What Redditors are Saying

How to Watch Naruto Without the Filler Episodes

TL;DR

  • Use resources like Naruto Kai or filler lists to skip non-essential episodes.
  • Some fillers are worth watching, such as those involving Itachi and Kakashi or the Chikara Arc.

Naruto Kai

A popular method for watching Naruto without fillers is through Naruto Kai, a fan-edited version that removes all filler content and unnecessary flashbacks. This version streamlines the viewing experience and focuses solely on the main storyline [1:1], [2:1], [4:2].

Filler Lists

Another approach is to use online filler guides, such as Anime Filler List, which detail which episodes are fillers and can be skipped. These lists help viewers focus on the canon episodes that contribute to the story's progression [1:8], [4:6].

Noteworthy Fillers

While most fillers can be skipped without impacting the main narrative, some arcs and episodes are considered worthwhile by fans. The Chikara Arc (Power Arc) is often recommended due to its high-quality animation and engaging fights [1:6]. Additionally, episodes focusing on characters like Itachi and Kakashi provide valuable backstory and are worth watching [1:4], [4:3].

Reading the Manga

For those who want to avoid fillers entirely, reading the manga is an option. The manga contains no filler content and provides the original storyline as intended by the creator [2:2], [3:3].

Personal Preference

Ultimately, whether to watch fillers depends on personal preference. Some viewers enjoy the additional character development and side stories provided by fillers, while others find them distracting from the main plot. A common recommendation is to skip fillers initially and return to them later if desired [5:1], [5:5].

ORIGINAL POST

I was wondering if I can skip all filler episodes completely, or is that going to affect the whole process of understanding the story ? I watched it way before but the filler made me take a lot of brakes and stopped watching it at the end And now I wanna watch it again and save some time

You can watch it without wasting time on the fillers, most of them are waste of time and doesn't add anything to the story.

I've been rewatching it through Naruto Kai. It's a little janky at parts and most of the openings are cut out which is a little bit of a bummer but over all the best way to watch the series.

Skip the filler, go back to it later. I read all of the manga first, then watched all of the anime. Trust me, the canon story is what's important.

I grew up watching og naruto so definitely watched some fillers but largely skipped most of em once I could tell it's fillerm.

I know there's some good ones but for the most part the series is already incredibly long, if you want you can look up the best fillers and include them during your watches.

Only fillers I watched tbh were the early naruto ones, and the backstory fillers of clans or characters like kakashi obito or itachi ans shisui. Other ones were dragging it imo I might’ve missed a couple nice fillers

1 upvotes on reddit
Death-T · 3 years ago

I mean, you don’t really have to worry about fillers for Part 1. You just watch episodes 1-135 and then watch the second half of episode 220. Or you can watch that last filler arc, episodes 216 to 220, because it transitions nicely into the Gaara Retrieval Arc in Shippuden and gives some screen-time to a background character in that canon story arc.

When you get to Shippuden, you have to decide whether or not to skip canon’ish fillers, like the 3 Tails filler that basically fills in the gaps left by the manga. It’s a little tricky to skip that arc because it mixes in some canon scenes.

You really only need a filler guide for Shippuden. This one here seems fine https://www.animefillerlist.com/shows/naruto-shippuden

Honestly, if you just want to see only what applies to the core story as adapted from the manga?

Yeah, probably best.

If you just like content that displays characters on unique and sometimes weird journeys?

Honestly, I don't think most of the filler is nearly as bad as most make it out to be.

Regardless, I personally would say watch it all, but maybe go back for the filler after the rest, if you'd prefer.

I’m currently revisiting the whole Naruto anime. Are the fillers worth watching?

Recently, I decided to revisit the whole Naruto anime. Back then I was watching some episodes here and there but was never fully invested. Then I just read the manga up until the end of Shippuden. Since then I’ve forgotten a lot about what happened. So far watching the anime has been fun and nostalgic, and I can’t wait for what’s next.

I’m currently in the arc where the 3rd Hokage is clashing with Orichimaru, and where Naruto is about to fight Gaara. I plan to go straight to ep 220 right after they finish the Sasuke retrieval arc to save time. Are the episodes in between worth watching?

Naruto Part 1 (Manga Canon Only)

  1. Land of Waves (ep. 1 – 19)

  2. Chunin Exams (ep. 20 – 25, 27 – 67)

  3. Konoha Crush (ep. 68 – 80)

  4. Search for Tsunade (ep. 81 – 100)

  5. Sasuke Recovery Mission (ep. 107 – 135)

You can continue Shippuden after ep. 135 of OG Naruto or you can skip to minute 12:00 on ep. 220 where Naruto will be under Jiraiya's guidance for 3 years after ep. 135

Episode 26 and 101 is fillers

There’s enough canon on its own. If you are finding you like it enough to watch all of it, then you can start thinking about fillers too

2 upvotes on reddit
PowderPills · 1 month ago

If it’s your first watch, you should watch the fillers. It’s long and annoying sometimes, but some fillers are great.

A lot of the people who complain about certain characters not getting enough screen time are some of the same who skip fillers. Regardless of whether it’s canon or not.

I low-key kinda have a "haha lil bastard" reaction to the boat arc... I forget but I remember thinking, "fuck man a war is happening or about to, and this hella long ass boat filler arc been going on so long it's starting to get hysterically funny. Coupled with at that time the eng dub was still being released, so a few episodes then months for the next few...

That and the cat arc with Sasuke were low-key such a different vibe it felt unique. Also the one with Lee and Gaara fking up the fake tails if that was filler...

Nah, they break the pacing of the story. It comes to a point when something big is going to happen, and a single line starts a filler saga of an unrelated past event for over +10 episodes, then they go back canon for 2 episodes, and then another +10 episodes filler saga of flashbacks starts. All of these in the middle of what is supposed to be a single fight.

Just watch Naruto episode 101, it's so funny.

Alright, well. My friend talked me into watching this Anime and Ive been convinced but I know that it has gained certain reputation due to its fillers, then, I found a lot of guides where you watch it skipping these episodes and almost all of them coincide. Now would you reccomend me watching the fillers any way or it isnt worth it?

Ive read on these guides that fillere in there take away some good escence from the series and makes it confusing and spoils yo some stuff.

How to watch Naruto without the filler episodes

Here are some key considerations for watching Naruto without filler episodes:

  1. Understand the Filler Content: The original Naruto series has a significant amount of filler episodes, especially in the first part. The filler episodes do not contribute to the main storyline.

  2. Use Filler Guides: There are several online guides that list which episodes are filler. Websites like Anime Filler List provide comprehensive episode guides for both Naruto and Naruto: Shippuden.

  3. Watch the Main Story Arcs: Focus on the episodes that are part of the main story arcs. For Naruto, the essential episodes are primarily from the manga source material.

  4. Consider Watching Only Naruto: Shippuden: If you want to skip most of the filler, you might consider starting directly with Naruto: Shippuden, which has fewer filler episodes compared to the original series.

Recommended Episode List:

  • Naruto (Original Series):

    • Start from Episode 1 to Episode 5
    • Skip Episodes 6-19 (filler)
    • Continue from Episode 20 to Episode 220 (with some filler episodes in between)
  • Naruto: Shippuden:

    • Start from Episode 1 to Episode 500 (with some filler episodes, but significantly fewer)

Recommendation: Use a filler episode guide to streamline your viewing experience. This way, you can enjoy the core story without the distractions of filler content. If you're looking for a more concise experience, consider watching the "Naruto: The Last" movie after finishing Shippuden for a satisfying conclusion.
