ORIGINAL POST

Looking for a good shoe repair shop that can help me with my dress shoes. Basically looking for someone who can restore the tip of my shoe as I scruffed it by hitting a raised piece of sidewalk.

As a result the finish on one shoe needs to be sanded down and colored so it matches the other shoe. Any good recommendations.

Jim’s on E. 61st is the absolute best. Don’t bother with anywhere else. Also, this sounds like a pretty easy job so don’t fret—

Ridgewood Shoe Repair - 66-01 Forest Ave. They do a great job with leather shoes. Have been going to them for years. Standard pricing. Not cheaper or more expensive than your run of the mill shoe repair store.

Best Shoe Repair In The City?

Posted by soociety · in r/AskNYC · 3 years ago

I have some Docs boots that I'm trying to fixed. Most stores I have visited told me they can't fix scratch leather on Martens. Is there any store that will do this as best as possible? I know they won't look brand new, but at least make them more presentable. Thanks.

Premium Cobbler on 62nd Street is wonderful. The owner is super nice and the work is tremendous. I had work done at Empire on Lex (now closed) and Alex’s Shoe near Vanderbilt (long since closed) and Premium blows them both out of the water.

I second Premium Cobbler. Brought all my high end shoes to them for repair and the guy has done a phenomenal job on every pair. One of the reasons I miss working on the UES is because it was so convenient to go to him. Now I have go out of my way on the weekends to drop off shoes.

North 11th Shoe Repair in Williamsburg is good and turnaround time is within a week.

Vince’s Village Cobbler in SoHo did a good job on my 796z and PL2 but their turnaround time was incredibly slow. Took over a month to get my shoes back..

Shoe maker on Grand St (@Humboldt)

Posted by cawfeeaddict1 · in r/williamsburg · 2 months ago
post image

I just wanted to shout out and bring attention to this local shoemaker. I bring all of my shoes here, new and old and he always does a fabulous job. For new shoes with a slippery leather bottom I will add a rubber tread which makes it safer and extends the life of your shoes!

I feel like this is a much needed yet dying craft and it’s hard to find people that still do it so let’s support those doing these people. Lord knows the next generation isn’t trying to take their place 😿

Looking for a Shoe Repair shop to fix the heels on my Vans.

Posted by theloveofpearl · in r/Buffalo · 2 years ago

Subject line says it all.

I bought my Vans high top sneakers back in March, but I have the terrible habit of destroying heels on every shoe I own. Looking to find a shoe repair shop that could fix the heels.

Southtown preferential but will drive for a reputable place.

He also takes ages to do it. He’s pretty backed up.

I also have a terrible habit of destroying my vans from merely walking... If you have the means to buy multiple shoes it really helps. I feel like I use to spend more buying new Vans every year instead of rotating 3-4 pairs. Also look into the pro series, they are a bit heartier.

There was a cobbler on Elmwood, but I feel like they only do fancy shoes.

There’s a repair place right where S Abbott runs into Armor Duells Rd, it’s not showing the name on google maps, first building across from the little strip mall there. Very nicer older guy, hours are a little weird but he’s done a few things for us with no issues.

1 upvotes on reddit
celiathepoet · 2 years ago

https://www.stepaheadshoerepair.com is the best place I’ve ever gone, and I’ve brought shoes and boots to several of the places mentioned. They’ll also put non-slip soles on any boot or shoe, which expands winter footwear options. Prompt, not expensive.

Jimmie’s once had my boots for 17 months to replace a zipper. Ridiculous.

Honestly, worth the trip to just take the M to Myrtle Broadway and go to East Village Shoe Repair (1073 Broadway). Affordable and legendary know-how and craftsmanship.

There is this great guy on Wycoff. He is really good. He does everything. He even re-soled my Superga.

If you're walking from the Myrtle-Wycoff train station towards the Dekalb stop, his shop is a block or two before you get to the Dekalb train entrances and on the right hand side of the street.

It's a narrow store front and he usually has a shoe stand outside with shoes and boots for sale. At first glance you think it is a shoe store because there is more shoes for sale immediately inside. But no, it's just a really good, old fashion cobbler :)

Note, he is a bit pricey but I paid the same for the guy on Fresh Pond to fix my Birkenstock and they came apart 1 week later. The guy on Wycoff "fancy stitched" on a new piece of leather to hold the straps together.

Not in Ridgewood, but North 11th Shoe Repair in Williamsburg is the gold standard. They've brought so many pairs of boots back to life for me year after year. Really great small business, and the people that work there are really nice. Worth the trek.

I've never heard of a great shoe repair place in our neighborhood, unfortunately...but if anyone has a good recommendation then obviously please let us know!

Best shoe repair shops in New York

Key Considerations for Finding the Best Shoe Repair Shops in New York:

  1. Reputation: Look for shops with positive reviews and testimonials. Websites like Yelp and Google Reviews can provide insights into customer experiences.

  2. Services Offered: Ensure the shop provides a range of services, including resoling, heel repair, cleaning, and restoration. Some shops may also specialize in certain types of footwear.

  3. Expertise: Check if the cobblers have experience with the specific type of shoes you need repaired (e.g., high-end designer shoes, athletic footwear, etc.).

  4. Turnaround Time: Inquire about how long repairs typically take. Some shops may offer same-day service for minor repairs.

  5. Pricing: Compare prices among different shops, but remember that the cheapest option may not always provide the best quality. Look for a balance between cost and quality.

Recommended Shoe Repair Shops in New York:

  • Shoe Service Plus: Known for excellent craftsmanship and a wide range of services, including leather conditioning and custom repairs.

  • The Leather Spa: Located in Manhattan, this shop specializes in high-end shoe repair and restoration, with a focus on luxury brands.
