TL;DR Lifepod 5 is your starting point in Subnautica, located in the Safe Shallows. It serves as your initial base of operations.
Starting Location
Lifepod 5 is the player's starting location in Subnautica and is situated in the Safe Shallows biome. This area is characterized by its shallow waters, vibrant coral reefs, and relatively safe environment, making it an ideal place for new players to begin their exploration [2:3].
Exploration Tips
While Lifepod 5 itself is easy to find because you start there, exploring the surrounding areas can help you locate other lifepods and points of interest. Players often use their PDA and compass to navigate and explore the game's vast underwater world. It's recommended to read the clues provided in your PDA carefully, as they offer valuable hints about the locations of other lifepods [1:3].
Using Coordinates and Maps
For those looking to find other lifepods from Lifepod 5, using coordinates or maps can be helpful. Websites like MapGenie offer detailed maps of Subnautica's world, which can assist in locating specific lifepods without spoiling the exploration experience [2:1]. However, it's important to note that Lifepod 5 itself does not require such tools since it is your starting point.
Gameplay Experience
The game encourages exploration and discovery, so while Lifepod 5 is a fixed location, finding other lifepods involves using the tools and information available to you in-game. The randomness of certain spawns, including Lifepod 5's exact position within the Safe Shallows, adds to the game's immersive experience [2:2].
I have the indications relative to lifepod 4, but I don't know lifepod 4 position yet.
I have the compass, and I know that I can just look up on the internet where it is relative to lifepod 5 and go there, but that's not what I'm looking for. How does the game expect me to find it? Should I wait to get lifepod 4's coordinates? Should I explore randomly until I find it, and then backtrack to lifepod 4? Is there a piece of eqipment that might help me and I haven't discovered yet? (apart from the radiation suit)
Other people have posted this as well, but I'm wondering what's the "intended" way to solve this.
Edit: nevermind, I found it (pretty much randomly, but I scanned a few items in the meanwhile so it was worth it). I guess that's the way it's supposed to be found 😅
Ps. For anyone reading this in the future, bring a beacon and place it inside the pod... I had found it, then I went back to the base, and when I came back to search for pod 4 it took me another hour to find it again 🤦🏻♂️
I found it without even really looking for it, just explore around the general area your PDA says it is and you should find it
Look it up in your PDA and READ it.
It tells you pretty much right where it is.
You can wait until you get the message from lifepod 4.
Can anyone give me a step by step guide to Lifepod 7, I can never find it.
Due south from LP5, in the Crag Field.
Apparently I can't add the screenshot from here: https://mapgenie.io/subnautica/maps/world
You may not want to look at that if you don't want to spoil the exploration.
Unfortunately lifepod 5 spawns randomly in a fairly large area, so it won’t always be very due south at all…
Well, I've already beaten this game. I'm doing my second playthrough and, to be honest, I just want the damn toy corvette...
No judgement from me, but we do get a surprising number of new players here, so I figure I'd give the warning!
Roughly S - SE from the Safe Shallows, or directly E at 175M from the entrance point leading to the 500m Degassi habitat. You're welcome. I have seriously played this game way too much. Lol
Step 1: Go to Crag Field
Step 2: Wander the area til you find the lifepod
Step 3: ???
Step 4: Profit
Alternate step 3: Get eaten by bonesharks and leave out of frustration.
So being a total newbie I found Lifepod 4 before thinking to make or use beacons, and now I can’t find it again to drop a beacon as a marker to find Lifepod 6. I’ve skimmed the surface near the Aurora while using my compass and PDA clues but I still can’t find it :( Thanks in advance for any help!
Go to the entrance of the Aurora after getting there go back towards your Lifepod, most likely you will find it in the water on the way back.
Thank you!! Worked like a charm!
NP, it’s much easier to see on the surface and the Lifepod (for some reason) is easier to see going back
What's up with all the non subnautica posts recently?
I haven't been looking, but if they're all No Man's Sky related, it's been cause of the recent update that added water worlds to the game that bear a passing resemblance to Subnautica. I'd imagine there's probably some cross-pollination of gamers that play both, and they've found the similarities amusing. I meant to start a new save when this updated was released as well, but I haven't had time lately.
I play both!! :)
Thats the most subnautica coded nms world ive ever seen
There were water world's already albeit a bit shallow (maybe 100m deep). With the new update they promised (several) Kilometer deep water worlds with more and bigger creatures. I haven't played much and didn't find one yet but I'm a bit excited
It’s natural
What is this?
Subnautica looks different to how I remember it, the prawn suit too now that I think about it
Just realized at the start of the video I leaked my Xbox username. Eh who cares
I've been waiting for a post like this to creep on over 🤣 🤣
I'm exactly at the location, but the lifepod 2 seems missing? Am I supposed to find it in the area? The text doesn't make sense if that's the case. Here's a screen shot of the location
Missing file, cause that’s where it’s at
So how do I fix that? I just reinstalled the game hoping for it to be there.
I don’t know I’m a ps4 player but maybe a pc player will hop in here to help
Console player? Give it a minute. Should clip in once game catches up.

Im getting bored of waiting for a radio signal so if someone could tell me where it is that would be nice
Radio signals need some items build or some location entered. If you wait in your base, you radio remain silent, except for some minor messages. Even some lifepods don't have signals, only a screenshot in your PDA with part of the biome show and the compass direction and depth.
At first, Lifepods signals are useful. Middle game, you need to find the PDA that give the next signals. End Game, you only game some PDA Hints but no more signals, only the depth in the whole sea. Writing the hints in a paper, and listen your PDA carefull could help, because miss some PDA/hints/strange things in the game, could make you lost.
This game is about survival, exploration, and conquest? of the sea. Make the first 2 words, and discover tools for making the third part and overcome the unavoidable leviathans in the game (not kill, only survive and keep exploring the new zones).
most radio signals don't come from waiting
Look for a cloud bank southwest of the aurora, said cloud bank never leaves its fixed position. There's an island past it, and in a small trench in the sparse reef area under the island, there's the lifepod.
Hi there i just wanted to ask a question.
Was lifepod 5(the lifepod you spawn in) always at the back left corner of the aurora?
I swear it was always at the left side
It can spawn nearly anywhere in the Safe Shallows. I’ve had it extremely close to the Aurora, and all the way over the other side!
It spawns in a random area in the Safe Shallows
It is random in the safe shallows like they say. One time, I spawned really far out just over 300m from the grand reef I was really surprised
It’s not a Totally random location. It has a handful of different set locations it can spawn in, and randomly picks one of those.
There are a few locations in the safe shallows where the lifepod can spawn
So like, assuming I was starting at lifepod five, what direction would I have to go in to reach them?

Edit: sorry I meant the UNDERWATER islands
I believe they're about 1000 meters directly north of the life pod you first start in. I literally am building a base there as we speak.
if you look at the horizon, there should be two areas that make the horizon dip a bit and a huge tuft of clouds. those are how i find the two islands
wrong islands, I mean the ones that float UNDER the water
I think they r in line with the rear end of the aurora
An easier landmark is the island with the giant energy cannon. Leave the island so the Aurora is directly to your left (should be a straight shot out of the cannon's above-water entrance) and go out to sea about 300-500m or until you see bone sharks. If you hit kelp, you went too far.
okay thank you
Thanks for sharing!
Dude your streaming name is awful.
okay
-edit- I just realized that clicking on the picture takes me to...gasp a video! I just saw no link and assumed you forgot it :P
just downloaded this mod too! I really like it because you call fall at random or there are a few places can choose to land at. My favorite is the pool of water in the middle of the floating island!
I have the Cyclops now, as well as the Seamoth (no Prawn). I'm concerned about Ampeels, but I don't know what I can do to get to Lifepod 12 (and the bulb zone floor in general) safely. Please help!!
U just need the mk 2 depth for seamoth, u should also get the self defense module (shock) to scare the amp eels, but try to be quick and stay a safe distance from the eels it’s safer to be in seamoth, they do 1/4 of ur hp! P.s I did it with only seamoth!! There’s only a log
Thank you for the advice. I have gone down in the Cyclops, being very careful and on zero noise. I reached the lifepod and will be making a SWIFT exit.
The only reason why I went for it, was that I heard there was the recipe for alien containment, but there was nothing
I just park 100m above and swim down. Easy-peasy!
Safely? You can't
