Setting Up Multiplayer
To play multiplayer in Stardew Valley, you need to set up a multiplayer farm from the title screen. Once in the game, go to the options menu and click "send invite" to invite others to join your farm. It's important to note that multiplayer is only available on the same platform, as there is no cross-platform play [1:1].
Joining a Game
If you're joining a game, you'll need an invitation code from the host. This code allows you to connect to their farm and start playing together [1:2]. On platforms like PC, you can also invite friends through services like Steam once you've started hosting the game
[2:3].
LAN and Internet Options
While some players have experienced server issues, the LAN game option remains viable. It works over the internet if you set up port forwarding (port 24642), although this can be challenging for those unfamiliar with the process [2:2]. On mobile devices, ensure both players are connected to the same WiFi network, and consider using apps like Tailscale to facilitate connections
[4:2].
Connecting with Other Players
There are no official Stardew Valley servers for large-scale multiplayer games, but you can connect with other players through community platforms like Discord. These communities allow players to find others interested in multiplayer farming sessions [3:1]
[3:2].
Platform-Specific Instructions
For specific platforms like the Nintendo Switch, multiplayer is accessed through the "co-op" option on the main menu. From there, you can create or open a farm from the Host tab, and friends who have the game can join your farm [5:1]
[5:2]. If you're having trouble seeing the multiplayer option, ensure you're accessing it correctly from the main menu rather than from within the game's options tab
[5:2].
I dont know how to play multiplayer, like from distance, I saw a LAN but when I click nothing happens.
are there servers or something? Or is there a mod to do it?
You have to either host or join a game. If you are joining you need the invitation code from the host.
You must set up a multiplayer farm from the title screen and once in game(day one in your bed) go to the options menu and click send invite. It must be the same platform as well, there is no cross platform play
Ok Ok good.
But what do you exactly mean by "platform"?
My boyfriend and I have been super confused. I played Stardew multiplayer before but my friend hosted it. I looked things up online but it seems its been the way to do it has been outdated? Please help
The LAN Game option should probably still work. That's easy if you're on the same network, but despite the name, it actually works over the internet too, provided one of you can set up port forwarding (port 24642), which can be kind of challenging if you've never done it before.
Once you started hosting the game, you can try inviting them through steam
We tried but we can't?
Ok I did some digging and it turns out many people are having the same issue. Apparently the servers are down.
I guess it was just bad timing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hello, all server of Stardew Valley are DOWN... And ConcernedApe is not connected for activate the server... Now everyone need to wait... Sorry :/
Are they actually down goshh rip since when??
WOw damnnnn
Are there big multiplayer servers of this game? Or even just a way to talk to other players about playing together? I want to play with other people as I've only ever played alone before but I wouldn't know how or where to ask
There is a Discord server for Stardew where you can ask to join other people's farms or then to invite others to your farm. No actual Stardew servers as far as I know.
I'm sure there are some other ways to connect with other SV players to play together but Discord is the only one I know of and have used.
Oh thank you! I'll look it up :)
Hey! Heres my discord server intended for looking for people to play with and also anything else related to Stardew Valley! Come join! It a chill spot that needs active people! https://discord.gg/VATAVV6g
This would be amazing. Sort of like Open TIbia servers, but Stardew.
My brother and I both love stardew and both play on mobile. We have tried many times making new multiplayer world and type in the IP, but the connection always fails! Is there something I am doing wrong or missing because it always makes him upset. Oh and both of our devices are connected to the same WiFi
Maybe something on your firewall is blocking the connection. I always used tailscale for lan party, you should definitely try it out.
I don't play on mobile so this may not be helpful - on switch you can choose between a "local" connection or an "online" connection. Sometimes even if my fiance and I are sitting in the same room, on the same wifi, the local connection will not work. We have to do split screen or an online connection for it to work well.
I'm sorry I know this has probably been posted before, but I've scoured the internet and can't find a solution. When I go to select multiplayer in the pause screen above the sound on the options tab, the multiplayer option never shows up. I've tried so many different things to make this work and I'm at a loss. Please help!!
I have only done MP a few times on Switch, but I don't think you do it from the options tab. You have to click co-op from the main menu, and then create or open a farm from the Host tab on the top (or join someone else from the Join tab I think). Once you do, anyone who is your friend and has the game should be able to join your farm.
How do they join your farm?
Once you've opened a farm in multiplayer, then they just go to the same co-op option from the main menu. They should see your farm there if you are already Switch friends.
I finally got it to work! Thank you!!!
I want to play with other people I am not sure how to join other farms. Can anyone invite me to theirs (pref new as well) :)
Up and running right now actually at E6NMMG6RY57
Which platform are you on?
pc
OK, just making sure your platform had MP, some of them don't (yet).
Your best bet is probably to check the posts on r/stardewvalleyfriends. Or make your own post there (be sure to mention you're on PC, and what time of day you'd like to play, including timezone).
I host a lot. Msg me and we'll arrange a slot for you in a game soon.
So a friend of mine suggested I get this game, and I’m still very new. But I was curious about the multiplayer aspect of the game. How does it work?
Thanks to all who respond to this
It’s pretty configurable, basically you all share the farm (up to 4 people) and you can also open up your single player world to people. . You can chose in a new world how many cottages spawn if their far apart or close together. You can mess with money, weather it’s shared or individual and even toggle the profit margins. The one thing to know though is that in single player when you are interacting with something or in a cutscene/dialog time pauses but not in multiplayer.
There are ways to pause, but you’ll need to work out how. e.g. on Switch split screen, both players having menus open or a cut scene in progress is sufficient.
how do you pause multiplayer on PC?
Greatly appreciated, thank you
Hey! Me and my brothers each own a copy of this game, and we want to play together. How do we set that up? We're on PC.
No problem, enjoy! I love playing with others 😃
On the title screen, click Co-op and then create a farm with whatever options you want. Once you load in, an invite code will be in the chat. Your brother can join you using that code. He has to go to co-op too and then click "Join by Invite Code" and enter it there
Edit: Not sure if this is 100% accurate, as it was just off the top of my head. Let me know if you need further help 👍
All right, I'll try it. I'll tell you if it goes wrong.
I am pleased to tell you that that went excellently. Thank you very much.
Hey there everyone! I was a big Stardew valley player for a year or two a few years back and have been having the itch to get back in the game especially since a few updates have been launched since I last played.
I was wanting to know with a multiplayer farm I assume I would need friends who also play Stardew Valley to make that happen?
And if I don’t have friends who are currently playing how do I set up a multiplayer farm with people? Like create a post on here or something looking for people who would want to?
Really appreciate any and all comments, feedback, and questions. Thanks everybody!! :)
