GlobalComix
GlobalComix is frequently mentioned as a strong alternative to Webtoon. It has become a popular choice for creators who felt undercut by Webtoon's new policies, particularly those affecting Canvas creators [2:1]. Users appreciate its creator-friendly environment and the platform's openness to diverse content, including mature comics
[3:1],
[4:3].
Tapas
Tapas is another well-regarded platform, often compared to Webtoon but with some distinct advantages. It offers advanced statistics and allows readers to support creators through a system of "ink," which can be used to unlock premium content [3:2]. However, it lacks promotion opportunities for new authors unless they are noticed by admins or bring their own audience
[3:2]. Tapas is noted for having better community engagement tools compared to Webtoon
[5:1].
NamiComi
NamiComi is highlighted as a creator-first platform that is not driven by monetization, making it an attractive option for those disillusioned with Webtoon's commercial focus [4:2]. It has been praised for achieving more in three years than Webtoon in terms of supporting creators, with notable artists like Hanza and Merryweather moving there
[4:4].
ComicFury and Inkverse
Both ComicFury and Inkverse are mentioned as viable alternatives, though they may not have the same level of traffic as larger platforms like Webtoon and Tapas. They offer unique features such as print and merchandise options, which can be appealing for creators looking to expand their offerings [3:1],
[4:1].
Dillyhub and Lemoon
Dillyhub is noted as a promising but still small platform, suggesting potential for growth and development [1:10]. Lemoon is also listed among the alternatives, although specific details about its features or community were not discussed in depth
[4:1].
Overall, while Webtoon remains the largest platform, these alternatives provide various benefits and features that might appeal to different creators and audiences, especially those seeking a more supportive or less commercialized environment.
I already know of Tapas, but anything that isn't Webtoon could work. I need to find one that is legitimately supportive of the LGBTQ+ community and all-inclusive. I do want to publish some webcomics, specifically like the Webtoon stories, but on a better platform.
I would appreciate if you could provide links, just so we could avoid pranks and be respectful.
Pocket comics, webcomics app, global comix, medibang, comicfury.
eh not webcomicsapp, they're sketchy as all hell and don't really have anything to offer lol (they've started bot spamming webcomic creators in their IG DM's and such).
I wouldn't say they're sketchy, since theyre open about the fact they're not gonna pay you😂 And that their "contracts" don't actually pay you. They've tried scouting me twice. op was asking where they could post a comic on. WA is somewhere, even if I personally wouldn't. It's free to post there and they have an audience already
What bad stuff is going on with webtoon ? Sorry, I’m clueless…
Whats going on with webtoon?
OP was probably talking about these two posts last week
Same, I'm also confused? Didn't see anything on this sub or twitter bring up any recent controversy/complaints about Webtoon
Raising coin prices/uneven amount of coins, oversaturated with the constant new releases, only promoting the already big series with banners. They have been quite a lot of posts actually. I see at least one a day at this point
Dillyhub looks promising, but it's still small.
If I can help clear up some of the "bad stuff" that's going on:
1.) Many people have been stepping forward and discussing some of the faults in Webtoon's design, particularly with how they treat their Originals section (it's become very oversaturated as of late to the point of - reportedly - their own Originals creators not making anything due to lack of proper promotion) as well as their UI design which is lacking a lot of features that could benefit both readers and creators (read later lists, better tagging/search function, better comment moderation, more file format uploading options, better backend stat viewing, etc.)
2.) The cost of some Webtoon Originals series has gone up very slightly. Frankly I don't think this one's a huge deal because the price difference is literally 20 cents and it's likely there to make up for the fact that there are now weekly free coin events in the Canvas section (these free coin events were not this often prior to them raising the coin cost from 5 to 7 coins on select series) so people are getting a lot more free coins more regularly and WT likely doesn't want this to ruin the Originals' section economy.
3.) The Daily Pass system which I can agree is just all around terrible and ruins the re-read potential for a lot of completed comics. Many are wanting a 'one time payment' method rather than the system they have currently which hands out an episode a day and any episodes purchased with coins to read early are prone to expiration (i.e. you can unlock an episode in Daily Pass, but only get access to it for a set number of days before you have to re-unlock it again).
4.) The decline of quality control of Originals series, many of which are simply translated imports from Korea. Editors are clearly slim pickings and are being made to work on multiple series at one time, and the insane deadlines and requirements for the contracted Originals creators themselves (the ones whose series aren't completed yet) are causing creators to have to choose quantity over quality in a lot of cases.
None of these things are bound to 'destroy' Webtoons (at least not anytime soon) as people are speculating/worried about but they're all things that people are currently talking about, it's been a big point of contention these past few weeks. Some think this is WT's attempt at corporatizing the industry further, others think these are last-ditch-efforts at getting as much money as possible (in the worst case scenario that they're going bankrupt). Many of the concerns are genuine and valid but there's a line between genuine concern vs. getting carried away with doom theories. It's hard for many not to imagine the worst case scenarios though, when WT keeps a lot of their information close to their chest to the point of people having no idea which direction they're taking their business model and whether it's going to be for better or for worse. This is especially exacerbated by the fact that the webcomics industry has never been stable, Webtoons is one of the first and only platforms to actually push webtoon creators into the spotlight through multimedia deals and contracted jobs.
If you're just a regular creator who's looking to post their content somewhere, WT is still one of the biggest and most accessible places to do so and you're unlikely to be directly affected by the issues that many have brought up here. It's inclusive of all work (so long as it follows its content guidelines including its NSFW rules) and is pretty LGBTQ+ friendly, many of the Originals are LGBTQ+ focused. If you're looking for a 'better' platform, you'll have to be more specific with how you define 'better' because few other platforms have managed to come even close to challenging WT's influence. That being said, it's not the only one, so if you try it and decide you don't like it, there are other options - you can run your own personal website, or post to Tumblr, ComicFury, GlobalComix, or Tapas, to name a few.
Thank you. This means a lot to me.
I want to self publish my manga, and I find the overall work industry not my taste. I'm having trouble chossing which platform to post my manga on, considering I also want to make money with it. Webtoon seems like an okay choice, but I was also thinking about Amazon too, (and I was wondering it would show up for japan to see to). Can anyone recommend me the best platforms?
Globalcomix is where people went after Webtoon's new policies basically undercutted Canvas creators.
whether for audience size/ allowance for mature comics/ or lots of tags for easy website navigation.
I think while Webtoon is the biggest, I have heard a lot of horror stories about it.
If you evaluate the general convenience of publishing, etc., then probably Tapas: there are advanced statistics, readers can give you ink and all that. But, unfortunately, there is no opportunity for promotion for new authors - you are either promoted by admins (if they notice), or you yourself bring an audience from other places, or you are in limbo.
You have to go with what is best for your comic, you post everywhere and then focus your attention on where the largest audience is for you. Wt is the biggest and everyone keeps adding comics daily, they have the most readers but that’s because it’s like the fastfood chain of comics. If you stay canvas and aren’t worried about censorship then stay on wt and test out the others. I use my own website, GlobalComix, NamiComi, Comic Fury, inkverse and I’m looking into Comcraft ( they have print and merch options)
Webtoon has just been going downhill lately and I was wondering apps I can use that are like Webtoon but not as money hungry, and without the annoying lack of creativity with content. Thank you!
For a creator first platform that's not money hungry there's Namicomi
For other platform most similar to webtoon theres Tapas, they are a mix of commercial and creator comics but have a system for earning free credits to read the premium comics
GlobalComix is a great one 😎👍
NamiComi did more in 3 years than Webtoon ever did, so I strongly suggest checking it out. Hanza and Merryweather already moved there too.
If anyone is sick and tired of webtoon's action, there are other comic platforms that need some lovin’.
•Namicomi
•Lemoon
•Globalcomix
•Comcraft
•Inkverse
I could say that tapas is not as good as webtoon, but you can check it out.
Thank you
thank you!
There are a lot of websites and apps where to read and discover webtoons... But what's your favourite?
Why is it your favourite? Has it an interesting and unique feature? Because in that website are there your favourite artists? For the community? Because is it mobile friendly?
I wasn't even aware of other websites/apps for webtoons. I just use line webtoon
I use to really enjoy Line webtoons cause there wasn't any catch or coin crap but sadly not any more,I prefer to read comics on their own website if theu have one nowadays
I know of Tapas.io
Very similar to webtoons with less traffic but much better tools to engage with the community.
Why is it much better to engage with the community? Has it an interesting feature?
So this is the list of websites where I read manhwa & manhua on in case anyone on here is looking:
PlutoScans :
Best overall, has around 1,500-2,000 manhwa and manhua, has no ads, releases are sometimes a day slower than other apps but that's not problem for me, quality of images is decent or good at all manhwas.
Webtoon:
This one has an app, good quality on all chapters, has ads, and you can't read latest chapters unless you pay with coins.
Manga Dex:
Also solid one, has no ads, but i stopped reading on it because of two main reasons: a lot of times it has a lot of missing chapters/images hence no point reading on it if i have to switch sites all the time otherwise it would be really good.
Ultimamente tá fd, vou tentar a pluto para ver qual é
Thank you! I’ve never tried PlutoScans but will check it out. I read on the paid sites (TenManga for manga, mostly Tapas for manhwa) but they purge older manhwa & manga when the demand for them dies down so I also use Bato, which has old stuff you can’t find anywhere else.
Hi all,
I'm in the process of setting up social media and a Patreon for a comic series I'm working on. I know that I need a website to sort of centralise all of this. My immediate thought was WordPress, since I have more experience with that, but the cost is a bit high for a domain + packages.
I want the website to look professional, so customisation is important, but I'm also trying to find the most cost-effective website host. The most important feature I want to include is an integrated reader or PDF viewer.
Any recommendations?
If you're already familiar with WordPress, you're in a solid spot. There are plenty of hosting setups that let you install WordPress without locking you into expensive plans, and you still get full control over how your site looks and works. You can usually find a reader plugin or PDF embed that does the job, especially if you're self-hosting.
Just be sure to pick something that gives you access to your files and allows room to grow. So you can expand later with a store, gallery, or integrate with Patreon deeper. Simple beginnings are smart, but having flexibility early on makes things easier down the road.
There's a wordpress plugin specifically for webcomics. My suggestion is to focus primarily on your own website and utilize sites like Patreon to service the site.
If you're on Substack, follow Seth Werkheiser. He's great on marketing & social media.
So I’m getting back into manhwa and was wondering what platforms are good for reading manhwa. I use WEBTOON mainly, but I was wondering what else is available.
Comick.io
You can Install app from their website
Tapas, mangapin, abyss reader, manga boya, read manga app
If you are looking for websites there is a website called batoto. I usually read there.
Gay af
Comick that's best thing
Comick is probably the best. You can switch the translations (for ex: you can switch from Hivetoons scans to Asura Scans to Official depending on which ones you like bests), no pop up ads, and safe to use. Has a lot of stuff on there. A lot.
best webtoon platforms
