TL;DR Gulf wax is widely recommended for its affordability and effectiveness. Skate brand waxes are often considered unnecessary, but buying them supports skate companies.
Gulf Wax
Gulf wax, a type of paraffin wax, is frequently mentioned as a top choice for skateboarding due to its low cost and effectiveness [1:6],
[2:1],
[3:3],
[5:1]. It can be found in grocery stores or hobby shops, making it accessible and easy to purchase. Users appreciate its ability to keep spots clean without leaving a mess compared to scented candles
[1:6].
Skate Brand Wax
While some skaters prefer using branded skate wax like Diamond or Primitive, others argue that these products are essentially the same as regular paraffin wax but at a higher price [1:2],
[5:2]. Buying skate brand wax does support skateboarding companies, which some users find appealing
[1:4].
DIY Options
For those interested in DIY solutions, users have suggested using candle stumps mixed with vegetable oil or bearing fat [5:8]. However, scented candles are generally discouraged due to their fillers and dyes, which can create a mess
[1:6]. Some skaters have successfully used standard candles from stores like Kroger, although results may vary depending on the candle's composition
[5:9].
Alternative Sources
If Gulf wax is not available locally, some users recommend checking crafting stores like Michaels or dollar stores for suitable alternatives [5:10],
[5:11]. These locations often carry inexpensive candles that can serve as makeshift skate wax.
i had candy curb and ledge butta and i feel like the candy curb was better. what do you guys think?
I been rocking the Diamond brand wax for a bit now. Good
nice. is it better than other wax you have tried or about the same
I have used the wax that come with some andelè bearings and Diamond wax was a slight step up from that. Just because of the shape mainly. All the “skate wax” you find is gonna be worlds better than candle/non-skate wax.
What?
the best skate wax
Huh?
Good question, but really wax is wax. Whatever candles you have around or stuff from a super market. If you buy skate-wax you are supporting a skateboarding company though, which is pretty cool to do.
yeah. i bought wax from my local skate shop and they told me to go out and buy a candle
Pretty cool of them to be real with you. I'd buy all my decks and shoes from that shop.
Gulf wax(paraffin wax) you get five blocks for about 2.50. Grocery’s stores usually have it or hobby stores
Don’t use candles unless you have to. Scented candles are the worst. They have dye and fillers for the smell. It’s a mess. Clear wax will keep your spot a little nicer a little longer. Skate brand wax really isn’t worth the cost.
Never use soap or crayons... some people do it.
already bought candles oof
Grocery store paraffin wax
Just buy a stick of deodorant or wax block on Amazon skate wax made by skate brands aren't needed tbh
Candles
Gulf wax is pretty good
And usually pretty cheap too.
what’s the best wax you recommend and a great board for cheap? I skated a new Santa cruz and it literally snapped in half when i tried skating off a ledge.
Skate wax isn't special in any way, its just marketing. Your board could have been defective if it broke so easily, but decks can just break depending on how you land on it.
Gulf wax, Baker, Powell
Candle wax. Its all the same stuff, parrafin
Maybe try a Powell flight deck, Santa Cruz vx, or creature vx. They are more expensive but all reviews show they last way longer and are really hard to break as well as lighter. As far as wax I used zogz sex wax but in a pinch a candle or crayon works too. Good luck out there!!!
Just got my hands on to this Artisan FX Zero x 2000 fun and was wondering what skate should I pair with. For context lately I have been using a bunch of glass pad like Kanami Minami/Wallhack SP-004/ Singularity/The Guardian and just got back to use cloth mousepad. I put like Silver Fox/UHMW-PE from pulsar and it gives me a noticeable stopping power in glass pad, but still keep the speed of the pad. What I want is skate that gives me speed but still having a little bit stopping power that can be supported by the mousepad surface later on.
Jade airs, and tiger ices are great options, donut skates may be the play here for a balance
unusualwaysports magic ice for full skates
Currently using it right now and ngl not half bad compared to jade
Jades are the move.
Jade donuts i'd say
If you’re strictly going to use the zero I’d just recommend the artisan dot skates.
I bought some off Amazon but felt like I was paying a lot for a little. Curious if yall have any recommendations?
When I started out I paid 8 bucks for some primitive skate wax. Works like a charm and still lasts, downside is you look like an idiot
Gulf wax. Cheap, tried, and true
Really? Like concrete ledges take it well? I only have concrete where I'm at. If it does then that's legit because a pound it 10$ on Amazon. I paid the same for a quarter of that in skate wax
It's all I've ever used. Ledges, rails, whatever. It gets the job done.
I second this, Gulf Wax was the best when I was skating all the time. Now that I'm resuming, it appears Wal-Mart stopped selling it in stores near me so I'm looking for another source that isn't Amazon. In the meantime though, Oak City sent a stick of Sonic Wax with my new skates. tried it out today and was very impressed with it. Plus it smells amazing.
Have you tried crafting stores like Michaels or similar?
I go to the dollar store and buy candles 🕯🤷🏻♂️
Tbh, I brought a standard candle that I bought from krogers to the concrete ledge I practice on today. It did leave a very slight residue of wax, but it mostly crumpled into chunks. Idk if it's bc it's a certain kind of candle
Yeah it kinda does, I put it on my skates too, and as it warms up from grinding gets more slippery, I’ve used that since I was a child 🤷🏻♂️
Gulf wax 100%
Saved candle stumps and 10% vegetable oil. Back in the day I added a nice spoon of bearing fat (friend's parents had a repair shop with a friggin barrel of it standing around) per block. I was about to try mixing in silicone based lube (sex shop stuff), but that shit is super non biodegradeable and I don't want to bring it into circulation, even in the city.
I want the maximum stopping power, so the stickiest mouse skates possible I guess. im using a viper 8K ATM.
Xraypad obsidian pro air the slowest hard PTFE material.
UHMWPE skates.
I use dots so I'm not sure if you can find full skates for your mouse but...
My favorites are the Obsidian Pro Air (grey). Pulsar has some and there's also Unusual Way Black Fox skates. All feel more or less the same so it comes down to thickness, price, and adhesive for me.
What skates glide the most on a glass mousepad? Currently using obsidian air on my mousepad. They are good but im looking to try out new ones. Tell me your preferences pretty please and what skates glide the most on a glass mousepad?
Regular obsidian because the obsidian air is slower
ultraglide Rs are the fastest on glass
I play games like VALORANT and CS2 so I need to be able to do precise and fast micro adjustments, low static friction and some dynamic friction to control and all that.
I tried Jade dot skates on my Altantis Mini with the Zero and after like a day of playing they started feeling a bit sticky and inconsistent. Its hard to explain but I was whiffing shots alot with the Jades on.
Then I tried the obsidian dots which are kinda made for glasspads, although I didn’t like them at first I started hitting very good flicks with them on. But they also feel a tad bit slow for what I’m looking for.
My ideal combo was Lamzu stock skates with some Lamzu dots installed on the top. They worked pretty well and now I kinda regret removing them. Also I have couple other mice which can’t use the Lamzu stock PTFE skates on.
Wondering if there’s any recommendations I should try out. Is there a tried and tested skate that works well with Artisan Zero Soft.
I heard good things in the artisan dot skates
It might cost me another kidney to get them Artisan skates shipped to my country. Any other suggestions?
If you don't mind answering where you are from? I recommend the tiger arc dot skates
I have them and they feel really nice and Smooth on my key 83. it feels like I am floating over the mousepad.
I'm planning to get one how's the glide before and after the break in period?
I know they didn't work for you but just for the sake of other people seeing this post ill say that the jade dots are pretty peak to use with the zero imo. I liked the tiger arc v2s for a more locked in feeling too.
Try silver fox dot skates
obsidiannnn
I use donut obsidian from x-ray pad on my key-83
ive thought about using jade skates but i have considered the obsidian skates. i just need more control from my skates without sacrificing too much glide or speed considering that they both feel nice on the neptune pro or would the zero provide the control i am looking for with the jade skates without sacrificing too much glide or speed? in case it matters, i do play siege as my main game.
i can tell you that the zero soft works really well with the tiger ice v2s.
high speed + high stopping power which is perfect for target switching / tac fps
over obsidian skates ?
I went with corepad ctrl pro after tiger ice v2s felt too fast. Previously used lgg saturn pro and ices but going to zero they were too fast for me.
UnusualWaySports Magic Ice. Jades-like skates are the way to go on a pad like the Zero. Let the pad give you the control, all a skate has to honestly do is glide smoothly so that it doesn't feel inconsistent, which is why I dislike regular obsidians so much
This is so sick, man. I remember seeing your post from when you were buying. It looks awesome! 🔥🔥
They have a lot of could designs, the even have shadow's art (currently out of stock) but I'd recommend checking them out

Key Considerations for Choosing Skate Wax:
Type of Wax: There are different types of skate wax, including:
Application: Look for wax that is easy to apply and can be melted or spread smoothly on surfaces. Some come in sticks for easy application, while others may require a heat source.
Durability: Choose a wax that lasts longer and withstands wear and tear, especially if you skate frequently.
Weather Resistance: Consider wax that performs well in various weather conditions, particularly if you skate outdoors.
Brand Reputation: Brands like Independent, Baker, and Element are well-regarded in the skate community for their quality wax products.
Recommendation: For a versatile and reliable option, Independent Skate Wax is highly recommended. It’s easy to apply, durable, and works well on various surfaces. If you're looking for something more eco-friendly, consider Beeswax Skate Wax, which is natural and provides excellent grip.
Always remember to apply wax sparingly and test it on your surface to find the right balance for your skating style!
