TL;DR
General Debate Subreddits
Several subreddits are dedicated specifically to debates across various topics. r/ChangeMyView is a well-known subreddit where users post opinions they hold and invite others to challenge them, fostering respectful debates [2:2]
[4:2]. Another option is r/BalancedDebates, which aims to provide a platform for discussions that include diverse perspectives
[2:3].
Specialized Debate Subreddits
For those interested in specific topics, there are subreddits tailored to particular areas of interest. r/PoliticalDebate offers a space for political discussions, while r/DebateSocialism and r/DebateReligion focus on socialism and religion respectively [2:2]. These specialized subreddits can be useful for engaging with individuals who share or challenge your views on these subjects.
Directories and Lists
The directory provided by r/findareddit includes a comprehensive list of subreddits related to debating and comparing opinions [2:1]
[3:1]
[4:1]. This resource can help you discover additional communities that may align with your interests in debate.
Creating Debates in Existing Communities
While dedicated debate subreddits exist, any subreddit can become a place for debate depending on the topic and community engagement. For example, controversial posts on subreddits like r/politics or r/dankmemes often spark debates [5:1]
[5:3]. Engaging with these communities can lead to lively discussions, although the tone may vary from respectful to heated.
New and Emerging Subreddits
Some newer subreddits, such as r/GreatDebate and r/debatewithrespect, aim to create spaces for thoughtful discussion and respectful debate [1:1]
[1:2]. While they may not yet be as established as other options, they could offer fresh platforms for engaging debates.
Similar to r/unpopularopinion but with better mods.
Try r/debatewithrespect maybe?
I can't say it's the best because I just finished making it, but maybe one day it could be. It's called r/GreatDebate.
maybe r/changemyview
or if you’re looking to debate about something more specific maybe r/PoliticalDebate, r/DebateSocialism, or r/DebateReligion
Thanks, appreciate it!
Definitely check out r/BalancedDebates if you are looking for a wide spectrum of different perspectives.
Join r/skibidipodcast This is a new sub, but soon enough you will have plenty of people to discuss this. There is a politics flair along with a discussion anything. If you see memes, advertisements, and other pictures, those are for other things, but this subreddit has politics and debate/discussion as flairs
Hello, your post or comment has been removed. r/findareddit is not for subreddit promotion, it is for finding subreddits.
If you'd like to promote your community, please use /r/promoteareddit, /r/promotereddit or /r/newreddits.
I mean any subreddit can be a debate subreddit if you know what I mean.
True
Heres a part of the directory for debates: https://www.reddit.com/r/findareddit/wiki/directory#wiki_debating_.2F_comparing_opinion
r/ChangeMyView
!found how do I do it?
Click “see more” at the top for an overview
r/politics if you like owning the libs 😎
The comments section of any r/dankmemes post about a controversial topic LOL
r/vegan
Go on the star trek subs and tell them star wars is better. Do the opposite thing on the star wars subs. Go into the r/politics sub and say something like bernie sanders and AOC are both capitalistic racist jerks. Watch the debates fly
I often use the subreddit r/changemyview to debate.
Recently, a post of mine was removed for soapboxing, even though that is not at all what I was doing?
Is there another subreddit that I can use to debate about the stuff I want to debate about?
I suppose I could go to this subreddit ( https://www.reddit.com/r/PoliticalOpinions/ ), but not all of the things I want to debate about are political necessarily.
I actually asked this question on the subreddit r/findareddit, ( here is a link to that post https://www.reddit.com/r/findareddit/comments/17a89ap/are\_there\_any\_subreddits\_specifically\_for\_debating/ ) and so far no one has responded to that post with an answer.
r/changemyview r/explainbothsides r/DebateAVegan r/debatemeateaters r/DebateAnAtheist r/DebateAChristian r/DebateReligion r/DebateEvolution r/Debateanarchism r/Debatecommunism
I had the exact same thing happen.
On that sub if you say "yellow and blue make green" and everyone says you're wrong that it makes red, no matter the evidence you provide to support your argument, you have no recourse when a biased mod claims you're "soapboxing" because you have to show you're open to believing something that is absolutely wrong and no amount of factual evidence can battle the bias of the mods.
Is this the right room for an argument?
r/SeriousConversation?
Its not a debate sub however.
r/AIMindControl
Just looking for a place to talk about issues without getting dogpilled on because you have a different opinion.
/r/AskPolitics though it’s geared towards American politics only
r/changemyview
That seems to be more structured than others
Yeah I liked it a lot. Might even appeal my ban sometime, it's been a couple months.
I doubt there is one for respectful debate. I've only had one or two encounters of respectful debates where the person I was debating against just wanted to see my view, and I wanted to see theirs.
I wish these debates could happen respectfully, but many people get all nasty when politics is involved, for whatever reason.
Right!? Unfortunately it’s in these respectful debates that we can become less polarized.
Exactly! Civility means that people are more likely to listen, thus causing them to see your side! But people think screaming and crying is gonna do that, like toddlers.
Sir, this is Reddit
IT’S MA’AM! (In my deepest raspy voice 🤣)
r/shortcels
r/karmacourt
r/feminism. Half the stuff said there is so dumb there’s no way it’s not a joke. Just scrolling through there I’ll actually laugh out loud- it’s funny to see the people there with their opinions that, when their opinions are challenged, will do nothing but call you racist and sexist for disagreeing with them
