100% Soy Candle Recommendations

Soy Wax Types
In terms of soy wax types for candle making, Golden Wax 464 is frequently mentioned for its good hot throw and glass adhesion [5:1]
[5:3]. However, preferences can be subjective, and some users add coconut oil to improve performance
[5:2]. It's important to experiment with different waxes to find what works best for your needs.
I recently got the candle bug and started a bit of a collection
What are your favorite candles of all time?
My absolute favorite was the three wick Herbal Essence candles from 1999 ~ 2001 ish. They were wonderful. They had flowers inside of the wax making them appear very feminine ❤️
Wood Cabin by Keap Candles
Kacey Musgraves x Boy Smells Deeper Well candle is top tier. Also Saffron Rose from Paddywax.
Yankee Candle - Sugared Apple, Sage and Citrus, Kitchen Spice, Jasmine Green Tea
Nest - Autumn Plum
Apotheke - Verdant Garden
Boy Smells - Ambrosia
Brands top scents. A Cheerful Giver.
Goose creek.
Candleberry
1.black cashmere. IMO way better version of midsummer night yc.
2. Beach collection. All are good
Sugar cane mist. Sun glitter. Pink sugar.
3. Cranberry. Found several that aren’t my cup of tea. Mainly because I don’t care for cake, muffins, bread, donuts gourmand type scents.
Yankee candle
Chesapeake bay. Lots of good ones.
Curious to see responses. Mine would be Main Street Bakery.
Honestly, favorite home scent in general has to be Pistachio + Toasted Vanilla
I second that !
Pink Lavender & Espresso
That's the one! Originally I said coffee & whiskey and knew that wasn't right 😅
It's the best! I found 2 in last Spring's pink neutral packaging for 75% off yesterday. Made my day!
Marshmallow Fireside
YES. That's definitely on my top two. Hate i can't find any more.
Honestly - there are SO many! Like, give me alllllllll the pine tree scents! However, if I can only choose one for the rest of my life, MF is it.
bergamot waters or sweater weather!
I'm looking to change over to soy candles, but I don't know what brands are good. Also, hoping to find some in holiday scents for gift-giving this Christmas. 100% soy is preferred, but I'll consider anything without paraffin.
Hi, i make 100% soy candles and they’re adorable too! I also use 10% fragrance oil so if you like a strong hot and cold throw this is for you. My website is chemcandles.indiemade.com and you can get a discount by typing in coupon code SEROTONIN
I would say check out Etsy because pretty often you'll find 1. sellers who are extremely upfront about their ingredients, 2. candles for about the equal cost to other quality candles you'd find at a big box store, and 3. small businesses! It's great to support them.
I would recommend Kringle Candle and their Kringle line.
Check out Etsy! Or search for local markets in your area!!

I know all waxes have pros and cons but what are your overall favorite 100% soy waxes? Looking for easy pouring, usability, CT, HT, you know all around favorite. I'm a very beginner candle maker, and I started with a paraffin/soy blend but the dark color of the soot is a bit of a turn off, and I wonder if having harder to see soot from soy is going to be more aesthetically pleasing.
You may like coconut-soy blends if HT and easy pouring are high priorities. I like Canwax CW-135 for cocosoy. Canadian company, not sure what's out there for American cocosoy waxes.
I'm fond of American Soy Organics Freedom Soy Wax. It is a full-soy wax, but not a "pure" soy wax from what I understand -- it has soy-based additives. It's a similar product to Golden Wax 464, but cheaper and fully organic.
I prefer Freedom and GW464 waxes to pure soy waxes like ASO's Midwest Wax or Golden 415. The additives allow for easier pouring without the addition of coconut oil or other waxes. I don't really do anything other than melt my wax to the desired temperature, add fragrance, stir, cool to pouring temp, pour and then wait for the cure.
I haven't had any bumpy top problems with ASO Freedom wax. I may be chased out of this community for admitting this but... I don't even own a heat gun 👀 Golden Wax 464 is slightly trickier to get smooth.
When dyed, both waxes frost like crazy and it's very noticeable. Both waxes dye to a pastel colour, but I feel like Freedom allows for slightly richer colour than GW464.
Full soy is not going to give you the best hot throw. Still, I'm very satisfied with what I can achieve using relatively low (5-7% for most recipes) amounts of soy-compatible fragrance oils in both Freedom and GW464. Cure time is a real thing though, with most scents anyway.
Just a little aside, Freedom wax from American Soy Organics is NOT organic. They use the word “Organics” in their company name, to be sneaky, I guess, but it is definitely not organic, and nowhere on the bag does it claim to be organic. It’s “natural,” which means only that it comes from nature, but doesn’t even mean pesticide-free, unfortunately. I checked into all this. Sucks that they are able to fool most everyone.
I love Ecoysoya CB-Advanced but its always pain to get. Does anyone have a recommendation for anything as good in Australia?
I’m fairly new myself and have only used soy waxes; so far my favorite is ecosoya 135. Not sure if that’s a universal name, I get mine from Candle Science. It’s a little pricier but it’s so easy to work with!!
What is the best type of soy wax? Like 444, 464, etc. I’m new to candle making and want to know which is the better one! Thank you guys.
I’ve use several kinds and I like 464 the best but I add 10 percent coconut oil to keep from getting cold spots.
LIke pickle said, it's subjective. Personally I LOVE 464, but I haven't worked with any other type either. It's supposedly not a wax for beginners, but it made me learn a lot of things quickly
Well you won't get straight answer because there's no such thing as "best wax".
The most popular is 464 but you'll need to test it out to see if it works for you, if not test another waxes and see the differences between them :)
It’s a subjective question. Better hot throw, better glass adhesion 464. Higher melt point less additives 444.
I'm looking for the best smelling and throw Halloween/ Fall candle that's not dessert smelling..I also don't like anything cinnamon scented
Honeycrisp Apple or Sweater Weather
Sweater Weather is truly That Girl.
If you don't like cinnamon don't get Pumpkin Carving because it absolutely smells like cinnamon. That's what the "spiced" part of the scent notes is
I personally love it, because I love cinnamon, but since you don't like cinnamon you should skip that one
Oohh ok thank you..I can't stand cinnamon smell..maybe I should get the Autumn and the leaves ones
Read the scent notes on the candle and stay away from any fall candle that says pumpkin spice. It may not list Cinnamon as a separate note but the "spices" usually contains either cinnamon, nutmeg or clove in some combination.
Pumpkin carving.
This is the one I was leaning towards..I want something thats puts me in the Halloween spirit
Yes I completely agree on Pumpkin Carving. I love that one. It's not overly sweet or spicy, just a nice pumpkin scent. Bbw does have a lot of sweet/dessert pumpkin scents lol.
Was gonna be my suggestion too
Halloween: pumpkin carving.
Fall: leaves and Autumn.
I want to see what everyone’s favorite candles from B&BW are!
My number ONE is Carmel pumpkin swirl. I have many other favorites but that’s one I stock up on and burn all year for many years. It never gets old 🔥
Main Street bakery
Funny enough, I have the single wick and I’ve lit it probably 10 times but I light it only for an hour because it’s so strong!
I also really like the new sugar cone crunch it’s a similar scent without the banana notes. 😋
OMG I love this one! It smells like banana pudding to me lol and I'm not usually a fan of sweet candles but I make an exception here
Hot Cocoa and Cream!! Followed by Champurrado/Feliz Navidad
Oh those are so good!!! Did you smell the Eggnog candle? I think the name made people turn away from it but I think you would have liked that one also!
Merry cookie is another favorite! Super yummy!
Marshmallow fireside
My absolute fave
Same. The blueprint for smoky marshmallow scents I swear.
PINK LAVENDER AND ESPRESSO, good lord it's soooo cozy.
Fiji white sand
Hi guys!
I'm new to candle making and am unsure of what type of waxes to use. I bought the NatureWax C3 but was wondering if there were any other suggestions for waxes (particularly ones that are easier to get a strong fragrance throw with).
Also, do Parasoy blends count as "soy candles" still?
Thanks!
Are you making them in containers? If so, I really like this Golden Wax 464. A lot of candle supply stores have their own charts with recommendations too.
Yes I am! I use ECO wicks and mason jars. What temperature do you add fragrance at / pour? I feel like I’ve read so many conflicting things.
So, I don't sell them, it's just a hobby for me. I'm probably not the best to ask specific questions to, BUT I add fragrance around 180(ish)and pour around 140 (ish).
FWIW, I absolutely hate ECO wicks so if you're having performance issues I wouldn't necessarily point straight to the wax, I'd try different wicks.
You’re always going to get a stronger throw with paraffin or paraffin blends, but you will lose the customer who wants 100% soy/avoids paraffin. Up to you to decide what concessions to make because no wax is going to be perfect for everyone.
This is it, right here, OP. If you are planning to sell eventually, you need to consider this whole "natural" market.
That said, nothing preventing you from doing both paraffin and soy candles or selling some 100% soys and some blends! I find that people who see the candles in person at farmer's markets or craft fairs etc. don't usually care what is in it. They just want a strong smelling and good looking candle. Online may be different, I don't sell online yet so I am not sure. Just have a page for "natural waxes" would be alright, I would think.
Is there a blended formula you recommend? Or any personal preferences with soy wax? Thanks!
I like the IGI 6006 PARAFFIN/SOY BLEND WAX
Thank you! What temperature do you add fragrance / pour at?
I add the fragrance at 185 and pour at 170°, the hot/cold throw turns out amazing!
Yes I make container candles. I haven’t had any issues with cracking, tunneling, etc with this wax.
I have previously used Eco Wick and TCR wick. They both seem to have an unpleasant smell when the flame is extinguished. Any suggestions on which wicks I can use?
Have you ever tried dipping the wick in the melted wax to extinguish it? It doesn't smoke that way. I have a metal tool from Wickman called a wick dipper that does a great job and easily wipes clean. And if a wick is ever burning off center, I can use the tool to reposition the wick to get a more even burn.
Yes I have done that but I noticed that it discolours the wax. What wicks do you use?
Depends on the candle size and type. Mostly LX in soy pillar blend votives and pillars. Usually HTP in tins.
i love fall scents especially the macintosh apple candle. it just brings me back to when i used to go to the apple orchard with my family and it smells so good
Vanilla
Fresh cut grass
Cinnamon roll
Unwined Candles - it's a tie between their Vanilla Bean and Hot Chocolate candles. Nomnom.
best soy candles
Key Considerations for Choosing the Best Soy Candles
Ingredients: Look for 100% soy wax candles, as they burn cleaner and longer than paraffin candles. Check for natural fragrance oils instead of synthetic ones.
Burn Time: Quality soy candles typically have a longer burn time. A good rule of thumb is about 10-12 hours of burn time per ounce of wax.
Scent Throw: Consider how well the candle disperses its fragrance. A good soy candle should have a strong cold throw (scent when unlit) and hot throw (scent when lit).
Wick Type: Wooden wicks provide a unique crackling sound and a more even burn, while cotton wicks are common and effective. Look for lead-free wicks for safety.
Container: Choose candles in heat-resistant containers to prevent cracking or breaking. Glass jars or metal tins are popular options.
Recommendations:
Paddywax Candles: Known for their high-quality soy wax and unique scents, they offer a variety of stylish containers.
Yankee Candle: Their soy blend candles provide a strong scent throw and a wide range of fragrances.
Homesick Candles: These are great for evoking memories of specific places, made from natural soy wax with unique scents.
Etsy Brands: Many small businesses on Etsy offer handmade soy candles with unique scents and eco-friendly packaging. Look for sellers with good reviews.
Choosing a reputable brand ensures you get a quality product that aligns with your preferences for scent and sustainability.
