TL;DR
Campaign Missions and Subclasses
One of the first steps for new players is to focus on completing the campaign missions from each DLC. This will help you unlock various subclasses, such as Stasis from Beyond Light, Strand from Lightfall, and Prismatic from The Final Shape [4:1]. Completing these campaigns will also provide a solid foundation for understanding the game's storyline and mechanics
[3:4].
Joining Clans and Communities
Many experienced players recommend joining a clan or community to learn the ropes of Destiny 2. Clans often have members who are willing to teach new players about raids, nightfalls, and other endgame activities [1:1]
[1:3]
[1:4]. Engaging with a community can make the game more enjoyable and less overwhelming, as experienced players can guide you through complex aspects of the game
[5:1].
Online Guides and Resources
There are several online resources available to help new players navigate Destiny 2. Websites like http://Blueberries.gg offer comprehensive beginner guides that cover leveling, gear, and gameplay strategies [5:2]. Additionally, YouTube has numerous video guides that can provide visual instructions and tips for specific quests or builds
[4:2]
[5:9]. While some players caution against relying too heavily on guides, they can be useful for getting started and understanding the basics
[5:6].
Focus on Fun and Exploration
Ultimately, it's important to enjoy the game and explore at your own pace. Many players suggest focusing on having fun rather than grinding excessively [2:1]. Taking time to explore different quests, vendors, and planets can lead to a more fulfilling experience
[3:3]. As the game evolves with new expansions like Edge of Fate, staying flexible and open to changes in gameplay systems will enhance your overall experience
[5:7].
Hey Everyone! M/EST
I'm new to Destiny 2 and just ran through the four DLC's (Forsaken, Beyond Light, Witch Queen, Lightfall) I'm now getting towards the end of The Final Shape. I don't know much about the end game of Destiny 2 as I've never done a raid or a nightfall dungeon. Just curious if there's anyone 18+ that could show me around or maybe take me on some runs so I can learn! Only thing I'm doing right now is the Nether quest in The Last CIty and that's been hella fun!
Anyways, thanks for reading, hope to hear from you!
Send me a DM and I’ll send you a clan invite and discord link and we can get you through some endgame things if you like!
Hello I’m on the EST! Hit me up, my clans always running raids and we’re all more than happy to teach, my discords junaper_jazz if you wanna add me
Hey there, I run a community teaching server with folks from all over the world that can help you out! We would love to have you (:
we have a clan with some newer players along with some absolute gamers. We got a healthy mix of all kinds of guardians. Feel free to check us out!https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyClanFinder/s/yeiWb7C38j
Hey everyone first off I’ve posted a few things here over the last couple days I’m just brand new and trying to get the best understanding and best route to take possible!
So my question this time what should I spend my time doing to get my self the best jump at final shape and also to best round out my account with such a small amount of time!
I’m brand new 2 weeks in I got the 1810 gear on my 3 characters but have only played my warlock! I did light fall campaign and that is it I’ve also purchased all the DLC so I’m wondering what should I do to best prep myself! Should I do all the campaigns and quest on all three of my characters first? Should I be grinding the season stuff like the coil and wishing the best quest and rivens wishes? Should I be grinding onslaught for the new weapons? Should I be grinding the weekly dungeon and raids for gear? Should I just focus on farming guns? I’m just looking for a path forward what I should focus on first or in order to best help my account and get ready for final shape as best I can I know I’m late to the party. Also I really only play Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights for about 4 hours a night
Thank you in advance for all your help and advice I really appreciate it
If you are new to the game, you should just be having fun, complete the story and take things at your own pace. You really don't need to grind anything to prepare unless you plan on doing the day 1 raid, in which case I would suggest in getting good rolls on most the BRAVE weapons in onslaught.
Just because you see other people 'grinding' to prepare doesn't mean you have to do the same, just being 1810 power is more than enough to head into the final shape story without issues
So I played since the beta and stopped after the first dlc (don’t even remember what it was called) came back for about a month when witch queen came out and two days ago bought all the dlc and I am working through it now. I’m completely lost with all the new stuff that’s been added, what should I be doing after I finish all these missions? Should I grind for exotics or the shaped weapons? What activities should I be doing?
Yes just do missions until you can’t anymore I returned a while back after not playing for 2 Years and it took me a while to get back into the swing of things.
I literally uninstalled the game because I felt overwhelmed but returned and literally have did everything in the game and more. All I did was collect every quest and just started knocking them out enjoying the game and slowly working through it. Just take your time and read quests and steps
Focus on Campaign missions and then whatever other missions pop up. Visit every vender on each planet and pick up quests. Definitely start on Cosmodrome and pick up quests from there and go through them.
Basically if a vendor has a Quest pick it up and do it the best you can. Eventually everything will click and when you get done you can start worrying about builds and endgame stuff and getting exotics
That’s definitely my plan. I want to get all these new subclasses and whatever easy exotics they will give me!
If you bought all DLC when I returned I went this route
Beyond Light and all side content and quests
Witch Queen and all side content and quests
Lightfall and all side content and quests
Final Shape for last
It really doesn’t matter which order but I think this order is best for new players it worked for me.
As mentioned by others, focus on the campaign quests first. What I have been doing is using the triumphs for the expansions as a guide and aiming to get them all completed in between doing the current episodes missions which will be going away after Heresy ends.
Thanks using the triumphs is very helpful didn’t think of that
I'd take advantage of the ongoing Bento event since it's all easy world-based stuff, and it'll be gone in 4 days
Then like others say, hit a campaign
What up homie, I get how confusing this game can be, Bungie should make the new player experience make more sense, but they rely on new players learning the ropes from more experienced players. If you need a hand I am in a clan of pretty chill people who would be happy to give you some guidance. Pm me if you're interested.
Hi guys, I have played D2 quite a lot, but did not understand anything in the game. Got D2 legacy collection with all DLCs + The Final Shape on PS Plus just now and planning to start playing it now. I find the game pretty overwhelming and complicated to understand, which is why I want to know if there are any beginner-friendly guide(s) on what to exactly do when you jump in. For eg - what DLCs to play and in what order and much more.
Would love some help, thanks!
So, I think the order of the dlcs goes like this; shadowkeep, beyond light, witch queen, lightfall, final shape.
Beyond light will grant you the stasis subclass, Lightfall will give you the strand subclass. Witch queen will teach you about hive with ghosts, final shape will grant you access to the prismatic subclass.
I would work on doing all the campaigns. If you don't really care about order story wise, do the ones that give you access to other subclasses.
While doing that, upgrade your guardian rank to 6 if you can, and try to unlock as much exotic armor and guns as you can.
A chest that will give you an instant bump to 2020 light level is in eternity, once you click the destination, travel to rite of the nine. Once there, head straight until you see the vendor. The chest to loot is directly to the left of the vendor. I would do this first before ANYTHING.
Thank you for your response. One thing you should know: I am pretty noob at the game! I don't know almost anything you are talking about. Whatever I played: I forgot about it cause I kept dropping in and out of the game.
Lemme know if you know any good and easy to understand YT guide videos, thanks a lot!
Basically do beyond light, light fall, and final shape to unlock sub classes and witch queen for a W campaign. Final shape is probably the best of the 4 in terms of loot and subclass. As for guides check out https://youtu.be/ADFJul3WnqU?si=QNG6C1K5l9r1mIv6
Honestly, this game is a nightmare to figure out as basically a brand new player. The combat is super fun, but the endless sifting through various menus to try and figure out what I'm doing and things not being clear is getting quite frustrating. Is there like a new player guide for 2025 for someone like me who hasn't been following along as they keep releasing content for this game?
This is what I normally recommend
https://www.blueberries.gg/leveling/destiny-2-beginners-guide/
There are probably a SHIT ton of guides on YouTube. I do know that with the Edge of Fate coming in about a month, a new menu called the “Portal” is being introduced to make finding things a LOT easier for new and returning players.
I know everyone is sipping from the Bungie ladle on this, but maybe wait to see it in action before assuming it will help.
This has to be the 5th (more?) time they've tried to make the new player experience better, and the previous efforts have gone how well, exactly?
And pushing people to YouTube guides is wild.
YouTube guides can be helpful. At least to get a base or idea of where to start. I would never recommend guides past that except for very specific builds. I encourage self exploration and figuring things out yourself 99% of the time. The portal however, I think will be hit or miss. It looks like it could be very helpful to some and confusing for others, but at the very least it’ll be less confusing than sifting through every planet in the destination menu
> I know everyone is sipping from the Bungie ladle on this, but maybe wait to see it in action before assuming it will help.
I don't know what you're beenreading, but every single comment I've seen about the new portal menu has said it looks like a jumbled mess.
I completely agree that the new plaher experience is god awful, but with that said if you're experienced enough to find this subreddit and make a post, you're smart enough to know how to Google what you're stuck onm
Yeah that's what I've been doing, but there are some things that still don't make any sense. Or in some cases, the answer was buried in like 4th or 5th nested comment way down inside a reddit post. It just feels like they could have consolidated a lot of things inside the menu system way better. Why when I got to quest details, it says the quest is not available and the launch button is greyed out. But then if I go to the right location in the Destinations tab, I can access the mission from there? It's like the game just got way too big and no one at Bungie bothered to clean up the convoluted menu systems.
The absolute best piece of advice I can give you is find a friend to help. Whether you ask people on the subreddit, or a discord, etc.
Someone said "the portal will make it streamlined when edge of fate comes out", let me just be the first to tell you it'll still be confusing, if not moreso.
So, Destiny 2 is a free game in the first place, so when you picked it up for free on PS Plus do you mean you got an expansion, or..?
If you just got Destiny 2 for the first first time, definitely go through the "new light" campaign introduction in the cosmodrome, but usually it's relatively tough jumping in mid-expansion year because there really isn't any centralized goal people are on, so I would say if you have any of the expansions, check out the campaigns, final shape especially is a good way to dive in and be forced to learn about buildcrafting pretty fast.
I can't speak for OP, but PS+ recently added the Final Shape expansion as a monthly game for June and added the Legacy Collection in the Extra Tier game library. So I assume the whole game is available for them.
Don't want to discourage too much, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend getting too invested in learning the systems right now. LOTS of stuff is changing very dramatically in the Edge of Fate expansion and game update alongside it, which will be happening July 15.
No worries, it’s so much to take in when you get started.
Hey all - I’ve just started my journey on Destiny yesterday. Managed to pick up the DLC’s on the steam sale. I was just curious if there were any clans or helpful suggestions that I should follow? Currently doing the final shape, but I seem to be getting destroyed by most things lol. Not sure I understand what guns are viable either.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Two good guns that you can get through random exotic engram drops that are worth looking out for is Graviton Lance and Sunshot. Shouldn't take you too long to get at least one of them.
As a hunter one of the quests gave me sunshot - so thats a gun worth infusing levels into? Will for sure give that a try!
It's great for ad clear and has decent single target damage too. Bungie gave a 75% damage increase for hand cannons against majors (yellow bars) a few seasons ago and exotic primaries also benefit from a 30% damage increase against minor enemies (red bars) compared to legendary primaries.
Alo DM me please for a clan invite :)
My clan does a bunch of stuff and we’re always happy to help with new stuff, droppindeezcabals, don’t ask, I didn’t name it
I started playing ~8 months ago and still found some of the Final Shape content a bit difficult.
First tip, get your Resistance stat up to 100. You can equip mods onto your Ghost that will focus engrams with a bias towards Resistance. Also increasing to Guardian Rank 6 unlocks armor mods so you can add a +10 Resistance on top of a piece of armors base stats. You can view your Guardian Rank in the "Journey" tab and click the View Progress button there to see the specific requirements for each rank. With the annual pass, you can also farm higher stat armor from the Echoes episode by focusing engrams with Failsafe in HELM.
I'm not an expert on the "best" weapons so take this with a grain of salt, but I find it easier to have a weapon that can wipe out the low level baddies in groups and then another than can hit super hard and fast to knock down the tougher enemies and bosses. For the former, Incandescent, Destabilizing Rounds, Jolting Feedback, Hatchling are some of the possible weapon traits that effectively mean "kill a baddie with this and it will spread damage to other near by baddies, killing them outright or making them easier to kill" and by keeping that damage chain going by killing the near by ones splashes more damage and so on. Sunshot, Graviton Lance, and Trinity Ghoul are some of the easier to acquire and use ones IMO. Graviton Lance can drop nearly anywhere, which the other two drop from ritual activities, the circles at the top of the Director, Vanguard Ops, Crucible, etc. You can also start with a Sunshot if you select Solar as your initial subclass.
I'm still figuring out the other category. I found Shotguns and Grenade Launchers easier to use because I don't have to be as accurate or precise as with a sniper rifle like Izanagi's Burden. If you like Sunshot or hand cannons, Eriana's Vow is pretty great. And this episode, Bungie buffed Lord of Wolves. Both of those can be pulled from the Monument to Lost Lights kiosk in the Tower.
So I put in approx 3k+ hours into destiny 2, from its destiny 1 beta release through the completion of the light/dark saga a year ago. Haven't touched it since because I've got 2 little kiddos and keeping up with all the content became too overwhelming and I'm a completionist lol. I keep hearing about how amazing warframe is and I tried it a little bit but there's so much to it and it feels overwhelming.
I know there's a ton of content and just need to take it slow but it's been a while since I played and need some help sorting through the content to figure out a route for myself to start something new
So, probably too general, but how does this game all work? Anyone willing to hop online with me and walk me through some things? I'm on ps5
I know there's a clan system in the game but not sure how to go about that
Any help would be greatly appreciated:)
Newbie advice for fellow newbie. (300+ hours, most of star chart unlocked, MR 11, just finished The New War, about 10 Warframes unlocked.)
Focus on progressing through star chart and unlocking all the planets, etc. Do the main mission quests as they become available, but don’t rush into The New War without first developing your Railjack with crew members and various upgrades. Also take time to farm up and build your Voidrig Necramech before you progress much further past The New War.
Take it slow and enjoy the game. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Some frames are tactically helpful: Ivara for invisbility for Spy missions and Rescue missions. Titania for cheesing quite a few really challenging Mastery Rankup tests. Mag for cheesing EVERY Junction boss. Everything else is up to you and your playstyle presences. Enjoy!
The main thing you should focus on right now is just progressing through the star chart. Do the regular missions, unlock junctions, stuff like that. You can usually do quests as they unlock. Sometimes you'll have to farm missions for crafting materials. Keep an eye out (or check the wiki) for missions that drop endo so you can upgrade your mods. Having an optimized build isn't super important that early on so you kinda just slap whatever you have on and you'll probably be okay
The new player experience is honestly kind of abysmal so you should never feel bad about asking for help. Personally I think you should do some of the earlier missions solo, otherwise sometimes you'll get high level players blasting through the level without letting you learn the feel of the game.
I'm at work right now but I'll try to dm you later to help out
Hey Guardians,
I finished The Final Shape right when it was released but haven’t played any of the episodes that came afterward. With The Edge of Fate DLC on the horizon, I’m looking to jump back in — but I’m not sure what I should focus on grinding or collecting to get ready.
Are there weapons, armor, currencies, or other must-have items I should prioritize before the expansion drops? Any activities I should catch up on to avoid missing out?
I’m good on the lore — I can always watch it from our amazing Destiny 2 creators — but I don’t want to miss gameplay-related stuff that could go away or be really useful in The Edge of Fate.
If there’s nothing major or important to grab, I don’t mind skipping and just jumping straight into the new content.
Thanks for any advice you can share.
Eyes up, Guardians.
My advice would be to farm a mobility / intellect armour set. Mobility is turning into the weapons stat, intellect the super. With EoF, that combination is not going to be available to begin with, and the armour we get now should be similar to tier 3, just without a set bonus. This will probably be the best way to get a boss damage setup for the new content.
I really hope they add that combination (or any missing combination)

Hello Guardians. Like you I was new not so long ago and I had no idea where to start, what to do or where to go. Everything was pretty overwhelming. I wrote a simple guide to help you get acclimated to the world of Destiny 2. I hope it helps you.
‐-------------------------------------------------------------------
I started at the beginning of beyond light.
The first thing you are going to want to do is complete the "a guardian rises" storyline (tutorial) it will take you through the cosmodrome and the first few hours will familiarize you with the game.
Once you get to the tower I would recommend picking up the gun bounties from banshee 44 since they can be done anywhere. (Also the dawning spirit ones if you want to grind out a few rewards before it ends on december 5th)
What I did was grind public events for a few hours from here as it was a really good way to get a feel of the game, interact with a bunch of guardians in multiplayer play, and get a ton of gear. I was soft cap in just a few hours of doing public events.
You can start on the cosmodrome if you like but my personal recommendation is go to the EDZ. This place has (in my opinion) the best cycle of public events with fast travel spots nearby. I am almost always in an active public event with very little downtime here. This will help you get your power level up quickly and expose you to a lot of different weapons. Hell you might even get a world drop exotic.
Once your bounties are complete you can turn them in for season pass experience. Let me know if you happen to purchase the season pass as there is more info to share here.
Once you have reached around 1100 gear score you can start doing strikes. Strikes are your first taste of more challenging combat and there are mechanics involved in them.
Strikes are missions 10-15 minutes in length with a fireteam of 3. Dont be afraid to dive into them as your team will usually get through it with minimal effort. If you do decide to hop into strikes here - pick up the strike bounties from Zavala. You can pick an individual strike you enjoy from any planet if you find one you like but it is recommended to go through the vanguard playlist on the destination screen as you can get "pinnacle gear" if you complete three strikes a week.
Pinnacle gear is gear+1 of your current level so it is very useful after 1200 power level to help keep you getting better gear.
Important note: running the strikes to get the 3 strike completion for the week requires you to use the corresponding power (arc, solar, void) - you can tell which one the current week is by clicking on the vanguard strike playlist and right before you click launch game - if you look at the left side of your screen you will see three circles with symbols in them. It will say in one of them: arc singe solar singe or void singe. Use the matching subclass and you will get progress towards the pinnacle gear.
Want more pinnacle gear? Go play 3 matches of crucible or gambit. Dont forget to collect some bounties first!
You dont need to win you just need to complete 3 matches, and the pinnacle gear is yours.
Crucible, you are in for a bad time for a while. The people who play are really good. I suggest rumble as its free for all. You shoot who you see. You might get a frag or two, awesome. They are short. (About 5 mins)
Gambit is a fantastic game mode. I highly recommend before going into a match watch a few guides on youtube to get a general idea of your purpose before going in. Your teammates will thank you. It wont take long before you start topping the leaderboards here to be honest. It gets a lot easier and your understanding will develop quickly.
Want even more gear? If you complete 8 bounties for either Zavala Shaxx or The Drifter (strikes, crucible, gambit) each week - you will get one piece of powerful gear (you will need to collect it from them)
And thats about it to start. The rest is up to you. Completing the campaigns is a good idea. There is gear to be collected along the way but public events are quicker. The real benefit is exotic questlines after beating each campaign and of course the new subclass stasis.
So lets recap;
Tutorial
Public events
Strikes
Powerful/pinnacle gear
Crucible and gambit
Story/Campaign
Let me know if you have any questions as I was pretty lost when I first got started but am in a pretty good spot now.
Oh a +1
Take a look at the mods that banshee 44 is selling every day. Some of them are very useful and you will want to start collecting them sooner rather than later as they will be detrimental to your end game activities.
And a +2
Learn how to trigger heroic public events. Most of the time other guardians would like you to do this as there is a small chance at better drops if you do. You can find more info on the web regarding these.
A +3
Check out what xur is selling every friday (exotic gear vendor)
This is a great way to build up your exotic collection and pick up an exotic cipher quest. You will need to spend legendary shards to purchase one of the three items he is selling, or am exotic engram. You get legendary shards by dismantling legendary weapons.
Cheers.
> Pinnacle gear is gear+1 of your current level so it is very useful after 1200 power level to help keep you getting better gear.
Except pinnacle isn't +1. Here's the actual breakdown of all Powerful and Pinnacle drops in game currently.
You are absolutely correct. And you have provided a great source of information. My post is not allowed to contain links.
However for a beginners intents and purposes its all they would need to know about getting higher level gear.
I dont believe I need to expand on the intricacies to someone who doesnt know where to start in Destiny 2.
If you can think of a better way to word it for someone new, by all means let me know.
Apologies if that came off shitty, not intended to.
We need all level player guides. The game doesn't explain much of anything.
I've been playing since Beta on Destiny 1, and this is a nice, short but sweet, helpful guide for new players. Well done.
Is this still the same way to do it?
Idk. Jumping back after a year off, I know some things have been removed, so probably not. A lot of it probably is still relevant, better than diving in blind at least.
That is what I was aiming for. It helps that I am still new myself and have just been through it.
Really appreciate the kind words.
nah thats too long to read just shorten it to : be prepare to piss blood!!
Lol especially in crucible.
I’ve been playing destiny as a whole since taken king, but I stopped after shadow keep. Coming back to the game tho after final shape came out and I’m enjoying again, but what stuff should I prioritize doing? I don’t have like hours at a time to sit down and grind but I do get on for 1-3hours a day
Microcosm should be a priority, it will make things a lot easier moving forward and it’s a short quest (although an extra difficult set of campaign missions that you’ll need two others for)
If you're interested in getting Khvostov, I would start on that immediately. Took my brother and I like a week straight of playing a couple hours after work to get everything done. Its a LOT
Campaign will be a good start. There's hundreds of hours for you to catch up on. Final Shape alone will keep you very busy.
