Understanding Fear and Vows
In Hades 2, managing your fear level and choosing the right vows are crucial for success. Players have recommended using vows like Rivals, Frenzy, Menace, Return, and Time, as these do not directly affect normal gameplay too much [1:7]. It's also beneficial to activate Origination arcana, which deals extra damage when enemies have at least two status effects
[1:10]. For high fear runs, utilizing hidden aspects such as the staff and torches can be advantageous
[1:9].
Boss Strategies
Facing upgraded bosses requires patience and understanding of their patterns. For example, with Polyphemus, it's advised to keep a distance and only rush in when safe [4:1]. Eris demands aggressive play, staying close and popping bombs during transitions
[4:1]. Learning boss moves and adapting your play style is key, as the difficulty increases significantly with rivals
[4:5].
Builds and Boon Selection
Selecting the right build and boons is essential. Starting each run with a God Keepsake ensures control over your build and synergy with your weapon or aspect [1:3]. Players have found success with builds that don't rely heavily on specific duo or legendary boons, as these can be rare
[3:3]. Using weapons like Poseidon on attack and Hestia on cast can simplify the process
[3:3].
Gameplay Tips
Playing smart involves knowing the best duos between gods and investing wisely during runs [1:2]. Watching high-level gameplay videos from channels like Boated and Lee Reamsnyder can provide insights into effective strategies
[1:4]. Additionally, rebinding controls for ergonomics and minimizing latency can enhance performance
[1:1].
Specific Boss Tips
For the Hades boss fight, dash through his circular swinging attack rather than away from it, and use the environment to avoid his laser attacks [5:1]. High damage output and strategic boon selection are critical for surviving phase 2
[5:2]. Utilizing weapons like the spear with high Doom can be particularly effective
[5:3].
By combining these strategies and continuously learning from each run, players can improve their performance in Hades 2 and tackle higher fear levels with confidence.
I really love hades 2 but im stuck at 20+ fear :P but i really wish to get the last statues. Is there any good guide for how to actually play the game in a smart way? For now i just went "fuck it we ball" with the boons without considering actual combos or strategies
Gonna be less detailed then others, but most hidden aspects are super good for higher fear, the staff and torches especially. When I did my high fears I used vow of rivals only for three bosses, the last ones are way to brutal for my taste. Invest in health, heavily. And if you do a Judgement build, you can get some free fear from vow of void. Hope this helps!
And to be more specific to your actual questions - to play "smart", figure out the best duos between gods, so you can figure out where do you need to invest on the run. E.g., just today i figured out how great Demeter/Hestia duo is, if you use Godsent Total Eclipse.
Been working on clearing 32 Fear with Rivals 4 with every aspect on Underworld+Surface. I'll be done soon, here's my overall thoughts:
Hit character limit, will continue God opinions in a reply to this comment.
First: technical stuff. Ensure your monitor/TV has minimum latency possible. If you're on controller, I highly recommend re-binding the controls so your thumb isn't responsible for every attacking action+dash. I have dash on right trigger, special on right bumper. The ergonomics matter a lot.
Second: gameplay approach. Play slower. Try to reactively dash away from enemies when you see them wind up. If you're hitting an unarmored non-boss enemy, you'll flinch them when you attack and can watch other enemies on screen. DO NOT DASH TOWARD ENEMIES. This isn't an unbreakable rule, but if there's nothing you need I-frames for, the cooldown on dash is significant. You can always dash when you're walking, but if you dash and see an enemy about to hit you, you've just thrown yourself in the way of damage without a way to escape. Walk in, dash away, repeat.
Which Vows to Take?
Vow of Pain: All foes deal +20%/+60%/+100% damage.
Avoid ranks 2/3. +20% is managable, but this is pretty dangerous.
Vow of Grit: All foes have +10%/+20%/+30% Health.
Avoid ranks 2/3. While this isn't severe for most mobs, the extra health on bosses is extremely brutal if you're struggling with surviving boss encounters.
Vow of Wards: Enemies have 1/2 Wards.
Almost always take 2 ranks. Most weapons hit fast enough that enemies soaking 2 hits doesn't affect your ability to kill them quickly. I dislike Vow of Wards with the Axe, or Heph builds, but it's easy enough to work around.
Vow of Frenzy: All foes are +20%/+40% faster.
Avoid. If you have the time to practice, I would actually recommend trying +40% with a slow weapon.
Vow of Hordes: Most encounters have +20%/+40%/+60% more foes.
Avoid ranks 2/3. This one is incredibly brutal, and compounds any other buffs you've given to your enemies.
Vow of Menace: Most foes have a 10%/25% chance to be from the next Region (if there is one.)
Always take both ranks. Enemies from the next region usually have higher health, but tbh, your power level at 32 Fear is enough that this shouldn't matter, and they're just slightly tougher enemies.
Vow of Return: Most slain foes have a +25%/+50% chance to become a Revenant.
Take both ranks. I hate this one because I find the mechanic annoying, but it's usually safe enough, and the timer on the revive isn't that bad. It's mostly just annoying with Hestia since things can die off-screen and you won't notice.
Vow of Fangs: Most foes with Armor also have 1/2 random Perk(s).
I play with both ranks, but if you're struggling, I could argue for just one rank, since certain combos of Perks are extremely brutal to deal with without taking damage. This is 5 fear with both ranks though, so you should try and get used to it.
Vow of Scars: Any Health effects are 75%/50%/0% effective.
Play with at least 1 rank, better yet 2. This is similar to Vow of Pain, but Vow of Pain will outright kill you more quickly, while Scars rewards good play by letting you survive for longer times for individual fights.
Vow of Debt: All items that cost Gold are +40%/+80% more expensive.
Debt is actually pretty punishing, especially on the Surface where shops can give you a lot of power. Sometimes you'll need one rank just to round out 32 though.
Vow of Shadow: All Encounters with Wardens contain no fewer than 1 Shadow Servant(s).
Just take it. It's 2 fear and the added difficulty is managable.
Vow of Forfeit: The first 1 Boon(s) in each Region become Red Onion instead.
3 fear for a punishing effect. Getting a high volume of Boons is great for beating Hades 2. It's not as bad on the Surface since you get more boons, but this can hurt badly for Underworld if you're not that good yet.
Vow of Time: You have 09:00/07:00/05:00 to fight through each Region (or else...).
Play with at least 1 Rank. It gives you 36 minutes. If you lose to it, turn it off. Note that any Vow which gives health/survivability/more enemies will make this harder to work with, but you can build around that.
Vow of Void: You have access to 60%/40%/20%/0% of your Grasp for your Arcana.
Don't. Though when you get good, you can start using this Vow for Judgement runs.
Vow of Hubris: After you choose a Boon, Prime 3/6 Magick for each Rarity greater than Common.
Take both ranks. It's not that bad of a restriction, and you typically get enough Magick for most builds. If you really need more Magick, just pick those rewards more.
Vow of Denial: After you choose a Boon, 2 unpicked blessings shall not appear again this night.
I do not like this, but I understand why some people do. If you're clever, you can use this to force better boons to appear, but it's a pain and punishes you for seeing a lot of boons, which you want to do.
Vow of Rivals: The Guardians of the first 1/2/3/4 Region(s) shall be stronger in various ways.
Look, you should probably take all 4 ranks. It's a total of 10 Fear, and mobbing is notably tougher when you need to allocate that Fear to mobbing. That being said, the fights are much, much tougher, or take a while to get used to.
My recommendation:
https://h2crossroads.pages.dev/FearCalculator/
This is for Rivals 4. If you want to beat 32 Fear without Rivals 4, try Forfeit and Debt 1.
Arcana
I'd start here: https://h2crossroads.pages.dev/ArcanaDeck
Origination is mandatory. It boosts every kind of damage, including stuff like Heph Blasts, Blitz, etc.
Death Defiance or Strength is down to personal preference, but Death Defiance is probably easier. I like Strength though. If you start winning more and not using all your DDs, try switching to Strength for more power.
Wayward Son is good for surviving. Furies deals a lot of damage. Persistence is great.
The reroll corner is pretty important for getting the best possible builds. 10 Rerolls is nuts and 300 Gold really kickstarts your power. I also really like Inventor for getting more value of out crap room rewards, but Lovers is good for surviving boss fights.
Boon rarity isn't that important on Arcana, but it can be nice to get Queen or Divinity active.
Drafting/Boon Strategy
Short version: use Poseidon or Hestia attack/special on anything fast (daggers, wands). Use Hera, Demeter, or Aphrodite on anything that naturally does a ton of damage. Zeus' Blitz is good on anything, and Zeus cast is great. Hephaestus is easier to focus on in Underworld. Ares is kind of like a worse but fun version of Hera or Aphrodite. Apollo is sort of there. Always make sure Origination is active.
Long version: You almost always want to fill out your 5 primary slots ASAP - Attack, Special, Cast, Rush, Magick regen. Boons usually prioritize these slots, so filling them with functional stuff is important for the juicier boons you can unlock. Always make sure Origination is active.
I think Attack/Special is pretty intuitive. The rest have a lot of nuance.
Cast: Aphro, Hera, Hestia, Zeus are all extremely powerful. All but Zeus also apply a curse. Demeter is good for crowd control. The rest are fine.
Rush: Demeter's is insane, since the Gusts are a Curse for Origination, and slow down enemy projectiles. Hera's and Poseidon's are good too. The rest are fine.
Magick Regen: Lots to say here. Aphro's is crazy because it's the only regen that applies a Curse, but the actual Magick regen is low, so isn't suited for some builds.
I don't like Apollo's gain, it can be limiting to how you move, and doesn't even restore that much Magick.
Ares' is gimmicky and only viable, regen-wise, for really fast weapons. It's pretty fun though.
Demeter's can be awkward, but actually restores a lot. I think, practically speaking, it's way better than Zeus'.
Heph's is... not exactly consistent regen. It's great if you're using something in which you don't want to use Magick, which isn't often.
Hera's looks like it has a downside. It doesn't. It's incredible, though you need to ensure you have a healthy supply of Magick.
Hestia's only works on normal attack/special, not Omegas. It's great for fast weapons though.
Poseidon's is super awkward IMO. You can only regen as much as you use, so you're playing around an obnoxious timer to use your strongest attacks, and if you mess up the timer, you're SOL. Too much brainpower for too little reward if you're struggling IMO.
Zeus' makes you do a fetch quest, but at least you get all your Magick back. I find the default common one is fine, since it's hard to spend 200+ Magick in 9 seconds while you're also dodging.
Gods, In-Depth
It's usually ideal to start each run with a God Keepsake. Having control of your build is essential for consistency, and can ensure you have proper synergy for your chosen weapon/Aspect.
Origination Checklist:
Aphrodite, Cast, Rush, Gain.
Apollo, Cast, Rush, separate boon
Ares, Attack, Special.
Demeter, everything but Gain.
Hephaestus, separate boon for blasts.
Hera, everything but Gain.
Hestia, everything but Gain.
Poseidon, separate boon
Zeus, Attack, Special
About Infusions: Without Vows getting in the way, Infusions are reliable to build for if you're going for it early. Though, Poseidon's seems weirdly rare.
IMO, every Infusion will be immediately impactful, except for Heph's and Hera's, though both are still good.
Hermes
The unique one. Most of what Hermes offers is really useful, but the standouts are his two Gold/Shop related ones, slowing projectile speed, and Winner's Circle (Omega cast is at least 100% faster, all casts expire faster). Travel Deal, which provides a shop discount and replaces the first purchased item with a second one, is an incredible way to gain power and to squeeze extra value out of shops. It's less valuable with more ranks of Debt Vow though.
Aphrodite
Aphrodite is one of my favourite gods, and I think she's extremely powerful. If you're fighting in melee range, or close to it, she offers a ton of damage. The only bad thing she offers is her Rush, which is easily replaced by any other god's. Heartthrobs are a bit gimmicky though.
Her infusion, Wispy Wiles, offers 3% dodge chance per Air boon you have, which translates to a lot of effective health if you're also drafting from Zeus or Apollo.
Apollo
I don't love Apollo tbh. A lot of his boons are only contextually useful, and increased size on attack/special is hilariously overshadowed by Hera's Hitch. He's pretty good at supporting Cast builds though.
His Infusion is great. With 3 Fire elements, you regen 30% of any damage you take, but I believe if you take a lot of damage in quick succession, only the most recent hit is counted. It still adds a lot of effective health.
His legendary is extremely strong, but takes a lot of work to get there.
Ares
Ares is like Aphrodite/Hera if you had to work way harder, but he offers a lot of power. His basic attack/special seems underwhelming, but is great on anything with a decent base Power, and can melt through most mobs. Grievous Blow is a standout boon which can hilariously amplify damage. Ares can feel pretty bad without him occupying your Attack/Special. He's a terrible last god to see in your pool, and I'd avoid him at that point.
Plasma is a weird but fun mechanic. Grisly Gain can be unusable on some builds, or decent enough on others, but the other Plasma effects feel pretty irrelevant until you start stacking them. Note that the bonus caps at 100%.
Frustratingly, his Sword boons can actually miss. They're strong, but this can be very frustrating.
His healing Boon is great with Strength Arcana, since you can tank more hits, so you don't instantly die when you're below 40 HP. Definitely a Plan-C option though.
Rallying Cry, his infusion, requires 8 Earth and boosts your Olympian damage by 50%. This is pretty huge, though can be tough to reach if Ares is your only Earth-giving god (but that's fortunately unlikely).
Demeter
Demeter is an excellent supporting god. Freeze locks down normal mobs, and Gusts make anything involving projectiles way easier to deal with. She's not the best at damage output, but is still solid, and makes up for that with easily providing for Origination. She's also the only god that offers straight-up %-increasing boons for your Omega attacks, which is awesome for most weapons/aspects.
Her Rush boon is incredible for 32 Fear, it helps Origination, and makes it harder to get hit with projectiles. Most Rush Boons won't help that much with damage, and she offers one of the finest utility Rushes instead.
Arctic Gale modifies your Cast by adding Gusts around it, but isn't a cast boon, so it stacks! Another great defensive option.
Snow Queen is a great defensive boon too.
Her infusion, Cold Veneer, requires 6 Water and makes any hit over 20 damage deal 10 less. This is great, but can be tough to achieve, since her and Poseidon don't synergize that much, and half her boons are Earth.
Hephaestus
Another excellent supporting god. Blasts are actually super powerful when built around, but is tricky to do so, especially on the Surface. But as a supporting god, the various Armour boons, ESPECIALLY TRUSTY SHIELD, are so useful for surviving. He also offers Molten Touch, which is unconditional bonus damage to armoured enemies, which is just lovely to have. If you know you can't invest Poms into his Blasts, don't even bother.
His cast is actually solid for damage.
I'm mentioning Trusty Shield again. It will save you so much HP. Security System will also help, but requires going all-in immediately during mob encounters.
His Infusion is Martial Art, which provides a +5% attack/special damage bonus for each Earth you have. This is nice to have, but is sort of at odds with his Blasts being Fire, and Blasts not benefiting from it.
Hera
All hail the Queen. Hitch is a crazy curse. Any big hitbox you have, or just your cast, throw it on and watch rooms melt.
All of her other boons basically just give you more damage, or interact with Hitch in ways to deal more damage.
Her Infusion can offer a lot of value, which turns all your Common boons into Rares once you have 2 of each Element. If you take it before having 2 of each, you can delay the activation too.
Seriously, if you don't think Hera is one of the best gods, just start using her keepsake. She's nuts.
Hestia
Scorch is awesome. Most weapons in the game work well with Scorch, notably the Black Coat, Torches, and Daggers. If that's not an option though, grab her Cast and melt things. IMO she has one of the best casts in the game, even with minimal investment.
Pyro Technique is critical for her Scorch builds. Flash Fry is great for crowded rooms. Most of her boons are great. Highly Flammable is arguably pretty mid, it doesn't do a lot to late-game enemies, and is irrelevant on bosses.
Her infusion, Slow Cooker, gives your attacks +2 power for each Fire you have. This is absolutely killer with the fast weapons she synergizes with, ESPECIALLY if you put a %-based boon on those instead of Scorch. The additional power adds up incredibly fast on those weapons.
Poseidon
Poseidon is probably the narrowest god, but is good in lots of ways. His waves do a lot, and his legendary makes said waves melt bosses. His biggest downside is probably that his curse, Froth, requires its own boon to apply, and Froth itself is pretty meh.
Sea Star and Buried Treasure are amazing support boons to find early in a run. Sea Star usually gets you a few more nice bonuses, and Buried Treasure makes Shops extremely powerful, especially with Hermes' Travel Deal boon. Don't put Poms into Sea Star though, the reward is almost certainly not worth it.
His infusion, Water Fitness, gives +15 Max HP per Water. It's good! But it feels like it never shows up compared to other infusions...
Zeus
All hail the king. Zeus is good at everything. Blitz is great, especially on attacks that are easy to throw out. His dash is solid, his cast is incredible. Static Shock is an insane boon which easily skyrockets your DPS once you find Air Quality.
Double Strike benefits most of his Lightning Stuff. It's good.
Air Quality is his infusion, and it's pretty damn good. Any time you deal damage, if the final calculation would have you deal less than 50 damage, you instead deal 50. This applies to chain lightning, Hestia's Scorch ticks, Demeter's Gust, basically everything. So many builds benefit from having active Air Quality, especially since his own Chain Lightning provides an easy additional source of damage to scale up.
Thank you so much!! This was definitely incredibly helpful! I actually never used Origination lol but i will start now for sure
If there are any guides I have not run into them or have just forgotten.
The best I can tell you is to watch a few videos from these two YT channels.
Both of them specialize in high fear runs.
Most of Boated’s videos lately has been 32+ Fear lately.
And all of Lee’s videos are 32+ fear.
Boated actually talks in his videos and is likely to explain why he chose X boon over boons Y and Z.
While with Lee he does not talk in 99.99% of his videos.
He gives a short description and summary of the run in the YT video description box.
He shows the arcana cards and selection of Fear he’s using for the run and then just goes.
Since Lee does not talk it can be hard to follow along.
The good thing is that even though Lee does not talk. He hardly ever gets any comments on his videos.
While that is sad. It also means he’s highly likely to actually see and respond to your comment. Usually with in 24 hours.
As for which vows to take? That depends on which aspect you take and what build you want to aim for in general.
Like a slower weapon is likely to not have a fun time with Wards as a faster weapon.
Thankfully there are tons of boons to pick up that help with Barrier clear.
Zeus static Shock, Demeter cast and Gust booms(but he cast and sprint),Hestia’s Scorch(it deals damage 6 times a sec).
I’m sure I’ve missed a few.
When selecting vows you want to take the easy vows first. The ones that are not going to buff the enemies too much or debuff yourself too much.
My grand scheme to get rich posting commentary-free mid-tier Hades 2 content isn’t going so hot 😜
lol while you may not be getting Rich quick or otherwise off your content.
I’ve found it quite good. I’ve used your runs on more than one occasion as inspiration on running an aspect I don’t like or use very much.
Although I’ve taken a brake from H2. I’m currently 1/2 to 3/4 of the way through Octopath Traveler 2 and next week I’ll be starting HK:SS.
(Gosh I hope 1.0 does not drop until at least late October. )
My highest Fear as of writing this is 32, I’m not an expert but I want to try and help. I would strongly recommend you use the aspects that are good for you, going off a build with an aspect you don’t gel with isn’t going to work out well. I would recommend using vows like Rivals, Hordes, Menace, Return, and Time, since I don’t think they really directly affect normal gameplay too much. It’s also a good idea to have the Origination arcana activated, which is where you deal 50% extra damage when the enemy has at least 2 status effects. I often get a status effect on my attack and then either Glamour Gain from Aphrodite, or a status effect on my special or cast. I’ve only done 32 fear once so this might not be the best advice, but I hope it helps
I would recommend using Selene and getting to know her boons. She won’t turn into an onion and her boons are very strong as a support. When you have limited gold and boons, Selene can cover your weaknesses. Usually survival is important in high fear, which means your dps might be a little lacking. Well her moon laser does a ton of damage, and you can power it up with her charm easy. Or if you lack survivability then maybe you can get lucky with moon water.
Other than that….idk git gud? Make sure everything is maxed out. The rival fights are easy fear once you practice the fights.
A strong way to play Hades right now is fast Mythic after 2 TC opening. It's a bit similar to what Boit showed here today but different followup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riBr_sGY9sU&ab_channel=BoitT.V
Gameplan:
3 to gold, 1 to wood. Gold villagers make temple at 150g (mine has 2900 left) and pray. Vault of erebus ASAP.
1 to food (push deer if can't lure)
1 to wood.
When at 15 favor 1 stays on favor, 1 to food, 1 to wood.
Rest to food.
Advance at 3:36. With 6 on gold, 6 on wood, 3 on food, 1 on favor. Choose Athena mostly but Ares vs Poseidon & Norse. Get Ajax while advancing.
Just before classical pull 6 gold villagers and 1 wood villager to make TC. Choose the TC that's best for securing more hunt. Gold is not much of an issue because of Vault of Erebus making your main gold last long but food is critical.
Play defensive in classical, use Sentinel and Watchtower & Crenelations if needed. If they play aggressive make units but usually you'll face opponents who play defensive too.
Get heroic with Apollo and prepare to put down a fortress right away on a forward gold mine then jump straight to Mythic. If you feel they will push right away on Heroic go with Aphrodite for Curse instead.
On the way to Mythic get toxotes/peltast and archer upgrades and a second armory. In mythic drop down Plenty Vault, get Forge of olympos and start getting all the armory techs including Apollo's Sun Ray and Athena or Ares techs. Start making Gastrapheteros from your Fortress. Once you have copper, bronze and the relevant myth techs and ~8 gastrapheteros push out using Underworld passage and bring villagers for a forward fortress.
Why is this strong?
This received a lot of buffs in the latest patch.
First of all buidlings, especially towers, Sentinel and fortresses are much stronger so it's much easier to defend and rely on buildings to stay safe. Jumping to Mythic with a defensive Fortress is hard to crack now as not only the fortress is stronger but armies are smaller. It's much easier to abuse Forge of Olympus to the max by waiting with armory upgrades till you reach mythic using buildings to defend until you get there.
Secondly jumping to Mythic for Hephaestus got stronger. The villager build time nerf makes aging up relatively cheaper as you miss out on less villagers. At the same time Plenty Vault and Vault of Erebus are more impactful. These are about ~15 and ~2.3 villagers each. 2 TC's into ~12 minute Mythic age for example would have around ~65 villagers before but is only ~55 villagers now making Plenty Vault a much bigger economy boost.
Finally there were a bunch of other small buffs to Hades. Apollo Sun ray went from 10 to 15%. Gastrapheteros went from 12x to 20x anti building bonus (and fortresses got buffed in damage and hack armor, not pierce armor) so are much better now because not only they kill fortresses MUCH faster, they also hide underneath your own fortress much better, they are plain better than petrobolus right now I'd say. Sarissa and Aegis Shield got more expensive but have more effect. The better effect is perfect with Forge of Olympus as the higher cost is negligible.

This strat is too strong to the point of pretty much cheating with super tanky greek heroes. As a greek main I hope it gets nerfed soon.
For Egyptian fast mythic is enticing with meteor or tornado their home base and wipe it out or their forward military operations/units but for Greek (hades) what's the main goal?
To get plenty vault is it worth it? Vs getting to mythic let's say 8 minutes later. You'd be playing catch up with armory upgrades, military upgrades and military units, map positioning to the following gold mine after fortress.
I thoroughly enjoyed the write up don't get me wrong and I'm just a 1200 elo. Not like boit etc.
I think that the biggest benefit is the cheaper Armory upgrades make it so you can out-eco your opponent, and the Plenty Vault and Archaic Hades tech make it so you can also out eco, so then you are able to get more done with fewer workers, and are able to snowball from there. It's not about the god powers, it's about the eco.
The best civs to go fast mythic have a strong instant payoff for getting there plus the means to get there somewhat safely.
In general mythic is not all that expensive actually. 120 seconds on a TC which is 6.33 villagers you're missing and 2400 resources. Sounds like a lot but you get a free myth unit worth ~400-500 resources, your other myth units and heroes get free boost, you get access to better units and techs and you get a godpower.
It really depends on the godpower, mythic age units and techs if it's worth to rush it.
Take for example Hephaestus. Plenty vault is worth about ~15 villagers and saves you like 5 farms. That alone is worth about 1100 resources. Then if your TC was making villagers instead that would cost you ~300 resources too. The colossus ~450 resources. Free boost to your heroes, shades and other myth units. And then forge of Olympus, can easily rack up ~3k in discounts. It's very worthwhile to rush out Hephaestus if that's your plan. The biggest reasons not to is the opportunity cost of not going Artemis (but she's less now) or the risk of taking damage before you get there. The fortress unique units are actually good now so also a (small) payoff.
Egyptian Thoth is another great payoff because of Valley of the kings, book of Thoth and meteor. Slightly less of a payoff in my opinion especially since meteor doesn't seem to reliably kill a TC and not even the farms anymore.
Chinese also get a good payoff with either Huangdi (discount dao swordsmen) or just Tiger cavalry (very strong unit).
Norse and Atlantean don't really have mythic payoffs worth rushing to.
But in my opinion Hephaestus is the best for mythic rushing just because of plenty vault and forge of Olympus. I think Greek should always consider jumping straight from heroic to mythic for it. Economically a much better payoff than the heroic level eco upgrades for example which are super expensive by comparison
This strategy is good at the moment but its main weakness is an aggressive enemy who gains and retains map control.
Having extra resources late game is actually not as important as population cap.
What's the point of having 1000 plus resources in the bank if you can't spend them due to population cap
I don't think this is true at all.
An enemy killing you before you get there, yes that's a problem. An enemy taking map control? You don't care at all. You basically need 1 good hunt pack outside of your base to do this. Because of Vault of Erebus and Plenty Vault you have access to a lot of resources that can't be denied.
Opponent grabs map control, you have your 2 TC's then hit mythic. Get a whole bunch of archers, infantry and gastrapheteros with 4 heroes and push. It's incredibly hard for opponent who put effort into taking map control early to stop your push as you have a super strong max upgrades push with a strong composition that kills buildings super fast. A strong heroic push hitting before you get mythic is the biggest issue, not someone taking map control.
How fast do you hit mythic with this build ?
Really depends on the pressure, what you scout etc.
If you see opponent going second TC as well and you dont fear some kind of timing push with a heroic GP you can hit like 13 minutes. But if you're making some units, afraid to grab hunt instead of berries etc it can be (much) later.
In the end it doesn't matter all too much, the goal is basically to reach it relatively fast and start getting plenty vault down and the cheap armory techs. You can essentially do the same after a bit of prolonged classical fight and jump straight to mythic after heroic.
I can't get past rivals Hecate most runs, and the farthest I've gotten is to rivals Cerberus
How should I be allocating my fear? I found 24 heat surface to be hard, but not this hard 😭
Also I don't know what tier 4 rivals does so please avoid discussing spoilers about it
I did this pre the rivals patch.
I would say generally what I did was vow of time at max level. That is 6 fear off the top and with the right setup in the underworld should be achievable.
Next is vow of frenzy max level. I tend to exclusively play with this on, it takes some getting used to but the enemies actually spawn fast so it makes it easier to get to that time limit. 6 more fear.
Then vow of menace maxed which gives you 3 more fear. Enemies from next zone aren’t that bad if you have an ok build.
Next vow of debt for 2 fear, you can get through most of the underworld without buying many boons just save money for decent items and don’t buy nearly as much.
Vow of shadow for 2 fear is also generally free, you generally should avoid mini boss rooms while going through if at all possible.
Vow of denial for 2 is also ok, due to no purchases you generally won’t run out of boon choices.
At this point you now have 21 fear without having made the enemies particularly harder, and now the questions start coming in about build.
I’d recommend a weapon that doesn’t particularly require a lot of mana or works with a lot of various boons. I’d suggest the torches for most folks as they’re easy to use, or potentially the black coat as smashing things isn’t to hard. Whatever you’re most comfortable with and requires the least boons to activate. (Medea skulls are also amazing for this)
If you’re chosen weapon doesn’t require a lot of mana then easy to take vow of hubris for 2. Shouldn’t be that bad.
Now comes down to the enemy buffs. If you’re using a weapon that has lower damage but high hit rate take wards at max level. If you’re taking a weapon that has high damage low speed I’d recommend taking 1-2 levels of hordes, I tend to find slightly more enemies are better than them having more health especially since that health applies to bosses. That’s 2 fear both ways. If you prefer more health you can go that way of course, or the skulls you have to pickup, but with the time limit I prefer not to have to pick them up.
I then generally take both levels of vow of fangs. This is another 5 fear. I find the buffs while annoying aren’t as bad as that fear in most other spots and it gives you a lot of fear, plus you try to avoid skull rooms on high heat runs.
That now should bring you if you choose a low mana usage weapon to 30. Last 2 fear is a bit of dealers choice. I’d probably take vow of pain and rivals 1 in the current setup. Depending on how confident you are you could go to rivals 2 or 3 and use the extra fear to drop off some other items.
This keeps your healing at max, doesn’t increase enemy damage, makes armored enemies and mini bosses scarier and limits your builds and requires more speed. But generally doesn’t make it significantly harder IMO. (Don’t get me wrong it’s harder but if you picked extra damage, enemy count, wards, revents, and such you’d have a WAY WORSE TIME)
Weapons that work. You don’t want to have a build that requires specific boons especially boons that are duo or legendary. Because odds are you won’t get those, maybe 1.
My recommendations, coat with Poseidon on the attack and Hestia on cast was how I got my first 32 fear on the surface. Simple build no mana required and you basically just need 3 boons you can roll for. Get slip and you can smash though enemies especially if you haven’t buffed their health. Anything else in that build is gravy and it’s easy.
Aspect of Medea for the skulls. Get Zeus and Aphrodite, Aphrodite gets damage for being close the enemies which with dashing into them you’ll always get, and then Zeus inflicts blitz. Simple and I’ve won several 32 fear runs with that combo. It’s risky damage wise, but the damage output is fantastic.
Any of the flames but I especially would recommend moros. Your specials hit your attacks and explode with 100% damage. You can get through the first zone if you have the right distance locked in without ever needing a boon. It’s fantastic. Any decent damage percentage boon and something that will inflict a curse is useful.
Finally arcana. Im a big believer in strength but besides that id recommend getting the rolls, healing, and then anything that increases damage. I would run with the one that increases damage if mana is below 100% + extra damage to enemies in your casts + extra damage to enemies with curses. All of that paired with strength means even without boons you can have a damage output buffed by 100% at the start if you enter rooms and fire off one omega move. Then an extra 50% with 2 curses. Makes the early rooms easier.
That would be my basic recommendation list. If you don’t have everything max level all of this changes. But happy to answer any questions.
I just did a 32 fear underground run that felt good. Here was my load out:
- Vow of Pain (+1): Rank 1: All foes do 20% dmg
- Vow of Frenzy (+6): Rank 2: All foes are 40% faster
- Vow of Menace (+5): Rank 2: Most foes have 25% chance to be from the next region
- Vow of Fangs (+4): Rank 2: Most foes with armor have +2 random perks
- Vow of Scars (+1): Rank 1: Any <healing> effects are 75% effective
- Vow of Debt (+1): Rank 1: All items that cost <coins> are 40% more expensive
- Vow of Shadow (+2): Rank 1: All encounters with wardens contain now fewer than 1 shadow servant(s)
- Vow of Time (+3): Rank 2: You have 07:00:00 to fight through each Region (or else...)
- Vow of Hubris (+2): Rank 2: After you choose a boon, Prime 6 <magic> for each rarity greater than Common
- Vow of Rivals (+8): Rank 3: The guardian of the first 3 regions shall be stronger in various ways
My goal here is to preserve speed of the run by not having any fear that increases enemy count or health, but also not putting too much of a time limit - 7 min per region is very reasonable.
For weapon I used Skull: Aspect of Persephone (free Poms) and mainly focused on throwing skulls and crowd control with cast. I didn't need special or omegas though this Fear will work with a low magic build.
Because I am using Vow of Frenzy and Vow of Rivals, it is critical you learn enemy and guardian movesets (including vow of rivals). To get comfortable here, I would recommend working your way up the ranks on these two Vows as a base for all your runs. As an example, I am still working on getting comfortable with Vow of Rivals: Rank 4. Once I feel good, I can increase it to Rank 4 for a 32 heat run and get rid of something like Scars, Pain, Hubris or start working towards consistency on 36+ heat runs.
Hope this helps!
Awesome ty!! ❤️
I did it with Black Coat, Melinoe. Grit (1 or 2), wards (full), frenzy (1), hordes (full), menace (full), return (full), fangs (full), rivals (full). I can't operate under time pressure and I don't particularly enjoy the vows that force you to give up boons. So rivals is a must
I did full rivals, shadow servants, frenzy 1, the one that has a chance to spawn enemies from the next region, return, fangs, time 2, and hubris. Supay is your friend.
Id say do frenzy 2 maybe instead if rivals 3, or maybe undo shadow servants, personally I think running frenzy at max always helps you get used to it, and once you do its really not bad, gets you really good at utilizing your cast. Supay is great here, but additionally something Ive found insane is the staff aapect that boosts your special. I ran this w/ aphro, giga moonshot, and double shot, its literally a get in their face and shotgun them build, I was regularly hitting for 2 x 1500 on my omega special just spamming it. Actual cakewalk run.
I liked the build from this post, I got through both runs with like two attempts each: https://www.reddit.com/r/HadesTheGame/comments/1lhj7l3/hades_2_32_fear_guide_unseen_update_max_rivals
Just be careful with the Chronos instakills if you're running strength...
I've only gotten to Rivals 2 so far, so no spoilers beyond that but the upgrade in difficulty feels a lot harder than Hades 1 and the bosses feel almost impossible, taking multiple to all death defiances. Are there any advice or tips on what to do or is just a skill issue on my part here?
Make sure you have upgraded all the arcana cards and your weapon aspects and keepsakes - that's your baseline
Then make sure you have a build in mind when starting a run and try to aim for it.
And then it's just pure skill and learning boss moves.
I think its part skill issue and the bosses being a bit too strong. The strategies that we used for their previous forms don't work as great with them like rushing Unrivaled Prometheus would just kill you ASAP. My tips would be to plan your run knowing what you're up against and use all the broken things at your disposal (scorch is bonkers now) Good luck!
Polyphemus 2.0 in particular feels destined for a nerf. I'm kind of enjoying the fight in its current form even though it inevitably has at least one 'he grabbed me from across the screen' moment, but I can't imagine that's the final version of it.
I think they're fine as they are, the whole point of the vow of rivals (and fear in general) is that it's supposed to be hard. It's not like they're THAT hard to begin with if you're experienced with the game.
Aside from the more specific advice folks have given: Be patient with yourself and give yourself some grace with the learning curve.
It's easy to forget a year into EA, but we all struggled with the bosses in their Rival-Free form for the first few weeks after they were initially released as well. While the identity of the bosses themselves are largely unchanged in their rivaled form, in terms of attack patterns and strategies you're basically looking at 8 new bosses to learn at once.
It's going to take time to memorize and adapt your play style accordingly, let alone doing so on a consistent basis. And honestly, that's not an indictment of player skill or even boss difficulty - it's just the reality of having effectively doubled the boss pool AND having done so all at once instead of staggering them across multiple updates like they did with the Surface bosses.
Give yourself time to learn and practice without getting to frustrated by a self imposed timeline of when you 'should' have it down by. It's a LOT to take in at once, give yourself some grace and keep your head clear enough that it's more likely to stick.
I remember the days when Eris gave me more trouble than Chronos. Hell, Prometheus STILL does sometimes.
My only gripe is for Rivals 3 Underworld, like how can you even dodge or block in the first stage alone
This one gets better quick as you learn the pattern I think, like knowing when it does that annoying backwards swipe. You might have to do times dashes for some of the AoE though, but the ground circles are at least telegraphed.
Polyphemus : Play patiently, keep distance between you and the boss, and only rush in when you know it's safe. Also, Medea only has a few patterns, you'll get used to them over time
Eris : Stay close and play aggressively, go behind her when she prepares her laser. Try to pop the bombs with your attacks during her phase transitions.
Hecate : When she activates dark side, you can get a couple hits in but you need to get away quickly or you'll get hit by her attack spam. It can deal a ton of damage if you're not careful, definitely her most dangerous move.
Scylla : There's a lot going on, but staying mobile will naturally make you evade a lot of the projectiles. You can kinda run laps around the arena and hit whatever is close.
Scylla kill the drummer ASAP and then just keep dashing around taking out tentacles.
I can consistently take down his first HP bar but once Phase 2 starts I pretty much get murdered within seconds. Any tips for surviving?
Dodge, do damage fast. The problem might be you don't do enough damage because you're not getting good boons because you're not picking the good ones.
Just keep trying and learning the game, you'll get there.
I used the spear with high Doom and I had very high HP (like 300). I absolutely annihilated him
Dash through his circular swinging attack, not away from it. His first laser attack will be the 3-beam one not the 360 degree one, so you can easily get behind him and damage him during it. When he does the 360 degree laser attack you can either hide behind one of the two big pillars in the center, or if you get right on top of him you won’t get hit. Increased trap damage from the Pact or from Chaos will make the green pots hit like freaking trucks, so beware. I’m guessing you already have it, but just in case you don’t make sure to get the extra dash talent from the mirror. Take a defensive keepsake for Styx such as the Broken Spearpoint, Acorn, Lucky Tooth, or Spiked Collar. Dionysus, Demeter, Aphrodite, and Athena all have good defensive boons or HP boons.
I just beat him. omfg
I’m like, generally decent at video games. I’m not a god tier gamer but I pick things up pretty quickly and don’t really struggle with difficulty outside of like, I dunno, the hardest difficulty of Doom or something that’s just kind of insane. But Hades 2 is genuinely kicking my ass and taking my name.
I can usually clear the underworld without many issues. But the surface is just a crapshoot. I can usually make it to Olympus, but once I get there it feels like I do 0 damage and get chunked for 1/4th my health if I get hit. I’ve managed to make it past Prometheus once, made it all the way to Typhon and died on the second phase. Haven’t made it back since.
I really love this game but why tf it so hard
Turn on god mode for a bit? It's not like god mode in other games, it just gives you more damage resistance. The reason why those end bosses are hard is you haven't learned their moves yet. Reminds me of Charon in Hades 1 where he beat my ass with his oar swipes. I had to dodge at him or in the direction of the swing but facing him was so rare that it took longer to learn.
If you're really struggling at the game then I wouldn't underestimate how much just getting a lot of health can help, particularly on the surface runs. Sometimes you just need a big HP bar if you're not good at dodging and you can generally get by on fewer boons than you think, although they are a lot more 'fun'. Once you get better at the game it's really more about outputting DPS than about your own health, but I think just being able to tank more is useful for beginners or people who are struggling.
Learning about boon combos and aiming towards boon combos that synergise both with each other and with your weapon aspect is a big part of the game. Beyond just 'gitting gud' at dodging etc it's probably the area you can improve at the most in the game. I still have a lot of room for improvement in that regard! Partly it's just about experimenting, with some boons/aspects it's more obvious than others. You can dig out content/recommendations from online if needed.
The most important thing imo is learning to protect yourself.
A good build can help you make up for mistakes, but getting good at dodging can let you win with bad builds.
Some of that comes from learning enemy attack patterns and how to avoid them. Know which enemies you need to be close to, which ones to stand behind, which ones to take out from afar, which ones to trap with your cast, etc.
The other side of that is learning your weapons movesets, so you know what openings you can afford to take and what works well in different scenarios.
In terms of builds, you learn what are good gods for difrent types of weapons. Some like the weapon to have a high DPS, others like it to have a high rate of fire, others like it to be aoe. Matching that eith thr attack and special can make a big difference by itself, then learning what secondary boons support it well and what types of duo boons you want.
Turn on God mode
Why did I have to scroll so far down for this
Because OP asked for advice on getting good, not on how to make the game itself easier
First remember that all roguelites have a difficulty that drop over time since the meta progression between runs so do all possible quests and so on.
Second, from arcana, to weapon, keepsake, pet and vows, ensure to fit the playstyle with proper synergies, remember to keep a balance of offense and defense options.
Three, consider god mode option to reduce difficulty since Hades is known to be designed as fairly hard, so the option is there on purpose for thoses who want a more relaxed experience.
What tricks or tips do you with you knew as a noob?
Okay, I know I'm late to the party and this may be unique for me but I've found the best outcomes mainly with Weapons like gloves, spear, and sometimes shield make sure you equip the Artemis trinket you get from her. The first chance you get, and it's usually an option first thing is to get her special upgrade because that critical chance helps a lot especially when you spam the special. I got through my first run through at try 25 and tried that pattern again and again and got quite a few in a row. I also like to pair this with Athena's deflect dash and some type of Poseidon knock back attack. It does turn the game into more of a button masher, but I'm impatient so this helped me get through fast. This may not be the case for everyone so some of the things mentioned above were really helpful too.
Being hyper aggressive is by far the best way to play. I played kinda defensively in the beginning to conserve my health and got chipped way too often. Hermes' plume corrected that and I never looked back.
Ooooo this. I've been playing for a couple days and got the boon that gives you 2hp per attack landed. That got me aggressive and boy I had more fun from that point on.
I actually somewhat disagree with this if you’re still figuring out dodge times. Especially for Theseus, where being aggressive is often not the best strategy.
Maybe 32 heat and above but below that? You should shred him in under 10 seconds, otherwise your build is bad.
A lot of YouTubers or other people say to always take the daedalus hammer. However if you get a chaos gate or eurydice room take that instead because the game will keep offering you daedalus hammers until you have 2
Some things I would tell myself specifically are
Hermes is not useless. More dodges, movement speed, call gauge auto fill, even more money.
USE. THE. CAST. don't just pick one and then never use it.
Nectar isn't some crazy rare resource. Give everyone one.
Use something other than Cerberus' Collar. 50 health is great and all, but there are other useful trinkets.
Actually look around the room before you leave. There are fishing spots, Chaos gates, and gold pots. Also once you beat REDACTED, there are fishing spots there too.
Check the Shopkeeper in between runs. He sometimes sells Titan Blood for an absolute steal.
Talk to NPCs. It isn't just repeated dialogue. They have stories that get pushed forward by speaking to them.
Use the traps to kill enemies. They do big damage. They kill stuff other than you. Plus it is fun.
Calls are important. Sometimes you gotta save it for a max call, sometimes you gotta use them individually.
To kill the small chariots, just dodge through a wall back and forth. They explode when they hit the wall. That, or use Ares dodge.
Don't just always pick the shop. Wait until you have enough coin to ACTUALLY buy more than one thing. If you only buy one thing, you might as well have chosen the other door. (unless you really don't want what the other door is or need something specific like health)
The well is useful. It is not just a health/gem/darkness dispenser. The items can make a pretty decent difference, especially with the Hourglass trinket. It also can sometimes give another Death Defiance for 200 Obols.
The Purging Pool is a useful tool. More money is good, and removing boons you are not using means Poms are more likely to choose the ones you are using. Sometimes picking a Legendary/Duo boon just for the money can be a good choice. 400 Obols is nothing to scoff at.
Extreme Measures is a good first Heat to pick. You were complaining that the bosses didn't have enough moves, so here ya go, more moves. 2 birds with one stone.
Seems like I’m doing pretty good if I’m only missing one of these tips (started playing a day and a half ago). I would also say that for people who feel like cerberus’s collar is necessary, just use darkness to max out that one health upgrade (think it’s unlocked after the 20 key requirement) and you’ll have the 50 extra health you would normally get from the collar. 150 health is absolutely not necessary for Tartarus and you’ll likely find plenty of centaur hearts on your way anyway.
How important Nyx's mirror is and proper knowledge of all the boons and their effects
A recent conversation lead to Hades. I mention the sequel is out, but the person I'm chatting with said "no way". Despite 75 runs/escape attempts, he couldn't get past the 2nd biome/region of the first game, and even then, it was only a few times (so stuck on first region). He says he always sucked at these types of games, but a hand injury made it worse. I mention there's a god mode, but he said he was already using that.
That got me thinking if this game would be worth picking up and playing if it were so hard that your typical player struggled to get past even the 1st or 2nd region! I'm thinking "yes", but with more reservations since a good amount of stuff gets unlocked with successful runs... resources, new modes of play, storyline, etc.?
I remember a person posting in the Hades 1 sub how much they loved the game for offering a God Mode, which is their case (a disabled person), allowed them to still enjoy the game, lore and interactions without having to deal with the difficulty the game can offer.
If I'm correct this mode is still available in Hades 2, so should be friendly, even for disabled people, although of course certain conditions might be too harsh...
AFAIK, the god modes between the 2 games are the same? If so, he's saying he was already using god mode in the first game. And their difficulties seem to be on par (all variables being equal).
Honestly I don't know how God Mode works in this game. I just know that in the first one, the more you lose, the more buffed you are, so eventually you're just bound to win (except maybe for extreme handicaps), but I can't confirm whether this is the same here, sorry, and good luck! : )
Your friend is the exception here. Unless you are playing with one hand, you should be able to complete runs with god mode on.
My girlfriend's God is maxed out and she still can't get to Hecate
It's extremely rare for someone to experience what your friend is. Hades 2 may actually be easier for them. There is auto attack settings if that helps with their particular injury. There's even a weapon aspect that auto fire and all you have to do is dash.
Overall, I'd say if you have fun playing the game, it doesn't matter how often if you ever clear it.
I played contra for years growing up and never beat it haha
I think it might be different for Hades though, since it's so heavily story based. A lot of the appeal is gone if you can't finish a story, like a half finished book.
While that weapon aspect does exist, it's a hidden aspect and as such isn't available until late game. So it's not exactly an accessibility feature. But once it is unlocked, it is really handy.
I'm with you though. When I was a kid I didn't focus as much on completing a game. Some games couldn't even save your progress short of writing down a code. So I would usually just end up playing the first three levels. 😂
Which one autofires?
If they literally have a hand injury games like these might not be worth the effort if they are not having fun.
Even if Mel as a witch employs mostly medium to long range tactics which require less twitch reflexes as the dash crazy melee focus playstyle hades one mostly used
Playing Hades 1 or 2 with a hand injury? Extreme Measures 5. No way to play.
The devs want you to feel the thrill, not your bones and ligaments break.
From my own experience. Beating the story "is a second objective" in regards to all the extra stuff you can do. Going through a run collects them and opens new routes to experience what the team is cooking. It was fun to play the crazy game in the beginning and to see where they are now, being very close to ver 1.0.
Finally started playing this week and I am getting bodied. I can clear Hecate, but Polyphemus and the Sirens are basically brick walls.
It's clear the hyper-aggressive style I used with Zagreus isn't viable, so I need to figure out what this game wants.
I had to learn these lessons as well, I was trying to play the same way I had played the first game but that's not how it works.
First of all, let me suggest God Mode, it doesn't mean you're playing "easy mode" or something dumb like that, it just gives you space to breathe and examine the gameplay, to learn the patterns and gain muscle memory to actually improve your skill.
Secondly, stay away. Enemies in this game hit fast and they hit hard. Your cast is a zone of control that pins most foes in place, use that tactically to funnel them together and slam them from a distance. You can't rely on Dashing the same way you could with Zagreus, so don't worry about trying to clear encounters quickly for now, just take your time and play it safe.
Thirdly, learn to make judicious use of the Omega moves. They are your primary offense, big damage with a wind-up (which is why you need to make sure you're relatively safe before committing to one). Practice with the different boons to learn which ones synergize, which ones work best with certain weapons, etc., all the things you did in Hades.
In short, take it slow, play it safe, and focus on learning instead of winning.
I have barely used Omega moves, that's 100% a point I need to improve on. I keep focusing on speed and that's entirely counterproductive to what the game wants.
The Sirens fight in particular gets easier once you get more comfortable with the Omegas. The Cyclops I'd advise not really focusing on until you get to and probably beat both the Sirens and the third biome Underworld boss. They're both easier than that big stompy boy.
In Hades 1, you could get away with staying in everyone's face and relying on dashes to keep you safe.
Mel can't do that due to her laggier dash and lower base health. In exchange, she has amazing CC via her cast and can leverage omega moves for bursts of power. She has to basically take turns with the enemy, only attacking in between their attacks, and use her cast whenever necessary to get some breathing room. As you play more and learn enemy patterns, you'll be able to identify more and more openings where you can squeeze in a hit or two, but for now prioritize survival over damage.
Wanted to thank everyone for the advice here! By following it I was able to repeatedly beat Scylla last night and get to what I think is the final boss of the third Underworld biome twice, as well as beating Polyphemus once and making it through a big chunk of the second Surface biome.
Had similar problem when I first started. It took some time to get used to sprint and omega moves for me.
What helped me in the beginning is to use cast builds. Zeus/Apollo/Hestia specifically. These builds are not fastest but are pretty safe to clear bosses. Just keep your distance and spam casts. You still need something to clear rooms though. Distance makes it way easier to dodge lots of attacks.
As for the Poly, he is tough, and the best thing to beat him is distance once again. Just make sure to grab some mana regen and dump omega moves from distance.
Right now the cyclops is very punishing if you just sit in melee so you need to weave in and out
You will get better at dodging stuff with time, for now the classic advice is to learn when you have time to use Omega moves and get used to sprinting a lot to get in / out
Makes sense, I've been trying to adopt a much "pokier" playstyle, especially focusing on the staff, to make me slow down and focus on dodging.
I was using the sister blades a lot since they seemed closest to my favorite weapon from the first game, the twin fists, but it just wasn't working out for me.
The blades are, imo, the weakest/worst weapon. You need hammers to come online most of the time whereas other weapons have a much more natural feel to them from the jump.
The game 'wants' you to sprint in and around a group of mobs, momentarily stop sprinting to cast, then dash out of melee range toward the opposite side of your cast than the mobs are grouped at and then wail on them while they are immobilized.
Cast 100% roots almost every mob.
H2 is also more about weaving damage from all your attacks on the fly whereas H1 felt more like wombo combos to me.
I recommend finding a weapon you like that has either a special or attack you want to spam/prioritize then putting your main attack boon on that move, and the other you don't prioritize putting a debuff/incremental damage boon on. (This doesn't work on axe because the special is only useful for damage after charging up the omega)
So an example would be focusing on special for staff, you might want hestia or poseidon on the special since they do not so great base dmg but are decent at quick ranged attacks, and then go for demeter/heph/zeus on the attack.
Alternatively you could use apollo/aphro/demeter attack on the candles with demeter/poseidon/hestia/>!hera!< on special.
Casts can be augmented heavily so you can get freeze + cyclone from demeter, scorch + ranged cast from hestia, bolts + ranged cast from zeus(note these are two separate boons and you can mix/match them so you can have hestia ranged cast + zeus bolts etc)
Sprint has a few interesting options ranging from main damage source(heph) to survival increase(hestia).
If you want an ultra tank build open the spoiler:
!Aphro/pos/heph/demeter as gods, prioritize either aphro or pos as your main damage source depending on if you have a big dmg source(aphro % based increase) or fast attacks(pos flat damage). Try to get at least freeze on your cast if not cyclone as well(pos basic cast NOT OMEGA is also good for dmg, aphro is good to apply weakness+cc, do not take pos or demeter omega cast boons). Then you want to get Pos Double Up, Demeter Harvest boon(bring your shovel), aphro +% max hp reward, heph +% magick boosts hp, and finally both demeter and pos infusions, with the cherry on top being demeter + aphro duo. I don't think there's a better raw hp build that can also put out insane damages as this one.!<
Initially I was considering going about of 60% of my army of Toxotes. And prob Ares > Apollo > Artemis for most damage with archers.
Then turtling and winning via Wonder. But I’m accepting different strategies / minor god paths.
Share y’all strats and considerations, please?
There is no one strat. There could be a different strat on every map and vs every god.
But in general, you can be aggressive and gold mine rush vs norse with athena, you can try to 2 tc or 3 tc boom vs eggy and greek. That's a big generalization tho.
But are you talking about retold or now? Cause now ares is underwhelming and you almost never take it. Restoration is just much better and minotaurs are better than cyclopes.
Army composition also depends on the matchup. You're not going to build toxotes vs full turma, are you?
Nah I’m talking EE. I’m aware already there’s a few changes on retold and if nothing changes on launch day, Aphrodite is pretty much mandatory for the AoE stun of her myth unit
Do what Nullus does, since he was concidered best Hades
Tip: search for champions league games on Boit’s YouTube page and do whatever Nullus does.
Athena is the better choice over Ares 99% of the time. The others are situation dependent
Yeah, I’m starting to get this feeling. Athena doesn’t bring the offensive upgrades of Ares, but her power is way better. And I’m still doing 70% toxotes and 30% hoplites, so most of the time I’m leaning towards Apollo and Artemis for the upgrades. But I’m judging every match
Thanks for suggestions.
against AI or against humans? because thag's a pretty big difference with Hades
I like whichever the age4 guy is that makes colossi. Having those on the frontline with a billion archers in the back is a fun combo.
First god power at second TC is something I’ve seen a lot.
I used to love doing this but I was only regularly succeeding with this in 2020 on EE. I don’t know why I stopped being able to, even still on EE later.
