What Redditors are Saying

Best Wipes for Babies

TL;DR

  • Huggies Natural Care: Popular for thickness and gentleness.
  • Kirkland (Costco) Wipes: Affordable, gentle, and effective.
  • WaterWipes: Highly recommended but pricey.
  • Honest Wipes: Textured and effective for solid clean-ups.
  • Coterie Wipes: Premium option, praised for quality.

Huggies Natural Care

Huggies Natural Care wipes are frequently praised for being thick and gentle on babies' skin. They are a popular choice among parents who have found them effective in preventing rashes and irritation [1:2], [3:1], [5:1]. Many parents prefer Huggies over other brands due to their durability and the right level of moisture [3:6].

Kirkland (Costco) Wipes

Kirkland wipes from Costco are another favorite among parents. They are noted for being thick, fragrance-free, and effective at cleaning without causing irritation [1:3], [4:4]. Despite some reports of texture issues, they remain a reliable and cost-effective option for many families [3:2], [4:12].

WaterWipes

WaterWipes are often recommended for their simplicity and effectiveness, particularly for sensitive skin [1:8], [2:7]. However, they are considered more expensive compared to other options, which may be a consideration for budget-conscious parents [4:11].

Honest Wipes

Honest wipes are valued for their texture, making them particularly effective for cleaning up after solid foods [1:9]. While they are on the pricier side, many parents find them worth the investment, especially when bought in bulk during sales [4:3].

Coterie Wipes

Coterie wipes are described as the "Goldilocks" of wipes, offering a balance of thickness, wetness, and durability [4:1]. They are highly rated for their quality and customer service, although they come with a higher price tag [4:6], [4:7].

Other Considerations

For parents dealing with sensitive skin or allergies, unscented wipes or using cotton squares with water can be a good alternative [2:2], [5:4]. Additionally, some parents recommend trying different brands to see which works best for your baby's specific needs, as reactions can vary significantly between children [2:1].

Hello! I’m a parent to a 4-month-old girl and have been using various baby wipes to clean my little one. I typically use water and dry cotton but have also experimented with various disposable wipes like WaterWipes, Pampers Aqua, Blissmile, Honest, etc. I would love to hear your recommendations based on personal experience. Which baby wipes have you found to be the best for gentle and effective cleaning? Please leave your suggestions in the comments. Thanks so much! ❤️

My favorite are Huggies Natural Care Wipes! Never gave a rash or caused a bad reaction and they're really good at getting poo off.

Huggies have my vote too. I use pampers diapers and Huggies wipes

Yesss! In my experience, these are also the easiest to get out of the pack one handed, and I’ve tried SO many wipes! I like Millie Moon wipes a lot too because they’re really soft but they stick together so bad in the pack :(

Water wipes would be my first choice but they are a bit pricey. Even the hospital where I delivered uses water wipes. I've been getting the Amazon brand mama bear water wipes. I feel like they are just as good and a little cheaper.

Honest became my favorite once she started eating because they are textured. The poops get sticky with little pieces and the texture of the wipes have been perfect for getting it all.

I use disposable cotton squares cuz my baby has sensitive skin and they are the best! I wet them with warm water. My husband uses water wipes but I usually change her so she usually gets the cotton. Try it out. It’s especially good when healing a rash.

Cotton squares and water also feel much better to use. There is no extra smell added, no unnecessary chemicals, ... And.at least for me it's not even more work to use them. My midwives recommended this.

We usually use Huggies Natural Care. We haven't had any issues with skin irritation and they are thicker than some of the other wipes we've tried. We also haven't had any issues with them being too wet - we've tried samples of water wipes and another "just water" brand that I can't remember and the wipes were literally dripping. (This coul totally have just been a manufacturing error in the sample, but it turned us off from trying them again.)

Which wipes are we using?

Title. Looking for the Goldilocks of wipes— not too wet, not too dry. Not too thin, not too thick. Fragrance free, Doesn’t cause irritation, reasonable cost, etc.

I’ve tried the Parents Choice brand from Walmart which are thin and dry, with a bonus of diaper rash.

The Target brand fragrance free wipes seem fine, but are soaking wet, and take forever to dry on the skin before re-diapering.

Water wipes seem to be the market leader, but WOW the price seems like a lot.

Which wipes have been the GOAT for you?

Alright, you’re probably gonna hate this suggestion but after trying everything out there, we found the Coterie wipes to be the best (minus price). Not too thick/thin/wet and the wipes are big and sturdy, so they last longer too because you’re using less wipes each time. Water wipes are great as well, but Coterie is best (we use Coterie diapers too an my baby’s skin never looked better!).

I personally hate pampers. Too thin and too wet. They just slide all over when you try to wipe baby. After the 4th finger dip in shit I switched to Huggies. If you’re feeling pricey Honest has GREAT wipes. Super thick like cloth and not overly wet but the perfect amount of wet. (we were gifted some for baby shower) Targets brand of lavender scented wipes are GREAT too. Total dupe of Honest. But just the lavender for some reason lol. I tried all of the other ones that’s ere the same exact ones just with different scents and they were NOT the same consistency as the lavender.

I hate Huggies natural care wipes, looking for recommendations [BC]

Posted by WhiskeyRose01 · in r/BabyBumpsCanada · 5 months ago

I know so many people who find the Huggies natural care wipes to be THE BEST but I find them dry, flimsy, and they seem to irritate my daughters skin.

if you've also had issues with Huggies natural care, what did you switch to? Or even if you just use another brand, what is it?

Should add I've had luck with Sudocrem's wipes, but the local drug store doesn't always have them in stock. Not opposed to ordering online but wanted to get some recommendations/opinions on other possible options.

Thanks!

I had issues with these wipes as well, they're weirdly dry and wet at the same time??? It felt really scratchy against my son's skin.

Ended up switching to Kirkland wipes which are so much better. Material is nice and soft and doesn't irritate my son's skin.

Yes!! I hold the wipe in my hand and it feels wet but when I actually use it it's like I'm wiping with a dry cloth! And the texture on them makes them feel scratchy you are right.

I've got a Costco membership so I might spring for the box ol' box of Kirkland wipes!

We are big fans of the Coterie wipes. Expensive, but the BEST. We have those + honest wipes. Once kiddo got bigger and started on solids, we started using liniment cream (we use the Mustela brand as it's my favorite formulation) and it helps cut down on any rubbing.

Second this. Coterie are the best ones I’ve tried they’re just so damn expensive! Honest wipes were a close second. But we’ve been primarily using Kirkland for cost and its large like coterie. I feel like coterie is the most moist out of the pack, sheets are large and sturdy.

Seconding Hello Bello!!!

Also 99% water, but way easier to get out of the package, textured, and inexpensive. Switched to these from water wipes when I got tired of paying so much to keep my baby's super sensitive butt happy.

As a side note, for baby #2 we use Huggies wipes because she's not quite as sensitive, and they've been perfect. And easy to order in bulk for target pick ups. 🙃 Not a fan of Huggies diapers though... And Pampers wipes are the worst, so chemically and slimy.

Wipe recommendations that clean efficiently and aren’t dry?

Posted by laurenellemartin · in r/BeyondTheBumpUK · 5 months ago

We’ve tried multiple brands now and haven’t found a brand that cleans well.

Most wipes nowadays seem to all be ‘99% water’ ones and I don’t know if that impacts the efficiency? The wipes feel a bit rough and dry out quickly, and no matter how much I wipe my girls bottom it still looks as though there’s a slight poop stain remnant on her skin.

I’m not comfortable leaving her like that so have a mini spray bottle of water and also mustela no rinse cleansing water in her changing table as backup but she’s beginning to get sore and I’d like to reduce how much cleaning and rubbing is happening!

Have tried:

Water wipes but they just pushed the poop around

Mamia sensitive wipes - my fave so far but not brilliant

Huggies pure - husbands fave so far but I feel as though you need to be quite heavy handed to clean the skin which doesn’t help when the skin is already sore

Pampers are the best ones I have used on my baby. I use the sensitive ones and they are the least dry, the texture of them is almost oily so they seem to be moisturising as well as really clean effectively compared to other wipes.

However they are expensive. The best budget ones I have found are Morrisons. I also like the lupilu Lidl brand, however the Morrisons ones come out of the packet easier, (as in you can just pull out one wipe at a time one handed, whereas every other brand the wipes all try to come out in clumps and you end up pulling out more wipes than you intended, which is really annoying).

Reusable wipes, such as cheeky wipes, have been a real game changer for us. A small investment to begin with but I find them so much better to use than any disposable baby wipes.

35 upvotes on reddit
Ana_Phases · 5 months ago

Reusables are the way forward. OP, they are thicker and “grabbier” any disposable wipe. I find disposable ones just spread, rather than remove the mess.

For full time use, get about 40. Now we’re won solid food, it makes clean up so much easier!

We have cheeky wipes, but you could easily DIY it.

I’m happy to post a guide if you’re interested.

Same! Such a good clean.

Can I ask how you’re wetting them? I think you can put them in a container with water and use from there but seems like you’d have to empty the whole lot at the end of the day to keep things fresh?

At the moment we’re keeping a flask of warm water and a bowl at the changing station. Then rinsing the wipes in the sink before the next wash.

1 upvotes on reddit

I second this one. I do a combo with reusable wipes and home and disposable on the go, but the reusable ones are head and shoulders above any disposable. Massive reduction in nappy rash too.

6 upvotes on reddit
pelpops · 5 months ago

Agreed.

I bought cheap terry wipes for my first then made flannel pyjama fabric (winceyette) wipes for my second. I just pour whatever’s left out of the kettle onto the wipes so they’re not cold. Even the biggest milk allergy blowout uses a maximum of three wipes and they’re only palm-sized. We were away recently and had a non-allergy eight water wipe poo. Not even a blowout. It felt like I should just have burnt my money.

I also made up a cocoa butter/coconut oil balm which I scoop out onto the last wipe to cleanse and moisturise.

They get to be super expensive compared to other brands and once you get towards the bottom of the pack they’re super wet and stick together. My husband wasn’t the biggest fan bc he felt like he had to use a lot of them

I’ve seen lots of people say that the water wipes tend to be super wet. I just added the pampers to my list, I’m planning now on getting several different ones and seeing what works for us. It seems that everyone likes something different so it would probably be best for me to try out as many as I can!

We always used the kirkand case from Costco. It was reasonably priced and we could have a pack in the diaper bag and both cars and the changing station and daycare, so it was cheaper, babies bum never has trouble with them.

This time likely using cloth wipes with water.

We use water wipes and are very satisfied with them. The only annoying thing: sometimes it’s difficult to only grab one out of the package. Before we change the diaper I already pull a few out in advance.

Yup! LOVE water wipes but definitely prep the wipes before diaper changes

I use the Huggies naturals and I really like them. My husband and son sneak them out of the baby's things too...lol!

Haha I love that! I’ll have to get a pack of the Huggies to try!

Yeah, it’s annoying. They changed something. The old water wipes were a bit easier to get out but now it’s a bit difficult.

I never found them strong smelling or harsh, and baby wasnt sensitive to them. I don't remember if they said fragrance free. I have a 4 yo, so things are fuzzy.

What baby wipe is the wipe king?

We have tried a few different brands and we end up returning to the WaterWipe for its superior wetness. They're not cheap. Does anyone have any recommendations for cheaper wipes with as good wetness?

A second vote for stocking up on waterwipes when on special! Amazon also do fairly good deals on them

The Lidl version are decent. My favourite is Fred & Flo from Tesco, 12 pack for €11

Same the ones from Tesco at 1 euro a pack. My smelly boys use them and they're ideal

I've not used these - will have to give them a whirl

This is the answer. We suffered through all the generic water wipes with our firstborn. 'Treated' ourselves to the Dunnes ones when our second was born and omg we just can't go back. We actually think its worth any extra cost because they are easier to pull out of the packet so you're wasting less, and because they are so good you end up using less anyway.

We used to use Aldi sensitive, they were always fine and you could stock up whenever there was a baby event in the middle aisle.

I know my Aldi has still some stock and it's 4 packs for 99c!

best wipes for babies

Key Considerations for Choosing Baby Wipes:

  1. Ingredients: Look for wipes that are free from harsh chemicals, fragrances, and alcohol. Opt for wipes with natural ingredients that are gentle on sensitive skin.

  2. Hypoallergenic: Choose hypoallergenic wipes to minimize the risk of allergic reactions, especially for babies with sensitive skin or eczema.

  3. Moisture Level: Wipes should be adequately moist but not overly wet. This ensures effective cleaning without causing irritation.

  4. Thickness and Texture: Thicker wipes tend to be more durable and effective at cleaning messes. A textured surface can help with tougher clean-ups.

  5. Packaging: Consider the ease of use of the packaging. A resealable pack helps keep wipes moist and makes them convenient for on-the-go use.

Recommendations:

  • WaterWipes: Made with 99.9% water and a drop of fruit extract, these wipes are often recommended for newborns and sensitive skin due to their gentle formula.

  • Pampers Aqua Pure Wipes: These wipes contain 99% water and are free from alcohol, parabens, and fragrances, making them a great choice for sensitive skin.

  • Huggies Natural Care Wipes: These wipes are hypoallergenic and made with 99% water, plus they have a soft texture that’s gentle on the skin.

  • Seventh Generation Free & Clear Wipes: These are made with plant-based ingredients and are free from synthetic fragrances and dyes, making them a safe option for babies.

Choosing the right wipes can help prevent diaper rash and keep your baby comfortable, so consider your baby's specific needs when making a selection.
