TL;DR To enable two-step verification on WhatsApp, go to Settings > Account > Two-step verification > Enable. You will set up a six-digit PIN and an optional email address for recovery.
Enabling Two-Step Verification
To secure your WhatsApp account with two-step verification, navigate to the app's settings. Go to "Account," then select "Two-step verification." From there, you can enable the feature by setting up a six-digit PIN that you'll need to enter periodically or whenever you register your phone number with WhatsApp [3:1].
Recovery Options
When setting up two-step verification, WhatsApp allows you to add an email address as a recovery option. This is useful if you forget your PIN or need to reset it. It's highly recommended to tie an email to your account for added security [2:2].
Understanding Verification Frequency
Some users have reported differences in how often WhatsApp asks for the two-step verification code. It might ask for the code every 24 hours on one device and weekly on another [3:2]. This behavior can vary depending on device settings or WhatsApp updates, but generally, it's part of the app's regular security checks
[3:1].
Troubleshooting Issues
If you face issues with receiving verification codes or suspect unauthorized access, contacting WhatsApp support is advisable. They can assist with recovering your account or resolving technical problems [1:1]. Additionally, ensure that your account isn't compromised by checking linked devices and changing passwords where necessary
[2:1].
Security Concerns
If you notice unusual activity or changes in your account settings, such as the two-step verification being turned off unexpectedly, it could be a sign of unauthorized access. Regularly check your account settings and linked devices to ensure everything is as expected [5].
I recently broke my phone and couldn't use it anymore so I took out my sim and put it in another old phone just so I could call and use WhatsApp. I managed to register my sim and WhatsApp was working fine. After repairing my phone I took the sim out from the old one and put it into my main phone which is when i couldn't register my sim anymore. I received the registration code and then was asked for the two step verification code which I know since I used to enter it very frequently before breaking my phone. But then the code was apparently incorrect. I'm very sure of the code I've been using since way back but it keeps saying incorrect. Unfortunately I didn't link an email to my WhatsApp so I can't reset it via email. Any solution to this? Or do I have to wait a whole week to reset my WhatsApp?
I'd try contacting WhatsApp support from this link:
My WhatsApp was hacked today again. It was hacked about a month ago and I got it back several hours later because when I requested verification code from WhatsApp, nothing would happen. I wouldn’t receive any text or even call from WhatsApp. But finally after several hours I was able to get verification code through call.
After this episode I turned on two step verification, tied an email address to my WhatsApp account, made a Passkey on my phone (so it would need my FaceID to unlock). My WhatsApp is not signed in on any other device except my phone (the one with the sim in it) .
I would keep getting requests for code on the app but nothing happened after that. I thought my account was secure. That is until today. I woke up and saw that a code had been requested. Then I opened WhatsApp and it had been logged out. I tried logging in again. It asked me to confirm that I want to switch from WhatsApp business. I confirmed, and then it said request code again after an hour. I tried again and chose call option and thankfully received a call so logged in again.
So why is this happening? And who do I contact for such a breach in security?
From your post history it looks like you have had some issues in the past as well.
You mentioned being on iOS, with iCloud sync there’s a chance PassKeys are synced across devices, so check that you recognise all the Apple devices linked to your apple ID, or potentially change the password for your apple ID + set up 2FA if you haven’t. this could be one of the ways to login on WhatsApp without a code.
Were there any other clues to indicate that you were hacked this time or was it just the log out? I.e did attacker reachout to anyone or change any setting?
Not receiving SMSs from WA could just be hitting the limit for registration attempts. Try starting registration of your WA number on another phone or WA biz when no notifications have been received to see if you do receive the sms code, to confirm your SIM can actually receive WA messages.
Check Settings -> General -> Software Updates to make sure your device is up to date
Check Settings -> Mobile Service -> Mobile Data Network to make sure those settings look like the real ones from your provider.
Check Settings -> General -> VPN & Device Management for any profiles installed you don’t recognise?
Do you trust your usual wifi networks?
Seems like a targeted attack since the attacker keeps coming back to your number. Usually once they gain access they’ll reach out to friends and family quite quickly asking for money or passing on scamming / phishing links etc.
The fact that you never seem to receive WhatsApp SMSs makes me worry that there might be a SIM swap or a transfer number to another operator that was done incorrectly. Did you have this same number before you got the new SIM in October, along with the new phone? Or is it also a brand new number?
Moreover, did you have WhatsApp before October or did you use the Change WhatsApp Number feature?
Thank you so much for reading my post and also replying.
My iCloud is signed in to only two devices and both are with me. My phone, and my watch. 2FA is set up. But yes I will change the password.
On the previous hack, the hacker deleted my WhatsApp account. During the latest episode, they switched my account to WhatsApp business (know that because when I logged back in, WhatsApp asked if I want to switch from business to normal). That’s how I know it was definitely hacked. But both times my WhatsApp was hacked, the hacker did not reach out to anyone. When it was hacked last month, my husband texted my WhatsApp and the hacker replied with an emoji (and then proceeded to delete my account).
I’ve been trying to sign into my WA account with another phone to check if I can receive SMS, but every time it says “try again in 7 hours” so idk what to do.
I’ve checked the settings you’ve mentioned and all seems good. This number is brand new. No network transfer etc. I had to dump all my old devices and sims. So I went to a store, got a new phone, then got a new sim to install in it. It’s an eSIM if that makes any difference? Currently only my immediate family has this number. WhatsApp is also a brand new account that I registered on the new sim (as in it’s not an old account I changed numbers on).
If it matters, where I live SIMs are attached to your national ID. What’s worrying me is that this number is being attacked because it was traced to me through my ID.
I’m going crazy thinking of all this 😫

Installed WhatsApp on my S7 Edge. After enabling 2 step verification, WhatsApp is asking for the 2 step verification code every 24 hrs.
I have WhatsApp installed on my Samsung Galaxy Note 9 as well but WhatsApp asks for 2 step verification code once a week.
Can anyone help me with this???
Thanks.

That is WhatsApp's regular behaviour.
That I know. But does it require to verify every 24 hrs?? That's my question.
Making this post to help anyone else who might have had this same issue since it almost gave me a panic attack.
A while ago, my Facebook account almost got hacked, but I was able to recover it and change my password. Now, I came to find a few months later, actually yesterday, that the hackers email was still attached to my account. To remove it, I had to go through 2 step verification. It sent it to a whatsapp. I didn't have whatsapp, so I immediately freaked out. Went to go change the 2nd step verification and... It needed the whatsapp to remove the whatsapp. After digging through support and finding absolutely nothing useful, I resorted to googling it, and after a VERY long time, I was able to realize something. A post on reddit here said something about making a whatsapp account. After this, I found that the number it sent that whatsapp message to had the same last numbers as mine. All you need to do is make a whatsapp account. Just download the app and you're all set.
TLDR: Do you get a whatsapp message sent when you try to change your 2 factor but you don't have whatsapp and therefore don't get the message? It's not a hackers whatsapp like I thought. Install whatsapp under your number and you'll get it there.

the problem is I have WhatsApp that is under my number but there's still no code I try multiple times nothing happened and there's still no code
So can your 2 step verification code on whatsapp just turn off or does someone turn it off? Curious because I logged in and suddenly I'm asked what I'd like to back up instead of my 2 step verification code. I have a Fan B@#$* that's always hacking my everything and I was wondering if access was granted via another device. I just wanted to be sure because if WhatsApp just deleted a 2 step verification code then what good is it. TIA
Ok
Yesterday When I was setting up WhatsApp in my new phone, I got a OTP from a unknown sender named BH-MASTGO.
The text read : " Your otp is : 6 digit number".
That's it. There was nothing else in the OTP message received except this. I did login using the OTP and found my account to be working properly.
I have deleted my account 2 times to trigger the same OTP response and from BH-MASTGO, I did receive another OTP text and another from a number , with proper " Your whatsapp code is:" text in the message.
Could the sender "BH-MASTGO" be a hacker/scamster?
It just happened to me too. I received notification that I request security code. Via sms and also whatsapp
Please ENABLE THE TWO STEP VERIFICATION in Setting > Account > Two - step verification
You may want to alert whatsapp at support @whatsapp.com
But this notification was because I requested it.
I triggered the OTP response and It's just that I don't know about the authenticity of the sender of the OTP, even when the OTP works !
In my case the OTP was automatically detected by whatsapp so i dont need to enter it manually. If thats the same case as you. You should not be worried
I see you commented on my post on WhatsApp security scare too. BH-MASTGO's OTP did not work for me and I have strong reasons to suspect that my account has been hacked. Please check my answer for more information.
I saw the updated thread just now.
I deleted my account twice and in the morning when I tried to login again, I received the OTP from
BH-MASTGO, and it worked.
I don't know what to make out of this.
Did you click any link in the OTP messages recieved?
I clicked on a link yesterday. Redirected me to WhatsApp's webpage. I need to further update my thread, I got to delete my account.
I'm not sure whom to trust anymore. If BH-MASTGO worked for you, good! Just take care and keep an eye out for suspicious activity.
The same thing happened to me too. I am afraid that my phone is hacked or not. Did you click any suspicious links on that phone?
No, I have not. Tell me one thing. Did you receive the whatsapp code after you'd requested it? Or you received the code without even asking for it?
I recieved it after requesting for otp.
My whatsapp got hacked and i got signed out but thankfully i was able to sign in and get the account back. However, for the past few days, i have been completely unable to enable 2FA no matter how many times I tried.
Please someone help and explain this issue
It is possible that the hacker may have set up a pin.
In such a case, it takes 7 days to reset a pin.
Thanks for replying but 2fa isnt even on
WhatsApp was hacked today again. It was hacked about a month ago (without me receiving or sharing any verification code) and I got it back several hours later because when I requested verification code from WhatsApp, nothing would happen. Remove the SIM card from your phone or get a different number for WhatsApp.
But how is it happening? Why should I have to get a whole new sim just for WhatsApp? And why wouldn’t this happen on the new number too
Valid point. I am just connecting the dots based on what you shared previously. You did already what can be done in regard to your WhatsApp account. Unless there is some malware / back door installed on your phone the issue comes from your SIM card.
Whoever is hacking you could do it again as soon as they know the connected phone number. This type of software should only be accessible by government agencies.
Delete linked devices, backup your wa chat, and reset your phone.
And yes, you must disable link preview.
Have no linked devices, did not receive any links etc, link preview is not on anyway.
One possibility is that your sim has been cloned.
If I report this sim as stolen and get the same number reissued again, would that solve this problem?
Maybe. I got cloned/hacked a couple months ago and it kept happening so I got a new phone, new number, new email and created ALL new accounts for everything Apple ID, google, etc…total pain. I had my same email for 28 years so I was more than miffed. But it stopped after I made a clean start.
I did get a new phone and new number (which is the number being hacked) but yeah my email and apple accounts aren’t new. Sounds very tedious having to change EVERYTHING 😩
Hi, I got 2sv activated for my psn account and I've noticed recently that the verification codes no longer arrive via SMS but on my whatsapp. Are my verification codes being intercepted ? Or is it normal and I'm worrying over nothing ? Btw the verification code senders are always random numbers which look like they belong to real people. I'm really confused about this situation.
Sounds fishy tbh
I know ! And what makes me more anxious is the fact that nothing suspicious happened with my account yet. What if there's really a hacker and he's currently planning something ? I seriously lived in the constant fear of being hacked until it seems to have really happened (I get very anxious whenever something unusual happens like my current situation with 2sv codes) I can't take this anymore smfh
Do one thing. Contact SONY and ask them if it's them by sending them screenshots of the 2SV. I mean I did enable it on my account too and I received it via text. If you have anyone else with a PS4 ask them to try it too. That would shed some light into this subject.
you probably integrated Whatsapp as your default message platform. Do you still get other texts outside of Whatsapp?
I checked the default platform and it's still the base SMS app. Not to mention this only happens with my psn account. My google 2sv codes still arrive via SMS.

(Whatsapp is not set as the default message app, I checked)
Sounds weird, could it not be psn’s preferred method of contact maybe?
I dnno too much, sorry
(Xbox player jus tryna help)
I don't think so, I've always received 2sv codes via SMS and I still rarely get the codes via SMS but I don't know if I'm safe or not. I'm really anxious about this type of stuff. (Fortunately nothing suspicious happened with my account yet but what if they're planning something ?) I don't know what's going on honestly.
Maybe change a few passwords if your worrying about it, or you country unlink your WhatsApp from psn if you can? It might send them back to your sms if it’s not.
