TL;DR
Playing Higher Difficulty Missions
One of the most effective ways to level up quickly in Helldivers 2 is by playing higher difficulty missions. Players have noted that missions at levels 9 and 10 offer the highest XP payouts [1:3],
[2:5]. However, these missions can be challenging, so it's important to balance the need for XP with your ability to complete the missions successfully. Some players suggest finding a difficulty level where you feel comfortable and gradually increasing it as you become more skilled
[2:1].
Team Up with Other Players
Teaming up with other players, especially those who are higher level, can significantly aid in leveling up. Playing in a group not only makes it easier to tackle difficult missions but also allows you to learn from more experienced players [4:1],
[5:6]. Many players in the community are willing to help newcomers, and forming a squad can make the game more enjoyable and rewarding
[1:1],
[2:2].
Efficient Mission Completion
Efficiency is key when trying to level up quickly. Completing missions swiftly while focusing on the main objectives can maximize your XP gain. For example, using strategic tools like mortars can help clear enemies faster [4:3]. Some players recommend running extermination missions as they can be completed quickly and provide good XP
[3:1].
Community Support and Tips
The Helldivers 2 community is known for being supportive and helpful. New players often find valuable tips and strategies shared by others in the community [2]. Engaging with the community through forums or in-game can provide insights into effective leveling strategies and help you connect with potential teammates
[5:7].
Enjoy the Journey
Finally, it's important to enjoy the process of leveling up. While reaching higher levels can unlock new content and abilities, the journey itself is part of the fun. As one player mentioned, the difference between lower and higher-level players isn't significant in terms of gameplay mechanics, so focus on enjoying the missions and the camaraderie of playing with others [2:3],
[2:7].
Hello, I recently downloaded helldivers 2 a few days ago and I’m level 22. I’m trying to level up more and basically just unlock some stuff but I keep getting kicked from missions (I’m guessing because I’m a low level). I’m not good enough to do the 9’s and 10’s alone but I want to get more rewards. I was wondering if I can make some new friends just to play with whenever I’m on and help me level up a bit, it’s okay if not! 😁
You won’t get very huge increase in rewards from 9-10 compared to below. Slow but stable cleaning of 7 missions and PoIs there will get you further than chaotic 9-10 where you’ll worry for dropped samples and dye even more trying to pick them up
I agree. After my 500 hours on this game, I think level 7 is the sweetspot for both good action and scavenging the whole map for loot.
I quite enjoy those, having multiple samples on me as I flee for my life from the bile titans. I mainly want to to level up though and get the requisition points or whatever they are called to unlock everything, and I know the higher the mission, the higher the increase.
Add me and we can play, Same username on Steam / in-game. If your not on PC im not sure how adding works cross-platform.
I've been playing since the 26th, around level 34 I think. Still learning too but I've had a few successful super helldives.
If you want to level up fast, go do Lvl9 or Lvl10 Illuminate missions. Their faction just appeared, so they don't have all the units deployed right now and the missions are super easy on Lvl9 and Lvl10.
Thank you so much! Is it possible to do the 9’s and 10’s solo, or do you think it’s best I take someone with me?
I would take someone with you, but solo is possible if you are determined. Take the machine gun turret and guard dog and you'll be golden.
Got the game for Xmas and I'm level 23 so will add your code tonight 👍
Thank you!

Playing ps5 pro in the UK, normally on in the evenings if anyone wants to add me. Only got the game for Christmas so level 26 and playing around difficulty 6/7 at the minute
Thanks!
In SE language is spelled FRENDS
Don't worry it's an old community meme, I don't want to explain it to you because explained jokes are never funny, but i'm sure that searching "frend" on this sub you will find the og joke. I'll search myself, but I'm not very agile with sharing links on reddit mobile
Just wanted to say I recently got Helldivers 2 on PS5 and this is the nicest community I've ever experienced! (In game and flicking through the subreddit)
Everyone I've played with has been so helpful, giving tips etc. Loads of people have let me try out their gear etc.
It's been incredible! Not played a game with this nice a community since maybe Titanfall 2
One question I do have though is how do I level up fast? I don't want to do anything too grindy (ie. Taking the fun out of the game) but I just wanted some levelling up tips etc.
Happy to have you join the fight Helldiver. Like others have said of course the highest difficulty and completing most of the mission objectives will give you alot of xp. If you have the time and energy play highest difficulty but theres nothing wrong with a chill and quicker lvl 5 if that's what you want to do. Every mission from 1-10 helps with the war effort. As long as your having fun and doing your part it'll happen naturally. May liberty forever shine in your favor.
Your level will increase naturally as you play... don't worry about that...
and after level 25, everyone is practically equal... you already have access to all the strategies... the difference is the warbons and the ship upgrades...
and in practice, there's no difference between a level 1 and a level 150 player... if both use the Liberator Rifle and the starting BP-01 armor... they're both exactly the same, they die exactly the same... there's no gain in HP, resistance, or anything else...
Lvling is easy Just tryna climb up the levels from trivial to superhell dive, find the difficulty where you’d considered it as chilling, then just hangout there until you feel like you need a lil bit of umf then you climb up. lvl 10 Helldiver have the highest exp payout.
I remember I used to hangout at lvl 5 then slowly to lvl7 And now finally at lvl 10.
Ahhhh okay so xp increases with lvl (to a point?)
Not really, higher lvl high payout. But don’t forget to put in the chill factor and the fun factors. If playing higher lvl giving you no chills and no fun then there’s no point going harder until you’re comfortable with it if not a lil bored with it. Don’t worry bud, I had seen lvl21 fighting in lvl10 before and usually they did great!
Playing higher difficulties is the fastest way.
Don’t be in a rush. The journey is 25.6% of the fun.
TLDR: Run easy or trivial missions as fast as possible: This means running the extermination missions.
Thank you.
Not watching a 9 minutes video just to get spam this mission.
Up vote for posting the TLDR
Leveling Guide
This guide will help you to be able to level up and gain a lot of XP fast in Helldivers 2. I highly recommend you do this in a group and if possible try to play with people who are higher levels that can bring you into more higher difficulties. On average you should be able to complete the missions in anywhere between 2-6 minutes depending on how efficient your group is at clearing the automatons. Personally I have earned up to 1.3k XP in 2 minutes in one mission.
Recommended Stratagems:
The mortar is a must have in this mission as the automatons will hardly be able to ever get to it with it able to devastate the automatons trying to come from the lower level of the map. Just make sure to place it on the upper area of the mission.
Method
Good luck out there soldiers and keep fighting for Super Earth!
(If you have any suggestions, or altercations that can improve effectiveness of this please, let me know)
Do be aware that if you do this method and don’t complete the whole operation, it dosent count towards liberation of sectors. Not a big deal but try to do the whole operation.
A dev on the discord said this is not true.
They said it does not give negative impact but there is also no positive one
this works very well a tip is place your mortars only when the first bot ship lands so the mortars last till the end
t
Good luck out there soldiers and keep fighting for Super Earth!
Who wanna help a level 6 like me do this? 🫥🫥🫥🫥🫥🫥🫥🫥🫥
Can't find these missions, but if anyone figured it out and wants to team up to do some fast level ups I am down! I'm on ps and since there's that damn pc glitch I can only team with my fellow ps users until the patch.
Who wants to team up? I just got to level 9. I'd like to play later today if anyone's down. I'm a good teammate and a great follower and supporter. I got a mic and ready to eradicate some bugs!
Inbox me for my tag let's get a team of four!
What’s the glitch? I’ve been playing cross platform
I bought helldivers 2 on pc a few months back played it for 40 mins I did not realy know what to do so I left it for a later date.
I sold my pc recently so I picked it up again for my xbox yesterday said I would give it another go.
I am after getting to level 10 and a person I played with helped me with information on how to play.
So I got into it.
Have to say I think it's a good game and i injoy it and anyone thinking about getting it go for it.
I ended up getting it and giving it another go from the feed back I got here from you guys on a previous post thanks 👍🏻
Shoot me a DM when you're online (I'm GMT+1), we can swap friend codes and squad up if you like.
I want to play sooooo bad. Money has just been so tight at the moment. Been playing the hell out of Darktide to satisfy my co-op pve itch. If none of you have played it, give it a try, totally took me by surprise
The game is really hard to understand at first. I kept doing solo mission on trivial difficulty and being like “is this it?” and wondering what order I was supposed to do the missions in, because nothing is explained to you.
Need a experienced team mate helps alot to learn how to play when u get into it it's good 👍🏻
It’s been my favourite game since the day it released on PS5. Wellcome to the war!
🫡
Same, bought it on pc,played like 15 min when my cousin showed me how to play (he is 10 fyi) and didnt touch the game for months, and when a tried like a week ago didnt know what to do,why Helldivers is so conplicated in comparison to other online games (Destiny 2 The Division 2)
You should play with someone that can help you with info that's what I did and now I like it when I know kind of what to do
So I can get this game now, but my buddy won’t be able to play it until/if it ever comes to GFN. And my basic question is, would I end up OP or is there any kind of leveling mechanic if I started playing now on my own? It’s a shame since I can see it’s not nearly as fun as a solo/random but I’m dying to try it. But tbh id rather just wait if I’d outlevel him or something. Playing through GoW was some of the best times we had and this game looks as if it would fill that void.
The progression is mostly unlocking new gear and stratagems. You'll get a few passive upgrades for your ship but those won't dramatically sway difficulty. You can simply choose to only use gear your friend has unlocked to make sure you're both roughly the same in terms of power scaling.
Cool, thanks. I think I have to jump in solo just to see what it’s all about
Leveling up just gives you more options. A weapon does the same damage on a level 1 player as it does in a level 50 player. The level 50 just has more weapons available.
Nice!
sony keeps a stranglehold on their games, theres like a 90% chance it never comes to GFN so just play the game
I'm a solo player, not going for lfg's cos most of the ones i saw want someone with a higher rank so whats he best/fastest way to get xp?
It's not about your rank Cadet! It's about sticking it to the enemy and spreading FREEDOM. The fight isn't a pump and dump you need to get done with faster. It's a long journey to purifying the universe of anti-democratic scourge. Just have fun out there soldier and the more successful you are the more your rank will raise to reflect it!!
High ranking missions, idk if you’ll get as much as play with a group but if u can do solo helldive lvl missions you’ll certainly rank up fast
I'll try, ty <3
Just play anything above suicide level you'll level up pretty fast
You're not going to get anything by yourself. Remember, you're not alone in the fight for Freedom!. Do not go alone!
I love this community already
Since the difference between the high and low difficulty is not that much I figured this might be the fastest way to level:
Stratagems needed:
1- Mortar Turret
2- Gatling Turret
Steps:
1-Select an easy brood commander mission.
2-Drop in-between the extraction and the marked location.
3 Check the minimap, the brood commander is always in the red highlighted area.
4- Run close to the red area throw down the 2 turrets and head to extraction.
The mortar will lure the brood the gatling will rip it apart and 9 out of 10 times the mission will complete before you even reach the extration.
God speed helldivers !
People are obsessed with "leveling" as if there is some destination you have to get too. All there is at the "end game" is more of what you've been playing. So why not enjoy the journey? The gameplay IS the destination.
Congratz, you've just reached level 20. Now you're stuck with the shield and the railgun for the remaining 30 levels. Great fun!
Better enjoy the journey indeed and keep the grinding part for when there are actually rewards to grind for.
its also highly deceiving. Great, now you are lvl 20 without any shit unlocked and definitely no ship upgrades. I'd rather bring a naturally leveled 10er than another "booster" who has no idea how to actually play the game.
You're wrong man.
I powered to 18 quick, and now I'm soloing on difficulty 7.
Certain upgrades make the game so much easier.
The same upgrades make you farm samples INFINITELY faster.
Enjoy being level whatever you are, with nothing unlocked.
Nice! Blah blah haters gonna hate. I LOVE taking 40 minutes on a run and finding everything. But I don't LOVE playing with my buddies that play all the time and have all the cool shit while I'm still level 5. I can grind and get the cool shit and enhance my fun.
Exactly why I found myself here. My buddies have more time to play than I do, but if I can hop on and catch up in levels real quick so I'm not lvl4 when they're lvl 16, it's a win
Just play the game. There is no reason to have to jam levels as fast as possible, you will eventually cap out and have it all anyway.
You will hit a wall with ‘turret defender’ when you progress beyond space cadet. Being a 1-trick pony that prefers low risk, low reward, will still gain levels, and slowly unlock stratagems at a tedious rate. The solo strat that transcends to co-op is what I call: “infiltrator”. This long range load out uses high ground and avoids protracted engagements, relying on specific strategems to clear objectives. On a fireteam, they scout and complete remote objectives, so the rest of the fireteam doesn’t have to trek all over the map. Clever use of the jump pack is their bread and butter. Mines are far better than gun turrets for low and flat terrain zones of exclusion, while the gun turrets are much better on high ground or used in pairs to defend one side of a drop zone. The mortar is a real liability for you and your fireteam if used for anything other than bombardment. Talking bug holes or fabricators inside a fortified position, where you need to hit emplacements/eggs/masses and mitigate the steady stream of spawns without good line of sight. Reckless use of stratagems that can get your fire team killed, is something you grow out of, not double down on by calling it a solo strat.
I can't get this to work. Since there are always 2 brood commanders in a mission. When i go to one red spot (where one brood commander resides) I drop my turrents but I cant get the second one to aggro. How'd you mange it?
Your approach to leveling up swiftly in solo maneuvers embodies the very essence of liberty, enabling us to spread freedom and democracy to every corner of the cosmos. This is the kind of innovation and dedication that defines a true Super Earth citizen. It’s through strategic minds and valiant hearts that we pave the way for a brighter future under the flag of Managed Democracy. Keep leading by example, and let your actions inspire fellow Helldivers to strive for greatness. Together, we’re not just fighting for survival; we’re fighting for the values that make our society worth protecting.
Carry on, Helldivers, for Super Earth!
What the heck this is like the least toxic mp game ever.
Like last night I stopped paying attention and suddenly the one guy plugged in his mic to ask VERY POLITELY that I reinforce the squad.
It is. I joined my friends yesterday while they were doing something like this. I play this game to have fun not systematically unlock everything while not having fun
So I have about 30 hours in the game and I’m only level 14. And some people are like level 80-90. And I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong because I’ve been playing difficulty 6 and 7 constantly and doing all objectives and barely leveling up. Do I just need to grind a lot or am I missing something?
150 lvl here 800 h played . Just enjoy the dive. The lvl will come in no time if you will protect the Democracy
Level 127 here, you're not doing anything wrong. Just keep diving and most of all have fun in the name of democracy.
i have 130 hours played and im at level 57, it just takes a lot of time to reach those higher levels
Level 150 took me 500 hours.
Just play what difficulty you find fun and dont worry about levels too much. You'll have everything available to be unlocked by level 25.
Level 150 here. Took me hundreds upon hundreds of hours to reach this point. It does take a good long while.
Level basically doesn't matter past 25, though. Before then, certain stratagems require certain levels to use, but that's the highest level any stratagem currently in the game requires (I think it's the exosuits specifically.)
Best practice for XP while playing normally is to complete all objectives, side objectives, and clear every outpost before extracting with all four players boarding the pelican. This will earn you the most XP, requisition slips, and samples.
Technically you can earn XP faster by target-farming the shorter duration missions like Eradicates and Blitzes, but I don't think it's worth giving up the fun of the normal missions to do this.
HIgher difficulties also offer increasingly larger amounts of XP and requisition slips. It'll take you longer to reach 25 if you're only diving level 4 missions than it would if you were diving 7s, and diving 8s or 10s would go even faster -- provided you can actually reliably complete those missions in a reasonable amount of time, anways. If you fail them often enough and/or take too long to clear them, it's just faster to run a lower difficulty where you succeed more reliably and quickly.
There is currently a bug some people are experiencing in terms of XP. I don't know if it applies to 7s or just 10s, and I don't know if it applies to all missions or just Eradicate missions, but I do know that a few folks (myself included) have been getting less XP than we should on level 10 eradicates.
I’ve sunk way too many hours (and sleep) into Helldivers 2 already, and it’s been an absolute blast. This is the kind of game I’ve been waiting for, but I was hesitant to buy it at first due to budget constraints. After watching from the sidelines for a while, I finally took the plunge—and I’m so glad I did. The gameplay loop is addictive, the monetization feels fair (I’ve already bought a couple DLC packs to support the devs), and the over-the-top Starship Troopers-esque propaganda is hilarious yet weirdly immersive.
Coming from Warframe, where things eventually felt trivial and repetitive, Helldivers 2 has been a breath of fresh air. The difficulty curve, in particular, has been interesting. I was expecting a steeper challenge at higher levels, but by level 15, I was surprised at how manageable Difficulty 10 missions felt. Don’t get me wrong—it’s still fun, and I’m not asking for everything to be a brutal slog—but I hope the devs keep the high-end content rewarding for players who want that extra sweat. (Destiny 2’s Grandmaster Nightfalls were a personal favorite of mine for that reason.)
That said, I’m really enjoying the game so far and excited to see where Arrowhead takes it. The core experience is solid, and I’m happy to support it. Devs, if you’re reading this—keep up the great work, and please don’t let power creep or kneejerk balancing ruin the challenge for those of us who thrive on it!
*edit* just solod my first difficulty 10. Will post it to Youtube as proof.

Pro tip: when you start to get bored, change up your loadout and use the bad stratagems and weapons. You might find that some of them are actually underrated and significantly change your playstyle. This might sound obvious, but legitimately so many people burn themselves out on this game just because they stick to a single loadout they like.
…how tf are you already rank 41 whilst only being 5 days in 😭
But yeah… Helldivers 2 is a masterpiece… saying anything else would be traitorous😉
By playing difficulty 10 :)
How to level up in Helldivers 2
Key Considerations for Leveling Up in Helldivers 2
Complete Missions: Focus on completing missions, as they provide experience points (XP) essential for leveling up. Prioritize higher-difficulty missions for greater rewards.
Team Coordination: Play with a team to maximize efficiency. Communication and coordination can help you tackle tougher challenges and complete objectives faster.
Utilize Loadouts: Experiment with different loadouts and weapons to find what works best for your playstyle. Upgrading your gear can significantly improve your performance in missions.
Engage in Events: Participate in special events or challenges that may offer bonus XP or unique rewards. These can provide a significant boost to your leveling progress.
Explore and Collect: Take the time to explore each map thoroughly. Collecting resources and completing optional objectives can yield additional XP.
Focus on Objectives: Prioritize mission objectives over kills. Completing objectives often grants more XP than simply defeating enemies.
Recommendation: To level up efficiently, consider forming a regular squad with friends or reliable players. This will enhance your gameplay experience and increase your chances of success in tougher missions. Additionally, always keep an eye on your gear and upgrade it as you progress to ensure you're well-equipped for higher-level challenges.
