What Redditors are Saying

Best Weapons in Hades 2

TL;DR The Axe and Sister Blades are popular choices for their versatility and damage potential, while the Staff is favored for its stability. The Flames and Skull have mixed reviews but can be powerful with the right build.

Axe

The Axe is frequently mentioned as a top choice due to its high damage output and ability to block damage [1:1], [5:1]. Players appreciate its special attack, especially when paired with boons like Apollo or Aphrodite, which can turn it into a powerful room-clearing tool [1:6], [5:6]. However, some players find the animations slow, leaving them vulnerable to attacks [5:5].

Sister Blades

The Sister Blades are another favorite, praised for their aggressive playstyle and synergy with certain boons, such as Aphrodite's attack and backstab damage bonuses [5:2]. They require hammer and boon support to maintain their effectiveness throughout runs [5:1]. Their versatility allows players to switch between ranged and close combat effectively [2:4].

Staff

The Staff is noted for its stable performance and mobility-enhancing special [2:2], [2:3]. It resembles the spear from Hades 1, offering a familiar playstyle for returning players. While not immune during its special, the Staff provides consistent damage and is considered reliable by many [2:3].

Flames

Opinions on the Flames are divided. Some players find them weak and difficult to aim [5:1], while others believe they have high potential when focusing on magic and hammers [5:3]. The Aspect of Moros can enhance their effectiveness, allowing players to set up powerful omega specials [2:7].

Skull

The Skull weapon has its fans, particularly for its omega attack, which can feel like wielding a rocket launcher [4:4]. The weapon rewards aggressive playstyles but also offers safe ranged options [2:8]. Players recommend using the omega special strategically to maximize damage and retrieve shots easily [2:9].

In summary, each weapon in Hades 2 offers unique strengths and challenges. The Axe and Sister Blades are standout choices for their damage and versatility, while the Staff provides stability. The Flames and Skull may require more strategic play and specific builds to unlock their full potential.

ORIGINAL POST

I recently unlocked all 4 weapons that are currently available and I’m honestly a big fan of each weapon. I haven’t really come across any stinkers anyways.

Which are you guys liking the best?

I am currently in my first run with the Axe and it has been an overall pretty positive experience. I like the flexibility the Axe offers with big damage and the ability to block damage.

However, most of the damage I’ve been taking has been me being silly and testing the limits of what bullshittery I can get away with. Particularly around which attacks I can block and how quickly I can throw up the block.

In general though, I’ve liked them all. Daggers have amazing high risk, high reward agile attacks and movement options, but can struggle against enemies that have a lot of zoning options.

The Twin Flames are slowish, but can provide a bit of sluggish movement while attacking, but I’ll take it. I love the big 5Mana spam attacks that are possible. But I feel the main issue with this weapon is the inconsistency with the targeting. Maybe I can get more used to it? But right now, it feels very fickle and hard to control sometimes for attacking specific enemies.

And lastly, the weapon I’m surprised I probably have done the best with, is the Staff. It’s just an elegant, fair weapon. It’s not particularly abusive in any form or fashion, and probably feels the most akin to the weapons from the previous installment of Hades. Decent melee, solid ranged. A jack of all trades so to speak.

What are all your thoughts?

I love the staff and axe, since getting used to the omega moves, I find that they're insanely fun to use. Especially the omega attack on both, but I also love the omega special on the axe!

Honestly I need to give the other 3 more of a chance because I've only used each of them a couple times and I don't think I've really gotten the hang of them like I have with the staff and axe yet.

I feel like I've barely begun to scratch the surface with the weapons tbh, I need to try more of the hammers and there are also aspects, right? I haven't even unlocked those yet!

The blades and the axe. Staff and skull are pretty good too. Flames desperately need a buff

I think the Flames need better controls.

The damage is there but it is so clunky to properly target the right enemy sometimes.

ProphetReborn · 1 year ago

The damage is only there on those when you hold it long enough to use magic. But then you are very quickly out of magic and it sucks. The risk/reward balance is just not good on those at all. They don't feel good to use in comparison with the rest(except I haven't unlocked the skull yet).

Personally, I favor the staff and the blades. I had a blades build with enhanced attack distance and chain lightning that was destroying every room. I also had backstab damage, which helps a ton with Cerberus. I didn't like the staff so much at first but it's really grown on me.

Torches is best by far

If you don't like to hurt your fingers from spamming just put on auto attack in the settings, and hold primary you do crazy damage with the boons that reduce mana costs and give you mana, and just buff your primary atk with boons.. easiest build you just hold the primary button and dodge with dash

1 upvotes on reddit
Longjumping_Plum_846 · 1 year ago

Exactly my order. I think the daggers feel great. You can get some insane damage with the right hammers and boons with the attack Omega.

Axs is a ton of fun. I do kind of hate how after channeling your special omega, there's that brief second where you can get hit for a ton of damage before your attack lands. But maybe that's slightly intentional because there's also that boon that's something like "If you take damage while attacking, deal X amount more damage". Haven't tried that yet, but I could see that being an awesome combo

Yeah I feel like there's more of a reason to use the different mechanics in H2 than in H1 too. Like the charged attacks in H1 were pretty necessary for certain weapons/aspects, but often I could just ignore them. But getting really into the omega moves and getting comfortable with sprinting has been game changing in H2, and I don't think I'd be having nearly as much fun if I hadn't forced myself to practice.

Plus on top of that, there's the hex leveling system which made me go from, "oh it's just like like calls," to "ohhh there's a lot more." And I honestly only found the infusion stuff last night, so I haven't even figured that out yet!

I do think there's some balancing that needs to be done and I hope that fixes some of the boons that I already find myself avoiding (like Hestia dash feels like it doesn't do anything). I'm not sure how I feel about the omega specific boons... I understand the complaints about how it makes it feel like the boon pool is too diluted or specific for too specific cases, but I also think the omega moves are sort of supposed to be your main move set, so maybe that was all intentional. It certainly forced me to adapt and play differently than I would've otherwise!

Kurtrus · 1 year ago

Seems to be the strat. The special is fantastic especially with some of the damage boons but the primary fire feels so lackluster and slow compared to the other weapons.

1 upvotes on reddit
Top-Strawberry-224 · 1 year ago

I'm a torches and axe truther lmao, staff and blades are ok but i cant wrap my mind around skull.

I dont think that outside of targetting fixes torches need a buff at all. They are ridiculously strong if you know how to play them right. They trade high damage for stagger aka you're gonna be a bit squishy early game but damage stays really high.

The problem is that, the description is lying to you. The attacks are shit and honestly their main use to me is to proc curses. Specials ARE where the damage's at. You want to use ur omega special > rush into the enemy and then spam your special and use ur cast(preferably demeter because freeze). In low heat before freeze runs out you wouldve killed most of the enemy.

I’m loving the skull. I’ve seen some people say they don’t like picking them up but that’s part of the play-style. I like how it rewards being very aggressive but you can also play safe from range. It’s versatility is very underrated imo.

For now staff is the most stable weapon. Nice output and the special adds some nice mobility.

Only drawback is that you're not immune during the special, and I always forget that xD

For me it's the sister blades. It is the type of play style I love. Reminds me a lot of the gloves in H1. My least favorite atm is the umbral flames. Maybe if I play with them more, but their play style just isn't for me, because I like to be hitting close instead of far away which I think is how they should be played. Like I said, still learning with those.

3 upvotes on reddit
Ivorycrus · 1 year ago

Umbral flames are definitely my favourite weapon. I don't think they are the strongest, but you're missing out on a lot of damage if you play them "far away".

The whole point is to set up some omega specials and then go into a group of enemies to let the specials do work while you use more normal atks or specials to add even more damage. (Especially with aspect of moros, where your omega special can trigger your regular atk explosion)

3 upvotes on reddit

Ahhhhh. Makes sense. I rarely play them and only do when I can get extra bones, but sometimes I even skip them then. I will definitely have to work on them later when I play and do what you said.

From how hard it was trying to clear 32 / 40 heat I’d say:

  1. Shield
  2. Bow
  3. Rail
  4. Spear
  5. Fists
  6. Sword

They’ll all good it’s just harder to not get hit with melee weapons really.

My best clear order-greatly affected by hammer mods. 300% damage to mortar attack on adamant rail is OP. With certain buffs-regular adds are one shot kills and bosses are chunks at a time.

For me it is the same way, Hades 1 weapons were all cool and I had lots of fun experimenting with them and the builds, however in hades 2 I struggle to find a weapon I wanna bring with me. Favourites would be the staff and coat, but I can't complete few runs with them without getting kinda bored of the gameplay loop

Also, 2 Chronos kills and u got to typhon in 10h? Thats damn impressive

It might take a while to click. For me it took anyway, I wasn't really vibing with the combat initially on any weapon. Took a break from the game for several months, came back, started a new save and immediately went "oh ok I get it now". The game requires some unlearning of the Hades 1 habits.

I'm surprisingly liking the weapons in Hades 2 more than the original. In the original I only really liked the spear and bow. Here I like all the weapons except the skull and torches.

So far my absolute fav has got to be Aspect of Pan sister blades, followed by Melinoe black cloak and Momus staff. Really looking forward to seeing their hidden aspects in action!

Skulls are my favourites, the omega attack is like having a rocket launcher and if you get possessed array upgrade you turn into a walking nuke. I'm generally using poseidon on attack and treating it like a Hades 1 poseidon cast. As for special I'm fine with aphrodite or poseidon (usually going for the full on poseidon build) . As for the dash i really can't tell, I haven't gotten a good use of dash/sprint yet. As for hammer upgrade i go for +2 skull always and i just lob all my skulls at the enemy and charge special to them to get the skulls and rinse and repeat. I don't know if it is the most optimal build but it's kinda fun.

Been enjoying the Sister Blades, their special & attack are very good but require hammer/boon support or they fall off very hard. Second runner up is the axe, I like the special but being unable to hold the block keeps screwing me so I usually focus on whirlwinding.

My least favorite is the Flames. The attacks feel pretty weak, they're hard to aim using a controller of often feel like they're missing enemies that you were aiming at/look like they should have been hit & the special's trajectory is really hard to anticipate if you fire while moving, and they're very reliant on getting good mana Regen and max mana upgrades.

All that being said, Melione's upgrades & weapons overall feel a lot weaker than Zag's. And it seems like the enemies she's facing are stronger. Which, when combined with the fact that a lot of the boons she gets seem weaker than the ones from Hades, gives this game a much more unforgiving feeling. Basically every returning god got nerfed & the new additions are weaker than the ones they replaced. Missing Athena's Deflect & damage reduction is huge, as is the change to prevent you from getting more than 1 Artemis boon.

EDIT: I realized this could come off as complaining, but I actually like most of these changes. Having to relearn a new meta, figure out how to exploit the new upgrade systems, & struggle against enemies is so much more fun & interesting than if I had been able to go in & just beat the final boss after a few runs the way I can when starting a new Hades save.

Weirdly for me her kit and weapons feels better with the boons. I struggled a lot in Hades, could barely ever make it past the minotaur and the other guy boss fight. I've only played maybe 10 hours so far and made it to Chronos and took him down to half health.

I will agree that the area before him does feel a little overtuned in comparison with what comes before it. You get a ton of mobs at once and get hit from every side it seems at times. So far I think they have done a pretty good job and would only want them to tweak that area a bit and also the stupid fish that spawn like 500 at a time in Oceanus and during the Scylla fight. I like the mechanics of that fight, but the fish toward the end is a bit much. Certain weapons and builds do really well, others really struggle on scenarios like that.

There is no meta, unless you're interested in speed running, I guess. The best weapons and aspects are whichever ones you personally enjoy using.

AdIll3932 · 1 year ago

i honestly think that the best weapons are the ones that "cheat" damage calculation, so basically the multi hit stuff(Demeter Fist/Chaos Shield/Chiron Bow) because it is a X times boost in a game of additive percentages, but you have to maybe build around it with flat damge boons( Zeus/Ares/Dio) and hope you also get some %boosts to damage with maybe chaos, ares %boost on all attacks, dio %boost on fountains and zeus %boosts on calls. So as you can see that's a lotta work for maybe not very efficient especially because luck is involved.

fuck all that, just put artemis attack on Arthur Sword and crit in the thousands

ALSO speaking of math, artemis special on the multi hit weapons is basically a guaranteed crit (20% chance to crit on 6 attacks[8 on bow])

Use Aphrodite instead. With the duo boon of poseidon and Aphrodite every enemy is considered close range for Aphrodite boons. If you have the crochet knife and something to put your cast away then you deal even more damage than what you get with poseidon. One time I've even 4 shot cerberus (more like 3 shot because each time there were just some hp left before the next phase/death)

A great build for clearing Chronos was the pre-nerf Momus staff with the double moonshot hammer and Poseidon's wave flourish boon. It's still viable now but it used to be disgustingly broken as the Momus staff gave a flat damage boost to your specials and the rate of fire was so high it would just delete half the health of guardians before they could enter their next phase.

Post-patch I've really been gravitating more towards Pan aspect Daggers with Artemis' keepsake for dealing with Chronos.

Are Hades I weapons better than Hades II?

Posted by hikmaet · in r/HadesTheGame · 7 months ago

Is it just me or the first game had weapons that are more fun to use and their aspects offer more options?

For context , I have clocked 100+ hrs in first and 200+ hrs in second game.

In Hades I, I am enjoying every weapon maybe except the rail, I can scale the damage up and get a decent build. I think Rail is also good but I just haven’t played it enough.

In Hades II however, I only ever play with the Axe (by a mile) , Blades and the Staff( in this order). I never finished a run with Skulls or the Coat, played the torches a bit very early in EA ( few patches ago). I just don’t seem to find a way to make the other weapons good if it makes sense. Even with weapons I enjoy, I only ever use 1 aspect ( Pan and Momus), except the Axe.

I am wondering if others also feel this way? I think Hades I had more classical weapons ( Sword, Bow, Spear and Shield - straight outta ancient Greece) and much more divers aspects ( Cast-linked aspects are so much fun).

Maybe the hidden aspects will save it for me.

Nah, I’m with you. I’m basically the same on which weapons I use, order and everything, the only difference being that I don’t have any of the non-Meli aspects unlocked. And I don’t have the coat yet. But I agree that the aspects (and the weapons in general) feel a bit less than Hades I. I can enjoy the skull, but the only serious run that I’ve played with it was a bit of a brawler build, running into enemies and hitting them with skulls from a close range (I had the Hammer upgrade that made them explode on return). It might just be that I prefer melee weapons though; I always have. That’s why I’m on heat 10 with Stygius in Hades I and 7 with the gauntlets and rest are under five.

Also, total side note, I miss the blocking special on the axe :(

Tell me about it, I missed the blocking with the Shield. I hope hidden aspects save it for me

One thing i’d keep in mind is we don’t have the hidden aspects yet in 2, and those were the ones that really radically changed how weapons worked in 1.

What is the chance that they add all the weapons from the first game at post game content?

That’d be amazing; just gorge yourself on endless Hades content. Would be amazing if they let you play as both Zagreus and Melinoe.

That's my feeling. I love when games bring back the old character for a NG+ sort of thing. The aesthetics and gameplay is so similar I can't imagine it being thatttt hard, but what do I know.

Something that often happens with early vs late designs IMO. you use all the clear, simple concepts early in and have to create new and more specific stuff if you want to be distinct.

I think at this point I would take the H2 weapons, overall. I would take the axe and daggers over anything from H1 except maybe the bow. The skulls feel a lot better with the latest update. The torches, staff, and mech suit all have an aspect or two that I have fun using.

That being said, the hidden aspects will obviously have a big impact on the outlook of each weapon and there is still more balancing to be done. If they can make some aspects feel more impactful and really flesh out the hammer upgrades, then I think this weapon set could easily clear the H1 set in total.

I'd swap shield and bow, but otherwise agree (since I favor cast builds)

What are some weapons you'd like to see in Hades II?

I'd love to see a flail or mace of some kind, as well as a war hammer.

Chakrams and maybe Staffs. Also Daggers would be cool, but might be too close to Fists.

Chakrams sounds really cool. Give me some kinda fire magic so I can roleplay Axel from Kingdom Hearts

Did you play Kingdoms of Amalur? That's what I was thinking. I love the Kingdom Hearts idea, too!

Do you mean they already announced Daggers in II? That should be fun!

An axe. So I can just hear him say once, "...and my axe!".

Or a scythe. That'd be okay I guess.

I think a Scythe would be super cool given it’s connection with Kronos who’s supposed to be the main antagonist of the game.

And Thanatos too. Could probably be an aspect like the butterfly damage boost.

Best weapons in Hades 2

Key Considerations for Weapons in Hades 2

  1. Weapon Types: Hades 2 features various weapon types, each with unique abilities and playstyles. Familiarize yourself with the different weapons to find one that suits your preferences.

  2. Upgrades and Boons: Each weapon can be upgraded with different abilities and boons from the gods. Experiment with combinations to maximize your weapon's potential.

  3. Playstyle Compatibility: Choose a weapon that complements your playstyle. For example, if you prefer ranged combat, a bow or gun might be ideal, while melee enthusiasts may favor swords or spears.

  4. Synergy with Skills: Consider how the weapon interacts with your character's skills and abilities. Some weapons may work better with certain skills, enhancing your overall effectiveness in combat.

Recommendations:

  • The Twin Fists of Malphon: Great for fast-paced melee combat, allowing for quick attacks and combos. Ideal for players who enjoy aggressive playstyles.

  • The Stygian Blade: A versatile weapon that offers a balance of speed and power. It’s excellent for beginners and can be upgraded for various effects.

  • The Aspect of Zagreus (for the Bow): Provides a good mix of ranged attacks and special abilities, making it effective for players who like to keep their distance while dealing damage.

  • The Railgun: If available, it offers high damage output and is great for players who enjoy a more strategic, ranged approach.

Experiment with different weapons to find the one that feels right for you, and don't hesitate to mix and match upgrades to discover powerful synergies!
