Finding a Hard Copy Guide
While there is no official hard copy guide for "Final Fantasy VII Rebirth," many players express nostalgia for physical strategy guides. Unfortunately, modern guides often redirect users online, which has led to disappointment among those who prefer tangible resources [1:2],
[1:3]. However, if you're set on having a hard copy, one option is to print a PDF version of an online guide and have it bound at a local printing service
[1:10].
Online Guides and Resources
For comprehensive online guides, sites like GameFAQs offer detailed walkthroughs and character guides, such as the highly recommended guide by Absolute Steve [4:2]. Another popular resource is the Caves of Narshe, which provides extensive information on various aspects of the game
[4:6]. These guides can be particularly useful for ensuring you don't miss any characters or secrets during your playthrough.
Character Recruitment Without Spoilers
If you're looking to recruit all characters without spoilers, it's important to note that some characters are not automatically acquired through the main storyline [3:6]. For instance, characters like Umaro, Mog, Gogo, and Shadow require specific actions to recruit
[3:8]. While some players prefer to explore and discover these characters naturally, others may choose to refer to spoiler-free guides that provide hints without revealing plot details
[3:1].
Nostalgia and Collecting
Many fans of the original "Final Fantasy VII" fondly remember collecting strategy guides alongside the game itself [1:5]. Although the landscape of gaming has shifted towards digital resources, there's still a community of players who appreciate the tactile experience of flipping through a physical guide. This nostalgia is echoed in discussions about the value of collector's items and the joy of discovering secrets within the game
[1:6].
Recommendations
For those seeking a complete understanding of "Final Fantasy VII Rebirth," combining online resources with personal exploration can provide a balanced approach. Utilize online guides for detailed strategies and character recruitment tips, while allowing room for personal discovery and enjoyment of the game's narrative and world.
I was hoping there was an official one? I totally understand I can find lots of online guides, but it is nice to have the hard copy for quick reference on elemental weaknesses of baddies. There are lots of Amazon self published that kind of look janky, but if they had good reviews, I would consider it.
I used to love collecting physical copy of strategy guides. But last 10x years. The guide even tell you to go online. WTF. Now I stop buying.
Good point… welp, if you can’t beat them…
I just thought square would make a beautiful collectors item as a guide. I owned one for the original, and it was super helpful for rare items.
I bought all of them even FF12 and FF12 Zodiac Age. I finally gave up after FF15. The reason I buy the guide so I can have all information in my hand. I don’t need a guide to tell me to go online.
I can't help you with a hard copy, but if you use the Assess materia on an enemy you can hit the touch pad button in the top middle to bring up their info again at any point. You only have to scan them once with the exception of wanting to see their current and max hp.
Edit: you only have to assess each enemy type ONCE and you can reference their skills, weaknesses, immunities, and attacks at any point in any future battle without even having to have the Assess materia equipped.
I’m an old school RPGer myself and sometimes find myself about the good ol days buying a new RPG and the strategy guide at the same time for a small discount. And basically reading the entire guide on the way home excitedly telling my dad what to expect on the journey.
I hear the nearest Blockbuster Video sells them up front.
I bet both of your friends laughed pretty hard at that one.
Print as PdF, go to fed ex and have them print and bind it.
Never seen this shot of Cloud before. That's cool!
Cloud, what dat mouth do? Surely didn't exist on the PS1's graphics most of the time, that's for sure.
I love how now you can just find out all that information just by going to the wiki
I think it's a bit sad tbh. There's use to be tons of secrets in game before. But now that everything is accessible online, I found the number of secret location ect particulary going low.
Still have mine! And the Brady Games version. Pristine condition.
this right here was the best FFVII guide, way better than the Brady one
I’m playing this game for the first time and I’m trying to avoid spoilers, that being said I also want to get all of the characters just for completions sake. I do not want to do a second play through with a guide, just one. Is there a guide somewhere online that tells you how and when to get each character and in what order you get them without plot spoilers? If there isn’t one but one of you guys just has it all memorized from playing the game a bunch of times please tell me and I’ll just refer back to this post as I go through the game. Thanks 🙏🏻
There are 14 (permanent) playable characters.
About halfway through the game, a pretty major event happens that changes everything you've known up until this point. You'll know it when it happens. After said event, you'll be playing as Celes and your party has disbanded and you'll to rerecruit them. Technically there are only 2 specific characters that you HAVE to recruit in order to beat the game, and the game gives both of them to you. Everyone else you need to find, and sometimes even when you do find them, there a trick to getting them to rejoin you.
There's 2 characters in the second half that you can recruit that you've never seen before, and their locations take a little work getting to (its possible that you actually have seen one of them in the background of a certain town if you've been paying attention to that).
There's 2 others that you've already met, but depending on actions you've taken BEFORE this major event, they may never join you after the event happens. On top of that, 1 of these encounters is completely optional. So be thorough when exploring the world before moving on to this major event. Just remember that when given a option to choose friends or treasure, choose friends, and when given the option to run or wait, wait.
Terra, Locke, Edgar, Sabin, Celes (in one of the split scenarios), Shadow, Cyan, Gau (all three in another one of the split scenarios), Setzer, Mog, Strago, Relm, Umaro, Gogo
The only ones you don’t automatically get as part of the main story is Umaro, Mog, Gogo and Shadow right?
It’s a tricky question to answer. If you’re asking if they EVER join your party automatically, Shadow briefly does even if you ignore him everywhere else. Mog, Gogo, and Umaro would be the three that don’t automatically join at all. If you’re asking about the end of the game, there are only three required characters that you have to have, the rest you would need to recruit again.
Don’t really want to say more to avoid spoilers. Only one character is permanently missable for endgame, just remember to wait when asked.
As part of the story line there is a point you will cross that removes all but 1 party member. You have the choice of collecting them or not after that.
At least 2 characters are not available until then, and 1 has a 50/50 chance of being recruiteable after depending on your choices before that point.
Don't follow a guide, character recruitment plays a major role in the game through the very end. Maybe if you run out of places to explore and all that appears to be left is the final tower, look some stuff up.
There is only one permanently missable character. If the game explicitly asks if you want to wait for Shadow, wait for Shadow.
The answer I needed lol
There's one charater that absolutely will require spoilers to tell you how to recruit them. No way around that. And additional hoops to actually recruit him if you're able.
A large chunk require you to just visit every location and/or progress the main story
This is tricky because the very existence of the last two characters is kind of a spoiler in itself, and keeping two other characters that could be lost forever is also sort of a spoiler. I’ll try to keep it vague for you so you can still enjoy your first playthrough:
There are 14 characters in FFVI, plus a couple “cameo” characters you only get temporarily (ie. Biggs and Wedge in the very beginning). You get 10 of them guaranteed by just playing the game.
There is a loner assassin type character that you can temporarily recruit when you see him, sometimes for a fee. He can potentially be a permanent member later in the game.
You can get another character by exploring Narshe after you’ve progressed through the game a decent amount. Make sure to explore all the shops and storehouses in Narshe, see what happens, and remember the power of friendship is more valuable than any shiny object!
When you’re given a choice to wait in a stressful environment, wait. Stick around and see what happens.
One of the characters mentioned above has a surprisingly obedient friend. If you explore Narshe’s caves and ice fields much later in the game you’ll have a violent first impression, but bring the right character along and see what happens afterward.
Much, much later in the game you might find a triangle-shaped island with a curious enemy that really likes to vacuum stuff. Makes you wonder what happens if it vacuums your party…
Much later in the game you will have to re-recruit all the characters. Basically they all split up and you have to find them again. The game drops very heavy hints for the first three or four, and after that it’s up to you to either talk to NPCs and pay attention to what they say or ask the internet for more clues. It’s a much better experience to figure it out yourself with the clues the game provides, but if you get stuck come back here and we can nudge you in the right direction without giving it all away.
This is exactly what I was asking for, thank you so much man!
Happy to help :)
Just out of curiosity how far are you into the game at this point, and which character(s) are your favorite?
Iirc, isn't there an npc that more or less quotes number 6?
And to add to 7, npcs change dialogue with events, and just in general. Talk to all and as often as possible....you won't always find someone who says 'I'm a farmer.'
I've just completed remake, and the original game was one of my favourite ever games. I loved the remake and it makes me want to play the original again as not played it since I was a kid and I'm in my early 30s now... Looking at getting it on the switch. When I was a kid though, I never explored everything. It took me years to realise there were optional characters!
I know the story and now want a complete run-through. What is the best online guide that details everything and make sure I don't miss anything. I don't want to have to keep skipping back and forth in the guide to different sections to realise I should have done something much earlier.

Very comprehensive 100% guide.
This is the most complete guide by far. But txt only might make it harder to read / follow than others
I also felt that one “trick” in the north crater wasn’t explained as well as it could’ve been. IMO.
Second this one!
Just go to GameFaqs site and check out FF7 OG guide
Thanks. Forgot that site exists. Old school haha. Looks like I've found a pretty good guide that details when you're about to miss something :)
Caves of narshe is awesome for all ff things
I’m hoping the green guy in the top left isn’t to strong because it’d be nice for my girl to at least reach round 2 before getting crushed
DANG IT I JUST NOTICED I WAS TOO LATE
Hopefully there'll be another one later so I can pit my goat John Library against all the weaklings here
LET'S GO MY BLORBO GOT IN!
you might have to defend them pretty well considering who they are pared up against
Oh and this: https://youtu.be/QQ5YcDW17YM?si=zPwOhmbp6-fik9jD

Well, for one, she’s implied to be immortal, or at least very least a demi god of some kind,

Baldi is gonna sweep 100%
I'm going to replay FF7 before the remake comes out, and I just want a spoiler-free guide for all the missable items. Having played it many years ago, I know most of the story but a lot of the details will still surprise me this time around so I would love to not be told 'this happens before this' kind of guide. A lot of the ones I found so far are pretty spoilery... there's one guide in particular that I'm trying to find that I found a couple years ago when I thought I would replay FF7 that was great for this... (never got around to it).
It was a rather obscure website that one redditor linked, I remember it had a beige background, and all the missable items fit onto about one screen page with the formatting (nothing fancy). It was very direct to the point, and it made an effort to be spoiler free. Wish I could find that one in particular, but maybe someone has something else to recommend. Thanks!
Have you checked gamefaqs.com? When I was a kid I’d go there for walkthroughs and I remember there were specialized guides.
Yeah of course! Unfortunately its not the guide I had in mind, and what they do have is a little too detailed for what I'm looking for. I found a great reddit post that has some users who took care of not posting any spoilers... I might use this in the end but I know it's not really complete.

I got the game recently on PS4 and I'd like to get the platinum on it, I'm searching for a guide (possibly written) that can get me through the whole game fast and also indicates what I don't need to miss for trophies and such, if anyone has a link for one please send it I'd be very welcome
I vouch for the Absolute Steve guide:
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps/197343-final-fantasy-viii/faqs/51741

But the Bover_87 are great, too.
I like jegged a lot too. The screenshots are super helpful and the formatting is very organized. It even covers side quests with redirecting links to separate pages to cover it.

I did my platinum with this guide - 100% recommend it, one week no issues, and I was a complete ff8 newbie.
Missables guides on gamefaqs. Gamefaqs is still the reigning champion of guides for old school to mid-aughts RPGs
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps/197343-final-fantasy-viii/faqs/72431/introduction
This one by bover_87 is hands down the best one. They're very detailed without giving away spoilers to the story.
Bover_87 writes excellent guides. This is a plus one from me
So, I sadly lost my old physical copy of the guide book which I've used for my past four playthroughs. With the remaster coming out is there a physical copy out there that's worth it? Otherwise what's the best guide(preferably with pictures) online? Thanks!
https://jegged.com/Games/Final-Fantasy-VIII/
Jegged guides are great and pause to mention what other side quests and things to do become available as they happen. Well worded, paced and images available where required.
Think the FF8 one has some missing addition bits/side quest info but all round it's the best
Wow, this exactly what I was looking for thank you!
If you get around to it, the FF9 guide and FF10 guide are also the best online too and are updated with PS4 trophies/how to platinum.
Most of the guides, if not all, on the FF wiki are good. I've been using those for a while now when playing a title, either 1st, or in a long time, to remind myself of certain things/cant miss stuff
I don't know which guide you had originally but Amazon has some used ones starting at 20 bucks
Theres probably a ton on gamefaqs
The sad thing is.
The Gamefaqs guides are normally REALLY good.
But they all look like they are written in ASCII and are just walls of text on a screen.
There is something about the graphic pages of a Prima/Brady Games Guide that just feels so much better. Even if they are normally worse.
I used this one in my recent play through, good at keeping you aware of the implications of your actions: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps/197343-final-fantasy-viii/faqs/72431
Edit: sorry no pics, I usually have the guide open on my phone while playing on PC.
This game has 50 trophies: 38 bronze, 9 silver, 2 gold, and a platinum.
They are easy (3/10) and take 30 - 40 hours to complete.
Price: $19.99
OpenCritic: 72 / 100 (based on 74 reviews)
Other region prices, wishlist, or buy | Trophy guides: PSNP, PS3T
I am a bot. More info about me
I have that strategy guide too! :3
Best strategy guide ever
I still got mine. Purchased it back in 1998 and still use it despite not really having a need having played the game so much.
Mine is falling apart, but I still got it!!
One of the only guides I have. It's riddled with misprints and omissions though, the more you read through it. It doesn't tell you where to get W-Magic, or even mention it in the Materia list. Same with many obscure equipment like Behemoth Comb. Enemy Skills are incomplete as well, which I realized during my last playthrough are one of the most fun parts of the game.
