ hour sandbox experience with multiple curated DLC adding new story-lines & more repeatable game content (ESPECIALLY with Steam mods, I’m at 1400 hours on Xbox).
If you really hate the tank-Like controls (legs & Torso turn separately), you can switch to First Person Control Mode so the mech auto-aligns & slightly more mobile.
Iron Brigade I also recall enjoying, but I don’t remember anything about it beyond the name 😅
I put a hundred hours on Xbox and bought it on Steam just to use workshop. Mod scene is amazing, the bot combinations are insane.
When I eventually move to PC, Mercenaries with mods might be a higher priority than Skyblivion or finally playing Half-Life Alyx (think it’s still the best VR game but not available on Meta Quest).
Just dropping a comment to come back later to get ideas.
Technically a cyborg, but Robocop: Rogue City is a great game.
I love scifi games, and I’m looking for what to add to my list of what to play, here’s what I play a lot:
Fallout Bioshock DOOM Any Warhammer game FNAF Bendy and the ink machine Poppy playtime Skyrim
I do intend on becoming a game dev, as for the last 3 years I’ve been endlessly concepting my own scifi horror shooter game with robots in, so I like robot games too
Please send your suggestions! Thanks in advance!
As many others have mentioned:
Mass Effect
Prey
The Alters
Prey
Deus Ex
Mass Effect Legendary Edition
Halo series
Cyberpunk 2077
Prey. Absolutely play Prey. (2017)
Damn you beat me to it. I really loved how open that game was. And how many things you could skip with the gloo gun. I must have beat that game a dozen times.
Even Prey (2006) works too.
Amazing game!
The Alters was an absolute hidden gem for me.
Trying to keep spoilers to a minimum but these are some of my favorites. Mass Effect 2 is my favorite game of all time.
Disco is more science fantasy but the world is just so interesting.
At a loss how to put this in more specific words, as in the gameplay or actual genre. Main criteria are that is has lots of robot experimentation: building and customizing your robots, adding cool features to them, different types of robots with different uses and a plethora of possibilities to explore through the game. And a solid sense of progression, as in - not just an empty robot building sim but an ACTUAL game with a campaign or at least goals to aim for and enemies to fight.
Don't know where this obsession came from all of a sudden but I'm in that kind of mood. I suppose there are some base (robot? lol) building games or maybe RPGs that focus on this. But for the life of me, I can't find anything that fits what I want and I've been diggin through Google's AI slopfest for about an hour. The best I could find in the base building/ automation category is the upcoming Warfactory, which is kind of what I'm aiming for in that it focuses on building up your machine army, upgrading it, conquering in a bit of a 4X way, unlocking techs. Looks really cool but to my disappointment, there's not even a tech demo to try out so I have nowhere else to turn to (and r/robotics prolly ain't a good fit since I want a game).
I know this is prolly a tall order and a darn superspecific one at that, but what games do you know that match what I described above? For reference, I already played all the Deus Ex games but that's not really what I'm aiming for, not that cyborgs and cybernetic themes are outta the question. So - go, anything is free game :)
In the meantime, cheers and hope y'all are having a nice cool week wherever you are
I got you mate:
- https://store.steampowered.com/app/585420/Trailmakers/
- https://store.steampowered.com/app/1078920/Main_Assembly/
- https://store.steampowered.com/app/347040/Keebles/
All are decent in their own way, and I have sorted them by amount of hours of fun to be had, from top to bottom (at least in my personal opinion)
Only thing that is missing are enemies to fight.
Thank you, I think I'll find something between these 4 to keep me occupied. Shame that there's no combat cuz robot on robot action (not in that way lol) is a part of the experience I'm after. Guess this'll have to do till Warfactory drops
Cheers!
Nimbatus is a really fun game about building drones
TERRATECH
Would Terracraft World fit your needs? In it you build a vehicle that you control, as well as a base.
Otherwise Robot Arena 2,which is an ancient game at this point, so you have to get it from 'somewhere'.
Hmm... There's that game series from FromSoftware, I forgot the name, that is all about mechs.
Penny- RWBY
Iron Giant- Iron Giant
Omnidroid- Incredibles
Mechagodzilla- Godzilla franchise
Dreadtrux- Dinotrux
For me, he represents all of Transformers for this question.
A2 is my favorite from Automata
https://i.redd.it/431juizqa7qf1.gif
It's such a great game
I’ve never played that game, but suddenly, for some reason, she’s my favorite robot. Not sure why though
One of the right answers. It’s Him, WALL-E, Iron Giant and bender
Machine, there has been an update, I am in your prostate now
Gabriel in the Prostate of Hate
It'd be hilarious if he ended up in Warhammer and Khorne was like " Yup, you're being adopted, please resist it will be a good bonding experience."
EVE is better, fight me.
Wall-E would probably agree
Wall-E on top of the comments?! Yay!
