Best Shoe Stores in New York

TL;DR

  • For sneakers: Flight Club, Kith, Stadium Goods
  • For running shoes: Fleet Feet, Brooklyn Running Co.
  • For luxury and consignment: Dover Street Market, Round Two

Sneaker Stores

New York City is a haven for sneaker enthusiasts. Flight Club is frequently mentioned as a must-visit store for its extensive collection [1:1][1:3]. Kith is another popular destination, known for its trendy collaborations and unique designs [1:1][2:1]. Stadium Goods is recommended for those interested in high-end sneakers, and it's also where Complex shoots their sneaker shopping series [2:2]. Other notable mentions include NikeLab 21 Mercer and Adidas Flagship stores [1:1][4:1].

Running Shoe Stores

For those looking for running shoes, Fleet Feet is highly praised for its knowledgeable staff who are experienced runners themselves [5:1][5:5]. Brooklyn Running Co. is another popular choice, although opinions on the service vary; some feel they push stock clearance [5:3][5:6]. Super Runners Shop in Midtown East is also recommended [5:2]. These stores often provide personalized fitting services, including 3D foot scans to recommend suitable shoe options [5:9].

Luxury and Consignment Boutiques

For luxury and consignment shopping, Dover Street Market offers a curated selection of high-fashion sneakers and shoes [1:1][4:2]. Round Two is noted for its unique consignment offerings [4:5]. Extra Butter and Concepts NYC are other boutiques that offer exclusive releases and collaborations [2:1][4:2].

General Advice

Many stores are conveniently located near each other, especially in areas like SoHo, making it easy to visit multiple locations in one trip [1:2]. It's advisable to check store availability beforehand, as some larger sizes or specific models might not be readily available [2:1]. Additionally, engaging with staff at these stores can provide insights into the best fit and style based on your needs.

A lot of these stores are nearby each other and subway system makes traveling around easy. Start from SoHo, you’ll hit a majority of stores as you head uptown.

I will be visiting NY for a week with my wife, and I would like to visit a good store with lots of options of sneakers for training. Recommendations in Manhattan will be appreciated as I’ll be staying around Time Square.

REI has a reasonable shoe selection, albeit a bit more orientated to trails and hiking.

Super Runners Shop! I love the Midtown East location

Agreed.. plus they also do the 3D foot scan thing that Fleet Feet does, and I love that they recommend 2-3 options and different brands.

everyone might say Fleet Feet but my experience at the Brooklyn store kinda soured them for me.

I love Brooklyn Running Co off Atlantic Ave

I went to Brooklyn Running Co after hearing so much hype, and honestly I was not impressed. The experience was no better than any other running store. They just watched me take a few steps, told me I overpronate, and recommended Brooks Adrenaline. I've actually had better experiences at Fleet Feet.

agree but in times past they werent afraid to recommend something the store doesnt carry rather than force a product they do carry that might not work for what i need. that holds weight for me personally

I feel the staff at Fleet Feet in Columbus Circle are fantastic (all seriously runners who have put in miles in a variety of shoes), but never have my sizes in stock (M8-8.5)

I feel like everyone says Brooklyn running co… and I wish I could recommend them personally but I feel like they are always just trying to sell me the shoes they struggle to sell when I go there (as if they’re trying to clear stock)

This isn't the answer you're looking for but you're likely best going to a physical therapist who specializes in runners (Finish Line, MotivNY etc.) They can look at you run, see how you strike and recommend shoes that would be best for you. I've been to several Fleet Feets and Brooklyn Running Co and find that the guidance there is a hit or miss. Everyone seems very nice at both and I purchase items from both stores but not everyone knows what they're talking about and it can be tough to know what's correct/incorrect.

Jackrabbit on 63rd and 3rd is also awesome although as with every store, it does depend a little on the person. I definitely got someone who is an avid runner themselves and who also listened. Their advice is definitely far more tailored than pushing everyone who says "over-pronate" into a stability shoe.

I've been to the Super Runners Shop on 77th and Jackrabbit on 72nd. Both are good. Super Runners Shop treatment varies based on who you get helping you.

I'm a huge fan of Jackrabbit. I've bought shoes from the one on 14th and I shop at their Brooklyn location near prospect park as well. I definitely recommend!

Sneaker stores in Manhattan, NY?

Posted by [deleted] · in r/Sneakers · 3 years ago

Hey guys,

Are there any sneaker stores in Manhattan that you would recommend me to go?

Just went to Flight Club and think that it's just stupid that they have a different price in store than in the website (40 dollars more). I'm from Europe so I don't know any stores outside of this ones and Stadium Goods.

Do you have any recommendations?

Thank you in advance!

There’s a place called Laced Up on Broadway and there’s a couple other places right by there as well. Then down in the Lower East Side, there’s District One at Stanton and Essex with Round Two across the street. Best prices are District One and Round Two.

Which NYC Bike Shops Sell Which Brands of Road Shoes?

Posted by Da5idMeyer · in r/NYCbike · 7 months ago

Just dug through a few LBS websites to see which shops sell which shoe brands, and found the following. Figured I'd share since it's been a while since anyone's asked that particular question, and nowhere did I find a compiled list. I left Paragon & REI off, since it sounds like their inventory rotates seasonally and it's January. The numbers are just the number of products (shoe types) on the shop's website, not current inventory. If anyone comments with additions or corrections, I'll edit the post to include them.

Bicycles NYC - UES

  • Pearl Izumi (16)
  • Shimano (11)
  • Specialized (10)
  • Fizik (7)
  • Lake (3)

RA - Brooklyn

  • Shimano (22)
  • Lake (20)
  • Fizik (14)

Echelon Cycles - Chelsea

  • Sidi (27)

Bicycle Habitat - Chelsea

Hilltop (Incycle) - Williamsburg & LES

  • Specialized only, apparently

Hilltop stocks exclusively Specialized shoes. They’re owned and operated by Specialized, the incycle connection is misleading. Spesh owns incycle as well and the online marketplaces are connected, but the incycle stock does not reflect physical stock at hilltop locations.

Sweet - I added them, but their online inventory is Incycle generally, so local selection may be some subset of those
