Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Weapon Guide

TL;DR

  • Focus on leveling your primary offensive stats to maximize weapon effectiveness.
  • Consider the new weapons introduced in "Shadow of the Erdtree" for unique scaling and abilities.

Leveling and Stat Allocation

To make your weapons stronger, it's crucial to focus on leveling the right stats. For physical weapons, increasing Strength (STR) and Dexterity (DEX) is essential. STR can be increased up to 66 to achieve a max of 99 when two-handing [1:4]. DEX should also be considered if your weapon scales with it [1:5]. Players are advised to avoid spreading their stats too thin and instead focus on reaching soft caps (usually around 50) or hard caps (around 75) for their main offensive stats [2:1].

Weapon Choices and Builds

Selecting the right weapon depends on your build and playstyle. For dex/faith builds, weapons like the Black Steel Twinblade and Queeligns Greatsword offer good scaling and versatility [3:1][3:3]. The Crimson Rector sword and shield combo is recommended for strength-focused builds due to its simplicity and effectiveness [2:2]. It's important to choose weapons that complement your build's strengths and any spells or incantations you plan to use [2:5].

New Weapons in Shadow of the Erdtree

The "Shadow of the Erdtree" DLC introduces new weapons with unique attributes. Some of these weapons have interesting stat requirements and scaling options, such as innate faith scaling and faster attack animations for colossal swords [5:5]. These new additions may encourage int/faith builds to explore different combinations, although some weapons might require tweaking your stats to meet their requirements [5:2].

Talismans and Enhancements

Choosing the right talismans can significantly enhance your weapon's performance. Options like the Pontiff's Eye ring can increase damage output when using specific attacks [1:2]. Additionally, players should consider swapping out talismans that don't stack, such as those affecting normal attacks versus skills [4:3]. Experimenting with different talisman combinations can optimize your build's overall effectiveness.

Community Resources and Feedback

Engaging with community resources, such as Discord servers dedicated to Elden Ring builds, can provide valuable feedback and suggestions for optimizing your weapon choices and build strategies [3:4]. Participating in discussions and contests can also help refine your approach and discover new tactics to enhance your gameplay experience.

Before I start my ng+ using these weapons what stats should I level to make these as strong as possible. I feel like I should be doing more damage than I am, but other than leveling strength idk what else would help. Thanks for any help!

If you use the l1 a lot then the pontiffs (right?) eye ring could help with damage. Other then that leveling strenght will help

Best weapons to use?

Posted by Hadern_77 · in r/LordsoftheFallen · 4 months ago

So I'm running close to lvl 200 I've used the red hand long sword for majority of the game along with the whispering hollow shield

my stats are currenly pretty evened out. Strength and Agility are somewhere around 35 Vitality and Endurance around 50 both Radiance on 40 and I am leveling inferno up

I am using a lot of spells, namely radiant ones for healing and status cleanse with dunmire's scripture

what would the best weapon to use be out of each of the weapon categories -short swords -axe -long sword -spear -axe

I would like to avoid usijg grand swords and grand axes, but I'd like to know those too

I'm a huge fan of sword and board, the shortswords have excellent combos and still have a big enough parry window. That being said, I've no problem with any of the weapons. All have advantages and disadvantages. The big bonks are fun too, just find something that feels right and get some practice.

Crimson Rector sword and shield is a godly sword and board combo. You can grab them super early and just level strength the whole way for a super simple build.

I'm having the best time using Long Sword + Grand Sword.

Swapping between two-handing the long sword or pulling the Grand Sword offers some great variety in strikes and speed for any given situation while doing plenty of damage either way.

I think you are spreading yourself too thin with your offensive stats being only around 30-40. Ideally, by level 100, you’d want your main offense stat to be at or near its hard cap (i.e. 75). Here you’re at level 200, and neither of those are at 50 (soft cap) yet.

That being said, there are good weapons that scale equally across 4 offense stats. One that comes to mind is Rosamund’s Sword. Not sure how the mixed scaling would compare to say, a pure Agi sword at A+ scaling when you have maxed at 75.

Dex/faith weapons in shadow of the erd tree?

Currently running dex/faith build with 80dex/60 faith. Currently using spear of the impaler, guardians keen sword spear (buffed with lightning armament) Godslayers greatsword/halo scythe and bolt of gransaux. I’m also using lightning scorpion charm. I’m looking for a dlc weapon to use that will scale off these stats

Leda’s Sword, Serpent Flail, and all of the fire knight weapons keep passable Dex scaling on flame art infusion.

Black Steel Twinblade! It’s one of the new split damage weapons that you can actually infuse with other types of damage and ashes of war. It’s so good, it has the same running R2 as the godskin peeler.

1 upvotes on reddit
ApprehensiveGuitar52 · 1 year ago

Queeligns Greatsword too! Same deal, it’s also infusable with ashes of war/other damage. Queeligns GS has fire damage as opposed to the holy damage that the black steel twinblade has. Haven’t used that one yet though so I’m not sure how good it’ll be, but I’m sure the damage outputs will be really good once infused.

Weapons: (right hand) Obsidian Lamina, Backhand Blades (blind spot ash) (keen), Sword of Night

(Left hand) Dragon Communion Seal, Sacrificial Axe, Claws of Night

Talismans: Shard of Alexander, Rotten Winged Sword Insignia, Millicent’s Prosthesis, Two Handed Sword

Physics: Thorny Cracked Tear, Opaline Hard Tear

Incantations: Golden Vow, Flame Grant Me Strength (of course), BloodFlame Blade, Furious Blade of Ansbach

Rune: Radahn

Armor: Drippy and still got that over 51 poise (I know I could get more damage with other armor pieces)

Made this to have a bit of versatility with my favorite weapons in the dlc. If I’m not two handing with the sword of night I’ll hold the claws of night. The sacrificial axe in my off hand is for that xp gain when I kill enemies while exploring. Backhand blades and blood flame go crazy, especially on my mimic so we can double penetrate bosses. Only thing I wish I could add would be the thorn sorceries cause they look cool af, but I ain’t putting all those points into int just for that yet.

The 11 faith and int requirements on the last like 3 weapons seems interesting

3 upvotes on reddit
KawakamiForever · OP · 1 year ago

Yeah all of the smithscript weapons are the throwing ones. The daggers I believe are always throwing weapons. But the axe, hammer, and spear act as normal weapons; except that the R2 is replaced by throwing the weapon.

Either way it seems like int/faith builds might be making a comeback this time around?

4 upvotes on reddit
T
TerminallyRight · 1 year ago

I don’t think int faith builds can afford the strength requirement for the hammer in particular. In fact I don’t think any current optimized build that could use that thing without tweaking some stats. I think the int fai reqs are mostly meant to be a balancing factor to the range as opposed to of any real benefit to the weapon itself

However, (this is an extremely mild spoiler) one of the boss weapons is confirmed to be “true” int faith like the SoNAF which is pretty exciting.

6 upvotes on reddit
KawakamiForever · OP · 1 year ago

Note that they're all set to Heavy when applicable because the preset character was a STR build. But you can see via stat requirements a general idea of scaling.

Weapons: Weathered, Lordsworn’s, and Noble’s Slender Swords

Posted by Status-Fun1992 · in r/EldenRingLoreTalk · 5 months ago
post image

Three Straight Swords, each connected to the Erdtree’s people.

The Weathered Sword is very average in my experience. I heard it can be good if made heavy. Its short and wide blade always bothered me visually. It is a simply used weapon so it’s commonly used by commoners, at least in the Lands Between, hence it has its nickname, “the sword of the people”.

The Lordsworn’s is decorated to mark distinguishment as one being a member of a Lord’s army. It sees good condition despite its wielders losing their minds; perhaps like Dark Souls’ hollowing where people will just continue to do as they do, except these soldiers don’t just fight but also continue all their other duties such as making repairs.

The Noble’s Slender Sword bears floral patterning and has indentations like the grooves in tree bark. It is daubed in gold as it’s a status of wealth and close association with the Erdtree.

I find gold to be fascinating in this game, not just because of its mythical nature, but in addition it also is connected to wealth and power, like it has been throughout history, but also gives it a genuine divine connection to lightning and the holy, hence why it has the status it has, and hence why I chose this selection of weapons since all are blessed with gold and used by the people of the Erdtree, whether they be commoners, warriors, or nobles.

The more gold you have the more you are worth. Gold and position tied directly to spiritual worth and purity. A more “golden” soul is more valued one. To fall outside the order is have gold taken from you. This even ties in with Marika granting the golden sap of the tree to the favored.

Blows me away when people can’t see this is why the “golden order” has a very sinister bend to it.

6 upvotes on reddit
Equivalent_Fun6100 · 5 months ago

Remember in the DLC, how (I think it was) the Greatsword of Damnation said that there was something of the Golden Order in the design of the barbs, or whatever?

It makes more sense, what I'm saying, if you look at the barbs that pierced Midra's body, and the shape they form. It's the exact same shape as the gold that makes up the Elden Beast's golden skeleton in the torso.

2 upvotes on reddit
RudeDogreturns · 5 months ago

What do you mean “what I’m saying”?

And yes that makes sense. We’re told godhood is a prison and we see that Marika is crucified and impaled. Mirda is locked in place, through his skull and body, but something that resembles the Elden Ring as it is under the golden order. He is punished and imprisoned just as Marika is and Miqulla would be, and Ranni would be had she not burned the flesh that tied her to her fate.

A 50/50 build usually isn't that strong in the beginning. You'll probably need to lean on one side for a while. Well at least until you get a decent weapon for what's on your mind.

In Radiance, Judgement!

1 upvotes on reddit
Rahovarto · 3 months ago

Both work well, depending on what you prefer. My first build was centered around Bloody Glory, which works best on a Radiance build with some strength and has massive bleed scaling. Having this much Radiance also means that your spells are quite strong, giving you not only the buffs but also a decent ranged damage option.

If you prefer big hammers, you could also go for 50/50 with either Devotion's Might or the Righteous Pulveriser.

Help with Shield and Sword/Axe Build

Posted by Welc0r · in r/Eldenring · 1 year ago

Hi guys and gals,

I’ve never completed a Souls game before, but I bought Elden Ring at launch. Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to finish it because I didn’t have the perseverance to do so.

BUT now the DLC dropped, and it has me hyped to play the game again. I want to start over and try to finish it this time. The problem is, I have little to no knowledge about Souls games, so I’d like your help.

I want to play a shield and sword or shield and axe (like the axes in Bloodborne) type of character, but I really don’t know which attributes I should spec for. Is Strength good for this type of character, or should I level Dexterity? How much HP and stamina should I aim for?

I still want to be mobile, so which shield is good for me? Medium or heavy?

I tried to look up guides online, but most of them tell me where to go and what weapons and gear to use. I think that takes away too much of my enjoyment, so I just want to know the basics of character building and leave the exploration to myself.

Really appreciate your help.

TL;DR: How should I level my attributes for a shield and sword (or axe) type of character? Heavy or medium shield?

Every build starts with a weapon you want to build around. And you find respec stuff throughout the game. You could do something like warped axe or iron cleaver and a greatshield and basically punt everything besides str but there are axes that scale better with other stats so it just depends what you end up wanting to build around

There are different types of Shields and Elden ring summer for just absorbing an attack, and others, if they have a 100% physical, will completely block attacks if you have high enough stanima. You'll have to make some compromises early game like not wearing a helmet or wearing medium armor if you want a heavy shield or heavy armor and a medium to light shield. Axes maces hammers all scale with strength, but if you want a fast weapon like a short sword or a katana, go with dexterity. I am currently using maces for my current run and love it. If you want to do a sword and shield run, the only stats you'll need to focus on are vigor for health, stamina for blocking and attacking, and strength for your weapon damage. Try not to dip into other attributes you don't need like intelligence arcane faith and so on it'll only limit your ability to defend yourself and attack. I know and incantations are tempting but stick to crafting items like fire grease and throwable items. There are soft caps in stats which means leveling past that limits the return in that stat hard caps waste points End game stats Vigor 60 Strength soft cap is 60 max is 80 Endurance 40 soft 60 max If you want to use limited Faith 15 for basic Incantations like heal and flame grant me strength that's boosts attack

The Hammer and Chisel is considered the most op weapon in the base game, but for my money, Hallowed Sword is 2nd best!

Each weapon has two parts that add special abilities, that are found in the map, and each playthrough, you can upgrade each weapon’s damage five times with Quenching Acids, of which up to 13 can be found each playthrough/new game plus (in first playthrough, you can use five quenching acids on a weapon, then in first NG+, five more, as I understand it, etc)

The first upgrade piece for the Hallowed Sword is in a chest behind the first Grisha boss you will encounter (and behind that Grisha in a cave is the best Shell imo, Solomon, the shell for Resolve, Resolve bars being what’s used to use those special weapon abilities that the two parts upgrades give you, as well as a few others)

Both the first upgrade piece for the Hallowed Sword and the Solomon Shell can be got before defeating that Grisha, just by running past it lol

I believe the merchant on top of the hub castle sells one quenching acid, for tar, and there are guides online for the locations of the others. They make an incredible difference btw

I beat the whole game using the holy sword upgraded to +5 (the first one you get in the tutorial)

IMO it is a very good weapon, it is versatile, not too slow and not too fast and very good damage, the others I found very slow except for the axe.

You can improve it with Quenching acid, sold by the merchant x3 near sister génessa in the swamp.

1 upvotes on reddit
melkor_the_viking · 5 months ago

Yes, you use quenching acid to upgrade the base damage of weapons, then each weapon has 2 weapoon specific upgrades, e.g. Hallowed sword is the mechanical spike. Keep exploring, you'll find them. And to answer your question, yes, the Hallowed sword is worth upgrading, I finished the game with it.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree weapon guide

Key Considerations for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Weapon Guide

  1. Weapon Types: Familiarize yourself with the different weapon categories (swords, axes, spears, etc.) and their unique movesets. Each type has strengths and weaknesses depending on your playstyle.

  2. Scaling and Stats: Pay attention to how weapons scale with your character's stats (Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Faith). Choose weapons that complement your build for maximum effectiveness.

  3. Special Abilities: Many weapons have unique skills or abilities. Experiment with these to find synergies with your combat style. Some may offer buffs or special attacks that can turn the tide in battles.

  4. Upgrades and Infusions: Upgrade your weapons using Smithing Stones and consider infusing them with Ashes of War to enhance their capabilities. This can significantly improve damage output and add elemental effects.

  5. Location and Acquisition: Research where to find specific weapons in the game. Some may be tied to bosses, while others can be found in hidden areas or purchased from NPCs.

Recommendations:

  • Greatsword: A solid choice for Strength builds, offering high damage and stagger potential.
