TL;DR
Exploration and Side Quests
Exploration is key to leveling up quickly in Elden Ring. Players are encouraged to explore every nook and cranny, including caves, tunnels, dungeons, and optional bosses [3:1]
[3:3]. Engaging with these areas not only provides runes but also offers valuable items and upgrades that can aid progression. Completing side quests and activating summoning pools can also provide additional opportunities to gain experience
[3:1].
Scadutree Fragments
A unique feature in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is the Scadutree Fragments. These fragments significantly boost your offenses and defenses while in the Lands of Shadow [1:1]
[2:1]. It's crucial to collect these fragments as they make a notable difference in your ability to tackle the DLC's challenges
[1:8]
[1:9].
Weapon and Flask Upgrades
Upgrading your weapons and flasks is often more beneficial than simply leveling up your character stats [5:1]. Ensuring your weapons are at their best through blacksmith upgrades can dramatically improve your combat effectiveness. Similarly, upgrading your flasks will help you sustain longer battles and survive tougher encounters
[4:1].
Choosing the Right Build
Focusing on a specific build can streamline your leveling process. Players are advised to concentrate their stats on one or two attributes, such as faith/strength or strength/dexterity, rather than spreading them too thinly across multiple areas [1:3]
[1:10]. This focused approach ensures that you maximize the potential of your chosen weapon or playstyle.
Strategic Farming Locations
While exploring, certain locations offer efficient rune farming opportunities. For instance, after defeating Godrick, players can pursue Varre's quest line to access a prime rune farming spot [3:5]. Additionally, targeting enemies like the vulgar militia near Gurranq the Beast Clergyman can yield substantial rune rewards
[4:2].
Finally beat the game after 2 years of playing (i gave up once and took a year hiatus lol). After many wipes and painful resets back to radagon, I guess I'm elden lord. Bought shadow of the erdtree with no hesitation. Am I going to have to do a lot of leveling? What should I be careful not to miss as I head into the land of shadow? How should i level if I wish to remain a strength faith build with blasphemous blade? See below my current level
Do not neglect collecting scadutree fragments. They make a lot of difference.
Id say get up to level 3-6 before fighting a boss, i tried fighting some of them without leveling it at all and got my ass handed to me. It will steadily increase your damage and damage reduction which youll need for the dlc
Thanks, you probably just saved me hours' time
I want to add that they're not gonna "break the game" like some people say, they balance it, DLC's bosses are very strong
Oh, trust me, I'm gonna need them anyway cause I'm severe ADHD which means I can't focus enough to time how I dodge attacks, lol. I'm gonna need these like water, lol🤣
Basically this. Ive seen people go into the dlc and refuse to get them because they think itll make them overpowered, and ive seen people not get them because they think they wont make much difference. Both are incorrect, and youre meant to find and use them
You really need to pick a weapon or build and put your stats into it, like going faith/str or str/dex is fine but you’ve got everything so spread out.
Also collect the god damn scadutree fragments or prepare for hell.
I was thinking the same thing. You gotta have at least a 60 on one of the stats and stick to a build
For blasphemous blade should I lean more into faith?
You beat the game before me...I am in a similar boat but I went to the dlc area because I beat the mohglester haven't completed the dlc either...another hiatus cause I went back to ds3 cause of nameless (I have beaten ds3 but not dlcs)
Your stats are way too spread out.
Your level should be fine for the entirety of SotE, though you'll probably gain a bunch as you play through it.
Make sure to use the Scadutree Fragments you find, which will multiply all of your offenses and defenses by a percentage while in the Lands of Shadow.
Going to finally get some time aside to beat the dlc. The questions I have though are,
Basically what the other comment has said. imo it's harder than Old Hunters on base ng, assuming you're going in solo melee. Roughly the same in difficulty on max ng+ cycle.
Get the best spirit summons (look these up) and level them up. There are more than a few dragons and deathrite birds that you're better off just summoning and getting it over with.
Unless you're checking a guide you're bound to miss a lot of stuff, especially the character quests. Don't fret too much over them.
So he's not going in solo melee if he summons
1+2: Beat the base game for the best start in it. Around 120-150 would be pretty good.
3: Whatever you like, bring in whatever. You can go back to the base game at any time.
4: Probably.
5: Collect Scadutree Fragments to increase your damage and defenses. This is how you actually get strong enough to take on the DLC. If you do not, no matter what level you are, you're gonna get ground to dust.
I bet you someone out there has beaten the dlc without the fragments. There has to be lol.
Anything you can think of, it’s been done lol. These games are challenge run heavens
If you just explore the world you should never have yo worry about being under leveled. The most important thing is to upgrade your weapons
If you are farming the same enemies over and over it gets tiring really fast. Just exploring all areas, caves and dungeons and doing all optional bosses will give you more than enough levels
Quite the opposite for me- leveling up is pretty consistent and fast in this game- I was often over leveled most of the game just for fully exploring- towards lategame it evens out pretty good. Extraordinarily I feel like they got the leveling pace perfect in this game.
If you’ve beaten Godrick you can do Varres quest line to access the best tune farming spot in the game
literally explore everything - every nook & cranny, every cave, tunnel, dungeon, etc. activate all of the summoning pools and throw out the effigy to be summoned to help people. activate the hunter ring to be summoned as a hunter. if you do these things you will level up quickly and never need to farm for runes.
Second this - just check every corner and it’ll come naturally
so i started elden ring & was wondering how can i beat bosses if my level is small, like i’m having trouble with even tree sentinel & even though i can get his health low, im usually out of heals & FP lol. what’s the fastest way to get more runes. HELP HAHA.
First spot that I actually start to farm is the area outside of Gurranq the beast clergyman location. Kill the vulgar militia guys in the area, and they'll drop about 1000 runes each. Before that, I'm just killing every enemy along the way and leveling up whenever I can. There's LOTS of places to branch out and get new weapons, armor, smithing stones, and runes without having to face the harder bosses until you're ready. Just look for anything that looks like a building or cave on your map and spend time exploring. Definitely skip the tree sentinel until you're ready. Good luck!
thanks man thanks
You need to go exploring. Go into caves. Kill a lot of enemies and start leveling up. You don’t need to worry about the tree sentinel at all
"i’m having trouble with even tree sentinel"
Tree Sentinel and 15-20 minutes later Margit are purposesfully put on beggining of the game with purpose to force you realise that trying to beat the 1st oppnent which you see is not always the best solution. Now go in gatefront ruins(sites of grace should show the main path) unlock the cutscene with Melina when you rest in this site of grace and you will take the abillity to level up and use Torrent as your horse.
After that explore the whole Limgrave for dungeons, tombs and ruins which have easier opponents to face and this how you collect runes(you beat easier enemies and mini-bosses. Also invest all these runes in leveling mainly your vigor and weapon upgrade level. Also explore for golden seeds, sacred tears and finding wondrous Physic Flask.
Generally you have a lot explore in Limgrave.
tree sentinel is there to teach you thats its ok to leave a boss and come back later when you're stronger
I’d skip tree sentinel for now. Go for small camps and dungeons, and don’t forget to upgrade your flasks. Once you’re higher level you can more easily tackle the big bosses.
I’ve been playing Elden Ring for the past week or so and noticed I’m underleveled for a lot of areas. Is this normal?
There are some areas that are accessible really early that you'll definitely be underleveled for. They kinda want to softly funnel you into areas that are appropriate for your level with that. It could also be that you're not doing a lot of side dungeons to level up and could just be underleveled in general.
as with most games the further away from the starter area you get the stronger the enemies. when ppl say "it's sn open world, so just go somewhere else" they forget to mention that most the time.
the fact that you csn just stumble straight into Calid doesn't help either. that's more of a early midgame area.
If you stick in the starter areas limgrave, east-limgrave and weeping peninsula you should be fine even at low leveld
Yeah pretty normal if you just explore randomly and end up at like Caelid too early.
You can always explore somewhere else and come back, that's the thing with this game.
Yeah this is just traditional rpg stuff. If you seem underleveled you should see if there’s another path or area you haven’t explored.
Tbh souls are pretty light in the actual stat leveling. Pick the weapon you want and level to the requirements. Then all you have to do is keep leveling health/stamina until you decide to change things up.
Upgrading your weapons at a blacksmith will always be way more useful than leveling the scaling stat. Scaling is so random I’ve played ds 1 & 3 bloodborne and ER yet I still doesn’t seem like I can get significant results lol
I’m a new player diving into Elden Ring for the first time, and as the game is now two years old, I have read the old comprehensive guide but I imagine the community has learned a lot about what works and what doesn’t. I’d love your advice on the following:
What are the absolute must-know tips for a beginner?
Whether it’s about character builds, exploring, or combat strategies, what would you tell someone just starting today?
Is there anything you wish you’d done differently if you could start fresh?
What are the biggest lessons learned in the past two years?
Have there been any revelations about mechanics, items, or strategies that aren’t immediately obvious to new players?
With the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC on the horizon, do you have any preparation tips? Is there specific gear, builds, or lore I should be aware of that might tie into this expansion?
I’m trying to approach this game with an open mind and fully enjoy the world, but I know it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Any guidance, from small quality-of-life tips to major gameplay strategies, would be massively appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Tarnished!
I am still on my first play through. Just got the game as well. Been playing ds 1 and 3. My experience is to start with something simple. And for me that is a strength build. And when things get too difficult I google on that specific problem. There is a joy in going in blind. And do not trip if an enemy is too difficult. Go somewhere else and come back later. It’s a beautiful game. Maybe the best I have ever tried. Enjoy.
I think Strength was my favorite build. Get the Giant Crusher in early game.
That’s true I just came from DS3 and so far am loving the game. The cut scenes, environment change and gameplay are all really cool. I don’t mind dying hard at all as long as I am learning something every-time. I love exploring the map, going places where I shouldn’t. Found some crazy places, hid in bushes, stabbed their backs and ran. It’s awesome.
Agree. So many surprises.
Imo it’s best to experience this game blind from the start. The discovery just adds so much to it. The only thing I would think is worth looking up are some of the side quest as they are easy to miss and have cool gear and weapons/spells but even then I would try them out before looking it up. Don’t be afraid to try out different things. You can respec at some point like mid game. On a second run through or after you beat the game I would then look up a guide to find everything you might have missed. And also to add on to my point about my side quest, it’s no big deal if you miss them. I have 200+ hours in the game and have not done them all. There is just a ton to explore and find. I feel like a comprehensive guide would take a lot of the fun out of it.
In my experience this is all you need:
Level up vigor
Have fun with your favorite build
3.Don’t spread stats unless you know what you are doing
It’s ok to miss some quests
Gather Scooby doo blessings for the DLC
Use your consumables!
Currently I’m on the storm gate giant boss and he’s giving me a hard time. I level up my strength stat to 10 to wield the long sword and changed my armor to one of the guards.
I’ll definitely increase my vigor as currently I am a two shot easy kill for anyone. Learned to dodge but finding it hard to attack sitting on the donkey.
The giant at stormgate? You can easily run past him. Or you can go south to weeping peninsula or east. Just don’t go to Caelid
> Gather Scooby doo blessings
What are these?
Bro I found this WiKi
Fextralife was a great guide, very helpful for me. I also recommend quitting your job and leaving your wife and child. Commit to ER.
The grind is real! Found a dragon this early in game, turned out I could just run away from it. Coz I can’t even kill a small rat for now.
I’m like level 87 and it’s about 50k runes to level up once and where I’m at I seem a little under powered to be in. Any tips greatly appreciated!
Just continue exploring every corner of the open world should lead in a ton of runes(if u dont die too much ;)
Step 1. Do Varre's quest.
Step 2. Locate bird.
Step 3. Shoot bird.
Repeat step 3 until satisfied.
Idk where that is 😭 any of it
Go to the rose Church in Luirina lakes. It's south west of the academy
Varre should be at Rose Church, which is one of the islands south from Raya Lucaria in Liurnia.
One thing about farming is it can make the game very dull. Id recommend going back and reclearing earlier tunnels especially with miners in it. Its not boring and they drop smithing stones
The bird spot is the best. If somebody hasn't explained fully how to get there yet, then just search youtube. There is probably 50 different videos explaining step by step how to get to the bird spot. Just search elden ring bird farming spot
Trying no to spoil anything, but do you farm at THAT point, where you shoot the huge bird monster with a bow? If you have no idea what I am talking about, you're missing on HARD so please message me so I can explain
On it
Go to a recently defeated boss and put down a summon sign. Runes and a rune arc.
No one ever summons Beatus Meatus 🥲
Sit at the site of grace (where the little Golden single flame is). There's a lot of them....one of them is about 15 feet from that merchant. The site of grace to lvl up first is at the ruins with guards (up the path) will trigger a cut scene for leveling up and you'll get torrent. After that, you can lvl up at any site of grace (provided you have enough runes)
Rest, reset, kill them again until you get comfortable
(Not sure why this was downvoted?)
Bottom right
This was a joke post, I didn't expect honestly helpful answers so thank you :)
>500000 runes >how I level up ? Nice bait
you know all those try jumping that's were the waygate to the roundtable hold is you have to jump off to get in them.
I heard they were personally written by the devs
Go north from there until you find some ruins filled wifh soldiers. Past it and to the northeast will be another Grace where you unlock leveling up.
To add on to this, the grace point is called Gatefront. Just past the forest beyond the military camp you see.
you need to get runes first
I need to try this first
You need to kill the golden horse guy before anything
So first time playing and I’m hearing mixed opinions.
Some say do it early to save NPCs (e.g. kvatch), but then level to 22 for a ring for another quest?
I don’t want to miss out on NPCs or OP rings, is there a guide as to what level to tackle certain quests for max rewards?
Try the wikis. But you may need to check each of your current quests.
22 and above for the Mundane Ring to drop on Raven Camoran which is probably the ring you’re referring to. If I remember correctly it’s 25 and up for quests to give their highest stat versions of rewards.
That being said there are more rewards than you’ll be able to use practically in one play through so unless you have a specific reward in mind speed leveling isn’t really necessary. Being a below a certain level to make a quest easier or keep npc’s alive is still a useful tactic.
Hi I am pretty new to Elden Ring, I want to level up quickly but all the "sidehustles" I have tried from youtube are still very time consuming. Could someone help me out please? I don't really know what stuff that I have is valuable enough for tradding, so just let me know and we can figure something out :)
