TL;DR
To get the best ending in Persona 3: Reload, you need to make a critical "yes/no" decision near the end of the game. The correct choice is very obvious and ensures you avoid the bad ending [2:1].
Understanding the Endings
The endings in Persona 3: Reload are determined by a single pivotal choice towards the game's conclusion. Players should not worry too much about missing the good ending, as the decision is straightforward and hard to miss [2:1]. Unlike Persona 5, where confidants play a role in achieving different endings, Persona 3's outcome hinges on this singular choice
[2:1].
Emotional Impact and Themes
Persona 3: Reload is known for its emotional narrative and impactful ending. Many players have expressed deep emotional responses to the finale, often describing it as both heartwarming and sad [3:3],
[4:4]. The themes of sacrifice and death resonate strongly, leaving a lasting impression on players
[4:2],
[4:6]. Understanding these themes can enhance your appreciation of the story and its conclusion.
New Game Plus (NG+) Considerations
After completing the game, players often choose to start a New Game Plus (NG+). This allows them to carry over certain elements from their previous playthrough, such as personas, to either speed through the game or focus on aspects they missed initially [5:1],
[5:2]. Some players prefer to re-grind and experience the challenge again, while others use NG+ to explore the story more deeply without gameplay distractions
[5:3].
Additional Content and Closure
For those seeking further closure and story content, exploring additional episodes like "Episode Aigis" is recommended [4:5]. While some players find the combat less engaging, the narrative offers valuable insights and a satisfying conclusion to the character arcs. Engaging with DLCs and other related media can also provide a richer understanding of the game's universe and characters

I’ve just finished Persona 3 Reload, and I couldn’t be more upset about it. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the ending and all, but it’s just that feeling of leaving what I loved and the fact that they haven’t even seen what has happened to Makoto is nnngghhh… frustrating, to say the least. Anyways, I recommend the game to EVERYONE, and it’s one of the best games I’ve played. Well, time to move on to Persona 5 Royale…
If you finished it tomorrow you would've ended the game on the same day it ends irl (March 5th)
Dang it! Almost. Then I gotta do a rerun. Maybe I’ll finish it in 22:12 minutes…
If you saved right before the game ended, you could experience the ending again.
I saved right before the ending in both FES and Reload so I can use my friends computer and mine and play both endings at the same time 😭
Weird seeing people play P3R first, usually its P5 that gets people into the series, love to see it tho.
I love P3R and I doubt that I’ll like P5 more, or even P4. P3R will always have a special place in my heart.
A lot of people prefer P5 because there's way more stuff to do outside of fighting shadows so i'd wait till you play it first, you might change your mind.
Oh hey look it's almost March 5th irl
Yep, finished it on march 4th.
I just completed a playthrough where I beat Nyx on 1/31
Poetic
It's very rare that I can get so emotional over a video game that I cry, Persona 3 reload was one of the few that did that.
No spoilers please, I'm going in blind, I've never played Persona 3 and have no idea about the story. I know in Persona 5 you want to complete all the social links for the good ending, so does this game have something similar? I know a lot of the social links don't have any real gameplay benefits like Persona 5 and some of them arent interesting. So all I want to know is if I can ignore some of them or if I should attempt to complete all of them for the good ending.
P3's ending is decided by a single "yes/no" choice near the end of the game and the correct answer is extremely obvious.
I know in Persona 5 you want to complete all the social links for the good ending
You do not need any Confidants in P5 to get the good ending, and the "true" ending in P5R only requires one specific Confidant.
Don't you need 2 confidents for p5r?
!Maruki!< is the only one who's actually required.
Akechi adds some extra scenes to the third semester but he's not required for the ending itself.
There's a bad ending but it's ridiculously obvious to spot so don't worry
Sweet, thank you!
I've never really looked at this sub before so I'm sure this post has been made dozens of times over, but damn. That is one of the most tear jerking, beautiful endings to a piece of media I've witnessed. I'm not one to cry at movies or games, but this got me close. It's both heart warming and sad, and is so far my favorite ending to a persona game(I've only played p5 vanilla before this, but still). 10/10 peak experience, I WILL be buying the dlc
I played it twice and a lot of the emotional scenes still get me. One of the best JRPG stories hands down
Just finished it yesterday and it is an amazing game. Already downloaded my favorite songs from it lol
Yup, he died.
The dlc is really grindy BUT the story is excellent and give you better closure
And yes this post is very frequent, but that is hardly a bad thing
I made one of those posts myself a few months ago (this was my introduction to persona)
And i think its beautiful, that a piece of media exists that makes us all feel and care so much
Ill never not upvote one of these posts
I beat Persona 3 reload not to long ago, moved onto persona 5 cause I already have it, but honestly I’m still kind of distraught about that ending. Like I was expecting it, but in both endings he dies? And they couldn’t have let him at least see his other friends before dying. Like I cried, I hated it, why would they do that to me.
If you've ever heard of Gnosticism, it's very symbolic of success with that to me. I think protagonist feels very accomplished before his inevitable death. It is pretty sad but also very happy. He did in fact save the world and all the people he loved. And I'm not sure your idea of the matter but I'd much rather be one who pays a price than all of my loved ones
Felt the same way and I just finished it too.
I wanted him to live. He does in my headcanon.
Like it’s almost not fair. Everyone thinks he’s gone but he shows up in front of school. Lives normally for a month, but then randomly passes. It’s one of my few criticisms with the game as the “good ending” makes me more sad than it does happy.
It's definitely not fair. I get the idea that it's in line with the themes and how it's bittersweet, but a lot of the gut punch was that last day, with all the things talking about the future
Yeah, some of those are pretty damn silly, but that's kind of the point, that's life. Some people I've seen explain the ending says older versions do a better job of explaining how at the beginning, MC is just apathetic and doesn't care about anything, including living, and how it's beautiful how going through the game he finds the meaning of living. I get that, but if anything that makes it even worse for me, for him to finally see the point of living only when it's time to go.
In P4 Arena, the P3 cast talked about finding a way to undo his Seal and bring him back another way.
But, that was the last time that topic ever came up before dropping it, and any further cameo of P3.
Besides the spinoffs and collab DLCs, anyway.
But, yeah, 3s theme is Death, so it makes sense that it's somber as hell.
I felt the exact same. If you can play Episode Aigis please do the combat is mid af but worth it for the story and conclusion
I like the idea he was dying, but he pushed on to hear his friends that last time before he fully passed away. When they get to the roof, he heard them. And then he passed
I mean I liked the idea of it too, just super sad
So I beat the game. I cried my eyes out. I decided to save the true ending for NG+.
Here's a question: do people use their stronger personas to speed through the game, or is it a more enjoyable experience to re-grind?
Is it one of those things frowned upon?
I used Yoshitsune maxed out so I could focus on getting all of the Social Links I couldn’t get during my first run through
Personally I used the first playthrough for the gameplay and challenge and during the second one I just kinda steamrolled to focus on the story, you can do whatever tho :D
it's a single player game why would anyone frown at you for playing how you want
People do both.
I re-grind but put focus on personas that I didn't use before.
I got spoiled of persona 3 ending where the protagonist dies but I heard that there's 2 endings so is the other ending a happy one? And will those 2 endings gonna be on reload?
There's a "bad ending" that's happy on the surface, but is actually much worse than the true ending. I'm sure that one will be in Reload as well. But it also skips the entire last month of the game, including the final boss.
If you're talking about The Answer epilogue, then that's all about coming to terms with the events of the true ending of the game. No, it won't be in Reload.
So basically there's not a truly happy ending in the game like in persona 5 ending's for example?
It's in line with the themes of life and death, so it's a bittersweet ending.
You'll see when you play it.
damn I was hoping to play it in hd
If you mean The Answer, that's now coming in September as part of the third wave of the Expansion Pass DLC.
is femc in reload?
I don’t think having that spoiled is that bad considering the circumstances, it’s kind of vague at the ending and some players don’t even realise they die anyway even after seeing the end and no I doubt they would change the main story of the game for Reload that’d defeat the point. One of the main themes surrounding the game is Death so removing that from Reload well ATLUS might as well have prioritised making P6 instead
You seem quite set on thinking that the ending you got spoiled on is the bad end, but that's the true ending. You won't really be able to understand it since you haven't played the game but it's the actual ending and you may find it hard to understand without full context. So I mean as for all games people get spoiled on, play the game if you want, you'll still enjoy the game if you like it.
By the way just because a story has a character die or something sad happens at the end doesn't make it a bad end, though I get your thinking. Also theres no way they'll change the ending in Reload, it's pretty important to the themes of the game as well as just being a iconic ending.
Thanks for the explination
I’ve played Persona 3 FES and Portable several times and even though I knew how the game was gonna end, going through the story was worth it because of the themes it deals with and the different character interactions. So even if you already know how it ends, you still don’t know how or why it got to that point and that’s something you can look forward to if you ever decide to play the game.
Yeah thanks by other comments I decided that im still gonna play the game even tho I know that the mc dies in the end , now I hope I Don't get more spoiled about this game lmao
I always viewed the traditional Bad Ending for this game, as the good ending. At best all the negative people wake up in the dark hour and Shadowize; but it never looked liked everyone died in the bad ending.
Just my theory.
I'm starting a NG+ and I'm just curious as to how I'd get the best ending possible! Thank you in advance!
Max all S links and that’s pretty much all there is to it. You get some pretty awesome cutscenes if you max them all out and you get some cool shit afterwards. So just max them all out and that’s the best ending possible.
Is there a lot of planning involved or is it pretty easy?
Nah, the loading screen even says "take your time". That's not to say that it's super easy, you can never do everything in the game on your first playthrough. But you will be able to max out stats. Can I give you a pointer that'll help you out? There's little tips that go a long way.
only three ending really, selling out your friends, excepting Igor's deal and the true end. Just don't sell your friends out and don't except the offer to get the best end, luckily for everyone the endings are very straight forward and easy
I think op means in regards to maxing all confidants, personas etc., etc.
I was just curious how to get the "best" ending I only had ann skull futaba sojiro and morgana at rank 10
Ah if so sorry I am pretty tired but I guess I am more tired than I thought
Not finishing the game is the best choice ,because in all others... it ends (cry)
that was me I was so sad when i beat it but happy too because it was such a good story!
I guess that would be max all s.links with the true ending
Alright thank you!
Max out all of your social links, deny the false Igor's offer, and don't sell out your teammates or confidants while being interrogated.
Maxing out every social link provides some unique cutscenes toward the end during the final battle, and some unique dialogue in the epilogue. I'd say that is the true "perfect" ending as you would have bonded with all of your friends and confidants by the end of the story in a way that gives a satisfying conclusion to the stories of every character you meet.
I cried when I beat P5, now I’m crying as I beat P3R. I knew how it ended and everything but it still got me. Atlus really knows how to put you through and emotional roller coaster at the end of these games.
Ye seems about right . I played P3FS I cried at the end . Cried at the end of P4G and Cried again at the end of P3R . Last but not least I Cried at the end of P5R
P3 was such an emotional game, and explored some much more heavy themes than I expected it to. Because of that no other persona game will probably beat it for me. The message and way each character is written to go with the games themes is just so good. Wait till you play p4g, it may not be as emotional as p3, but you’ll grow really close to the characters in that one
quite literally in shambles.
i never played or watched a playthrough of the OG game, but i got spoiled the ending a while back. the ending hit really hard, with aigis’ speech and the piano in the background. i fully had accepted that i was never going to have the opportunity to experience the game for myself, but when reload was first announced it was like oh shi - i can actually learn the story behind each of the characters and the overall connection between them all to understand why the ending is what it is!
my friend had gotten me the deluxe edition of the game for my birthday last year, but i only started playing it this year because i was finishing up my playthroughs for golden (got the good ending but not the true ending initially). i had the honor of playing the game alongside my partner, us experiencing it together.
the ending hit extremely hard, i already started crying after finishing the final boss fight (funny enough wasn’t as difficult as i thought it would be on merciless), and walking around talking to all the confidants on the last playable day made it even more emotional considering i knew what was coming. what a game - i can finally say i understand people’s love for persona 3. while i can’t say anything about reload and comparing it to the OG, i feel like as someone with no idea what the story entailed, reload was a magnificent experience and i will be replaying it for the platinum trophy. but HOLY HELL, one thing for sure i didn’t enjoy was the tartarus grind, especially towards the end of the game 😭 that’s gonna be annoying to deal with
my bad for the yap salad, i’m still recovering from that ending holy FUCK
I just finished yesterday night and stayed up till 4 am to do it, so I sympathize with you so hard rn. I also knew about MC's death at the end, but def was still not prepared for that shit cause I cried till about 5 am. I gotta say, though, I definitely played the game very differently because I knew about the end. It felt like I was really trying to make the most of the time the MC had left.
what an amazing game! Definitely my favorite in the series so far. The ending really hit hard. I had a vague spoiler from a YouTube comment on the Full Moon Full Life teaser....it didn’t give everything away, but enough to spoil the ending. I kept hoping until the end that he would make it out alive When Makoto walked out of Gekkoukan alive I was so relieved and happy. But the final day social link interactions with everyone....when they kept mentioning how pale and tired he looked that’s when it struck me. The final scene with him on Aigis’ lap and her smile after the credits hit me like a truck. Easily one of the best games in the series. I’ve already platinumed P5 Royal and P4 Golden....now just waiting and hoping for Persona 6!
Congratulations! How was maxing out the social links, how many playthroughs did it take for you took me two and i got the plat in p3r and p5r too missing p4g, the persona series is amazing !
Hey thanks! I managed to get the platinum in one playthrough....wrapped up all the social links with only a couple days left in January. I had just finished the platinum for P4G before this...with the P4 revival just announced, I'd definitely recommend going for it when it drops!
