TL;DR
Using Windows Settings
To perform a factory reset using Windows settings, navigate to the 'Settings' menu, select 'Update & Security,' then 'Recovery.' Choose 'Reset this PC' and follow the prompts. Ensure you select the option that wipes all your data to ensure a complete reset [3:1]. This method is straightforward and retains necessary drivers for basic functionality post-reset.
Dell OS Recovery Tool
The Dell OS Recovery Tool offers another viable option for resetting your laptop. This tool can be beneficial as it reinstalls the operating system along with all the necessary drivers specific to Dell hardware [3:1]. This method ensures that you won't face issues like missing WiFi or Ethernet drivers after the reset, which can occur with a clean install using Microsoft's image.
Creating a Bootable USB Drive
For a more traditional approach, you can create a bootable USB drive with Windows 10 or 11. This involves downloading the Windows Media Creation Tool, creating the bootable drive, and then booting from it by pressing F12 during startup [2:1]
[3:1]. This method allows for a fresh installation of the operating system but may require manual installation of drivers afterward.
Considerations and Precautions
Before performing a factory reset, ensure that any important data is backed up, as the process will erase all files on the device. Additionally, verify that you have access to necessary software and driver installations post-reset, especially if opting for a clean install without using Dell's recovery tool [5:3].

Is it possible for this to be reset.. it was an laptop from my old job that is no longer open and I bought it when the store was liquidating but I now need it for my new job
Get a 16GB flash drive and google Windows 10/11 Media Creation tool - it will create the flash drive for you then just hit most likely F12 when you first turn it on to boot to the flash drive for a clean wipe of the OS - watch a YouTube video should help
There are ways that a computer can be locked down such that it will ONLY boot from the internal storage without a password (and CMOS reset can even be locked out)
In my 29 years of life, I’ve not seen one bios locked computer, to the point, without googling, I’m not even convinced your logic is remotely correct.
Jumper pins on motherboards, while not as common these days, exist on tons of older hardware.
Anyone that has ever come to me ever with operating system restrictions, are always dumbfounded how easy it is to get access. Even the simplest of apes can use Hirens, so no
This
I flash a USB drive and install fresh from it anytime I need to anyways
I reccomend putting ventoy on the usb stick so you can put linux mint and windows on the usb because i highly reccomend trying out linux
Its probably locked down if it was a company asset.
The Laptop mighthave BIOS level restrictions.
Maybe not, but are normally locked up to prevent tampering.
Try image it through BIOS with a bootable USB etched with a windows 11 ISO
Hi, selling an M16 R2 and was wondering which reset method to use. Dell OS recovery method? or just go into windows settings and reset there.
thanks!
Bleachbit that hard drive. Or bitlocker it, then wipe the volume.
Honestly, either of those options is fine. You could also just grab a USB and make a bootable W11 drive and wipe it the old fashioned way as well. The benefit to using the Dell OS recovery is it will come with all the drivers. I know with my M18R2 I don't get WiFi or Ethernet on a clean install using Microsoft's image, I have to connect my phone via USB to get past Microsoft's BS login garbage.
If you do use the Windows settings make sure you check the one that wipes all your data. I believe that one will also retain the needed drivers to allow Windows to find all the devices as well, but it's been awhile since I have use that option. I almost always use a bootable USB.

today I had to remotely factory reset my google pixel phone. it was a long story that I don’t want to get into. I don’t have the phone and I won’t have access to the phone again. no it’s not stolen. I just need help with this specifically.
i factory reset the phone by logging into my google account on my iPad. I have the google photos app downloaded on my iPad and have for a while. when I look in there, the only things coming up are pics and videos I actually took on the phone, nothing I downloaded. I download stuff from things like TikTok, Pinterest, and other social media’s a lot and gathered a rather large collection on the phone. none of them are coming up in the google photos app. yes I have back up and sync turned on, it says it’s up to date. how do a retrieve those downloads? theyre really important to me. I’ll try to provide any other info needed in the replies
Google photos wouldn't have backed up the downloads folder by default.
If they're not there, then they're not there. There won't be anything you can do about it since you've factory reset the phone
This is why verifying backups is so important
Did you tell Google Photos to backup that folder? It doesn't by default.
How do you tell Google Photos to do this?
Go into any folder in your On Device section of Google Photos, and check the Backup box at the top.
If you didn't have those specific folders set to be backed up on the phone, then they're likely not backed up. I can't check right now as I'm currently on an iphone but if I recall only pictures taken by the device are backed up by default unless you specifically set extra folders to be backed up. To verify, you can go to photos.google.com on a desktop/laptop and if they don't show up there, then they are likely not backed up.
>How to retrieve downloads after factory reset.
You don't. A factory reset wipes the encryption keys
Anybody know if I hold the reset button on the nas will it reset my network settings as well because I kind of need them reset. I’m having issues mainly with doctor because apparently since I have two Internet ports, it’s getting confused and I am able to literally connect to my docker sometimes using ETH0 or ETH1 ip addresses despite only having one ethernet cord connected. I most likely messed up my network settings pretty badly so i need them reset asap because i don’t want to do a factory reset

Please press and hold the RESET pinhole on the back of the NAS for 5 seconds until you hear a single beep. This will reset the network settings. Afterward, try logging in using the username "admin" with no password. This will direct you to a one-time password reset interface. Here is the article for your reference: https://support.ugnas.com/knowledgecenter/#/detail/eyJpZCI6ODgxLCJ0eXBlIjoidGFnMDAyIiwibGFuZ3VhZ2UiOiJlbi1VUyIsImNsaWVudFR5cGUiOiJQQyIsImFydGljbGVJbmZvSWQiOjI5NCwiYXJ0aWNsZVZlcnNpb24iOiIiLCJwYXRoQ29kZSI6IiJ9 Important Notes:A 5-second press only resets the network and administrator password. A 13-second press performs a factory reset, which will remove all installed applications and their configurations. Only the data in your storage pool will be preserved.
Using a computer analogy, since the Constitution hasn't been changed, and so far no critical error amendments have been introduced, it's all the processes (politicians) that are running the government that have gone rogue.
What would be the least destructive way to do the equivalent of spamming control C to stop these rogue processes and then factory reset the government so it actually works?
I mean... the factory setting got us to this point. Really need an entirely new OS that's not spaghetti code on top of spaghetti code trying to cobble 50 discreet systems (comprised of their own spaghetti code) together.
Also the original coders and many subsequent coders that have added to this have many lines of malicious code mixed in as well. Too many backdoors and bloatware.
The EU might be a good repo to fork from...
I'd consider you to look up the term eurocentric institutionalism. Between that and neoliberalism, the world was taken over by western corporations and anyone standing against that was bombed.
You are opperating under the blissful ignorance of the fact that the old semi functional government you believe was fully functional isn’t the same government that got us here.
We are here because the government functioned the way it did. It promotes the wrong people/class to power, and there’s no systems built in to stop it.
No amount of rewinding or fixing the old system will ever change that fact. Our government is fundamentally flawed.
We allow ourselves to ignore the fact that we are described as a “flawed democracy” because it lets us sleep better at night. We read the democracy part and sorta just gloss over the flawed part as if that wasn’t the more important word of the two.
Our government even when it seemed to be working ~ a decade or two ago, did not work. It never really has. It just got kinda close. But deep down it’s always done the exact same thing. Represent the rich, and do whatever it can for the poor after that.
But now it’s been ~250 years and after centuries of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer, we are starting to really feel the flaws. They were always there, they were just easier to ignore.
We can’t go back to what once was. It didn’t work. It got us here. We need to go forward to what we know must replace it.
everyone, this is important.
We ask a lot of questions about how to do this, why we can’t do that?
It’s all the same answer, has been forever.
Elect a majority who REJECT corporate pac money
It is the only way. Those who accept pac money are compromised and will never be willing to go against their donors in favor of the people.they don’t want anything to be passed if it doesn’t benefit them, and they don’t want to give up any power, and they will spend as much as they need to on their bought and paid for reps to make it happen. We MUST have a majority who does not have this conflict.
Flush, them, out. Do it this time. Do not re-elect your senator and house rep, if they accept corporate pac money. There will be a candidate who is running without that conflict, elect them instead. Doesn’t matter who you recognize from tv, if they accept corporate pac money, they HAVE to be removed.
It isn’t the government that’s the problem. The government is the victim of the problem. The problem is that unrestrained capitalism has bought all of the controls that used to protect us from unrestrained capitalism. Now all media tells the exact same story. All regulators are owned by the regulated. And government protects the rich, and only the rich.

Hi-
I have a new-to-me red etap 11 speed wifli derailleur that I cannot get to show in the axs app. I can pair it with my old-to-me levers and it will shift (in need of indexing). Im making up and working down a trouble shooting list and I think a factory reset may be worth a try. How does one go about that? The little instructions that I have come across dont seem to work.
11sp doesn’t have an app, it’s eTap not AXS. There was a USB dongle at one point but good luck finding one. That stuff doesn’t have firmware updates as far as I remember.
yikes, thanks! I guess I'll somehow do it manually.
I could be incorrect but the 11 speed isn’t part of the AXS range so doesn’t work on the App.
I had an 11-speed Red and a 12-speed AXS and the former never appeared on mine.
what app do I use?
There isn’t an App AFAIK.
Did you find the user manual online? Pretty detailed installation and fine tuning instructions in there.
I did find that, thanks!
Recently purchased a home that has a Lorex N862A62. Only trouble is the previous owner does not know the admin password and I am unsure how to do a factory reset on the unit so I can put my own information in. Any advice on how I could go about getting resetting the unit?
The default admin logon for most (all?) Lorex NVRs (units with the 1st character = N) is ID = admin, password = 000000 or nothing.
Note that the previous owner would also need to release the unit from their account but don't do this until you are able to logon as admin on the unit. If you can't logon with the credentials above then the previous owner should follow the instructions for having the admin password reset.
See the Lorex support article at https://help.lorex.com/support/solutions/articles/72000645042-what-to-do-before-selling-or-transferring-lorex-devices-to-a-new-owneso
After you are able to logon to the NVR as admin you can reset the the entire system including any attached cameras to factory default through the NVR. Any recordings previously made while the system was operational will still be on the hard drive. You can reformat after you are able to logon although having old recordings won't hurt anything. The system overwrites the oldest recordings when the hard drive is out of space.
Thanks for the info. I’ll give the 000000/nothing password a try.
Don’t think I’ll be able to have the previous owner release the unit from their account. Seller’s late husband set this up and seller barely knows how to get onto google.
Without being able to release the NVR from the previous owner's account you might have a problem getting the unit attached to your account which would be necessary to activate it. If the previous owner used the Lorex app on their phone or tablet then if they have access to their phone/tablet which usually remembers the ID/passwords then they would be able to release the unit through the app. Perhaps the previous owner has a friend or family member who could handle.
Yes you would have to open the unit and do a reset via the motherboard. Unplug all camera and power open the unit, plug the monitor and press the reset button and put the power back. Google and there are specific instructions. System will beep and do a factory reset. Thereafter plug all cameras back if POE to gain power and do a physical reset to each camera via its own reset button. Once you do that all cameras should reconnect to defaults settings.
However previous owner does have to delete the NVR profile from his app otherwise you will only see it local not over the internet.
Not sure if it's true but I once heard there is a factory reset button on the circuit board inside the case.
And maybe try calling Lorex and explain the situation.

with a usb boot stick.
Windows password or BIOS password
If windows, reinstall
If BIOS, you're SOL
its a thinkpad, its pretty trivial to remove the cmos battery which will reset it to defaults.
Does a cmos reset kill bios passwords? Huh, thought it didn't, guess I'm wrong
