Epiphany by Jin
"Epiphany" is a standout track that promotes self-love and acceptance. The lyrics emphasize the importance of realizing one's worth and loving oneself before seeking validation from others. Jin's heartfelt delivery adds to the emotional impact of the song, making it a favorite for many listeners who are on a journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance [2:1],
[2:2].
Answer: Love Myself
This song is part of BTS's "Love Yourself" series and directly addresses the theme of self-love. The lyrics encourage listeners to embrace their flaws and love themselves unconditionally. It's a powerful anthem that has resonated with fans worldwide, providing comfort and motivation to those struggling with self-esteem issues [2:1],
[2:6].
Idol
"Idol" is a celebration of self-love and confidence. The song's upbeat tempo and empowering lyrics remind listeners to be proud of who they are and not let criticism affect their self-worth. It's a vibrant track that encourages embracing one's identity and being unapologetically oneself [2:1],
[2:2].
Awake by Jin
Jin's solo song "Awake" discusses self-acceptance and striving to do one's best despite limitations. The lyrics convey a message of perseverance and hope, encouraging listeners to stretch their hands out and continue running towards their goals. This song is particularly moving during live performances, where Jin's emotional delivery enhances its inspirational message [2:4].
Additional Songs Promoting Self-Love
Other songs that inspire self-love include "Promise" by Jimin, which is dedicated to himself and carries adorable, uplifting lyrics [2:1]. "Microkosmos" talks about the uniqueness and preciousness of every soul
[2:5]. "Zero O'Clock" and "So What" focus on not beating oneself up over past failures and beginning anew
[2:5]. These tracks contribute to BTS's overarching message of self-love and acceptance throughout their discography.
Here are some BTS lyrics for you to remember to love yourself and that you are loved in this world.
Hold on, there's a version of So Far Away with Jin and JK on Spotify?? Could you please share the link? š
Itās on their SoundCloud account. Itās very beautiful and the adlibs and piano and strings are gorgeous.
Thank you!!
This song is beautiful š„¹š« š it's always a cover of Suga's song right?
Girl Iām crying tysm for sharing these lyrics
š¤§š¤§ old songs has magic in them
I just listened to "epiphany" by Jin and holy, I think he's my favorite in the group already.
I've tried searching for other songs but they're mostly about falling in love with another person.
So my question is, are there any songs other than "epiphany" that promote self-love?
āEpiphanyā is SO special, and Jin is amazing. He is an absolute sweetheart.
Itās a completely different feel, but āIdolā is all about self-love. āAnswer: Love Myselfā and āIām Fineā as well. Iām sure there are many others Iām not thinking of, as I just woke up and need coffee in order to brain.
Itās totally not quite true that other songs are mostly about falling in love with another person! For a lot of BTS songs that arenāt about loving yourself, you can often substitute ARMY, fame, or passion for their craft into the lyrics. You have to read between the lines to get the full BTS lyricism experience.
For example, āOutro:Tearā, a very dark song thatās about relationship falling apart that could be interpreted as romantic, but Suga actually wrote this song for the members when they were considering disbanding in 2018! Suga talked about the songās meaning and how all the members cried after hearing it.
For MOTS7 alone, self-love and self-reflection songs are ~16/20 tracks. For those other 4, they are arguable just more nuanced: can be romantic or something else.
A self-love/anthem song from MOTS7 (2020) would be ON:
āCanāt hold me down cuz you know Iām a fighter, Bring the pain on.ā
BTS does have ~200+ songs in the entire discography (by comparison, Beatles has ~200 as well), hope you enjoy your journey!
This. When I first became ARMY I also somehow managed to avoid listening to every song about love and thought they were so cool for not singing love songs .
I'm surprised no one has commented this yet! But Jin's first solo song "Awake" talks about self acceptance as well! It's about knowing your limitations but striving to do your best in your own capacity. Jin's live stage during Wings Tour for this song is absolutely phenomenal and always makes me tear up
Here's a trans of the chorus:
Maybe I, I can never fly I canāt fly like the flower petals over there Or as though I have wings Maybe I, I canāt touch the sky Still, I want to stretch my hand out I want to run, just a bit more
I wasnāt sure if I should because although I loveeeeee it, I just get so so upset after it Itās really heavy and a lot to take in but yeah since OP liked Jinās singing, awake is a good option! MP
Lol it is! The violin accompaniment always gets me. Although I'm a bit weird cos the more a song moves me to the point of tears, the more I fall in love with it
Just when I thought I couldnāt stan Kim Seokjin any harder than I already have, Iām once again proven wrong.
Thank you!
when i started stanning, i kept (keep) on going back to that performance, itās stunning and the string instruments and vocals just make it the perfect stage
To add some songs not mentioned so far : Microkosmos - it talks of how every soul in the world is unique and precious. Anpanman - about how a weak hero or someone with flaws can still be a hero. Zero O' Clock and So What - about not beating yourself up for past failures, and to worry less and begin again. Paradise - just go over the lyrics of this when you're overwhelmed with life or having goals, and it's like a warm hug.
Oh, there are many I think.
Answer: Love Myself: the lyrics are beautiful. It's the last song of the "love yourself" series and the theme of the song is just that. Beautiful.
Idol: this song is a celebration about self-love
Promise: Jimin made this song and dedicated it to himself. Again, the lyrics are adorable
Uhgood/everythingoes: not really about self-love, but these songs have helped me a lot with struggles and loving myself. I'll have to read the lyrics of this songs again and explain better, but they're really special for me.
I'm sure there are many other songs. Yoongi must have written many, but I have to check the lyrics to make sure about the themes (he has some powerful and personal lyrics, but I don't know if one of them fits this theme). Taehyung makes very comforting songs, I'll have to check the lyrics as well.
Thank you !! I just listened to answer: love myself and it truly is incredible
It makes me emotional all the time - especially if you watch it on yt with eng subs (live performance).
I'm talking about songs with uplifting lyrics, like in Kiss of Lifes Shhh -take off the clothes that don't fit, le Sserafims hot- you can hate me for me, that's your loss. I want a more ballad, up lifting pop kind of song, not something meant to be cool.
IVE - Rebel Heart
Blackpink - You Never Know and Love To Hate Me
Jennie - Solo
ATEEZ Turbulence fits this perfectly. The first two choruses are:
At the end of this road, where should we be?
What should we become, in what form?
I'm already overwhelmed
To be myself barely
Is anyone listening
Can someone just еmbrace me?
Wherе should we be, in what form
What should we become, and I?
And then the last chorus is:
At the end of this road
If we must become something in this form
I hope to be myself
I hope you feel the same way
Is anyone listening?
This song to be engraved in my heart
It's okay to be here, just as we are
Just like now tonight
The first time I heard this, be still my heart. They always give everything, it's surreal. But its a pop anthem, not a ballad. SHINee Ayo live. https://youtu.be/K8hrdvgseGM?si=uHSQMgTaelORgNUU
If you want ballad-like, there is their Japanese song Fire. They have always had fantastic songwriters and producers. https://youtu.be/Ya7kvtMKpcE?si=0meZGpvQjVadRlAD
Finally, for something recent, have a song from their album Hard. The Feeling. These guys know what it is to be determined to never give up. And they never will. https://youtu.be/xSwJGduvM_g?si=E3RPLB82lupA_6FT

As "genuine" and "sincere" as this sounds with AI, the way you're setting up other groups just to praise your fave doesnāt make them look good. lol
The way no group was mentioned in this post lol, I simply praised my favourite album. And I don't need AI to praise BTS, I can write about their music for hours.
All BTS hate in this world needs to disappear speak on it
No way you're setting up you're favorite group
I never did? If you are going to hate on BTS because of my previous post where I expressed my uncensored opinion, then so be it. I've always made BTS praise posts cuz they are my #1
crapping on every 3rd gen group under the sun for no reason, angering all their fandoms, then finishing it with a post on bts? you damn well know what you did.
āItās rare to see that level of detail and planning in a pop album..ā OP do you even listen to music?
I don't wanna hear about music creativity from Skz fan of all people. Go back to your daddy Bang Chanš«¶
Yes yes, god forbid I actually listen to more than one group. The audacity of me.
for fuck's sake, stop setting us up. who needs opps when you have fans like this?
canāt rule out the fact that they might be crazy too
you say you're a love yourself trilogy fan? name me your favourite lyrics. i'll wait.
North American ARMY here, and although I can't go to LA, I'm SO excited about the online concert. Since it's the first online concert at a "normal-ish" time for me, I'm making a whole evening of it! I don't want to overwhelm my non-ARMY friends with lyrics translations, but I think it's important they have some context for each song. So I'm trying to make a brief, one-sentence summary for each song that was on the PTD Seoul setlist (plus a few I'm assuming they'll add). But I need help! It's so hard to boil an entire song down to one sentence (or lyric!).
ON Fire Dope DNA Blue & Grey Black Swan Blood Sweat & Tears FAKE LOVE Life Goes On Boy With Luv Dynamite Butter Airplane pt.2 Silver Spoon Dis-ease Telepathy Stay So What I Need U Save ME IDOL Epilogue: Young Forever Spring Day Permission to Dance
Plus Louder Than Bombs and We Are Bulletproof: The Eternals.
Edited to Add: Shout-out to Doolset Lyrics (https://doolsetbangtan.wordpress.com/) for being my primary source of lyrics translations as a non-Korean speaking ARMY!
This is fun! I think it's a great idea to prime new listeners with some context, especially if they don't speak Korean.
I have some interpretations!
ON: pain is part of life, so I'll have the strength to live with the shadows and bleed with you.
Dope: this kind of mastery only comes with great sacrifice, and I revel in the fruits of my buried youth.
Black Swan: the artist dies twice, first when they stop loving the art that defines them. If I'm defined by what I do, what is that? Who am I?
FAKE LOVE: if love that requires me to mask my true self is not love, I don't know if I'm ready to face the truth. Does true love exist?
IDOL: others can define me however they want, they can put me on a pedestal or mock me - that doesn't change who I am, and I love myself.
i like how u summarise it from a 1st person POV. profound thoughts made simple too.
this is inspiring me to do a whole project on summarising all of BTS songs similarly and expressing it in an experiential way (not sure how yet) ~~
I think it's a great way to show the "message" in BTS' music because everyone talks about it but it might not be obvious to a casual (especially non-Korean speaking) listener!
Thinking about a way to present a project like this, I'm envisioning like... an image set of monochrome visuals with handwriting-style text over the top, using colours and imagery that align with the symbolism of each song/performance. I think pairing up or serialising songs that appear to be in conversation with each other would be cool, with like contrasting colours (to me I think the songs I chose above are all talking to each other).
I wonder if that's too ordinary? What if it was a spoken-word performance piece where each song has a different speaker who strikes a pose from their song's choreography after they say their line? I think that would be so bold but hilarious too. Making sincere art is hard lmaoo
If you do make something, I would love to see it on the subreddit!!šš
Oh this is cool! Iāll try a few.
ON - Bring the pain.
Fake Love - relationships fall apart when you try to be something else for someone else and lose yourself in the process.
Black Swan - itās about the fear of losing passion for making music.
DNA - we are destined to be together (so much so that itās like itās written in our DNA!)
Dis-ease - people these days have the ādiseaseā of being unable to rest because society makes it seem like we have to be useful all the time. (I hope I got that right?)
Spring Day - it may be winter now but spring always comes. (At its heart Spring Day is about missing someone youāve lost and not knowing how to let go, but having the hope that one day youāll see them again.)
IDOL - I do what I want and who cares what anyone else thinks.
Telepathy - Iāve seen them use the phrase āa song for youā a lot with this song and I think itās perfect tbh. Itās a song thatās a letter to Army about how even though weāre separated (because of the pandemic) we can still communicate with each other.
Blood Sweat & Tears - giving yourself over to temptation and willfully losing your innocence.
Some of these the title is actually a really good explanation of the theme (ie Permission To Dance, Life Goes On, Save Me, I Need U.)
I feel like Silver Spoon has a lot of background context that is hard to explain in a sentence but I guess a simple way to describe the song is that itās about how the older generation expects the younger generation to be just as successful, without acknowledging the fact that the challenges the younger generations face make it so much harder.
>ON - Bring the pain.
you forgot the "on" lol
>we are destined to be together
that's exactly what I wrote! lol
This is a fun postāI absolutely love explaining the ideas behind the songs or what I get from them. For black swan, I always think of it like, who am I if I lose/begin to hate/reject the crucial thing that makes me who I am? Lol kind of vague sorry.
Blue and grey is extremely close to my heart. Thereās a line in that song, āI just wanna be happier, am I being too greedy?ā And I think that just really sums up the idea of the song so well. Whenever Iām just tired or like feeling just done with things, this is definitely the song I cry to haha.
Overall I think a lot of their stuff is open to interpretation and the best way to explain it to others could just be the feelings it gives you, or explaining the emotions it evokes.
Boy with Luv - A poem to celebrate the little things (about you) that make me smile. I'm basing this off the lyrics and Korean title, which actually translates to "a poem for small things".
Fire - Your youth is yours. Live how you want and set everything ablaze
I really like the Korean title.
Yes, it's really nice. I think it suits the song better. But I can see why they went with boy with luv as this phrase is directly in the lyrics and a poem for little things is a mouthful.
I didn't even know there was a Korean title for Boy with Luv
I feel like I could get SO many people to listen to this if all I said was "Ok, boomer, in a song". š Thanks! š
For me, it's Magic Shop (BTS) for two reasons:
Exact song line "You'll give you the best of you" - I've taken this as my mantra for self kindness
And a bit more abstract, they sing a lot about a door opening - it always reminds me of the phrase "when one door closes, another one opens up".
What are your song mottos/mantras/lifelines?
Epiphany by BTS (Jin solo)
This is my motto to be kinder to myself
Same here, makes me tear up.
For me its the verse from Life goes on- BTS
Like an echo in the forest, haruga doraogetji amu ildo eopttan deushi ,Yeah life goes on....š
(English translation) Like an echo in the forest, the day will come back around as if nothing happened, yeah life goes on...
I have this written in my heart!!!š„ŗš«¶š¼
This lyric got me through the most intense grief event of my entire life two years ago. I held onto the promise that my life was going to come back around and I was going to be functional again. And I'm back now, i didnt believe i could be, but i am. And I just can't explain how much bts means to me.
Exactly my thoughts!!!!This song actually kept me sane when I was a mess .Till today this song makes me tear up everytime. Not only their music but their existance is a part of me now.
āYouāve shown me I have reasons I should love myselfā Answer: Love Myself, BTS
āItās okay to shed the tears, but donāt you tear yourselfā Moonchild, RM
āI'm breaking down I can see thereās light inside Dawn will come to the darkest of nights Overcome, even the future We won't stop from now on Decide for yourself what it means to be happy Every day, take a step to grow up But it's okay sometimes To show weakness It's okay to be you Don't lie to yourself any more Everything connects by sound, woah.
When I close my eyes In the darkness, your light woah Lights the way for me We can walk forward without fear, you & I woah.ā Lights, BTS
There were nights I didn't think I'd make it and days where getting out of bed felt like a battle (the line āthe silence was the loudest noiseā describes what I felt perfectly). I wondered if anyone truly saw me and if anyone would notice if I just disappeared. And then I found BTS.
BTS reminded me that my story doesnāt end with pain. That I am allowed to live and I deserve to live.
They taught me that loving myself wasnāt selfish and that being soft in a hard world is an act of courage. They didnāt āsave meā in some dramatic way, but they kept me going (which is harder).
Their honesty and courage in discussing their struggles with anxiety, depression, burnout, and identity gave voice to many of us. BTSā raw and introspective, and painfully human lyrics have become a source of comfort for millions of millions of people.
And thatās something Iāll never stop being grateful for.
Sorry for the neverending comment
Gosh, I love this so much and I completely am in utter shock of BTSās beautiful lyricismā¦gosh, what did we ever do to deserve them?
The chorus to So Far Away.
"Dream. May all of creation be with you until the end of your life. Dream. Wherever you go, may you be welcomed. Dream. May your trials end in full bloom Dream. Though your beginning may be humble, may the end be prosperous."
And the lines in Sea.
"Where there is hope, there is always hardship. We need to be in despair to find our hope."
"I see ocean, i see desert, i see the world. Everything is the same thing, but with a different name. Its life again."
Namjoon and Yoongi are philosophers who just happen to make music for a living.
I have a LOT. One of the main reasons I stan a group is because of their songs' lyrics. One of my fave lyrics I hold dearly in my heart: Yoongi's part in So Far Away.
"The beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will the future be"
So Far Away is my favorite song of all time.
What are some ways BTS has inspired or motivated you in your life? For example, have they inspired you to learn a new skill, to work on something youāve been putting off, be kinder to yourself, etc?
Pandemic was hard. Online classes has the tendency to get me lazy but BTS came and motivated me to do better so I can reward myself an album or merch. I even felt more confident about myself and slowly know my own style. I even got into photo editing of released photos of Weverse since their concepts are so creative.
