TL;DR Leah loves Goat Cheese, Truffles, Salad, and Wine. Driftwood is a liked gift and easy to find early in the game.
Loved Gifts
Leah has several loved gifts that players can give her to quickly increase friendship levels. These include Goat Cheese, Truffles, Salad, and Wine [3:1]
[5:4]. These items are highly effective for building rapport with Leah, especially if you're aiming to marry her or just want to maximize your friendship points efficiently.
Liked Gifts
Driftwood is a commonly mentioned liked gift for Leah. It's easily obtainable as fishing trash, making it a convenient option for players who are just starting out or are low on resources [1:3]
[5:1]. While it doesn't yield as many friendship points as loved gifts, it's still a viable option for maintaining a steady relationship with her.
Easy Gift Strategies
For players looking for simple strategies, purchasing a salad from Gus at the saloon is an easy way to acquire one of Leah's loved gifts [5:3]. This method is particularly useful for those who may not have access to farming or crafting the other loved items yet. Additionally, salmonberries are another easy-to-find item that Leah likes
[2:1].
Gift-Giving Tips
While maximizing friendship points through loved gifts is efficient, some players prefer using universally liked items such as fruits or flowers, which can be foraged and are generally well-received by most villagers [2:4]
[2:6]. This approach allows players to maintain relationships with multiple characters without focusing solely on their specific preferences.
By understanding Leah's favorite gifts and utilizing these strategies, players can effectively manage their relationships in Stardew Valley and enjoy the benefits of increased friendship levels.
When I first started playing, I found it frustrating to raise friendship levels with villagers, as I would often miss the season to grow their favourite gift, or waste a lot of time and money on a less efficient strategy to make friends. This guide is for those who wish to max out hearts with the entire town for the least effort and plan ahead to have the best gifts ready to go.
Edit: It is possible to find liked gifts much more easily for most villagers, which might get them to max hearts earlier in game time. However, using loved gifts will halve the amount of effort required, which is the purpose of this guide; to max out the entire town the most efficiently. The one exception I sometimes make is Kent, whose favourite recipes don't appear until after his birthday.

This guide contains 3 sections:
1. A chronological guide to making friends
Spring Year 1
Summer Year 1
Fall Year 1
Winter Year 1
Spring Year 2
Summer Year 2
Fall Year 2
Any time
2. General tips for making friends
Use birthdays!
Giving someone a loved gift on their birthday will give you 2 hearts with them. Even a liked gift will give an entire heart. It helps to have the calendar for the current season open in google, or buy a calendar from Pierre so you can see who is coming up and find them the best possible gift.
Use the bulletin board reward
Completing the bulletin board bundles at the community centre will give you bonus friendship points with the villagers other than the marriage candidates. You need to meet Kent (Spring 1 in year 2) before completing this bundle if you wish this reward to raise his friendship level.
Consider waiting for complete number of items for a person before giving first gift
If you start giving someone gifts and then run out of gifts, their friendship points will decay very gradually over time. I try to have enough loved gifts for the person before I start giving them gifts to avoid this. Once at full hearts, there is no more decay.
Speak when delivering
Every day you don’t speak to someone your friendship decays slightly. For achieving friendship in the least number of days, you would need to find them every single day to speak. More efficient use of your time is to just make sure you speak to them when you deliver their gifts.
Organising
I have two boxes for gifting. One box contains my collection of loved gifts, and the other is where I put the gifts for the people I am currently working on. Each Sunday I open up the second box and just take one of each gift and go searching.
If you have trouble finding someone, open up their wiki page and check under the current season for their schedule. NB. The Wiki is not always accurate for locations of characters, but the vast majority of it is, especially if you check the deviation options lower down.
Pam - parsnip (cheap spring crop)
Haley** - sunflowers (summer and fall crop that provides its own repeat seed)
Lewis - hot pepper (recurring summer crop)
Vincent - grape (summer foraging and recurring fall crop)
Shane - hot pepper (recurring summer crop)
Gus - oranges (summer fruit)
Sandy - sweet peas (summer foraging) or crocuses (winter foraging)
George - leeks (spring foraging)
Penny - melon (summer crop)
Linus - yam (fall crop)
Willy - pumpkin (fall crop)
Robin - peach (summer fruit) or goat's cheese
Wizard - solar or void essence (dropped by monsters in the deeper levels)
Clint - topaz or various other gemstones. Topaz is the least valuable option.
Dwarf - topaz (see Clint)
Emily** - topaz (see Clint) or wool if you have a sheep/rabbit.
Abigail** - pumpkin (fall crop)
Maru** - strawberries: recurring spring crop, seeds cannot be obtained until half way through spring and you have to remember to save enough money for the Egg Festival.
Demetrius - strawberries (see Maru)
Elliot** - pomegranate (fall fruit)
Sebastian** - frozen tear OR sashimi (once you have a kitchen)
Sandy - sweet pea (summer foraging), daffodil (spring foraging) or crocus (winter foraging)
Krobus - horseradish (if you find enough during spring foraging) OR pumpkin (fall crop)
Jas - Plum Pudding (cooking - recipe 7 winter year 1), Pink cake (cooking - recipe summer 21). or fairy roses*
Jodi - Pancakes or Chocolate cake (cooking - recipe winter 14)
Evelyn - Chocolate cake (cooking - recipe winter 14) or beets.
Sam - Maple bar (cooking - recipe summer 14) or cactus fruit.
Marnie - Farmer’s lunch (farming level 3) or Pink cake (cooking - recipe summer 21)
Harvey - Wine (requires keg and fruit) or coffee (kegs plus coffee beans, or buy from Gus)
Leah - Truffles (requires pig) or wine (requires keg and fruit)
Caroline - Summer spangle (summer crop)* or green tea (harvest from her room or make your own tea saplings).
Pierre - Loves ONLY fried calamari, which requires catching a squid which has a high challenge rating for fishing and can only be caught after 6pm in winter. To catch them you’ll need an iridium fishing rod and several trap bobbers. Start fishing in the ocean at 6pm and go as late as you can. Also you need oil and the recipe (received in the mail after you have 3 hearts with Jodi).
Alex - Salmon dinner: I found this the slightly easier option as it requires less ingredients, but those ingredients all come from 3 different sources and seasons. Plan ahead if you want to do this.
Complete Breakfast - this uses up a lot of resources, but might be easier especially if you have a lot of cows and chickens.
* Evelyn, Caroline and Jas all love specific flowers, however these are annoying gifts to store as flowers do not stack unless they share both colour and quality, so you can fill up half a box trying to store them.
** The marriage candidates can be difficult to access at first because they hide in their bedroom/house. Once you get to 2 hearts (4 loved gifts) with them, you can walk right into their room. Generally it's easier to get to them once you have 2 hearts, which you can get in one shot by giving them a loved birthday gift. However, this can backfire if it rains on their birthday and they don't leave their room all day (can easily happen with Elliot).
This may be helpful for someone, or maybe not. Evelyn loves Tulips which is way easier than either of those options and Leah is pretty fond of driftwood, which is literally fishing trash.
Tulips are easier to grow but not easier to store, as I explained at the * near the bottom.
I have edited to explain that this is a guide to loved gifts and the most efficient way to raise hearts. It is possible to find liked gifts more easily for most of the town if your aim is to get their earlier in your playthrough, however this will take you more actual time.
Do you mean loved or liked gift? Because I think OP is talking about loved gifts, and I don't think driftwood is a loved gift for Leah.
Leah likes Driftwood, but since it is fishing trash it’s much easier to acquire early on until you can get a pig or make wine.
this is the BEST gift guide I've come across. Been using it since I started the game last year, and still using it to quickly raise friendship levels in every new world. Thank you!
There are so many inaccuracies. It's no wonder with the post so long, but it still drives me bonkers. Especially if you try to make this look like a guide instead of using wiki.
You don't need to wait with gifting items until you have enough to max the person in one go. The friendship decay is not as dramatic as you make it to be and if you speak with a person daily it's even stopped completely. Talking with everyone just few times a week, just when you walk nearby of them, won't have any significant effect on your friendship level with them. Hell, just gifting everyone their loved gift for birthday once a year is enough to build a friendship, albeit a little bit slow if you don't interact with them for the rest of the year.
Speaking of such, birthday gift does and does not count towards 2 gifts/week limit. If you gift said person 0 or 1 gift said week, it will eat up one gift slot. But you don't have to stress out if you already gifted 2 gifts that week already, you can always give birthday gift, even though it will be 3rd gift that week.
Finishing community center bundle has no effect on your friendship with datable villagers, only non-datable. I don't think it affects Dwarf and I'm not sure about Krobus and Sandy, since they are technically not villagers. It definitely works for Kent though, if you already know him (spoke with him at least once).
Planting strawberries is actually profitable from the first planting, just make sure to save enough strawberries to throw them into seed maker so you can plant them on the 1st Spring next year to maximize their potential. Especially if you want to save few for gifting and not just for achievements and profit, it's better to plant them immediately.
It's possible that there is more, but I will admit I didn't finish reading it. This is just few points that jumped to me while skimming your guide.
Aside from the issue with the birthday gifts (I wrote this a while ago when this was true, edited) I don't actually see the inaccuracies you're talking about? You're just repeating the things I said in the post but with different wording......
Congratulations on editing. I'm honestly glad that the next person who will read your guide will get more accurate info. I didn't think that your post was bad per se, I just didn't like those few misleading parts. Since guides like this are targeted towards new players, who may not know to double check certain info with wiki and can easily get stressed with ie not gifting anything at all in the fear of losing all those hard earned friendship points again.
I definitely didn't think that you did it on purpose, and most of my knowledge comes from wiki which doesn't have to be 100% accurate, so I was open to the debate of which of us is right about how this game mechanic works. And I can see that you edited your post now. And not only the birthday gift part, like your comment would suggest. So no desire to debate or defend your opinions on the matter I guess. No biggie, like I said, as long as my comment lead to the guide being improved, I can happily go along my day again.
Under summer 1 you say grow a small number of summer spangle for Caroline “(just enough to unlock”
But unlock what?
Oops sorry. It's meant to say "unlock access to green tea leaves"
Thanks for the guide!
I was wondering what your strategies are for getting each character's easiest gifts? for example, I always bond with Pam and Shane very early because they are always at the saloon and I can just get them beer.
Cheeeeeese!
The kids and Sebastian don’t like it, but everyone else does. Robin and Leah love goat cheese and no one complains about regular cheese. I make tons of the stuff just from daily milking of the cows so I have plenty to spare.
I use it for gifts, I use it to heal in the dungeons, cheese is my duct tape!
I don't even sell cheese in my main game! I just have an ever growing stack of gold star cheese that always stays in my inventory.
That and whatever flowers I find walking through town.
Everyone likes fruit, so I just run through the village twice a week handing out fruit and then buy beer for everyone at the saloon at the end of the day to catch anyone I missed.
Foraged flowers and berries are my most commonly gifted things on my first year, almost everyone likes them and they're not worth a lot of money. Food and drinks in the saloon are way too expensive to gift lol when you are still developing your farm, I never do that.
But I prefer to gain friendship points by doing Help Wanted quests, why spend money and gain friendship points when I could earn money and gain friendship points?
Foraged flowers, eggs, coffee once you have a lot of it, most of the adult villagers like these things.
Leah and flowers. She also likes salmon berries so super easy.
For me, it’s Leah. I love her diet lol. Second would be Shane (on a “bad” but good night out, you know?)
I thought it made orange juice, too! I was trying to find townies' likes and dislikes intuitively and thought "okay, Vincent is a kid. Kids love orange juice!" and put the oranges in the keg... I was disappointed lol
Gus loves oranges too! which can be nice if you get one from the cave for his birthday.
Jodi. I love how it’s all food and then diamonds!
Same! Cook for me and buy me sparkly things!!!
She's so cute 🥹
Robin. I like cheese, I like peaches, I like spaghetti, and I like to read.
Still miffed a about apples not making cider
Harvey my man got me covered, coffee and wine for the win. Honourable mention for Pam ofc
Pickles, too, for me.
I dehydrate them since I have a metric ton of ancient fruit to make into wine lol
Shane for sure. Booze, spicy food, and pizza? Hell yeah.
Saaame. Thought I’d be more bougie and relate to Leah (goat cheese, truffles, and wine) but honestly I’d be happier with beer and spicy food.
Elliott gives me a bottle of wine every New Year’s Eve and I always keep it to be sentimental. Conversely, Sebastian’s New Year’s beer goes right in the shipping bin 😅
Leah also gives wine for NYE!
Shane sends me stolen Joja food in the mail constantly but Elliott only gives me morning coffees and a wine every NYE.
Joja has been closed for 2 years now and Shane has apparently stolen and hoarded the entire pizza section of their defunct frozen food aisle just to feed me every few weeks out of what I can only assume is a deep, deep hatred of Elliot and an underhanded attempt to break up my marriage.
I need to start doing this because I have a bad habit of just giving her gifts right back to her bc she gives you stuff she likes 😆 it’s a fierce strategy on her part
Yep! Those are the only ones I know of, the other person I’ve married is Alex and he doesn’t give you a New Year gift.
Shane gives you pizza and pepper poppers. And occasionally an egg. I usually eat them when I go into the mines.
Leah is BAEah
Maru gives me batteries, something actually useful
Tell us you're married to Leah without telling us you're married to Leah.
I tried romancing Abigail in the current save but I just couldn't do this to my wife
Yup, I marry Shane... "Thanks for the Pepper Poppers / Pizza! Why don't you keep it safe for me."
This is me. Even if I'm trying to romance someone else, Haley always ends up having the most hearts so I'm just like hmm well it's way easier to just marry her again.... I can't resist my personal growth girlie 😭
Wine, goat cheese, a salad. Lots of options!
It’s my first time playing and it’s the first year so what’s the easiest and I’m trying to marry her so
Buy a salad from Gus
Drift wood
If you're really skint, she 'likes' driftwood. Find her a random hunk of it from pond fishing if you can't afford a salad.
A little late but I’ve been meaning to post in here what my husband gave me for Mother’s Day this year! We just started playing stardew valley together earlier this year 🩷 for “my greatest crop” he put our daughters name and birthday 😭 The loves are being home, cats, and tea The hates are birds, mushrooms, and broccoli
So so sweet!

So I’ve only started 4 farms thus far on vanilla stardew. For my first 3 I’ve put the same thing as my favorite thing during character creation: cookies. A few days in I always got mail from mom saying “I’ve sent you your favorite cookies!” And I assumed she only sent cookies because I said cookies were my favorite thing. I always wondered, “if I say my favorite thing is a diamond, will I get a diamond from Mom???” So imagine my surprise when I say my favorite thing isn’t cookies, AND I STILL GET COOKIES!!! Goodbye blissful ignorance.
GUY FARMERS GET COOKIES?! I've only played one save as myself, and "Dad" sends me gold. My IRL dad would 100% send cookies, he likes to bake!
I think for guy farmers, their first gift is cookies from mom. Women farmers get 500g from dad.
Later, the other parent sends a gift. It’s not that guys don’t get cash, it just comes at a different time.
If you’re playing a hardcore speedrun, you might choose a female farmer for the early gift from dad.
Actually, female farmers only ever get gifts from Dad, and male farmers only ever from Mom. Letters come at specific milestones related to the amount of money earned. Dad sends 500g, another 500g, and then 30 stone. Mom sends cookies, 500g, and then a pink cake. So for pure money, picking a female farmer is actually better. But unless you’re speed running it doesn’t make a difference in the playthru as a whole.
Fascinating! I've only played one save so far, so that's interesting information.
Haha~ I kinda did something similar. I named my first chicken Charlie, and then it turned out Shanes chicken shared the name.. in one of the cut scenes, I got really confused and started wondering if he'd stolen my chicken xD
What a sweet coincidence!
If you play as a female farmer, instead of cookies, your Dad sends you 500g.
The "favorite thing" relates to what a stardrop tastes like to you. So if you say cookies, it tastes like cookies; I usually say strawberries. So, when you eat a stardrop, it will taste like diamonds to your farmer.
I said penguins was my favourite thing (first time player) that was quite the giggle I had when I first got a stardrop
If you put in Stardew or ConcernedApe as your favorite thing you get special messages
Stardrops remind me of lamp.
I was so confused by what they meant about my favorite thing so I just wrote a question mark and called it a day
Yes. Male farmers get cookies and female farmers get 500g.
But you can give leah salad which is 220 coins
Yeah but with wine it doesn’t cost anything
Sell the wine. Buy the salad. Make a profit.
Beer is easier and cheaper for Shane. He's in the saloon basically every night and gus sells it for 400g. Pizza is 600g.
I’d feel bad giving Shane beer since he’s an alcoholic
He loves red peppers and likes parsnips. I wooed him with both successfully.
Robin loves poppy? I think you're mistaking her for Penny.
Easiest probably depends on your play style but thanks for the list!
Haha that’s true! I didn’t really think about that, just wanted to post it for other people
Definitely doesn’t hurt to get some new ideas. :)
No worries. Sometimes it feels like there is an overabundance of redheads in Pelican Town, it's normal for some people to got them mixed.
easiest gifts for newbies are salmonberry, quartz, daffodils and sashimi
These are darling, well done!
And I was so happ irl. I got a veil in the beginning of the game (I can't even remember how), then I dyed some other clothes I had acquired. Look how cute we are. Also, it took me awhile to figure out how to get past 8 hearts so the buildup was real.
Then, riding to her that morning on my noble steed to give her a gift before the wedding cutscene was the icing on the cake.
I love this game.
Yup, very much looking forward to this too for me and Em. Got the pearl, got the fan.
Aww. Yay. I'm happy for you.
