Updating the BIOS on a Dell laptop is a straightforward process, but it requires careful attention to ensure everything goes smoothly. Here are some key steps and considerations based on user discussions.
Check for Cumulative Updates
Dell BIOS updates are generally cumulative, meaning you can update directly to the latest version without needing to install previous versions first [2:1]. However, it's crucial to read the release notes for any specific requirements or interim updates that might be necessary before proceeding
[2:2].
Preparation Steps
Before updating the BIOS, ensure that you suspend BitLocker to avoid issues during the update process [2:1]. If your system doesn't use BitLocker, make sure to disable any other device encryption features
[2:5]. It's also advisable to back up important data as a precautionary measure.
Downloading and Installing the Update
To update the BIOS, download the latest BIOS file from the Dell support website. Make sure to select the correct model of your laptop to avoid compatibility issues. Once downloaded, follow these steps:
Post-Update Considerations
After updating the BIOS, you may need to reset certain settings such as Windows Hello PIN due to changes in the TPM (Trusted Platform Module) [5:1]
[5:2]. Additionally, if you encounter boot issues post-update, it might be related to other software conflicts rather than the BIOS update itself
[5:4].
Troubleshooting and Support
If you face any issues during or after the BIOS update, consulting Dell's support resources or forums can provide guidance. As noted in the discussions, sometimes community forums or tools like Microsoft's Copilot can offer helpful troubleshooting advice [5:5].
By following these guidelines, you can effectively manage BIOS updates on your Dell laptop, ensuring both security and performance improvements.

How much power is this running if left running 24/7? Do you need 220v receptacle?
Im not sure the actual draw but I am running it off a standard 110 plug with no issues.
As an Indiana lad, I genuinely yearn for that 640 lol
6k for the entire setup is wildly expensive. Indianapolis here as well. Reach out to u/KooperGuy as he may still have some 14th gen configured exactly as you want (or multiples). Including full NVMe configured units, 740XDs, etc. He will ship to Indy as well.
He's a good guy, knowledgeable and won't overcharge you. Haven't spoken with him in a few weeks so no clue what he has, but he would be the first person i reach out to for anything Dell or refer people too, even still.
i Have a Dell G15 5535 with the factory bios from 2023 (Dell Inc. 1.2.0, 21/07/2023), and i want to update to the latest version 1.15.0 (12 Aug 2025), do i need to gradually update or i can just download the latest firmware?
Mostly no, but as others have said, sometimes you have to update to version 1.8, for example, before you can go to 2.0. This is why it's important to actually read the release notes that accompany the BIOS.
Thanks I'll double check but I dont think they mentioned anything like that
It the README doesn't state anything about a minimum required BIOS version, you can just update to the latest version directly.
Yes they dont mention so hopefully it works
There are times where they separate major versions that have to be installed first as component firmwares are updated and the later bios versions aren't tested without the new firmwares. Generally the bios pre-installer will warn you if you need to install a previous version before continuing.
OK thanks for the info good to know about the installer warnings
I see no interim BIOS update requirements. You should be good to update from 1.2.0 to 1.15.0.
Ensure you suspend BitLocker before updating the BIOS.

Thanks , since i'm windows family I don't have bitlocker, but I have another option that I've already disabled "device encryption" or smth is it good to go?
How fast is vivo update its phone? How long Vivo will update x200 ultra ?
From my experience it will be almost every 2 weeks until almost the next ultra is out, after that it will be monthly updates. From what I know vivo give us 3 years of Origin OS updates and 5 of security patches or smth like that
2030 on ultra and 1 yr of security patches
So far, very frequent. Since its release in late April, I've been getting an update roughly every 1 to 3 weeks on my X200U.
Not sure if they're going to keep that pace up though, once the X200U is no longer their latest and greatest device.
My understanding is they'll do 4 years of updates and an additional 1 year of security patches.
Credits to Torasapphire for notifying me about this.
For anyone who has a Dell Inspiron XPS with an old BIOS, you might have gone looking for an update only to find that the latest on Dell's website is A03. If you try searching for newer versions, a forum comes up asking about it, but not the BIOS download itself.
However, Torasapphire mentioned that the file still exists on Dell's servers; there's just nothing searchable linking you to it. You can manually link yourself to the download though. I should note that I have not tested these, and use then at your own peril.
The link is: https://downloads.dell.com/bios/ixps_a06.exe
Additionally, this works for other versions of the BIOS, and you can even see the patch notes at https://downloads.dell.com/bios/ixps_a06.txt
However, do NOT install A04, which I believe is why A03 is the newest that you can get to normally. A04 has some issue that causes it to not boot properly or something. A05 fixed this issue according to the notes.
I hope this helps!
Has anyone archived these?
What models exactly are these for? I have an XPS T500 with AO3.
The original Dell Inspiron XPS laptop. Twin of the Inspiron 9100. Model is PP09L. I really wish Dell gave it a less generic name…
If you're curious as to "so what", the biggest thing from the release notes is
The Prescott E-0 is 64 bit, which is pretty significant. It's also 90nm manufacturing, which should mean it's going to be a massive upgrade for that old dell in terms of efficiency and heat - or overclocking and performance.
What CPU is the E-0? I saw that in the notes and I didn’t reslly understand what it meant
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentium_4
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Pentium_4_processors#Prescott_(90_nm)
Looking back.. man we were scrabbling for any bit of performance we could get.
Please keep in mind that I'm out of the game. I'm just doing a bit of reading because it caught my eye.
This works if you know the exact name of the bios file and I'm sure older versions carry the same naming structure as the newer versions. Good find plus props for the warning about the A04 version so this info can really help those who have these particular XPS models.
Hey all,
I just had a pretty rough experience and wanted to see if anyone else has run into something similar (or has advice on how to stabilize things going forward).
Here’s what happened:
I installed a Windows 11 update, and it soft-bricked my Gigabyte laptop, as it did for many others on this forum.
I couldn’t boot properly, so I ended up having to do a BIOS update to get past the issue.
After that, Windows went into the “did not start correctly / automatic repair” screen. From there, I chose the option to continue to Windows 11.
I was able to get in, but my PIN login was suddenly invalid. I had to reset a new PIN before it let me through.
Now I’m back in Windows, but I’m not feeling too confident. I haven’t even restarted again yet, and Windows 11 is already pushing me to update once more.
So now I’m stuck wondering:
Is my system actually stable, or am I just sitting on borrowed time before it fails again?
Should I block updates for a bit, or let them through?
Would it be smarter to just do a clean wipe/reinstall of Windows to make sure there aren’t lingering issues?
Has anyone else had these kinds of problems with Gigabyte laptops + Windows 11 updates, or specifically with the BIOS update “fix”?
Any advice on best practices to prevent this happening again (or to confirm that my system is truly fixed) would be hugely appreciated.
Bios update resets the soft tpm so resetting pin is normal.
So the failed to boot properly is normal?
Resetting windows hello pin after bios flashing is normal and expected.
Honestly windows update breaking your computer is pretty normal too.
Go to the copilot, inform it about your spec and ask everything you need to know, it will help you instantly and you can ask in multiple ways making it easy to understand.
I will try this, I am already using chatgpt but ill see if they are different
I am also quite a beginner in the PC build and upgrade space, learning bit by bit. I had faced multiple issues during windows 10 to 11 and also graphics tuneup due to my legendary processor and mobo drama combo. I looked online and getting the exact solution for my spec is quite impossible because of how many people have the same build. So, at that point Microsoft Copilot did help me a lot.
Like the title says. It stayed stuck at 0% for about an hour and I finally called Dell Support (I have a service contract with them).
They never said a word about unplugging the USB stuff. Instead, they told me to remove the AC cable from the computer and then hit the power button. I hit the power button and held it for about 30 seconds but no change; the computer would not turn off.
So they told me to just wait three hours until the battery is totally drained and the computer shuts off. Then replug the AC, wait for five minutes, then turn the computer back on and it should do a normal BIOS update at that point.
The thing is, after I unplugged the AC, and after I hit the power button with no success, Dell Support then told me to contact them through email as a follow-up if the reboot/re-update got stuck again. However, after they said good-bye, I started googling and found out about disconnecting the USB stuff. So I disconnected my USB hub, but it had no effect. I'm thinking that maybe the reason why it had no effect was because the power was disconnected. Is it correct that a BIOS update WILL NOT PROCEED if it sees the computer is running on battery? Might I find that, if I disobey Dell support, and plug the AC back in, it will start doing the update because I've disconnected the USB hub? Or will that not make any difference? Hope all of that makes sense.
Hi ! Same for me this week !
A BIOS update on my DELL XPS 14 9440 was performed with DELL Support Assist, my computer restarted without issue (but I was not in front of the computer during the whole udated process), then I shut it down by the end of the day.
The day after, it hang with a high CPU fan noise on the screen "Checking BiosConnect Wireless Payload".
DELL support ask me to shut it down but no effect using the power button, I had to wait the battery drain...
When I started it again, it stucks on the XPS logo with no more information but I was able to stop/start it using the power button again.
The next day, a technician replaced my laptop's motherboard, and everything went smoothly after that!
Good luck !
I got luckier. Once the battery had drained, I plugged the charger back in and waited five minutes. Then I turned the thing back on --
-- AND IT REBOOTED RIGHT BACK INTO THE OS LIKE NOTHING HAD HAPPENED!!!
I consider myself immensely lucky! Especially considering the horror stories I'd read!
The odd thing was that when I went back to the Windows Update menu again to try to run the update again --
-- IT SAID I WAS UP TO DATE!!
HUH???!!
So the update-that-never-happened became the update-that-never-was.
Weirdest damn thing. And scariest.
Completely unrelated has been the strange intermittent death of the Fn F5 keystroke, the one that reloads a browser page. Starting about two weeks ago, it became intermittent, and I occasionally had to use Control R instead. It got worse and worse and finally, today, I can't get the command to happen at all; I've had to switch over to Control R completely.

Why not just RTFM?
I know right? It's like when I need to place a ULine order. I just get out their 7 lbs catalog, page to the back for the index, look up 3-4 descriptions of what I'm looking for until I figure out what it's indexed under, then find the page that has my needed item. Next, I go to the front hall where the phone is mounted in its nook and call the nice people at the company. Can't tell you how many good friends I've made while placing those orders. Kids these days will never understand the simpler way of doing things.
What FM???! Internet is the F manual!
What are you, a casual?
The last 3 days I’m trying to update the bios version on my B850M aorus elite.
I found out that downloading from the official gigabyte website, not even one version working. It pops the message Bios id check error. After some digging I found out that a new website called aorus dedicated to aorus motherboards exist. I downloaded the bios form there and boom, it worked. That’s ridiculous, at least make a note so people don’t have to dig all night to update the bios
I did not know about this Aorus website. I have the Z 790 Aorus elite ax ice running F5 bios. Running it with a 13700k CPU. I went to the gigabyte website about a month ago and it said there was a bios update available. F6g which is not listed on gigabyte control center which I've been using for bios updates. No USB stick needed
First thing make sure you're downloading the correct BIOS for your motherboard revision. Aka Rav 1. Rav 2 and so on
Second thing make sure you're using a good USB drive. I've had issues in the past with Samsung drives.
It’s a new motherboard there is only one revision
Not only that, it's rare to have more than one revision. For example for my Auorus X570 Elite, there is no other revision, and bunch of other boards I haven't seen any more revisions. It's a rare thing to have a 2nd revision, at least in my eyes.
Uh, hate to break this to you ... but the lower left screw hole of your motherboard shows the board revision. The BIOS ID is also located inside the "Hardware Info" tab of the BIOS itself and in the filename of the ZIP file of the BIOS update. Whenever the BIOS IDs don't match, you downloaded the wrong BIOS for your board. There's separate BIOS updates for different board revisions - each with their own unique BIOS ID to prevent people like you from cross-flashing their boards with the wrong BIOS ...
It’s a new board there is only one revision, go check it your self
I would not share this if that was the problem
Would've been nice if you added a hyperlink to that Aorus website. Just for the future care, as currently I'll be able to find it myself.
Try to flash with the motherboard qflash button
Why? I just mentioned the solution on the post. I have updated the bios
For some reason, that way even the gigabyte bios works. I don't know why though. But if you solved flashing aorus one, sweet. Not sure what's going on
Curious on what happened it didn't lose power from me, it just shut off during the update and now it refuses to post just flashes this light code. Can't find what it means
have you also tried waiting? some bios updates make the capslock button flash and make the fan speed go nuts. but after waiting for 5 minutes (or more) they usually turn on normally.
Yes, i hated it aswell when it happened to me.
Yeah I've tried waiting and it doesn't seem to do anything the power light doesn't even come on
Very common with hp business laptops. None of the typical recovery methods will work (I.e. recovery usb, win+b).
The only option is to get ec and bios chip from ebay and solder on fresh chips.
Technically you might be able to recover both ec and bios chips using ch341a, often bios chip locks up to the point of no recovery.
Once the laptop is recovered, do not reset bios settings! Disable all bios auto recovery and integrity settings, then update bios to the latest version from the USB!
Note: hope you saved your bitlocker recovery keys. Note 2: ideally you should dump dmi data from your existing chips.
gotta love hp. the elitebooks are great, but damn they still manage to half-ass the hardware. my 850 g6 currently is down one headphone jack (who knows what happened, just stopped working like 1.5 years since i bought it) a usb (turns out there's no overcurrent protection, at all. it goes untill a power components dies and shorts (had to take the laptop apart and literally cut the burnt component out, at the least it boots now). also recently speakers seem to have died.
i love my elitebook but damn
BIOS corrupted
I would try a BIOS recovery first. You can make a USB using the BIOS update file for your machine. It should have an option to make a recovery USB. Basically make the USB, Plug it into your laptop, Hold Windows Key + B and press power. Hopefully it starts recovering the BIOS from a failed update.
I'll try that
