TL;DR
Luxury Candle Brands
For those seeking an unbeatable throw and luxurious scent, brands like Jo Malone, Diptyque, and Louis Vuitton are highly recommended. These candles tend to have a higher price point but offer exceptional fragrance and room-filling capabilities [1:2]. Trudon is another luxury brand praised for its quality, with scents like Cyrnos being particularly well-regarded
[2:7].
Affordable and Popular Choices
Bath & Body Works (BBW) offers popular options such as Teakwood Intense and Marshmallow Fireside, which are noted for their strong throw and affordability [1:2]
[4:2]. Aldi candles are also mentioned as good budget-friendly choices
[1:4]. PF Candles, specifically Golden Coast and Tobacco & Teakwood, are recommended for their excellent scent throw
[1:1].
Unique and Niche Scents
Love Trip Candles' Bayside Walk is highlighted for its blend of sea salt, musk, cardamom, and coconut, offering a warm and inviting aroma [2:1]. Votivo candles, particularly Red Currant and Clean Crisp White, are praised for their long-lasting and strong fragrances
[2:2]. Ranger Station's Hoss candle is noted for its cologne-like scent and clean burn
[2:2].
Seasonal Favorites
Fall-themed candles are popular among users, with scents like Leaves from BBW receiving consistent praise for its classic autumn aroma [4:1]
[4:9]. Caramel Pumpkin Swirl is another favorite that users stock up on for its year-round appeal
[5:12]. Goose Creek's Caramel Apple and Sweet Potato Beignet are suggested for those looking for gourmand fall scents

Recommendations Beyond Discussions
While these discussions provide valuable insights into popular and beloved candles, exploring niche or artisanal brands can also yield unique and memorable scents. Consider checking out local candle makers or specialty stores for one-of-a-kind fragrances that might not be widely known but offer delightful aromas.
I wanna get a good brand of candles but having trouble on deciding which one for different parts of my home :) any recommendations would be great!
Jo Malone , Diptyque , and Louis Vuitton
For a unbeatable throw on a candle unfortunately the cost point can go up .. now something like BBW the teakwood intense really has a good throw for 25.00 .
Pfcandles I love Golden Coast and the Tobbaco and Teakwood ones. They have a really good throw
I second PF Candles and want to add in Bijou candles!
Aldi candles
B&BW and Aldi candles for me.
Nest candles are also amazing.
for a candle that will elevate the smell in my house. I want to clean my house and burn it and people come over and think "wow she has it together and it smells expensive in here." What are some of your favorites? I am open to most scent profiles. My husband doesn't like mint, and I don't love anything too artificially sweet (think black cherry merlot from B&BW).
I’m a HUGE fan of Votivo candles. My two favorites are the Red Currant and Clean Crisp White. Their double wick candles are strong and long lasting. They are more expensive than BBW, but they last a heck of a lot longer, too. I swear, I don’t know what they’re doing over at BBW, but the candles burn for shorter and shorter durations…
I also love candles by Ranger Station. They are also very strong, and burn very cleanly. I would venture to say that these have an even stronger throw than Votivo, specifically the Hoss candle (smells like expensive cologne), and Oakmoss. Ranger Station’s Santalum is a dupe of Le Labo’s Santal 26 (a very expensive candle). These candles do not last as long as Votivo candles.
For quality of wax, wick, and fragrance, it’s hard to beat Voluspa. Beware: their Mokara fragrance has absolutely no throw. I’m a HUGE fan of their French Cade Lavender (and I’m not a lavender fan in general, but the lavender here takes a back seat to the Cade wood). If you like earthy, try their Temple Moss. The Eucalyptus and White Sage is very spa-like and smells very herbal. If you prefer Vanilla, try their Baltic Amber or Santal Vanille (Santal Vanille is better in my opinion).
If you’re wanting to spend a lot, my very favorite candle in the world is Ernesto by Trudon. I think Trudon provides the most luxurious candle experience that is available. At $125 for their single-wick, you may not get enough throw to fill the whole house, but it’s my favorite fragrance hands down. I wish they offered it in a sprayable cologne. The three-wick Trudon candle can fill a pretty big room, and it’s a complex fragrance that I haven’t been able to find a less expensive copy of (trust me, I’ve spent hours and hours searching).
Trudon was going to be my suggestion as well, specifically Cyrnos (I'm biased, that's the one I bought haha). The pricetag is an absolute kick in the teeth but I'm legitimately blown away by the quality. I'm being 100% serious, my candle was only lit for 10-15 minutes when I could already smell it filling my room!!! And this was just the single wick size, and Cyrnos as you probably know isn't even a strong scent profile!!! It's also the ONLY candle this winter that hasn't tunnelled on me (it gets veryyyy cold here, even with the central heating turned on. Sigh.). Easily fixable with tinfoil so it's fine but I fully expected to have to crack some out for my 2nd and future burns especially due to its size, but imagine my shock when it was fully melted by the 3h mark. The scent too, it feels too reductive to call it a fig scent... there's layers to it that is so sophisticated. I still despise how much it costs but I will most definitely be repurchasing 😭
Capri Blue Volcano...
I always hear this one mentioned in fancy candle discussions. What does it smell like?
It's citrus. Check out the verdant citrus bloom from Rockwall Candle. It's a dupe. Much cheaper and smells amazing.
Try Bayside Walk from Love Trip Candles, it’s a blend of Sea Salt, Musk, and Cardamom, with a touch of coconut, it’s warm and sexy and smells divine. https://lovetripcandlecompany.com/

Thank you r/Candles
Ohhh that sounds lovely. I will check that out for sure. Thank you!
I'm personally loving BBW's Cherry Blossom Pound Cake (floral and sweet but not overpowering) and Foundry's Lavender Tea (Michael's and Kroger Marketplace sell this one)
Classic black Raspberry Vanilla always hits the spot and makes MY home, remind me of home lol 😆 just my opinion!
OK so I'm on a GC no buy because I have soooo many candles BUT Saturday is my birthday and I'm treating myself :) if you could buy one fall gourmand candle what would it be? I'm so torn between Caramel Apple, Pumpkin Sugar Cookie, Sweet Potato Beignet and Blueberry Skillet but gosh there are so many that I feel like I am forgetting.
My usual go to is Dutch Stroopwaffle but I dont see it anymore on the site....I hope its not discontinued.
I would go sweet potato beignet because it’s new and exciting lol I’ve never smelled it but that would be my pick! I will say I got pumpkin sugar cookie last year and never got around to burning it cuz it’s just kinda ok.
Thank you! I have heard really good things about sweet potato beignet.
Burning it now 🤌🏾😮💨🥰
Pumpkin Sugar Cookie is amazing!
Definitely sweet potato beignet. I haven’t smelled it yet (it’s coming Friday) but the other scents seem to come out every year.
For me it would be Caramel Apple! Love the label too. I just received an order the other week from goose creek and I wanted to place another. However, after going into my candle cupboard 🫣 I really need to stop buying and start burning more lol.. goose creek is fast becoming my fave! I hope you have a lovely birthday on Saturday 🥰.. let us know what candle you decide to treat yourself too.
Same! I have sooo many candles but they keep putting out new scents that sound so good! Shoot im just now burning my Ghost Stories from last year.
Thank you for the birthday wishes :)
Marshmallow snowcream or pinacolda!
Is marshmallow snowcream out yet?
I live in Germany and it was available here!
Saw this BuzzFeed candle playoff chart and had to share!! It’s September Madness for BBW’s prized fall scents. Candles go head-to-head until we crown the ultimate winner.
🕯️ Left side: Fall Festival, Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin, Marshmallow Fireside, Pumpkin Apple, Sweater Weather, Campfire Cocoa, White Pumpkin, Cranberry & Gala Apple.
🕯️ Right side: Pumpkin Spice Latte, Leaves, Autumn Woods, Frozen Lake, Flannel, Wicked Vanilla Woods, Pumpkin Pecan Waffles, Book Loft.
If you ran through these playoffs, which candle would be your finalist, and who’s taking home the championship title? 👑 Mine is Pumpkin Apple.

Marshmallow Fireside, hands down
I love Marshmallow Fireside, but it feels like the candle has gotten weaker and weaker with each passing year. It used to be such a cozy powerhouse, and now the throw just isn’t the same.😕
I'm glad you said this, because I swore the last one I got wasn't as strong smelling!
Ironically, my favorite fall scents aren’t even on here lol
I was just frantically searching for pumpkin carving lol
Leaves
Leaves. 🍂🍁🤎 A stand alone classic, yet pairs well with literally most other Fall candles to elevate. I have loved this one consistently for 10 years now, and still geek out every Fall when I can finally light this beauty up!
This is the most SPOT on review of Leaves and why she reigns supreme!!!
She is the star of fall
Classic!!
Leaves
Leaves!!
I want to see what everyone’s favorite candles from B&BW are!
My number ONE is Carmel pumpkin swirl. I have many other favorites but that’s one I stock up on and burn all year for many years. It never gets old 🔥
Main Street bakery
OMG I love this one! It smells like banana pudding to me lol and I'm not usually a fan of sweet candles but I make an exception here
Funny enough, I have the single wick and I’ve lit it probably 10 times but I light it only for an hour because it’s so strong!
I also really like the new sugar cone crunch it’s a similar scent without the banana notes. 😋
Fiji white sand
Marshmallow fireside
Same. The blueprint for smoky marshmallow scents I swear.
Merry cookie is another favorite! Super yummy!
Hot Cocoa and Cream!! Followed by Champurrado/Feliz Navidad
These 2 are in my top 3- these are SO good! Especially on a cold day! My all time fave is Paris Cafe
Hot cocoa and cream is the best!
Oh those are so good!!! Did you smell the Eggnog candle? I think the name made people turn away from it but I think you would have liked that one also!
I'm looking for the best smelling and throw Halloween/ Fall candle that's not dessert smelling..I also don't like anything cinnamon scented
If you don't like cinnamon don't get Pumpkin Carving because it absolutely smells like cinnamon. That's what the "spiced" part of the scent notes is
I personally love it, because I love cinnamon, but since you don't like cinnamon you should skip that one
Oohh ok thank you..I can't stand cinnamon smell..maybe I should get the Autumn and the leaves ones
Honeycrisp Apple or Sweater Weather
Sweater Weather is truly That Girl.
Read the scent notes on the candle and stay away from any fall candle that says pumpkin spice. It may not list Cinnamon as a separate note but the "spices" usually contains either cinnamon, nutmeg or clove in some combination.
Pumpkin carving.
This is the one I was leaning towards..I want something thats puts me in the Halloween spirit
Yes I completely agree on Pumpkin Carving. I love that one. It's not overly sweet or spicy, just a nice pumpkin scent. Bbw does have a lot of sweet/dessert pumpkin scents lol.
Was gonna be my suggestion too
Halloween: pumpkin carving.
Fall: leaves and Autumn.
Caramel pumpkin swirl or pumpkin carving I need to take one out of my cart and I can’t decide I have a big house so it has to fill as much space as possible
Caramel pumpkin swirl
Caramel pumpkin swirl is super strong
Caramel pumpkin swirl. Strong throw, but I don’t like the scent much sadly.
Caramel Pumpkin Swirl by far. It's very caramel and cinnamon forward, has extremely good throw even after only a few minutes being lit, and well after. Pumpkin Carving also has great throw, just more fresh pumpkin rather than sweet but CPS is an absolute powerhouse.
I’m not someone who strictly rotates candles with the seasons, but some scents just feel right at certain times of the year. These are my quintessential picks:
• Summer: Summer Boardwalk – sweet, salty, and buttery like a carnival treat. ☀️😎👙🍉⛱️
• Fall: Pumpkin Bonfire – smoky, cozy, and spiced to perfection. 🍂🍁🎃🍎
• Winter: Palo Santo – warm, calming, and earthy—ideal for chilly nights. ❄️☃️🥶🧤🧣🏂🎿🏂🎅🧑🎄
• Spring: Fiji White Sands – clean, light, breezy, and uplifting. 🌸🌺🌷🌿🌱🌼
Even if I burn them year-round, these always remind me of the season they represent best. What are your go-to candles for each season? You get to pick only one. 🕯️
That Palo Santo jar is so pretty! 😍
It’s one of the best packaging from BBW. Reminds me of Vincent van Gogh’s paintings. I refuse to burn this jar. 😄
Same here! I just can't! Maybe I'll repot the wax/candle and put a flameless candle in it instead lol
I was going to ask when I go to the store in a little bit if the summer Boardwalk comes in a 3 wick!
Unfortunately, Summer Boardwalk didn’t return this year in the 3-wick format. I made sure to stock up during the $5.95 sale and even used my rewards on the single wick—and honestly, that little thing still packs a punch! Fingers crossed we see it in 3-wick again next year. 🤞
Yes it really does fill the room nicely!
Spring: Fresh Sheets
Summer: Coco Paradise
Fall: Spiced Pumpkin & Patchouli
Winter: Snowflakes & Cashmere
Great choices!! Absolutely love Snowflakes & Cashmere—it’s such a cozy scent in both body care and home fragrance. I just wish the candle had a bit more throw. Really hoping it makes a comeback this year with a stronger version. 😊 As for Coco Paradise… totally slept on it until it disappeared!
Thank you! It was hard to not choose a Christmas scent, but winter is long, and I never tire of a warm and cozy vanilla when it’s snowy and cold outside. Balsam and holiday spices are December-only burns for me.
Coco Paradise needs to return at some point. I have a stash of candles and body care that I am trying to ration.
Your list is great, too! Fiji White Sands is gorgeous and definitely one of my top spring picks as well.
I’m a fool to have not purchased a second Fiji WS.
I believe Fiji White Sands has sold out in most stores and online. You might get lucky if you check a few locations in person. Fingers crossed it makes a comeback in Spring 1 of 2026!
Do they even exist or this is a hypothetical question? You can tell, I don't buy scented candles
these scents pretty much all exist
I am afraid of candles as sources of fire.
I prefer frosted updog
Uh I don't know at all tbh
For me, a good rule of thumb when it comes to what candles I like is potential dessert. Could you find it in a dessert? Vanilla, coconut, banana bread, gingerbread, pumpkin, coffee, caramel: good. Floral anything? Bad.
I bought some of the Better Homes and Gardens ones from Wal Mart, nice scents but not powerful. Used to use Yankee Candle, they're not what they used to be.
Does anyone make a candle that can create an obvious scent inside of a large room without it being faint?
What is your budget? (I’m not really demanding an answer, it’s a question for you to answer in your mind)
If you have the dollars, Diptyque and NEST are very nice. I personally have also had good luck with almost all the Voluspa brand candles strength wise. My very first one (a votive to trial) was a dud but I gave a larger size one more shot because they have REALLY GORGEOUS PACKAGING and BAM! Strong and long-lived. The Japonica collection large jars burn for a CRAZY number of hours. Like I was actively asking it to die so I could move onto another (I’m one that has to burn the whole thing before switching scents) and it would NOT run out.
On the ‘lower’ end yes, B&BW more often than not are quite strong and in my experience anyway 25-45 hours is lies, you will get longer assuming you trim wicks and such. B&BW have a few that I can’t buy anymore because they’re eye-wateringly strong AND I AM LOSING MY SENSE OF SMELL.
I’ve actually found a few of the ‘Mainstays’ Wal-Mart brand strong and pleasant; I like their...um...I think it’s called Woodland Sage....? one a lot. (Hehehe, I don’t know the name, just the distinct gray-green wax color and ‘sage’ is definitely part of the title)
Also, I don’t seem to have the terrible luck with Yankee that everyone else seems to, BUT I avoid categories I know will be weaker than they used to be (the ‘food-type’ scents like lemons and frostings and cookies, summery fruits and fruity beverages, etc). Ocean Star and Summer Storm I had to give away, I was getting choked out. I lurrrrve a few of the Yankees. I have about twelve Lavender and Summer Scoop. (Bizarrely Summer Scoop isn’t a victim of the light-fruity curse). Good luck!! It’s terrible to buy a weak candle, though truthfully a punch-you-in-the-face candle isn’t really pleasant either.
B&BW candles are really good deals when you a) wait for a sale and b) use a coupon when there is a sale. They often do BOGO or ‘candles are $12 today’ or what have you, and then they have coupons for 20% off or $15 off 40 or whatnot and you CAN use both at the same time. Do not pay full price for their candles. They are on sale frequently.
Most White Barn/Bath and Body Works candles are pretty strong; I typically read reviews before buying, since some only smell good on cold.
Victoria's Secret releases candles occasionally and they're really strong.
If you like minty, B&BW's Eucalyptus Mint candle is very strong, best suited for a large space. Most of their gourmand candles are strong. I'm currently burning Pineapple Crumb Cake, and Key Lime Pie.
Are the VS ones carried in stores near you? I'd gotten one as a Christmas gift 2 or 3 years ago, finally got around to using it and I love it. I went there to get a replacement and the associate said they don't carry candles. I'm devastated.
Sometimes, usually during a semiannual sale. But only at the VS Pink stores
I've never had any problems with Yankee Candle but there are some hidden gems among the Walmart collection. My two favorites are Purple Sands and the rarer Pink Sugar Berry. Pink Sugar Berry has a scent throw like you would not believe. You can smell it through my whole house!
My candles fill a room with fragrance faster than any of the luxury brands mentioned below for a fraction of the price. There are several reviews on my site to confirm. Please check them out and let me know if you have any follow up questions. Thank you!
I make my own - the stronger the scent the better ! Feel free to check it out - I’m in Sydney Australia (but do international shipping ) https://www.etsy.com/shop/illuminenight Or @illuminenight on insta
Best-smelling candles on the market
Key Considerations for Choosing the Best-Smelling Candles:
Scent Throw: Look for candles that have a strong scent throw, meaning they can fill a room with fragrance even when not lit. Soy and beeswax candles often have better scent throw than paraffin.
Wax Type: Consider the type of wax used. Soy wax is eco-friendly and burns cleanly, while beeswax is natural and has a subtle honey scent. Paraffin candles can produce soot and may not be as desirable.
Fragrance Quality: Check for candles that use high-quality essential oils or fragrance oils. Natural scents tend to be more pleasant and less overpowering.
Burn Time: Look for candles with a longer burn time, typically 40-60 hours, to ensure you get good value for your purchase.
Brand Reputation: Consider brands known for their quality and customer satisfaction. Reading reviews can help gauge the popularity and effectiveness of a candle's scent.
Top Recommendations:
Diptyque Baies: A luxurious candle with a blend of blackcurrant and rose, known for its sophisticated scent and long-lasting burn.
Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin: A fresh and zesty fragrance that combines citrus with herbal notes, perfect for uplifting any space.
Yankee Candle Clean Cotton: A classic scent that evokes the freshness of clean linens, ideal for creating a cozy atmosphere.
Paddywax Candles: Their line of eco-friendly candles features unique scents like "Cactus Flower" and "Bourbon & Vanilla," which are well-loved for their quality and design.
Nest Fragrances Grapefruit: A vibrant and energizing scent that combines grapefruit with a hint of rosemary, perfect for brightening up your home.
Recommendation: If you're looking for a candle that combines quality, scent throw, and aesthetic appeal, consider starting with Diptyque or Jo Malone. They may be pricier, but their unique fragrances and elegant designs make them worth the investment.
