TL;DR
Yes, Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world, single-player action role-playing game set in the 1800s wizarding world [1:1],
[2:1].
Game Structure and Exploration
Hogwarts Legacy offers a free-roam experience within Hogwarts and its surrounding areas. Players can explore iconic locations such as Hogsmeade, Diagon Alley, and the Forbidden Forest [5:2]. The game allows players to venture out of Hogwarts grounds and return, similar to other open-world games like Spider-Man (PS4) and Assassin's Creed
[5:5]. However, there might be barriers or level restrictions that prevent access to certain areas until specific skills or spells are mastered
[5:7].
World Design and Content
While the castle environment is detailed and immersive, some players have criticized the surrounding world for being repetitive and lacking depth [3:1],
[3:5]. Suggestions for improvement include focusing more on interactions within Hogwarts and reducing the number of quests in less developed areas
[3:1],
[3:6]. The game could benefit from a tighter focus on the immediate area around the castle, with more engaging content involving teachers and students
[3:1].
Potential for Sequels
There is speculation and excitement about potential sequels to Hogwarts Legacy. Fans suggest exploring different time periods or settings, such as other wizarding schools or historical events within the wizarding world [4:1],
[4:2]. The game's platform has been praised for its potential to support a series of games with new stories and adventures
[4:5].
Gameplay Mechanics
The game features a day/night cycle where players attend classes during the day to learn new spells and gain experience, and explore the grounds after school hours [5:9]. This structure provides opportunities for both structured learning and open exploration, enhancing the immersive experience of being a student at Hogwarts.
Overall, Hogwarts Legacy promises a rich open-world experience with opportunities for exploration, character development, and engagement with the magical world.

that is a lot of text to read and still learn nothing about the game.
It's not an adaptation of any books, films, or the play. It's an open-ended story with choices about being a student at Hogwarts in a pre-Voldemort world. It has 3 main mechanics, your skills in each grow with your progression in the game.
What else do you want from a FAQ?
Looking at the House things.. I really hope there's a quiz or something that you can take to determine your house / wand / patronus like on Pottermore. (maybe with an override afterwards like in Morrowind/Oblivion or Fallout 3)
As long as its done right. Pottermore was great because the questions were abstract a lot of the time. Rather than the awful : How do you proceed? 1) Courageously! 2) Wisely! 3) Friendly! 4) Like a complete git! Ambitiously!
Check out Wizardmore. You can take the full quizzes with every question pulled from Pottermore.
Take this quiz to find out which Hogwarts house you belong in:
Which animal do you like best?
Lion
Badger
Eagle
Serpent
Which colors are your favorites?
Scarlet and Gold
Yellow and Black
Blue and Bronze
Green and Silver
Are you?
Normal
Smart
Evil
A loser
"J.K. Rowling was not involved in the creation of the game. This is not a new story from J.K. Rowling."
I guess not
Will we see Dumbledore though, that's the real question. Because he was at the school in the late 1800s.
Yeah I'm going to wait until reviews, but almost everything I've seen so far is pretty much what everyone has been clamoring for in a Harry Potter video game. I'm really looking forward to it
Dunno why you're eating downvotes.
Transgirl here - JKR is a fucking bitch - Get the game preowned or pirate it if you don't want to throw a penny her way.
I do my best to focus on the actors that played the trio and the positive message they spread using their fame from the Harry Potter movies :)
Edit: Come on peeps - she literally just tweeted support for a company that sells this kinda shite.
I have wanted a game like this ever since I was a teenager o.o
Christ. I think I feel a Harry Potter binge coming.

didnt even try to answer the question
They didn't ask the most important question. Will there be toilets?
Wouldn't be a worthwhile Hogwarts story if there weren't any toilets imo.
I can't believe I'm this excited for something Harry Potter again. This isn't Deathly Hallows level but I'm also 14 years older than I was then.

Bully 1800, got it
I had the same thought, it sounds incredible
Want to be there day 1 but will wait on reviews.
That's wizard's chess!
wish there were ways to improve the open world section of Hogwarts cuz it felt like a Ubisoft section. If you had the chance, how would you create & improve the open world (slightly closed)?
10 hours in Hogwarts Legacy was my favorite but afterwards I felt bogged down by the quests.
Just finished the game. Don't have a lot of time to play, so my playthrough was broken into a couple hour sessions here and there. The castle environment is fantastic/magical. The remaining world is... repetitive, bland... purposeless? The forbidden forest "biome," is neat, but everything else on the map largely ran together. As I played through the game, it felt like every quest line follows a repeatable gameplay loop... Talk to person, ask three questions, go to place, discover cave, kill stuff in cave, turn in quest... Merlin trials, chests, landing zones, etc. didn't contribute much to the grind. I ended up 100%ing just because in small bursts of gameplay I had grabbed enough stuff I saw around me while playing, but I can't fathom doing it for hours and hours on-end back to back...
All this to say.. I think this game would have been better pursued as a really air-tight, more linear story line instead of an open-world concept. Some of the characters you meet in the castle are neat, but you don't spend enough time with them to care about any of them by the end. I found myself pretty bored with the main story and side quests.
I have to agree. Hogwarts castle is incredibly thought-out and developed, same with hogsmeade and the feel of the forbidden forest (though after level 25-30 the forbidden forest becomes pretty easy). Now, the hamlets surrounding Hogwarts it’s the same village over and over again, taken out from Skyrim. Where the MO is Talk, Merlín trial, go to cave, retrieve something, bring it back.
I think the solution would be a smaller fragmented map that let you travel in different regions of England or Europe so instead of exploring some bland fields you can explore Diagon alley or other schools

To be honest, i would have improved it by radically reducing it and putting way more limits on what the main character would be allowed to do. Things like " don't get recognized as a child or off to the school you are" which would make things more difficult and also do a bit of storytelling. Also, a reduced enemy count. I just can't walk and enjoy the landscape because they are everywhere and super boring.
I like the world but the content in it is rather bland. It would've been better to have a smaller map with a tighter focus on the immediate area around the castle. I would gladly trade away all the quests in the hamlets to have more quests in Hogwarts with the teachers and students - in particular I think the teachers are great characters that are barely utilized. Once you talk to them the first time, you already know everything about them, and you do literally one lesson. In the books Harry is around the teachers all the time, he hangs out with Hagrid, gets detention from Snape, has extra lessons with Lupin, etc.
Tldr I wish this game was "horizontally" smaller and "vertically" taller.
I know (not for but at least rumored) that there is a second Hogwarts legacy coming and I just need to talk about my thoughts. I feel like this game can easily follow games series like assassin creed where is the same principle but new story. Like this one was the 1890s. We could have one focusing on the Triwizards Cup in some time period. We could have the first group of students at Hogwarts discovering the secrets the school has. Students during the first wizarding war. Idk I just have been getting a lot of videos on Hogwarts legacy and it’s all my brain can thinking about and I needed a place to dump it. Wondering what other people would like Hogwarts legacy 2 and maybe other ones to focus on.
There will 100% be a sequel, the game was a massive critical and financial success. I think the 1980's would be a cool time but I'm just happy there will be a sequel. A different wizarding school would be a nice change too. Hogwarts is cool, but there's wizarding schools the world over and it would be fun to explore a totally new setting.
Up voting for the other Wizarding schools, not the 80s suggestion, since HP was set in the 90s, and there are SO MANY OTHER TIME PERIODS that would be more interesting than modern day.
Based on the time frame of part 1 and then the time frame of the beasts movies I would like to see you main character from legacy go on to help the British government in a secret alliance department to help win world war 2 fighting dark wizards working for hitlers occult department. Trying to stop them from gaining the upper hand for Germany by gaining occult artifacts. It’s like Indiana jones meets wizarding world. It’s got every thing I mean using spells to fight nazis with machine guns instead of poachers with spells.
The platform is incredible. I love it so much more than any other virtual world I've played in.
Idk why I thought the sequel was confirmed.. now I’m sad
I would love an Auror-themed detective like one. Which is kind of what Hogwarts Legacy leaned toward anyway lol. And I kind of feel like the theme would have to be different because we've already experienced Hogwarts Castle, it'll get old after a while. It's the problem Tears of the Kingdom had to deal with since it was set in exactly the same land as the first game. But it also wouldn't make sense for Hogwarts Legacy to be the only game with the castle... I think they can make it work without being repetitive somehow. Goodness knows I grew up with several versions of the castle playing the original game series based on the movies.
I’ve only played a few minutes of botw. I’m curious, how did totk deal with that? If you have a moment, I’d love to hear about it!
Totk used the same map, but added caves. So you go into caves and there's new content. The surface also has some minor differences, monster camps in places they weren't before, a new village, but generally it's the same with minor tweaks. They also introduced floating sky islands, and...well, I wouldn't want to spoil it for you. I'd highly recommend playing both games as they're phenomenal. Totk's story is amazing but doesn't work well in an open world environment, and botw is pure masterpiece.
I’d love this
Obviously there will be a free-roam hogwarts. But how far off the hogwarts grounds do you think we’ll be able to go? I wonder if you are just in hogwarts for the first part of the game and then when you ‘graduate’ you go out to explore. Or do you think it’s a ‘venture out of the grounds and keep returning’ sort of deal?
I think we will be able to go to the forbidden forest ,I hope at least
Places like Hogsmeade, Diagon Alley and the forbidden forest will be in the game, there might also be more.
If you go onto the official website it tells you there it's a massive single player open world rpg and yes you can go to the forbidden forest
The blog post mentioned it plus centaurs...and I bet that's where we'll find most of the fantastic beasts and the ingredients for potions.
I've wondered about this myself. I think the easiest explanation is level walls, like you could go to the end of the map, but a dementor will suck out your soul because you haven't mastered the patronus charm yet.
Invisible walls or high grounds you can't climb are more likely as the trailer shows a patronus being cast that pretty much means that you WILL master it, its a cool idea though.
Hey, where does the trailer show the patronus charm?
If you go onto the official website you'll find out there it's going to be a massive open world rpg
No doubt, but it will have some sort of barriers at some point.
I've been going off the assumption that once we visit or unlock an area, we have free reign to explore it, similar to Spider-Man (PS4), Assassin's Creed Games, The Witcher 3, etc.
At least that's what I'm hoping for, but I'm a person who loves to 100% open world games so.....
I’m hoping for a long day/night cycle. During the day, you have classes/exams that act as side quests that teach you new spells, provide experience to level up, allow you to discover new areas in the castle, provide you with new potions/abilities/gear/etc. Then once the “school day” is over, you can explore the grounds a bit more, sneak off the school grounds (and get punished and/or find over-leveled enemies if you stray too far) and whatnot. After dark, it’s considered to be after curfew, and you can sneak around the castle/surrounding areas to discover new secrets or get a different set of side quests. And if you get caught, you get detentions or other meaningful penalties.
As others said most likely you will be ABLE to get there but most likely wont last long. Or you might need certain spells in some places or certain items that you dont get til later.
I usually enjoy linear games more than open-world experiences. However, if a game has a strong story, I don’t mind doing side quests—as long as they’re meaningful. For example, while I enjoyed Ghost of Tsushima, I found that many of the side quests and boss fights felt repetitive but the game play was so nice that I didn't mind. (like the Ronin fights and similar enemy camps).
If I decide to play Hogwarts Legacy and complete all the side quests, will I get a satisfying and varied experience, or will I just play it for an hour and set it aside for ever. Is the narrative engaging enough for someone who generally prefers a more focused, linear style?
I bought this game for 2.7K in some sale a year back, and I always quit it around couple hours mark. And I am a huge Harry Potter fan...
If you’re a harry potter fan and like fighting with spells like in the movies you’ll like it
I'm a harry potter fan but I've also played the psp, ps2 era games and they were meh to say the least and I don't know if this will feel any different.
Vastly different from the Movie games. Absolute steal at that price imo
I played it around 9 hrs ~50% but then got bored of it
Exactly the same view! I tried to play it twice. Got bored. Its has too many side stories, too big of a map. I got crazy moving here and there 😄
Did you try a refund?
I don't think you can get a refund once you purchase a game digitally? Also I am planning it through ps plus so 🤠
there are people who found the story engaging, and others a slog. There's no way to know if you would like it or not without trying it for yourself unfortunately.
The best thing to do is just watch a review from someone like skillup or acg.
If you have a disc version of PS5, buying a disc for cheap is the way to go. That way you at least get to sell and cash back some value. I regret buying it digitally
Ps + me hai yeh free me . Don't buy this. The fight scene is meh not much better
Waiting for black friday.
I loved being able to explore Hogwarts and its surroundings! I absolutely love RPG games like this and having a Harry Potter themes RPG has been a dream come true! Although while playing the game I noticed there are a lot of things that should’ve been added that weren’t! Of course when they revealed that there would be no Online Multiplayer, it was a literal let-down, but of course this did not stop me from buying it!
The thing that I really didn’t like more than the absence of multiplayer was the disappointing fact that we start our adventure at Hogwarts in our 5th year! I know to some that this isn’t a really big deal, but as a die hard Harry Potter fan it didn’t sit right with me. I feel like we were robbed of receiving our acceptance letter! Not only that I always thought we’d be able to choose our character’s blood status, Muggle-Born, Half Blood, or Pure-Blood. I wanted to run through Diagon Alley and go from store to store checking off my supply list before heading off to platform 9/3 quarters!
The other thing I found ridiculous is that we only learn a total of 34 spells out of the 80 mentioned in the books! I was honestly hoping to learn more, but that didn’t surprise me seeing as we started in our 5th year! Hopefully that little issue can be corrected for Legacy II!
There were also a total of only 13 magical creatures out of 85, which I understand the reasoning being that not all magical creatures live in the UK, but across the world. It would’ve been nice to see werewolves, basilisks, manticores, different breeds of dragon, etc. I hope they add more in the next game!
Overall I just hope they start fresh and allow us to start in our 1st year, and add DLC for every year at Hogwarts until we graduate! I doubt this will happen, because of the news being that the second game will be a prequel! Anyways, what do you guys think should be in the next game and do you agree it should be a new character? Or one we could import from Hogwarts Legacy 1, like they do at Bioware?
If there is a next game, I hope they scale things down with the story. We don’t need a huge fantasy narrative, lower the stakes to something a little smaller please. I think there was an enormous disconnect in the narrative between the wonder of being a new student and the high stakes dramatic narrative where we kill countless people.
Let us have more of a student life- things like levelling up spells through attending classes and a proper social system would do wonders to make this world feel more alive. Maybe a dating mechanic would be cute, where your character can ask someone out to attend a ball or something. Or perhaps a gifting system like the one in stardew valley would already add a lot.
Now for the main story: please, focus more on Hogwarts itself. We don’t need the expansive yet empty Highlands. As beautiful as the scenery is, it doesn’t add anything meaningful to the game. I’d also like a story that is a little less epic and something with more personal stakes. Hogwarts itself is already magical enough, we don’t need a cataclysmic event and the player character to be a chosen one for a great story. The Harry Potter books were all Mysteries at their core, it would be great to see that genre be utilised for the next game.
Please overhaul the loot and crafting system. Rescuing and breeding beasts in the room of requirement feels wrong. It makes me feel like a poacher in denial, especially with the fact that you can sell beasts. It’s a stupid mechanic, and the loom is absolutely tedious. Just an over engineered mess. I do like the room of requirement, but the beasts need to go.
The last point is perhaps the most difficult to realise, but I want more meaningful choices and stories that don’t feel like they were lost in development. Sebastian’s quest is narratively so unfinished it’s ridiculous, and it’s the quest where you feel a lack of choices and consequences the most. I have a similar sentiment for the main quest, where they could have used the narrative to meaningfully explore things like the generational oppression of the goblins and the moral dilemma of Ranrok doing the wrong thing for the right reasons instead of making him into the comically evil villain he is in the game. The witcher 2 could do it over a decade ago. I want a more graceful narrative and choices that actually matter.
I lied about the previous point being my last, I hope the next game doesn’t have a voiced protagonist, or only a voice for quips and comments like in bg3. It would cut down immensely on voice acting costs and allow for other characters to have more dialogue.
All of this. I hate how big the map is. It kept us out of hogwarts too much, and we really could have gotten by with 2 or 3 hamlets in addition to hogsmeade and the forbidden forest. Quality npc experiences in these locations over traveling to random monster dens and hamlets that you mostly don’t have a main story related reason to see. I just finished the main story and still have 1-2 hamlets that I just didn’t get around to visiting.
I thought the ancient magic would be an opportunity to solve a mystery. It just turned into portraits of long gone wizards telling us what to do/believe while we didn’t have any real agency over what to do with the magic now.
I want them to make a slice of life Harry Potter game. Just doing quests for students around hogwarts, going to classes, that sort of thing.
This! Honestly I would love it to be like Bully but Hogwarts Edition, that literally would be the perfect game to me
NPC interaction is non existent. You feel like a ghost running around in Hogwarts in late game. So better npc interactions, companions, more hidden rooms and more activities to do in Hogwarts, and hogsmead, the world should feel immersive. Also quidditch, I really feel the lack of it
This is one of countless reasons why I found this game so insultingly shallow. I feel like a spectre walking the corridors of the castle & I hate how nothing we do matters & no one react s to us.
Their should be activities, mini games like the older HP games. We should be able to take companions with us out with their own questlines, that is not an impossible ask as many like to claim.
Explore more of hogwarts. More hair style options, and I would like to experience sleeping in my dorm with the other students.
Period London, or an explorable chunk of it. Floo powder link to the ministry of magic. A story that brings in the wider world.
Most certainly more hairstyles, we were completely limited when it came to that! And i would’ve loved to see the dorms too! Maybe even be able to customize your bed and dorm. I was hoping they added a dating system to the game, one that’s better than Hogwarts Mystery! Wish they would’ve given us more friends too!
Fun fact, the original premise of Hogwarts Legacy was most of all that's been talked about in this thread. From the companions and pets, to a breathing open world and even the morality system. Eventually, much of it was caught up on covid issues and the game got absolutely gutted, even the morality system which was the very basis of the game, as it would allow you to actually become a dark wizard.
So, due to many reasons from deadlines to budget and more, we got a game where it's main points feel lacking and empty. The storyline feels rushed and the ending is meaningless, you only choose the ending on the last 4 options and it breaks immersion so badly. The endings are very VERY cheap and the world is actually breathing, yes, but not with you in it. That's for sure. As soon as the main quest is gone you dissappear. The events don't even shape the world or change much of anything. Plus you'd think a rebellion of a whole species would involve much more than 6 professores and 4 paintings.
The morality system actually even allowed you to land yourself in Azkaban, were you to use the dark arts or just overall have a bad reputation. You can see it's foundations on the side quests where you clearly have good, neutral and bad choices, but the only real impact they have is on your money and your own human conscience (I'm looking at you Peanut kidnappers). As for the companion system, you can still see some hints of it's existence while you're out and about. The main character will occasionally blurt something like "Trouble brewing and I'm without the presence of friends?" which are the lines the Mc would play when you chose to go solo.
Edit: I forgot to mention another thing, I WAS ROBBED OF THE MAGICAL GRAND STAIRCASE OF THE ROTATING STAIRS!!!
It’s crazy to think that there could have been a game where you are able to become a dark wizard. It would have truly been THE Harry Potter game. I’ll never understand rushing a game and putting out a half finished product rather than delaying until it’s perfected. Even more so, I don’t understand why they are making a sequel rather than releasing DLCs and updates that would build on the foundation of the first and actually complete what they’ve already started. The foundation is there, and it’s beautiful. Why not build on what’s already laid down?
Did you miss those few poachers roaming around hogwarts?
I love the movies, haven't read the books yet and I also loooove the universe like really love Hogwarts, is it worth it for me and how cool is the exploration in the game not js in Hogwarts but like as a whole.
No. And I don't think anyone in a Hogwarts legacy sub would recommend getting this game called Hogwarts legacy.
Definitely not. We all hate it here. Thats why joined the sub—to talk about how unenjoyable the game is.
How has this comment got more upvotes than the actual post it is on??? 🤣
Honestly it’s really good! It’s interesting to be able to explore the castle and things that weren’t as detailed in the movies. It’s fun hearing conversations happening around you. There’s a lot of different Hamlet’s to explore and townspeople to talk to as well. Going to hogsmeade is also a really cool experience too. I’d say the exploration is what makes most of the game worth it for me, I could walk/fly around for hours (and have)
Same. I hardly progressed in the story at all for the first few hours because I was just drinking in exploring Hogwarts.
If you love hogwarts and the universe then I’d definitely suggest getting it, honestly when i played it for the first time i was just there in wonder thinking holy shit i’m going to hogwarts. I felt like a little kid watching the movies for the first time again.
Same! I loved the game for the first 20h, exploring every inch of the castle. But the story was very repetitive and boring for me, so I stopped playing. But yes, those first 20h were so worth it. I would just sit around in the Slytherin common room, waiting to see the whatever swims by the window.
I really liked it, unfortunately mine started lagging really bad and haven’t gotten back to it. Did everything you’d think to do, it didn’t help so I just haven’t been able to go back
If you haven’t played the story you haven’t played the game. You don’t even have all the spells. Play it before you make judgment. Replay-ability depends on how big of a fan you are but the game as a whole for a fan is amazing. Do I wish there was an actual good/evil and night/day (curfew) system? Absolutely. But other than that it’s everything I could’ve wanted in a first attempt at an open world HP game. The first day it came out I stayed up until 7 am playing and I had work at 10 LMAO. And I’ve replayed once, currently on my second replay and I realised I hadn’t done everything whatsoever.
Hogwarts legacy feels like a warm hug to all fans of the franchise, even if you are not a gamer you'll like it.
I cannot stress enough how miserable I've been at work lately because all I wanna do is run home and play this game. Great replay value, music to vibe to, things to explore and if you've watched the movies, you'll appreciate the easter eggs.
This is the first time I've ever posted on Reddit so I hope I'm doing this right. I love Hogwarts legacy, but I've finished the main quest and I notice that the world design is sort of empty? Sure, there's castles scattered about and some forests and things but besides the towns there's not much. I'm a bit disappointed especially considering the cost of the game. Same with the castle, I find that the rooms are pretty bleak, not much is going on. I also wish they had added an actual grand entrance for all the visitors to arrive. The castle is set up in a strange way on the inside as well.
It feels empty because it is empty. "Mile wide but an inch deep." has been used to describe Skyrim but I honestly think it's more applicable to Hogwarts Legacy.
In Skyrim, almost each location is telling its own story. You will find random skeleton of mammoth and inside that skeleton a skeleton of human being, pretty much telling its own story. Or again mammoth being pinned to the ice with Dwemer ballista arrows, meaning it was there for centuries, because Dwemer disappeared a long time ago.
Or you can find stuff like the only book in the entire game about daedras in rorikstead - a place that is small but still its fertile soil is sufficient enough for entire hold. And if you care about the dialogues, you can find out that they possibly are worshipping some daedra in order to have prosperous soil.
All of this and much more, all stuff that you won’t be told directly, but it’s there and you can find it on your own or completely missed it.
They say Skyrim is big as a sea and shallow as a pound, but it’s those little details that makes the world rich and somewhat immersive.
And then in comparison HL, where the world is beautiful and I’d totally love to just have a hike throughout the entire map, but when you encounter all sorts of abandoned buildings and ruins, that’s just what it is - abandoned ruin. No backstory, nothing extra added to it, unless it’s tied to a quest.
Considering that it’s their first game, I won’t be harsh, but hopefully by the sequel they will create better world, not just big and open and filled with Merlin’s trials or Treasures vaults, but filled with stories. Places that tells their own stories, npcs that are talking about more than just how they cheated during their Hogwarts day.
The thing to do is to enjoy side quests, magical hotspots, other challenges in between the main quest so that you are pretty much done by the time you reach the end of the main quests and then level 34. Then the game is done. It’s not meant to go on forever unless you want to do more play throughs! The battle arenas are fun after endgame, though. I wish it really was meant to go on, maybe with randomized encounters, etc. but it’s not. On my last play through I did mods and that was fun. There are a couple of other quests in the mods as well as some features that let you interact with other people and sit at tables, etc..
I try to find all the interesting tidbits and details people mention in this sub such as the house elf grave, the doctor who died of dragon pox, the lumos werewolf room, the dragon, the giant squid, the bells you can play and that's just what I've found interesting
Honestly, I thought the world was too crowded..
I can hear poachers, in nearby camps, talking when I'm standing within the villages.. Those should be miles away with wildness in between.
Did you expect no empty space? I don't understand what you were hoping for. As it stands, you'll frequently find poachers fighting with spiders or whatnot from lairs near their encampments.
I do agree that the castle layout is bizarre.. Enormous hallways and staircases just leading to other hallways and staircases.. Maybe those were needed to accommodate all the secret rooms that every previous staff member has apparently left behind in the castle.
I think so too! The world is filled with copy-pasted activities (Merlin Trials, Bandit Camps, Treasure Vaults), which feel like filler after a while rather than meaningful exploration. Hamlets and Hogsmeade are beautiful but often feel like movie sets, pretty but static and underutilized. The castle is large and visually stunning, but its interactivity is limited. Many rooms serve no purpose, and the student/school life loop is underdeveloped. Many characters outside of the main quests feel lifeless ans like background props rather than inhabitants. Outside of quests, your friendships are nonexistent and dialogue options hardly matter.
The world looks alive but often doesn’t feel alive.
Agreed, copy pasted is the perfect way to describe it.
Does anyone have an idea of HOW open world it will get?
Hogwarts and surrounding areas (Forbidden Forest, caves, pathways to Hogsmeade with different beasts.) Hogsmeade. North of the castle (the shot where flying the hippogriff) which will also lead to Azkaban and ruins.
I imagine there will be 3 regions that are separated into different maps. Hogwarts and the forbidden forest will most likely be one map, hogsmede and the surrounding areas will probably be another and then diagon ally and maybe a small bit of London will be the third. For all I know their could be a fourth region but I don’t think you’ll be able to walk seemlessly from one to the other. There will be natural boundaries probably blocking the way and you’ll have to use a mode of transport like the Hogwarts express to travel there.
Not sure on the train though it’d be cool but maybe portkeys, floo powder or apparition
I think at the beginning of the game you’ll travel by train, as that’s pretty much the only way of getting to Hogwarts. There will most likely be a mini mission on the train where you can interact with other students and begin forming relationships. Anytime after that if we were to get the train again I think it’d just consist of a cinematic of the train setting off then a loading screen then another cinematic of the train arriving.
Agree; also if there are areas that are linked to the story then you would be able to travel there for that section (eg in Harry's time, they flew to the Ministry, or went with Dumbledore to the cave). You could easily have it as being apparition outside of Hogwarts Grounds
I think more like 5 or 6
What do you mean by 3?
In between 2 and 4
