TL;DR
Character Abilities and Power-Ups
Using Ms. Chalice can provide a significant advantage due to her double jump ability, which feels like a cheat code for platforming bosses [3:2]. Additionally, using power-ups such as P. Sugar can help avoid damage by allowing you to parry projectiles while in the air
[3].
Attack Patterns and Background Cues
Understanding the boss's attack patterns is crucial. During the final phase of battles, pay close attention to the background for attack cues, which can help anticipate and dodge incoming attacks [5:1]. This strategy allows players to react more quickly and maintain control over their character's positioning.
Weapon Choice
For the first playthrough against the final boss, using the Crack Shot weapon is recommended. This choice allows players to focus more on dodging and maneuvering rather than aiming precisely [5:1]. Crack Shot automatically targets enemies, freeing up mental bandwidth to concentrate on avoiding damage.
Trial and Error
Cuphead is known for its difficulty, requiring patience and persistence. Players often need to go through multiple attempts, learning from each death to improve their muscle memory and reflexes [4:3]. It's important to stay calm and keep trying different strategies until one works.
Additional Tips
If playing with Chalice, use her dash and double jump effectively to navigate tricky platform sections [1:1]. Saving your power to use Super 2 for an extra hit can also be beneficial
[1:1]. Remember that practice makes perfect, and even seasoned players have had to retry many times before mastering the game
[4:5].
I always die on the last phase because of the rumor honeybottoms platforming. Edit: just beat it! Now for an expert run…
Everytime you see a long gap between the platforms use the dash, if the heart of Saltbaker is coming right to you parry, try to save your power to use Super 2 which grant you an extra hit. If you see that you are gonna fall anyway and you have more HP try to fall to the pit, this will cause you do a high jump which you can use it to comeback to the higher platform, also since Chalice jump more shortly than Cuphead & Mugman try to always use double Jump.
Ok thanks. Edit: I beat it tysm
I finished Cuphead in a week, and im pretty sure it's my second favourite game (rdr2 is first if you're wondering, but I enjoyed Cuphead so much that it's possible it was more enjoyable then rdr2 (didn't beat rdr2 yet.)).
And i will rate some of the bosses i enjoyed the most...
Werner Werman, something about this boss was so charming. It felt so simple and a breath of fresh air with the sound track absolutely killing it! Just beacuse he's the worst on the list doesn't mean he's an enjoyable bossfight.
Grim Matchstick, 6 or 7 years ago, when Matchstick was considered the hardest boss fight in the game.. his bossfight is probably the most unique out of the all normal bosses. His soundtrack is alright.. but his animations are just perfection. And his final intimidating phase is a cherry on top.
King Dice, he is just cool. The way the is the last bossfight before the last bossfight is pretty cool, and the way we fight his minions along the way? DAMN! And we all died atleast once because his cards were unexpected.. also, one of the best soundtracks in the game!
Cagney Carnation, do i even have to explain myself? The best bossfight in inkwell isle I, if not one of the best bossfights in the game. His soundtrack is pretty much the best and the most iconic, his bossfight fits the intense difficulty and soundtrack when we were fighting him for the firsts time. A beautiful flower, and a beautiful bossfight.
The devil, the last bossfight, the best visuals, attacks, difficulty, creativity etc.. for me. When i got on his second phase for the first time.. the soundtrack and bossfight got EVEN BETTER LIKE SHEESH!!! And harder.. ofc. And the way his final phase is so short and easy, but we would be 90% 1 hp would make the bossfight even more intense and stressful.. perfection!
And that would be it, if you did read all of this.. well thanks! I'm just very passionate about this game and i didn't regret typing all of this.
I hope for Cuphead 2
That can wait 😭
me too I think The Devil get Revenge on Cuphead Mugman and Ms Chalice
Yeah... Studio MDR already said that would never happen
Awesome :D glad you enjoyed the game :D. If you haven't. Please consider getting the DLC. Its incredible
Off you go with the DLC! Short but just as sweet
Congrats! I agree with your top bosses, i would have picked cala maria and beppi. I just finished the game about a month ago myself. I loved it so much I got the DLC and actually started watching the cuphead show on netflix, its so good!!! I recommend checking it out if you loved cuphead that much.
I finished watching it ever since it came out;]
gg
(Repost - last attempt uploaded a still image instead of video)
Another boss fight with a ton of randomness thrown in. At first, it was overwhelming, but I was able to develop strategies for each phase and stay calm. I knew when I got to phase 3 of this attempt, that I was going to nab a perfect kill. Think I still got fairly lucky all around!
P. Sugar was helpful. This video doesn't showcase it, but in other attempts, it made handling some of the projectiles way easier. It's nice to be able to avoid damage simply by being in the air.
im struggling with this one
If you have the dlc just use chalice. For platform bosses at the very least her double jump feels like a cheat code, compared to either plane where coffee would be better or regular ground where smoke dash could be more comfortable depending on your playstyle
I been using chalice, but my issue has been when she spits out the bee rockets lol
The only thing that every got me was her saw blade attack because by the time I noticed her making the face it was already too late to move 😄 my six year old son had to help me by saying "she's making the face"
yoo, W! its kinda jarring seeing a cuphead / mugman run though since i always use the cookie charm xD
I'm trying to beat the base game without any of the DLC bonuses before I move onto the DLC! Then I can't wait to give Chalice a try :)
I love how she chooses to turn into an airplane instead of anything else lol
Oi Oi Oi
My brother just got Cuphead yesterday in hopes of adding to our list of indie games we've played; little did the two of us know that this game was hard as balls. Bro, y'all make this look so fucking easy doing it without taking damage. HOW DOES ONE BEAT THIS DAMN GAME!!!
>HOW DOES ONE BEAT THIS DAMN GAME!!!
Infinite amounts of trial and error, building skills more and more across a period of multiple hours a day, trying new strategies, retrying old strategies,
and a WHOLE lot of dying.
imo the most satisfying part of the game is in your own skill progression. I’m stuck on the Devil in the base game, but I know I will beat him eventually - the fight is fair and it’s just a matter of fine-tuning my reflexes and responses, as it was for every other fight in the game.
I was looking at my boss fight scores and noticed that I got a B- for Goopy Le Grande and an A- for Dr. Kahl’s Robot, lol. The game truly does get easier with practice (and a lot of patience).
İn sekiro terms
Git gud
I think those are hollow knight terms...
Just git gud mate
Just kidding, the game is all about muscle memory, be cartain that these people that finish the game without taking damage, already died A LOT before being able to do this
I'll have to try several times before you remember "Now the boss will do this, now an enemy will appear here"
I'm currently s ranking the devil and king dice. P ranked and s ranked everyone else. I had a little under 500 deaths after a+ everything the first go round on normal (including the run n guns), and I did a ton of resetting. I'm sure I'm now over a thousand and I've still be resetting. It's also my first time playing lol
I won't even try to S rank everything, would like to, but my mental health is more important
So in other words…
Just git gud mate
It can be really hard lmao, I got it without knowing how hard it was and didn't play for months, honestly it's really hard to beat bosses the first time but you do get the hang of it, the people making it look easy have just been through the rounds
It is formally known as The Great Cuphead War in my house. 300 percent on all 3 saves. About 3 years ago. It is my greatest achievement to this day.
Why is it a war? Did it have any casualties? (smashed controllers do count)
At some point, you just become

If you aren’t already, for the first playthrough of the boss use the crack shot so you can focus more on your character. Also make sure to be checking the background for attack cues if you aren’t already. Other than that just keep on trying! You got this
Cuphead has been on my backlog for many years now. I love difficult games and have been eagerly awaiting a playthrough! This was the first boss that absolutely drove me up the wall with its randomness. It took me a while to even consistently get past phase 2, but once I did…it still felt like the randomness of it all would still overwhelm me.
I think this will be the rare game that I put in the time to perfect (S/P rank everything!)
Some things I learned:
Don’t attack too much early seconds of the fight. Let him keep eye beaming you for the parries. Once you do enough damage, he switches to sine-wave fireballs.
Super him early so that you can super him again in phase 3, when it really matters!
Stay up high the rest of the fight. The little flames jump from below, and the flamethrower attack is never aimed at the top clouds.
Stop auto-attacking when you’re dodging orbs in phase 3. Makes it easier to avoid them (and not make it worse by detonating them).
Cool to see someone else using charge shot. That's how I beat many bosses my first playthrough.
This is arguably easier on expert than regular
I use chalice and shield pal beacause I strugle to keep my hp up XD
Holy no hit
I just defeated him yeasturday!!!
Me and my bf are stuck. We get to the end with 4/5 lives and lose them all almost immediately. Any tips or tricks. This is so painful lmfao.
Haven't beat King dice but have gotten VERY close to beating him the trick is to get behind his hands everytime he starts spawning the cards
You can actually jump behind his hands whenever he gets ready to shoot the cards across the screen. That's how I best him, I'd go to one side and hope that his hand came down on the side I was on, then I'd run to the other side whils shooting him in the face
I can help you. All you need to do is HIDE. You see, there is a small space between King Dice’s hand and the other side of the screen. If you guess correctly which side he’ll use his hand on, you will be behind the hand, thus avoiding the attack entirely. If you want to hit him, take chaser and jump constantly in place, and your bullets should hit him
ohh this is sneaky. I'm definitely gonna try this. thank you !
As I posted above Dice mostly alternates hands each time. Only 1/8 on my success attempt did he use the same hand again.
Also it switched sides every time, but around the 6th movement it will stay the same Ex: left-right-left-right-left-right-right
No problemo!
When you get to the final phase don’t spam the jump button to parry, Time your presses
My strat was to use the seconds super (invincibility), by saving up through all the mini bosses, and using the invincibility to negate one full round of cards, while using spread shot + jumping for good damage, I also used the peashooter EX move in between for extra damage. I’d also advice getting a smoke bomb to help with maneuvering the cards. And also be good at parrying.
Hope this helps!
Definitely switching our supers to invincibility. We considered ourselves pretty good at parrying but I think we need to practice some more lol. The distance between them is just killer.
I like to parry near the edge of the cards so I can reach the next card easier, don’t try dashing to the next one. I tried, 90% of the time I overshot it
Appreciate the advice!
So I don’t think this is well known yet so yeah. The fight can be triggered again by standing in front of the middle tombstone and holding L+R (or LT+RT) for a bit, reactivating the tombstone. Currently it does not seems to work with keyboard control.
This is great because the achievements in this game are buggy. I beat the boss and didn’t get the achievement. I thought I’d have to play the whole game again.
I also killed a boss using Ms Chalice super and that didn’t give me the achievement. Plus it’s not tracking boss kills with her.
It took killing several bosses for me with the divine relic for paladin to pop, and many others seem buggy at the moment.
Lol I can't even beat that dumb dragon and a few islands 3 bosses so i have never fought king dice or the devil. I can't beat the game because I stink but at least I got the divine relic
Can confirm this works, I thought it was weird that there was a boss you couldn't rematch.
I assume the keyboard controls for doing this were either broken or they forgot to implement them, hopefully that will get patched in later.
It does work, trying to find a keyboard equivalent right now.
You Need Cursed Relic Then Talk To The Racers I Think From 1st To 3rd So For Example The First Guy Says "That Race Was Down Right Crazy!" So Now The First Grave You Press I Bottom Right
Oh Ik. I was talking about the way you’re able to fight them again lol
I Think You Do The Gravestone Puzzle Again
Yep, it's really working!
Thank you i was wondering
Ok so chef Saltbaker was not as hard as everyone said he was. On my third try I reached the last phase, and then I sucked until my twelfth try when I beat him. He is actually NOT harder than the devil at all. The devil literally took me 2 weeks of trying on an almost daily basis before I beat him. Matter fact, the King's gauntlet was harder than the chef (the Rook was my bane). All in all, the DLC bosses were way easier than the base game bosses, especially because of all the good weapons and perks that you already have + unlock. But I still absolutely loved the DLC, and I'd say it's absolutely worth playing. I started with ~2090ish deaths before DLC, and finished with 2175 deaths (most deaths came from the chess challenge fights, especially the gauntlet, and the secret nightmare fight). Personally, I didn't find playing as miss Chalice any easier/better than Cuphead except for the chess challenges and Esther.
For a strategy against the chef, I'd say play as Cuphead, equip the 2 extra hearts, crackshot as your primary, and chaser as the secondary (honestly didn't end up using the secondary). If you get hit more than 3 times on the first phase, just restart. Have at least 2 hearts for the jumping salt-statue phase cause chances are you'd get hit when it lands the first time. Don't get too concerned with parrying in the last phase, and save your super until when you're about to get hit.

how to defeat the final boss in cuphead
Defeating the Final Boss in Cuphead: Key Considerations
Know the Boss: The final boss, known as "The Devil," has multiple phases, each with unique attacks. Familiarize yourself with his patterns to anticipate and dodge effectively.
Upgrade Your Weapons: Use the best weapons for each phase. The Spread and Charge shots are effective for close-range damage, while the Lobber can help with projectiles. Experiment to find what works best for you.
Parry and Dodge: Master the parry mechanic to gain invincibility frames and build your super meter. Dodging is crucial; learn the timing of his attacks to avoid damage.
Use Super Arts Wisely: Save your Super Arts for critical moments, especially when the boss is vulnerable. The Invincibility Super Art can be a lifesaver during tough phases.
Practice Makes Perfect: Don’t get discouraged by failures. Each attempt helps you learn the boss's patterns and improve your timing and strategy.
