TL;DR Bones Reds are consistently recommended as the best value for money, while Bones Swiss Ceramics are considered top-tier but pricey. Bronson G3s and Quantum bearings are also popular choices.
Bones Bearings
Bones Bearings dominate the recommendations across discussions. The consensus is that Bones Reds offer excellent performance at a reasonable price point, making them ideal for both beginners and experienced skaters [1:1]
[2:5]
[4:1]. For those willing to invest more, Bones Swiss and Bones Swiss Ceramics provide superior quality and longevity
[1:1]
[3:3]
[5:4].
Bronson Bearings
Bronson Bearings are another popular option, particularly the G3 model. They are praised for their smoothness and reliability, although some users have had mixed experiences with the Bronson Raw shield-less bearings [1:1]
[5:1]. Bronson G2 bearings are also mentioned as a solid choice
[5:6].
Quantum Bearings
Quantum Bearings receive positive feedback for their performance, especially the metallic series [2:1]. They are often compared favorably against other high-quality brands like Bones and Bronson
[1:1].
Budget Options and Maintenance
For those on a budget, Mini Logo bearings are recommended as an affordable yet effective choice [4:2]. Additionally, maintaining your current bearings by cleaning and lubricating them can significantly improve their performance without the need for immediate replacement
[4:3]
[5:5].
Specialized Bearings
For speed skating, ILQ-X MR2 BCB bearings are suggested, though they come with a hefty price tag of $300 [3:2]. These bearings are tailored for high-speed applications rather than general skateboarding.
In summary, Bones Reds are widely regarded as the best all-around choice for most skaters due to their balance of quality and affordability. For those seeking higher-end options, Bones Swiss and Bronson G3s are excellent alternatives.
what are the best bearings I can get?
Bronson G2/3
I second that. They are like the bones bearings with more features, about the same price. Wish they ditched the orange, though lol
Honestly my go to has been spitfire cheapshots, but bones reds aren’t that much more expensive so you can go with those
Bones Red
Thank you guys for all the help!
Bones Swiss Ceramic are arguable the best bearing you could possibly buy. However, there’s a pretty heavy diminishing return when you get up to that price. Bones makes a variety of bearings that are slightly different, all very nice. Bones Swiss are fantastic. Super Reds are great. Quantum Bearings are also fantastic. Bronson G3’s are awesome. Bronson Raw bearings are hit or miss, I’ve had good and bad experiences with them. Keep in mind as others have mentioned, all you really need are reds, maybe Bones Swiss if you’ve got a money tree.
I’m pretty new to skating and got a birdhouse level one crest. It has ABEC-5 bearings but they’re not working super smooth on one side? Do I need new bearings or just some tweaking? If so what’s a good bearing brand
Btw they’re 52mm 95a wheels
SKF will last the longest and are my preferred. Bones reds are good quality and the cheapest option for bearings that I would deem to be worth it.
For me the best brand of bearing is : bones swiss , high quality bearing ! But they are expensive !
REDz bones are From china : bets value for money
Bones reds are my favourite tbh. They’re 20 usd iirc. They last a long time if u take Care of them too!
Oh cheers. I’ll definitely look into them!
Yeah! No problem bro! They’re excellent bearings
Bones are good. I’ve been happy with Quantum metallics.

ILQ-X MR2 BCB bearings, probably. They're what most speed skaters use.
They're also $300.
bones swiss
If your looking for good bearings at a good price the bones reds are probably your best choice imo
best and only answer
How about bronsons
I'm a broke 21 year old that's basically skating to get sponsored and get the hook-up on gear. I bought $50 Oust bearings after I heard about them on the Rat Vision YouTube Channel. At first they were fast and were lubed, but sitting in my closet any speed they have left is gone. I had barely used them over the course of 2 years since I only skate flat ground tech instead of park. I've heard that Bronson g3's are the way to go, so that's what I'll be getting, and they're cheaper on Amazon in the ~$20ish dollar range.
Mini logo are excellent and only like 10-15 bucks. Best bang for your buck
Quantum bearing
clean and lube your current bearings
just put speed cream on your current bearings and they should be fine
I agree with dude saying clean and lube
Bones Reds are the #1 selling bearing by a mile.
I have Super Reds currently. Anything more expensive than that is a bit of a diminishing return.
Remember to shop local. Sport would be dead without them blood sweet and tears. Zumiez has one love and it’s not skateboarding.
I guarantee Zumiez writes bigger checks to all your favorite skate companies than every local shop combined.
Those companies need those checks to keep the lights on.
I am a new skateboarder, I was at the local skate park last week, and a guy told me I need better bearings... I tried spinning his wheel, and his spun for a few seconds, whereas, mine done really spin at all!! Which may explain why I can't get much momentum on slightly rougher terrain.
I looked at bearings on amazon, but I don't really trust their reviews - so thought I would get the opinion of everyone on NewSkaters.
I mostly want to cruise around on my board at first (at the skatepark/on pavements), and then maybe in the long long future do some tricks - what bearings do you use?
And which ones would you recommend for cruising/speed and which would you recommend for tricks? Or would you use the same bearings for both those things!?
Thanks!
I've used, no names, Bones (Reds/Ceramics) and Bronson G3's.

The Bones have always been the most consistent. Reds being the best value for money of the two types I've used. The Bronson were decent but I didn't have them long (sold the deck with them in) so not sure how the do long term. They seem to get good reviews though.
The no names? Well... No consistency at all. I'm currently (on and off) riding a deck with no name ABEC 9 "Red Sheild" bearings, which while a little slow at first, soon became as smooth and fast as any set of Bones Reds I've ever owned...
...and other no names have been horrible Walmart board level garbage.
So, Bones Reds are the recommendation, they're not expensive and they provide a consistent level of performance.
Thanks for the in-depth answer man! Seems like Bones Reds and Bronson bearings are neck and neck..!
Get some bones super Swiss 6 balls. Best bearings I've had. They fly.
Thanks dude, I'll have a look at them!
Try clean your bearings first, they may just be full of dirt. Yellowjacket bearings always get good reviews from comparison tests of all the entry level bearings.
Thanks man, this is great advice. Wow, those wheels spin for ages!! What do you use to clean the bearings, anything special?
To be fair, the skateboard I am using is one I bought 6 years ago for only £25, when I looked up the specs of the board, it has some very basic stuff on it. I've done some more research, and I am apparently using the wrong diameter of wheels (I am not light, to say the least :P), so I'm gonna try going from 52mm to 56mm wheels
You wouldn’t need separate bearings for cruising and doing tricks. Bones reds are the standard good bearing, but there are plenty of other options, too. I’m currently using Bronson G2 and they’re super smooth
Thanks mate, I will look into the Bronson G2 bearings!
Never tried G2's but I have 2x sets of g3s and a set or Bronson raw shield-less bearings. All brilliant
Just go bones reds first bro, they are pretty cheap standard bearings and probably the bearings you'll compare your other options with, so it'd be worth knowing what they're like.
Thanks dude, will do!
These bearings are really a step ahead. When I first started skating I’d use whatever package was the coolest, but prior to these all I rode for 15+ years was bones Swiss. Never had a problem with Swiss, but these are higher quality. SKF has made bearings for Boeing jets since 1907. They’re around 40 bucks, fast, and very smooth.
Yeah, it was kind of a weird way to spread the word, but SKF bearings are really good, I think that the biggest difference is that they use grease instead of cream/oil so they are a bit slow at first, but once broken in they are pretty smooth and fast and because of the grease there's almost 0 rattle.
On the weird side, the back is sealed, so in theory they should outlast most bearings but they make no sound which can be off putting for some people.
So, pretty good bearings just not for everyone.
I got this off marketplace for $120 bucks and it has skf with shields off. If it’s weird whatever, idk how to do this I’ve never really cared to say one product is better than another. But for the first time ever I really think they’re much better
I feel you, skaters can be cynical and mix up excitement and some nefarious intent. Having said that, I stand by what I said, they are very good but not for everyone.
Edit: just my 2 cents, for me SKF are the best bearings, but I know a bunch of skaters that would hate them because of the sound they don't make or them being semi-sealed. OCD is the name of the game here.
do u work for these guys? cuz this seems like an ad
Haha no I don’t my Friends say the same shit. I just really think they’re worth trying out. Like I said I never had an issue with Swiss but something about these is better. I think I should work for them. Bones has vern laird, skf can have satisfaction8050
I'll check them out, no hate intended. You should seriously ask them for a check tho. at least some free shit lol
SKF Winsted is in a downward spiral and corporate is won't do anything about it! HELP!!!!!!
Svenska Kullagerfabriken FTW 🙌
Son muy caros?
40-45 bucks nothin crazy. Dm Me I have a bunch if you want to buy
I've been looking to purchase some new bearings for the pre built board that I got last month and I was wondering what the best brands and types of bearings are within my price range. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Mini logo is the best price to quality value for bearings imo. They’re usually about 10$
Right now you can get some Bronson G3s from skatewarehouse for 11$ not including shipping
Bones Reds or Bronsons G3s.
Second; but as someone who currently owns both of those, just go with Reds. G3s are not-insignificantly more expensive but feel about the same
I'm just going with two brands most likely to be stocked by skateshops. Reds can be shockigly absent from certain distributors.
Switched to bronsons from reds and they are fantastic
Reds > Bronsons Fight me
reds. as a side note, never spend more than that on bearings. Skating is rough and bearings are gonna get wrecked. Don't overspend on something that will take a beating
This right here
So I've tried so far, Jarts, Spitfire burners, Reds. Reds on ricta 78a on the street are amazing, at the park I don't like them. Spitfire burners are cool all around but I want more instant speed. Jart are ok. I'm thinking to test out Independent GP-R What I want to is to get speed fast, because the skatepark is small and I don't have much room to push like crazy..I use spitfire og 52mm, 99a on the park. I want to run, through the deck down, push two times and get as much speed as possible. Glad to hear everyone's opinion and experience.
Big balls swiss (~64usd ) are pretty good, I feel the difference compared to super reds. Bones Big balls bearings are super smooth and keep up the speed, however there is a slightly less acceleration if that make sense…
bones swiss always. I have bones big balls on my bowl/cruiser board and those are really nice as well and almost half the price as Swiss. but if you got the money to spare Swiss. they always last me years and are well worth the investment.
Yeah, Bones Swiss for sure! I haven't tried the Big Balls because I read they feel weird compared to the 7 ball bearings and I love my Swiss anyway :)
I can't speak for normal park/street sized wheels but inside a pair of 60mm oj super juices the big balls feel like riding in a buick. so smooth.
Price wise reds are the best. I prefer Bones Super Swiss though. Only set of bearings I’ve used so far to last me six months and still spin like new.
I'm on year 5 of my regular Swiss. regular cleanings and lube and they still spin like new.
What’s your budget? Money no issue - Bones Swiss. Cheaper - Bronson G3. Dirt cheap but good - Mini Logo. Honesty though, wheels make a bigger difference. Spitfire F4s are great. I think Bones SPF roll a bit faster on smooth concrete though . SPFs are way to slippy on wood for me though.
Thanks bro, for concrete I use Ricta 78a,55mm and I won't change them, best wheels..these bitches go anywhere!! For skatepark I've tried to machines 99a( I prefer them on smooth concrete, Crupie 101a( I love them) Now I have some spitfire 99a,52mm and I'm trying to get used to them cause I'm used to conicals. What you recommend for a smooth skatepark (no wood) Wheels and bearings?
I use quantum atoms and those mfs can spin
My bearings are trash pssy they spin like 3 secs and i see all them wheels spinning for like a minute so what are some goodies?
Reds and entry Bronsons are both around that price and amazing bearings
100% reds, every month or 2 i add some speed cream and make em go fast using compressed air to grind out all the gunk, amazing quality
I stick with super reds these days. Hard to beat for $30
Idk how much they are but just buy bronsons, whatever they cost it’s worth it.
I’m old, don’t know Bronsons. Reds all Day
Lmfao literally my thoughts as I was scrolling through
Bronson's hands down. I tried many different bearings, and they all either broke or slowed down significantly within a couple of months. Then I tried the Bronson's G3 and fell in love with them. They can last YEARS as long as you clean them every once in a while, and they never stop being fast and smooth. They cost around 25-30 dollars
Is there really that big of a difference in bearings?
I have used a couple different sets of bearings now that mostly have come with my wheels. Inline warehouse, Bont, some off brand, and Rollerbones Reds. I’m on the Reds now and have been since I started skating on RB wheels. But you know how it goes you start looking at gear you don’t need just because and man. Some of those bearings are crazy expensive.
Is there really big enough quality differences in bearings to justify paying $300+ for them? All of mine have been like sorta equal on price scale, but I haven’t noticed any really difference. I even experimented by swapping bearings in the same set of wheels and yeah nothing.
I’m not looking to get new bearings but like will my world forever be changed if I drop that much on new ones?
IMO it’s not really worth it, we don’t go fast enough for long enough to make that much of an impact. I use reds and I think they’re the perfect cost vs quality for derby
Really, any 608 bearing will work. The first few sets I bought were Bones Reds and similar that came on my skates. Then I bought a pack of 100 for $20 Amazon specials. The cheap bearings work fine after I clean out the thick grease... and get used to the gentle whir lol. It's pretty clear that going from $0.20 per bargain basement bearing to roughly $1.00 per middling bearing buys a solid increase in QC. The subsequent increases don't buy nearly the same improvement though - same as any other product.
No. Not for derby. Expensive bearings are made for maintaining speed over long distances (i.e. a speed race where small increases in overall efficiency add up over multiple laps.) the pace of derby is such that you'll likely never feel any performance increase from a quality bearing, as you're starting and stopping constantly. Skated 30 years multiple disciplines; for derby I skate bog standard reds until they wear out, then clean them or replace them.
I haven’t gone 300$+ but I’ve got the Reds Ceramic.
I think with derby, you have a lot of sprints or burst of energy, so maybe you wouldn’t get enough value from “the fastest spin” like a speed skater would. I think the value comes longer lasting quality meaning you don’t have to buy new sets or maybe you can go longer between cleanings. Mostly it’s just peace of mind feeling confident they aren’t going to lock up on me randomly. Personally I’ve been doing fine with the same set of ceramics for over ten years now.
Biggest difference I ever noticed was just from wheels but once I had 2-3 set of different hardness for different surfaces I’ve been happy
I have cheapo Amazon bearings still going strong after 10 years. I rarely clean then either but that my bad habits.
I have a pair of ceramic bearings (qube, maybe?) That I got on sale for like $100 a decade ago. They're still going strong, I might have cleaned them once if at all and they still roll as well as they did the day I got them. So really just personal preference on if you want to spend a little more up front for less maintenance.
best skate bearings
Key Considerations for Choosing Skate Bearings:
Material: Most skate bearings are made from steel or ceramic. Steel bearings are durable and affordable, while ceramic bearings are lighter and offer lower friction but are more expensive.
ABEC Rating: The ABEC scale (1 to 9) measures the precision of bearings. Higher ratings (like ABEC 7 or 9) indicate better precision and speed, but for skateboarding, ABEC 5 or 7 is often sufficient.
Seals and Shields: Bearings can have rubber seals or metal shields. Rubber seals provide better protection against dirt and moisture, while metal shields are easier to clean but may let in more debris.
Lubrication: Bearings come pre-lubricated with oil or grease. Oil generally allows for faster spins, while grease provides better protection against dirt but may slow down the bearings slightly.
Brand Reputation: Consider reputable brands known for quality, such as Bones, Bronson, or Mini-Logo.
Recommendations:
Bones Swiss Bearings: Highly regarded for their performance and durability, these bearings are a favorite among skaters. They offer a great balance of speed and longevity.
Bronson Speed Co. G3 Bearings: These bearings are designed for speed and come with a built-in shield for easy cleaning. They are a solid choice for both street and park skating.
Mini-Logo Bearings: A more budget-friendly option that still offers good performance and durability, making them great for beginners or casual skaters.
Choosing the right bearings depends on your skating style and budget, but these recommendations should serve you well!
