Zeus Shield
The Zeus Shield is widely regarded as one of the most powerful and enjoyable aspects in Hades. The special attack deals damage per hit as it spins, making it effective for clearing rooms when paired with boons like Dionysus' Hangover or Zeus's Thunder [2:1]. The build known as Zeus^2 involves using Zeus Special on the Zeus Shield, aiming for Zeus Double Strike and Static Discharge to maximize damage output
[4:2]. This shield is favored by players tackling the hardest difficulties due to its consistent strength
[4:1].
Chaos Shield
The Chaos Shield offers a unique playstyle with its ability to throw multiple shields at once. A solid build includes pairing it with Dio/Ares/Zeus on special and a percentage buff on attack [5:1]. Another popular setup involves Dread Flight, Curse of Pain, and Impending Doom, allowing the special to apply Doom to multiple enemies safely
[5:6]. This aspect is praised for its versatility and ease of use, often leading to successful runs even at higher heat levels
[5:5].
Hidden Aspect
The Hidden Aspect of the shield is considered one of the strongest options for speedrunning due to its high DPS potential [2:5]. It pairs well with Poseidon cast and infernal soul or Dionysus cast with stygian soul
[5:1]. Players appreciate the "cast nuke" capability, which can quickly dispatch bosses and tough enemies
[2:6].
Experimentation and Personal Preference
While certain shield aspects are favored for their power and effectiveness, personal preference plays a significant role in choosing the best shield. Experimenting with different builds and boons can lead to discovering new strategies and playstyles that suit individual tastes [2:7]. Some players enjoy the standard shield with Poseidon's knockback effects for crowd control
[2:3], while others find joy in exploring unique combinations like Artemis special and Dionysus dash
[5:4].
Additional Resources
For those seeking more detailed guidance on shield builds, there are resources available online that provide comprehensive build ideas for all shield aspects [5:3]. These guides can offer valuable insights into optimizing your shield setup for various challenges within the game.
Yet another absorber bot that dropped to tier 3, Hades is very similar to ares in terms of playstyle, but does boast a few differences namely being it's large durability. Don't turn your head when you see Hades as it's retribution can hit hard and accurately!
Hardpoints: Hades has a good set of 2 lights and 1 heavy alongside it's retribution, allowing it to take out some of the more tanky enemies. Decay/blight, hel/snaer, smuta/razdor, jotunn/morana, screamer/howler or nucleon/quarker will all perform excellently.
My choice is Hel/Snaer as the burst damage it provides is excellent alongside the freeze effect, making them great for big damage and supporting the team. It's long reload can also be managed using cover.
Hussar/Hel can be a solid choice if you want pure burst damage, but I don't really recommend mixing weapons. Magnetars/subduer can be a solid support build too
Drones: Shai, seeker or paralysis will work well here
Shai is my choice as the first stand helps Hades survive an onslaught from enemies early on, and with Hades impressively high durability for a mid range bot, you can make it quite durable with the defence points shai provides
Paralysis is actually my close second choice as Hades version of retribution only shoots 3 shots instead of the many rockets/energy beams ares and nemesis shoot, so the lockdown is absolutely perfect, however the lack of phase shift (forced to use repair unit, advanced repair unit or UC to take full advantage of paralysis) lowers its usage for me
Specialisations: Damage dealer with nuke amp, overdrive unit, nuclear reactor and phase shift is ideal here.
Hades greatly benefits from the nuke amp as over time it will be able to deal massive damage to enemies, and the phase shift is brilliant for getting out of sticky situations.
As usual, advanced repair unit will work with paralysis too and UC should also work
Tactics to play: Hades is you answer to mid range fights
The best way to play hades is to hide when you are recharging while providing supportive fire and then coming out and dealing as much damage as possible (same as ares and nemesis)
One way to do this is to cover allies with your absorber to protect them and build up damage boosts for retribution and target the most dangerous enemy to deal as much damage to them as possible. If you can master this method of playing hades then you will be one of the best team players in the game (same as ares and nemesis again)
Another way to use hades if force an enemy into a 1v1, activate the absorber and deal as much damage as possible. Enemies will usually panic shoot your absorber if they are cornered which will let you build up the retribution damage to extremely high levels. (Same as ares and nemesis AGAIN)
Hades only shoots 3 shots of retribution, so ensuring you can hit all of these is essential if you want to maximise your chances of success. If you miss even one of these shots, it massively lowers Hades presence on the battlefield.
Hades is also supprisingly durable after all the durability buffs it's received, so it can take some punishment if needed. However, don't overestimate yourself as you will wind up dead with Hades when trying to keep it out of cover for too long.
It's also important to have a positional advantage over enemies as you get a 30% speed reduction in your ability meaning that fast enemies can charge into your absorber to kill you, so keeping your distance and preferably the high ground really does help hades
LP Benefits: Lillian isn't much, but she helps Hades deal damage with more mid range weapons.
The 100m extra range she gives is useful but not game changing, so if there is a weapons specific pilot (Otto) you want to use them you can consider that.
For skills, damage is first with speed being next. Defence isn't really useful on Hades as you want to keep your distance and deal as much damage, as quickly as possible, so getting the most amount of damage you can put if Hades is essential. Speed skills allow you to reposition Hades easily
Counters: Shieldbreaker is obviously the best, so any method of shieldbreaker should make quick work of hades.
Emp also hurts as hades can't take advantage of its absorber
Teleport bots like shenlou or revenant will deal with hades quickly, phase shifters like ravana, samjok and angler can avoid the retribution shots and anything fast like lynx can get inside the absorber and kill hades. Anything that can quickly dodge the low amounts of retribution shots will be useful too, so Skyros, imugi and bagliore (teleport away) are some examples.
This post was again requested by my friends in Elysium and Ravenous Cannons so let me know if I missed anything out!
One of my favorite bots that have been eating dust in my hanger for a year, it was my first maxed out bot
Composite Hades is one of the best Looking bots out there, change my mind
Absolutely beautiful bot, but ophion takes my heart
Why is ophion so mid for me
Flair checks out, i also like the Solid Jeager Design and Ardent Behemoth designs
I’m gonna have to upgrade my Imperial Hades after reading this 😁
I have 4 clears and now am gonna try the shield which I have never used before. Which aspect should I start with? What’s most powerful?
unpopular opinion: zag shield is best shield. and i like it with poseidon attack for extra pinball
Just my opinion but Zeus's Aegis is my favorite, because when you throw it (the Special), it deals damage per hit as it spins. Paired with Dionysus' Hangover or Zeus's Thunder, it can easily clear a room while you wait safely in a corner.
The standard shield with Poseidon's knock back on Special is also great "stay away from me" usage.
Okay the standard shield is insane with posiden and Zeus when you get their duo plus jolted and other knockback effects you can clear rooms with single shield throws.
Yeah I really haven’t experimented at all with Zeus’ boons sounds like the shield will be a good match
I haven’t used a lot of Zeus’ boons so that will be a nice change of pace. I’ll start with that aspect!
One of the most fun things about Hades is the more you play you will see your opinions on boons change quite a bit.
Experimenting is the best thing about this game
Because I played since Beta Chaos will always be my favorite. Hidden is probably currently the “strongest” in terms of speed running but Zeus is one of the most unique weapons in the game and I really ADORE a lot of the higher skill weird playstyle ones like that. I probably use zag the least but it has some fun builds and I think pre aspect unlock the base shield is a great tool for early game players. There is a reason it’s likely the most popular weapon
Hidden shield for me, cast nuke goes brrrr
The hidden aspect is probably the strongest, but I'd actually say the Zeus aspect is the most enjoyable.
Check out the crazy boons I got, build was so good, perfect for every situation :D
Best shield build is a bit farfetched here. It is a very good cast build for sure, but can be used with any weapon. The shield itself doesn't have much to do with the rifts which I'm assuming were your main source of dps since you showcased it. Nonetheless, good job beating heat 7.
I'm actually more amazed you got the Ares legendary. I thought you needed the Ares dash into either rift pull or rift size pre-requisite to even get a chance to spawn the legendary. Guess not.
You do, but they could have sold them after they got ‘em because rift size isn’t super important when they’re heat seeking. Obviously duration would be good, but maybe that’s not the one they got.
You should try this with Achilles Spear
Woulda been nuts with Beowulf
I'll go first.
Fyi I only started playing recently and I've reached Hades twice with these only weapon I'll gotten to Hades with
If we are talking about objective consistent strength, it certainly seems to be Zeus Shield, the favored weapon of people who fight the hardest difficulties of the game.
If we are talking about speed running highroll power, last I checked, Beowulf and Hera bow were on top of that world
If we are talking about the easiest weapon for a noob to highroll and win with, my choice would be showing someone how to use the eris rail gun.
If we are talking about my favorite weapon, it's the eris rail (I am the noob who likes high rolling)
What build do you aim for with Zeus shield?
With Zeus shield? The build is called Zeus^2.
You put Zeus Special on Zeus Shield. Aim for Zeus Double Strike and Static Discharge.
That’s the main damage engine.
There are other goodies to aim for. Like Artemis Pressure Points.
Lightning Rod is a pretty decent duo to slap onto this build if you luck into it.
Something like Dio cast for the Zeus/Dio duo also works.
If you fond Demeter. The Dio/Demeter duo also slaps. (Zeus/Demeter sucks. Any Zeus build will be applying Jolted fast enough that Cold Fusion is worthless. Its best use is being sold for a good chunk of coin. )
You could add Aphrodite and aim for Aphro/Zeus duo.
Heck you could try aiming for the Zeus/Ares duo as well if you felt so inclined.
There are so many goodies that you can add to a Zeus^2 build that you have many build options available. So much fun to be had.
I think people tend to look for Poseidon on attack, and Zeus on special, then seastorm duo.
For top tier heat runs, I think they just want Zeus special and anything else is a bonus because they are in hell
Yeah if you're getting objective it's Shield or Bow and they pretty much aim for the same set up (Dionysus my beloved), so they're pretty interchangeable.
Eris Rail over Hestia for noobs? Maybe it's just me, but as a relatively mid player, Hestia is way simpler to just dash, shoot, reload, repeat for the entire run and just mash high damage boons onto the attack/dash strike.
I think shield is the most noob friendly. Being able to nope out of chaotic situations by just standing in a corner holding right click is super useful before you get a feel for the enemies' behaviour.
Rama Bow was the second aspect to clear max heat, so you're not entirely wrong. It is still extremely strong. The blocking ability of the shield tips it over to being better.
Especially with Epic Zeus on your special. Absolutely MELTS bosses. Then if you can get the boon that causes lightning to strike twice sometimes chefs kiss
Try it w Poseidon special, sea storm, p status, concentrated, relentless, chaos special buff, d strike, Zeus legendary, and hyper delivery. THAT melts bosses
Hands down the blade of Arthur
Edit: saw your footnote, in that case zeus shield shreds like fuck all
Came here for Sword of Arthur. First time using it I saw a 1k+ damage number and in that same run I got a 2.2k backstab on hades. Probably the fastest hades kill I had.
Hi all! I'm about to play my 100th escape attempt, and the only weapon I haven't reached the surface with is the shield. I have all it's aspects unlocked, but I always seem to lack the sheer DPS needed to finish the job. Does anyone have any advice for good shield builds? Aspect/skills/boons/keepsake etc?
Thank you in advance for your time!
Dread Flight + Curse of Pain + Impending Doom (not compatible with Aspect of Zeus)
Throw your Special at an enemy or a wall and it will go nuts, flying everywhere and applying Doom to everything. It doesn't have the best DPS against the last boss, but it's such a safe build that you'll rarely get hit, even if the fight takes a bit longer than with other weapons and builds. I've gotten Perfect Clears against EM4 many times. Just Dash away and throw Specials at the enemy or at a wall (it will also take care of the exploding skulls before they go off, that's part of the reason the build is so safe).
Just wanted to thank you. I was struggling getting past Elysium with spear and bow (my previous favorite weapons). The first time I ever picked up shield, I targeted your build (Got everything except Impending Doom) and I cleared all the way through Hades first try.
That said, while I managed to save all my DDs until Hades easily, and I entered the final battle with close to full health, I used ALL my DDs and finished him off with around 10 health... So clearly I'm not the most skilled! But its still my first clear!
Thanks again!
Congratulations!
This was one of the first builds that ever got me to the end. Still holds a special place in my heart, even though there are faster ways.
Yeah, I love it and still use it whenever I can. It's the only build that got me through 32 Heat on each of the three compatible Aspects.
Awesome! Thank you for the suggestion!
I've only ever had Dead Flight once, but pairing it with Doom sounds awesome!
Here’s some ideas for all of the shield aspects.. Good luck!
Rad! Thank you very much!
I had a good time with the Chaos aspect (5 extra shields when thrown), Dread Flight, Dashing Flight, Artemis special, Ares attack, Dionysus dash, and all 3 duo Boone between them: Hunting Blades, Curse of Nausea, and Splitting Headache. Everything tracked enemies, every hit could crit, and I had 5 casts. It was really fun.
Beowolf, with trippy flare and scintillating feast, and anything you can get your hands on that boost cast damage for example: mirage shot, parting shot, chaos boon(s) etc. And for a bit of spice high tolerance
Edit: as the bot says, etc
Chaos shield with dio/ares/zeus on special and a % buff on attack is always solid and easy to play. Otherwise hidden aspect running either poseidon cast with infernal soul or dio cast with stygian soul
Ah Hades my beloved. Let's start with the basics. Hades has its own version of the ability Retribution, with the usual absorber shield and a three round kinetic gun. Hades is often overlooked by the other robots of its series (Ares and Nemesis), however, it manages to outperform all of them if played correctly. Above all, Hades is CONSISTENT. No matter what your situation is, no matter your position, durability, or state of the game, Hades will perform well.
The ability: Hades has its own version of the Retribution ability, having an absorber shield for a short duration, which is then followed by three precise shots from the built-in kinetic gun. After the Nemesis buff, Hades has acquired the position as the robot with the lowest absorber shield duration. However, this doesn't make it useless. In fact, it makes it a bit more reliable as the short 12 second cooldown allows you to consistently use the ability to go on the offensive rather than use it defensively. And the gun. Oh boy the gun. The damage of this thing is ABSURD at higher levels. Even the most powerful of energy shields can't hold up against the full force of all three shots. It is by far the most reliable weapon out of all the Retribution abilities, being a quick, precise, and powerful attack that can be used for any situation.
Weapons: Hades has a decent 1 heavy and 2 light hardpoints, giving lots of options for possible powerful setups. Any midrange weapon will work with Hades, but there are a few options that stick out as better than the others. 1 Nucleon and 2 Quarkers are great choices, as they contribute to that consistency that I mentioned earlier, being able to fire whenever and deal good damage at mid-close range. 1 Screamer and 2 Howlers is also a good choice, given that the Condor weapons are just plain good. 1 Puncher and 2 Magnetars is great in combination with the Retribution ability, having enemies stand still to be hit by all three shots.
Pilots: Hades is pretty tame when it comes to pilots. The Hades-specific pilot is pretty mediocre, giving the built-in weapon an extra 100 meters range, which isn't exactly game-changing. It's recommended to use either Adrian or Manni for the extra damage. For pilot traits, mechanic, road hog, or anything that increases health, gives defense points, or increases damage is perfectly viable.
Drones: There are a few good options for Hades drone-wise. Any drone that increases damage or survivability is viable. The best ones in my opinion are Reviver, Shai, Armadillo, or Pascal. Pascal is probably the worst of the few due to the nerf, but it still works well enough to be viable. Also, please don't use Persephone, even if the description of it specifically reccomends Hades. It doesn't work unless it's upgraded to the point where it offers regen, and even then it's still practically useless.
Specialization: Damage Dealer with Nuclear Amplifier and Overdrive Unit tends to be the most reliable for me, but regular attack and defense paths work fine too. Choose what works best for you. For active modules, U.C. and phase shift are both good options.
Tactics: Using Hades can be difficult at first if you don't know what you're doing. Relying too much on the shield will often end in disaster, and misjudgment of the weapon will often cause you to miss. Try to get used to the duration and cooldown of the ability, and use that knowledge to determine good times to either rely on the ability defensively or offensively, as well as determine good opportunities to hit enemies with all the shots. The short duration of the attack allows you to more often land the entire barrage on enemies ducking in and out of cover. You can also try to pop your ability early to predict and land shots immediately as an enemy steps into your line of fire.
Counters: Like most robots, Hades has its limits. With the recent U.C. nerf, Hades shield is now only susceptible to shieldbreaker effects from abilities, drones, and pilots (because let's be real, nobody uses the shieldbreaker module). Crisises are also a problem, as they have a natural shieldbreaker and damage boost that effects counters your shield. To deal with them, simply stay behind cover until they target another player, to which you can then either attack or reposition. Other common annoyances include teleporting robots such as Scorpion and Shenlou, as the shield doesn't protect from point blank attacks. Luckily there are a few ways to avoid them, one of which being moving backwards after using your ability. By increasing distance, the shield is able to protect against the attacks. If you try to do this, expect that the enemy will try to follow you to stay within your shield. You can also use this to your advantage by luring your attacker towards the rest of your team, where they will then be forced to retreat. Or die. Either one works. If you REALLY want to counter Scorpions and Shenlous, then the Whiteout drone is a good choice. While it doesn't provide any useful effects to a normal Hades playstyle, making teleportation robots unable to escape is very useful to get some free hits in, and maybe even a kill.
Summary: Hades is good. It isn't the most powerful, or the most underrated, but it gets the job done, and it gets it done well. Once again, Hades is CONSISTENT. It's reliable. It holds its own in higher leagues, and is a good choice for any player. It's versatile, mobile, surprisingly tanky, and hard-hitting. A multi-purpose robot soldier. The perfect balance of damage, protection, and mobility.
So uhhhh u/Happygamer18777 posted this a week ago and was cross posted by the same clan that very day.
Happy hunting!
Damn
He's been doing stellar guides!! He's the word version of Adrian's YouTube videos 😂😂
Sorry about that, but I loved your write up, it was very detailed and I liked the whiteout especially for countering teleporters. Nice work :)
Nice tutorial?
title
Edit: ended up getting chaos
I like Zeus because you can use it as a standing trap of sorts with the special, but Chaos is pretty fun too.
Beowulf only slightly above Chaos. The issue is that lvl 1 or 2 chaos doesn't make a huge difference. It's incredibly strong once you upgrade it a few more times, but then it becomes an expensive investment early on.
10000000% Chaos everytime for me. get Doom or Hangover on the special and it's a winning run
i am not used to bull rushing yet. do i just do it whenever i want to attack an enemy and they are far away/ when i need to block attacks?
The trick around getting used to bullrushing is realising just how powerful the shield's block is.
I'm not sure there's anything in the game that it can't block so long as you're facing the attack, including Hades' sun ray attack and the skulls that explode outwards.
With that in mind, it's very easy to hold bullrush to wait for the enemy to attack, then throw out all your shields, rinse repeat with a few regular attacks here and there to clean up.
yes & yes. Bull Rush is your best friend even if you don't charge it up all the way. It's all about going full Captain America and throwing as many shields as you can with some status or inflated damage. There are a few hammers that change the properties of the Bull Rush allowing for some pretty fun and powerful combos.
Honestly all of the shield aspects are quite strong. The three non zag aspects are borderline op, so just pick your style.
Going to preface this that you should play what's most fun for you as all aspects are viable. These are more so which aspect is strongest, as "best" can be really subjective.
Hidden shield is pretty insane by all metrics. It's likely the fastest/highest DPS weapon in the game as long as none of it's "bugs" get patched, only needs a few boons to clear, and is one of the best weapons at high heat. Arguably strongest aspect in the game.
Zeus aspect is likely the next best. Has reasonably high damage output with Zeus special, but honestly almost any special boon works on it. Also fantastic at high heat, really safe and versatile, and has a lot of inherent damage built into the aspect.
Chaos is generally considered below average and underwhelming as it really lacks boss damage/damage overall. Its really easy to pilot though and clears rooms pretty quickly with Zeus/Dio/Ares special so it's a good pick up for newer players. I used it for a long time and it was my first 32 heat clear.
Zag shield is.. alright. Base damage is really valuable but it's just hard to build around imo.
Hades 2 has so many cool weapons, with complete and complex kist. I really like em all!! Unlike hades, I only really enjoyed the bow and sometimes the rail/spear
Tbh, unlike hades 1 where I liked every weapon âpart from spear, i dont like most weapons in hades 2. I like the axe and the sister blades. Thats all. Tho I started playing recently. Its been 10 hours. (Have beaten chronos 2 times, have encountered typhon 1 time but havent beaten him)
For me it is the same way, Hades 1 weapons were all cool and I had lots of fun experimenting with them and the builds, however in hades 2 I struggle to find a weapon I wanna bring with me. Favourites would be the staff and coat, but I can't complete few runs with them without getting kinda bored of the gameplay loop
Also, 2 Chronos kills and u got to typhon in 10h? Thats damn impressive
It might take a while to click. For me it took anyway, I wasn't really vibing with the combat initially on any weapon. Took a break from the game for several months, came back, started a new save and immediately went "oh ok I get it now". The game requires some unlearning of the Hades 1 habits.
I'm partial to the Melinoe aspect axe. Hit hard, get hit a lot, win anyway.
Mel axe with Aphro atk got me my first wins against Chonos, Eris, and Prometheus (Eris and Prometheus were same run).
Axe is all round bangin, thanatos axe with every attack speed buff in the game makes it %100 faster than the other two if you get an ungodly amount of luck. Charon ace is just a massive big damage aoe killier
Plus the crit with success rate goes hard af
I'm surprisingly liking the weapons in Hades 2 more than the original. In the original I only really liked the spear and bow. Here I like all the weapons except the skull and torches.
So far my absolute fav has got to be Aspect of Pan sister blades, followed by Melinoe black cloak and Momus staff. Really looking forward to seeing their hidden aspects in action!
Skulls are my favourites, the omega attack is like having a rocket launcher and if you get possessed array upgrade you turn into a walking nuke. I really enjoy all the weapons I'm using the staff a lot at the moment with aspect of momus but I just find it funny how people really have diverse opinions on This subject, which shows how good and balanced the weapons are.
Try torches with aspect of Moros!!! Shoot, then gt close with special then boom. It's pretty fun. Not my favorite but I didn't like em until I tried this aspect
I did try Moros torches but didn't quite get the hang of them. Gonna give them another go the next time they grant extra bones!
I bring the axe out most of the time, Thanatos aspect specifically.
Hi. Im creating an alt account to be used primarily as a defense ship to protect relic production in WStars. What's the best defensive rig in your opinions?
As far as shields, from my experience ally shield and blast shield are the two best shields for a defense build. After that for weapon I’m a fan of chain ray for the extra range but mass batt works well to if you’re in a two to three person defense group (ideally you mix mods/weapons/shields to have multiple options for coverage). For support mods I’m a fan of teleport and barrier (a must on every defense build imo), and some sort of combination of suspend, emp or bond. For drone I like chain ray turret a lot but I’m not sure what would be considered best mod for that slot but with cr/crt being a staple of a lot of builds these days i think it compliments the team well if you have multiple ships/drones that can provide linking coverage. I only have bs5 atm so with my corp when I’m on defense I usually run some variation of that build and mostly successfully.
That being said with an alt account I’m not to sure what you’d be using until bs5 as I can’t recall the last time I saw a bs below that level in a White Star.
My Alts BS is level 4 - Chain Ray 10, RGen 11
Nice. Was that an account you had before DN launched or something you started after the relaunch?
Send that shield out and watch it destroy everything in its path. What a killing machine.
That's it, that's the whole post. Enjoy.
This was my first sub 10 run build ever. Add Double Strike, Jolted, Explosive Return hammer and maybe Tidal Dash+Rupture and the bull with his friend goes down in under 10 seconds.
An Aspect of Zues enjoyer? I never thought I'd see the day
