Storyline Progression After the Sunbeam Event in Subnautica

TL;DR After the Sunbeam event, focus on exploration, especially going deeper into the ocean, to uncover more of the storyline. Check your PDA for clues and follow radio transmissions.

Exploration and Depth

The key to progressing in Subnautica after the Sunbeam event is exploration. Many players emphasize the importance of going deeper into the ocean to discover new areas and advance the storyline [1:4], [2:5], [3:9]. Exploring caves and deeper biomes can lead to significant story developments [4:2], [4:5].

Radio Transmissions and PDA Clues

Radio transmissions and entries in your PDA are crucial for guiding you to new locations and providing hints about what to do next [2:1], [3:3], [4:9]. Checking through your notes and logs can reveal references to important locations and events that you may have missed [4:1], [4:3].

Key Locations and Events

Visiting specific locations can trigger further progression. For example, exploring Keen's lifepod and the Aurora rendezvous point can unfold more of the story [1:2]. Additionally, visiting the alien facility near the Sunbeam landing site and scanning items there can provide valuable information [3:4].

Building and Crafting

Building vehicles like the Seamoth and Cyclops can aid in exploration and accessing deeper areas [3:5]. Constructing bases and crafting items can also trigger radio messages and events that contribute to the storyline [1:7].

General Advice

The game does not follow a linear progression, allowing players to explore at their own pace [5:1]. While it can be intimidating, especially when encountering hostile fauna or navigating deep areas, these challenges are part of the game's design to encourage exploration and discovery [2:3], [4:6].

Go to Keen's lifepod, then to the aurora rendezvous point. When you get there explore and the story will unfold

Visit Aurora. Find every lifepod you got message from. From one lifepod you can begin another big storyline.

It's all about exploration and going deeper. Subnautica doesn't hold your hand. It's up to you to figure out what to do next.

There really isn’t a definitive step after the sunbeam. You explore the story at your own place. But if you want more story, you going to have to go deeper eventually.

Build! So, i build one of everything i could. Those start the radio messages. Make sure to go and get the stuff at the message sites, they are worth it. Also, i think it goes without saying, but im going to say it. Make sure you are listing to the radio messages, as well as reading the bits of info you find. It all comes together.

When is the next major story progression? [Spoilers]

Posted by CreativeID1234 · in r/subnautica · 3 years ago

So I want to start this with no direct spoilers, please. I’m just looking for vague advice that’s slightly less vague than go deeper. So I already had the sunbeam incident a while ago, and self scans tell me that I’m infected. I have a 300 m sea moth. One weird thing is I got part of my moonpool from the deep grand reef and while I was getting it my screen went weird and it said warping. This freaked me out so I left before fully exploring that wreck. I know this game has an end, but is there anything I can do to progress the story.

Try to find the crashed lifepods of other crewmembers. All of those pods are near an interesting area which is worth exploring, thats how the game guides you. You get the location of these via your communicator.

3 upvotes on reddit
[deleted] · 3 years ago

Double check your radio transmissions, explore the beacons you get and the surrounding area. Some of the life pods are meant to lead you to the deeper locations in a round about sort of way. The warping was likely hostile fauna. Watch out for them, but they're not a huge threat.

5 upvotes on reddit
skyfire1977 · 3 years ago

Some events are triggered by you either scanning or building certain items, so make sure you scout around.

Sounds like a Warper found you; they patrol various areas and can pull you out of a SeaMoth or >!Prawn!<, but not a >!Cyclops!<. They can do some damage to you on their follow through attack, but the warp shock is basically the worst of it. Try to not attract their attention and they'll go away on their own, or sometimes hostile fauna will attack them.

Why not just find out yourself? Also did your screen in text say “warping”?

1 upvotes on reddit
Level3_Ghostline · 3 years ago

Entries in the Clues and Codes section of your PDA should give you a rough idea of the places and depths you should be aiming for in the long run.

As others have said, transmissions should guide you to areas that either introduce new biomes/resources, or to fragments and databoxes with useful technology, especially in regard to being able to go deeper.

I get no messages on radio after sunbeam got destroyed by alien canon. I created seamoth sea glider and I have found all cyclops fragments i have explored lot by sea moth and have got fragments but what do I do next I have got fragments but can't create them in current fabricator I don't know how to proceed ahead in story now. I just explore with seamoth and collect things.

The Degasi bases, if you haven’t explored them. I know they have some blueprint parts in the surrounding area that may be needed still, especially the second base. The third one will be close to an important area. Explore all around their stuff and it’ll help out.

Also, I believe if you went to the Sunbeam’s rendezvous it should put you near another really important area. Won’t explain for sake of spoiler, but you’ll know where I mean if you have been.

And if in doubt, go deeper. Unless you get a message about “ecological dead zone”, that’s the map border and it is not the place to be lol. Good luck!

If you look across the horizon atop the lifepod you will see two patches of clouds higher than the rest. These are the islands. That's all I can give you without spoiling anything, make sure to read the pda's you find.

Goodluck!

Yeah, I think a lot of people probably missed it, and feel like there should have been a reference to higher clouds around mountainous islands or something in one of the early bases you find. Because it's left in intentionally... presumably?

You see that huge alien facility nearby? Maybe wander around in there, scan everything you can scan (and actually read the PDA entries), see if there are any more of those nifty purple tablets lying about on (or under) the island...

That's a start.

(And no, I'm not trying to be snarky, lol. Sorry if that came across that way. I personally failed to read those PDA entries well enough after exploring that facility, so I missed a few clues about what to do next)

Other things to consider if you haven't already:

  • Make sure you have the radiation suit and go explore inside the Aurora. You'll get an important radio message in the next few days from Alterra HQ in the next few game-days that pertains to that, so you might want to wait for that.
    • Lots of neat cosmetic stuff on the Aurora you can use to decorate your base, so make sure you have a storage module on your seamoth (>!there's a second one inside; you can equip both!<).
    • >!Don't park too close to the bow or that reaper might decide to play with your 'moth while you're exploring inside.!<
    • You can find >!all the prawn fragments you need to scan in the prawn bay.!<
    • A propulsion cannon is handy for that trip, but not absolutely necessary. A laser cutter, repair tool, and scanner are absolutely a must.
  • Gather some resources, build your cyclops if you have the blueprints.
  • Build an alien containment and hatch some eggs, breed some fish, etc.
  • Upgrade your seamoth depth module to Mk3.
  • Locate and explore all 3 degasi survivor bases.
    • Tip: Keep a sharp eye out for dropped PDAs in/near the abandoned bases. At each base, there's an abandoned PDA that should give you a locator beacon for the next one. Slight spoiler:
      • >!The first is at Lifepod 19 (Officer Keen). There's one inside and one outside the pod. One of them gives you the location of the Floating Island.!<
      • >!The second is on the ground, on a path leading into a cave, just shoreward and to the left a bit from the central base structure at the floating island base).!<
      • >!The third is on the top shelf in a partly-closed locker in the first main room of the jellyshroom base.!<
    • Not a bad idea to bring a stasis rifle for that deepest one.

When in doubt about how to progress, keep exploring deeper. As for the cyclops fragments, once you have completed all 3 sets, you can make the cyclops itself as a whole using the same vehicle fabricator you used to make the seamoth. You don't actually make the individual parts of the cyclops separately.

I recommend playing Raft as well.
There's a shark that harasses you at every turn and provides challenges when trying to salvage necessary material off the ocean floor.
If you time it well, you can stab it multiple times and harvest its meat for food. Until then, it's cat and mouse trying to collect.

That game is my vacation time on the computer.

Just float on the ocean with the currents...

Sunbeam progression?

This is my first time playing through the game, and I’ve just gotten to the sunbeam arrival, countdown. I’ve already had it spoiled that it will explode. I’m worried because I’m not sure if I’ve progressed enough compared to the game’s storyline progression, I’ve only just made a laser cutter and habitat builder and haven’t made a base or gone to the Aurora yet.

Explore deeper. I dont want to add spoilers here for you. But if you've done the sunbeam event then theres a certain building you should have explored. After exploring it you'll have pda entries telling you basically to go deeper.

Some of the story triggers are timed some are trigger by certain things like going below a certain depth or exploring a certain biome for example

3 upvotes on reddit

I assume you’ve had all the stuff with the sunbeam happen, so the only way to progress the story is get the Prawn suit, and go to the other alien bases.

Ham and cheese, and go deeper. You’ll understand the meaning of that from a PDA, but mostly just go deeper.

7 upvotes on reddit
Phobicc_ · 6 years ago

After you've seen the Sunbeam explode you literally just have to go further down. At a certain point you'll find something that will make your PDA tell you to self-scan for the bacteria which will progress the story. After that continue going deeper until you meet the Sea Mama. At that point you only have to do like one or two more things and then you can leave the planet safely. While you're doing that also collect materials to build the launch pad. Once the launch pad is built you'll get radio messages with new blueprints and stuff

Is the Sunbeam event important ?

Posted by aayushisushi · in r/subnautica · 1 month ago

This is my first playthrough ; I accidentally saw a spoiler in the comments when I was looking at some of the game’s art online mentioning the Sunbeam exploding ? I recently received the radio transmission where the Sunbeam says they’re picking up a massive debris field blah blah blah they’re now en route. The spoiler I read mentioned the Sunbeam exploding once they landed. I don’t want to get rescued by them if I’m going to explode. Can I just avoid them, or is it important to go to the landing site once they tell me where ?

The Sunbeam landing site is important for many reasons in the game, not the least of which are resources you can collect. Not only do you want to go there to meet them, you will want to take your time exploring the site. You want available storage to carry what you get there.

The event itself is important for reasons of lore and is much better to witness in person. You will not be at risk from that event.

Something you should know. The waypoint the game gives you is only going to exist until the countdown expires. Once it is gone, so is the waypoint, unlike all of the life pods that you can still reactivate beacons. If you have the ability to craft beacons, make sure you leave one there. If not, watch closely how you get there so you can find the location again. You will absolutely need to go back again.

Possible spoiler. Be on the lookout for an available food source, it might just change your game.

[Spoilers] Very weird story progression - is this common?

Posted by darkfire9251 · in r/subnautica · 3 years ago

[Short warning] I barely reached 600m today, so just in case please don't discuss late game story stuff.

Soooo I had a very odd order of how things progressed in the game, at least judging from the guides I've read. I know the order of story events is semi-randomised, but this seems way out of line.

I had the rescue shuttle / quarantine enforcement reveal event before I even got the Seamoth. In fact it was so early I was still coming to grips with most basic gameplay elements. Since I arrived there, I also had the option of going to the island with the Degasi bases, but judging from the fact that I got the beacon for that island like 20h of gameplay later, I think something was off.

Is this normal? I feel like I kinda experienced the story backwards.

If yes, how the hell was I supposed to get the multipurpose room schematic earlier in the game? I don't think it appeared before the island Degasi bases.

It's not abnormal.

Basically, Subnautica's story isn't presented to you in a linear manner. You uncover it bit by bit at your own pace and in your own order for that playthrough. So, for example, if you've been checking your radio regularly then the Sunbeam event will happen sooner. Whereas if you ignore your radio, then there's a good chance you won't get the Sunbeam event until much later.

All of these story elements will come together at the end, so don't worry if things seem to happen "out of order" early on. It won't affect your progression in the game.

5 upvotes on reddit
Hailtherooster2 · 3 years ago

This is not “bad” it just means you get more of the information quicker. I don’t know if this is normal but I also got the alien base before seamoth. Don’t worry too much. All in all play it how you like it’s your play through. Happy swimming!

You do you. Since this game don’t have much set points everyone’s experience will be different. For example, in my first playthrough I discovered certain bases in odd order and spent half of the game without seaglide.

And you don’t really need multipurpose room earlier in the game.

First things first the story does not have a set path

The Sunbeam event will happen around a week or two of in-game time. If youre new, youre most likely still learning

The floating island however, the one you got some 20h in, only happens when you go visit Officer Keen's lifepod (I think thats his name? Its at 300m deep in the Sparse Reef) and if you didnt go to Keen then you will never get the marker for the floating island

Subnautica has one large overarching storyline; the players journey, with two sub-plots; the Aurora survivors and the Degasi

Neither of those sub-plots, or even the main plot, is forced upon you. They are simply smaller stories scattered around: youre not forced to interact with them at all for the main plot

Did you receive a transmission regarding some plans that were sent to the Aurora? You talk about having a Prawn suit, so I’m guessing you have been there. If not, you should go there, get the plans and deal with the radiation problem.

Definitely try to follow the Degasi survivors. If you didn’t find the signal to their next location while at the Floating Island, you missed finding a PDA that was lying on a path

The problem with that question is that the event you're talking about isn't tied to your progress in the story: it's a time-based event.

It's purpose is to direct you to the place it happens at and there you (should) have found clues to other locations for you to find (they're in your PDA). You'll have to find a way to go deeper.

If you've explored the entirety of Floating Island, you should've found a PDA that leads you to the next degasi seabase.

Start there. There's another PDA there that leads you to another place.

Beyond that, make sure you're following all the radio beacons you get, and keep an eye out for cave openings in the 300-600m range that lead into oh, say, larger cave systems at even greater depths.

You're going to want a mk3 depth module on your seamoth, and a perimeter defense, and at least the mk1 depth module for the Cyclops.

When in doubt, go deeper.

Storyline progression after the sunbeam event in subnautica

Key Considerations for Storyline Progression After the Sunbeam Event in Subnautica:

  1. Understanding the Sunbeam Event:

    • The Sunbeam event occurs when the player receives a transmission from the Sunbeam, a rescue ship. This event culminates in a dramatic moment where the Sunbeam attempts to land on the planet.
  2. Post-Sunbeam Event:

    • After the Sunbeam is destroyed by the Quarantine Enforcement Platform, the player is left without immediate rescue options. This event serves as a pivotal moment that deepens the sense of isolation and urgency in the game.
  3. New Objectives:

    • Following the Sunbeam event, players should focus on gathering resources and upgrading their equipment. Key objectives include:
      • Building a Cyclops: A submarine that allows for deeper exploration.
      • Constructing the Prawn Suit: A mech suit for exploring hazardous environments.
      • Exploring the Lost River and the Lava Zones: These areas contain crucial resources and story elements.
  4. Researching the Alien Facilities:

    • Players should prioritize finding and exploring alien facilities, such as the Disease Research Facility and the Primary Containment Facility. These locations provide vital information about the planet, the Precursors, and the source of the infection affecting the planet.
  5. Final Objectives:

    • The ultimate goal is to find a way to escape the planet, which involves crafting the necessary components to build the Neptune Escape Rocket. This requires gathering materials from various biomes and completing specific tasks.

Takeaway: After the Sunbeam event, focus on exploration, resource gathering, and understanding the lore through alien facilities. This will lead you to the necessary steps for crafting the escape rocket and ultimately completing the game. Enjoy the journey and the rich storytelling that Subnautica offers!
