I have to use zoom meetings in a few days (haven't used for don't know how long) for some work thing. I'm not the host, I will only receive an invite for the meeting. Is there any way to change or blur my background? Through zoom itself, or maybe some other app?

Yes, in your zoom app settings.
Did you know you can change your background picture in Zoom? It’s easy! All you have to do is click on the gear icon and choose ‘Virtual Background.’ You don’t even need a green-screen for its technical magic to work its wonders.
I learned this amusing factoid just five minutes before a meeting with my work team.
I jumped into action: this was my opportunity to shine! I needed the perfect background picture, an image that would make my colleagues stand up and declare: “That is the best thing I’ve seen all day.”
What would I choose? I had limitless options and little time. In the end I settled upon a picture of a goofy looking giraffe's head. When placed as my background, it created the illusion that we were both supping upon foliage in an African jungle. The effect was utterly priceless to behold; the meeting could not come soon enough.
I clicked on ‘Join’, entered my meeting ID, and waited. My coworker Steve was already there.
Immediately, I was disappointed to learn that he also changed his background picture. Behind him was a flat, blue surface, framed by an American flag on one side and a podium on the other. With his head stuck in the middle, it appeared as though he was giving a White House Press briefing.
Steve had a shit-eating grin on his face. “Hey Jeff, nice giraffe,” he said.
“Thanks,” I said, my voice robbed of enthusiasm.
Then my co-worker Brad signed on and - of course! - he also customised his background picture. The scene that he presented was of an elaborate cave facility; just in front of him was an array of high tech looking computers and technical appliances.
“Hey Brad, where are you?” I asked.
“Can you tell?” he said and shifted his head to the right, revealing, for everyone to see, a locker containing Batman’s suit. “I’m in the bat cave!”
Steve rolled his eyes and I gave a polite nod.
“Who else are we waiting on?” Steve asked impatiently.
“Just Susan,” I said.
Just then another box populated my screen and Susan’s face appeared.
Unsurprisingly, Susan also changed her background. What was surprising, however, was her choice of picture. I expected a cluster of ridiculously adorable kittens, an image of a tranquil landscape or even a photo of her grandkids.
Instead, it looked as though she was seated at her desk in a poorly lit basement; behind her was a filth-lined grey brick wall. Strung up with chains and manacles, in excruciatingly painful positions, were three motionless men; they all wore torn rags and were covered in wounds.
“Hello everyone!” she said cheerfully.
I could see the look of confusion and disgust on both Brad and Steve’s faces.
“That’s a very unique background picture you have there Susan,” Steve said.
Susan looked perplexed. “I don’t know what you mean by that. I’m brand new to Zoom, and I’m still trying to figure it out.”
Brad threw his head back, laughing. “Oh Susan, this is too much. I gotta admit, I didn’t expect this from you! That is some quality comedy right there; that background is the best thing I’ve seen all day.”
Susan looked even more perplexed. “I don’t know what you’re going on about Brad.”
Brad abruptly cut his laughter short.
“Everything OK there, Susan?” I asked.
“Yeah, just gimme a moment,” she said. “This PC is ancient. I really need an upgrade.”
Behind her one of the bodies came to life and started violently thrashing about on the wall.
“One second,” Susan said, “My grandson is calling me. Back in one moment.”
The three of us watched in horror as she stood up, walked towards the back wall, and tightened the chains. Once more, the figure ceased moving.
“Alright, I’m back. Thanks everyone. Are we all all set? OK, let’s see here. Oh Jeff, great giraffe picture! I love it! It looks like you’re in the trees! You’ll have to show me how to do that once I buy a webcam.”
wait, if she doesn't have a webcam, how tf is she in the online meeting?
I don't think she realized her PC had one built in.
Next time tell Susan to click the camera icon :D then y'all won't be able to see her
That would make sense since she probably wouldn't willing allow her coworkers to see that
Built in camera? Doesn't know what one is? (Reaching to save OP)
Wait can you actually change your background tho
Yep I do it so folks won't see I'm on the bed
Yeah it’s possible
She's just keeping them safe at home!
She destroyed the 2 meter rule though
Poor Susan. It's hard being a stay at home grandma AND juggling a remote office job. At least they're all staying safe by keeping indoors
Best to keep her in the dark with the background thing bro, you don't wanna join her grandsons anytime soon
Due to the pandemic-that-cannot-be-named, some of us are taking online classes. Using the zoom app. And although it is a random app nobody had heard of, it does have a cool feature. Green screen or not, you can change your background.
Change your Zoom background on the desktop app
In the Zoom app, click your profile in the top right corner, and click Settings.
On the menu to the left, click Virtual Background.
You'll see a few default background options provided by Zoom, including an outer space scene or blades of grass. You can choose one of those by clicking on it, and it will automatically change your screen as well. There's also an option for if you have a green screen and want to use that.
If you want to upload a photo to use as your background, on the same Virtual Background Page, click the + icon next to where it says Choose Virtual Background. A box will pop up allowing you to upload a photo from your computer. Click on the one you want, and it will appear alongside the other pictures as an option for you to choose from.
To get rid of any photos you upload, tap the X in their top left corner.
Change your Zoom background on the mobile app
When you log into your account and join a meeting, tap the three dots at the bottom right of the screen to open the More menu.
Tap Virtual Background.
Select a background from the default options, or upload your own.
Another Zoom tip: Add a beauty filter
You've probably heard all of the work from home advice by now -- wake up on time, shower, get dressed like it's a day at the office. But if it's one of those days where you don't think you're looking your best, Zoom has an answer: a feature called Touch Up My Appearance. Basically, it's a softening filter, like you'd find on Instagram, Facetune or your phone's selfie camera.
To turn it on, click the up arrow next to Start Video. Click Video Settings, and under My Video, check the box for Touch Up My Appearance. That's it!
I DO NOT RECOMMEND ZOOM.
There are massive security concerns about this company, and overall that they say it very deceptive.
Fake End to end Encryption || Pretending not to route data through Chinese servers || Overall risk
I agree, it’s not safe for schools and all it takes is one leak and a ton of student’s (18 or younger) info will be leaked.
It’s not safe for anyone, my friend has had £100+ take from his PayPal when he started using this
Can I change or blur my background during meeting on an iPad?
iOS Sign in to the Zoom mobile app. While in a Zoom meeting, tap More in the controls. Tap Virtual Background. Tap the background you would like to apply or tap + to upload a new image. ... Tap Close after selecting the background to return to the meeting.

I selected tap more and virtual background was not an opition
Are you on an enterprise account? Admins could have turned it off. Look at that support article.
This app is an AI powered app removes all unwanted background noise and echo from your video call You won’t sound underwater or distorted anymore. It's free to use and available on win and mac. This app helped me alot so i wanted to share it with you. If you like you can download it from here : https://urlshortner.org/s9CSq
Thank you. Do you have that can change the video background?
I just used it with my class. All the students set their background to where they wish they were right now. We then talked about why they selected that image. Some conversations were fun and goofy, others were more deep and serious, but I think it was a great way for students to talk about what they are going through right now in a less intimidating way.
To set a background, click on the arrow next to the video sign in the bottom of the screen. There is an option that says 'choose a virtual background.' You can upload any image you want and voalá!
Edit: just thought of this, but I think it can also be helpful for students who don't want to show their room/house for any reason.
We are required to use Google Hangouts. I wish this were an option! Can I make video recordings with Zoom rather than just live chats?
Check out Screencastify. They are giving free premium access during all of this. It will record your screen/lesson and it also can record your webcam so they can see you in the bottom like an online streaming gaming video might look.
You can record your live chat and download it, but I don't think you can just record. I'm not too sure tbh
Thank you!
Can you use it to record videos or just live chats?
You can record your live chat and download it. If you want to edit it, I guess you can use another app.
Thx for the clarification. Hope my district does some pd for this!
Is zoom, or any virtual learning, mandated by your district?
I don't teach in the States, but there isn't a mandated app to use where I am
When I tried it only worked a little (a section of the wall behind me is green) and when I uncheck “I have a green screen.” It tells me my computer doesn’t meet requirements. So it might not work for everyone.
Anyone know how to make a still photo appear when you aren’t on video?
Hi,
do any of you have ideas for zoom backgrounds besides blurring or filters? Is there a way to have a set up behind me in an open room that looks professional and doesn't show the rest of my place.
Thank you
I just have nice shelves behind me with neutral decors and plants.
Hi there, I have one of these.
I printed a standing banner with my company’s logo. You can design it any way you’d like (it doesn’t have to be just your logo). There are a few different sizes depending on what you need. When they’re on sale and/or with a coupon code, you can usually get them here (or elsewhere) for under $100. https://www.vistaprint.com/signs-posters/banners/standing-banners
You can search for Zoom backgrounds for meetings. bookcases are good. Or search blurred Zoom backgrounds. Also I purchased room dividers from Amazon—all white and a black and white one. I switch them out based on the season/my mood. I have the divider up just in case my Zoom background doesn’t work.
I have a meeting tommorrow, I have never used zoom before, Im hoping the option to blur your background is not something that can be disabled by the host, I dont want people seeing my bedroom.

Backgrounds are an option which admins can allow or not allow. Some hosts disable that because it has been used to show dicks.
Blur is a option that is available to all users. But, be careful to not move forward and backward much if you want to completely hide your bedroom much because the blur feature is imperfect in figuring out what is background and what is foreground.
As others mentioned it can be admin disabled.
But also your device must support the functionality.
If your admins disable the option, use a 3rd party app that enables backgrounds and choose that app as your camera input in Zoom.
P3 ultra user here. Yes it supports virtual background in zoom.
Technically, yes, but not easily, and I don't think through zoom itself.
If you recorded a call, you could edit that video through another program to replace the background.
If you are planning on doing this with something that hasn't been recording yet, the easiest thing would be to replace your background with a solid green. Then you effectively have a regular green green video, and you could edit it with just about any video editing software that supports chroma keying.
It would be technically possible to do this to video with a normal background, but it might be very expensive and/or time consuming. I'd ask about it in a video editing or visual effects forum.
I think I worded it wrong. I want to put a background or overlay as they say behind my video. So you will have both videos myself and the guest, and then I wanna put that video on top of the background or have an image behind those two video screens.
Is it possible, yes. Is it easy and straight forward, no. You'll need to buy a really nice video editing software, learn how to use it, then do the editing. Or hire it out, which would be quite expensive. Good Luck!
Here is an Example
I'm late to the party, but I just found this sub.
Yes, that's a pretty easy edit. There's a learning curve to any new software, but there's free programs out there like DaVinci Resolve or Hitfilm Express that would make this fairly easy.
Basically you would make the graphic as a background then add the recordings as "layers" on top of it.
Or if you know how to make your graphics with an alpha channel, you could make it your top layer. There's plenty of ways to skin a cat.
You can do this by setting the original video as the background and then recording a new meeting. This will only work if there's enough space to add yourself on the side. If not, you'll have to use an editing software to add blank space then follow the above process.
