TL;DR To clean false eyelashes, use micellar water or alcohol to remove glue and debris, followed by gentle brushing and drying.
Tools and Materials
Cleaning false eyelashes requires a few essential tools: makeup remover or micellar water, cotton swabs, tweezers, and a small bowl. Some users also recommend using isopropyl alcohol for disinfecting [1:1]
[3:5]. A lash brush or clean mascara wand can help fluff the lashes after cleaning
[5:2].
Step-by-Step Cleaning Process
Soaking: Place the false eyelashes in a small bowl filled with micellar water or a mixture of micellar water and regular water. Let them soak for a few minutes to loosen the glue [2:1]
[4:1].
Glue Removal: Use tweezers to gently peel off any remaining glue from the lash band. Be careful not to damage the lashes themselves [3:1]
[4:4].
Disinfecting: Spray the lashes with alcohol to cleanse them without losing their shape. This helps remove any residual makeup and ensures the lashes are sanitized [5:1].
Drying and Brushing: Lay the lashes on a paper towel to dry. Once dry, use a lash brush or clean mascara wand to comb through the lashes and restore their fluffiness [5:1]
[5:2].
Additional Tips
By following these steps and tips, you can extend the life of your false eyelashes and keep them looking fresh for multiple uses.
Hi all!
Looking for ways to clean and reuse my fake eyelashes! Any tips and suggestions appreciated!
TIA!
I usually dip a q-tip in alcohol and roll it across the band and lightly on the lashes. It does a good enough job of removing glue and debris from the band and disinfecting the lash, without compromising the material. I don’t use mascara on my falsies though, so that helps make clean up easier.
I like to soak mine in micellar water for a minute or so and then use a tweezer to pull off any glue and use a cotton bud to wipe along the lashes and get mascara off. I only use synthetic lashes!
In order to extend the repeat life of false eyelashes, cleaning false eyelashes has become a critical step! How to clean it in the face of fake eyelashes that have just been removed? At this time you need to prepare the following tools: make-up remover / cleansing oil, false eyelashes to be cleaned, a cotton swab, a small bowl, a scorpion. After the preparation is complete, you can start to take a beauty bath for your beloved fake eyelashes!

Step 1: Put the false eyelashes into a small bowl, then pour the appropriate amount of makeup remover (no false eyelashes), soak for 5-10 minutes;

Step 2: Use a small cotton swab to gently poke the place where the glue and mascara are stuck on the false eyelashes. You will find that the dirty things are slowly dissolved.

Step 3: For the part of the eyelash stem with thick eyelash glue, you can use the small tweezers to slowly tear off the eyelashes. Step 4: Put the cleaned false eyelashes into warm water and gently light them with a small tweezers. Swing, rinse and put on a paper towel to dry.
So I’m typically the type of person to reuse lashes, especially when they are super high quality in which case I’ll wear them a couple of times. The problem though, is the lash glue that’s stubbornly stuck to the lash line of the falsies. This old glue gives a shine, highlighting the glue itself. What can I do to clean the lashes better and preferably remove the glue without damaging the falsies too much?
Take a bowl and fill it with one part miccellar water, one part water. Let the pair soak for a few minutes. Take out and place on a paper towel and with a pair of tweezer you can peel off leftover glue and eyeshadow. And with a q tip, wipe away any eyeshadow on the actual lashes themselves. Comb them with a spoilee brush when everything is clean and set them in the case to dry for an hour or two.
That's how I clean them! Hope this helps!
Great technique! Thank you so much!

I have no clue what products work best for them, and it’s expensive buying new ones too. I’ve trued garnier micellar cleansing water (waterproof formula) but it just distorted the shape completely and there was still glue clumps.
I use ardell. I just gently peel the glue off with my fingers. I don’t ever wash or clean them and usually throw them away every 3-4 weeks depending on what shape they’re in. I only use mascara on my natural lashes to blend them in.
I use a tweezer to remove the glue and that's it but If I use anything liquid like warm water or a wet wipe I ruin them completely
I would use warm water and then spray with alcohol when done. I buy those little travel spray bottles from target they’re like $1.
I always put on mascara before lashes as it can ruin the falsies. When I take them off I just gently peel the glue off
Soak in alcohol. It’ll soften the glue and you can just peel it away afterwards. Then leave them to dry.
Like rubbing alcohol?
Yes, 99% isopropyl alcohol.
If you wear contact lenses take an old case (or any other small circle shaped bowl/container), and fill it a tiny bit with micellar water. Fold the lashes into a “U” shape and let the band soak, then you should be able to just roll the glue off with your fingers.
I don’t put mascara on my false lashes, and only have to clean the band, so this helps them be reused many many times!
Ive had them for a week now, but overtime dried glue and old makeup builds up on the roots of the lashes. You cant see it when i wear them, only by themselves. I dont know how to remove the dirt from the roots and its driving me insane
How the lash firmly and gently pick excess glue off the band, wash with a gentle soap or makeup remover, then rinse and pat dry. The key to making lashes last longer is avoiding getting glue on the lashes themselves and keep it only on the band 💓 try 3rd Floor Beauty if you're looking for a biodegradable lash so you don't have to feel so bad when you do need to buy new ones!
I use the magnetic style of eyelashes. But have the same problem. Usually what I do is use a makeup wipe to help clean them. It helps but doesn't fully clean them.
Usually, when the glue builds up on the ends like that, I'm able to just pull it off with a tweezer and gently use makeup remover for anything left on the lashes. I'm no lashes connoisseur but they end up looking pretty darn good in my opinion
They make lash shampoo to clean fake lashes… I can’t recommend one as I don’t wear fake lashes. But I do know it exists
the first thing is being careful when you apply them and learn how much glue is just enough, and to place them carefully so the glue doesn't end up where you don't want it.
when you remove them the glue will be hard enough to pull it pinching it with your nails or tweezers. most of the glue can be taken off this way. what i usually do after is place them in a small container like a tiny plastic box and let them swim in a bit of micellar water, shaking and rubing them until the makeup is off.
when they're clean i comb through them with a brush and place them in their box so they retain their shape.
eventually they will start to lose their shape and look ugly, it's unavoidable, depending on how much practice you have and how well you're able to clean them you will be able to wear them three days or ten.
I recently got some faux mink lashes. Unfortunately, the first time I tried to apply them the lash glue slipped and I got lash glue on the hairs of the eyelashes :( is there anyway to clean the glue off so they’re still wearable without pulling out the lash hairs?
Use a Lash Brush to remove any dirt, dust, and/or leftover makeup which could be a hazard to your eyes but after Wash your Lashes in Warm Water and Soap or if their not too dirty you could just soak them in Warm Water then after dry then brush them out to fluff them! :))
Working as a makeup artist I learned a few tricks.
Take a spray bottle with alcohol, some paper towels, tweezers, and a couple clean mascara wands.
Lay the lashes on the paper towels and spray the hell out of that lash. The alcohol is going to cleanse the lashes without making them lose their shape.
Take another layer of paper towels and lay them on top of the lashes and spray the hell out of it.
Let it all sit and then the glue will easily come off by pulling it off the strip with tweezers very carefully as to not pull apart the band.
To get off glue residue on the lashes brush them with the clean mascara wands (you can get them cheap on Amazon or at a beauty supply store) and let them sit and dry.
I've kept lashes for about a year with this method and they look as bomb as they looked when I got them :)
Thanks so much! I’ll be sure to try this out
I've been using Ponds Cold Cream and a q-tip to work them off but I can imagine that's bad and it might ruin the false lashes if I ever want to wear them again because I wouldn't exactly know how to go about cleaning them up after.
What do you use and any other tips would be useful too as I'm still new to this. Thanks! :)
I gently pull off my lashes with my fingers or tweezers. I pull off the glue from the band if I intend on reusing them. Always make sure the remove any remaining glue on your eyes though, I got lazy once and ended up with a stye. Learned my lesson real quick.
How do you get the glue loosened up?
On the band itself I just pick at it with my nails or a pair of tweezers. On my skin I use a cleansing balm and follow up with cleanser. I spend extra time around my lash line and do a close inspection afterwards.
I don’t use any product I just gently pull them off.
I would be too scared I'm going to pull my eyelashes off with it. I'm still pretty new at this tho

They have lash brushes on Amazon and your lash person should have soap that's safe for your lashes.
Lukewarm water with a little drop of shampoo then gently dry with a towel x
You want a clear shampoo, not one of the creamy ones that look like a conditioner. That way it doesn’t leave a film on that lashes that can irritate your eyes
Strip lashes I pull off as much glue as I can, then 70% rubbing alcohol and qtips. Lay the qtip parallel to the lash band amd kinda twirl the glue off. Brush out with a spoolie or old soft toothbrush
I work as a performer in a nightclub and wear false lashes every weekend. I now have a permanent line of black lash glue (I use Sephora brand) on my lids and none of my usual removers are doing the trick. I use a combo of neutrogena wipes, Alba Botanical face wash, and rose hip oil. Still left with a thin line of glue after all that. I’d rather not use baby oil, as I have very sensitive skin and mineral oils around my eyes tend to worsen my dark circles. Any products work for y’all? Many thanks!
I typically use micellar water and it does wonders for even the toughest makeup. One time I was bored and lash glued a bunch of rhinestones to my face and it took everything off. Maybe you could also try a different brand of lash glue?
I’ll try this! It’s a double edged sword though- This glue is the ONLY brand I’ve found that keeps my lashes on for a double show night, but on the back end it does not. come. off.
Tarte’s will keep mine on for literally days if I let it. They have black and clear but I very much prefer clear. Unless you get it everywhere thickly it really doesn’t show on the lash line at all - I don’t even wear eyeliner with the lashes
Could try the DUO black lash glue, it’s a god sent for me and I’m an MUA.
Me too!!!! And jojoba oil!
Put the coconut oil on a q tip and rub gently along the lash line. Should come right off.
Cold cream, followed by washing with dove sensitive skin bar soap. Takes off very stubborn eyelash glue, latex or other sticky stuff (glitter)
Yesss glitter is also an issue...many thanks!
Vaseline and then pick it off with your fingers
Garnier micellar water blue bottle with cotton pad. Rub it in circular motion
Coconut oil
I just used this last week to pry off some lash extension that were getting wonky and it worked! If it can maneuver that glue, I'd bet it will work on your lash glue residue! :)
I have never attempted to use false eyelashes or even had them on before. I'm genuinely curious whether you can still wear them again or is it more like a one-time use?
You can reuse them. Just make sure you clean them (q-tip and micellar water) and store them properly (I usually just put them back in the package)
I don't reuse them more than 3 times, but some people wear them like 10+ times before throwing them away.
Yes you can wear them multiple times just make sure you clean them after each use! You can search up tutorials on how to clean them.
Thanks! I'm planning to try it on soon, I'll keep this in mind. ❤️
Just echoing what everyone says but I can really reuse lashes 20+ times if I take good care of them. So they last me months. Haha
I will reuse them a handful of times and then buy a new pair.
You can wear them until they fall apart or get nasty. Remove the glue, eyeliner, mascara, etc when you take them off and put them either in the original packaging or even those little cases for lashes to help them last longer.
You can use really any makeup remover or soap to remove the makeup and glue. I prefer using a cleanser or a liquid type of makeup remover to get them clean. After a few uses (like 3 or 4) I'll take some dawn on a damp q tip and clean the band to get any excess glue off, as a refresh and they're basically back to new.
I don't wear falsies often so I have like 10 pairs and I've worn 2 or 3 of them 2 or 3 times in the 1.5 - 2 years I've had them.
Yesterday I was putting some mascara on but after a while it kept on getting really clumpy. I tried gently removing it since I had eyeshadow on but it wasn’t working. I ended up giving up and taking all my makeup off and restarting which made me late. Any help is appreciated!!
Metal eyelash combs can help!
comb through your lashes (while they're still wet) with a clean spoolie.
Brush your lashes with a clean spoolie after aplying mascara
Yes! My lash lady told me to do this to help maintain my extensions and I realized I could probably do this for mascara clumps too. I don’t have extensions anymore but I don’t clump either.
Yes, I second this! I also do this to shape the lashes if they're a bit off.
I also do this before mascara sometimes and it helps prevent clumps.
The Sephora pro brow comb #21 metal comb side does wonders for your lashes
I use saline solution on a spoolie or a teeny bit of face moisturizer just to loosen up clumps so they can be brushed out 😃
how to clean false eyelashes
Here are some key considerations for cleaning false eyelashes:
Type of Lashes: Determine if your lashes are reusable (like mink or synthetic) or disposable. Reusable lashes require more care.
Gentle Cleaning Solution: Use a gentle makeup remover or a mixture of warm water and mild soap. Avoid oil-based removers as they can damage the lashes.
Cleaning Method:
Drying: Place the cleaned lashes on a clean towel to air dry. Avoid using heat sources like hair dryers, as they can warp the shape.
Storage: Once dry, store the lashes in their original case or a clean, dry container to maintain their shape and prevent damage.
Recommendation: Clean your false eyelashes after every use if you plan to reuse them, as this will help prolong their lifespan and maintain hygiene. Regular cleaning also ensures better application and appearance for your next use.
