TL;DR: To unlock all secrets in Hades, players must complete various tasks including defeating the final boss multiple times, deepening relationships with characters, and investing Titan Blood into weapons. Key aspects include unlocking hidden weapon forms, progressing through the story, and engaging with NPCs for dialogue.
Unlocking Hidden Weapon Aspects
To access the hidden aspects of weapons in Hades, you need to invest a specific amount of Titan Blood into each weapon. For example, to unlock the Aspect of Guan Yu for the spear, you must invest at least 5 Titan Blood 9:2. After this, you should talk to Achilles until he provides the necessary dialogue about the waking phrase for the aspect. This may require multiple interactions, so some players recommend doing quick runs to expedite the process
1 (0:40).
For other weapons, similar requirements apply. You generally need to invest Titan Blood across different weapons and engage with certain gods during your runs to trigger the dialogues that lead to unlocking their hidden aspects 10:1.
Progressing Through the Story
Many secrets in Hades are tied to story progression. Players often need to defeat Hades multiple times to unlock new areas and dialogues. The game encourages repeated playthroughs, as many plot points and character interactions only become available after achieving a certain number of escapes or completing specific tasks 2:6
5:1.
Once you've reached the end credits, further interactions with characters will continue to reveal more lore and unlock additional content 2:8. Engaging with characters like Sisyphus and others can also yield rewards and deepen relationships, which is essential for unlocking certain features
6:1.
Character Interactions and Relationships
Building relationships with characters is crucial for unlocking secrets. Each character has unique dialogue that can be triggered by giving them gifts (Nectar and Ambrosia) and talking to them after runs. For instance, maxing out relationships with certain characters can lead to legendary keepsakes and deeper storylines 4:1.
Players have noted that some characters, like Megara, may disappear temporarily after certain events, but they will reappear later, allowing for continued interaction 6:1.
Final Thoughts
In summary, unlocking all secrets in Hades involves a combination of gameplay mechanics, story progression, and character interactions. Players should focus on completing runs, investing Titan Blood wisely, and engaging deeply with the game's rich narrative and characters. Keep playing, and you'll uncover all the hidden gems the game has to offer!
I just wish it would say more. I've done all of that but still can't get Achilles to reveal the spear (he's locked on hearts). I just keep doing runs hoping some day he'll say something.
I did suicide runs just to get him to say it faster. Ended up being useless because I misunderstood the wiki and didn't spend 5 blood on the spear. At least he was fast after that, since I'd exhausted his talk
There’s nothing else to say. Just backed up dialogue or bad luck
That's great thanks
Just keep beating the game, at some point this area will open up for story reasons, I don't know if any character mentionned what it's supposed to be at this point in the game, but it'll make sense.
It's purely story-related anyway, there's no secret feature or game mechanic behind that gate, just some plot and lore.
Thank you for the answer. I’ll keep grinding. I got my third tonight!
Congrats on the 3rd clear!!! I wish I could go back to my first few wins again. The lore in the game is SO good. And it does a great job with giving you the options on how to increase difficulty. I can't wait for Hades 2!
Idk if any character will actually ever address what it is. I spoke to every character I could after every run and never once had a character even mention it
Keep playing mate, you’ll unlock it through story eventually. I don’t want to spoil anything lol
I’ve beat hades twice. Are there a certain number of finishes? Certain people to talk to? Am I looking for certain aspects or wells? Thanks again
Major plot point hapens after enough finishes. Don't need anything more spesific just keep escaping
Finish the Epilogue of the story. You’ll know when you reached it, there will be a special cinematic and song.
If you haven’t seen the credits roll, keep beating [Redacted]. If you have….keep beating [Redacted]. There is no escape
My friend put the game down after beating Hades once. I couldn’t believe it..
Literally just keep playing, you'll get there
It's only 10?! Geez I just got to this part after many, many runs...
I have about 115 runs, approximately 30 escapes, all weapons cleared between 5 and 8 heat I believe. I have progressed the story to the point where the Olympians all came via Persephone's invitation. My relationship with all NPCs is maxed out, I think I am only missing Sisyphus' cthonic companion. I have all hidden weapon aspects (though have not maxed out each individual aspect).
I have loved every part of this game, but a big part of my continuing to play this long has been the rolling unlocks and story/dialogue development. I'm sure I'll play the game some no matter what to some degree moving forward, but if there aren't major progression unlocks left, I might take the opportunity to pick up some other games in my free time. Are there major things that I have left to unlock on that front? If so, please let me know without completely spoiling it if possible. Thanks!
As far as I'm aware there's not much else. Of course there's probably some dialogue you haven't gotten cause there always is. Some that you just would have never guessed lol. But for story that's pretty much it. If you haven't gotten all the prophecies then there's that. And if you haven't fought the secret boss then there's that as well but if not then yea you can definitely move on.
I've done some searching but couldn't find anything
Is it possible to open the two locked doors in the entry area?
What are the secret stash locks at the bottom of the keepsakes for?
Anything else that is unlocked well after several wins? Or only with high heat?
As far as anyone has found, not yet
Legendary Keepsakes from a couple characters that you have maxed out relationships with. You'll start giving them Ambroisa. There are currently four.
Skelly might have a couple "rewards" for you after doing clears with progressively higher heat levels
How much heat do you need for those rewards? Are those the same rewards as from The Useless Trinket from the Fated List of Minor Prophecies?
6 heat, 12(?) heat, and 32 heat.
Awesome, thank you!!
Just keep getting clears. You have to get to the end credits before it unlocks.
I belive it was like the end credits +1 for me
Clear 10 times
Well, brother, you need to get those numbers up.
Them's rookie numbers.
Get your tenth clear first. Then keep doing runs and talking to him whenever possible. It'll unlock eventually.
I'm currently sitting at about 130 runs.
I have the United Orpheus and eurydice. I have freed sissipus. Defeated Charon twice. Had 10k kills and talked to Ares. Defeated extreme measures theseus and talked to Poseidon.
I need help on the following.
1 All three datable characters are unlocked. Got the cutscene where mag is in my room twice but since then she's missing should I continue on till she reappears or is there something I'm supposed to do.
2 Forged bonds with Zeus, Athena, Ares, Dionysus. Rest of the Olympians are currently locked how do I unlock them I don't get the option to give ambrosia.
3 How to re unite Achilles and Patrocolous their hearts are currently locked and I get single line dialogues from both of them since past 10 runs maybe.
4 Similar problem with nyx and chaos their hearts are locked and I don't get any dialogues from them. Just finished the storyline where nyx fires dusa and rehires her back 5 runs ago.
5 Hades bedroom has this ghost that lets you upgrade something what is it's significance ? I kind of don't remember the dialogue but I upgraded it twice already.
6 I'm missing spread fire for adamant rail, rush kick for twin fists, dashing wallop and ferocious guard for the shield. I can't find these options in the deadalus hammer how do I find them ?
My problem is that from the past 5-6 runs I don't get any dialogues from any of the characters ?
For the hammers, check the wiki. Certain hammer upgrades are incompatible with certain weapon aspects. It's possible you're always running e.g. Lucifer on the rail, and then can't get spread fire or something.
The wiki is a good source for all th se questions honestly but I'm sure there is nuance that someone here can help you (and me) with.
Yeah usually wikis have spoilers and generally Hades is a great game where you don't need the use of a wiki. But yeah I'll try different aspects then.
The bedroom ghost upgrades your rank if im not wrong. >!You can get up to the highest one which matches Hades i think? I believe there is a dialogue or so to uncover then if im not wrong.!<
For achilles and patroclus i think you talk to hades at some point and >!then get a contract or so to release achilles..!<
Dont remember the rest, its been a while, honestly the wiki should have all the answers or if you just google some keywords + "reddit" im sure someone on some sub somewhere will have answered it! Good luck!
(Sorry for the marking, just want to be sure im not spoiling the game for anyone😅)
Yeah the reason I'm not just googling it cause of the stupid spoilers and so far I didn't feel the need the use of a wiki.
Yes your markings are greatly appreciated.
I know that the Achilles patroclus story unlocks by wearing Achilles keepsake when you visit patroclus
Ohhhh that's prolly what I'm missing thank you.
These two links should help you with 1-4.
Guide on Unlocking Hearts(Completing Favors)
Hades 1.0: Endgame FAQ/Guide(Spoilers inside)
All it is, is an end game meta currency resource dump.
At Max Rank(Unseen One) you get special dialogue with Hades about reaching the same rank as him.
Like you can’t get the Flurry Jab hammer on Hades spear because it disables spin attacks which is Hades spear gimmick.
I’ve unlocked Arthur, Gilgamesh, and Guan Yu, but I don’t know to unlock the others and I’m afraid I’ll get spoiled to what they are if look on the internet?
Any help?
Suggestion: talk to the sassy salad girl (aka Artemis) :D
Thanks! I did that anyway so maybe I’m pretty close
Yeah, it should trigger something if you think talking to her. Good luck :D
Talk to the famed hunter, the one in the heavens, and the originator of existence
Game is trash. Your best option is uninstalling
Thanks I’ll try it
Obvious trolling here
your honor, here's your bad opinion
Invest some blood in the Rail, Shields, and Bows, and keep talking to Zeus, Chaos, and Artemis.
As you progress through Hadea, you will see these large doors known as the Vaults of Forbidden Knowledge. There is no way to open these unless you have a code. The vault contains weapons or pieces of history, but more often the rewards are Glyphs, Relics, or even Rare Amine Prisms. The vaults will reveal to you in an order as the story progresses, but if you have the codes, you can open the vault whenever you like. Below guide has the details of the location of the vaults and the codes required to top them.
All Vaults of Forbidden Knowledge Locations and Code
Hope it helps!
can you tell us how you figured out the codes?
Tania gives them to you after you deliver enough ResearchItems
I think someone also brute forced it in the demo.
I’ve googled for it but couldn’t find anything. All I’ve unlocked was the spear’s, and i have no idea how i did it.
Also, how do i unlock the rock thing? I’ve fed his “owner” with elixirs to the maximum already.
Since you already have the hidden aspect for the spear, the only requirement you really need to worry about is having at least 5 Titan Blood invested into each weapon. Beyond that, it's pretty much just a matter of playing until you are told the awakening phrases for the remaining weapons.
So how do you get the spear? Ive invested way more than 5 in several weapons. Ive also looked up the pinned guide but Achilles doesnt seem to talk about it. Maybe i have missed it? Is there something else than talking to him you need to do after hitting the other requirements? I also cant give him Ambrosia despite the game telling me i need to deepen my relationship to him after reaching the nectar max.
The requirement for the hidden aspect for the spear is to have invested at least 10 Titan Blood in total between all the weapons, then it's just a amtter of talking to Achilles until he gets around to mentioning it. The ability to give Ambrosia to him requires you to continue the story between him and Patroclus.
Anyone know how you unlock mirror talents? I only have 3 options on there.
keys. Below the talents you can pay 5 or so keys to get the rest
Generally speaking, it just takes more runs. A lot of things are gated 'til a specific number of runs - I think Than, for example, is only there after... 15 runs or so.
I do not know how to :c
you have to unlock Guan Yu on the spear first and then spend a certain amount of darkness titan blood on each weapon to unlock the others
edit: brain no work
No. you spend titan blood (and nectar) and need to trigger dialogue with certain gods when using the weapons.
why the hell did I say darkness. my brain is elsewhere apparently
and yeah dialogue too, I was trying to just give them the starting point though
Thanks!!!!
So helpful thanks, is like there are communities here for a reason.
Its almost like the community made a website to answer questions like these without needing to make a post on reddit that has been made multiple times
I have seen people say that you can get skelly statues in hades 2, but I have beaten the game on as high as 24 heat now and they still havent popped up. How do you unlock them?
keep talking to skelly, eventually his dialogue tells you about them.
They’re in the training grounds, directly right from Skelly. You have to clear 8/16/32 on both the surface and underworld for each one.
I have beaten both on 8 heat. Does it need to be with the same weapon or do I have some kind of bug?
You get the requirements on the fear modifiers panel on the left.
You need to finish the game with the required fear BOTH on by surface and underground!
As soon as you unlock fear modifiers it should say on the bottom left of the modifier screen "conquer the underworld" "conquer the surface" with a number next to them which indicates fear you need (you might have to speak to Skelly first idk)
Once you conquer both areas at the required fear just go talk to Skelly each time. I think the first statue only requires 8? fear for both clears.
Weird, I have def beaten both on as high as 16 heat, and there is nothing in the bottom right, nor has there ever been on this save.
i cant say for sure but I think you have to get a dialogue with him that only pops up after you get a clear with all the weapons. it may have been a coincidence but I got the cutscene right after getting a win with my last weapon
Hermes - talk to him with a maxed Lambent Plume. You need to do it at least 2 times iirc
Dionysus - give out at least 10 Ambrosia
Poseidon - talk to him while holding a fish. You can carry this over from a previous run
Zeus - get all dialogue of other gods commenting on him. It's gotten by talking to another god with a Zeus boon on you. Not sure if there are any restrictions, though.
>talk to him while holding a fish
Wot?
Like, you catch a fish, then talk to Poseidon. And it'll work as long as you don't go to the chef and turn in the fish.
Each has a different unique requirement. They're all on the wiki if you want to look them up. Keep in mind that you still have to trigger a specific dialogue to get the unlock even if you meet the requirements, so just keep doing runs and talking to them.
Haven’t looked at wiki to avoid spoilers for the ending and the character arcs
If you don't want spoilers, then really all we can say is just keep playing, doing runs, turning the heat up when you cap out your bounties (mix up your pact options), spending your resources, alternating weapons and most importantly talking to every character when you can.
There's nothing you can miss, nothing you can skip by doing or not doing certain things as long as you keep playing the game and switching it up every time.
The game doesn't have much in the way of mechanics, other than yet more runs. So do more and more - enjoy it! The fated list is a good way to mix up your builds and see what to go for next, try to aim for the things you haven't gotten or done on there yet.
Yep, all you have to do is check the wiki.
First this games amazing. Ok that’s out of the way. So can anyone tell me the hidden mechanics in this game? I tried searching and wasn’t able to find anything here or on the wiki. For example, the fact that you can only get 2 Daedalus or Hermès upgrades, the fact that apparently you can only find four gods naturally on a given run, or that duos cannot be granted in a trials room if it’s those two gods (I have no idea if any of these statements are true. It’s what I have deduced from 50 runs). I saw a YouTuber take Poseidon’s Sunken Treasure because he didn’t want to “muddy the boom pool”. That’s a thing?!
TL;DR: where can I find hidden rules/mechanics for this game?!
I haven’t checked if they took it out or not with 1.0, but you could check the first rooms boon (which would “lock it” as the first choice) then retire, allowing you to switch weapons/mirror options/keepsakes to beat suit that boon. It also lets you fish for the “best” option for that boon/weapon combo. For example, if Athena is in your first room, you can check what she’s offering, and if dash isn’t there, retire and try again.
It’s not the most game breaking or useful thing, and again I haven’t checked to see if they kept it in, but it is a “hidden” mechanic
That's true, the boons and rooms are seeded. So you can check the first boon, then back out and change. I like to look for a chaos gate, and if one spawns in the first half of Tartarus, I'll back out and equip the chaos egg.
Speaking of which, is there a seed input anywhere like other rogues?
There's the duo boons requirements, such as 1 "tier 1" boon from each god. And somewhat even more vague, the legendary requirements. These aren't on the wiki (anymore?), but there's guides out there that show which boons are (maybe) required for legendary boons to show up.
Edit: not hidden any more!
You can actually see all of those requirements in game when you select the god from the codex. Definitely worth knowing and thankfully aren’t hidden.
Daedalus is accurate I think unless you do the 1 for 2 trade with Charon or buy a hammer from him regularly (maybe, it’s really rare to get it to show up in shop and I can’t confirm if you can find two past that). It’s certainly easier to get more than two from Hermes, but generally you’ll have to buy them. Not sure on the duo exclusion from trials.
As for muddying the boon pool, I assume they’re talking about how boon prerequisites work. For example, you can’t get Poseidon boons that buff knockback boons until you have a knockback boon. So if you’re fishing for one of a God’s tertiary boons, it’s more likely that they’ll be an option if you don’t have one of their regular boons. In my example, say you want Poseidon’s +gold, gems and darkness boon, if you have no knockback boons it’s more likely to be one of the three options - especially once your slots are all full.
Oh speaking of, that’s another thing - when you have empty ability slots, every boon you find that can fill that slot has a higher chance of offering you that as an option - fairly obvious, as the first few boons you find will generally offer 2/3 of the slot fillers.
You can get three Hermes boons in a run. Otherwise I'm pretty sure the rest is correct, although it's four gods other than Hermes. As far as muddying the boon pool, some boons only show up when you have certain prerequisite boons - that's not hidden since you can see it in the codex. Sometimes if you want certain boons to show up it's better not to qualify for too many of that god's other boons.
Yup this is what he meant. Because if he took Poseidon’s dash, that would have opened up knock back boons. Makes sense, thanks!!!
Not only that, but if he wanted a different dash that would fit his build better it becomes much more difficult to get that if he took Poseidon's dash. You can get replacement boons, but they are much rarer than getting one for the first time.
I think the hammer availability isn't very random. If you pass up your first hammer, and each after, you'll probably see hammers offered very frequently - this isn't something I've tested thoroughly, but I've seen 4 or more hammers offered afterword. Also, this wasn't the case for second hammers. Pass that up and you often never get another chance (though second hammers, if they show up at all, are generally quite late in the run, which may be a contributing factor).
Long story short, the game seems to stack the deck for you to get at least one hammer.
So, in a trial room, you can NOT get the duo for the two competing gods. But, can you get a duo boon for each with a different god?
Example: Trial room is Art & Zeus. So Art + Zeus duo is not available. But is something like Art + Ares or Zeus + Pos available? Assuming you have the prerequisites.
Still don’t confirmation for or against as far as I know (which I’m assuming means no). You can confirmed get a legendary, but both my son and I have been tracking and no duos so far (and that’s with about 150 runs so I’m guessing it’s safe to say no duos)
So… i knew this game was a banger since its release to Nintendo switch but never saw the appeal “also on a device i don’t have anymore “
And then it released on PS5 didn’t buy and waited to be on sale and today finally bought it
All i know about the game is
1- it’s roguelike basically trial and error until you beat hades 9 times? Currently playing Nightreign for similar experience
2- i know about all the Greek gods that they give you buffs to build around and NPC who are greek characters that are vendors
And that’s about it so do give mr your best game breaking builds
Athena dash.
Collect keys at the start so that you can unlock more options on the mirror of night and also collect darkness to afford the upgrades. Get the second dash, purchase extra death defiances (DD), thick skin and privileged status.
By the time you do this you should have a pretty good grasp of what you should be doing and take it from there.
Have fun and good luck!
just enjoy the game. dont think too deeply. It's about replaying again n agin and learning new builds. choose a weapon, choose a god keepsake, and try to complete the run. failed change god or weapon. that's it. Hope you enjoy it ✌️
a lot of dash strike, merciful end ares athena duo is completely game breaking, don't be afraid to die
There's no such thing as being late for Hades
(Me still playing and Platinuming 100% Hades years later)
I bounced off it when it came out, forgot for years, then just got my first heat 0 a week ago... It didn't get less fun over the years.
Your parenthetical describes me also.
haha. Good to hear.
Hey it's my Uncle Zeus! ⚡ 🌩️
It is not similiar to nightreign, as nightreign has you moving freely across the map while Hades has you having a predetermined path with different types of variables. Hades has only one character but 6 weapons but all play differently. The between run progression is also bigger with Hades.
So I just picked this game up in the UK sale for about £12 after hearing the hype. I played for 30 minutes tonight and I get that I keep dying and I’m meant to. But what do I “need” to know about playing this game? Any resources I shouldn’t squander? Do I get a map at any point? What’s worth knowing? Thanks
There is a mirror in your room. Don't give more than one nectar to any one person until you've given everyone at least one.
Other than that... off you go. See you back in the house soon.
You can't do the wrong thing and miss anything.
There's no shame in turning on God Mode if you're getting super frustrated.
The game is best experienced organically, so get out there and fight!
The other comments are already good enough advice. The only thing I'll add is, while you know you're meant to die, really make sure to make yourself accept that death in this game isn't a punishment. Even if you know you're supposed to die, people in the wrong mindset can still get upset over it, but understand the only way to spend all the new resources and get new dialog is only going to happen after dying.

The game really doesn't consider death a punishment, and the better you understand this the better you'll enjoy it.
Thanks. I’m a perfectionist so this is helpful as I saw deaths as failures.
The special resources you get from beating an area boss for the first time* are arguably the most limited resources in the game. Don't trade them in for darkness or gems unless you really know what you're doing.
*first time per weapon and per [mechanic you haven't unlocked yet]
There is no map. You just get doors and sometimes there's several to choose from. The icon above the door tells you what kind of a reward you'll get for clearing the next room. If it has a lottle skull under it, it means it's a miniboss/harder fight. At the beginning, one of the main resources is the chthonic key - it allows you to unlock more weapons and you should do that asap. After you've unlocked them, the key beckmes pretty useless. Darkness is also more useful at the beginning, as the amounts of darkness you get from darkness rooms becomes very insignificant to the darkness you get by beating bosses. Gems are mostly cosmetic, but in late game, I take them over darkness or the keys. Nectar is used for relationship progression - I advise you give everyone at least one nectar to get their keepsakes. Titan's blood, diamonds and ambrosia are resources you get by beating bosses for the first time and they become pretty important a bit later. This covers the resources that stay with you after your run. In the late game, when it's all about clearing the runs, they (except the boss fight) become much less useful.
Out of other resources, you have boons and hammers - personally, I'd focus on these, unless you know you're going to die in the next few rooms. Coin is useful in late game, when you can spend it in the end, but much less useful if you feel like you won't reach the next shop. Poms are somewhere on par with darkness or gems imo - useful, but not nearly as good as boons. Charon's shop is useful if you have enough money to heal up and you're on low health or you feel like you might die soon. NPC rooms (the exclamation point) give you great advanteges and progress the story, so I almost always pick them with hugh priority. That's about it as far as doors and resources go. Let me know if you have further questions, but above all, have fun. Yes, you will die a lot in this game, but you WILL get better at it, both through upgrading Zagreus' abilities and you yourself getting the feel for the game.
I’ve been handing out nectar like crazy and I still don’t know how to advance in my friendships… can someone give me a sense of how long it’s gonna take without giving spoilers?
The locked hearts require completing a ‘quest’ from that NPC to progress past. It’s not officially tracked or anything, you just have to keep playing and eventually the conditions will happen, but you can look up specifics on the wiki.
Once you get to the locked heart for Thanatos, you gotta beat him at his death competition, then talk to him a few times at the house of hades. The dialog you need from him can compete with other dialog he can give on each visit, so it can take a while to get it.
Just play the game. Some interactions need prior specific interactions to ocur. I recommend you to speak to everyone in the lobby before each run to increase the chances to do the specific interactions needed for that. Also, focus speaking to Hipnos specifically.
I think it's also one of the last ones i unlocked, so maybe it will take some time
i got this one second or third, but yeah, it takes time and playing the game
I think it'll happen organically the next time you see him during an escape attempt.
See for further reference: The One Answer. (Just Keep Playing).
...and it was SIGNIFICANTLY earlier than expected. I've unlocked three, maybe four, of the Hidden Aspects and have maybe ten full clears and this just came out of nowhere.
But, it feels like there's still quite a bit of story left?
Ten clears is what’s needed to complete the “main” story line, but you should keep going. There’s an epilogue after the credits roll that you can unlock >!by gaining favor from the Olympian gods.!<
Apart from the epilogue, there are also a number of side stories and achievements you can get. And new dialog seems to keep popping up. I made it to about 15 heat (70+ clears) and was still getting new dialog. Apparently new dialog continues at least until 30 heat (150+ clears), though it gets increasingly more sparse…
>Apparently new dialog continues at least until 30 heat (150+ clears), though it gets increasingly more sparse…
Exactly.
I'm near 500 runs and I got a new dialogue from Hypnos last week, because it was the first time I died on a specific foe.
How many tries did it take? I’ve escaped like 4 times by now
I had a slow start, I think the 10th clear was my 78th run
If you're struggling, Demeter's Cast and the Shield make Redacted significantly easier
10 clears to hit the credits, waaay more to finish the game
Fuuuuuuuuuck
Well congratulation if you want to unlock (small spoiler ahead) >!mayor story part - true ending!<, keep escaping, talking with everyone . you might also want to do the achievments.
Also you might want to try (semi spoiler ahead) >!Redacted true fight with EM4 its pretty fun.!<
Congrats on finally starting the game. lol. Tons left to do and see
Sounds like he hit the credits, so I wouldn't say he's "just starting."
Correct
I've been planning to get Hades for a while but I'm tied between it and a couple of other games. I just want to know what to expect from this game, and if it's 100% worth it. Also, how long would it take me to play, as I want a game that's quite time-consuming. :)
Just saying, if you go to a game's sub and ask if you should get it, the answer is always yes.
But yeah, if you like roguelikes, you'll like this game.
Well speaking as someone who had never played a roguelike before and loved it… it’s just really good game
I'm you.
Never played move-in rogue lites (played text based Moria back in the day though) and mostly stick to slow strategy games like Civilization. Have played more Hades than any other game every year since its launch. Good game.
Looking forward to Hades II.
I don't like roguelikes and I loved this game! I tried it a few years ago and played for like 5 minutes. Just kind of seemed whatever to me. Tried it again this year and made a serious effort to play more than 30 minutes and I got hooked.
I had never played roguelikes and I loved this game. Then I played others and it wasn't the same.
I think that's because it has the same charm as Slay the Spire: is not so much about the action, the REAL gameplay is the choices you make along the way!
One of the finest games ever made. It's the only game in my Steam library I bothered to complete. And I'm almost 300 hours in, but currently playing Hades 2.
It's one of two games I've torrented then paid for. The other being elden ring.
Well I hate to brake it to you but asking the dedicated sub full of fans if the game is worth it or not is a pretty silly idea.
Of course we will all tell you it’s worth it.
However I am mature enough to realize that not every game is for everyone(stupid collective shout).
Hades may be a game for you or it may not be.
Hades is a rogue like game. It means that when you die you start back at the beginning again.
Thankfully Hades has Meta currency that you can bring back with you to power yourself up with Permanent upgrades.
As for what you will be getting yourself into.
Zagreus is the son of Hades god of the dead.
Zag wants to escape the Greek underworld to go live with his godly relatives up on Mount Olympus.
To do this Zag has to battle his way through various Lvs of the underworld and many enemies and four strong bosses to reach the surface world and eventually Mt Olympus.
Whenever Zag fails in battle he returns to the house of Hades.
There he can use Gems, Darkness, Nectar, Keys, Diamonds, Ambrosia and Titans Blood to do various things.
Like giving Nectar to NPC’s to further his relationships with them.
Using his meta currency at the House Contractor to renovate the house itself via cosmetic items or buy stuff to help him out with various quests or to alter the underworld to help him escape.
He can use his darkness to power himself up via the Mirror of Darkness in his room.
Use Keys to unlock more of the mirror or use said keys to unlock more weapons for him to try out in his escape attempts.
Eventually he can use the Titian’s blood he gathers to power up his weapons.
As for playtime that depends on where you stop and how long it takes you to understand the combat well enough.
How long to beat .com says Main Story 23 Hours
Main + Sides 48½ Hours
Completionist 95 Hours
All Styles 43½ Hours
So you can get at least a good 24-100 hours out of the game if not more. Some of us have fell in love with the game so much that we have well over 200 hours in it.
Honestly it just depends on how much you come to love the game.
The game is also only about $25 US. So it’s a really good bang for your buck.
The general game play loop is you choose a weapon then choose a keepsake(once you have those unlocked) then start your escape attempt.
You battle your way through the hoard of undead and various bosses Hades sends your way.
You pick up various boons from your godly relatives to help power you up. You can collect gold, Max hp, hammers to upgrade your weapons and pomegranates of power to Lv up your god boons.
These are only temporary and go away once you die.
You can also get your various meta currency as stated above.
Once you die you get sent back to the house and you use your various meta currency to power up. You also talk to NPC’s to get more story.
In the beginning you will die a lot. Each time you make it to a new boss you will die a lot.
Get used to it. At least with Hades Dying is not total defeat.
It means you can take what you learned and try and go farther the next time.
While the gameplay itself is fun for many players. I think what draws and keeps most of us in is the Story, characters, visuals and sound designs.
The Lv of polish the game has is so great many have stated that Hades has killed or at least diminished there excitement of similar style of game.
Although in recent years plenty of other quality games in the rogue like genre have popped up.
One last thing before I go.
Here is an old comment of mine going over the mirror in extensive detail.
Useful tips for new players. Part 1
Useful Tips for new players. Part 2
Good luck, have fun and always remember,
THERE IS NO ESCAPE!!! EVIL LAUGHTER!!!
Awesome comment. Saved for when I rescue Hades from my switch backlog.
Not necessarily. The people who will criticise on most game subreddits will criticise things that aren't likely to have chased them away or put them off for playing more.
For example, I have a ton of things I can complain about in WoW and I can certainly make dozens of suggestions to make it more to my liking. But I still play it, and a lot of things WoW does are easily enough to put other people off - and with good reason.
You will get reliable criticisms often in the sense that they are making informed complaints and - hopefully (but not always) - are making suggestions for the game to better fulfil its intended purpose.
But you are not getting reliable criticisms in the sense that the criticisms are comprehensive as to the problems with the game that may apply to you. WoW doesn't respect player time nearly as much as most games, but that won't get brought up much on the subreddit by and large because as bad as it is now, it was much worse before. So if you ask if you should play WoW you'll hear about complaints regarding class balance or seasonal changes or maybe the contemporary story, but on /r/wow it's "the best MMO out there" and the other stuff that we already accept doesn't get brought up as much.
Now personally I don't see any issues with Hades I or II. I may have nitty gritty complaints about many other games I play but in general (good) single player games are very good at what they're designed for, and Supergiant Games produces great single player games. Hades II has more polish than many release games out there and it's in Early Access.
You will get a huge worth out of this game. The gameplay loop will keep you coming back.
Keep going. You'll run into a big guy with a key.
advance further until you meet the warden and slay that mf he will provide you with the key
The key from the Warden of souls, a bit further in. It's recyclable and reusable for later characters
It's one of those random items I kept in storage that made life easier
you need to have the key from the warden in your inventory
if you leave no enemy alive, you will eventually find the key.
There is also a (kind of hidden) majestic chest you only reach if you have the key. right by some cliffs, next to a door.
I can’t get over how cute your angry lil Zag is!
Honestly.
This is too accurate lmao
are you certain you have enough titan blood spent on the rail?
Late to the party but after 100%ing Hades (135 hours) I have to say that it's a 10/10 all-timer. Let's break it down:
Pros:
1/ Gameplay Loop: challenging and very satisfying. Certainly one of the best roguelikes I've played. Using your various currencies to level up after each run always gave me that "one more run" mentality that games in this genre are known for. The combats are fast and furious bullet-hells.
2/ Upgrade System: there are actually many systems intertwined here, from weapons upgrades giving them new abilities and better damage, to the Mirror of Night offering a plethora of run enhancements to trinkets giving you buffs and companions providing you help in tough fights. These are all well thought out and fun to level up. Learning what the various synergies are during each run was very satisfying.
3/ World-Building and Style: I love games that incorporate their game mechanics into the world in which they're set. Everything here is based on Greek mythology: Greek gods and characters, weapons, locations, etc. The game has style for days, including the killer soundtrack (I loved the distorted bass guitar that stands alone after completing a room).
4/ Characters and Writing: Equally good. Some great voice acting here, particularly from Hades and Megaera (her voice...does things to me). At first I wasn't so keen on Zagreus' VA (seemed too nonchalant), but he grew on me over the course of the game. The writing never feels cliched and the way the storylines feed into each other feels natural.
5/ The Absolute Shit-Ton of Dialogue: even after 135 hours and nearly 200 runs I was still getting new dialogue. Which was great since it helps motivate you after dozens and dozens of runs.
6/ The Heat system: After you defeat the final boss you can use the Pact of Punishment, adding certain difficulty modifiers to each run and allowing you to get further upgrades. They range from "it's fine" to "holy shit I could never". One of the trophies for 100%ing the game is to beat a run on Heat 16, which I managed to do by the skin of my teeth and 8 HP!
Cons:
1/ None that I can find!
Hades is a very easy recommend to fans of roguelikes, challenging games and Greek mythology.
I haven't gotten the 100% since it's a pretty long journey and I have a lot of games to finish yet, but Hades is a fantastic game, I played enough to get the actual ending and most NPC storylines to the end.
The artsyle, music and most importantly, gameplay, are 10/10 in my book. Really excited for the sequel, the only bad part is that it's on early access in PC and I have to avoid spoilers all the time till it gets finished and ported to consoles.
> I haven't gotten the 100% since it's a pretty long journey
As someone who loves the story in every other one of SuperGiant's titles, this was my main complaint.
The combat was 100% their best yet, but I felt like I had to go out of my way to find the story. When I know what SuperGiant is capable of, that really felt like a shame.
And I say that as someone who was nearly brought to tears by Pyre. Sure, we can dunk hate on its weird wizard basketball gameplay, but the story and character choices were killer.
I should note that the music is as fantastic as ever, though.
Hint for new players: Do not fall in love with a weapon. You have no idea what each weapon is truly capable of. Just pick whatever weapon has the darkness booster on it and have fun. I hated the gun but one run I randomly ended up with a missle machine gun lol.
Hades is best in class for making me want to try new things every run, starting weapon included. The ways it incentivizes you to do this are really effective. And every weapon that I don't think I'll ever mesh with, I eventually find a groove and have an awesome run (it was the boxing gloves for me, powpowpowpowUPPERCUT!).
Truly a crazy decision by the devs to map the right stick as reload.
Probably my only critique of the game, lol.
Like OP, I was very late to getting around to playing it (I saw the reviews, awards and audience love but I don't like roguelikes and I'm not good at games), but it's one of my favourite gaming experiences. I can't wait for Hades II to be complete (I don't want to buy it until then).
I saw a tip on reddit once that worked 100% for me. Look away from your screen such that Zagreus is in the corner of your eye. You'll register the flash a lot more consistently.
The end boss redacted on his 2nd form or whatever makes me sweat. I lose more than I win but it's always fucking exciting. Def a game that makes it apparent you are the one making mistakes and missing cues.
Yeah Animal Crossing is way tighter than Hades.
my one real complaint was I found it sagged a bit narratively in the fairly long period between "first 6 or 7 runs" (where they give you all the setup) and "first clear"
felt like it was paced for someone who got to that first clear quite a bit faster than I did. but the gameplay being fun carried me through that period anyway
The plot definitely slows in the mid-stretch, but I think the game does a good job of filling that space with tons of little character moments and side stories. I can definitely see someone more interested in the main plot not enjoying that kind of stuff as much though.
I think this has been improved a lot with Hades 2. There seems to be a lot more dialogue in general but I also found a lot of it seems more specific to things you did in your last run. As someone who played like 500 hours of Hades it only took me about 10 runs or so to get my first clear and I actually found I was getting backlogged in dialogue where they would talk about things I did/unlocked three runs ago. For a first time player I think it would easily take 20 - 30 runs for a first clear and I think the dialogue has been filled out to address that mid game slump that Hades 1 had.
That’s funny. I’m honestly shocking at this game. I’m on 45ish runs with two clears and my godhood is on I think 62% at this point. I don’t think I’ve ever not caught the fish. Must have 20 by now and it’s only reading this I find out you can fail.
This'll be just me talkin about my experience playing since I finally beat Hades on my 89th attempt and I'm kinda sad the journey is half over in a sense. After beating him I reflected back on all my old attempts and how fun and challenging it was to learn each area and boss. Every time I got a little farther there was another wall I'd hit, another thing I'd have to learn about, always something new to run back to. Now I've been to Hades like 7 times and beat him twice total. Now that I've learned the areas, figured out how I like to use the weapons, etc., its lost some of its magic. Even with the heat levels the game feels like its conquered to me. I really enjoyed progressing through this game and I will do it all again in Hades 2 (whenever that cones to console). I heard from a friend it takes a few times of beating him to get the full story and I'm not done giving those gods their nectar so I have that to look forward to, but still- I wish I could keep reliving the exploration aspect.
you haven't even seen the end credit yet, you still have Hades content ahead. Don't worry about finishing it, there is still a lot of stuff for you to enjoy.
Now you need to master all extreme measures enhanced boss fights, including hades himself. Oh, and try a boon less run.
I don't really agree with you saying even with heat content game is done. Heat changes the game a lot.
Beating the game at 32 heat is a lot different than 0 heat. And every weapon plays different factoring all those aspects. You still have a long way to go
I would strongly recommend branching out from your favourite weapon and build.
Embrace the game and have fun along the way.
not even close to done if you care about maxing bonds or getting the true ending lol
So much content left! I beat Hades for the first time over 200 hours ago and just got my last steam achievement today. 100 percenting Hades has been a blast!
https://youtu.be/rEJTPs6KsIU Found Raid chest while on the way back from hobgoblin
EDIT: I found another secret chest back from the Hydra boss you can find symbols on the things around the floating orb like the last one in the video I got 4ish or 5 out of 6 one does highlight and then un highlights when you walk away no clue what to do yet on that
can it be gotten from a fresh load-in?
I don't see why not its only on the way there and back
I'm on a fresh load-in rn and the first symbol is not there. Maybe you have to clear the encounter within the same instance and then do it on the way back?
I love raidsecrerts
I got all 3 secret chests last night. There's one in each traversal section after you beat the boss when on your way back to the beginning section. The spinning orb has 4 Nine symbols on it. Those are the 4 you have to find. They will stay lit when you walk away from them. If the symbol does NOT stay lit, then it's not 1 of the 4 you need. Once you light up all 4, the chest will spawn inside the orb.
And no, you cannot load a final boss checkpoint and go get them all. It has to be after actually beating each boss.
Hades 1 was fantastic and jumping to hades 2 was a bit strange because u are used to the first games visuals and combat but its a breath of fresh air. I highly recommend hades 2! Ive done only 7 runs so far but dont want to rush it because its early access still and im waiting for the offical release.
Definitely a wise choice. As much as i loved the dozens of hours I've already put into Hades II, I also kind of regret it a little bit because I've locked myself out of the full experience, in a sense.
The underworld is basically missing a few cutscenes as far as i can tell, but these are the most important part. Imagine beating the final boss in game 1 for the first time and NOT seeing the incredibly beautiful and emotional cinematic that follows.
Done achievements wise but you are barely scratching the surface in terms of content
No way that's barely scratching the surface. As someone who played for 200 hours, I'd say most dialogue ended at around 100 which this person isn't that far from. I guess there's a chance they haven't tried most builds and high heat, but we can't know that.
I've done up to 32 heat to unlock the third Skelly Statue. Definitely not a game im done playing, just thrilled to have finally gotten all of the Achievements!
No victory or first achievement posts or screenshots.
Of course it feels great when finally defeating [REDACTED], beating xx heat, unlocking something or earning an achievement. But consider if even 0.1% of users of this sub posted these experiences it would be a flood of low value content. These are not "obligatory" posts.
You can share that sort of content on the official Supergiant Games Discord server in the #hades-victory-boasting and #hades2-victory-boasting channels.
I am trying to unlock persephones, hypnos's, thans, and sisyphus. I completed the queens plan and she left but still have a locked heart. Will I ever be able to get it? Hypnos has impressed everyone with his work ethic and lists but nothing has happened. I got thans to locked heart and beat him a few times in the contest and nothing has happened. I can give bouldy nectar but haven't helped sisyphus as I don't know how. Can anyone give me advice?
Some of the final hearts are locked behind barriers, and you have to go do other things to progress. The game seems to throw different quest lines and stories at you at different times, and it seems each game will give you different stories at different points. I'm pretty sure there a strong element of randomness to how stories unfold each save file.
Talk to every character every chance you get. Give nectar and ambrosia to everyone you can. Eventually, everything will unlock.
I've given nectar and ambrosia to all that I possibly can, besides locked hearts.
That usually means there are other things you need to complete.
Have a look at the book of minor prophesies' for other things you can do. Get all the keepsakes and start working them to higher level. Build your bonds with characters. Unlock all the weapons hidden aspects and do a clear with them.
omg finally a post of same the problem as I had, >!I got the underworld & olympian god feast finished before being able to unlock persephone's 7th heart. Now with that one locked she's about to leave and I'm freaking out. Good to know she can still be back at some point !<(soon enough I hope).
Do you have Nyx's hearts maxed out? That's necessary for some of the story lines.
For Sisyphus, you might need to go find his contract in the Admin room, or buy it from the Contractor if you already found it.
I have done nyx, I how would I find sisyphuss contract? Is it apparent? Also, is nyx firing dusa part of her storyline or dusas. And will she ever come back. You dont have to answer the last question.
Dusa comes back eventually. That's part of Dusa's story.
If Nyx already told you where to find the contract, then it will be a glowing point you can interact with in the admin room. If she hasn't told you yet, then you have more dialogue to get through first.
The easy one to answer is that Persephone will be back. For the others you can look up the wiki to see how to unlock the hearts if you’re not satisfied with the answer ‘just keep playing’.
Watching others play the game, I see that they have access to pools of purging between regions in the underworld. I, however, only have a pool of purging for entering Tartarus, not between any other regions. I have completed all available incantations, and have the game 100% complete minus getting all duos, all godsent hexes, and a few trials. Is there something specific I need to do in order to have purging pools between regions?
Thanks guys, I just haven’t been purging in Tartarus cuz there usually wasn’t a reason to
Yeah, it’s kind of a weird design. I get the story/history reason to put the only pool in the entrance to Tartarus, but I so rarely had boons I wanted to shed by that point. Dropping boons earlier could help to shape the build, but you don’t really want to be making significant changes to it in Tartarus.
I do see it as a kind of last bit of extra cash in exchange for a random boon you picked up that doesn’t really add much to the build.
Not to hijack your thread but I don’t have a pool of purging available going into Region 4 of the Surface. Is there a separate incantation for that?!
I think pools of purging only appear in the underworld
You need to purge 3 boons to unlock the incantation
Sell stuff at the pool of purging, i think 3 times?
Holy shit how am I figuring this out like 400+ runs in
List of incantations: https://hades.fandom.com/wiki/Cauldron You need to purge 3 boons
My(36M) introduction to Hades was very lackluster, I thought this is a usual arcade themed, dungeon clearing, button smashing, hack n slash. Played it for a couple of hours, never paid attention to any art work/music. Uninstalled. Moved on to some other AAAs. Few months later, I keep getting youtube videos on Hades. Gets me interested in Character design and mythology. And, My niece is percy jackson fangirl and she feeds me tons of lore on mythology. All of it combined, I installed the game for her. This time with some lore and character understanding, everything fit into places. I was hooked. Me and her played this on weekends in and out(4th grade, school summer holidays). We put in 70+ hours over 3 weeks, and today finally I could beat [REDACTED]. Sadly, We have very poor gaming skill. I love the art work, character design, combat, music everything. This sub was very helpful, thank you.
Hell yeah!
Also don’t feel too bad about how long it took, I didn’t beat [REDACTED] til my like 68th run. Happens to all of us. 😅
My 101st run was the one I got him on.
I was SO proud of myself haha
Indeed. 73 runs.
It took me more than 100
You're not even halfway into the main story yet. And Hades is very skill friendly. You can just grind and raise levels in the mirror of darkness in your bedroom.
True, it feels like things are just set in motion. More interesting dialogue options opened up, I'm keeping few nectars with me all the time just so I don't miss any interaction.
Oh yeah, turn on God Mode via the settings if you haven't. I should've included that in my previous comment. My sister had no console gaming experience and this was the first game she picked up. It's pretty chill.
I finally killed him for the first time ever on the 51st run
You're the champ, it was 120th run for us. Possibly 60th run for me personally. I'm an uncle to 4 teens, they all take turns with me.
Once you get [REDACTED] for the first time, I think it gets easier.
Oh, it's just getting started now
I'm looking for a full list of all the tricks you can do, do have all possible interactions with the characters. I did find some scarce advices like >!beat the Hades with no boons, or beat Meg with no mirror!<, which is fun, but is there more? Is there a guide? Since I've done all prophecies, skelly trophies, achievements and relationships, there is not much to do in the game in terms of story and narration. So now I'm desperately looking for more of it! Can you help?
Thank you!
Pretty sure there is mod that shows special challenges you can complete in a run, like the first time you win, then that run is named "the first of many", but getting a list of all possible dialogues? A bit too much work
Pony QoL mod
disable pact reset button(kinda buggy on hard difficulty last time I checked), post boss weapon change, complete all bounties, story rooms
^^so it doesnt break anything or get too cheaty
There's one with the champions of Elysium if you have a yarn of ariadne on your inventory when you reach them
Also, after dying 300 times you get a special dialogue from hypnos
I just started playing about two weeks ago and i’ve killed hades about 6 times now, each and every time I see Persephone I feel so much hope yet also sadness knowing i’ll have to part with her again. What is so crazy about that to me is that this game almost effortlessly gets you enamored with it’s plot, even when most of the plot comes from conversations and gifting. It’s so endearing discovering the truth with Zagreus, I really love how we don’t know any more than him, we are really tagging right along with him the whole way. I still don’t even know how the game ends or anything, all I know is you go back to the underworld with Persephone. I feel like Hades is a good guy deep down too, ALSO DAMMIT IM MAD AT PERSEPHONE RIGHT NOW BECAUSE SHE SAID SHE DOESN’T WANT ME SEEING HER!
Yo OP! Good to know you're enjoying the game so much! There's still A LOT of content waiting for you and I'm sure you will love it all. Have fun, in the name of Hades.
Btw, we usually say "Redacted" here instead of His name in order to avoid spoilers for new players. Also, your post should have a Hades 1 flag, instead of Hades 2 (:
The "Redacted" thing is a super nice move by the community - saved me from spoilers several time when I was googling things a few weeks ago!
I really love how we don’t know any more than him
About that...
I have all of the hidden aspects but the bow and the gun but can’t find anyone to tell me the magic words. Please help!
Artemis tells you the bow and Zeus gives you the gun, just talk to them while holding the bow and gun respectively. You also need to have spent 5 Titan blood on both weapons for the dialogue to trigger
Thanks my dude! I will get on that!
No problemo.
You don't need to hold any specific weapon type to trigger the dialogues that unlocks hidden aspects. I've gotten that dialogue from Artemis using a sword aspect and from Zeus using the shield in a recent file. The only thing that matters is investing at least 5 titan blood into the weapon type that ISN'T the default aspect. The rest is just RNG, you could play the game for 60 hours and not trigger the dialogue for a certain aspect, It's all random on each new file.
Playing the game might help.
How do you unlock all the secrets in Hades
Unlocking Secrets in Hades: Key Considerations and Tips
Complete Runs: To unlock most secrets, you need to complete multiple runs through the game. Each escape attempt reveals more about the story and characters.
Interact with Characters: Talk to NPCs regularly. Many characters have unique dialogues that change based on your progress and relationships. Building rapport can unlock new quests and storylines.
Use the Codex: The Codex of the Underworld tracks your discoveries. Make sure to check it frequently to see what you’ve unlocked and what you still need to find.
Collect Keepsakes: Equip and level up keepsakes from various characters. Each keepsake has its own story and can lead to additional secrets.
Complete Side Quests: Pay attention to side quests offered by characters like Sisyphus, Patroclus, and others. Completing these can unlock new areas and story elements.
Defeating Bosses: Each time you defeat a major boss, you may unlock new dialogue and lore. Try to defeat them with different weapons and upgrades to see all variations.
Use the Pact of Punishment: After your first escape, you can use the Pact of Punishment to increase the difficulty of your runs. This can unlock new rewards and challenges.
Explore All Areas: Make sure to explore every area thoroughly, including hidden rooms and secret passages. Some secrets are only accessible through exploration.
Keep an Eye on the Mirror of Night: Upgrading your abilities through the Mirror of Night can change gameplay dynamics and unlock new strategies.
Recommendation: Focus on building relationships with characters and completing their quests, as this is one of the most rewarding ways to unlock secrets. Additionally, experimenting with different weapons and playstyles will enhance your experience and uncover more lore. Enjoy the journey through the Underworld!
