When it comes to choosing the best electric bike (e-bike) for someone who is 6'8", especially if they are interested in a specialized model, there are several considerations and recommendations from tall riders that can be helpful. Here's a detailed summary based on discussions from various Reddit threads:
Finding the Right Fit
For individuals standing at 6'8", finding an e-bike that fits comfortably can be challenging. Many standard bikes, even those with larger frames like the Trek Domane AL 3 disc at 61 cm, may not be suitable [2:1],
[2:3]. It's crucial to try out different models to ensure comfort, as some taller riders have found that even bikes marketed as XL or XXL may not provide the necessary fit
[2:11].
Research and Test Rides
Before purchasing an e-bike, it's advisable to test ride several models to determine which one suits your height and riding style best. For instance, a user who was 6'10" mentioned the difficulty of finding a road/gravel bike that fits within a limited budget [2]. Another user recommended checking out DirtySixer bikes, which are specifically designed for very tall people, though they tend to be more expensive
[2:7].
Customization Options
For riders who cannot find an off-the-shelf e-bike that fits, customizing a bike might be a viable option. This involves getting a frame that suits your size and building around it with appropriate components, such as a longer seat post or an aftermarket long stem [2:9],
[3:3]. However, this approach can be costly and may require some expertise in bike building
[5:7].
Specific E-Bike Recommendations
Several specific e-bike models were recommended by tall riders in the discussions. The RadRover 6+ was mentioned by a 6'6" rider as a comfortable fit [1:2]. Canyon bikes, particularly the XL and XXL sizes, were also suggested as options for taller riders, although they may not suit everyone due to stack height issues
[2:5],
[2:11]. The Specialized Creo in XXL was highlighted as a good fit for someone up to 6'8"
[5:6]. Additionally, DirtySixer makes bikes specifically for very tall individuals, ranging from 5'9" to 7'5" in height, but they are typically more expensive
[2:7].
Custom Solutions
For those who struggle to find a suitable off-the-shelf e-bike, custom solutions might be worth considering. Custom bike builders can create a frame tailored to your height and body proportions, potentially providing a better fit than standard models [5:7]. While this can be costly, it may be a worthwhile investment for your comfort and overall cycling experience.
In conclusion, finding the right e-bike for someone who is 6'8" requires careful consideration of fit, research into available models, and possibly exploring custom-built options. Testing different bikes and consulting with knowledgeable bike shop staff can help ensure you make the best choice for your needs.

The thoughtful Director's quest is so cute! Sadly I can't play it because Sky doesn't want to open :')
Im sorry to hear that, friend! Were you able to do it? It went okay for me
I’ve only see the traditional mission options when I’m on a bug planet.
Hive lords are practically guaranteed on D10 and only planets marked to have them. Hellmire is the only other planet I know of with them.
Caves are/were Oshaune only so if it's no longer open you will have to wait.
It's still open.
Ah, I personally never liked the caves so I avoided it.
Oshaune has both
Hive lords only show up on hive worlds (the only one of which we have access to being Oshaune) or planets that have them directly marked as a specialized enemy force similar to how predator strain is shown on the map. Cave maps are currently only on hive worlds (Oshaune).
Found it. That planet is really hard. I usually dive 10s and I had to pop down to 7s to have a chance with a team
We rented an Airbnb near Orlando for me, my husband, and 2 young kids (aged 4 and 3). Before check in, the host messaged us and asked if we could check in 2 hours late. They said the guests before us didn’t respect their checkout time so they were still cleaning the home. I said “no problem” and we checked in 3 hours later at 7pm. Immediately when we walked into the house, we were greeted by a cloud of marijuana smell. It was very strong.
Within the first 2 minutes of being in the house, we found 3 large shards of broken glass that had not been cleaned. We immediately contacted the host. The host stated that the previous guests had actually had a party and that they tried to clean it all up, but it was just so messy that they had a hard time. They told us to send images of what we found. They also offered to bring us air fresheners, to have the cleaning team come back in (at an unnamed point in time), and to come back and run the ozone machine again the next day.
Then, maybe 20 minutes later, we found at least 2 used joints and marijuana packaging inside the house. We also found trash under the beds, an acrylic nail, hair balls, etc. We message them all of this and the host is basically unhelpful, and states that they have 24 hours to fix it. They say there is nothing else they can do, that we’re stuck in this house, and they will come back and try to remedy it the next day. They offered us 2 free days of pool heating as a courtesy (lol).
At this point we contact Airbnb support, who gets us with the safety team. I sent them all of the information and all of the images. They seem to take this seriously and offer to help us into a new Airbnb. They find one for us and give us a discount on the new Airbnb. At this point, they tell me to checkout of the the original booking and cancel it. I do this as soon as we are safely in the new Airbnb. This whole process takes probably 3.5 hours, which is obviously a nightmare with 2 young kids.
Over the course of the next week, I received several messages and calls from the Airbnb safety team asking about the story. This morning I received this as a final message from Airbnb.
“Hi ______,
Thanks again for bringing this matter to our attention. We’ve conducted a thorough review but cannot confirm [Host Name]’s involvement in activities that don’t comply with our policy on Illegal and Prohibited Activities, which you can read here:
https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/3064.
However, we want our community members to be aware of our Community Standards. Please review them here:
airbnb.com/standards
As our investigation is now complete and no further action is required from the Safety Team, this message thread will be closed…..”
Where do I go from here? Has anyone ever dealt with something like this before?
EDIT to clarify: I was offered a discount on the second rental that we moved into. That was given immediately from the safety team. I have not been given a refund from the original booking at all. I was told that would be addressed in the investigation, but now they are saying no further action of them is required.
I don't have a clear answer for you but I will say that I have found airbnb support to be pretty inconsistent depending on who happens to pick up the phone or reply to your message. So don't give up, just keep calling until you get someone who is reasonable.
Obviously it's ridiculous to pay for two stays which were booked for the same nights. The first house was unusable and you should not pay for it. The discount on the second house covered only the inconvenience you dealt with.
Good luck!
Keep contacting Airbnb to make sure you get your refund for the first place.
This is a credit card dispute that you would 100% win, if it comes to that. You paid for something you never received.
If it were me, I would send a message to Airbnb giving them 24 hours to confirm your refund of the first reservation. Let them know that tomorrow you are initiating a dispute with your cc company.
See if that helps. Good luck! 🎈
My host went unresponsive right after we booked and legit ghosted us and it went from not being able to get a refund to a full refund after I said I can dispute it with my card but I thought I’d give you guys the chance to make it right first.
Great idea to tell them you will dispute the charge. I didn’t even think of that
That is a nightmare. Were you not refunded? Is that the issue?
Correct. I was not refunded at all for the original booking.
You call Airbnb back and tell them if they do not refund you for the first drug filled Airbnb, you will be disputing with your bank and using them no further. They will resolve it quickly
Was it same price as other place? Did you pay for other place too?
The host should have canceled the booking before you arrived. Because the host knew that the property was not ready for a guest.
Honestly it doesn't matter that the host wasn't involved in the drug use. It's his property and the drugs were there. He's responsible that his property is in proper condition for a guest, and obviously it wasn't. And the host knew that.
It is awful when a guest leaves an Airbnb so trashed that it can't be made ready in time for the next guest.
Unfortunately this is part of hosting. All hosts can only hope that it does not happen to them.
Had I been the host, I would have sadly told the next guest they had to find another place, and then gone after the previous guest with everything possible to get them to pay for both the cleanup and the lost reservation. I would be scorched earth on that.
Here's the guidance again on pestering Airbnb to follow their own policies and do the right thing.
At least two support threads a day should be opened. At least two phone calls per day must be made.
Narrow your evidence and your ask -- that is, make it a short read and stick to the main points of finding drugs and having to move -- and insist on escalation always.
Every time somebody's going to get back to you and solve your problem, you will never hear from them again. Don't wait on anyone to get back to you. Keep following up on your own.
The phone is where you can be most insistent that this has to be escalated. Again, when you do get to the next level and they say they will get back to you, don't stop contacting them. You will again probably never hear from them again.
You have to be relentless and not miss a day. At some point your refund may come through, it may not even be announced.
Good luck.
How many of you book accommodation post arrival?
I usually like to have mine lined up well in advance, but for my first trip with the pass I didn't pull the trigger... Most hotels are non refundable 24 hours out and I can easily see a scenario where I spend 15 times what I paid for the plane ticket on a whim for a room I never get to. Plus I guess there is always a possibility of a cheap hotels tonight or similar rate.
There were quite a few responses from the sub when I posted this a few months ago. Essentially it's a long, genetic list of ideas for saving money in hotels... https://www.reddit.com/r/gowildfrontier/s/UM1CWDTCcK
Others will chime in, but I have found I rarely book lodging after arrival. When I do, cashing in loyalty points is most common, followed by Hotwire/ hotels tonight/Priceline. Having a backup flight to a day before GW booking is one reason it is rare, using the pass to stay with friends or family is another
Hot tip (don't ask me how I know): Costa Rica requires proof of lodging at the immigration desk.
“Proof of lodging?” Please explain. And also include why this is important for Frontier travelers. I’m planning a Costs Rica trip with my GW as soon as I can see their flight schedule from MCO.
You have to show them what hotel you are staying at to enter the country. No booking, no entry.
Lol on the hot tip
Yeah, that was a high pressure test of my last minute booking skills. Thank you IHG points...
Travel insurance, annual plan. Well worth it. I use Allianz but there are many plans out there. My mid-level plan is about $250/year.
Very interesting thought
What website or app do you use when you want to get out of town on a whim?
Stay loyal to a hotel site. Expedia has had the best deals for me plus free vip upgrades for certain hotels.
second this! Expedia helps get a good last minute deal
The above^. Honestly, if I see it online and depending on the circumstance- how last minute- I’ll call them and ask if they’ll match it IRL. They will. That way any extension or any other issues can handled directly through the hotel not through the third party.
Hoteltonight app
Usually like hotels.com but I think last min deals are a myth tbh
As many of us know, great redemptions are available for flights a few days out as airlines just want to fill a seat.
Anyone ever plan for time off, but wait until less than five days out to book their flight?
If so, curious how it all worked out and how was sorting out hotels? Looking for those who fly by the seat of their pants.
This is something I can chime in on! Been doing this for the past year and flew round trip international biz class twice. So 4 flights total. I purposely waited til T-30 to start looking and setting up alerts. Around T-7 is when they usually triggered.
Yes it’s risky. And in peak months (June, July, Dec) this probably won’t work. But it’s worked for me. All at low points costs too. Polaris 75k, Asiana 75k, JAL 59k.
It works in June and July as long as you are flexible on the day +- a day or two. Also helps if you are traveling with a companion and don’t mind flying different flights (ie one person goes MAD-LHR-ORD and the other goes MAD-PHL-ORD). Flying on a Tuesday or Wednesday is often best.
If you want to fly the Sunday after thanksgiving it won’t work.
Did it once, sort of. Many years ago I had a trip setup and there was an attempted coup in Turkey. Happened less than 10 days before the trip, and we had already decided that we were still going after an airport “explosion incident” (after that, with all the international attention and law enforcement, figured it’d be among the safest places ever…). The tanks rolling on the Bosphorus sealed the deal as a no-go. Called the airline, got a rep that was great and happily refunded the miles and money. Wife and I just started searching for something fun during those dates. Already had the time off, so we made a game out of it. Within 48 hours we planned and booked an AMAZING trip to western Italy. Naples and the islands off of it (Ischia will forever be in my head). Got a great deal on an FHR resort (probably trying to fill non-reserved rooms) and just had a blast. All lie flat biz with great food and service. Worked out really well for us but I think you need to have the right mindset (with so little time to plan you’ll miss something, just shrug it off). We’ve thought about doing it again (on purpose this time) but have too many trips planned (or that friends invited us on) to do it yet.
Airline employees and family/friends who have free travel passes but have to fly standby
Yes this is me.
Just took a two week trip to Asia. Booked the final outgoing flight (JAL J A350 direct) about a week out. Had been booking and rebooking 1-stop and non-stop flights for a few weeks until the exact one I wanted showed up.
Booked the flight from country 1 to country 3 (overnight layover in #2) a few days before we flew it. Had booked and re-booked a few times as well.
Flight home (2 legs in Thai J + ANA The Room) from country 3 one day late, after booking the itinerary just after midnight - about 16 hours before the first flight segment departed.
All hotels were booked the day of check-in.
Since hotels are usually cancelable without a fee up to 24h before check in, I usually just book the hotel and wait for the close-in flights. Haven’t had to cancel a trip yet, though it’s sometimes taken creative routing to get there
Ever have to just pay cash for a flight if the redemptions didn’t work out?
Not yet. If I’ve got an outbound ticket, sometimes I’ll get a refundable Y return award until J space opens up
honestly, it's worked out fine for me every time - it helps though if you travel in shoulder season and you've done your research to try and figure out what your likelihood of getting a close-in award is. And if you'll take anything even if it's to a not as ideal positioning airport.
You can set up alerts on seats.aero but it may require a membership.
It's never been a problem, but I am not picky; any reasonably priced hotel with a Google rating above 4.5 works for me. Also, look for hotels that allow you to cancel up to a day before arrival to maximize your cancellation window.
That's how my friends and I have done Japan trips, book refundable Y and grab J at T-14
I am planning to go to Mexico in December/January and looks like all liveaboards are full already. Does anyone have experience of last minute deals? Is this possible?
I've been to Socorro twice in the past six years. Both were booked at LEAST a year in advance. Many liveaboards require deposits that early to guarantee their slot. So if you're expecting to just show up and get on a boat, good luck. You might be able to work with the boat operator directly on Liveaboard.com but often time, a group charters the entire boat and fills it up with their divers.
What you can do is if you can find out what shops are chartering the boat, reach out to them to see if they have an open spot on the boat at the time you want to go. I've actually done that with much smaller outings.
It will be more expensive than dealing with the boat directly because oftentimes, the dive shop will charge more so they can go for free or at a much-reduced discount.
You’re absolutely right, my plan was a bit spontaneous hence the last minute question. I’ll reach out to liveaboard
Nothing wrong with being spontaneous. Liveaboards - especially Socorro - is not usually a spontaneous spot to go at the 11th hour. It's one of the more extreme liveaboards as the boat travel-time alone to the islands from Cabo is at least 30+ hours which is why deposits are required a year in advance. Fuel costs, the crew, etc... it's not like a dive resort where one can almost show up.
I'd try reaching out to Bluewater travel. They've been good to me and travel agents can sometimes get you in if there are cancellations or changes that you can't get on the websites.
Amazing thank you
I have booked mine a year ago but at the time, I had noticed some deal. There can be some cancellations along the way. Maybe contact directly the operators. I’m going with Nautilus Liveaboard.
There’s a male share available on December 14th and 1 person left on January January 15th on the Nautilus Under Sea. No discount though.
Ask Liveaboard.com to assist you. Their customer service has been amazing so far.
Thank you. Let me check that
We just spent a long weekend in Cancun and decided we should try to do a 4 day weekend every month. Curious, if there is a credible "last minute deals" site for AI. Some sites I have seen may come up in a seach but more for clicks than real intent to move distressed inventory. Wondering if that exists and works well for anyone here. Thx.
I would probably just call an agent, give them my dates, and have them pull back the best options from their system. In the US I don’t know how it works, but we have a lot of great websites in Canada that let you search fairly last minute.
Can you please share the Canadian sites? Looking for a vacation end of July.
The vacation pricing grid from Tripcentral.ca is really quite user friendly. Searches all tour operators at once and you can search by gateway, and filter by trip length, star rating, etc., but make sure you press the “book” button to verify the price with the system as the shopping screen is not updated in live time.
Be sure to use a cashback portal, I like Swagbucks, but you can use Rakuten, Capital One, etc. You can often get 5% back redeemable for prepaid gift cards booking through sites like Expedia or Priceline. Book refundable reservations so you can cancel if you see a really good one last second. Be flexible and know your way around booking on the various sites and what resorts you're wanting.
What’s going to kill you last minute is the airfare. You’ll want to find an agent that works with air consolidators that have access to bulk fares that waive advance purchase requirements - the one I use most is Delta Vacations (if you’re in a Delta market, no one is going to beat them for last minute DL flights) but there are others out there too.
Find someone who is responsive and can get you turned around quickly when you inquire - this is a place where building a relationship with someone would be great for all parties because they’ll get to know you and what you like/don’t like to be able to keep an eye on deals for you and make the process smoother for all involved.
Sometimes, the best trips are the ones you don’t plan for months. I’ve been trying to plan a spontaneous weekend getaway, but I’m finding it tricky to get the best deals. Any advice on booking last-minute flights and accommodations?
I usually check travel apps for last-minute deals and go somewhere nearby to save time and money.
How to find last-minute Airbnb deals
Key Considerations for Finding Last-Minute Airbnb Deals
Use Filters: When searching, use filters to set your budget and desired amenities. This helps narrow down options quickly.
Flexible Dates: If possible, be flexible with your travel dates. Mid-week stays often have lower rates than weekends.
Last-Minute Discounts: Many hosts offer last-minute discounts to fill their calendars. Look for properties that have reduced prices for the upcoming days.
Check the Map View: Use the map feature to see listings in your desired area. Sometimes, properties slightly outside your preferred location can be significantly cheaper.
Set Alerts: Use Airbnb's "Save" feature to bookmark listings and set alerts for price drops. This can help you monitor deals on properties you’re interested in.
Contact Hosts Directly: If you find a place you like but it’s slightly out of your budget, consider messaging the host to inquire about potential discounts for last-minute bookings.
Explore Alternative Platforms: Besides Airbnb, check other vacation rental platforms like Vrbo or Booking.com for competitive last-minute deals.
Recommendation: Start your search a few days before your intended stay, and be ready to book quickly if you find a good deal. Being flexible with your location and dates can lead to significant savings.
