Utilize Boons Effectively
Understanding how to optimize boon choices for different weapons is crucial in Hades 2. Aphrodite is a strong choice for melee or close-range damage boosts due to her high damage output and secondary effects like weakness [5:3]. Apollo offers similar benefits but allows for more spacing with his ranged abilities
[5:3]. Zeus can be powerful on secondary strikes, providing significant damage when paired with the right setup
[5:2]. Experimenting with different combinations, such as Ares' attack boon on Thanatos axe, can lead to highly effective builds
[5:7].
Early Game Strategies
In the early stages of the game, focus on gathering keys and purple stones to unlock skills in the Mirror of Night [3:2]. Nectar should be given to gods to receive keepsakes that guarantee their boons in future rooms
[3:4]. Athena's dash boon is particularly useful for new players due to its deflect ability, which helps reduce incoming damage while learning the controls
[3:1].
Aggressive Playstyle
Adopting an aggressive playstyle can be beneficial. Many players find that being hyper-aggressive, especially with boons that reward frequent attacks, makes the game more enjoyable and effective [1:4]. However, it's important to balance aggression with strategic retreats, especially against challenging bosses like Theseus
[1:7].
Resource Management
Managing resources effectively is key to progression. Darkness and gems are best collected from Treasure Troves and repeated boss battles [3:4]. Investing in permanent upgrades early on will make subsequent runs easier. The Fated List of Minor Prophecies is a valuable purchase as it provides additional rewards for completing specific tasks
[3:4].
Experimentation and Enjoyment
Ultimately, Hades 2 is about experimentation and finding what works best for your playstyle. Don't hesitate to try different weapons, gods, and strategies to discover new synergies and improve your gameplay [2:2]. Remember, the game is designed to be replayed multiple times, so enjoy the process of learning and improving with each run.
What tricks or tips do you with you knew as a noob?
Okay, I know I'm late to the party and this may be unique for me but I've found the best outcomes mainly with Weapons like gloves, spear, and sometimes shield make sure you equip the Artemis trinket you get from her. The first chance you get, and it's usually an option first thing is to get her special upgrade because that critical chance helps a lot especially when you spam the special. I got through my first run through at try 25 and tried that pattern again and again and got quite a few in a row. I also like to pair this with Athena's deflect dash and some type of Poseidon knock back attack. It does turn the game into more of a button masher, but I'm impatient so this helped me get through fast. This may not be the case for everyone so some of the things mentioned above were really helpful too.
Some things I would tell myself specifically are
Hermes is not useless. More dodges, movement speed, call gauge auto fill, even more money.
USE. THE. CAST. don't just pick one and then never use it.
Nectar isn't some crazy rare resource. Give everyone one.
Use something other than Cerberus' Collar. 50 health is great and all, but there are other useful trinkets.
Actually look around the room before you leave. There are fishing spots, Chaos gates, and gold pots. Also once you beat REDACTED, there are fishing spots there too.
Check the Shopkeeper in between runs. He sometimes sells Titan Blood for an absolute steal.
Talk to NPCs. It isn't just repeated dialogue. They have stories that get pushed forward by speaking to them.
Use the traps to kill enemies. They do big damage. They kill stuff other than you. Plus it is fun.
Calls are important. Sometimes you gotta save it for a max call, sometimes you gotta use them individually.
To kill the small chariots, just dodge through a wall back and forth. They explode when they hit the wall. That, or use Ares dodge.
Don't just always pick the shop. Wait until you have enough coin to ACTUALLY buy more than one thing. If you only buy one thing, you might as well have chosen the other door. (unless you really don't want what the other door is or need something specific like health)
The well is useful. It is not just a health/gem/darkness dispenser. The items can make a pretty decent difference, especially with the Hourglass trinket. It also can sometimes give another Death Defiance for 200 Obols.
The Purging Pool is a useful tool. More money is good, and removing boons you are not using means Poms are more likely to choose the ones you are using. Sometimes picking a Legendary/Duo boon just for the money can be a good choice. 400 Obols is nothing to scoff at.
Extreme Measures is a good first Heat to pick. You were complaining that the bosses didn't have enough moves, so here ya go, more moves. 2 birds with one stone.
Seems like I’m doing pretty good if I’m only missing one of these tips (started playing a day and a half ago). I would also say that for people who feel like cerberus’s collar is necessary, just use darkness to max out that one health upgrade (think it’s unlocked after the 20 key requirement) and you’ll have the 50 extra health you would normally get from the collar. 150 health is absolutely not necessary for Tartarus and you’ll likely find plenty of centaur hearts on your way anyway.
Being hyper aggressive is by far the best way to play. I played kinda defensively in the beginning to conserve my health and got chipped way too often. Hermes' plume corrected that and I never looked back.
Ooooo this. I've been playing for a couple days and got the boon that gives you 2hp per attack landed. That got me aggressive and boy I had more fun from that point on.
I actually somewhat disagree with this if you’re still figuring out dodge times. Especially for Theseus, where being aggressive is often not the best strategy.
Maybe 32 heat and above but below that? You should shred him in under 10 seconds, otherwise your build is bad.
A lot of YouTubers or other people say to always take the daedalus hammer. However if you get a chaos gate or eurydice room take that instead because the game will keep offering you daedalus hammers until you have 2
How important Nyx's mirror is and proper knowledge of all the boons and their effects
So… i knew this game was a banger since its release to Nintendo switch but never saw the appeal “also on a device i don’t have anymore “
And then it released on PS5 didn’t buy and waited to be on sale and today finally bought it
All i know about the game is
1- it’s roguelike basically trial and error until you beat hades 9 times? Currently playing Nightreign for similar experience
2- i know about all the Greek gods that they give you buffs to build around and NPC who are greek characters that are vendors
And that’s about it so do give mr your best game breaking builds
just enjoy the game. dont think too deeply. It's about replaying again n agin and learning new builds. choose a weapon, choose a god keepsake, and try to complete the run. failed change god or weapon. that's it. Hope you enjoy it ✌️
a lot of dash strike, merciful end ares athena duo is completely game breaking, don't be afraid to die
Athena dash.
Collect keys at the start so that you can unlock more options on the mirror of night and also collect darkness to afford the upgrades. Get the second dash, purchase extra death defiances (DD), thick skin and privileged status.
By the time you do this you should have a pretty good grasp of what you should be doing and take it from there.
Have fun and good luck!
There's no such thing as being late for Hades
(Me still playing and Platinuming 100% Hades years later)
Your parenthetical describes me also.
haha. Good to hear.
Hey it's my Uncle Zeus! ⚡ 🌩️
I bounced off it when it came out, forgot for years, then just got my first heat 0 a week ago... It didn't get less fun over the years.
It is not similiar to nightreign, as nightreign has you moving freely across the map while Hades has you having a predetermined path with different types of variables. Hades has only one character but 6 weapons but all play differently. The between run progression is also bigger with Hades.
Just started playing Hades so can you experts give me any tips?
Gather keys and purple stones in the beginning. It’s useful to unlock more and increase the skills in the mirror in your room. Then also gather the orange filters that can be used for gifts to the gods. Give one to each god and get their keystone which allow you to have some additional skills and also to define your built based on boons. Each god keystone makes sure you will get that’s gods boons next level. These two are the most useful I think. I. The beginning you have to farm the above to make the game easier later on. No reason to try to reach the end at the beginning the game is built in a way to make you stronger the more you play.
Thanks that really helps
Play and have fun! Focus on the ressouces needed to get permanent upgrades while getting to grips with the game and go for full clears at about 15-20 runs
Focus on Keys and Nectar early on.
Best source of Darkness is Treasure Troves (unlocked via the Contractor) and beating bosses youve already beaten, not Room rewards.
Best source of Gems is Treasure Troves.
Also dont be afraid to buy Darkness and Gems from Charon/Wells early on.
Buy the Fated List of Minor Prophecies from the Contractor ASAP.
Give Nectar to Cerberus and Skelly first, as their Keepsakes are really good early on when you don't have a lot of Mirror stuff powered up yet.
Experiment with different builds on different weapons to figure out what works, a big part of this games "skill" is figuring out how to out builds together and what powers work best with what weapons.
This gives you a bunch of tips and game knowledge!
Thanks dude, really great video!
Give a gift to Athena and equip it to get her boons more often. Deflecting will allow you to get steadily used to the controls while not taking damage. Her dash in particular is broken for first time players
1 week. I've had this game for 1 week. In that week, I've logged 60 hours. Granted, a good chunk of that was taking breaks and just leaving the game on, but still at least 40 hours in a week. It's just too fun. How am I supposed to do other stuff this summer when I could instead be playing Hades? I'm not even good at it, I've only beaten [redacted] a couple times. But even though I'm bad it's just so fun, so I want to get better
I’m pretty sure SGG have somehow managed to infuse the pure addictive essence of crack cocaine into their game.
Well either that or they have just made a well polished game that they put many hours of love, blood, sweat and tears into while also respecting the players of their games.
It’s probably the second one but the first one sounds more insane and funny.
Also congrats on beating redacted a few times already. Here are some links that should be able to help you understand the game better.

Widely considered the Hades 1 Bible(jokingly but for good reasons). It is one of, if not the best Hades 1 guide out there.

Use them now, use them later or never use them. These are just tools I’ve given you that you can use if you so wish.
Also one more thing before I go. This sub is usually pretty chill and it’s rather helpful as well. So don’t be afraid to ask questions.
Usually you will get at least a few answers within the first hour to day of posting.
Good luck, have fun and always remember,
THERE IS NO ESCAPE!!! EVIL LAUGHTER!!!
Damn. You got this many helpful links for Hades 2? I just got it and feel like I have yet to get it like I did Hades 1.
There is really not that many things made. Since H2 is still in EA and subject to chance every few months. No one has made big guides like these.
I don’t have time right now to make any sort of mini guide for you. It will have to wait until after I’m done with work.
I second that this sub is very chill. I'm a 43 year old gamer so have been a member of lots of gaming subs and people here are great. I just started the game last week as well, got it for $10 on PS5. I've got 30ish hours in and took me 47 runs to see the surface. So much to do and loving it!
Wep. I’ve been here in this sub near daily for over a year and I can count the number of truly toxic interactions I’ve have had here on one hand.
I don't think I'm going to quit playing until Hades 2 comes out on the Switch.
EXACTLY. THIS GAME IS MY NEW ADDICTION. Although I got carpal tunnel and have to take a break from it, how will I survive??
Yeah I once had to use my middle finger to left click because I was fighting REDACTED for the first time 😭
Oof. I can't beat Lernie, and it's really annoying because I'm so close to beating him, them he kills me at the last second. And my dad is um... Not giving me the best advice? I think he's assuming I'm farther in the game than I actually am lol. Told me to start fishing, but I don't have a rod.
Hi all,
I'm making this post to better understand how to optimize Boon choices for the different weapons. I've played Hades 1 to death, clearing 32 Heat EM4 with each aspect. So I'm familiar with the basic maths of Hades seems to work, but Hades 2 has so much more stuff that I feel like I'm getting lost in the sauce.
I'm going to start writing down my observations, inviting people to politely critique or re-affirm what I've found.
Aphrodite
Clear best choice for melee/up-close damage boosts, specific synergies notwithstanding. I guess Blades would benefit from other Gods due to how weak the normal attacks are, except the finisher.
Pretty good but inconsistent support boons. I appreciate Wispy Wiles, but it's unfortunate her own attacks are Water. Secret Crush seems awesome for any multi-hit build, but those are usually at odds with what you'd want her standard Boons for.
Apollo
Apollo seems like the de-facto choice for amplifying high-damage hits, due to the sheer size of attacks, making CC easier, and making melee a bit safer.
Daze seems good.
Ares
I feel like only a select few weapons want Ares' Boons over others, and I don't know what those are. It's definitely slower attacks, right? Ones where the cooldown on Wounds is something you'd organically wait for anyway? This seems to just include Omega hits and the Axe, though if the Omegas have any range, Apollo or other % gods would be better for spamming?
Rallying Cry seems so awesome, but so tricky to get in practice.
Demeter
Hephaestus
I don't have a damn clue what to do with Heph. I've got an Attack Boon of his to work exactly once, doing hit-and-run with a 2 or 3 second cooldown on the Boon. But it seems so mediocre in the mid-to-late-game. Does going all-in on Heph work?
The temporary armor from Trusty Shield, along with Tough Gain, seem crazy for Strength builds.
Hera
The biggest unconditional % increase, but Hitch seems pretty whatever compared to Apollo's AOE. Feels like I need to do more mental work to exploit Hitch's effective AOE.
Incredibly goofy abilities otherwise. Fishing for one of Zeus/Hera's Duos might seem pretty good?
Hestia
I don't know what to do with Hestia's Scorch. Just fast multi-hit stuff? I'm confused by the wording: "Curse: Afflicted foes take 100 damage accrued from this every 1 Sec." So does this mean that Scorch abilities can accrue indefinitely, like 999, but 100 of that will be "used" every 1 second, dealing that damage? So It's ideal for hit and run?
Slow Cooker seems tempting, but no Fire Attack/Special Boons affect damage %-wise. Seems like you'd want Slow Cooker on weaker hits, then buff that further with Apollo/Aphro/whatever.
Poseidon
"Treasure, from the sea!" Incredibly awesome support boons.
Not sure how to evaluate Splash. There're obvious benefits with fast multi-hit moves. When do you take that over Air Quality? When the minimum damage doesn't benefit that much from being set to 50? I think I'm underestimating Poseidon, idk how well his Boons scale with Poms.
Zeus
Air Quality.
Blitz is kinda weird to me. You get +Blitz damage after hitting the 120 damage threshold, so your DPS ought to be at least 120, but if your DPS is way higher than the Blitz damage... it feels like a waste. Is Blitz always good on anything medium-fast, as long as you feed it Poms?
Closing
I wanted to go on, but there's so much stuff to go over... forget covering all the Duos. Are any Duos reasonable+powerful to build for?
I recently beat Typhon the first time with Hera+Apollo, which appears to be one of the most overtuned Boons in either game. If you've never gotten it... It's pretty goofy.
Zeus is something you rarely want on your main damaging strike, but can be a ton of damage if you put it on a secondary strike. Omega special on torches, special on skulls (especially medea), special on coat, special on axe, stuff like that. It can also be a great primary source of damage with romantic spark, but that’s more complicated to set up.
For Hera, hitch in general is one of the best statuses in the game when you can apply it consistently, and born gain is the best magick regen in the game in almost every situation. Her cast is pretty good to pick up to just put it on an AOE and spread damage around everybody there, and her percentages are not bad. Not as good as Apollo, but having a curse can help activate origination for an extra 50% damage. Her secondary boons built around rarity can be pretty good, and fine line is also damn strong in an omega spam build, but rousing reception is definitely goofy. Her duo with Zeus can also be super strong for either side depending on your build.
Heph’s armor is super good, and his blasts are ridiculous if you can get them going, but that’s requires good rarity and poms and secondary Heph boons and duo boons and so much so it can definitely be hard to get going. Prioritizing Apollo, Poseidon, Hestia, and Demeter in that order to supplement the blasts can make them really strong, but it definitely takes a lot of
Also yeah Ares is in a weird place and I hope he gets some kind of buff before 1.0
I got inspired by this and clapped Typhon with Heph special Eos Wands. Got a bunch of his synergies, 2 sec cooldown, and melted the guy. Thanks!
Aphrodite is a generic good god for weapons that want to get in close. Has strong damage, extra tankiness due to weakness, and some solid secondary effects that boost your damage.
Apollo is pretty similar to Aphrodite as a generic good god in that he provides solid damage, some extra tankiness from his status curse, and some multipliers on his secondary boons. The playstyle is different though because while Aphrodite wants you to get in close, Apollo lets you space enemies more due to his bonus range and his damage buff working even when you're not close.
Ares is a very strong supporting god and works with basically every build. Unlike most gods which primarily give additive bonuses, Ares has two sources of multiplicative scaling: attack speed from plasma as well as his 200% mechanic from Grievous Blow (giga strong boon btw) and Mutual Destruction. Yes, the two 200% damage boons are true multiplicative scaling that works on any source of damage, which if you know how Hades math works will really make you appreciate how strong they are. You typically don't want to take Wounds on your primary damage button but it's excellent to put on your secondary damage button because the flat +50 every few seconds is more valuable on the button you're not spamming. Plus taking wounds opens up Grievous Blow, which as mentioned before is a ridiculously strong boon.
Demeter is also a very strong supporting god that can be fit into basically every build. Unlike Ares, Demeter is a defensive supporting god, but having her in your god pool is really helpful at making you not die. Her best boon is Arctic Ring (massive instant AoE CC for dealing with regular encounters) which is huge for not dying, especially valuable as regular enemies get harder and harder on higher fear. Snow Queen is the other boon that is typically looked for from Demeter, as one free block per room can add up to a LOT of HP saved on higher fear when enemies are scarier. Her other boons are hit or miss depending on the build you are going for (sometimes Weed Killer is great and other times it does absolutely nothing, for example), and you usually don't want her attack/special that much because Arctic Ring is broken and freeze effects don't stack.
Hephaestus is the other very strong defensive supporting god, along side Demeter. Trusty Shield is similar to Snow Queen in that it blocks an instance of damage per room. And Security System also gives you effectively free hits at the start of each encounter. His blasts are typically a bit too resource intensive to commit to (they can be fun if you do commit to them but the build is inconsistent), but his cast is quite good if you find him early, as it does an unusually high amount of damage for a cast boon and that base damage is quite good for the first 2 or so biomes.
Hera is a strong god in general, arguably one of the strongest. Hitch is a very useful status effect and helps a lot with room clear (which becomes increasing more relevant at higher fears). Outside of her boons just giving you solid percentage multipliers, Hitch is basically a multiplicative damage increase if you spread it around. Hitting one enemy and having the damage hitch onto another means you deal 130% of the damage. But say you have five enemies all hitched together, now hitting one enemy and splashing 30% onto the other four is effectively 220% damage. Born Gain is a broken boon for super magick hungry builds, which is another reason that you might want to take Hera (those builds usually have Hera start just because of how valuable Born Gain is) and her secondary boons aren't too bad either.
Hestia does good damage on multi-hitting weapons. You're understanding Scorch correctly in terms of how it works. It used to suck but it got buffed a lot in this patch and its damage is actually quite good. You can get supporting boons to boost its damage and also do room clear patterns where you stack enough scorch on an enemy and then switch targets, letting the first enemy just naturally die to burn damage.
Poseidon is the other multi-hit god. You usually only want him on weapons with the potential to hit quickly, but he offers solid damage to those weapons (a lot better than Air Quality). It is also worth noting that he is a great supporting god for cast builds, as Geyser Spout is a LOT of damage.
Zeus is broken. Air Quality is a mediocre boon though. It has its uses but the things it applies to are surprisingly little because it only happens after any other damage boosts are already applied. The real source of Zeus's strength is how powerful Blitz is. It has very high base damage (scales well with both rarity and with poms), making it a strong option to take on your secondary button for most weapons. You can then focus on a play pattern of something like "press special to apply blitz -> do some attacks to trigger blitz", which is surprisingly strong. Some weapons can even apply and trigger blitz very quickly in short succession, which makes it even stronger. It also has multiplicative scaling with Double Strike, and sometimes you have a Zeus + Hera build and you luck into Kings Ransom to giga charge both your Blitz + Double Strike and you do so, so much damage.
In general I would separate gods into the following categories:
Primary button is the button you press most often (typically attack), secondary button is the other attack button (typically special). Also keep in mind that just because a god like Zeus is on your secondary button doesn't mean he is worse than a primary button god. When you have Blitz it's usually a HUGE portion of your damage. It's just that you typically prefer to put Blitz on your secondary button if given the choice.
Awesome writeup, tyvm!
I've found Scorch to be utterly bonkers with Aphrodite's duo boon with Hestia. Not causing scorch to overwrite itself, paired with a fast-hitting delivery method, can cause you to melt pretty much anything in your way.
Just get Glamor Gain and fire away!
Right on! I'll give it a try.
Same for me, with Hera + Apollo that you mentioned, that sounds interesting.
Hera I've used a lot, but Apollo is probably my least-chosen of the nine gods.
I've been addicted to Ares' attack boon on Thanatos axe, and just getting that 200% damage chance as well as all andbany damage increases possible - I run Judgment arcana with Origination/boon-alter dice and Strength
Got me thinking I should put Ares on special and Apollo/Aphro on attack now...
That sounds fun actually...
Heph blasts build towards all his blast duos with Hestia, Apollo, Poseidon, or Demeter in roughly that order. Also he’s like Cookie Monster but for Poms you can’t get enough. Well, he can when the boon’s cooldown is at 2 seconds.
A high-rarity Blitz is basically never bad with global damage boosts (Furies, Origination). It scales loony with rarity and extremely well with Poms. Either main it or throw it on a move you’re working in regularly.
Same thing with Ares. Throw it on an off-hand move you’re willing to work in. His Wounds tier-2 Grievous Blow gives everything you do a chance at double damage. It’s great. Otherwise maining Ares is best on moves with damage boosts built-in to take advantage of the added power from applying Wounds. Think Medea, Moros, blades hammers with gigantic percentages.
Poseidon and Hestia are best on fast-hitting stuff, as you’ve intuited.
You’re over-valuing Air Quality; you can’t always get 5 air boons with your god pool and with global damage boosts and rarity/poms Poseidon waves will exceed 50 per splash. AQ is mostly for making Static Shock or Demeter Gusts silly strong.
Your understanding of Scorch is correct: you apply the number on the boon per strike, it ticks down at 100 scorch per second. The damage actually inflicted is increased by global damage boosts that are active at the time. Her boon Pyro Technique speeds up the consumption rate and accordingly the damage. You can do hit-and-run or just hit stuff it’s good damage. Good duos with Aphro and Demeter.
Lots of duos are good to build towards. Romantic Spark (Aphro-Zeus) is great. Zeus has a great duo with Ares and ok ones with Poseidon and Hestia and a silly one with Hera. Poseidon-Ares is solid. Ares has good blades duos with Apollo and Heph. Demeter-Ares is bananas on big Omega cast aspects (Circe, especially Momus, Supay????, Charon).
I got the game yesterday, did 8 runs and wondered if there was any tips people had that I could use
So does anyone have tips for me?
Athena's Divine Dash is amazing and you should always go for it.
Definitely an almost always pick for me if I haven't gotten a different boon. Athena, Poseidon, and Ares have solid dash boons that can make runs way easier.
Keep moving, talk to everyone, give away nectar often as possible, and there are more skills on your mirror than you probably realize (hint: left side of the skill theres a toggle button)
Might be confusing cause you only unlock it after a while
Don’t get discouraged over dying a lot. You will get stronger and smarter as the runs will get longer. The boons will get better.
Not to mention, the story gets better and better. Have fun dying!
Ok thx
You are invulnerable when dashing, so with proper timing your can dash straight trough danger.
This only works when you are just dashing, if you dash-strike you can be hit.
Oh thanks I didn't know that
Concentrate on getting Keys! and enjoy, this game is awesome
I've only gotten to Rivals 2 so far, so no spoilers beyond that but the upgrade in difficulty feels a lot harder than Hades 1 and the bosses feel almost impossible, taking multiple to all death defiances. Are there any advice or tips on what to do or is just a skill issue on my part here?
I think its part skill issue and the bosses being a bit too strong. The strategies that we used for their previous forms don't work as great with them like rushing Unrivaled Prometheus would just kill you ASAP. My tips would be to plan your run knowing what you're up against and use all the broken things at your disposal (scorch is bonkers now) Good luck!
Polyphemus 2.0 in particular feels destined for a nerf. I'm kind of enjoying the fight in its current form even though it inevitably has at least one 'he grabbed me from across the screen' moment, but I can't imagine that's the final version of it.
I think they're fine as they are, the whole point of the vow of rivals (and fear in general) is that it's supposed to be hard. It's not like they're THAT hard to begin with if you're experienced with the game.
Make sure you have upgraded all the arcana cards and your weapon aspects and keepsakes - that's your baseline
Then make sure you have a build in mind when starting a run and try to aim for it.
And then it's just pure skill and learning boss moves.
Aside from the more specific advice folks have given: Be patient with yourself and give yourself some grace with the learning curve.
It's easy to forget a year into EA, but we all struggled with the bosses in their Rival-Free form for the first few weeks after they were initially released as well. While the identity of the bosses themselves are largely unchanged in their rivaled form, in terms of attack patterns and strategies you're basically looking at 8 new bosses to learn at once.
It's going to take time to memorize and adapt your play style accordingly, let alone doing so on a consistent basis. And honestly, that's not an indictment of player skill or even boss difficulty - it's just the reality of having effectively doubled the boss pool AND having done so all at once instead of staggering them across multiple updates like they did with the Surface bosses.
Give yourself time to learn and practice without getting to frustrated by a self imposed timeline of when you 'should' have it down by. It's a LOT to take in at once, give yourself some grace and keep your head clear enough that it's more likely to stick.
I remember the days when Eris gave me more trouble than Chronos. Hell, Prometheus STILL does sometimes.
My only gripe is for Rivals 3 Underworld, like how can you even dodge or block in the first stage alone
This one gets better quick as you learn the pattern I think, like knowing when it does that annoying backwards swipe. You might have to do times dashes for some of the AoE though, but the ground circles are at least telegraphed.
Polyphemus : Play patiently, keep distance between you and the boss, and only rush in when you know it's safe. Also, Medea only has a few patterns, you'll get used to them over time
Eris : Stay close and play aggressively, go behind her when she prepares her laser. Try to pop the bombs with your attacks during her phase transitions.
Hecate : When she activates dark side, you can get a couple hits in but you need to get away quickly or you'll get hit by her attack spam. It can deal a ton of damage if you're not careful, definitely her most dangerous move.
Scylla : There's a lot going on, but staying mobile will naturally make you evade a lot of the projectiles. You can kinda run laps around the arena and hit whatever is close.
Scylla kill the drummer ASAP and then just keep dashing around taking out tentacles.
I want to preface this by stating that I have not yet 100%'d the Early Access version.
I have however finished both routed multiple times and seen vastly more of the game than most people around here apparently. The state of the subreddit is kinda wonky in my humble opinion.
Hundreds of threads complaining about this, about that - all while the game fixes those complaints all by itself if people were willing to just trust the process more.
I have just crossed the 20 hour mark, and I have just met several new NPCs, known NPCs get their capabilities expanded, new upgrades just randomly plop up out of nowhere - and noone is talking about that here. Even though they smooth out a lot of Hades 2's rough edges.
For example, one big criticism is that the resource-gathering is a long and artificially limited process, many people wanting to have two tools or even all tools at their disposal at all time.
!Guess what, the game offers several upgrades later on in that game, that increase the number of resources harvested/gathered. They also introduce companions, that fight alongside you. One of their capabilities is to ACT AS TOOL-HOLDERS. In the beginning they can use their corresponding tool just once, but guess what? That you can upgrade as well! Two uses, three uses etc. etc. !<
Meaning, in all my runs right now I miss almost absolutely zero resources, while also getting way more! The resources that are hardest to get are those you pick up by hand. Like Driftwood for example. It is not the problem people make it out to be. Especially since I suspect that aspect gets even more upgrades as I play another 10 hours, considering some upgrades and NPCs I have just met in the 20th hour.
Another thing often talked about is how weird combat feels. And I agree to some extent. Certain boons are utter dogshit while others are so stupendously broken they trivialize runs (Looking at you, Poseidon/Hestia-Duo Boon), and some are weirdly designed yes.
But for the most part people act like there is zero synergy, zero damage etc. And it seems like people do one or two runs and declare a weapon bad, same with boons. - While in reality, everyone just needs to sit their asses down and play Hades TWO - this is NOT Hades 1. Boons and Builds work different, but once you experience good combinations and builds (the>!Chaos Trials!<help immensely with discovering new ideas btw.), you are far from under-powered.
While I agree some numbers are not where they should be, some bosses need significant buffs, other some nerfs etc., the game is by no means unbeatable or difficult or a slog once you get the hang of it. The first step to realize this, its to change your thinking tough. Just because you cant mindlessly spam dashes to evade attacks anymore, doesn't mean Mel's dash sucks. Neither does the Sprint. Yes, it feels weird at first but jesus christ, this is the same discussion we had back when Elden Ring released and some attacks required you to JUMP to dodge them. People were like "Oh but in Dark Souls" - well guess what, put in the hours and you get used to it. Sure it needs fine-tuning but my gosh.
On top of that, even now I have two upgrade / hub things left to unlock that I am sure will further advance my gameplay and take away another set of issues of which there are already virtually none anymore after getting into the game.
People, just remember - EXACTLY like in Hades 1, you have to beat the big bad once or twice for most features to even show up. And then play another dozn runs to utilize most systems at all. Why don't we all just think back to that game. You had to advance in that game a fair bit before some BASIC FUNCTIONALITY became available. - In Hades 2 everyone expects mid-game upgrades from the first game to be granted within the first few hours of playing apparently?
Just chill out guys, its really not that bad. Use the time you spent here complaining whats missing or what isnt working to just advance in the actual game.
Everything not fixed by simply playing more is literally stuff like unfinished assets or regions yet to be added. Its gonna come in due time.
This is a stupid take. The game is in early access. Now is exactly the time not to shut up and give the developer feedback on what doesn't feel good for you and what you'd like improved. It's good that people are complaining. It's good that there's dialogue. Hades II will be good because of people complaining, not in spite of it.
Which is also to say — it’s not impossible. I use my cast in hades 1 maybe once every 5 runs, and I’m almost through every character arc. Sure, it took me longer but the game works well when you learn how to use what you’re good at at maximum efficiency. Same with hades 2
I've literally seen "I can't pause on the last boss? What if an EMERGENCY happens in those exact three minutes? Then I'll LOSE the run! That's an hour WASTED!"
Half of this community hates playing Hades lol.
Completely agree.
There are amazing synergies and now on my 20 or 30th run, honestly not sure, I have amazing builds almost every run.
Also, some of this comes down to "git gud" too. Memorizing attack patterns is always key in these game.
Honestly after just a few fights with Chronos I've practically already memorized his moveset.
Indeed, I'm in the same place as you, first two Chronos encounters were me getting my ass handed on a silver plate, after the third one ? getting to understand his "delayed" attacks that are very visually telegraphed? also this game is harder, Chronos stage 1 + 2 is way harder than Hades stage 1 + 2 and it should be! you just have to sit tight and embrace the ride, this game is amazing
i almost killed him in the first battle i had with him. Poseidon special with the witch’s staff and the double-shot weapon upgrade was just wowza. i just dodged one way wrong and had to RETURN TO SHADOW NOW
It probably because those people think that since the game is in early access, they assumed it would be the “you blow throw everything and melt bosses” kinda unbalanced and hoped they would get a power fantasy kick out of it.
That or they’re too used to being maxed out powerful in hades 1 and aren’t used to being back to square 1
Yeah luckily I stayed away from online hades since the beta was out, as soon as I finished the content available I checked online and it just doesn't make sense.
Speaking of, how do you upgrade those? Haven't beaten the final boss yet so maybe that's why I can't?
Edit: nevermind, just googled how. Man I've done like 30 runs by now and wiped on the last boss 4 times, thinking that id unlock those upgrades after.
For all the people that are blind like me, in the arcana screen you can click on Mel's portrait to spend psyche there to increase your limit.
Why are people coming here having played for 10 hours thinking they can tell everyone what "needs to be fixed"
Because is more frustrating than fun after 10 hours (even for a fan of both the predecessor and the genre in general) that in itself is valuable feedback. I currently do not enjoy hades 2, despite its genuinely phenomenal production value.
The onboarding experience for a game is very, very important. And what many peoples expect out of roguelikes is tinkering with builds and new options that unlock from run to run. The pace of unlocking new features is really, really slow, mostly due to a needlessly wide array of meta-ressources.
Boon-Rooms are far too rare. I love playing with builds. I love winning with OP builds. I love losing with trash builds I tried to get going. Doing something ridicolous with jank builds is probably my favorite passtime in both roguelikes and survivors-games.
However, getting 3 boons by the time you hit the siren fight, one of those being mana-generation, one a worthless loot-related boon offered by poseidon or healing-related boon offered by aphrodite and the third one being the only boon that actually affects your damage/playstyle is... not engaging. And that still happening at the 8 hour mark is not good for the onboarding experience.
The pace of unlocking new features is really, really slow
Thought the same until I hit the ~5h mark.
Now I've got like 3 unlocks after every run.
They 100% are looking at the sub; assuming that this early access is anything like Hades I they watched streamers and read just about every online forum where the game was discussed. Like, they have people whose job it is to just do that and organize the feedback.
But they're also good at designing games, so I trust they will be able to get which parts of the criticism are legitimate (or, rather, what underlying issues the parts that the critics *think* are broken actually reveal, people are basically never right about *why* they don't like something, but as a creator you always listen to *if* they don't like something) and what is not.
Hades was the game that introduced me to the genre, and that’s a pretty high bar to beat. I was on the fence about the sequel, because I usually don’t buy early access, and sequels are often not as good.
But my god, I have been sucked into this one. It’s just so good. The combat is just as fun as ever, the voice acting just scratches my brain in the right way, it’s gorgeous, and I’m just obsessed. It’s hitting that ‘one more run’ mentally for me so hard right now.
Very good game, shame I'm absolutely dog shit at it.
It's so fucking good. They absolutely crushed it. It's probably my #1 or #2 game recommendation of the last decade.
Supergiant is one of a couple devs that I’ll give money to in early access, they’ve proven time and time again that my money is well spent on their games. This one took everything good about the first game and turned it up to 13. They bring out the best in the voice talent (seriously compare Mel and Neyrelle in D4) and the writing is as good as ever.
I haven’t been able to go back to the first game because this one is just strictly better
