TL;DR
Casting Speed and Damage
Radagon's Icon is a staple talisman for mage builds, as it significantly boosts casting speed, making it feel like you have 40 dexterity [1:6],
[3:2]. This can be crucial in situations where quick spell casting is necessary. The Graven Mass Talisman is another essential choice, as it enhances the potency of sorceries, providing a substantial boost to magic damage
[1:2],
[3:12].
Equip Load and Stamina
For those who are looking to balance equip load with their mage build, the Great Jar's Arsenal can be useful, although its benefits may be limited unless you're using a very heavy setup [1:2]. Additionally, stamina recovery is important for continuous spellcasting, making the Green Turtle Talisman a valuable option
[2:1].
Defensive Options
The Ritual Shield Talisman is highly recommended for its ability to increase all resistances after taking a hit, which can be particularly useful for mages who might be vulnerable during casting [2:1]. Other defensive options include the Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman, which offers significant physical damage negation
[3:4].
Additional Recommendations
Several other talismans were mentioned that cater to specific playstyles or setups. The Magic Scorpion Charm provides a notable increase in magic damage but at the cost of increased damage taken, making it suitable for glass cannon builds [2:9],
[5:5]. For hybrid builds involving incantations, Marika's Soreseal can be beneficial, although it comes with some downsides
[2:1].
In summary, selecting talismans for a mage build in Elden Ring involves balancing offensive capabilities with defensive needs and equip load considerations. Tailor your choices based on your specific build and playstyle, and don't hesitate to switch talismans depending on the situation or boss fight.
2 are gonna be about equipment loading. So Eder tree and that jar one. The other would I assume he directly related to magic ability. What should I pick?
Radagons Icon, and Graven Mass are pretty much staples in my opinion.
The other 2 depends on your set up to be honest.
Keep in mind that unless your going extremely heavy set up mage, Great Jar's Arsenal is not as good as it might sound.
On most builds that have anywhere between 18-25 endurance, Great Jar's Arsenal only amounts to about 6 attribute points that you otherwise would have to put into Endurance to get same equip load.
Using +5 Intelligence talisman and naturally put those 6 points into Endurance would get you a similar result, except you would end up with slightly more stamina and Robustness.
Thank you. I relatively am a heavy mage. I wanna wear mainly bull goat and veterans, my endurance is really low, maybe 15.
If your going really heavy and I mean REALLY heavy, you might want to just look into using Winged Crystal Tear physick.
It's kinda cheesy and it does put you on a 3 minute timer, but if you can end fights before that it's undeniably broken and it saves you potentially a few talisman slots and gives you more points to put into Intelligence.
Radagons icon is really good. Other than that stamina is a issue early on. More stamina means you can cast more spells. So talisman that increase stamina and the turtle talisman are on par with any other good talisman for sorcerers.
Graven, Radagon, Godfrey, Scorpion, etc.
Plenty to choose from.
Yeah my current thought was try to get graven mass, how much does the spell speed stuff matter though? With ragadon
The icon is as if you spec’d in 40 dex
It adds up. Can let you cast spells in situations that otherwise wouldn't have enough of a window. Probably not something you would use in every fight. There's not really a best set of talismans for everything, switch up as needed.
With Shadow of the Erdtree now out, i think it's appropriate to list the new spell-related talismans, not including their locations to avoid spoiling too much.
Cerulean Seed Talisman +1: Greatly increases FP restored by Flasks of Cerulean Tears.
Beloved Stardust: 99 virtual dexterity (a whole lotta casting speed for both sorceries and incantations) in exchange for -30% on all damage negation.
Blessed Blue Dew Talisman: Restores 0.5 FP per second
Outer God Heirloom: +5 Arcane
Talisman of the Dread: 14% increase to the potency of magma
Flamedrake / Spelldrake / Boltdrake Talismans +3: Boosts damage negation in their respective categories by 22%
Pearldrake Talisman +3: Boosts non-physical damage negation by 11%
Golden Braid: Boosts Holy damage negation by 22% (does not stack with Haligdrake talisman or its +1/+2 variants)
Both graven talismans, magic scorp, Godfrey icon, lusats staff (best scaling imo) and moonveil for a battlemage
There are a lot of good options. My personal favorites are (in no order):
Marika's is good, especially for int+fth builds, but comes with downsides. Can be super useful early game for hitting casting requirements though.
Ritual Shield Talisman might be my #1 pick for most useful talisman on a mage. It lets you put less points into vigor. Increases damage negations by ~20-25% across the board when you're at full HP in light armor. That's kind of huge.
If an attack was going to do 1000 damage, now it does 750. That's like 10 levels of vigor that you can put into something else. And if you're playing low vigor, your flask heals you to full every time. So you essentially always get that negation boost unless you take chip damage. And since it's a percentage, the further you are in the game, the more stats it saves.
Should be noted though that the negation boost seems to be dependent on your base negations. If base negation is 40, it won't stack to like 65, it'll come out at more like 57. Still big gains though.
No love for the magic scorp? 12% extra damage is pretty significant imo, especially when paired with the ritual shield or dragon greatshield to mitigate the extra damage
Yeah I know it exists because I've found all the other ones, but I haven't found that one yet.
Just looking at the other ones now. With Ritual Shield Talisman, looks like you lose ~6% physical negation for 12% extra damage. So yeah I agree that looks pretty solid. I'd probably put it in the rotation if I had it.
This is what I get for trying not to look up item locations lol.
Edit: By the way, don't tell me where it is! I haven't suffered enough yet!
I’m seeing that magic scorpion is nerfed in pvp to 8% damage and +15% damage taken so I’m told it’s not great for any pvp build.
What about Meteorite Staff for S Intelligence scaling?
Graven mass is better than craven school
You can use both at the same time w magic scorpion to get 24%
this guy knows ball
Are you a glass cannon built cause 89 int with 23 vig and 21 mind is crazy to me. I’d put some points into them and balance it out a little.
For gear it’s not too bad I personally preferred a more robust armour with the blue hood. I’d also lose the soreseal and equip the primal Glintstone blade talisman when you get it and Lusats Glintstone Staff too.
I dont like all the talismans that give a malus. I am just running with graven school until I get mass and radagon or maybe godfrey
Currently running through the DLC. Rate my mage build please!
Vigor 60 Mind 38 Endurance 24 Strength 10 Dexterity 40 Intelligence 80 Faith 18 Arcane 9
If you’re curious about the 18 faith then it’s for the heal from afar incantation that I can use on myself as well as allies, and it heals just as much as lord’s heal. Also I can throw on the two fingers heirloom if I want to use some incantations with the golden order seal
The talismans that I use most of the time are radagon icon, two headed turtle talisman, dragoncrest great shield, and the graven mass talisman. Sometimes I switch it around depending on the boss
Edit: If you’re not gonna rate my build and just be a smart ass then get out of my sight
I think it shows you know exactly what you’re doing!
I’m assuming the 40 DEX is to combine with the virtual 30 DEX from Radagon Icon for max. casting speed? If not, that’s a nice coincidence.
Also 18 FAI lets you use all the Magma sorceries, so you already have access to fire damage if you need it.
Usually by RL220, if you have been thrifty with your stat points, it’s possible to have two damage stats at 80 each. You’re halfway there with DEX, so that opens up some more options for you, like Cold, Keen, and Lightning affinity weapons.
All in all, good job! What’s on your mind for your secondary damage stat?
That’s correct. 40 dex with radagon icon feels very smooth.
For my secondary damage stat it’ll probably be dex. I could say screw 60 vigor and lower it to 50 and possibly throw out the faith altogether. That would get me to 80 int and 80 dex by level 220
Eh, I don’t think that’s at all necessary; you’ve already explained your stat allocation well. Why suddenly ditch the Heal from Afar if it has served you well so far? I was only giving an example, not a rule. It’s nice having 60 VIG, too.
The one benefit when you finally cross 70 in DEX is you can use a more damage-boosting talisman. Your build is good but might be a tad too defense-focused.
So thats what the dex is for I see.
I’d say it’s a pretty decent build. Vigor looks good and intelligence looks good. Plus you hit the soft cap for casting speed.
If you want to then by level 220 or so you can have two primary damage stats like the other guy said. 9/10
Also don’t listen to these assholes that are being negative for no reason
>"r8 my mage build"
>it's just 80 int
I think the stat spread is very optimal other than the 80 int
A build is not "optimized" if it has the freedom to allocate stat points wherever you feel like.
Pretty good! I would pump faith to 25 for Golden Vow
Yeah I’m gonna do that next
I say its a great build. 9/10
Appreciate it
Here is everything I use including my incantations, please help me with the talismans.. or maybe if you see something I could make better tell me :)
Carian filigreed crest, cause the ash uses a ton of fp. You could switch this out with Dragoncrest greatshield if you feel too squishy. Alexander’s jar shard for more AOW damage. Two handed is a no brainer, especially on colossal swords. I really like retalliatory crossed tree because the crouch poke on colossal swords is the best part of the moveset, and boosting that goes a long way.
Ok will try So you mean the crouch poke is good on this weapon and I should use/try it?
Yes, the crouch/rolling attack comes out really quickly, utilises the reach of the sword very well (because it is a stab), and does pierce damage which deals more damage to enemies in the middle of an attack animation, and is also just the best damage type because few enemies resist it and many are neutral/weak to it.
Seems fine for your level
Although I notice you're missing the best incantation in the (base) game, Ancient Dragon Lightning Strike
If he’s gonna do that he should hide a gravel stone seal on his right hand to swap to before he casts with his left. Free 15% boost
Is malikeths black blade good? What’s it do?
It's damn good Bro
Skill is destined death
The obvious answer would be Shard of Alexander.
Shard of alexander obviously. The carian filigreed crest is good too, since the ash is pretty fp heavy. Two handed sword is always good too. Personally, i like to keep one talisman flex slot for defensive stuff. Dragoncrest greashield, crimson seed +1, two headed turtle etc
*Using Magic-Shrouding Cracked Tear and Crimson Crystal Tear in my Flask *just beat Renalla, I’ve mainly using rock-sling up to this point(it’s fun but can kinda be boring) *what other cool spells have you all found to enjoy PVE and melt Bosses? *also, stat allocation wise, how am I looking thus far? (I already cashed in Renalla’s remembrance for the Carian Regal Scepter so I’m looking forward to that)
Any advice regarding talismans/armor/SPELLS or just any general constructive criticism is greatly appreciated. Cheers!
Get the intelligence tear and glint stone crown
Get more memory slots and please get vigor to 60. I have my mind at 50. I know it's kinda of high but it got me through the base game and the dlc.
Go to the twin maidens and buy the 4th pouch would be a good start
Magic scorpion charm
Put the staff of loss in your off hand to get 30% damage bonus to night comet
What are the top 4 talismans for mages? What do you have equipped?
Among the top can be found Magic Scorpion Charm (+12% magic dmg), Primal Glintstone Blade (reduced FP costs), Ritual Sword Talisman (+10% dmg full health) or Red-Feathered Branch Sword (+20% dmg at 20% health) if you like gambling it all.
I think the Graven Mass Talisman is sadly too weak (only 8% dmg on sorceries).
The last talisman can be a stat-boosting one or anything else you'd need in some situations.
I run a faith caster so I dont know if thats what you're looking for. I run dragoncrest talisman, faithful flocks talisman, godefrey talisman I believe(the one that strengthens charged spells), and lightning scorpion charm.
I run a caster mage and solo... 38 mind, 80 int, 25 endurance the rest vigor.. other stats are base. Carian regal scepter
My go to 4 are: Radagons icon, Magic scorpion, Ritual sword and Graven mass talisman....
So that's Cast speed, and just plain damage talisman... I do not use the soreseals cause I'm already min max at that point of the game and the extra damage you take just isnt worth it...
Godfrey talisman is not good IMO as there are only a few instances where charging is somewhat beneficial.... Godfrey's icon does not affect azur comet... It can affect stars of ruin but against bosses that are super mobile, very Risky... and besides without the icon, I can already oneshot trash mobs anyways
If I want lusats, I will change the graven mass to Primal glintstone blade..
hello mages and astrologers, which 3 talismans are you using and why so far?
crimson amber +2 for health, graven school for damage, erdtree's favor +2 for health stamina and equip load, radagon icon for cast time. its all pretty self explanatory
radagon icon is trash, people did the maths and it barely reduces casting by 0.1 seconds for a glintstone pebble so not that self explanatory
Same story for crimson amber, useless thing lol why would you ever want that
crimson amber +2 gives me 150 hp, i have 60 vigor and i would need 85 to get another 150 hp. its literally 25 stat points saved by that talisman that i can allocate elsewhere. idk what ur talking about dude these talismans are amazing
Disagree.
You'll notice a difference when casting spells that take a while to go out.. Now with something like Glintstone Pebble, you likely won't notice a difference..
LOL go cast comet azur with radagon and then without it, and tell me its trash. it reduces the channel wind up by nearly a full second man
I am using:
At the very beginning I recommend dragoncrest shield for more defences, but once you get to the academy you can grab the graven school talisman and radagon’s icon. Then, try seluvis’ quest for magic scorpion and ranni’s for stargazer heirloom. At the beginning of altus there’s godfrey’s icon and in the mountaintops there’s graven mass talisman, witch stacks with graven school. Make sure u grab the int and magic physic tears and rennalla’s crown, but never go past 80 total int after buffs/bonuses
Graven Mass Talisman, Stargazers Heirloom, Radagons Icon, Magic Scorpion Charm
Graven mass talisman, radagons icon, Godfrey’s icon, and magic scorpion charm is what I would recommend.
Graven mass: increase sorcery by lot
Graven school: increase sorcery
Godfrey: increase damage of charged spell
Radagon: increase cast speed
Stargazers: increase int
Erd tree favour : increase health fp and equip load
Crepus vial: makes stealth easier
Concealing veil: makes stealth easier when crouching
Lowering defense needs to be mitigated in end game when even common mobs hit like 18 wheelers.
Magic scorpion: increase magic damage but decrease defense
Marika Soreseal: increase mind int faith arcane a lot but decrease defense
Marika scarseal: increase mind int faith a lot but decrease defense
Drgoncrest shield: increase physical defense
Pearldrake: increase non physical defense

Idk if you messed up the format of your post, or if it’s an issue on my end, but I don’t see any info about what your build is.
Without knowing what main stats you want to focus on, weapons, incantations, sorceries, something it is impossible to pick a direction to give advice in.
If you just want a general answer, well, I guess I’ll say:
Viridian Amber Medallion +3
Cerulean Amber Medallion +3
Crimson Amber Medallion +3
and Seal of the Erdtree +2
Whatever your build ends up being, it would be difficult to end up getting no benefit out of each of those.
hello mages and astrologers, which 3/4 talismans are you using and why so far?
Right now: The one that improves spell casting time (I think its Radagon's Icon or something like that?), Radagons Soreseal, and Marika's Scarseal.
Has anyone tested the improvement from the spell casting one yet? I barely notice a difference with it on. I know a tenth of a second can count, but when I'm 20hp from oneshotting some people I sometimes wonder if I should use more glass cannon talismans
I haven't seen a test yet and its hard to tell without someone presenting a side by side, so I'm really not sure. I've kept it on knowing it might be helping or it might be a dead slot.
I use cerulean amber medallion because I can never have enough FP, armament (?) talisman (the one that raises EQ load) because no endurance, and that one that boosts spells from the secret area in Raya Lucaria.
Pot-man Armament talisman is the only way to go for that one
Old lord talisman
Turtle, Grave, Carrigan Filigreed
Staff only mage here.
Moon of Nokstella when exploring - +2 spell slots (I only use 1-4 spells on bosses)
Marika’s Soreseal - increases important mage attributes, free buff
Cerulean Seed Talisman - increases amount replenished by flask of cerulean tears
Graven-mass Talisman - boosts potency of sorceries. I haven’t tested it, but I believe it increases damage of spells and decreases FP consumption slightly
Note: Radagon icon is near useless. There’s a few spells that the faster speed is noticeable on, but for all of the S tier spells it’s not noticeable.
Note: if you rock a melee weapon you might require different options, but if you’re spell heavy this build is great.
Note: low-level I used stargazer-heirloom to boost intelligence (+5 int = more spell damage) but I no longer need this as I’ve reached the intelligence level cap (90)
Edit: if I’m boss fighting or mini-boss fighting I’ll swap out the cerulean seed talisman for a damage negation, and swap the moon of nokstella for something else I need (holy damage negation for example)
best talismans for mage build in Elden Ring
Key Considerations for Talismans in a Mage Build:
Boosting Spell Damage: Look for talismans that enhance your sorcery damage or increase your overall intelligence, as this will directly impact your spell potency.
Reducing Spell Costs: Some talismans can help reduce the FP cost of spells, allowing you to cast more frequently without running out of resources.
Increasing Casting Speed: Talismans that boost casting speed can be beneficial for a mage, enabling quicker spell deployment in combat.
Defensive Options: Consider talismans that provide additional protection or resistances, as mages are often more vulnerable in close combat.
Recommended Talismans for a Mage Build:
Carian Filigreed Crest: Reduces the FP cost of sorceries, allowing you to cast more spells without depleting your resources too quickly.
Ritual Shield Talisman: Increases your damage negation when your shield is raised, which can be useful if you find yourself in melee range.
Graven-School Talisman: Boosts the potency of your sorceries, making your spells more effective against enemies.
Radagon's Scarseal: Increases your intelligence, dexterity, and endurance, which can be beneficial for a balanced mage build.
Magic Scorpion Charm: Increases magic damage dealt but also increases damage taken, so use it wisely in situations where you can avoid damage.
Takeaway: Tailor your talisman choices based on your playstyle and the specific spells you prefer. Combining offensive and defensive talismans can create a well-rounded mage build that excels in both damage output and survivability.
