Introduction to Shadow of the Erdtree
The "Shadow of the Erdtree" is an expansion for Elden Ring, offering new content and challenges for players who have enjoyed the base game. It combines the original game with additional features and areas to explore [3:1]. This expansion is available as a package deal, which may include both the base game and the expansion at a bundled price
[3:1].
Gameplay and Exploration
Elden Ring is known for its expansive open-world exploration, which continues in the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. Players can expect richly designed areas that tie back to the story and gameplay in rewarding ways [1:2]. The aesthetic appeal of Elden Ring is often compared favorably to other FromSoftware titles, with expressive environments despite being set in ruins
[1:3].
Combat and Mechanics
The combat system in Elden Ring is praised for feeling natural and rewarding, with many players finding it to be a highlight of the game [1:1]. The expansion likely maintains this focus on engaging combat mechanics, providing players with challenging bosses and enemies that require strategic thinking and skillful execution.
Price and Availability
The Shadow of the Erdtree expansion is priced around $40, though prices may vary depending on promotions or sales [3:2]. Some players have found deals on platforms like Amazon, where used copies might offer additional savings
[3:3]. It's important to ensure that any DLC codes are valid before purchasing, especially when buying from resale sources
[3:3].
Conclusion
For fans of Elden Ring, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion offers more of what makes the base game great—expansive exploration, challenging combat, and beautifully designed environments. Whether you're returning to the Lands Between or diving into the expansion for the first time, there's plenty to discover and enjoy.
Howdy! I don't really know where to post this, so sorry if this is the wrong community! Like I said, I am thinking about playing another Souls game, but don't know which to pick. I've probably put 300+ hours in Elden Ring, and have beat it multiple times. It was great. What Souls game should I play next (Demon Souls, DS1, DS2, DS3, Bloodborne, Sekiro)? I play on PS5, but have a Series X as well if some titles are only available there.
DS1 is the best experience the “classic” soulsborne games have to offer, and Dark Souls 3 will play the most similar to Elden Ring
In summary, not DS2 (but definitely play it at some point)
Thank you for your advice! I always hear DS2 is the black sheep of the series, so that makes sense. I think I'd prefer to stick with what I know, but at the same time hear Anor Londo is a super cool place. Any opinions as to the aesthetics of the world/areas? Elden Ring had (mostly) such expressive areas despite being in ruins, and I somewhat dislike when the world/areas are totally bland.
DS2 has a lot of themes and ideas that carried over into Elden Ring, so it's definitely worth playing. But I think it helps to have a strong grip of Souls fundamentals before you do because the jank gonna jank.
As for visuals, Sekiro is the only game that compares to ER in graphical fidelity, but they ALL have lush, richly designed areas that thoughtfully and thematically tie back to the story and gameplay in rewarding ways.
Definitely do not skip DS 2. It's amazing, and massive. A lot of its mechanics were used in ER, but not in DS 3
Aesthetically
Bloodborne
Elden Ring
Sekiro
Dark Souls 2
Demon Souls
Dark Souls 3
Dark Souls 1
And I say that as an enormous DS1 glazer
DS2 got a lot of hate back in the day but most people that pick it up now after playing DS1 come to find it’s pretty great.
Depends on what you liked. If exploration, ds1 if combat bloodborne
Loved the open world, and that's actually why I started Elden Ring in the first place as my first Souls (though I have enjoyed plenty of linear games), but the combat felt so natural and rewarding. The combat never felt unfair in Elden Ring (with the exception of one or 2 specific examples). Many of my favorite bosses I struggled with so much at the beginning, but upon replaying the game, they felt like a dance that I could walk in sync with, and they became among my favorite bosses. Still, I think exploration might be a bigger factor towards my enjoyment. Especially as NPC quest lines always are a great perk of exploration, and I don't want to miss out on character progression and world building.
Their two tightest combat experiences are definitely Sekiro and Bloodborne, with BB being the more linear experience of the two (not that there's not plenty to discover). Sekiro isn't open world, but it does FEEL more expansive. As far as pace of gameplay, it and DS3 are closest to Elden Ring. But I'd say those are the two that highlight exploration the least. DS3 is incredible but it's kind of on rails. And Sekiro follows a single named character, so it's naturally less about RPG-style progression than the rest.
I'd also mix in some of the tighter non-Fromsoft Soulslikes as well. Elden Ring was also my first and I also came to it from a love of open worlds, but walked away a massive fan of Soulslikes instead.
This was my order:
Elden Ring Bloodborne Dark Souls 3 Dark Souls 1 Lies of P Sekiro Dark Souls 2 Lords of the Fallen First Berserker Khazan
Darksouls trilogi
Dark Souls 1 you'll be hooked
Can’t go wrong with any of them but i’d say DS1. To me that is the platonic ideal of these games.

Q: How do you feel after today’s match?
cvMax: This was the most disappointing match we’ve had in recent times. Even so, I still feel a deep sense of regret.
ShowMaker: Since everything ended with today’s loss, I also feel very regretful.
Q: What was the most disappointing part of the match?
cvMax: It was the Rift Herald fight in Game 2. At that time, both our mid and top had Teleport available, and our AD already had two core items. We were in a favorable position, but what happened there wasn’t just a small setback , it directly caused the “engine” of today’s entire series to break down. That’s why it’s so regrettable. Maybe because things had been going too smoothly, we developed a mindset of not wanting to take risks even while ahead.
ShowMaker: I also think we had many opportunities to extend our lead, but we couldn’t make the most of them, which was very regrettable.
Q: Why did you choose Rammus support in Game 4?
cvMax: We’ve been consistently practicing Rammus support whenever the opportunity came up, and the results were always good. If I summarize the whole series, I think the players performed well in every game. In Game 2, yes, we lost because of a mistake; in Game 1, the players played really well; in Game 3, I think the loss came from draft. Actually, today the players’ form and stamina were both very good, and our early setups in the first three games were solid. But Game 3’s draft wasn’t ideal. For Game 4, I honestly think we won the draft, but the opponent’s gold lead became too big. Everyone worked really hard, but the result didn’t come, which is more disappointing than ever.Precisely because we could clearly imagine a winning scenario, the regret is that much sharper. If there hadn’t even been room to picture winning, it wouldn’t feel this way. But since there was, all I can say is that it’s a real pity.
ShowMaker: In past years we always managed to make it through, but this year we couldn’t qualify. I’ll rest well and think about how to do better next year.
Q: Looking back on this season, how do you feel?
cvMax: This truly was a very regretful season. It always felt like the puzzle pieces never quite fit perfectly together sometimes one player was in top form, but then another part of the team had issues. And when the players who had been struggling finally recovered, the overall preparation just happened to line up perfectly. Honestly, even today I thought all five players’ form and tactical preparation were completely in sync. I truly believed, “We can win today. We really can.” But because the reasons for the loss were so clear, it makes the regret feel even heavier.
ShowMaker: A lot happened this year. We worked hard, but I don’t think the results were very good.
Q: Any final words?
cvMax: Thank you so much to everyone who had high expectations and supported us. I’m sorry we couldn’t live up to that, and I feel truly apologetic. At the same time, I’m sincerely grateful to all who have supported us. Sorry, and thank you.
ShowMaker: Thanks to the fans’ support, I was able to keep going with strength. Even though the results weren’t good, I’ll do my best to perform better next year.
kind of wild to hear they had been scrimming Rammus support too, guess it wasn’t just a desperation pick.
I’m all for creative drafting and team comps but CVMAX’s ego really needs to take a bigger humbling. Dude can’t take any criticism that his shit don’t smell like roses…
That game was draft was simply ass. Even if it performed favorably in scrims, it was just ass when put up against T1’s game 4…
I still will give benefit of doubt pros and coaches no more than us fans so ride or die with the rammus pick.
hope they take the offseason to reset because the regret is heavy but at least they know exactly what went wrong.
Weird take by cvMax.
"I think we played well, and I think we won the draft Game 4. We lost because their gold lead got too big."
Well if you played well and you had the right champs, how the hell did they get too big of a gold lead on you?
Hope the DLC code will work. Otherwise, it's free to return. Nothing to lose.
Uh isn't base price $40?
This is Shadow of the Erdtree edition which has the base game and the expansion together

Someone already did that before you.
58 minutes is not late game. 58 minutes without any side winning there is a lot of gap in macro for both teams
i do not even want to talk about my team lol, had to self mute about halfway in, was questioning my sanity most of the game.
A good what?
typo, meant to say god.
We all know man. Gj
A good team asset
If you're wanting to hide your username you should hide all players. Anyone could look up another player and find the game prob
Gathering swarm must've gone crazy that late into the game
Now play the first one.
I beat Elden Ring back in June of this year, with the intention of revisiting it sometime in the future to play the dlc. I was apprehensive about it at times though, not gonna lie, just because of how everyone kept saying its so difficult, which made me feel unsure if I’d be any good at it, but so far I feel the difficulty level has been fine—nothing too strenuous—and I’ve really been enjoying it. Shadow of the Erdtree is so fun and it’s been a real treat to come back to Elden Ring and go on new adventures :D
So far, I’ve beaten one dragon boss and the divine beast dancing lion and I’ve just been exploring every nook and cranny and talking to the NPC’s. I plan to really take my time with the dlc and savor it. But yeah, I’m glad I bought it.
It could be hard if you don't collect the scadutree fragments. Stuff hits hard but it's not impossible
ive been collecting scadutree fragments though
im not denying shadow of the erdtree is challenging. the point i was trying to make was just that im glad i tried it out for myself instead of being deterred by what i was hearing online
I think when the DLC came out, we didn't know to really collect them and it was hard. I'm glad you got it and are enjoying it
I know about the Garden of Eyes mod and have looked into it, however most of the other stuff on the mod I'm not really into. Just want the bosses from previous games
I don't think so. Nightreign has a few examples of this though
Sounds like its time to give nightreign a try
Hello! I have been wanting to play something new in a while and i’m in a really hard spot choosing! I own elden ring base game and played it 3 rounds when it released, but i haven’t touched it after i got stuck at the final boss on my last one. I have more than 200 hours in the game and i loved it, but i lack a lot of skill and mostly advanced thanks to my friends and kind strangers 😔 the DLC seems really interesting to me and i would love to try it, but i fear getting stuck and not being able to keep on as i don’t have PS plus for co op at the moment. On the other hand, i have never played any resident evil game and i really like the design of the remake! But i’m not sure if it will be my taste. I played the demo and i thought the scenary was very pretty. Which one should i get? I want to spend my money wisely as it came from a birthday gift haha. I love exploring, entertaining games but i lack skill fighting. I would appreciate any help! Thanks a lot in advance :)
Resi 4 remake is one of my fav games, really fun game. I found shadow of the erdtree to be a miserable slog.
I would get RE4, for something new. You should've gotten a feel for the combat during the demo, it'll be the same throughout the game.
Elden Ring DLC is great, but if you can't get past the final boss of the base game, I'm not sure you could take on like half the bosses in the DLC
I cast my vote for Elden Ring
Really though decision, both games are in my top 3 for sure , both are great in their own ways . But if you don’t have access to coop I would suggest go for re4 mostly because SOTE is harder than the base game for sure so not having access to coop aid makes it way harder . You can’t go wrong by picking re4 , awesome game with a lot of replay value if you like going for the achievements, also the dlc is really good (more action pace) and often you can grab both at a good price.
Both are great. Most of the ER DLC bosses are considerably more difficult than anything in the base game. You might get hard stuck really quickly. But if you're up for the challenge go for it. It is awesome.
Hey guys, Elden Ring is going to be my first ever souls game. It was recommended by a friend. I know nothing about how the game works or the mechanics but I have heard it is tons of fun.
So should I try and watch a beginner’s guide or any guides at all or is it going to ruin the experience for me since I am completely clueless about the game?
Is it going to be frustrating without guides if I have 0 experience in those kinds of games?
The game will have pop up guides telling you everything that you need to know, pay attention to them. This game is largely trial and error, with the mentality that with enough tries you can do anything. This game is not hard the movement and mechanics are just unique to this developer
If you're having trouble try something else and come back, also you should try to use whatever your starting classes strengths are. Aka vagabond for str/dex melee weapon builds, astrologer for magic, prophet for faith weapons and spells. Dont worry about what they start with you can find any weapons and armor throughout the game easily (except vagabond armor) Upgrade vigor (hp) a lot until you get to 60, then stop completely because it's not worth upgrading past that. Getting vigor to 60 and stopping should be your main priority when leveling up, then upgrade whatever damage stat you primarily use. Rolling makes you invincible for a small time get good at it, and backstepping is nice if you're using a shield which are useful but dont rely on them too much
For weapons at the beginning of the game you get a lot more damage from weapon upgrades outright, so find something you like and upgrade it by going to smithing stone mines you see around the map. Upgrading strength a lot for example helps when you are using a upgraded weapon that "scales well" with that stat (E-S letter grades), not early game. If you're below lvl 80 only level up stats to bare minimum of the stat requirements it takes to use it
Run around and kill things. Get stronger. Kill bigger things.
That’s all you need on your first playthrough.
Start blind and just explore. Go whenever you feel like and do whatever you feel like. If at some point you find yourself blocked or are confused about something then search it up. But try blind first because IMO the game is much more satisfactory when you explore blindly first.
I advise trying it without any guides first. Some people get frustrated quickly because they have no idea what to do or where to go. If that's you then use guides, it's still fun.
A lot of the experience comes from exploration, unexpected surprises, so I’d recommend not following a guide. However, there are some mechanics which the game doesn’t explain well which are very helpful to know:
iframes on dodging. When you dodge, you actually have a few frames of invincibility, so even though it looks like you’ll get smacked by a big swing, if you time it right, you can dodge roll through most attacks.
Weight. Equipment has weight and there are a few thresholds (light, medium, heavy). As you get heavier your dodges become slower. So balance being tanky vs speedy.
Vigor. This is the only actual recommendation I’d give. A lot of people who struggle early are dying a lot because they die too quickly. So make sure you spend points into gaining health.
Other than that, the game offers plenty of ways to go about playing. For instance, fighting a boss that’s too difficult? Maybe you could summon an ally npc nearby, or maybe there’s an item which can expose a weak spot, or maybe you can attack from a place the enemy can’t reach, and if that fails you can go explore the world to level up and come back stronger. There’s not really a wrong way to play and reading guides can easily put you on a specific route. Part of the joy though is everyone has their own experience engaging with the game. Good luck have fun.
After over a year of coordinating play sessions, our squad finally made it to the end and conquered shadow of the Erdtree. It was quite a long and arduous journey with many nights full of laughter, internal conflict, and run after run into the same boss fog doors. Overall we were stunned by how much from soft had to offer with this DLC. Truly a masterpiece.
Just thought I'd share this commemorative screenshot of the squad with all you Elden Ring lovers out there.
yooooo well done
