World and Exploration
Hogwarts Legacy offers a rich and immersive world that captures the essence of the Harry Potter universe. The game is praised for its expansive environment, allowing players to explore various locations beyond Hogwarts itself [5]. However, some players feel that the game focuses too much on areas outside of Hogwarts, detracting from the experience of being at the iconic castle
[3:4]. The exploration aspect can be overwhelming initially, but once players become accustomed to the navigation system, it becomes an enjoyable part of the gameplay
[5:1].
Combat System
The combat system in Hogwarts Legacy has received mixed reviews. Some players find it repetitive and lacking in depth, with enemies acting as damage sponges and requiring little skill to defeat [3]. The reliance on cycling through spell wheels can make combat feel monotonous
[3]. Despite this, others appreciate the simplicity of the combat, noting that the Harry Potter series isn't traditionally focused on fighting prowess
[3:2].
Gameplay Mechanics and Quests
The game includes various mechanics and quests that contribute to its overall experience. While some players enjoy collecting items and exploring the map, others find these tasks tedious after a while [3:2]. There are criticisms regarding certain gameplay elements, such as the Alohomora mini-game and the lack of penalties for using unforgivable curses
[3:1]. Additionally, the absence of meaningful class interactions and house loyalty has been noted as a missed opportunity
[3:8]
[3:11].
Narrative and Immersion
Players have expressed a desire for more narrative depth and character interaction. The ability to cast a Patronus and engage with dementors, as well as side quests involving other magical characters, are among the suggestions for enhancing immersion [3:3]. The game's narrative could benefit from a stronger connection to Hogwarts and its inhabitants, allowing players to feel more integrated into the wizarding world
[3:6].
Overall Experience
Despite some criticisms, many players find Hogwarts Legacy to be an enjoyable experience, particularly due to its captivating world and soundtrack [5]. The game provides a sense of nostalgia and excitement for fans of the Harry Potter series, with the potential for future improvements and expansions in sequels
[5].
Would be nice if we finally got this character roster, 7 character debate over and done with.. proper confirmation of how many characters there is. I assume this won't be an alpha build your playing, sounds like it could be the a snippet of the game?
Agreed. I’m still feeling slight hope it may have just been a misunderstanding
Yeah it's really bizzare they haven't yet clarified if there's more than 7 or on the flip side reaffirmed it's only 7
What’s the gliding like? Is it like flying in past games or is it something completely new
Do suits have different abilities or are they purely cosmetic
Can you switch to bruce and do any mission as him, as in is bruceman % possible.
How similar is the combat to Arkham’s free flow combat? Can you counter and use gadgets?
I understand that they can't do it for new movies, but it would have been a great addition to all these franchises they've been covering. Alien vs Predator, Superman, Fantastic Four would be even better episodes of it had more audience interaction. Really hope Tim considers brining it back at some point
I always skipped through those segments. Especially when it go to the point that someone was writing haikus that were like 30 lines long.
I'm no poetry expert, but is it still a haiku if you string 5 of them together?
Yeah there was this one fellow who would write in like 5-6 haikus summarizing the plot. Got old pretty quick lol but I miss the segment generally.
i hated it lol.
Haha. Honest same. Sorry everyone, I’m not looking to hear from you all 😜
i’ll be honest, completely forgot they existed until you brought it up just now but i do miss andy singing the song
Only thing is they don't do patreon write-ins anymore since they have several platforms that do memberships, and superchats have really strict character limitations (it'd be tough to fit a haiku into anything that costs less than $20)
They could do it like you're wrong though and pick the top three submissions or something.
Oooo Seven syllables in the middle
with 5 on the first and last line!
if you're not poetic,
no need to fret it,
haikus don't need to rhyme!!!
Haiku in review
Complete redesign of the combat system
I found combat extremely repetitive, while being at the same time most of the game's content in terms of gameplay. Enemies were damage sponges and required little to no skill to fight. Most of the gameplay is cycling between spell wheels to find spells that are not on cooldown to use. IMO, this is absurdly boring.
It's called HOGWARTS legacy
After the 4th hour mark, I feel like the game kind of forgot Hogwarts existed, with the vast majority of the quests afterwards taking place in various places in the game's map, which were all beautiful truth be told, but part of the appeal of a game in the HP universe, is being able to explore the magic of the Hogwarts castle. Tying quests into it, makes it even better.
i agree on the second part a lot, like either make the castle bigger or put more quests there, Hogwarts Legacy felt like a collect-items game(like explore the map to get all the parchments that have lore about the world, which was fun at first, but got bored with it very fast)
the combat is repetitive and incredibly linear...but i'm okay with it, if you saw the movies or read the books, HP isn't much focused on being a good "fighter", the power-scaling is messed up by coincidences, luck and prophecies(you really think Harry that struggled with learning ACCIO, had a chance to fight properly Voldemort? Harry won due to external circumstances, prophecy, the elder wand not being compatible with Voldy. I don't see Harry doing anything even closer to what Dumbledore did in the fifth book/movie against Voldemort)
I do wish we have more mysteries and quests where you solve mundane situations(see hogwarts mystery's side-quests), i don't ask for romances, but for more present friends at least.
Personally, I’d like to be able to cast a patronus and battle dementors. I think it would fun if the decisions you make leading up to learning the patronus would determine what shape your patronus takes.
I’d also like side quests where you can play as other magical characters like a house elf or a centaur. Maybe even one of Hogwarts’ ghosts. I just think that would be fun.
I’ve heard the sequel is going to take place during Harry’s time at Hogwarts. I sincerely hope not. Rowling created a vivid, expansive world. I want to continue to explore it as part of a new adventure. I feel that we’ve had enough of Harry and his friends.
I hope so too, but from what I've read, WB is probably pushing the release of the game to close if not on top of the upcoming HBO show, to create hype and synergetic marketing. That being said, I find it somewhat doubtful that they'd want to have the game and the show taking place at the same time.
Fully agree on the Hogwarts part….i beat the main ranrok quest so now im just going around trying to get xp to level up for the house and i haven’t even been back to hogwarts in days because there’s nothing left to do there..super bummer
Each semester should have new quests/puzzles
Yeah, checkpoints in the story releasing some of the content so you don't have everythign open at once in the castle would be great!
Coming to think of it, the idea that players should be able to do anything at any time is causing much of the criticism I've seen. Running around the castle at night, almost never going to class, leaving the school for long times to do whatever, walking into people's homes to steal their stuff, casting Unforgivables in front of teachers etc etc
We disnt even get the OWLs im still mad classes were basically nothing
Having played earlier HP games, I knew that classes would be next to nothing and to be honest, I can't think of a way to make them entertaining while still being close to what a class at Hogwarts would be like. Who'd want to sit for an extended amount of time in a class and hearing a random teacher talk instead of going out and experiencing what the game has to offer?
There are lots of complaints like Alohomora mini game being repetitive for no reason whatsoever. There are supposed to be curfews but they apparently don't apply to MC except during specific quests. Later you can go to the same areas and walk around freely. There is no penalty for using unforgivable curses, but MC's friend is being criticized for using them. There is no house loyalty whatsoever. It is very odd to be enabled, and even asked by the groundskeeper to break into professor's offices, neighborhood houses, etc.
To me I would feel better about the entire thing if we were playing as an auror. At least then it would feel better being asked by adults to go into a dangerous area that they are afraid to go into. An adult also wouldn't abandon a teenager in a dangerous area, they would escort them out.
Really, the lack of human interaction is the worst part of the game. You have a friend who loves beasts and you cannot show her your vivariums. School is almost an afterthought, just a cut scene followed by a quest. You can go into the great hall, but cannot sit down to eat. I understand there not being romance, although they are teenagers and you would expect there to be at least something (they should still keep it clean, though).
Well, putting HOGWARTS in the title and having the castle present is a great way of attracting potential customers, but I do agree with your idea of an auror protagonist. If the devs believe they can deliver a good product without needing hogwarts to carry sales, they should do so.
I agree, they should have expanded that you could interact more with your “friends” and take them with you on the quests by choice. Definitely, it not mattering if your moral compass/ level changes by the decisions you make either was a missed opportunity too.
it's come to my attention that reddit is compressing uploads? so here are the same uploaded to imgur, enjoy!

So I bought Hogwarts Legacy when the game first came out and got to level 14ish which isn't very far in the main story. I must have been overwhelmed with how much there is in the game and occupied with other games at the time. I just picked this game back up last week and made it a goal to finish it this fall and wow. I am blown away by the world, the soundtrack, and honestly the game play is fairly decent. I am very excited to finish this game and see what's next for the sequel!

When I first got the game, I had serious issues with the navigation. The yellow line would tell me to go through a door. I would go through the door and the yellow line would immediately tell me to go back through the door. I almost quit the game over this…
So glad I didn’t. Once I finally got out of the castle and I figured out the Floo Network, I’ve had so much fun. I’m currently on my third playthrough. Almost done and I will immediately start my Gryffindor save to complete all the saves.
mine is doing this too!!
even redownloaded the whole game and it’s still broken
I read that there is a file missing so maybe redownload?
I did it immediately after this message appeared, but nothing helped
Oh i dont know then sorry!
Try verifying files assuming this is through steam. Restart system after (restart not shutdown)
yeap, that still doesn't work. Strangely enough, many people with a similar problem had an antivirus installed that was in conflict with the file, but even here it passed by. I checked everything, replaced the antivirus, and added everything I could to the exceptions. The problem still remains the same.
In general, I read that the only working way is to launch the console from steam, and download the game files from there before the summer 2024 update. Cause then they added this plugin, without which the game does not work. The Win 11 update also affects it (but in my opinion this is not the main problem, since there is a fix) I haven't tried it yet, I'll try to do it all later
In mint condition. Barely used with no scratches Selling for 3000+shipping Also ok to trade it for some other games. Mainly looking for these only- Mariokart 8 deluxe, Switch sports, Pokemon violet, Pokemon snap, Pokmon diamond and pokemon sword
It's selling brand-spanking-new for 3149 on Amazon lol
Flipkart has it for 2.9k
2600 for brand new at sheenu game centre.
If you don't mind buying digital, its dirt cheap there too
Yes, the Dark Arts Arena alone is worth it (every bit of free XP counts when OWLs are close) and the drip is nice. Bought the game a few days ago, currently doing my second playthrough, would recommend the DLCs.
Oh wow, you played through it fast!
Wish my uni schedule would allow such xd
Reading comments here, if the dlc are just cosmetics and no actually new feature or spell, sounds pointless
if i remember right theyre just cosmetic items, you can look them up online to see if you like them and are willing to pay for them
The only issue I've had looking stuff up online is trying to sort past all the "cancelled dlc" post xd
Ya there is no dlc for this game. Those deluxe packs are just some cosmetic items which...unless you think you're going to wear them all game, not worth 2 dollars in my opinion. There's much better and cooler cosmetics as you progress through the game
They are just cosmetics. Pretty neat ones though for a couple of bucks. You did get one extra quest out of it as well.
That seems alright given it's basically the price of tax rn xd
They're cosmetic items, I think but it's only a $2 difference, so might as well, right?
Yeah, for that cheap it’s practically free
Especially if the entire thing is gonna cost you 14 bucks. You’re getting an amazing deal.
Growing up watching the Harry Potter films in theaters and rewatching the series countless times, stepping into Hogwarts Legacy instantly brought back memories of my childhood. Hogwarts feels alive, with winding corridors, secret passageways, and countless nooks to explore. The surrounding areas, from the Forbidden Forest to Hogsmeade, are beautifully realized, and fast travel and broom flight make traversing this vast world genuinely fun. Exploration is rewarding; every hidden room or mysterious creature adds to the sense that Hogwarts is a living, breathing place. Puzzles are challenging but fair, and the variety of spells keeps gameplay engaging. Beast capture and breeding tie in nicely to the Fantastic Beasts lore, and customizing the Room of Requirement and upgrading your gear adds a sense of ownership. Flying on a broom is smooth and exhilarating, though it’s disappointing that Quidditch is absent.
The game isn’t without frustrations. Bugs and lagg load times frequently break immersion, and combat quickly becomes repetitive, relying on a small set of spells and dodges. The story has its moments but lacks surprises and connection to the main Harry Potter narrative, leaving fans hoping for meaningful character interactions underwhelmed. Enemy variety is limited; I wanted more encounters with Dementors, snakes, or Thestrals. Collectibles, side quests, and puzzles are fun at first but can feel overwhelming if you aim for 100% completion.
Despite these flaws, Hogwarts Legacy delivers a rich, magical world any Harry Potter fan can lose themselves in. It captures the wonder of Hogwarts while letting players craft their own story and explore a universe that feels alive. While technical issues and repetitive gameplay hold it back, the joy of exploring the wizarding world makes the experience memorable.
Rating: 8.5/10 – A magical, immersive world that captures Hogwarts but is held back by bugs, repetitive combat, and a story that doesn’t fully reach the heights of the films that inspired it.

I went for all achievements in this game, I thought the game was pretty fun. Reminded me alot of the Lego games with hundreds of collectables.
I'm looking forward to Hogwarts Legacy 2.
I'm considering buying the Lego Harry Potter video game. Can you recommend it? Thanks, have a good day!
I haven't got 100% in Lego Harry Potter but I've played through them, and if you like the Harry Potter series its alot of fun. If you're able to get the collection it regularly goes on sale for around 60% off.
I enjoyed it and am looking forward to Hogwarts Legacy 2 as well. However, the collectible collection was very tedious, the game was filled with bugs and lack of movie/book foes was disappointing. Hopefully game 2 includes/fixes those as well as provides a better story.
As a lifelong potter fan it was a game I’ve wanted for a long time. It’s fairly simple though when you boil it down, so I’m looking forward to seeing what additions they’ll make in the sequel
I liked it, even 100%’d it. I thought the combat mechanics were quite good and hogwarts was well done. I could tell it had to be stripped back though, probably budget reasons. I’m kind of hopeful they take it further with their next release
This. It is a perfect game for Harry Potter fans, it had everything except quidditch. People will trash talk this game on reddit because of J. K. Rowling only.
I’m a Harry Potter fan and I can see both sides of it. On one hand I’m in awe at the level of detail they put into Hogwarts and the quality of the surrounding landscape. I appreciate the flying mechanics and genuinely really like the combat for the most part.
On the other hand, the story feels like it has no stakes and something about the world just feels… not alive. I think they just needed to spend more time developing the main story and side quests and fleshing out the small settlements around Hogwarts. It just feels like it’s 70% finished, but I appreciate it a lot for what it does well.
It was boring, bloated, repetitive, grindy and nothing but an endless series of fetch quests with dogshit combat that amounted to match yellow to yellow and red to red. And no quidditch? Fucking WHAAAAAAT? Oh right, separate, purchasable game…
HOWEVER…
They fucking nailed the atmosphere. The game looked and felt exactly how I’d imagine Hogwarts would look and feel at the turn of the century with killer music to boot.
All potential, little delivery. 4/10
Absolutely! I’m taking my time with it as far as doing all the missions and grinding stuff since it does get old fairly quick. That said I’m using it more as for the exploration and atmosphere. There was so much detail that went into it that I’m just having fun going from house to house and seeing how everything else relates to the movies.
It was a good game based on your budget and the price point you purchase it at.
I viewed it as a virtual amusement park into Hogwarts and the surrounding countryside and town. In that respect, it succeeded. How much that experience is worth to you is variable.
With that said— the game is poorly optimized, even to this day. A beefy PC will still struggle to do max settings for this game, and even with those settings, the game looks kind of mid.
Once you finish most of the main stuff in the castle (20 hours) you pretty much have seen all this game has to offer.
Fun for a little while, though it's incredibly SAME SAME, and the lack of quidditch really made me.stopncaring about it very quickly. Flying on a broom was fun, but how many times can you just go from A to B,
Same, but swap out quidditch for classes, and managing student life.
They pay brief lip service to the idea of being a student, needing rules and a curfew, and having to attend classes. But unless a story mission specifically requires it, it doesn't matter. It feels so hollow setting the game in Hogwarts when they don't use the location as much more than set dressing.
Thisssss they made a quidditch game for peeps that wanted more of that stuff. I'm allll for the animals. I wish they did more with every single class... it was my first time playing a game ever. And they really let me down with not having different classes for at least every house. It was the same for Slytherin as it was for Griffindor to Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw.
Yeah. The intro to the game was a blast, especially the scene when you finally actually get to Hogwarts after like 30 min of gameplay. Then it kinda just slowly goes downhill from there.
Yeah most ubisoft games have a pretty open gameplay, like bunch of weapons, quests, items, stealth or action.
Here there isn't really anything.
Tho hogwarts is amazing.
