TL;DR After the Sunbeam event, focus on exploration, especially going deeper into the ocean, to uncover more of the storyline. Check your PDA for clues and follow radio transmissions.
Exploration and Depth
The key to progressing in Subnautica after the Sunbeam event is exploration. Many players emphasize the importance of going deeper into the ocean to discover new areas and advance the storyline [1:4],
[2:5],
[3:9]. Exploring caves and deeper biomes can lead to significant story developments
[4:2],
[4:5].
Radio Transmissions and PDA Clues
Radio transmissions and entries in your PDA are crucial for guiding you to new locations and providing hints about what to do next [2:1],
[3:3],
[4:9]. Checking through your notes and logs can reveal references to important locations and events that you may have missed
[4:1],
[4:3].
Key Locations and Events
Visiting specific locations can trigger further progression. For example, exploring Keen's lifepod and the Aurora rendezvous point can unfold more of the story [1:2]. Additionally, visiting the alien facility near the Sunbeam landing site and scanning items there can provide valuable information
[3:4].
Building and Crafting
Building vehicles like the Seamoth and Cyclops can aid in exploration and accessing deeper areas [3:5]. Constructing bases and crafting items can also trigger radio messages and events that contribute to the storyline
[1:7].
General Advice
The game does not follow a linear progression, allowing players to explore at their own pace [5:1]. While it can be intimidating, especially when encountering hostile fauna or navigating deep areas, these challenges are part of the game's design to encourage exploration and discovery
[2:3],
[4:6].
since the sunbeam crash i think i haven't made any story progress..i got some messages in the radio but thats it.
i am just enjoying the game, got the seamoth today and built a base but i feel like i must make a progress in the story..
Go to Keen's lifepod, then to the aurora rendezvous point. When you get there explore and the story will unfold
Visit Aurora. Find every lifepod you got message from. From one lifepod you can begin another big storyline.
It's all about exploration and going deeper. Subnautica doesn't hold your hand. It's up to you to figure out what to do next.
A general rule of thumb is to go deeper.
dude i can't lol,..that shit scares me. the main question is what am i supposed to do after the sunbeam crash?
Are you going deeper in a large cave or a black void
There really isn’t a definitive step after the sunbeam. You explore the story at your own place. But if you want more story, you going to have to go deeper eventually.
Build! So, i build one of everything i could. Those start the radio messages. Make sure to go and get the stuff at the message sites, they are worth it. Also, i think it goes without saying, but im going to say it. Make sure you are listing to the radio messages, as well as reading the bits of info you find. It all comes together.
So I want to start this with no direct spoilers, please. I’m just looking for vague advice that’s slightly less vague than go deeper. So I already had the sunbeam incident a while ago, and self scans tell me that I’m infected. I have a 300 m sea moth. One weird thing is I got part of my moonpool from the deep grand reef and while I was getting it my screen went weird and it said warping. This freaked me out so I left before fully exploring that wreck. I know this game has an end, but is there anything I can do to progress the story.
Try to find the crashed lifepods of other crewmembers. All of those pods are near an interesting area which is worth exploring, thats how the game guides you. You get the location of these via your communicator.
Double check your radio transmissions, explore the beacons you get and the surrounding area. Some of the life pods are meant to lead you to the deeper locations in a round about sort of way. The warping was likely hostile fauna. Watch out for them, but they're not a huge threat.
Some events are triggered by you either scanning or building certain items, so make sure you scout around.
Sounds like a Warper found you; they patrol various areas and can pull you out of a SeaMoth or >!Prawn!<, but not a >!Cyclops!<. They can do some damage to you on their follow through attack, but the warp shock is basically the worst of it. Try to not attract their attention and they'll go away on their own, or sometimes hostile fauna will attack them.
Why not just find out yourself? Also did your screen in text say “warping”?
Entries in the Clues and Codes section of your PDA should give you a rough idea of the places and depths you should be aiming for in the long run.
As others have said, transmissions should guide you to areas that either introduce new biomes/resources, or to fragments and databoxes with useful technology, especially in regard to being able to go deeper.
I get no messages on radio after sunbeam got destroyed by alien canon. I created seamoth sea glider and I have found all cyclops fragments i have explored lot by sea moth and have got fragments but what do I do next I have got fragments but can't create them in current fabricator I don't know how to proceed ahead in story now. I just explore with seamoth and collect things.
The Degasi bases, if you haven’t explored them. I know they have some blueprint parts in the surrounding area that may be needed still, especially the second base. The third one will be close to an important area. Explore all around their stuff and it’ll help out.
Also, I believe if you went to the Sunbeam’s rendezvous it should put you near another really important area. Won’t explain for sake of spoiler, but you’ll know where I mean if you have been.
And if in doubt, go deeper. Unless you get a message about “ecological dead zone”, that’s the map border and it is not the place to be lol. Good luck!
If you look across the horizon atop the lifepod you will see two patches of clouds higher than the rest. These are the islands. That's all I can give you without spoiling anything, make sure to read the pda's you find.
Goodluck!
Had no idea you could spot them based on the cloud height. I just ran into them by accident and just remembered which direction I swam from when going back to the lifepod
Yeah, I think a lot of people probably missed it, and feel like there should have been a reference to higher clouds around mountainous islands or something in one of the early bases you find. Because it's left in intentionally... presumably?
Seek for huge steam/cloud like stuff, but it always touches the sea level
You see that huge alien facility nearby? Maybe wander around in there, scan everything you can scan (and actually read the PDA entries), see if there are any more of those nifty purple tablets lying about on (or under) the island...
That's a start.
(And no, I'm not trying to be snarky, lol. Sorry if that came across that way. I personally failed to read those PDA entries well enough after exploring that facility, so I missed a few clues about what to do next)
Other things to consider if you haven't already:
Thank you for taking time and writing this. But I can't find laser cutting fragments i only have one i searched for its fragments for hours still can find all.
When in doubt about how to progress, keep exploring deeper. As for the cyclops fragments, once you have completed all 3 sets, you can make the cyclops itself as a whole using the same vehicle fabricator you used to make the seamoth. You don't actually make the individual parts of the cyclops separately.
First things first, make the vehicles
2nd, explore
3rd, go deeper
I think i got all the radio lifepods, i did the sunbean alien thing, got the seamoth, got blueprints for prawn suit, got magnetite and lithium, got the growbeds and now i dont know what to do. I have just been building my habitat and stocking up on fish. My friend has been watching me and hes played the game before but he doesent remember. Can anyone tell me what i should do next?
Go deeper.Dont go to the edges of the map, just go deeper inside of the map using caves. You will see parts of story
How do you tell if you've reached the edge of the map? Is there an invisible wall or something?
Oh, you'll know ;)
Check your PDA. There should be entries in there about alien stuff that should point you where to go. Also the logs of the Degasi survivor's.
The game hides all sorts of clues and tips in your PDA
Yeah the PDA has LOTS of helpful info you might have missed at the first time you heard it.
Or stuff that I saw the first time, and thought “Go THERE?! Now?! Absolutely not!!!!!” And then hours of gameplay later, when I do feel ready, I’ll have forgotten about it.
Always remember, go deeper. Explore biomes you've never been. If it's scary, you're doing the right thing
Its scary just swimming through the kelp forest. Actually its scary swimming in that game in general.
I recommend playing Raft as well.
There's a shark that harasses you at every turn and provides challenges when trying to salvage necessary material off the ocean floor.
If you time it well, you can stab it multiple times and harvest its meat for food. Until then, it's cat and mouse trying to collect.
That game is my vacation time on the computer.
Just float on the ocean with the currents...
Look for scary places, and spots to go deeper
Check through your notes in your menu! There should be references to relevant locations you haven't visited yet, try to find them! If you fully explored the island the sunbeam was due to land on you should have some info.
This is my first time playing through the game, and I’ve just gotten to the sunbeam arrival, countdown. I’ve already had it spoiled that it will explode. I’m worried because I’m not sure if I’ve progressed enough compared to the game’s storyline progression, I’ve only just made a laser cutter and habitat builder and haven’t made a base or gone to the Aurora yet.
You spoiled yourself, but maybe a spoiler tag for others?
Don't matter how far you are
You're just fine. The nice thing about this game is progression isn't linear. You can take as much or as little time as you want.
[I think this does contain some spoilers so even thou the title might say no spoiler I'm just gonna edit it and tag it s spoiler] I am fairly new to Subnautica. I only have 24 hours clocked in 24 hours. I have a small base with a scanner room bioreactor, a Seamoth, A cyclops etc. What do I do now? I got me cyclops, I have a base, I have a seamoth, I have a Chinese potatoes farm. What do I do, is there something to do beyond this point, how do I progress the story? What should I do? Find the eggs for those things? Find Launching pad fragments? Sorry if this wat too long or if my English was bad. There are no new messages from the radio either
Explore deeper. I dont want to add spoilers here for you. But if you've done the sunbeam event then theres a certain building you should have explored. After exploring it you'll have pda entries telling you basically to go deeper.
Some of the story triggers are timed some are trigger by certain things like going below a certain depth or exploring a certain biome for example
I assume you’ve had all the stuff with the sunbeam happen, so the only way to progress the story is get the Prawn suit, and go to the other alien bases.
Thanks mate
Ham and cheese, and go deeper. You’ll understand the meaning of that from a PDA, but mostly just go deeper.
After you've seen the Sunbeam explode you literally just have to go further down. At a certain point you'll find something that will make your PDA tell you to self-scan for the bacteria which will progress the story. After that continue going deeper until you meet the Sea Mama. At that point you only have to do like one or two more things and then you can leave the planet safely. While you're doing that also collect materials to build the launch pad. Once the launch pad is built you'll get radio messages with new blueprints and stuff
This is my first playthrough ; I accidentally saw a spoiler in the comments when I was looking at some of the game’s art online mentioning the Sunbeam exploding ? I recently received the radio transmission where the Sunbeam says they’re picking up a massive debris field blah blah blah they’re now en route. The spoiler I read mentioned the Sunbeam exploding once they landed. I don’t want to get rescued by them if I’m going to explode. Can I just avoid them, or is it important to go to the landing site once they tell me where ?
Yeah, so basically the Sunbeam lands, and when you go aboard, it explodes and you die. That's it, game's over and the credits roll. Oh, and also it deleats your save file so you have to start over.
Would be great if you managed to get on, then got shot down during takeoff and had to bail in a lifepod again.
(spoilers) >!I always wished they would have let players launch the escape rocket even if they hadn't disabled the gun, and promptly get blown up lol!<
lol, not to spoil anything, but yes you should go to the sunbeam rendezvous. Very slight spoiler: You don't die and there's important game-progressing things to do there.
from a lore perspective: yea, its pretty important.
from a gameplay perspective: the event itself isn't important, but the location is very important. go there and place a beacon
Go to the landing site. You won't regret it. It's also fairly important for the story.
Ok thank you
Also try to stop reading anything online until you finish the game. Even if it doesn’t seem like a spoiler. You only get to play this game blind once, and it’s worth it.
The Sunbeam landing site is important for many reasons in the game, not the least of which are resources you can collect. Not only do you want to go there to meet them, you will want to take your time exploring the site. You want available storage to carry what you get there.
The event itself is important for reasons of lore and is much better to witness in person. You will not be at risk from that event.
Something you should know. The waypoint the game gives you is only going to exist until the countdown expires. Once it is gone, so is the waypoint, unlike all of the life pods that you can still reactivate beacons. If you have the ability to craft beacons, make sure you leave one there. If not, watch closely how you get there so you can find the location again. You will absolutely need to go back again.
Possible spoiler. Be on the lookout for an available food source, it might just change your game.
[Short warning] I barely reached 600m today, so just in case please don't discuss late game story stuff.
Soooo I had a very odd order of how things progressed in the game, at least judging from the guides I've read. I know the order of story events is semi-randomised, but this seems way out of line.
I had the rescue shuttle / quarantine enforcement reveal event before I even got the Seamoth. In fact it was so early I was still coming to grips with most basic gameplay elements. Since I arrived there, I also had the option of going to the island with the Degasi bases, but judging from the fact that I got the beacon for that island like 20h of gameplay later, I think something was off.
Is this normal? I feel like I kinda experienced the story backwards.
If yes, how the hell was I supposed to get the multipurpose room schematic earlier in the game? I don't think it appeared before the island Degasi bases.
It's not abnormal.
Basically, Subnautica's story isn't presented to you in a linear manner. You uncover it bit by bit at your own pace and in your own order for that playthrough. So, for example, if you've been checking your radio regularly then the Sunbeam event will happen sooner. Whereas if you ignore your radio, then there's a good chance you won't get the Sunbeam event until much later.
All of these story elements will come together at the end, so don't worry if things seem to happen "out of order" early on. It won't affect your progression in the game.
This is not “bad” it just means you get more of the information quicker. I don’t know if this is normal but I also got the alien base before seamoth. Don’t worry too much. All in all play it how you like it’s your play through. Happy swimming!
same it took 10 hours for me to get seamoth
Subnautica is an open world game. There is no "wrong" progression
You do you. Since this game don’t have much set points everyone’s experience will be different. For example, in my first playthrough I discovered certain bases in odd order and spent half of the game without seaglide.
And you don’t really need multipurpose room earlier in the game.
First things first the story does not have a set path
The Sunbeam event will happen around a week or two of in-game time. If youre new, youre most likely still learning
The floating island however, the one you got some 20h in, only happens when you go visit Officer Keen's lifepod (I think thats his name? Its at 300m deep in the Sparse Reef) and if you didnt go to Keen then you will never get the marker for the floating island
Subnautica has one large overarching storyline; the players journey, with two sub-plots; the Aurora survivors and the Degasi
Neither of those sub-plots, or even the main plot, is forced upon you. They are simply smaller stories scattered around: youre not forced to interact with them at all for the main plot
Here are the things I've done, so you know what not to give info on:
Explore the entirety of the Floating Island
Get the Ion Cube in the Quarantine Enforcement Platform (Are there multiple? I only got one)
Make a Cyclops
Make a prawn suit
Cyclops docking bay repair module (from time capsule)
Prawn suit drill arm
Prawn suit grapple arm
Seamoth depth module MK1
Seamoth Sonar
Made my Cyclops into a fully self sustaining base
That's basically it. Give any suggestions/direct plots you can for after the Sunbeam in the comments.
Did you receive a transmission regarding some plans that were sent to the Aurora? You talk about having a Prawn suit, so I’m guessing you have been there. If not, you should go there, get the plans and deal with the radiation problem.
Definitely try to follow the Degasi survivors. If you didn’t find the signal to their next location while at the Floating Island, you missed finding a PDA that was lying on a path
yeah i must have then
The problem with that question is that the event you're talking about isn't tied to your progress in the story: it's a time-based event.
It's purpose is to direct you to the place it happens at and there you (should) have found clues to other locations for you to find (they're in your PDA). You'll have to find a way to go deeper.
Okay.
Where stone is black as night and kelp is white as snow the maw shall await you. Purgatory an insane realm of unatural color and ghosts of the dead. A single tree will be your guide into hell itself
blood kelp zone - lost river - tree - lava zones
i get that but like how do i get to be able to do shit down there?
Depth modules.
When all else fails; dive deeper.
If you've explored the entirety of Floating Island, you should've found a PDA that leads you to the next degasi seabase.
Start there. There's another PDA there that leads you to another place.
Beyond that, make sure you're following all the radio beacons you get, and keep an eye out for cave openings in the 300-600m range that lead into oh, say, larger cave systems at even greater depths.
You're going to want a mk3 depth module on your seamoth, and a perimeter defense, and at least the mk1 depth module for the Cyclops.
When in doubt, go deeper.
okay. i found that pda but i dont read the pdas :sob: whyyy didnt i do thatt
Everybody does that kind of thing until they realize how much useful crap is in there...
After the sunbeam the radio stops being what drives the story, build tools, explore and wait, those are the triggers for new radio messages, but if you don't know what to do, probably there are some pods and bases you haven't checked out.
I'm gonna go looking for the other two dagasi bases next time I play. (Think that's how you spell it)
Check the degasi and pods, when u hear about lifepod 2, you're pretty much at the start of the end
Yep, those move the story forward
Its actually degasi but good try
Look for the blood kelp trench, which is, well, a trench, and its surrounded by grassy platues and sparse reef. Once you've found it, load up your cyclops and try to fit in down into the trench. You'll find something very interesting, and remember, always look deeper.
This guy is correct. Make sure to bring your prawn suit.
