TL;DR
Mobility and Positioning
Staying mobile is crucial in Helldivers 2, especially when facing swarms of bugs. It's important to keep moving to avoid getting surrounded and overwhelmed [5:5]. Diving into prone can help extinguish fire if you're burning
[2:1]
[4:1]. Additionally, using the dive button effectively can help you dodge enemy attacks and reposition during combat
[4:1].
Weapon and Equipment Choices
Choosing the right equipment can significantly impact your gameplay. Machine gun turrets are highly effective against bug swarms due to their fast cooldown and ability to divert aggro [5:1]
[5:4]. Anti-tank weaponry is essential for higher-level missions, as it helps deal with heavily armored enemies
[4:2]. The Arc Thrower and Quasar are recommended for specific enemy types, such as bugs and bots
[2:3].
Team Coordination and Resource Sharing
Helldivers 2 emphasizes teamwork, and sharing resources like samples and credits is automatic among teammates [4:3]
[4:4]. Effective communication with your team, whether through voice chat or signals, can enhance coordination and ensure everyone benefits from collected items. Reinforcing teammates promptly when they die is also a key aspect of maintaining team strength
[3:4].
Strategic Use of Stratagems
Rebinding stratagem keybinds away from movement keys allows for smoother gameplay, enabling players to type codes while moving [4:3]. Early game stratagems should not be overlooked, as they provide valuable advantages throughout missions
[4:6]. Utilizing orbital barrage for suppression and clearing objectives can also be beneficial
[5:7].
Avoiding Common Pitfalls
Newcomers should be cautious about joining high-level missions without adequate preparation, as experienced players may react negatively [2:4]. Additionally, it's important to avoid aimlessness during missions and focus on completing objectives efficiently
[3:9]. Understanding enemy weak points and using appropriate weapon penetration can prevent unnecessary struggles
[1:1].
So in light of Helldivers 2 coming to Xbox I thought I'd share the things I've learned from my 900+ hours playing the game. (P.S. these tips won't make you better, their just things most people don't know)
The higher the difficulty of the mission the nicer your teammates will be (Usually). I learned this one when I was bored of level 10 and wanted to go back to simpler missions, I noticed how new players really didn't know about the community and often killed our team for no reason.
If your mission map has the "upload escape pod data" secondary objective, you can land right on it and there will be no enemies even though the game says, "danger - enemy presence". (There are actually enemies on bot mega city maps waiting for you, but only for the city bots for some reason.) This tip isn't game changing but people don't acknowledge it, and it does save a little time.
If you have "SEAF artillery" secondary objective in your mission you should load the mini nuke shell last. Contrary to what most people would do, I load the mini nuke in last because if you have, for instance 1 mini nuke and 4 high yield explosives, and you loaded the mini nuke in first. In this scenario you see a charger and don’t have anything for it, you can ignore it, waste the mini nuke on it, or just not use the SEAF artillery the whole game until you need the mini nuke. But if you loaded the mini nuke in last you can use the high yield explosive on the charger without worrying about wasting a mini nuke. And to top that off, more enemies spawn as you complete objectives. So when you want to use a mini nuke for a big bug horde at extraction, you can just toss it in there. I hope that convinced you to do that.
If you get caught on fire, dive. I learned this one not through in game tips, help videos, or Reddit. I learned this from coincidentally diving while on fire. And I think that is crazy because it’s one of the first things you should know and I see a lot of new players dying to fire by not diving.
And the most important tip of them all. You don't need the best loadout for each faction, just play what you like to play, have teammates, and most of the time you'll extract from a successful mission. At the end of the day, your loadout doesn't matter if you have semi-good teamwork and you should just play what you like the most.
This is my first post on Reddit and I'm not exactly a “good at writing” so forgive me if it's a hard to understand I just really wanted to get this out there.
As someone with 700hrs on this game, I legitimately didn't know that escape pod side objects were literal safe drop zones. Thanks for the info!
Going prone at all will clear up burning.
How about making animations that would broadcast it on choice on TV we got on Orbital Destroyer?
Series of propaga...tfu. educational documents would be so frcking cool.
We could do some tactics ingame, not just blobing the closest to Super Earth planets.
Liberation need tactics!
The Last Tip doesn't work unless you have a ton of game knowledge.
For example if you are running light pen Primary and not know medium enemy weakpoints you are going to feel like you are slogging through the game.
For example Scout Strider with face plate - a new player would think they need to run behind to kill with light pen
But really all you got to do now is shoot the legs. Once the leg breaks it dies.
Or Bile Spewers - LIght Pen from front means you shoot it in the mouth which has a wonky collision box when closed - so you got to aim at it from the side. But that uses tons of ammo at 750 hp.
You are better off using a 2ndary with medium pen and shooting in the head.
Basically more freedom of choice of weapons comes with game knowledge of enemies or you will really feel like the game is a sponge fest of enemies.
That’s fair
I started playing helldivers 2 for the first time yesterday and this game has a hold on me like no other. This game is so enjoyable and I'm so glad my buddies recommend this to me. Any helpful or OP tips for a Newcomer? Any things I should know? Thank you so much in advance!!
What front do you play on?
For bots portable HB will be your best friend. You can also use Anti-tank emplacements for most things (command bunkers, factory striders, war striders, gunships). The stratagem jammer should be your top priority if you see one, they will often impede the other objectives especially without a portable HB. Hulks can be shot with medium piercing at their backs but it will take a while, it's preferred to use an anti tank strategem or heavy armor piercing weapons instead. Aim for their tiny heads. War striders take a lot of bullets with a HMG, so it's better to use a commando, expendable anti tank, or recoilless. you should shoot them in the crotch for maximum payoff. Railgun is also pretty good on this front if you're good at aiming. At difficulty 7+ reinforced striders will spawn, for these you will need medium piercing at minimum for one of your guns. Aim at their crotch as well. The senator can drop them in two shots. Your primary can be light or medium pen but it requires a bit of finesse with light pen. Keep to cover and try to pay attention to enemy fire cycles, you can pop out of cover and kill them if you time it right. Watch out for cannon turrets, they will one shot you without much difficulty. Factory striders have a weakspot under their bellies
if you shoot here with an expendable anti tank or a few commando rounds they will go down instantly at full health, this is risky as approaching the factory strider can get you filled with machine gun rounds so be diligent you know what the strider is up to (focusing you or others)
Incineration Corps requires fire protection, you can play it without fire protection but you'll die pretty quickly if you take damage. Jet brigade troops explode when they're close, be aware of that before you panic shoot them. Besides that i don't have much else advice for this front, feel free to dm me if you'd like a friend to play with : )
Welcome aboard! The Arc Thrower has helped me greatly on bug and squid missions and the Quasar for the bots. Just make sure you’re not around your team if you decide to have some fun with the Arc though.
And if you play regularly and try to hit up all the points of interest on each of your mission playthroughs, you’ll be grinding credits at a decent pace to buy warbonds without having to buy credits with IRL money.
Watch out for joining higher level missions if your on Xbox. The community is pretty nice when playing the easier difficulty levels but once you start doing the like lvl 7 and above people tend to just see the low lvl and Xbox symbol sometimes just kill you for no reason ie. “Your not staying with group” despite me doing side objectives and places of interest and I’m under the impression that difficultly doesn’t scale with player number. Idk could just be a couple of bad games, not trying to rain on your parade at all because it is a really fun game especially with friends, but just my experience.
Ps. Boosters aren’t one time uses so feel free to use whatever ones you like
Some bugs turn invisible. Don't get got.
Diving into prone puts you out when you're burning
Hello Helldivers!
This is an incoming transmission from Super Earth's Department for Unified Combatant Education.
After more than 120 hours spent researching Automaton and Terminid battles our team has come up with a generous list of Tips and Tricks for both newly thawed Helldivers and veteran patriots.
We hope the information our department gathered after so many losses on the battlefield will contribute towards a more democratic and prosperous future for Super Earth!

If you've discovered any other useful tips that are not included in the official SEDUCE document, please feel free to drop them in the comments.
If you leave the extraction area after the timer ends but before the pelican lands you can have air-support from the pelicans auto cannon turret
Is the "peak out the right side of cover when versing robots" tip to do with which side your camera/body is on? If so there is a button (mouse 3 or 4) to switch shoulders
No, it has to do with where the guns are usually located on Automatons. If you hold really close to cover they will usually hit the wall and not your character model just because of the weapon placement they have. (I know about the shoulder switch key binding)
Haha! Thanks for the effort to put this together as well and I will be sure to share this with my fellow Helldivers.
Notice to Super Earth High Command: Please reward all in the Ministry of Research with a complimentary case of Eagle Sweat!
EDIT: (Shipping & handling not included)
It annoys me when I’m out doing objectives or POIs away from the rest of the squad, and one of them dies, and the other 2 players won’t reinforce. I feel bad calling them back in, so far away from their stuff :(
Especially when the dead player keeps pressing the request reinforcement button. It’s like “sure, if you really insist, but don’t blame me for the long walk back”.
I just toss it as far as I can in the general direction and then shrug IRL
how do you cook the grenades? and throw them back the robots's ones?
You cook grenades by holding the throw grenade button. You can throw back the Automaton grenades by running up to the grenade that's about to explode and pressing the interact button.
Twice.
You need to press it twice.
The second button press is important not to forget.
“Don’t slip into aimlessness” should be the #1 tip (at least for some of the people in my group).
Let’s kill the bugs AND get the stuff guys!
I’ve just started playing Helldivers 2 and wanted to ask the veterans here — what are the most important general tips
So don’t be afraid to go around patrols that aren’t alerted. It’ll save you so much time, and reinforcements.
When you go to higher levels, always bring some sort of anti tank weaponry.
Keep your grenades for bug holes/fabricators/space ships, if not you’ll run out of ways to take out objectives at some point.
Get democratic detonation as your first premium warbond.
Rebind your stratagem keybinds to literally anything other than your movement keys. It will pay off quickly as the ability to move and type in the codes is invaluable.
Other than that, as long as the main objectibe is cleared the mission is a success. Also all samples, Requisition Slips, and Super Credits picked up in a mission are shared and it does not matter who picks them up, as long as someone does it.
All samples, credits, everything you can collect during a match is SHARED.
If you die and loose all your samples, then someone else comes and picks them up, extracts with them, YOU STILL GET THOSE SAMPLES. Teamwork is important in this game.
Don't sleep on early stratagems, they are some of the best in the game.
Im lvl 83 and still take the machine gun with me half the time
There's a dive button for a reason! On fire? Dive! Taking fire from enemies? Dive! Feeling less democratic than a usual Tuesday? Dive!
This may be funny but I'm deathly serious.
Also Democratic detonation, cutting edge, and polar patriots are some of the best early game warbonds.
This is the most "subjective" tip I got: play with friends, and if you don't have any, turn your microphone on and find some divers, show your team that you don't know what your doing but the might of managed democracy flows from you, they will do they're democratic duty and support their comrade.
This. This so much. You can't take cover like against bots and sit like on a firing range. Move. Move. Then move some more. Always think that you're getting surrounded. Always check your flanks and rear. If there's a breach on 180° from where you need to go - then go, don't sit and fight it for no reason.
Once my team wasted 5 minutes in a large bug nest we already cleared. Sat through 2 breaches, they wouldn't leave for no damn reason, and I kept dying and being brought back. Wasted all our reinforcements and had to sit out for 4 minutes because they kept dying and we ran out
This, I can never take cover, I can never shake them off, it’s like those fuckers have my scent and never stop pursuing until I kill them all.
…given that Terminids are wild animals, that’s probably unironically the case
wow footage of my last dive. strange in this is am moving fairly fast the mission i was in I had no stimms and was crying like a bitch.
Nothing reminds a Helldiver of his mortality quite like running out of stims
The machine gun turret is your best friend. The fast cool down and med pen is a godsend at diverting aggro and mob clean up. Just make sure you give it distance and tell your team you're calling it in.
The machine gun turret became my new best friend on the Bug front after I learned of its relatively low cooldown and good use against swarms of Bugs.
It either gets me over 20 or even 30 kills at a time or it gets crushed mere moments after deployment by some Charger or another heavy unit, little in-between.
Yep, despite all my hours of gameplay, I still occasionally make the mistake of throwing it too close to the enemies, which gets it crushed by a heavy unit too soon… just my luck.
Orbital Barrage is so good too for suppression
I don't know if you are talking about the Helldivers part or the chickens, but it happened to me as well as a kid, I threw the feed bucket in the air and ran for my life.
So dumb...
Except that everywhere I run about 20 predator strain hunters jump me…
You kinda gotta stumble into objectives while being chased on high level bug missions haha
Jumps on you and calls for backuo
So I bought the game because it looks like lots of fun. Do you guys have any tips for a beginner and how do I matchmake?
Keep spamming matchmaking; it will eventually connect.
Hold R to change weapon settings.
Middle mouse button to aim down sights.
Reloading wastes the rest of the magazine.
Use your stratagems. Use your stratagems. Always be using your stratagems.
Focus on objectives. Don't tunnelvision on enemies you don't need to engage.
Diving gives you super-armor. Dive a lot.
When you reinforce to bring back a player, do it near where they died if you can
The game's so recent that we are all beginners :D
Yeah that’s true :)
Yesterday some random yelled at me because I kept dying to his Tesla Tower, and saying that I have to prone or the tower kills me...
I didn't knew that, why was he yelling? the game is a fucking week old, we don't have to know all that
i found a way to fix the matchmaking, launch a mission on your own (make sure ur crossplay is turned off) and when in the mission call an SOS beacon and return to your ship, now select that same mission again and people will start to join in (works every time)
Check this..might be helpful
If you see a satellite tower, do this objective first, because it then unlocks and shows all the points on the map to visit and get samples/other loot. It's very convenient to have.
If you see a big cannon, do the objective for it. It will require you to load 5 shells into it, and once that is done, you then can use it as a strategem. Also, keep in mind that there are different ammunition shells and each deal different type of damage, so have this in mind before loading the shells in, as once they are loaded, what you put in is what you'll have raining from the sky when you use the stratagem!
Maybe the most easiest one, but if you see blinking beacons nearby, go there to potentially get samples/medals/other loot.
If this was posted before, sorry. I just really love this game, there are so many little details and the gameplay itself is just.. liberating!
EDIT: remembered some more
Try to do your main objectives first, and once they are completed, only then go for side objectives, as you do not need to extract to complete the mission. Of course, without extracting you are not getting samples (I think medals and credits still count), but you still can have success this way.
Use landing pad selection screen to plan your route, as you can see red circles and spots with enemies on that map, your main objective and at least one side objective. This can greatly help you to plan the route and prepare to face enemies accordingly.
1.On the automaton planets you can hijack SAM sites which gives you automatic anti air support that blows up all their reinforcements whenever they show up in the sky. 2.Hell bomb needs to be armed after it lands. 3. Instead of wasting your r points on niche stratagems buy the supply pack and the grenade launcher Which makes the early game much easier. 4.You can kill most bugs easier if you hit the joints(like in starships troopers)5. If you kill the units that call in support quickly they won’t be able to get reinforcements, for the bugs is the unit that excretes brownish gas for the automatons hit the guy who is about to shoot a flare gun(red glowing smoke) take a backup sniper just for those occasions. 6. (Temporary cheat) chargers can literally bug out(pun intended) on higher elevation and stop moving. 7. Take a grenade launcher to clear nests. 8. Always blow up the fabricator buildings with orbital bombardment/eagle etc. 9. Hold the reload button to change firing modes and scope distance. 10. You can use your support strategem grenades to stick on enemies and kill them via drop pods. I am sure there are more things I am forgetting now.I’ll add some later.
Hell bomb needs to be armed after it lands
I ain't got time for this dangfangled "computors," I just shoot the bomb
Got a tip for those bot cannon towers? Was in a match with a couple of 'em yesterday and they were shelling us from across the map. No effect from orbital strikes or ATs, and even when the fabs were blown up they kept going. I landed on top of one and saw its glowing heat sink, will a direct AT hit on that do anything?
You can orbital strike them for sure but my advice is anyway when you see those things to circle around the base because those turrets can’t move. They’re firing arc is extremely limited.
Orbital strikes have to hit it just right it seems like. 4 shots from the recoiless also does the trick, but that's a bit harder to do with the reload time.. and that giant 1-shot sniper tank tower..
8: You can toss a grenade in the roof vents on the front side to destroy the fabricators
Got another tip that I forgot. I don’t know what it is but unless you play a dedicated machine gunner and need the aiming bonus from going prone, I’d totally forego heavy armor right now unless you are in a dedicated role. If you are soloing or in a small squad always use medium or even better light armor. The movement speed buff is invaluable for getting out of sticky situations and the heavy armor doesn’t neglect nearly as much damage to make it worthwhile. Bile spewers, automatons still one shot you regardless. I feel heavy armor needs a bit off a buff honestly because burning all that stamina for a fraction of a second of more sustain against regular goons is simply not cutting it.
Been solo’ing with the grenade launcher and supply pack myself while leveling up and unlocking shit, absolutely busted lmao. Crowd clearing, heavier armor popping, bug nest crumbling spud cannon with potentially 18 reloads and 12 grenades for dicking down everything in your path. Mix that with other things like the 80 sec artillery barrage for offense and the mortar turret on defense and you have yourself some strong solo democracy!
If you see roaming enemies, make sure you kill them all. After a few seconds of them being in combat with you, they will signal an alert which will trigger a big spawn of enemies.
More importantly, you can avoid them and never have the alert signal. Stealth is a thing in Helldivers
Hold R (Square on PS5) to change fire mode (depends on weapon) or change how your flashlight works.
you don't need to extract after doing main objectives .obviously you don't get the extra points , but the mission completed are " successful"
I’ve honestly had more success killing chargers by hitting their legs instead of the abdomen, shoot a well aimed AT round on one of their legs to expose their soft bits and even normal rounds can kill it after
Delete if not aloud,
Going to get into helldivers 2 since it’s dropping on Xbox one in a few days! Just curious on hidden tips and tricks or maybe things most players miss out on the get go? I’ve watched the game on and off/ looked at videos so got a basic understanding of how it works! Thanks in advance🫡
Honestly I wouldn't know where to begin. I'd reccomend Commisar Kai's videos, they explain a lot of the mechanics and stuff about the game that AH expects you to figure out on your own.
The tutorial in-game will get you started and throw you into the action without getting in the way or taking annoyingly long. It sets the tone for the story and the gameplay really well. From there, I recommend diving with friends if you can, but playing with randoms is also totally fine for a beginner.
There's been a ton of threads lately about what we think new divers should know. A few quick searches on the subreddit for things like "Xbox diver tips" will tell you an absolutely massive amount about the game and it's cultural norms.
To expand on this a smidge, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xN7mnq-xj28 is his most recent video that covers a lot of the basics. After that, he has a trio of 'Fight the [faction name here] Like an Expert' videos that cover each of them in more detail.
Appreciate the info, but understanding on don’t know where to begin I know it’s one of them games that have added so much and for people sense day one it’s kinda just normal/ easy to get through what is needed! I’ll definitely check out the pages and YouTube videos, definitely wanna get into it and play something “ new “ to me. I main division 2 and that is getting repetitive and old asf sense I’ve been a day one from division 1
Enjoy the game, clean wipe the map (you’ll want everything), play on a difficulty you can handle. The game is not complex nor that difficult.
Great that’s awesome! Will definitely keep that in mind.
Thx for all the info ! Will definitely look back at this when the time comes
No problem fam, just remember to rate everything 5 stars or you will be investigated for treason.
Remember that samples are shared. It doesn't matter who brings it back to extract, everyone gets the same amount
It will not be releasing on Xbox One from what I’ve read.
Curious on where you seen that at? Just because my Xbox says release date 8/26/25 1am
It’s not on PS4, why do you think they’d release it on Xbox One? The store shows all Xbox games, not just ones available on your console.
i play on Xbox by the way
Follow the tips presented to you, remember your training, and keep an itchy trigger finger in the dive button.
Otherwise, have fun and fight the good fight! Here’s some simple etiquette for new players:
Be nice
Don’t teamkill on purpose, say sorry if you do by mistake, they’ll usually forgive you
All currency pickups are shared by all players
Gems on the map are minor POI’s that contain samples and other goodies like shipping containers that can blown open with a grenade, or bunkers with two buttons that need two players to open
Quick play is your friend, expect that every random person you play with is a friend too!
Pay attention to if your bullet bounces off an enemy. If it does, it took no damage and needs something stronger to kill it
If you hear someone say “hellbomb armed, clear the area” you should probably run away from any loud ticking noise if you can hear it
Red stratagem beacons are usually something you don’t want to be standing near
Dying is a part of the game’s experience, don’t get discouraged, just kill the enemy more than they kill you
If you see a bug rear its head up like it’s about to howl, SHOOT IT. If you see a cyborg point his arm into the air with a red flash, SHOOT IT. If you see a weird floating purple spotlight flash blue, SHOOT IT.
This dude has excellent points!
I would like to also add that you are more likely to survive being too close to an explosion if you are prone. If you don’t think you’re going to get quite clear of an airstrike/ orbital strike/ hell bomb, always dive prone away from it and you might survive.
When you reload, you lose whatever was left in the magazine. This is fine if there’s a lot of ammo boxes laying around and you just wanna top off, but if you’ve only fired a few shots and have most of your magazine left and you’re not looking at a pile of extra ammo, hang onto what you’ve got. You might need it.
Automated Turrets have the Right-of-Way once they start shooting at hostiles. They will not hold fire if friendlies get between themselves and their target.
Some local plants or plant-like organisms can be hazardous. White spikey plants on ice worlds, brown spheres that look like fungus on temperate worlds, and a few other things should be avoided
also remember safety distances for different stratagems, you'll find your own, but a good base line is: 30m-40m for 500kg, 20-30 for airstrike, for cluster... just run while you can, they're extremely unpredictable, 110m rockets, idk, I must've used them twice in my 400 hours of game time, 40-50m for 120mm barrage, 60-70 for 380 and napalm barrage, 30-40 for walking barrages,
but the best baseline is: if it lands remotely near you, run while you can for eagles and pray for barrages
obviously the distances are in meters and are a baseline which you will develop upon according to your Playstyle and how risky you want to be. Also, remember that going prone reduces explosive damage (I think) and you can stim right before taking enormous amounts of damage and you'll be fine as long as you have all your limbs intact
Can confirm am Fren, though I will rage rarely. I will always travel 8km for that left behind sample even though I’m maxed out well I haven’t finished upgrading my ship, but that’s on purpose.
I thought you said you were going blind, and I was about to leave you a list of my best build ideas for people who can't see good lol.
Going in blind, though? I think probably one of the biggest things are not to discount the starter equipment, with the exception of grenades. Machine gun and liberator are both excellent weapons, and the starter warbond has a lot of great stuff in it. The regular grenade you probably will never use again once you unlock impact grenades, though.
Weapon upgrades are new and they're good. You got a lot of progression to make it though, so always try to be using new weapons to level them once you hit 25 with the one you've got.
If you wear the shield backpack, blue strategems sometimes get stuck to it. Find out what button you press to drop your backpack and shrug it off before the pod comes down and kills you, then just pick your gear back up once its safe.
It always pains me whenever I see a teammate die due to my Hellbomb that I armed and keep pinging. It’s never intentional, but I have been kicked because of it.
Have fun! Seriously, take your time and try different weapons to see what you like.
thank you for the advice. i'm surprised how kind this whole community is
To add: there is no 'meta build' Any gun is relevant and if you like it, fk it keep the gun.
Yep, everything makes a noise, but also listen for pings from your teammates, check you hud, or just run away from wherever you heard the que
This is so funny to me. 😂. Yes. But I can only hear it if I’m the one arming it since I’m so close.
Running away is the most powerful weapon you have. You're special forces, not Spartans. Your effectiveness is tactics and firepower, not superhuman size or durability.
Avoiding an engagement is a better strategy than killing every enemy you see. Particularly as the levels go higher, you will get overrun; no reason to bog yourself down faster.
When you do get into engagements, quick and decisive is the goal every time; learn what it looks like when your enemies are trying to call reinforcements, and prioritize killing those calls before they go out. There's a good description in a post above, I won't rehash that here, but it's great advice.
Diving is your second best weapon. Puts out fire, moves even when stunned, helps shake slowdown effects. The training tip about laying down to aim is real; you get reduced recoil and higher accuracy the more stable you are. Prone > Crouched > Standing > Moving, so if you see your enemy when they're still 30-50m out, diving prone to hit headshots at distance can be very effective.
Almost every enemy has a weak point; using them will help you punch WAY above your weight.
Teamwork and coordination will compensate for a lot in terms of lack of skill or equipment. Use the communication wheel if you can't or don't want to use voice. Coordinate your loadout with your fellow divers when possible; every drop over level 4 or 5 should include at least one diver with a dedicated anti-tank loadout, if possible.
Experiment with stratagems and primaries, but not both at once; always have at least one reliable weapon in every drop. Come out of the pod ready to kill.
Currencies are shared; pick up your allies' samples when they die, but leave their gear unless they give you permission. The call-down times on stratagems and support weapons can be pretty significant. The exception is primary weapons; they'll get a new one every time.
And most importantly: Have fun! Welcome to the fight to defend Managed Democracy! o7
Unlike the first game, you really need to genuinely use offensive stratagems to kill larger swarms and enemies. The days of being able to just run through a mission using only your primary and a solid heavy weapon seem to be over. Any enemy tougher than the basic grunts (like bile spewers and some of the tougher warrior strains) can sometimes take an entire magazine or 2 to kill from most primaries, and even many heavies will sometimes struggle unless you hit them in a weakspot. This is compounded by the fact that ammo seems harder to successfully manage than ever.
Even chargers (which you will see a dozen of in any particular mission after difficulty 5+) can easily tank several Recoiless Rifle rounds unless you hit them in particular spots, and even then, they will still most likely take 2 at least, which used to be a feature only the toughest enemies in Helldivers 1 could pull off, and only rarely at that.
Things like bombs and strafing runs are definitely a must instead of just a "nice to have."
if you're having trouble with ammo, the supply backpack + supply drops having a 2 minute cooldown should keep you covered for all your liberation needs
Also, there's a booster available early in the free warbond that makes you come out of the pod with a full stock of primary and secondary ammo, and you can use samples to buy an upgrade that makes all support weapons fall fully stocked as well. Really seems to decrease resupply needs.
You can use a stim on a fellow Helldiver if they’re health is critical.
as the helldiver manual states; FRIENDLY FIRE ISN'T
Lots of you probably already know but i found it by accident and figured I'd probably never find out about it, but holding the reload button lets you alter weapon functionality
Yeah they stink, especially when solo. That being said, I've found that moving to either side constantly will help avoid the initial blast killing you instantly and give you time to dive. I also have found that the expendable rocket will almost 1 shot them, and it's on a pretty low cd as well.
My hot tip is to not stand near my location when I am using the flamethrower. I'm not responsible for where the winds of democracy blow my liberating flames.
And a carryover from the first game… IF you get lit on fire, hit the deck! Diving puts out flames!
Ngl Im glad the game doesnt constantly hold your hand with obtrusive tool tips and pop ups. Most of the tips in here are just things like actually looking at the games settings or key bindings to see what does what. Now the lore perspective is that the training you received is just institutionally bad considering we’re more disposable fodder and less highly trained special ops.
I have come to realize that yes, their face is definitely the way to kill them fast instead of their thorax, (which is weird since most other bugs don't particularly care if you hit them in the head, and some can still move around and attack without it. You also seemingly get "critical hit" markers for hitting their thorax, but not the head) but honestly that seems pretty unreliable outside of shotguns. Their head is really small and aiming on console isn't really known for it's preciseness, especially in the heat of combat, and that's assuming you even have an angle to hit their head in the first place. The rest of their body is so bloated that it basically prevents headshots from anywhere but their front, in which case, you are probably about to get gooped on.
Yeah, cooldowns are much less of a problem than they were in Helldivers 1 IMO. There are some really strong stratagems that can clear a horde on a cooldown of slightly longer than a minute, and that's without upgrades. The fact that they also all have infinite uses instead of only specific ones makes them even more spammable. The new game definitely encourages their usage on a frequent and offensive basis. At most you might want to save one for a surprise bug breach or something, but outside of that, let those buggers loose.
