TL;DR Focus on meta progression through repeated runs, upgrading weapons and Arcana cards, utilizing Incantations, and gaining familiarity with enemy patterns.
Meta Progression
In Hades 2, leveling up quickly involves understanding the meta progression system. This includes running Nights, defeating higher foes, and interacting with NPCs to receive Keepsakes and Incantations [5:2]. These elements are crucial for unlocking weapon aspects and upgrading your Nocturnal Arms and Arcana cards. The more you play, the more resources you'll accumulate, which can be used to enhance your abilities and equipment
[5:1].
Utilizing Incantations and Cauldron
Incantations play a vital role in strengthening your character. They allow you to unlock gathering tools and upgrade Arcana cards [5:4]. Using the cauldron effectively will help you access these upgrades and trade materials for further enhancements
[5:2]. It's essential to keep experimenting with different combinations to find what works best for your playstyle.
Weapon and Arcana Card Upgrades
Upgrading weapons and Arcana cards is another way to level up quickly. You can upgrade at the altar by hovering over the Arcana slot on the right to maximize your potential [5:6]. Each card has two upgrades, and focusing on these can significantly boost your power during runs
[5:7]. Collecting dream dust is necessary for these upgrades, so prioritize gathering this resource during your runs.
Skill Development Through Practice
Much of the skill in Hades 2 comes from repeated practice and learning enemy patterns [5:3]. Trial and error will help you understand how enemies fight, allowing you to strategize better and survive longer. As you become more familiar with the game's mechanics, your ability to progress will naturally improve.
Additional Tips
While guides and walkthroughs can provide insights, many players prefer discovering strategies on their own to maintain the excitement of exploration [1]. However, if you're struggling, consider checking out community discussions or unofficial guides that might offer helpful tips without spoiling the experience completely
[3:3].
I put about a million hours in on Hades 1 playing on console, so when I recently built a gaming PC Hades 2 was the first thing I downloaded. I think I'm 20 hours in, don't have a win yet, haven't unlocked everything, don't even know which gods offer which boons at this point. I have to say it's so much fun going back to the beginning and being a noob. I won't watch any guides or streaming content because I don't want to spoil the fun of figuring it all out. Obviously my opinions may change but I wanted to offer my first impression.
I LOVE this game. I love how different it is from Hades 1. The omega/magic system offers a really fun dynamic. I had gotten really good at min maxing my Hades 1 runs, but that feels much more challenging in this game. Part of this might just be my inexperience, but by the end there I knew exactly what I wanted from a given run with a particular weapon aspect. I was playing for the same 10 or so builds over and over. It doesn't feel like that is going to happen with this one. It feels like there are just many possible combinations that there are going to be a way larger pool of capable builds to aim for, and that it will be a lot harder to force your will on the game and get what you want every time. Similarly the combat is a more fun because of the greater options. I do think I preferred the call system to the Selene stuff, but it's pretty cool.
What do you all think, am I just high on it because it's new or does it indeed offer far greater versatility?
I’m about 15 hours in so far and having a lot of fun. It’s crazy the early release version has almost twice the number of regions and enemies compared to hades 1.
One thing I’m worried about is how easy it is to activate your selene boons, given that you don’t have to hit anything with your omega abilities to charge them. I could see people cheesing their way through high heats by relying to heavily on those strong abilities (some of which make you invulnerable) without facing any risk of taking damage.
Yeah Hades 2 is absolutely insane with the versatility and builds.
I have 400 hours in Hades 1 and the same in Hades 2, although I have more in Hades 1 since I have it on multiple systems.
The addition of Omega attacks and specials is awesome, especially the cast. You can lock enemies in or out and even cause it to detonate with the Omega cast. You can even get an extra 30% damage to enemies in your cast with an Arcana card. It baffles me when I read that some people hardly even use it.
The hexes and mana add a lot as well. Lucid Gain with Charon, Geyser Spout or Momus, which allows you to Lucid Gain to Regen 4x, one with each detonation, is amazing to build around.
Even with 400 hours in I am still discovering new builds and combinations. Such an amazing game and even in EA it has more content and gameplay than some full releases.
So i have a bout 250 hours on it now and i do agree with a lot of what you’re saying. I still aim for specific duos and such but it isnt as crucial to most of the builds i do. I find that i think more about the combinations of boons and my choices a bit more. I recently went back to play hades 1 for the first time since hades 2 came out and while i did have a blast, it was actually really refreshing, i did not like the double dash and sprint that i originally preferred when hades 2 came out. I got used to it again pretty quick and won my first run back pretty handedly i might add, but i really missed being able to sprint. I think you will find a handful of builds that you really enjoy in hades 2 but it might take a while honestly because yeah, there are just so many fun builds. I also really like the cast in hades 2 but i find that i don’t really do as many cast based builds like i did in hades 1. Like, i find it more fun and useful in hades 2 but i just havent found any boons that make it super op like you could do with bloodstones.
Game is good. But whoever the voice actor is for Zagreus absolutely nailed it, and the voice actor for Melinoe is... good, but the direction of her is pretty bad - too serious and grim for my taste.
I'm 110 hours and about 130 runs into Hades 2, win almost every run at least on low difficulty now. It's really an improvement over the first one in a huge way in terms of gameplay. My favorite part is that casts are much more straightforward to build around and get value out of. I almost never wanted to do cast-based builds in the first Hades but now it's a mechanic that augments so many builds in a lot of ways.
After 115.7 hours played of Hades 2, I have everything maximized that I can at the moment. I don't know if some of these are spoilers so I just put it behind a tag to be safe.
The biggest grind was all of the trips to Oceanus for those darn Lotus flowers to make Witch's Delight for the animals. Otherwise, lots of runs with Keepsakes that I didn't really want but needed to complete the required encounters.
Ayy, same here (my fear is a bit all over the place though). I keep noticing everyone having trouble with Lotuses and it makes me wonder if I just got super lucky in an earlier update because I've never had to grind for anything like that in particular.
Same, I had plenty of lotus, I've only ever had to go hunt for 1, which I found 2nd run, to get my 5th familiar to Max. I think we got lucky.
You got more to do. Grind all decorations, make sure the Book of Shadows is full, and complete those Fear runs. I believe in you!
Will you start new save when 1.0 drops?
I thought about this a lot during early access and ultimately the time it takes to unlock everything is too much that by the time I get where I am currently it would have been a waste of time.
They made the process of unlocking things a lot faster compared to when early acess 1 released and odysseus gives you a ton of resources randomly by talking to him in the early game. Eris's "blessing" also gives you increased rewards and she goes away faster.
Overall, progression has been made a lot quicker and I know all this because I had put the game down for a long time and skipped the Olympic update and came back for patch 8 (the minor patch after warsong) and since it'd been too long I decided to create a new save. I rekon they're gonna make things even easier and even faster in 1.0
I feel this. My plan is to finish the game on my main save file and then maybe start a fresh save with god mode on just to hit the main storyline stuff.
What's the reasoning behind it starting a new save?
Mostly getting to experience the story a little bit like it should be. Though you will likely beat the runs much much faster than you are expected to.
The v.1.00 version is probably going to be so different from the very first release that the journey/progression from a fresh save back to 100% is going to be a very different experience; for me it'll feel like playing a modded version.
It's not quite a 'new game' feeling, but it'll be closer than simply if I were to replay an old game where both 'first times' was the finished game.
No wrong way to go about it, though.
I'm just farming all the decorations now. Also trying to beat 32 fear on every weapon. Might do some 50 fear runs.
I have like 150 hours into this game….. I just NOW found out I can lvl up familiars lol.
1 week. I've had this game for 1 week. In that week, I've logged 60 hours. Granted, a good chunk of that was taking breaks and just leaving the game on, but still at least 40 hours in a week. It's just too fun. How am I supposed to do other stuff this summer when I could instead be playing Hades? I'm not even good at it, I've only beaten [redacted] a couple times. But even though I'm bad it's just so fun, so I want to get better
I’m pretty sure SGG have somehow managed to infuse the pure addictive essence of crack cocaine into their game.
Well either that or they have just made a well polished game that they put many hours of love, blood, sweat and tears into while also respecting the players of their games.
It’s probably the second one but the first one sounds more insane and funny.
Also congrats on beating redacted a few times already. Here are some links that should be able to help you understand the game better.
Leereamsnyder’s Hades 1 Build Guide!
Widely considered the Hades 1 Bible(jokingly but for good reasons). It is one of, if not the best Hades 1 guide out there.

Use them now, use them later or never use them. These are just tools I’ve given you that you can use if you so wish.
Also one more thing before I go. This sub is usually pretty chill and it’s rather helpful as well. So don’t be afraid to ask questions.
Usually you will get at least a few answers within the first hour to day of posting.
Good luck, have fun and always remember,
THERE IS NO ESCAPE!!! EVIL LAUGHTER!!!
Damn. You got this many helpful links for Hades 2? I just got it and feel like I have yet to get it like I did Hades 1.
There is really not that many things made. Since H2 is still in EA and subject to chance every few months. No one has made big guides like these.
I don’t have time right now to make any sort of mini guide for you. It will have to wait until after I’m done with work.
I second that this sub is very chill. I'm a 43 year old gamer so have been a member of lots of gaming subs and people here are great. I just started the game last week as well, got it for $10 on PS5. I've got 30ish hours in and took me 47 runs to see the surface. So much to do and loving it!
Wep. I’ve been here in this sub near daily for over a year and I can count the number of truly toxic interactions I’ve have had here on one hand.
I don't think I'm going to quit playing until Hades 2 comes out on the Switch.
EXACTLY. THIS GAME IS MY NEW ADDICTION. Although I got carpal tunnel and have to take a break from it, how will I survive??
Yeah I once had to use my middle finger to left click because I was fighting REDACTED for the first time 😭
Oof. I can't beat Lernie, and it's really annoying because I'm so close to beating him, them he kills me at the last second. And my dad is um... Not giving me the best advice? I think he's assuming I'm farther in the game than I actually am lol. Told me to start fishing, but I don't have a rod.
Hades 1 was fantastic and jumping to hades 2 was a bit strange because u are used to the first games visuals and combat but its a breath of fresh air. I highly recommend hades 2! Ive done only 7 runs so far but dont want to rush it because its early access still and im waiting for the offical release.
Definitely a wise choice. As much as i loved the dozens of hours I've already put into Hades II, I also kind of regret it a little bit because I've locked myself out of the full experience, in a sense.
The underworld is basically missing a few cutscenes as far as i can tell, but these are the most important part. Imagine beating the final boss in game 1 for the first time and NOT seeing the incredibly beautiful and emotional cinematic that follows.
Done achievements wise but you are barely scratching the surface in terms of content
No way that's barely scratching the surface. As someone who played for 200 hours, I'd say most dialogue ended at around 100 which this person isn't that far from. I guess there's a chance they haven't tried most builds and high heat, but we can't know that.
I've done up to 32 heat to unlock the third Skelly Statue. Definitely not a game im done playing, just thrilled to have finally gotten all of the Achievements!
No victory or first achievement posts or screenshots.
Of course it feels great when finally defeating [REDACTED], beating xx heat, unlocking something or earning an achievement. But consider if even 0.1% of users of this sub posted these experiences it would be a flood of low value content. These are not "obligatory" posts.
You can share that sort of content on the official Supergiant Games Discord server in the #hades-victory-boasting and #hades2-victory-boasting channels.
I know how to upgrade in the card thing. But is there like any other ways to get stronger in the game? Well I guess more so passives before the runs. There are the gods in the runs. By the time I get to the second section, the ocean, like I feel so weak. The enemies feel alot strong, which makes sense but it feels like a big jump to me. But yes is there other ways to get stronger?
The meta progression (that is, progression outside each individual Night) comes from running Nights, defeating higher foes, and talking to people around. Some of them will give you Keepsakes and Incantations.
Those Incantations are used at the cauldron, to unlock stuff like weapon aspects, trading for materials that you can then use to buy and upgrade the Nocturnal Arms, buying and upgrading your Arcana cards.
Running more Nights and going farther while collecting materials will open up more avenues to get stronger.
Then, there's your knowledge of the game. Learning how to make a build that is viable and good with your weapon and its Aspect, leaning the attack patterns of the foes you encounter, how and when to attack, etc. Which is honestly the best way to get stronger at the game. A lot of it comes from practice, and some amount comes from either thinking prior to a run what kind of build you're working towards (+ experimentation), or bouncing around the community to learn the good builds.
I’m stilling learning and trying to
Upgrade at the alter. You need to hover over the arcana slot on right to upgrade maximum. Upgrade individual cards directly once you can.
Now I reread it lol. Just keep doing runs and collect resources. Most of the skill in these comes from doing runs. Trial and error until it sticks for each region once you learn how enemies fight. GL little hades
You can update individual ones? How?
There might be an incantation to unlock the upgrades to cards, but each card has 2 upgrades. It's the main thing that dream dust is used for
You must gain insight into how it works. Progress as best you can to unlock more features. Concoctions made in the cauldron will help over time as well. Mostly you just have to try. Not every progression unlock is tied to successful runs, just attempts. It might not seem like a lot at first but you'll start unlocking all sorts of mechanics and helpful features as you keep doing runs
Get mats, upgrade weapons.
How for both?
Keep playing. There are incantations to unlock gathering tools, unlock aspects and allow you to upgrade Arcana cards.
I am literally FROTHING AT THE MOUTH to play this game.
I love looking at all of these posts about clearing builds, the different play styles of the different weapons, the boons and the new curses etc. I am getting so excited and wish it would just come out already. This is a really cool community and I know that it’s all love for the game. Seriously can’t wait.
I’m very jealous of you experiencing it for the first time, I hope it’s as good as you’re imagining when it’s done! I’m loving it so far, I have minor quibbles but overall think the broader fanbase will love it. I don’t regret participating in EA, it’s a lot of fun to see the game change and feel I’ve been a part of it, but I also totally understand people who only want to read the full book when it’s ready, haha. Every update seems to get better and bigger; I’ve put in about 120 hours in total and I’m still not done finding and doing stuff lol.
I'm over 400 hours into this game and I'm still discovering details! I love it so much
You are already playing it right, Froth build is OP ;)
Ive been playing since day 1 early access, experiencing everything and all changes was actually a really fun ride!
I have been as well though with each update I start over to get the full experience. I think I am at like 500 hours in game
I bought a steam deck basically for this game
My steam deck turned into a dedicated hades/hades 2 machine as well
I can't decide whether to get on S2 or Steam Deck
Hit convoys and elite squads at your highest comfortable level, do as many parachute drop collections and propaganda broadcasts as you can- bounties are good too.
Don’t sleep on target practices either if you run by one
Grouping with a team can help, extra xp from team work and can be quicker to complete activities
Turning at least 3-4 directives to world map or different activities you do. Keep your difficulty level at where you are comfortable but adding directives increases your XP. Also leveling up your specializations that you don't normally use. 👍
Which directives for a new players do you suggest?
Okay, based on the fact of how each work. The easiest ones to deal with
Ammo hoarders - Just make sure to keep two different weapons and don't over reload. Make sure to empty your clips. Any ammo still in the clip while reloading is lossed.
Fog of war revisited - The counter to this and knowing where all the enemies are is having a assault turret active, it shows a little button to press for it to shoot at that enemy. Just make sure to be pointing in the direction of where the enemy is coming from. Whether it be from a door. Don't loose track of cover.
Scavenged skills - It's easy to be able to use two skills with this because all you have to do to bring back your other skill on cool down is killing an enemy and collect the green collectible. More things you collect faster your skills come back.
Your fourth choice can be interchangeable based on what you're willing to give up.
**Special Ammo - Enemies have unique ammo buffs against you depending on their faction. It's really easy to deal with this one because you're going to want to avoid being shot anyway. So once you see somebody have the bullet icon above them shoot them first before all the other enemies and you won't have to deal with this one. It's basically free XP.
**Cool skills - You only get to use one skill at a time. While using this one go with two healing skills makes it easier for survivability.
Honestly whatever you feel more comfortable doing. There are directives that are hard but rewarding but only if you have the skills to handle it. So honestly just read them and pick the ones that don't sound too hard for ya. That's about the best way to do them. Also could test them out on a mission just to see if you aren't sure about a certain one.
DZ Heroic Landmarks
Hades was the game that introduced me to the genre, and that’s a pretty high bar to beat. I was on the fence about the sequel, because I usually don’t buy early access, and sequels are often not as good.
But my god, I have been sucked into this one. It’s just so good. The combat is just as fun as ever, the voice acting just scratches my brain in the right way, it’s gorgeous, and I’m just obsessed. It’s hitting that ‘one more run’ mentally for me so hard right now.
Very good game, shame I'm absolutely dog shit at it.
It's so fucking good. They absolutely crushed it. It's probably my #1 or #2 game recommendation of the last decade.
Supergiant is one of a couple devs that I’ll give money to in early access, they’ve proven time and time again that my money is well spent on their games. This one took everything good about the first game and turned it up to 13. They bring out the best in the voice talent (seriously compare Mel and Neyrelle in D4) and the writing is as good as ever.
I haven’t been able to go back to the first game because this one is just strictly better
Thankfully, this game is seeing a HUGE revival in player count, and it’s awesome to be a part of! However with all these level 2’s, there are many returning level 200’s, and I’ve had a few friends personally getting too frustrated to continue playing.
To help facilitate the progression of anyone who wishes to look up some tips, drop your best advice for a beginner! I’ll start:
Co-op missions are your best friend early on! They can get you a LOT of XP for your heroes to get the best cards for HvV, as well as being the best way to level up all of your classes and unlock new weapons and attachments. Triple XP days are Wednesday, and I leveled up 4 characters I’d never played before (Grievous, Dooku, Obi-Wan, and Anakin) and took my Assault and Heavy classes to level 35 each all over the course of about 6-7 hours of play!
Hi, said new player here. Thanks for the tips. Ive only just started and for now I've only tried GA and supremacy. Im trying each class to see what works for me but;
I only play to have fun in the little time I have left after work, so I get about 10-12 kills per game with about 4-5000 points per game so an absolute noob. Some games I enjoy, some games I get smashed withvallbsorts of heroes/villakns flying everywhere
I try and play the objectifs (more important to me that the team wins than K/D ratios, but as a starwars fan Im just loving playing in this universe.
Im slowly starting to understand the cards and weapons etc. Is my best bet just to keep on keeping on or do I need to play a certain class more than another to better learn the game etc? Thanks in advance
Play as a trooper(or reinforcements), stick with your teammates, and if you see a dot with a hole in it, run
Playing as good guys feels so much better than bad
Don't integrate with the existing community. It's unbearably toxic. Discover the game for yourselves.
Just have fun don’t get heated. It’s taken me 60 hours to actually start dominating and getting good with most of the characters.
Anyone know how to get cool gear and level up fast, I’m new.
The fastest way to level up gear and get legendaries is to play survival, but I've heard that new players leave when they lose just one defense point, so the next best option is to play story. If you are looking for legendaries, the harder the mode is, the better chance you have at epic and legendary gear.
Doesn’t happen so much, and you can just fill the empty slot, chances are the people that leave who sucks, so it’s actually a sign of a promising match, Even if you fail, rewards are still good and takes less time.
Okayyy thank you very much!!
Fastest will be stories. Most stories can be done in 15-20 mins, survival is usually 30-40 mins.
Always equip your highest level gear regardless of the perks/bonuses on it and regardless of the color/quality. The level of drops is based on what you're wearing.
Focus on one class until you get gear up to 105. A higher level class will be able to grind through stories faster.
Once you hit level 105, gold level activities won't help you level up anymore. At this point you need to reroll your gear to slowly get up to 110. You can also play nightmares and platinum survival to get 110 drops but it'll be hard until you're 110 yourself. If you get lucky you can get carried through nightmare stories.
Remember to do Quick Play to get more resources as you play, since resources will be your gating factor for 105-110.
Once you hit 110 then you begin the mastery grind, but I wouldn't worry about that for a bit.
Hey thanks for this, just a few questions:
Thanks in advance
Rerolling gear is something done via the "reforge" mechanism. When you're hovering over an item there should be a way to get to modifications (on Playstation this is square). Here is a decent Youtube breakdown of this process.
For dismantling, while you level up then yes I would say dismantle everything except for the highest ki. I actually think my post here is outdated, I want to say they made a change so the level of drops is based on the highest gear in your inventory, regardless of whether or not you have it equipped. However, as you're leveling, there's little reason to equip lower ki/rarity items as they should get replaced quickly as you grind. I believe the bonus values (ex. bonus melee damage %) go up with ki level so lower level items will likely not make such a large difference as to matter.
Let me know if that makes sense or if you need more explanation.
I replayed the first story stage till I got to 104. Normally it would be too boring but the combat in this game is so fun that it doesn't really matter if it's the same stage for the 20th time
Same. I'm at 105 with Severed hearts. Didn't even touch anything else. Played a few quick play survivals before moving on to this storry mission and they were too long for my liking. Might even have stopped playing altogether if I hadn't tried story mode.
Thank you, the discord chat is very helpful!
