How to Find Anime Merchandise

TL;DR: Check out online stores like Crunchyroll, Amiami, and RightStuf, as well as local anime conventions and specialty shops.

Online Retailers

Several online retailers are popular for purchasing anime merchandise. Crunchyroll is frequently mentioned as a reliable source for officially licensed products, offering a wide range of items from books to figures [2:2], [5:2]. Other recommended sites include Amiami, HLJ (HobbyLink Japan), Mandarake, and Hobbysearch, which are Japanese stores known for better deals and timely releases [5:1]. Amazon.jp is another option for official merch, although it requires ordering directly from Amazon itself [5:3].

Specialty Stores and Collaborations

For those looking for unique or collaborative anime clothing, Uniqlo occasionally offers anime collections, such as their Makoto Shinkai collection [1:2]. Brands like Hypland and Primitive have collaborated with anime series like Bleach, Hunter x Hunter, and Dragon Ball Z to create exclusive merchandise [1:4].

Local and In-Person Options

Visiting local stores and events can also be fruitful. Stores like BoxLunch, Hot Topic, and 2nd & Charles offer a variety of anime merchandise [2:1]. Additionally, attending anime conventions can provide access to a wide range of merchandise and the opportunity to make purchases in person [4:1].

Unique Finds and Custom Items

For more personalized or unique items, Etsy is a great platform where many independent artists sell custom anime-related merchandise [4:1]. This can include everything from posters to handcrafted items that might not be available elsewhere.

Considerations for Quality and Authenticity

When buying online, especially from lesser-known sites, it's important to ensure the authenticity and quality of the merchandise. Opting for official stores or well-reviewed platforms can help avoid counterfeit products. Additionally, checking if sellers offer refunds or exchanges can provide peace of mind when purchasing online [3:1].

Hey does anyone know where I can buy cool anime clothing? Not looking for hot topic type stuff but more like thoughtful clothing or anime brand collabs

Sometimes Uniqlo has anime collections so you can check there. I think they still have their Makoto Shinkai collection up on their website.

Hey! New here (US)…I’m a mom to an 8yr who loves all things anime. Where to buy merch?

Posted by Hot-Relative8290 · in r/AnimeMerchandise · 1 month ago

I plan to redecorate his room and would love to incorporate some anime stuff. He loves Jujutsu Kaisen and the character Goku (I think lol). Seems like any site I go to just has action figures.

Is there a marketplace that sells bedding, maybe wall art, stuff like that? In addition to toys?

Thanks! I don’t know my a-hole from my elbow about this stuff, if you couldn’t pick up on it 🤣

If you are in the US, the Crunchyroll store has a ton of merch/books/video/figures/etc that is all officially-licensed products.

AnimeApe has a lot of clothing; not the most amazing quality but decent enough.

Popular anime right now so you could easily find merch.

In-store: 2nd and Charles (paradise for collectors), BoxLunch, Hot Topic, Ross Dress for Less (hit or miss, but have found some figures)

Online: Box Lunch, Crunchyroll, eStarland (owner is a straight up guy and awesome to work with)

Fun: Etsy, anime conventions (make it an experience)

I dont really know, but have a look in anime merch stores near you ig. You can also try searching online and purchasing from there, though that's more risky ofc. If you do purchase online try to get sellers that allow refund/free exchange if damaged just in case.

You can also take a look at the official tensura website ten-sura.com, though im not sure whether they can ship to you (as its mainly information for shops in japan iirc)

Hi imcamwolf, it seems like you might be looking for anime recommendations! I have changed the flair on your post to indicate that, but if I'm wrong, feel free to change it back!

The users of this subreddit came up with an awesome recommendations flowchart. Maybe you can find something there that you'll like ^.^

You might also find our Recommendation Wiki or Weekly Recommendation Thread helpful.

The following may be of interest:

  • List of legal streams and downloads

  • A useful website where you can enter an anime and see where it's legally streaming

  • List of currently airing anime

  • A useful wiki page with watch orders for many anime.

  • A list of tracking sites so others can more easily recommend shows you haven't watched.

We usually get stuff at cons, but most people we buy from at on Etsy. It’s you want licensed materials, it’s always safe to go through the official stores like Funimation, crunchroll, etc. if there are an anime store near your area they are usually safe to buy from too.

Kinokuniya has stuff, comic stores will usually have something like Newbury Comics have stuff. Oddly enough, target and Walmart have had posters for My Hero Academia and Deathnote, so if they are popular enough they might be there or Barnes and noble.

Amazon.jp is the easiest way to get official anime merch, but the bad part is that since it’s the Japanese Amazon, you can only order stuff that is sold by and ships directly from Amazon itself.

As a rule of thumb you're better off buying directly from Japanese stores like Amiami, HLJ, Mandarake and hobbysearch than using western third-party stores. Its easier to get better deals and more punctual releases for new merch this way.

any tips for someone just starting to collect anime merch?

Posted by wster1a · in r/AnimeCollectors · 1 month ago

I've been a fan of anime for years now and I barely own any merchandise. I plan to start collecting anime stuff but I have no idea where to start. Every time I look for collectibles in physical stores, I feel overwhelmed by all the items, so I become indecisive about what to buy. I also intend to focus on purchasing official ones, any tips on where to start?

as someone who is now slowly purging alot of various collectible from various fandoms. My biggest advice is only but what you want and will enjoy. Don’t fall into FOMO or needing to have everything from one series.

Less is more and buy only what brings you joy and thqt you will enjoy having for a good long time

Honestly, I have been sticking to physical media due to not every series having a renewed license/NA distribution from Crunchyroll. I've bought a bunch of my collection secondhand (mostly Funimation stuff) or have been very lucky to wait for online sales.

My advice is to first make a list of the anime series you like the most and do a bunch of window shopping to compare prices. I honestly made a spreadsheet on Excel recently of series that I am currently in the process of collecting, and it has helped me so much to stay organized on my "hunts." 😆 Online reviews of physical media also help narrow down what version you want to buy and save on shelf space (and money).

Watch before you buy something if you can stream it first or borrow from a friend. This community is obsessed with blind buying, and then you see people offloading their impulse purchases when they inevitably run out of space.

If you put that requirement of watching before you buy, you'll naturally prioritize the stuff you actually have an interest in.

My advice? Don't.

In all seriousness, put limits on yourself. As you said, there is an overwhelming amount of merch out there, and if you don't have limits in place, you will end up spending way too much on a ton of stuff.

I advise sticking to just a few anime, your absolute favorites, and buy merch for those. And in addition, only collect certain kinds of merch. Do you like wall scrolls or figures? Blurays or soundtracks? Of course, you may like multiple types of merch, but try to limit yourself to the kind of stuff you really like.

For example, if you don't really care about Tshirts, don't buy one just because it has your favorite anime on it. Likewise, if you love tshirts, and you find one with an anime character you only sorta care about, you should probably skip it.

Of course, you will come across exceptions, where one item on particular is just really really cool. That's fine. Just make sure it doesn't get out of hand.

Best place to buy online Anime merch that aren't figures?

Hey all!

Trying to add some posters/wall scrolls to my walls and I am wondering what the best places to purchase online are! I know there are some places to stay clear of so just trying to see what my best bet is. Is it Amazon JP? Let me know where you get yours!

Thank you <3

AmiAmi actually has quite a bit of merch (as does Amazon.co.jp). Other than AmiAmi and Amazon.co.jp, usually the manufacturers of the merch have it in their store. I also understand Animate Japan has a lot (https://www.animate-onlineshop.jp/), but you need a proxy, and need to search for the goods you want in the series original kanji.

Hey there, I just started selling anime merch this year. I hope it's ok to post my own website: https://cidsas-attic.com

I've got a ton of character goods to add so if you're looking for a series in particular let me know. A lot of it is older/unique/out of print so I have to take pictures myself.

How do I find anime merchandise

Here are some key considerations for finding anime merchandise:

  1. Online Retailers: Websites like Amazon, eBay, and Etsy offer a wide range of anime merchandise, from figures to clothing. Check for seller ratings and reviews to ensure quality.

  2. Specialty Stores: Look for online stores that specialize in anime merchandise, such as Crunchyroll Store, Right Stuf Anime, and Funimation Shop. These often have exclusive items.

  3. Conventions: Anime conventions are great places to find unique merchandise. Vendors often sell exclusive items that you can't find elsewhere.

  4. Social Media and Forums: Follow anime-related accounts on platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and Reddit. Communities often share links to merchandise sales or group buys.

  5. Second-Hand Marketplaces: Websites like Mercari and Depop can have great deals on pre-owned anime merchandise. Just be sure to verify the condition and authenticity.

  6. Local Shops: Check out local comic book stores, gaming shops, or specialty anime stores. They may have a selection of merchandise available.
