Magic Shop
"Magic Shop" is frequently mentioned as a song with deeply meaningful lyrics. It offers comfort and encouragement, with lines like "You'll give you the best of you," which many fans have adopted as a mantra for self-kindness [3:1]. The song's themes of opening doors and finding solace resonate strongly with listeners who are seeking hope and positivity in their lives

Lyrics such as "I just wanna be happier" and "The meaning of my tears that are reflected on the mirror / is the color that is hidden under my smile, blue & grey" capture the essence of longing for happiness amidst sadness [4:1]
[5:3]. These lines have been particularly impactful for listeners dealing with depression, providing a sense of understanding and empathy
[5:4].
Epiphany

[2:4].
These songs showcase BTS's ability to connect with their audience through thoughtful and introspective lyrics, addressing themes of self-discovery, mental health, and the human experience.
if u had to rank 5 of your top favorite songs from BTS. please state why as well :)
could be Bsides and Titles. (please state next to the name of it's a bside or title. just so i can look it up hahaha)
[this is coming from someone who doesn't listen to bts and is kinda interested lol]
<3
(p.s. i just listened to house of cards and i'm in awe lol)
First Love. My favourite song of all time actually. It's the most heart wrenching song (besides Kendrick Lamar's "u") that I've ever heard. It feels wrong to listen to a song so personal, it's almost a confession.
Outro: Tear. Peak rapline. Beat goes crazy, all their flows are insane, the lyrics are poetic, it's also sad as shit.
Epilogue: Young Forever. It's so melancholic, yet extremely hopeful. Also the chorus HITS you in a way that I haven't experienced with any other song.
Dionysus. If BTS were to have a magnum opus, this tune would be up there for me. It's a musical mess in perhaps the best way possible. Everything in this song shouldn't work, but it absolutely does. Rock and roll instrumental, addicting chorus, really interesting lyricism and very lively vocal performances from all the tannies.
Serendipity. Jimin just floats on this track, it's silky smooth from back to front and very dreamy production.
Even reading this thread makes me happy. BTS have a really, really amazing discography.
I'm going to break the rules and include some of their solo songs (so not just from their albums), because I think of their solo work as part of the broader BTS phenomenon. So my picks for my absolute favourites would be:
Snooze (B-side, D-Day): A solo song by Suga (under his Agust D alter ego), featuring legendary Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto and soon-to-be-legendary Korean-American singer Woosung of The Rose. Suga's advice to a young trainee (or himself?) amid truly beautiful production.
Outro: Tear (B-side, Love Yourself Tear): A subunit song by BTS's rappers and the best rapping, production and lyricism they've ever done. Feat. RM in a depressive spiral, Suga in angry recriminations and J-Hope in a full blown nervous breakdown.
Mikrokosmos (B-side, Map of the Soul: Persona): OT7 song in a really beautiful tribute to individuality and community.
Everythingoes (B-side, mono): It was really, really hard to pick a song from mono, RM's 2018 mixtape; if I could count the whole thing as one song it'd be no 1. But everythingoes is the album's euphoric climax.
Boy in Luv (Single, Skool Love Affair): Because they're not JUST deep, emotional and neurotic, here's a very young BTS having the time of their life asking a girl to notice them.
Love reading your descriptions, especially Outro: Tear
Because they're not JUST deep, emotional and neurotic, here's a very young BTS having the time of their life asking a girl to notice them.
accurate loooooool
outro tear is soooo good and mikrokosmos was my life for so long
You mean mono isn't one song divided into parts?! Joke aside, I always listen to mono from beginning to end; it's the only way to go.
Spring Day (title) - beautifully written sad lyrics, that’s what I like to see from BTS
Pied Piper (bside) - love the deep groove and the creative lyrics
Dis-ease (bside) - just a great groovy hip-hop track, but the bridge makes it transcendent
Butterfly Prologue Mix (bside) - gorgeously executed in composition, production, and vocals
Magic Shop (bside) - I tear up nearly every time I listen to this song. It just sounds, uh, magical. And I connect with the lyrics on a spiritual level.
Also, I second every other song people are listing. 5 is simply not enough
dis-ease is one of the more recent bts songs that i love (not saying they make bad music, i just prefer their old stuff!). listening to the album and hearing that song for the first time made me feel an ADRENALINE RUSHHHH!!
I've heard 1, 2, and 4, and my God, they r soooo good
They just sound so good and they’ve helped me through a tough time
Begin - probably my all-time most favorite song of any genre ever. it was a magical experience discovering it back in 2016
Tomorrow
Run
Autumn Leaves
Lost
Honorable mentions to Hiphop Phile, First Love, Not Today, Pied Piper, So What, Fake Love, 134340, I’m Fine, Black Swan, Louder than Bombs, We are Bulletproof: The Eternal, Outro: Tear, Whalien 52, House of Cards
…I know I cheated 🤪 but they have such a diverse discography, it’s hard to choose
"Wings" is incredible. When it dropped, they finally became an ult group. "Begin" is one of my favorites from the whole album.
Also just overall great list.
Quotable songs, something you were really glad to search the lyrics for. It doesn’t have to be deep, but something with really good lyrics, deep metaphors, stories..
Anything from groups to solo artists to bands. Thank you in advance!
BTS' Black Swan-
Fear of losing passion in music and fear of not being able to be on stage!!
BTS' Blue and grey-
Struggling with being happy and asking ourselves , is it ok to just ask for happiness??
BTS' Life goes on-
During hard times like COVID , things shouldn't stop and life should keep going on.

Onewe - reminiscence about all
"Even the painful moments are memories"
"Am I really the only one who's been wanting to hide out from the sun and run"
"I've been lonely since the moment of my existence; if you weren't around when I shed tears, you'd better not be around when I'm smiling"
"I can't find anyone moving leisurely in the crowd; chased by the hands of the clock; they move their footsteps like they're all enchanted"
"I wanna go away; leave behind the endless help; now I'm standing on the starting line; a little bit further than others; it doesn't matter if I start late"
"If I can't leave, I don't even look out the window"
And then there's looooots of stray kids, but I'm lazy to list it all xD Mostly Any, Question, Miroh, Hellevator, Silent Cry, Slump, Maze of memories, Alien (Han), ...
Jonghyun - End of a day
majority of bts’ songs have great lyrics but these are my personal faves that i’m really glad i looked up the lyrics for:
For me, it's Magic Shop (BTS) for two reasons:
Exact song line "You'll give you the best of you" - I've taken this as my mantra for self kindness
And a bit more abstract, they sing a lot about a door opening - it always reminds me of the phrase "when one door closes, another one opens up".
What are your song mottos/mantras/lifelines?
For me its the verse from Life goes on- BTS
Like an echo in the forest, haruga doraogetji amu ildo eopttan deushi ,Yeah life goes on....💗
(English translation) Like an echo in the forest, the day will come back around as if nothing happened, yeah life goes on...
I have this written in my heart!!!🥺🫶🏼
This lyric got me through the most intense grief event of my entire life two years ago. I held onto the promise that my life was going to come back around and I was going to be functional again. And I'm back now, i didnt believe i could be, but i am. And I just can't explain how much bts means to me.
Exactly my thoughts!!!!This song actually kept me sane when I was a mess .Till today this song makes me tear up everytime. Not only their music but their existance is a part of me now.
The chorus to So Far Away.
"Dream. May all of creation be with you until the end of your life. Dream. Wherever you go, may you be welcomed. Dream. May your trials end in full bloom Dream. Though your beginning may be humble, may the end be prosperous."
And the lines in Sea.
"Where there is hope, there is always hardship. We need to be in despair to find our hope."
"I see ocean, i see desert, i see the world. Everything is the same thing, but with a different name. Its life again."
Namjoon and Yoongi are philosophers who just happen to make music for a living.
I have a LOT. One of the main reasons I stan a group is because of their songs' lyrics. One of my fave lyrics I hold dearly in my heart: Yoongi's part in So Far Away.
"The beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will the future be"
So Far Away is my favorite song of all time.
“You’ve shown me I have reasons I should love myself” Answer: Love Myself, BTS
“It’s okay to shed the tears, but don’t you tear yourself” Moonchild, RM
“I'm breaking down I can see there’s light inside Dawn will come to the darkest of nights Overcome, even the future We won't stop from now on Decide for yourself what it means to be happy Every day, take a step to grow up But it's okay sometimes To show weakness It's okay to be you Don't lie to yourself any more Everything connects by sound, woah.
When I close my eyes In the darkness, your light woah Lights the way for me We can walk forward without fear, you & I woah.” Lights, BTS
There were nights I didn't think I'd make it and days where getting out of bed felt like a battle (the line “the silence was the loudest noise” describes what I felt perfectly). I wondered if anyone truly saw me and if anyone would notice if I just disappeared. And then I found BTS.
BTS reminded me that my story doesn’t end with pain. That I am allowed to live and I deserve to live.
They taught me that loving myself wasn’t selfish and that being soft in a hard world is an act of courage. They didn’t “save me” in some dramatic way, but they kept me going (which is harder).
Their honesty and courage in discussing their struggles with anxiety, depression, burnout, and identity gave voice to many of us. BTS’ raw and introspective, and painfully human lyrics have become a source of comfort for millions of millions of people.
And that’s something I’ll never stop being grateful for.
Sorry for the neverending comment
Gosh, I love this so much and I completely am in utter shock of BTS’s beautiful lyricism…gosh, what did we ever do to deserve them?

This is my motto to be kinder to myself
Same here, makes me tear up.

Mikrokosmos.... I just love that song😭
only one of this i can say that FANDOM'S ANTHEM IS WE ARE BULLETPROOF:THE ETERNAL
but other all category is impossible to choose one of many songs(i give up on other category)
FANDOM'S ANTHEM can also be YOUNG FOREVER!!
Me, writing Magic Shop in the box
Oh noooo this is going to require so much thought and brain power
There are a lot! Hard to pick just one, but I will nominate: Blue and Grey.
I know all of their songs carry so much meaning for ARMYs but there must be some certain songs. What are those?💜
“Epiphany” because I really needed to hear “I’m the one I should love” when I was struggling in quarantine.
“Idol” because my kiddo dance to it and spent a week where he hopped down the hallways like the choreo (it’s the only part he remembers lol).
“ON” because it’s my first BTS song!
Blue & Grey. I've dealt with mental health issues as long as I can remember and that song hits really close to home, especially Yoongi's verse with the "blue question mark" metaphor. That, and the line "I just wanna be happier"- it's such a simple lyric, but it's the one that hits me the hardest.
Exactly the same TT This song really hits. I love that "I just wanna be happier" part so much, goosebumps every time
I'll join with your love for the "I just wanna be happier". It reminds me of times I've been really fighting with depression and it's hard not to let myself go down of a rabbit hole of bad thoughts, but knowing if I let myself, it only gets worse but I'm just so tired of resisting. That's when I say something really similar (english is not my first language) to myself. It reminds me that I've been so down but I got out of it. And the way it's sung is just SO beautiful.
I couldn’t get “I just wanna be happier” out of my mind after hearing it the first time and made me crawl deeper inside the Bangtan rabbit hole
Something about this line. So simple yet so deep and difficult to achieve. 🙂
mikrokosmos - because i’ve been obsessed with the concept of universe/galaxies for the longest time- how our lives are intertwined and how every little thing- regardless of how small, plays an important role. my favorite series is how I met your mother and I would say that that this is the song equivalent of it. Also “shine, dream, smile” is so simple yet so meaningful??? idk how to explain it further :((( bottomline is I love mikrokosmos and i really want my first tattoo to be inspired by it
zero o clock- my life started to fall apart months before the pandemic. I thought I hit rock bottom until the pandemic happened- turns out that I could go further lol but i remember being in a really dark place and it’s hard to stay positive when everything that’s happening around you says otherwise. then I stumbled upon this song - searched for it’s meaning and started crying. Back then I was so desperate to cling on something good- some kind of hope. This is what I found. Whatever happens in a day, we all get a chance to have a fresh start by the end of it. Ultimately, we will be happy.
Whalien 52- it means a lot because apparently, I relate a lot to a whale :)
I may or may not be sketching a BTS mikrokosmos inspired tattoo right now. There’s a moon & stars inside the planet, and the words “shine dream smile” in the planets ring
would love to see it!!
Epiphany for me. I’m still learning I deserve to put myself first.
I don’t know if it counts since it’s a mixtape song, but The Last. I’ve always been a bit ashamed to talk about my mental health issues, always felt limited and lesser just for ever having had them. For someone like Yoongi, who has so much stage presence and performs so powerfully in front of tens of thousands of people in person and millions watching around the globe, to admit he once hid from people in the bathroom? Had his parents go with him to therapy? Hearing this from him made all the difference in the world. It’s such an important song to me, and it really helped me change the way I view myself, and how I see the problems I had in the past and the ones I still deal with today. It’s so important to see someone in his position speak with such raw and heartbreaking honesty about mental health.

I don’t what 10 means
It has been 9 years since BTS pre-release this single for their compilation album The Most Beautiful Moments in Life: Young Forever.
For me, this song is one of few songs that could immediately start the waterworks. There's such a raw blend of emotions and vulnerability to it that I couldn't possibly capture it into words...I'm no Namjoon.
The start is of the song is a whisper confession. Hesitant. Self assuring.
>Was there any mistake today
How was the facial expression of the audience
But I’m happy because I became who I am because I can make someone scream out loud
You can feel like they're listing things that they should be happy about. But there's something oddly disconcerting with that line of thought. Namjoon's delivery feels both listless yet contemplative. Then the anxiety manifests;
>Standing on the empty, but hot, stage,
I get scared of the idle emptiness
In my complicated mind, and on the verge of death in life,
I pretend to be more numb, for no reason It’s not even the first time, and I should be used to it by now,
The feeling is so bleak. "I should be used to it now" felt like he's conveying "shouldn't it stop hurting at some point?" But anxiety is a knife that keeps slicing at old hurts and create new wounds. Yoongi's delivery here felt a little short of breath. Like something is heavy sitting on his chest. Then comes the resolve:
>The huge applause can’t be mine forever
I talk to myself, shamelessly, “Raise your voice, to reach farther”
Even if there is no everlasting audience,
I will sing I wish to remain forever as today’s myself
I wish to remain forever as a boy
Ah
This is not hope. But resolve. Hoseok felt like he is winded from a performance but muster the strength to scream at the void. No matter how hot the stage is under scrutiny, not matter how it cools and echoes without audience they will stand there as they dream themselves to be;
>Forever we are young
In the fluttering flower petal rain,
I wander and run in this maze
>Forever we are young
Even if I fall, get wounded, and it aches,
I run endlessly to my dream
>Forever ever ever ever
(Dream, hope, forward, forward)
Just go forth. No matter the world falling short of expectations, no matter when it cuts deep, no matter if you perhaps give yourself a breather, go forth again and again. I particularly love the gang vocals at the end, it felt like we were in unison, praying the same mantra to ourselves.
This song has never failed to breathe in a new breeze to my sails when I falter and I can't thank BTS enough for its existence. Happy 9th Young Forever <3
(Dream, hope, forward, forward)

Great write-up, OP. I love the way you've separated the verses to convey the journey they go on as the song progresses 💜
BTS' "The most beautiful moment in life", understandably, gets a lot of us emotional even thinking back on it. What always gets me about this series is how young they still were as a group when they concluded the trilogy with this song in May 2016 - not even a full 3 years old. But they had worked so so hard that by this time, they were concluding their second trilogy as well as released a full studio album.
As someone who became a fan a few years after their debut, BTS' career is so striking to me in that it feels like they've lived several lifetimes during their 12 year career as a group. By 2016, they felt polished and established. Even they felt like they had sort of reached their peak. Their interviews from their HYYH Epilogue VCR kind of hint at that. RM's answer especially is so interesting:
>But what do you think is at the end of this beautiful moment?
>Hmm… Well… As I grow older I’ve always thought about ambivalence. Only humans could advance and grow to be lord of creation because only humans developed ambivalent emotions, so I’ve heard. So we think about love and breakup at the same time and think about success and fall, failure at the same time. We’re the only creatures like that. So now many people are paying attention to us and we feel we’re going up, but at the same time since I’m the team leader, I always wonder and worry about what will our downhill be like and what should we do at that moment. But if I spend time now in fears and worry, I don’t think I’ll ever get my Hwa Yang Yeon Hwa. So when that time comes I’d know this, ‘I lost the beauty I’ve found and lost many things and walking downhill.’ And that won’t be a downfall. Because I’ll find value in it and change it back to another uphill. So if I go down the way I came up, I think I can always go back up again. When I’m going down I should find my value and prove it to the world again.
I love the self-reflection and wisdom even as a relatively young group. I truly believe it's why they've made it this far, and "Young Forever" is the perfect encapsulation of that.
Namjoon, our great Philosopher. There's wisdom and self realisation in every morsel he shares with us. I don't think there will ever be a time where I do not want to read or hear what he has to say because every pearls of reflection he shares are little seedlings I hoard so jealously.
Excellent writer up op, I think all artists who perform for an audience can connect with this song,
Us non artists can connect with it in our own way of always dreaming and trying and not giving up. There will always be changes in life.
