TL;DR
Basic Routine Recommendations
Starting with a simple skincare routine is crucial for sensitive skin. Brands like Vanicream, CeraVe, and Cetaphil are frequently recommended due to their gentle formulations that cater well to sensitive skin types [1:1]. These brands offer products such as cleansers and moisturizers that help maintain the skin barrier without causing irritation.
Calming Redness and Irritation
For those dealing with redness and irritation, products containing soothing ingredients like oats can be beneficial. The Aveeno Calm + Restore line is praised for its ability to calm redness and soothe sensitive skin [1:2], while Avene's Cicalfate range offers serums and creams specifically designed to repair and protect sensitive skin
[2:6].
Sensitive Skin Holy Grails
Several users have shared their favorite products for sensitive skin, including Torriden hyaluronic acid sunscreen, Laneige cica sleeping mask, and Cosrx snail mucin eye cream [2:1]. These products are celebrated for their hydrating and soothing properties, which are essential for maintaining healthy sensitive skin.
Product Testing and Ingredient Awareness
When dealing with sensitive skin, it's important to introduce new products slowly and one at a time to identify any adverse reactions [2:4]. Keeping track of ingredients that may cause issues is key to avoiding irritation. Additionally, using products with minimal ingredient lists can help minimize potential irritants
[3:4].
Affordable Options and SPF
For affordable skincare options, Pyunkang Yul is recommended for its effectiveness and affordability compared to other brands like Paula's Choice [5:2]. Mineral sunscreens are advised for sensitive skin, with Cetaphil sheer mineral SPF being a popular choice
[5:3]. These sunscreens contain zinc and titanium dioxide, which are less likely to irritate sensitive skin.
Overall, finding the right skincare products for sensitive skin involves a mix of trial and error, focusing on gentle formulations, and paying attention to individual skin responses. Consulting with a dermatologist can also provide personalized recommendations tailored to specific skin concerns.
So apparently I have red undertone skin (I barely touch my face and it looks like someone hit me)
So What should I use to make my skin shiny and glow? (FYI I’m a male if that makes difference)
Aveeno calm + restore line - super gentle and contain oats which are great for calming redness.
Try Bulldog sensitive wash, shave gel, shave balm, moisturiser. You could get a full routine pretty cheaply - once you have a routine in place you can try other products etc.

Do you have a basic routine yet? If not, start there.
Vanicream, CeraVe, and Cetaphil are good drugstore brands for sensitive skin.
Does anyone have any makeup or skincare that’s for sensitive skin that you love? I’ve been feeling a lot of burning from new products Ive been trying so I want to try switching to more sensitive skin friendly products.
-Prequel Gleanser
-La Roche Posay Toleraine Hydrating Gentle Cleanser
-Kate Somerville DeliKate moisturizer
Super reactive with rosacea here. Skincare: deliverance serum and instant angel from Dieu. Beauty of Joseon rice probiotic sunscreen. I've found avoiding full coverage makeup is okay for my skin. Kosas concealer, rare beauty liquid blush. I haven't found a mascara that doesn't bother my eyes, but I'm still searching!
I have increasingly sensitive eyes and have had great luck with the Merit tubing mascara. I order it online as the tubes in store tend to be older & dried out.
Thanks! I've tried Thrive tubing mascara but it's still irritating. I'll give Merit a try next.
Keep in mind that allergies and sensitivities vary significantly from person to person and there is no truly generic option for sensitive skin with anything. You will get the best results by keeping track of ingredients that may be potential issues for you, personally. When trying new products, introduce them one at a time spaced several days apart so you can positively identify what is causing any new adverse reactions.
My skin is pretty reactive and I have eczema, but most of my specific contact dermatitis triggers are not among the most common ones so many products specifically marketed for sensitive skin actually are not viable options for me.
I love the Avene Cicalfate range, I use the serum, eye cream, and moisturiser most nights since I had a bad reaction to an exfoliator a few months ago. For my extremely sensitive skin, I test everything before I incorporate a new product into my routine. Also, the combination of active ingredients can cause irritation, so be careful when layering
There is also a sunscreen that serves me well when my skin barrier is compromised! Love the whole line as well
I am obsessed with the cicalfate serum - I didn't know there was an eye cream too!
I don't think the eye cream is in the cicalfate range, but it's for sensitive skin, and it fits in perfectly. It's called Avene soothing eye contour cream
You rang? 📞 lol this is my fave topic. I have very sensitive, acne prone, clog prone, combo skin. Everywhere. Neutral/olive skin tone and veryyy pale

If any of this gets discontinued I will be unwell 😭
Could you not find a comparable brow pen in a similar color (I’m genuinely curious as someone who uses exclusively cool toned brow products)? I was also wondering if the Fenty Eazy Drops emphasizes dry patches? I saw it in my shade in my local TJ Maxx recently but I didn’t pick it up because I’ve never tried the formula before.
I want to try the new L’Oréal brow pen. I like the NYX ones but the color was never right for me :/ the eaze drop tint can cling to patches, you have to moisturize and prep really well.
My skin is super sensitive, especially on my face, I scratch it and the mark will stay for literally a year, it gets red very easily and dry too. If you have any good skin care routines for similar problem please let me know!
Aveeno Calm & Restore cleanser is the most gentle cleanser I have ever used. Sometimes even basic cleansers like Cerave or Cetaphil sting on my skin and that one does not.
Unfortunately I don’t have a routine either because of super sensitive and red acne prone skin. However, the one thing that has been feeling nice lately is splashing my face with water and putting on neutrogena hydro boost water gel. Let it dry and it doesn’t feel as tight.
I would suggest getting single (or minimal) ingredient products.
Bioderma brand (sensitive line, European formulas), avené brand, pure oils, petroleum jelly, aloe vera gel, Eucerin brand (helps with my eczema flares), and Pipette baby brand.
Pure vegetable glycerin (diluted) has an amazing healing effect for my skin. I mix it fresh before every use and use it as a toner (1 drop glycerin for every 10-20 drops water).
If you ever want to try actives, go low and slow. Use low concentrations and/or types that are designed for sensitive skin. 1-2 times per week can be enough for most actives.
It may take a lot of trial and error since everyone’s skin is different. It took me about two years to zero in on a solid routine. Check for good refund policies and samples. Not sure where your live, but in the USA, stores like target, Sephora, and Ulta have full refund policies on beauty items.
Thank you this was super helpful!!
I’m not sure if this fits your sensitive skin needs. My skin is sensitive because I tend to get eczema flare-up, my routines target calming down inflamed skin and moisturizing: 1. cerave hydrating cleanser or cream-to-foam cleanser 2. Benton aloe propolis soothing gel 3. iope derma repair cica cream (cerava moisturizer is painful to apply on my skin when I have damaged barrier) 4. canmake UV mermaid gel (Elta MD has a version for sensitive skin, but it is still drying for me). I am only using BHA when I have not experienced flare-up after two weeks (PC 2% BHA) and I used this twice or once a week.
i have sensitive skin that easily gets irritated and burns after using some products. I also have combination skin… my nose gets really oily and rough, with little spots, while other areas feel normal or dry.
im looking for gentle, soothing products that can help calm irritation but also control oiliness on my nose without causing more breakouts or burning. any product recommendations or routine tips would be greatly appreciated!
I found Beplain and dr jart really good for sensitive skin.
I second Dr Jart. The cicapair line and ceramidin line saved my skin after laser.
-Rovectin Clean lotus water cream
Been getting pretty good results so far with this routine. I also use some other serums too that are optional for you.
CosRX Discoloration Care - This is also calming and good for spot treatment
La Roche Posay Vitamin C12 serum - This stuff is like liquid gold for my skin. It doesn’t break me out either like other vit c serums. I’m likely going to try some new ones tho because $$$.
Hi guys!! Okay so lately I’ve been really slacking on my skincare and I need to get back into it lol. For reference I'm 24F (I’m going to be 25 soon so I think that’s why I got to kick it into gear) Anyways here’s more about my skin- my skin is SUPER sensitive and very prone to redness. Like, so sensitive that usually every time I try a new product I get a horrible reaction. So unfortunately it’s really hard for me to find new products. Also my skin is pretty fair and prone to sunburns lol. I wouldn’t say I have horrible acne or anything but I do get pimples and breakouts sometimes. I also have struggled with blackheads for years (mostly on my nose, some on my chin). My pores are kind of visible too on my cheeks and I really wanna help with those as well. I also have these tiny bumps on certain areas of my skin like my cheekbones and under eyes. I think it’s called fungal acne but I’m not 100% sure! I guess my main goal is just finding products that cater to those issues and clearing my skin up, while also protecting it and keeping it hydrated. I am trying to drink more water as well which will maybe help. If anyone has any similar experiences or could help in any way it would be greatly appreciated!! Sorry this was kind of long, thank you for reading if you did! :)
Edit: I've had good things from the comments about Somme Institute and Paula's Choice products. I will go ahead and get some from them

I have super sensitive, combo skin and absolutely adore Pyunkang Yul. I used Paula's Choice for years but prefer the PKY stuff (it's more affordable and also lasts way longer even with me slathering it on). Their product names are a bit confusing but just grab ones with the coptis japonica root extract as that is excellent for sensitive, acne prone skin. Paula's Choice is nice too though with lots of options; I just found it to be too expensive for not enough results personally. Good luck and I hope you find something that works well for you!
Hi :) I have very sensitive skin too that gets oily and congested how you describe. I hope this helps:
The basics would be cleanser, moisturizer and spf. I really like the Vanicream Gentle cleanser and Daily Facial Moisturizer. They are affordable, super great for sensitive skin. For summer face spf I’ve been really liking the Cetaphil sheer mineral spf (liquid one in the little bottle). Since you have very sensitive skin you probably only want to use mineral spf on your face (active ingredients will be zinc and/or titanium dioxide for these). Since you are pale you shouldn’t have any issue with white cast from the mineral sunscreens either. You’ll also most likely want to avoid fragrance, essential oils, and stuff that has a lot of botanical extracts, as those are common triggers for skin issues for sensitive skin.
You can add exfoliation products to treat your congestion too if a basic routine isn’t doing enough for you, but what works best and what you can tolerate on your face is super subjective and can be tricky with sensitive skin. I’ve been able to use gentle AHAs without trouble, but strong BHA (salicylic acid) or retinol doesn’t work well for me. If you can tolerate retinols they may give you the best results though. There is typically a purging period with any of these so don’t freak out if you break out when trying one for the first time, you have to give your skin some time to adjust. But if it’s really irritated or you break out in areas you normally don’t you may be having a reaction and should stop using the product.
The most important thing if you are sensitive is to keep your routine minimal. More products = more opportunities for your skin to react poorly to something, or a combination of products causing a reaction.
Edit: I forgot to mention oil cleansers. Double cleansing can really help with congestion without adding exfoliating actives too. I don’t like the ones that foam off personally they tend to irritate me for some reason. I really love albolene, it’s very moisturizing and gentle and removes makeup and spf super easily. You can use a wet cloth or a makeup removing cloth to get it off after massaging it into the face for a few minutes, and then follow with your normal cleaner. Or you could try a cleansing oil that foams off with water if it doesn’t bother your skin, as those are more convenient. I would recommend now and then, maybe 1x or 2x a week, to do a longer oil cleanse where you massage it for up to 10 minutes. You’ll notice a lot of gunk coming out of the pores when you do this. If you do this longer cleanse too often it could overwhelm your skin though.
I would start with a 4 step routine: oil cleanse (at night), cleanser, moisturizer and spf (daytime). (You can skip the moisturizer in the morning if it’s too heavy for you with the spf on top). After your skin adjusts to the routine you can look into adding more exfoliation if needed.
What products for gentle exfoliation worked for you? I used salycilic acid for a while but I’m fairly certain it led to me having dermatitis
I really really enjoy La Roche-Posay hydrating gentle cleanser (white bottle) and purifying foaming cleanser (blue looking kind of bottle). Both of those are life savor when my skin is irritated. The gentler you are, the more likely your acne will subside. For acne... I don't know if you'll be able to tolerate it or not, but, the minute I switched to Bliss clear genius cleanser, my face was clear as day. It says it's a gentle formula and my skin is tolerating it. I recommend it. Good luck.
Less will always be more. Even highly regarded brands have problematic ingredients ( paula's choice and their damned obsession with hydrogenated lecithin)
Short ingredient lists & a basic 3 step routine will be your new life. You do not need 4/5 of the actives recommended here. Figure out what you want to treat. Time & consistency works better than any product could alone.
Skincare is most fun when it isn't causing more problems than it corrects. If you feel like you're missing out, buy the gimmicky stuff to use on your body instead. Fwiw, all this shit is overrated lol.
Most importantly take everything your see here with a grain of salt. I see so much incorrect & otherwise baseless info held as fact here that I only come to the sub when I'm bored at work. The best skincare advice you'll ever get will come directly from your skin. Everyone else is just speaking anecdotally. Just bc a study recommends something doesn't mean your skin wants it!
I’m around your same age and my skin is also pretty sensitive and acne prone. I think the best course action is to visit a derm but if you just want great product recommendations. I’d definitely look into brands such as Somme Institute and Paulas Choice as their products have little fragrance and are generally pretty sensitive skin friendly in my opinion. My favorite skin products from Somme are NOURISHING Cleanser, Non-Drying (holy grail for me), A-Bomb Moisturizing day cream (amazing for sensitive skin), SPF moisturizing lotion (literally the only one that doesn’t break me out). If you’re prone to redness I would give azelaic acid a try. I also use curology tret + azelaic acid for my breakouts though and that does most of the heavy lifting to disclaim
I'm looking to try out some new products and add to my skincare routine. So if you have sensitive skin (like me!), what is something you absolutely love? Could be anything: toners, eye creams, masks, Korean skincare, etc
I've used Avene per my dermatologist's suggestion for a few years and it's been really gentle and great, but they're a bit limited in their line of products. I'm particularly looking for a toner, something to help with redness, and also for those tiny pimples around my nose.
Baby products have never irritated me luckily on my most sensitive days, I really like the Aveeno baby line.
For toner, Rovectin skin essentials activating treatment lotion or Missha Time Revolution artemisia essence are both great for soothing redness.

Idealove so soothe me toner is insane for calming. As is the missha artemesia essence reallittea mentioned. Purito dermide sleeping pack. Pipette baby wash and shampoo fragrance free is mega gentle.
Are you using the baby wash just for face or all over?
It's great for face, body, and hair. Its a very rare product that actually excels in all those uses.
I love the Glam glow mask, the blue one! I haven’t re purchase it because is so expensive but I love it🥹
My skin is super sensitive. which skincare products would be suitable for me? I've used good brands but now looking for a switch to try something new.
I like Skinovation Skincare's vitamin c it has a vitamin c ester for those can't tolerate the asorbic acid and it has strong peptides to combat aging.
I'm acne and oily skin. Currently, I started using Aveeno Face lotion, facial cleanser. So far, it's light and good.
Cetaphil has good products for sensitive skin

What soothes my skin best (very sensitive, gets windburn, beard burn, overexfoliates easily, and now over 3 years on tretinoin, which x 100 to all of the above) :
Oat masks when in crisis. Really.
LRP Cicaplast Baume, with moisturizer under (preferably after an oat mask).
What gets my sensitive skin through the day-by-day: double cleansing, Uriage Bariederm Cica Gel as a daytime moisturizer, Purito Dermide Cica Barrier Sleeping Pack as a nighttime moisturizer.
Same here with the oat masks, altho I haven't needed them since early this year god bless.
For moisturizing and soothing I use: Malezia urea 5%, for both morning and night. Life changing!
The purito moisturizers, this one in particular, are life saving
can you elaborate more on the oat mask?
Sure. It's literally ground whole oats soaked in a bit of water. You can use colloidal oats if you have them where you live. Colloidal oat baths and masks are recommended by dermatologists for a host of skin issues, irritation being the common denominator (Dr. Dray has something on oat masks in a video on YouTube). Oats are great at calming down irritation.
I don't have colloidal oats, so I grind some in a kitchen grinder I don't use for other purposes. Soak some of that powder in water (I eyeball the amounts, but lean towards less water -> more concentrated liquid), and then you can either:
a. apply the mixture to your face, though it will be messy and drip and fall once it begins to dry.
b. soak something in that water that you can then apply to your face as a mask. It can be a blank sheet mask (compressed blank sheet masks are the shit, and they're rather affordable and easy to get on Amazon and in various other places), or it can be some clean cotton pads (the kind you remove makeup with), or gauze, or whatever fabric you have in your house that's clean and can hold some water on your face.
Leave for as much time as you like (this isn't an active mask, so there's no time limit on it, really. You can leave it until it's dry, if you want.) After you take it off, either rinse off the residue, or don't - it can act like a toner, and if you're doing this at night, the stickiness / white residue won't be a problem. Follow with moisturizer and enjoy the feeling of calm, hydrated skin.
Whenever my skin is really angry, I do this mask, pat the remaining liquid into my face, follow with Purito Dermide Sleeping Pack and LRP Cicaplast. I've had bad dryness and irritation disappear completely by morning.
Dapsone Gel (7.5%) and Benzoyl Peroxide face wash have been my holy grails. I went to a derm after claiming defeat from nearly 6 months of Differin, and my acne was at its worse since high school.
I’m not currently using my perscription (forgot it at home while moving for college- oops!) but I haven’t been using it for about a month, and my skin has been fine just with Cerave’s 4% Benzoyl Peroxide wash every morning. I massage it in my skin really well, then leave it on for ~2 minutes while I brush my teeth. I’m far from perfect but I have had nearly clear skin since May.
The next battle is my texture and pigmentation!
I've been using Dapsone gel for years and it has been amazing for my acne, and so gentle! Just a PSA for anyone that reads your post: don't use dapsone and BP at the same time! It will stain your skin orange. Learned that the hard way a few years ago!
> Dapsone
This is the gentlest acne treatment I've ever tried. My derm recently prescribed it to me since my skin can't tolerate anything else anymore, and it's so gentle yet efficacious. It flattens any cysts I get within a week - which I've never experienced before with bp, azelaic acid, BHA, AHAs, sulfur, clindamycin, tret, epiduo, ZO, etc.
Cleared up my acne so quickly it was ridiculous almost. Paired with a BP wash, it did my acne in. Now the face wash is just maintance at this point. If I get some funkiness going on I use it twice a day but that’s so rare for me now.
Ego QV intensive with ceramides wash & Aveeno dermexa body wash are a fucking godsend
cerave hydrating cleanser bar
Hello! I had horrible red cheek and forehead skin, painful acne and large acne and pimples last year. Really sensitive skin last year but I've since been able to repair my moisture barrier. This might be the same case for you!
I realized that I lived in a humid country, and so I needed to Bathe everyday. Washing my face wasn't enough and even if I thought it'd dry out hair - that really helped. I think it was the oil in my hair that was transferring to my face
The second was using a toner as a second cleanser. I prefer using mild water toners on cotton balls, giving my face a swipe, and seeing the dirt come off. I wash my face really well but I don't want to scrub, so this was how I got the dirt out.
I also used a simple bit c cream (Jasons), nothing special. It's not something my mom had laying around (she got it for me), and i think vit c really helped repair my moisture barrier.
Last was applying a really good moisturiser. I apply a gel one over Cerave right now. For me, cerave by itself is just greasy but it absorbs the gel moisturiser amazingly.
Tldr if you live in a humid country maybe try this out!
Hey there!
I have extremely sensitive skin that is sort of dry. I’ve been using Tazorac, which makes it drier than normal (I usually have normal skin). My skin has always been super sensitive though. I’m looking for the best makeup and skincare for sensitive skin. Price isn’t an issue, so long as it works.
Thanks in advance!
I would say talk to a dermatologist first if you can. Tatcha, Tower 28, Dr. Jart, and Skinfix get recommended a lot, but everyone’s skin is so different. For example: Tower 28 made my skin so much worse, but I also can surprisingly use Glow Recipe without any issues even though it contains fragrance. Sometimes it’s just trial and error. Good luck!
Tower 28 as a brand is amazing for sensitive skin. I haven’t had a problem with any one of their products. Their blushes and sunny days foundation are incredible and I love their new moisturizer.
Skinfix has really helped my sensitive naturally really dry skin. I use tret and am in Canada so winter is terrible and it helps keep peeling and flaking mostly under control
I have very sensitive skin. I’m looking for advice on what I can do to help my skin! I only use a face wash and moisturizer during the day and night time I use face wash, eye serum and moisturizer.
Get an rx for azelaic acid… helps with redness, unclogs pores, and hyperpigmentation (the dark spots left behind from acne)! Has done wonders for my skin. Use only cervae or cetaphil or vanicream for your moisturizers and cleansers.
Cleanse/moisturize/azelaic acid twice a day. Helps so much. If you have rosacea the azelaic acid would help too.
I was originally on Tretinoin, but my skin was way too sensitive for it so my derm switched me to the azelaic acid instead :) hope this helps!
Can I ask what moisturizer you use? I have the exact same case as you, had to stop tret
best skincare products for sensitive skin
Key Considerations for Sensitive Skin:
Ingredients: Look for products with gentle, soothing ingredients such as aloe vera, chamomile, calendula, and hyaluronic acid. Avoid fragrances, alcohol, and harsh exfoliants that can irritate sensitive skin.
Hypoallergenic Formulas: Choose products labeled as hypoallergenic, as they are formulated to minimize the risk of allergic reactions.
Patch Test: Always perform a patch test before using a new product to check for any adverse reactions.
Moisturization: Hydration is crucial. Opt for non-comedogenic moisturizers that provide hydration without clogging pores.
Sunscreen: Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher, preferably mineral-based (zinc oxide or titanium dioxide), as they are less likely to irritate sensitive skin.
