Subnautica Vehicle Upgrades

Crafting Vehicle Upgrades

To craft vehicle upgrades in Subnautica, you need the Vehicle Upgrade Console. This console is a base component that must be built in the Moonpool using the Habitat Builder [1:2]. The blueprint for this console can be found in data boxes located in various wrecks, such as those in the Shallows and the red grass biome [1:1]. Once you have the blueprint, ensure you have all the necessary ingredients to craft the upgrades [1:3].

Finding the Vehicle Upgrade Console Blueprint

The Vehicle Upgrade Console blueprint can be tricky to find. Common locations include the grassy plateau area near the northeastern mushroom forest, where it is often inside a wreck that requires a laser cutter to access [3:1]. Other players have found it in the Mushroom Forest wreck near lifepod 13, which also contains the Cyclops thermal module blueprint [5:3]. Additionally, checking grassy plateau wrecks or the north-west mushroom forest can yield results [5:4][5:5].

Desired Vehicle Upgrades

Players have expressed interest in several potential upgrades beyond what is currently available. Suggestions include a speed upgrade for the Seamoth, a sonar upgrade for the Prawn Suit, and a battery charger for the Seamoth [4:1][4:2][4:6]. Other creative ideas involve adding more prawn suit arms, a scanner upgrade for the Prawn Suit, and even humorous suggestions like giving the Cyclops a honking noise similar to the car from The Dukes of Hazzard [4:4][4:5].

Utilizing Resources

For players struggling to locate blueprints or needing additional guidance, the Subnautica wiki is a valuable resource. It provides detailed information on locations and crafting requirements, making it a helpful tool for both new and experienced players [5:1]. Bookmarking the wiki can save time and provide quick answers to common questions about the game.

ORIGINAL POST

I have the drill arm for the Prawn suit but I’m confused as to how to craft the module. I already have the Moonpool station at my base but it won’t let me craft there nor on the Cyclops and neither on the portable Vehicle Builder thingy

CupcakeFormer · 2 years ago

They are crafted with the vehicle upgrade console in the moonpool. If you have the recipe and the ingredients and it still doesn't work you may want to try restarting the game.

5 upvotes on reddit
BigChungusOP · OP · 2 years ago

Does the moonpool already have that installed or do I have to build one separately in the moonpool? I’ll check again when I visit my base

1 upvotes on reddit
CupcakeFormer · 2 years ago

You have to build it in the moonpool with the habitat builder. The blueprint for the vehicle upgrade console can be found in data boxes so you'll want to search wrecks for that.

Username211220 · 2 years ago

No you have to build and find it(i think) on your own

3 upvotes on reddit
Chimalez · 2 years ago

As the other people in the comments have said, there is an actual base component called the Vehicle Upgrade Console that you have to find the blueprint for before you can make upgrades. I believe its parts can be found in the Shallows, and also frequently in the red grass biome.

I got Submarine from schematics. HowBazzar has it listed as a tech item but the tag is missing in game. Any body know if this is a bug or intentional?

Yes, it just doesn't have the space to show you. I also learned that Combat Core is a vehicle even though it doesn't show you the Vehicle tag.

Yeah, I only figured it out cause my silver skill options were shit but I took the best one available to me, which was if you have a vehicle, you get cdr for non vehicles. Then, as I was looking at my board in the next shop my stuff had CDR minus the Combat Core. Then howbazzar.gg confirmed it.

Idk I feel like tech is mostly for futuristic technology.

Lots of Dooley's items that are more advanced technology than a submarine don't get the tag because they're not SciFi-esque.

it does look futuristic though...that's not how a regular modern submarine looks lol

(also, stuff like gpu or led's are far from being "futuristic" anyway)

3 upvotes on reddit
Sharkbait_O_aha · 7 months ago

It is, but that is something they def need to update. It should be simple enough to show more then 4 tags. I also would have been way better off on a run yesterday if I new it was tech cause I took a useless skill instead of a tech one because I thought I had none lol

1 upvotes on reddit

Nightmarespawn · 7 months ago

Agreed. I'm not gonna just pretend I know how easy that would be implemented. But given this patch introduced multiple types and multiple items now have multiple types, it would have been nice.

1 upvotes on reddit
C
CoolCly · 7 months ago

It probably is Tech, but it can only show four tags at once. Reynad mentioned it when talking about Beast of Burden in the patch notes - you won't be able to see the tags it gains since they can only show four at once. I didn't know there were other items that have multiple tags we can't see but it makes sense. I'm sure they'll add that to mouseover or something at some point.

I know it takes the fun out of the game, but sometimes I do a run without blueprints, just to gather, and build millions of bases.

The blueprint I found was >!in a wreck in the grassy plateau area near the northeastern mushroom forest (the one near the Aurora/Mountain island). You need a laser cutter to get to it, and it should be on the "bottom floor" of the wreck in a data box (same wreck contains a data box for a lightweight high capacity O2 tank - that's how you know you've found the right one.!< Hope that helps! :)

A prawn suit scanner. Not an arm, but an upgrade that allows you to press a button and scan things without getting out of the suit. Realistically you wouldn’t want to spend a lot of time with no pressure protection 1700 meters deep underwater scanning a cool looking plant, and getting in and out of the suit is annoying.

That would be great! Another idea I had would be an upgrade that allows you to access/edit your storage and upgrades in your PDA. Like an extra tab.

I think an arm with a single slot for players to mount any tool in could be cool. Would have to be switched from outside the vehicle so it wouldn’t be op, but then u could scan or have a repulsion cannon or whatever

What types of vehicles are you hoping for in Subnautica 2?

Posted by SlipperySp00der · in r/subnautica · 7 months ago

There’s the classic ones like “a seamoth but better” or “Cyclopes but bigger” but I wanna hear some more creative stuff. Id take a wager that sub 2 is gonna be a good bit bigger than the OG game. So I think it’s fair to have a few more options than one that’s fast, one that’s good for scouting and collecting resources (the prawn), and the CHONKER. It’s alredy been said that bases are getting a whole team focused on them so clearly they want us to have a bit more freedom. And considering that multiplayer is an option, having players being able to choose different vehicles could help spice things up. Like say two vehicles that function similar too the seamoth but say ones a little faster but has higher crush depth and maybe a specialization like maneuverability, while ones a little slower, stronger, and a differing specialization like towing stuff around kinda like the seatruck.

My main one that I think would honestly be genius is a boat type of vehicle. It’s massive and is basically all you need mobile base wise, it’s just hella resource dense and maybe is lacking in some nuances you can only have in your base to keep players from just existing on it. Definitely a late game vehicle too. Maybe it can even carry this games bigger sub and drop it whenever you find a place worth exploring. Like a cyclops for a cyclops. Its catch is it can’t go underwater itself. It’s good bringing a boatload of stuff with you, but you can’t take it down with you, and hoping that this game has some really deep areas, that would be a drawback. Also leaves you a bit open for creature attacks sense it would be a big mama.

Another one that I have less to say is maybe some sort of spider vehicle. Much like the prawn but it can’t jump (well maybe it can but just not too high). It can however climb walls and has mandibles for collecting resources. Having a vehicle bound too the sea floor or walls could be really cool in my eyes

I would want a sub that's kinda like a mini-Cyclops that still has a bit of space to build inside, but has a scanner that basically works as a portable scanner room, and maybe even have the ability to scan the ocean floor to then map it out on your PDA

11 upvotes on reddit
R
Ragnarok314159 · 7 months ago

I would like something like this and it would have limited capacitor output that can be upgraded.

For instance, you want to run a scanner? Great. You have to put it into low power mode, can’t move, but can recharge (thermal vent type situation). The mapping sonar aid may attract unwanted guests.

There needs to be a trade off on things.

2 upvotes on reddit
SlipperySp00der · OP · 7 months ago

Oooo I’m torn on that. On the one had it would be so hella fun to use that, but on the other I feel like it would cause less open water exploration. With the boat it’s late game and would probably be pretty slow so more often than not players would use the “seamoth” of the game to get around. I feel like for the type of vehicle that would be it would have to be about middle of the game progression wise. To me it just feels like it would be too good of an option for players to use anything else. Also I’m not too sure how a surfboard would mesh with Subnauticas technology design. Everything is sleek and efficient. I feel a surfboard would stick out a bit. But it is an interesting idea for sure

5 upvotes on reddit
The24thWizard · 7 months ago

Exploration is fun but it would be useful if you want to go from point A to B and you already know the way, especially because what you want is under water so you still need to explore.

1 upvotes on reddit
PsychologicalBig3010 · 7 months ago

Well I didnt mean an actual surfboard but like a thing you stand on that goes really fast. And it would be be used to go above certain areas. Then you just pick it back up and you can dive down. And the boat you suggested could hold stuff on it and even carry a vehicle, but the board would just be a quick exploration thing, when you dont feel the need to take a whole ass boat with you. It'd be faster than the boat (by a decent bit) but you wouldnt be able to carry anything on it

Maybe its niche, but maybe it'll be useful for a thing or two (wouldnt be expensive to craft either, but it would require you to go deep to get its ingredients or something)

1 upvotes on reddit
rust_tg · 7 months ago

I really like the boat idea. An idea i have for that is that u can shoot a chain/rope down to the seafloor, which both anchors the boat and allows u to quickly descend/ascend back to the boat. And the prawn or prawn equivalent would be able to attach to it. That way u can travel on the surface and then quickly get down to the ocean floor for deep exploration

The rope/chain by default would not be able to deploy at certain depths, but could be upgraded to deploy deeper. That way u dont skip to too late in the game and theres some ability for progression still

And maybe the boat could have a radar module or something so you could actually have a map of the whole area

Yeah it also gives an equivalent to the depth module v1, v2 etc system that all other vehicles have

1 upvotes on reddit
SlipperySp00der · OP · 7 months ago

I do like that idea a lot. Be a very interesting vehicle. I’m back and fourth with the big enough for a small base though. On one hand it would be hella cool for a mini base to travel like that, on the other I would love some clostriphobia with it being on the smaller side, making you feel a lot less defended when using it

2 upvotes on reddit
Acid_impersonator · 7 months ago

An end game huge submarine with no manual controls, more of a constant moving base that follows a designated path around the whole map, with tiny service bots that go out to get resources and 2+ slots for vehicles (or even 4). This moving hub would be a luxurious end game base and fortress with incredible ever changing views out of the windows so you can enjoy the whole map, kinda like with the cyclops but removing the ‘hassle’ (even if it’s fun sometimes) to drive it around

26 upvotes on reddit

subnautica vehicle upgrades

Key Considerations for Subnautica Vehicle Upgrades

  1. Types of Vehicles:

    • Seamoth: A small, one-person submersible ideal for exploration.
    • Prawn Suit: A larger, exosuit designed for deep-sea exploration and resource gathering.
    • Cyclops: A massive submarine that can carry multiple vehicles and offers a mobile base.
  2. Upgrade Modules:

    • Seamoth Upgrades:
      • Sonar Upgrade: Helps detect nearby objects and terrain.
      • Depth Module: Increases maximum depth (up to 900m with the Mk3).
      • Torpedo System: Allows you to launch torpedoes for defense.
    • Prawn Suit Upgrades:
      • Depth Module: Increases maximum depth (up to 1,700m with the Mk2).
      • Drill Arm: Enables mining of resources from the environment.
      • Grappling Arm: Allows for mobility and climbing.
    • Cyclops Upgrades:
      • Sonar Upgrade: Provides a radar-like view of the surrounding area.
      • Depth Module: Increases maximum depth (up to 1,700m with the Mk2).
      • Shield Generator: Provides temporary protection from damage.
  3. Crafting Requirements:

    • Upgrades require specific materials and blueprints. Gather resources like Titanium, Lithium, and Plasteel Ingots to craft upgrades.
  4. Location of Blueprints:

    • Blueprints for upgrades can be found in wrecks, data boxes, or by scanning fragments in various biomes.

Recommendation: Prioritize upgrading your Seamoth with the Depth Module and Sonar Upgrade early in the game for safer exploration. The Prawn Suit is invaluable for resource gathering, so focus on acquiring its Drill Arm and Depth Module as you progress. For the Cyclops, ensure you have the Shield Generator to protect against hostile creatures while exploring deeper areas.
