Lifepod Equipment
Lifepod 5, the player's starting point in Subnautica, is notably under-equipped compared to other lifepods. It contains basic survival items such as two all-environment protection suits, nutrient blocks, drinking water provisions, an emergency medkit, and emergency flares [3]. This minimal setup reflects Alterra's reliance on the fabricator and blueprints for additional supplies, which becomes problematic due to a damaged PDA missing crucial blueprint data
[3:1].
Survival Challenges
The lifepod's limited resources pose significant survival challenges. Water is particularly scarce, with only two small bottles provided [3:2]. The flotation devices are also unreliable, highlighting Alterra's cost-cutting measures
[3:4]. These constraints force players to quickly adapt and utilize the environment to gather necessary resources.
Story Context
In the game's storyline, most lifepods were destroyed upon entry into the planet's atmosphere, leaving Lifepod 5 as one of the few that survived [2:3]
[2:4]. The protagonist was knocked unconscious during the crash, and upon awakening, finds themselves alone, emphasizing the theme of solitary survival
[2:3]. While it might have been interesting to encounter survivors from other pods, the narrative focuses on the player's journey of survival and exploration
[2:5].
Gameplay Experience
Exploring Lifepod 5 and its surroundings is integral to the gameplay experience. Players must navigate the ocean depths, uncovering secrets and gathering materials to enhance their chances of survival. The scarcity of resources within the lifepod drives players to explore the alien world, craft equipment, and ultimately unravel the mysteries of the planet.
Tried to make a mean looking shell with a cozy (but functional) interior. Second image is an older model, back before I changed the nose to be twin thrusters.
Includes: engineering corridor, medical bay, mission bridge, operations room, crew mess, lounge, captain's quarters, and of course, a green house for life support systems.
Reddit wouldn't let me share all the images, but the operations room, captain's quarters, and green house can be seen here:
Thanks for checking it out!

This is amazing, any tutorial for this? Thank you!!
Thank you!
I don't have a tutorial, unfortunately. It's a bit of a mess under the hood, basically slowly morphed from a different starship piece by piece over the last couple weeks.
Here's the original for reference 😅
oh wow.... I get it, would love to have that, but thank you
Evil. Wicked mean and nasty👍🏾👏🏾💯
Uhh, so I came back to this game since I missed it and its awesome gameplay and story... (I already missed it after completing my first save 8 days ago), it made me realise that I could do better, find more and explore more, I started reading these long-text logs and realized there's 25 lifepods out there, I also forgot about lifepod 7 sending me distress call with its corrupted location and literally didn't search for it. But now I have to... (Also the fandom can only provide me the locations of 2-19's locations, I'm curious where's 1, 20,21,22,23,24 and 25... It says here all 25 lifepods were deployed so I think the Captain won't use the Lifepod 1, he stayed in the Aurora till she crashed)
What i wanna knkw is how did everyone just die in a matter of minutes and in reality a fire that huge in a compartment that small should have killed him. The o2 in the pod would have been completely gone within 2 minutes of a small fire. Just saying. Maybe it was fate or alians idk what kept him alive.
Its ventilated and it probably didnt last over 2 minutes.
Lol please don't attempt that in real life. but a better expiement with it is a masson jar and a match with an o2 sensor. You'll probably see with in 5 to 10 seconds that there will be no more oxygen in the jar. Also the life pod was clearly sealed because he opens the top hatch and you can hear the suction.
Are you dumb if the fire used up all the o2 than there wouldn’t be a fire anymore lol
It has been stated that most of the life pods were destroyed on entry to the planet. As for the fire in life pod 5, if there was no oxygen, the fire would have put itself out as fire cannot exist without oxygen. The character was knocked unconscious for two hours and during those two hours is when the people in the surviving life pods were killed.
Personally, I would have found it entertaining if a couple would have survived, but the story is about surviving alone on the planet so it wouldn't really fit.
I like that theres no survivors but i wish they added dead bodies with injures suitable to what happened at each lifepod at least, could be argued they were eaten but i doubt all of em and this fast
yeah, I remember that thing about the mc being knocked out too, tho before was really confused how some people couldn't even survive that long, degasi even had a lot of bases lmao (oh yea, maybe because most of them landed on the most dangerous parts of the planet, whilst the mc being mc landed on shallow part lmao)
Sadlad to lifepod no.4 tho.
I think that the other life pods were disintegrated when coming in the atmosphere. That would be the only logical theory IMO
I see... That's a bit sad, could've been nice if we could check all of them out.
Some of them also sunked in the dead zone, i think.
Honestly I'd rather just burn up on entry than land in the deadzone.
Lifepod 7 has a cool easter egg in it so I recommend finding it
It's no secret that Lifepod 5 is laughably under-equipped. Even audio logs from other survivors mention having gear the player can only wish for - Lifepod 3 had a seaglide, for one example. But just what should have been stuck in the compartment for when the fertilizer really hit the fan? Let's look at real-world sailors put in their "ditch bag".
Lifepod 5:
- 2x All-Environment Protection Suits
- 2x Ready-to-eat nutrient blocks
- 2x Drinking water provision
- 1x Emergency medkit
- 2x Emergency flares

Nice comparison, it would have been great to have 30 water packs!
Water is definitely the big one. Potable water is the most important thing in any survival situation and Lifepod 5 only had 2 small bottles!
Just be happy the flotation devices activated. They seem a bit dodgy.
The Aurora was thought to be unsinkable, so they skimped on the life pods.
The new Titanic sank even worse than the first one. One legit survivor out of god knows how many victims (including those that died after landing)
The Databank states the Aurora can accomodate 150 people.
Damn it.
Alterra was cutting costs again.
They spent the money on engine grease.
I always figured it was minimally-stocked because Alterra counted on the fabricator and blueprints for everything else. It's the damaged PDA that's missing the blueprint data for almost everything that really sinks their plan.
Either way, Alterra was skimping, either in kitting out the pod or in relying on a dodgy plan assuming the PDA and fabricator would all work correctly after an emergency pod landing. I mean, that tracks considering how faulty the flotation devices are on all the other pods.
Here is my entry for the Constellation 100k Build Challenge: The Discovery
Designed by Walter Stroud and Sarah Morgan, this full sized ship takes the entire team to any system. The hab layout is very conventional with a 2 level stair case in the center. All member’s SPE habs are present in addition to every hab available from Graf’s 1x1 Habs. Every resource is available and then some including an infirmary, workstations, brig/armory, computer core, battlestations, captains quarters, living quarters, mess hall, AiO berth, and mechanical.
The ship’s Constellation pain scheme lets other ships know they come in peace. Built solely for research and science, the Discovery presents a non violent image, but can hold its own if duty calls.
A recent mission took the team to the Sol system where research was done on Luna, Mimas, and Mars. Somewhere between Jupiter and Titan, Sarah got pissed off with the Starborn because he was flirting with Andreja. 🤦🤷 see pic
Mods Used: Intrinity, Matilija, Darkstar, Avontech, Tiger, Graf’s 1x1, Falkland, Badtech, Crimson Rearmed, Better flips/Snaps, SMSEX, Decorative Engines, Ship Weapon One Power, Micro Modules, SPE, Multiple Bays/Cockpits, Floating Modules, etc!
Baller ship build. Love the story too and the hint at Sarah not liking alot. Ha ha
Keep them coming.
Plus, great set of slides of the ship.
This was a fun build. Prob the most fun Ive had in a while building a ship!
That is great to hear, I have one in planning to build. I usually pre draw up what i want to build. So far, on the second level of the ship. I'm not sure if it will be more than three full levels. I'm just awaiting my new laptop. My old one died a couple of weeks ago.
This is a very nice ship. Great lines and has a slightly imposing presence too thanks to demios parts. I'm always a fan of the low down Stroud bridge - (never have done this in my builds) - one of my fave ships seen for this challenge.
Nice build and interior, Magic
Very much like how you set up those engines🤌🏼
Nice one Magic.
So here is my entry. She’s designed for exploration, data exploitation, combat (when needed) and long space survival. Jack of all trades and can accommodate the entire group plus some extra hands. Whatcha think?
Habs: Stroud Premium, Falkland, Owltech, Tiger Shipyards
The rest is a combo of all the structures from those plus Intrinity Works and BadTech
Nicely done. Great ship for the challenge.
Nice ship
I think it's lovely! Great colors and a solid design.
This is nice!!👍
That looks so cool! I love that it’s 100% modded. 👏🏻

Just finished working on my fifth sub, and I think its my best one yet.
I made use of the shop wall a lot to add depth to the rooms, like the medical room has a surgery room behind it, for example. I also toyed with a new concept drawn from real life: small backup power supplies for things. I'm a little afraid that the maintenance requirements might be excessive, but i tuned down some of the values to compensate.
I also utilized a lot of legacy assets scaled down to decrease their apparent pixelation, which added a lot of variety to electrical systems. Take the junction box area for instance.
Lastly, I added a moon-pool in the back, I really like that feature and I think that the concept specifically benefits from the double-hull design.
Tl;dr I would really like some feed-back on design. I took a lot of inspiration from the S-619 Legionnaire and the R-278 Dugong, which I consider master-classes in the usage of the editor, you should check them out.
Look at red hornet sub. We just finished campaign on it, and I really liked how the case is implemented on it. It is its two-layer structure, it is quick to fix leaks, but it takes a long time to restore strength
is the space between the hulls ballast? 🤔 Hmmm
Well, At a quick inspection the boat looks amazing, I am very glad that there is a place for pots, at least 1-2. I really like the work with color. Everything is pleasant, nothing bad catches the eye.
I don't know what to advise yet.
I really like the variability and non-standard nature of the rooms and the simple layout. The boat seems new, but at the same time so familiar. Cool
I really appreciate that man, thanks so much. I will check out the red hornet, that sounds neat.
The details… Chef’s kiss👌
Let's say there's a Lifepod 10. You don't know where it is, but eventually you'd receive a radio broadcast. Where do you end up finding it? I'm planning on turning this into a narrative at some point.
Did anyone survive it, in your narrative? For how long? It could be under the smaller floating islands, on the seafloor, with a pile of rocks fallen from the floating islands having crushed it. The Aurora could have landed on top of it, you find a databox beside the single popped floatation device sticking out from under the Aurora's bulk (on the far side, not the Safe Shallows side), and a PDA entry from the 'survivor' next to that, which plays a voicelog of them cheering in relief about having landed safely enough before they look up, wondering what that weirdly huge shadow is that's appeared overhead...
Sorry, going off on a tangent there, I'm a bit of an amateur fiction writer myself and it's just too much fun to let my imagination run away XD
That's totally fine. I'm looking to place it in >!Sea Treader's Path!<, where the lifepod and the PDAs take place. And >!no, they will not survive!< but there will be >!an entire abandoned seabase to explore.!<
The spoilers are there for the narrative, not any gameplay. Spoil it for yourself if you will.
-1500 -500, the cave in the sea treaders path, dunes, blood kelp ravine and LR entrance. Lots of people never find the Sea Treaders.
Or Meteorite crater in the dunes, because the data inside the cave.
The Dunes. To give players a reason to visit the Dunes.
Apart from Reaper hunting, of course.
A millimeter from falling in the crater's edge
Im asking the Sub if anyone has any Pictures of the Interior of the Spaceship and Im trying to make a schematic of it as best I can. I cant seem to find any clear pictures online and Ofc Netflix wont allow me to screenshot them on my computer ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I think you will have to use your imagination for that. We only really see where the cockpit is located and about some other room from where they exit. But you will have to watch funny lying if to really figure it out.
Probably but still it would help if I had like the cockpit at least and then the other stuff Ill fill in Im not asking for the entirety of the ship apologies if I didnt make it clear
Unfortunately I don’t think anyone does, I tried to do something with the ship as well and even the island that Bee and all lived on but sadly like with the ship there just isn’t any credible or very well detailed sources if anything at all. Even if someone were to draw a map or what ever, at best it’s just a personal take on what they think it looks like and all.
I think that’s by design, the show is kind of supposed to feel chaotic and unorganized, so having a concrete map of the island would break that and bring at least some order
