What Redditors are Saying

Naruto Shippuden Filler Episodes to Skip

TL;DR

  • Essential arcs to watch: Kakashi's backstory (episodes 349-361) and Itachi's backstory (episodes 451-458).
  • Most other fillers can be skipped without affecting the main storyline.

Filler Impact on Storyline

The consensus across discussions is that skipping filler episodes in "Naruto Shippuden" will not impact your understanding of the main storyline or character development. Fillers often do not contribute to the overarching narrative, and some even contradict the manga [2:1], [3:1]. Therefore, it's generally safe to skip them if you're focused on the main plot [4:2].

Recommended Filler Arcs

While most fillers can be skipped, there are a few arcs that fans recommend watching due to their quality and additional character insights. The Kakashi Anbu Arc (episodes 349-361) and the Itachi Shinden Arc (episodes 451-458) are frequently highlighted as worthwhile [1:2], [4:1]. These arcs delve deeper into the backstories of popular characters, providing context and depth that enrich the viewing experience [2:2].

General Viewing Advice

For those new to the series, it might be beneficial to skip fillers on the first watch to maintain pacing and focus on the main story [5:2]. However, if you find yourself enjoying the world and characters, revisiting fillers later could be an enjoyable way to extend your time with the series [5:1], [4:3].

Fun but Non-Essential Fillers

Some fillers are noted for being entertaining despite not contributing to the main plot. Examples include humorous episodes like the ninja ostrich and Mecha Naruto [4:4]. While these can be fun, they are not necessary for understanding the main storyline, so they can be watched at your discretion.

Conclusion

Ultimately, whether or not to watch fillers depends on your personal preference. If you're eager to follow the main storyline, using a filler guide to skip non-essential episodes is recommended. However, if you're in no rush and enjoy spending time in the Naruto universe, exploring some fillers could add to your enjoyment of the series.

And also if you suggest skipping fillers also do suggest which filler episode I should really skip that won't effect character development and storyline of the anime?

Yes its definatly worth it! Story and character development is amazing. And the characters are so cool and interesting. I suggest skip the fillers. But would reccomend Kakashi and Itachi backstory arcs in Shippuden.

can you suggest the episodes numbers I should really watch and the ones I should avoid? would appreciate that

Orochimaru27 · 6 months ago

Watch 119-120. 349-361. Covers Kakashi. Watch 451-558. Covers Itachi.

Use a filler list and skip every other filler. But some are cool and I suggest watch them after the show.

Its definitely worth it and you can skip the filler as it will not impact development of characters or plot. As top post mentioned the back stories of kakashi and itachi are worth it.

Another thing to note: Naruto is notorious for flashbacks and replaying the SAME ones to remind you of certain things during some present scene (it'll be like several minutes of flashback not a quick montage) and you can fast forward after you've seen the flashback before if you want.

I’m currently watching it, and haven’t skipped any filler. And to be honest, I think the filler is entirely worth watching if you have the time. If you really like the show, the filler is just more of it, and has some pretty interesting characters and battles. Of course, if you just want the story, then you can skip it without missing any vital information.

100% skip the filler. It will not feel fast paced lmao there are 700 episodes, about 500 of them being canon and some episodes drag. Pretty sure one specific fight is like 5-9 episodes even skipping filler

2 upvotes on reddit

Some of the fillers are pretty fun to watch. Like “gotta see gotta know, kakashi’s true face” is a really good one. I’d say just watch a little bit of the fillers and if you don’t like it skip em.

While the filler doesn’t add to the story and can be skipped I’d advise not skipping them. The filler can be fun and can help you grow to care about some characters more.

I skipped them all because there are no key events or characters in the fillers anyway. I find them boring for this very reason,

The filler really ruins the pacing of the series in my opinion and is best to skip.

They occasionally reference events that take place in filler, but it has absolutely no bearing on the overarching narrative or plot of the show.

Here is a list for Naruto.

Here is a list for Shippuden.

Are the Naruto fillers really safe to skip?

Posted by MrSaucyAlfredo · in r/Naruto · 7 months ago

I'm going through the series and intend to get to Shippuden when I'm done but Naruto Filler List | The Ultimate Anime Filler Guide states that there's basically almost 3 straight seasons of filler right at the end? Posts I've found online indicate it is all safe to skip with the exception of episode 220. I just wanna double check and be sure before committing, that skipping these won't leave any gaps for Shippuden? Like some power someone learned that comes back or an experience they flashback to or something from a purely filler episode?

Are they fun to watch? Some of them maybe. But it’s filler. It has nothing to tell storywise, nothing manga related. So yes, you are very save to skip them. But only the full filler episodes. There are some mixed canon/filler episodes.

I've watched through Naruto 4 times, including OG and Shipudden, I haven't seen a single episode from those last 3 seasons of OG Naruto lol.

Some of the filler in Shipudden you should definitely watch; the main two being Kakashi's backstory and Itachi's backstory.

I'm currently at episode 160 in the original Naruto and I'm getting really tired of the filler episodes, I want to skip to episode 220 and just start with Shippuden but there might be a filler arc that's worthwhile or somehow important. So are there any? Or if I'm sick of filler should I just skip to Shippuden?

Skip now. Go back to later, maybe you’ll find a gem but slogging through them on a first watch is not pleasant when you have so much story to get to.

At episode 160, you have 60 episodes to go. Would you rather watch 60 episodes of filler or 60 episodes of Shippuden?

Someone should just pin to the top of this group that its okay to skip narutos filler lol. So many newcomers to the series ask this question that it should just be outlined on the groups description or some shit. Some naruto filler is pretty good, but I personallt think a lot of it is better to watch after you finish the series to decompress a little bit.

Think about it. If you live in the world of Naruto and you are a shinobi, you obviously would have to go on assigned missions same as Naruto in the show. Skipping fillers is like skipping a part of their shinobi lives even if it is just filler to you. You're telling me you wouldn't do assigned missions if you were a shinobi in the Naruto world?

They’re awful, 100% don’t recommend. I watched everyone before I knew what “filler” was. It was not a good experience tbh. Skip to the last half of 220 and then on to Shippuden. It’ll save you a lot of time and you can engage with the much better canon content.

Naruto shippuden should I skip fillers?

So I just skipped episodes 57-71 of naruto shippuden and the filler guide says episode 72 is completely manga canon which can’t be true because naruto and sai are in hospital I’m guessing because of the filler mission which is kindve confusing me on what I should interpret as canon. If I decide to continue skipping filler will this type of thing continue to happen? Or should I just watch the fillers

Kakashi ANBU arc is filler. The Manga doesn’t expand on his experience in the ANBU besides protecting Kushina. In canon, Danzo never tried to assasinate Hiruzen

I’m currently revisiting the whole Naruto anime. Are the fillers worth watching?

Recently, I decided to revisit the whole Naruto anime. Back then I was watching some episodes here and there but was never fully invested. Then I just read the manga up until the end of Shippuden. Since then I’ve forgotten a lot about what happened. So far watching the anime has been fun and nostalgic, and I can’t wait for what’s next.

I’m currently in the arc where the 3rd Hokage is clashing with Orichimaru, and where Naruto is about to fight Gaara. I plan to go straight to ep 220 right after they finish the Sasuke retrieval arc to save time. Are the episodes in between worth watching?

Can I skip Naruto and Shippuden filler episodes? How about the movies? Can I skip them?

Posted by manny_0583 · in r/Naruto · 3 years ago

Yeah I know it might sound awful but I haven't watched Naruto and Shippuden yet. But I want to start it soon. I've heard that there are a lot of filler episodes in both Naruto and Shippuden. Can I skip them and watch the Canon episodes only? If no, then okay I'll watch all of them. But if yes, can you plz tell me which episodes are skippable? You know I don't mind watching fillers but there are some anime that had a big amount of filler(like Naruto) and were not great(not all anime, some of them) and I was thinking about watching Naruto but when I heard that apparently the fillers are skippable, I was like "okay I will just watch the Canon episodes".

Anyway, can I skip the fillers? And if yes please give me a guide on which episodes are skippable. For both Naruto and Shippuden. Thanks

Only Naruto the last movie is canon, you can skip the rest and as for fillers, you can skip everything except Episode 347-361, it maybe a filler but it perfectly tells story of Kakashi and Akatsuki.

AI Answer

🤖

Naruto Shippuden filler episodes to skip

Key Considerations for Skipping Filler Episodes in Naruto Shippuden:

  1. Filler Episode Count: Naruto Shippuden has a significant number of filler episodes, with around 43 out of 500 episodes being filler.

  2. Story Continuity: Filler episodes often do not contribute to the main storyline or character development, so skipping them can help maintain the narrative flow.

  3. Character Arcs: Some filler episodes may introduce characters or arcs that are not relevant to the main plot, making them less essential for understanding the series.

Recommended Filler Episodes to Skip:

  • Episodes 57-71: These episodes focus on the "Twelve Guardian Ninja" arc, which is entirely filler.
  • Episodes 90-112: The "Tale of Jiraiya the Gallant" arc has some important context but can be skipped if you're short on time.
  • Episodes 136-141: The "Infiltration" arc is mostly filler and can be skipped.
  • Episodes 143-152: The "Konoha History" arc is not essential to the main plot.
  • Episodes 170-171: These episodes are filler and do not impact the overall story.
  • Episodes 176-196: The "Taka" arc is mostly filler and can be skipped.
  • Episodes 223-242: This section contains a lot of filler, including the "Konoha's Tenketsu" arc.

Takeaway: If you're looking to streamline your viewing experience, consider skipping the episodes listed above. This will allow you to focus on the main storyline and character development without getting bogged down by filler content.
