Switching from Postpaid to Prepaid Verizon

TL;DR Switching from postpaid to prepaid with Verizon involves considering factors like plan costs, international usage, and potential savings. Evaluate your current needs and compare them with prepaid offerings.

Understanding Plan Differences

Switching from a postpaid to a prepaid plan can offer more flexibility and potentially lower costs. Postpaid plans often come with added benefits like international roaming options, which can be useful if you frequently travel [1:2]. However, these features might not be necessary for everyone, and prepaid plans could offer significant savings if you're primarily using domestic services.

International Usage Considerations

If international usage is a concern, as highlighted by a user whose father was using Verizon service abroad at $12 per day [1:3], switching to prepaid might require additional planning for international communication. Options like Verizon's Travel Pass or free apps like LINE can help mitigate high international fees [1:4].

Evaluating Costs and Benefits

Before making the switch, evaluate the cost differences between your current postpaid plan and available prepaid options. Prepaid plans typically offer lower monthly rates but may lack some of the perks associated with postpaid plans. It's important to assess whether the lack of certain features will impact your usage significantly.

Transition Process

The transition from postpaid to prepaid can involve logistical steps such as settling any outstanding balances on devices or contracts [3:3]. Ensure that you understand the terms of your current contract and any potential fees associated with early termination or device payments before switching.

Recommendations Beyond Discussions

Consider contacting Verizon directly to discuss your specific needs and explore all available prepaid options. They can provide detailed information about the plans that best suit your usage patterns and budget. Additionally, researching online forums and reviews can offer insights into other customers' experiences with Verizon prepaid services.

iPhone 17 deals for switching to Verizon?

Posted by NotRealChicken · in r/verizon · 7 days ago

I’ve done some searching but wanted to ask for help here in case I missed something

Currently I’m on tmobile with 6 lines at $35 per line, all 6 lines are iPhone 12

Looking at the Apple store app and Verizon they don’t have the best trade in value for iPhone 12 and would only have the $830 deal at the unlimited plus plan ($45/line)

If I port all the lines over to Verizon they would all be new lines. Is there any new line deal better than the $45 per line Unlimited Plus?

Thanks in advance!

The Apple store/online store says that the trade in value for the iPhone 12 ranges from $100 to $230 depending on your model. The iPhone 12 mini is $100 the Pro Max is $230. The base model is $140.

You will only get the most trade in value on the highest plan. If you want more for your trade in then you go ultimate. Want a lower plan then you’ll less for trade in then. Pick one. These are the most common scenarios.

Every now and then they will have promos where they won’t required a trade in, you can pick any plan and the phone is free (bill credits). They’re running that promo right now for 16 pros. May see those type of deals around Black Friday and the holidays on the 17s. Good luck.

Switching from Verizon

Posted by Jawbreakuh · in r/Comcast_Xfinity · 8 days ago

Good morning, trying to button down the process of moving 4 lines over to Xfinity from VzW after 25 years. I have Xfinity internet 30mpbs at home and believe that makes me eligible for moving over as long as I maintain that internet service. We will be moving to the Unlimited Premium plan. One phone is paid off, the other 3 have a 300 or so balance with Verizon. As I understand from the website, I can pay those lines off and submit for reimbursement from Xfinity via virtual MasterCard. I can then trade those in under the current promotions and order new devices (and just keep the one that is paid off - I've verified it is compatible) with 24 month bill credits. Is all of that correct? It looks like the 4 lines on premium unlimited would be 100/mo for the first year and then I would be charged additional for 4th line. Thanks for the help!

Switching from Verizon Fios to T-Mobile Home Internet as a WFH - Thoughts?

Posted by Competitive_Phrase45 · in r/tmobileisp · 8 days ago

I'm currently working from home and using Verizon Fios 500 Mbps, which costs me $70/month. Since I'm already a T-Mobile wireless customer, I'm considering switching to T-Mobile Home Internet. Has anyone made a similar switch? How's the reliability and speed for WFH tasks? Any advice or experiences would be super helpful!

Don't save a few bucks for headaches.  I wish I had fiber right now.  My starlink modem went down(customer service hasn't gotten back to me) and my backup T-Mobile home internet doesn't have the bandwidth for everybody.  Stick with fiber.

Fiber over FWA alreadys unless your the very few that live in the mmWave 5G home markets. Your upload will not match Fios by a long shot. If you do video calling or meetings a lot you’re gonna notice the difference imo. I’m not saying TMO 5G internet is bad but it’s highly variable and can’t even compare to fiber.

Agreed. Unless there’s some really unique circumstances that the OP has failed to mention, I’m baffled as to why this is even a question.

I assume savings, cause yes TMO internet looks enticing compared to most wireline providers. But I assume they also use said Fios internet personally too?

Will it work for you? Maybe. That's highly dependent on your actual location/tower you use and what exactly you need out of the connection. Someone across town from you nevermind a different part of the country can have vastly different experience. It is NOT as good as fiber or even cable though, at least for the home service with provided gateways. While speed is usually not an issue, other aspects like latency (particularly loaded is where things can suffer, not so much idle), packet loss, and that sort of thing can really come into play. Also the provided gateways are extremely limited if you need any specific network configuration or something. Some of that you can work around, but still kind of a hassle. Also the connection can be pretty inconsistent too, especially if you are in a congested area or have marginal signal. It can be great for days, not so great on other days, etc.

Personally I wouldn't use it if my livelihood depended on it and had wired isp's as options. For a general home connection where any of that isn't as critical it's great for the right price. If nothing else, try it out with a good amount of overlap before cancelling FiOS. Like a good couple weeks or more rather than days.

So I have had TMHI for almost 3 years now (Cleveland, OH area). I switched from ATT Fiber. I had issues for the first few months but they got corrected. And I had alot of patients. I use my own routers connected in AP mode because I need a mesh network.
Everything has been good for over 2 years until the last 2 months. They finally upgraded my area to 5G SA. And I went from speeds of 500mbps-900mbps now to only 50mbps-150mbps. Uploads are even worse going from 80-100mbps now to under 5mbps and sometimes 0. Average PIngs went from 20-30ms to now 50-75ms. And I've read that 5G SA is much slower. Amazingly my connection stats got better but my speeds got slower. But it's a very oversaturated area here, it's a major metro.
That being said today was my last straw. Ever since they launched the 5G SA, I've been having to reset my gateway 3-4 times a week. Pings will go into the 2000's. And a restart usually corrects it. But today it didn't and my cell phone mobile internet was out also. Tech support instead of helping me, instead wanted to sell me a new iPhone. Literally 5 times even though I said NO 5 times. And then he tried to tell me that I need to reset my iPhone to correct the issue, and I hung up. I don't know what has happened at T-Mobile lately.
I will be honest I'm on the $25/mo for life promo. It has become worthless. I have ATT Fiber coming out tomorrow. They have a promo for the gigabit plan for $65/mo for as long as you keep it going in here right now.
My advice, stick to Fiber because it seems T-Mobile has become in the business of making money but not caring about service provided. And it really seems like the 5G SA upgrade is actually a downgrade. And I loved my TMHI, I would rave to everyone. I even have a friend who lives a few suburbs away who got it a few months after me, loved it but also recently got the 5G SA update and is also having nothing but issues ever since.
And I'm a person who thinks even that maybe they want us promo/grandfathered customers to leave b/c they don't make money off us. But it shouldn't be this way.

If any of your work connections require IP address whitelisting, TMHI is a tough choice, since it uses CGNAT and they rotate IPs constantly (multiple times per day).

I have a Double Alpha Alpha X race holster with two different insert blocks. I can use the block that fits my Czechmate for Open or Limited division, depending on how I set up my Czechmate, and use the block for my TS2 for Limited division.

I still have my old belt with my production division holster, that fits my Shadow 2, but I put my mag holders on my other belt.

Now I just need to have my TS2 and Shadow 2 slides cut for optics, and be able to do Carry Optics or Limited Optics division.

No dude you're good. It only cost as much as you want it to cost. For the first two years anytime I wanted to shoot a different gun I would just spend a half an hour switching mag pouch inserts and holsters around on the same belt. Which is perfectly fine. I just saved up enough over the last year to buy another belt and three mag pouches. But my single stack setup is all cheap stuff. The mag pouches on that belt are Krydex which is a knock off of black scorpion gear mag pouches which are super cheap to begin with. The holster is a black scorpion gear holster. But they work good enough and I don't really shoot that gun very often. I think I paid $50 for 5 mag pouches. When you first start shooting USPSA, unless you have really really bad gear, the gear isn't going to be your limiting factor. Your brain will.

Need advice: Jio Prepaid vs Postpaid Family Plan – which is more frugal?

Posted by Sudo-Coder · in r/Frugal_Ind · 9 days ago

Me and my wife both use Jio prepaid currently. Our setup: • ₹449 voice plan (validity 84 days) • ₹219 data plan (30GB for 30 days)

When I average it out, it comes to around ₹12.6/day per person → ₹25.2/day for both.

Now I’m considering switching to Jio Postpaid Family Plan (₹449 + ₹150 for add-on SIM). • With GST, the bill comes to about ₹707/month. • That’s around ₹23.5/day for both → ₹11.7/day each. • Plus, we’d get 80GB shared data instead of the 60GB we currently manage.

So on paper, postpaid looks slightly cheaper per person and gives us more data.

👉 My doubt is: Am I missing any hidden costs or frugality pitfalls with postpaid (like bill shocks, compulsory monthly payment, etc.) compared to prepaid flexibility?

Would love to hear what other frugal folks in India are doing — sticking to prepaid or moving to postpaid?

Never used postpaid, so have no idea if it can additional amount.

Note: Used chatGPT for better grammar.

Edit: My final findings and my plan.

  1. I can’t add my wife’s existing prepaid sim. I have to convert it to a standalone postpaid with 349₹+GST plan and then next month I can add it as add-on sim to my family plan, which costs more now.

  2. Im going to go with the 899₹ plan for 90 days. Which gives 2 gb per day. Comes to 9.9₹ per day.

So it will be around 20₹ per day for both of us. Hope it helps others.

Jio postpaid is more frugal in the long run . Prepaid pack validity is a factor of 28. But the postpaid Bill cycle is a factor of 30 days. Unlimited 5G is on the top. Now Jio offered Vonr calling .

If you technically analyse JIO has strong spectrum holding for smoother service of both 4G and 5G .

Give a try to jio postpaid family plan

Just convert both your numbers from prepaid to postpaid. You can manually create family plans from the Airtel app and choose the plan of your liking.

Switching from Verizon to Visible, but currently have a phone I'm paying off

Posted by Flimsy-Mud7607 · in r/Visible · 11 days ago

I have a credit from my past trade-in that is added to my bills with Verizon, and still have 17% of my current phone to pay off. Does it make sense to pay off that phone, and forego the credits from my past trade in? I'm assuming I'd lose that cuz I'd technically be switching. My bills are currently around $77/mo RN and I feel like I'm way overpaying after seeing the other posts on this sub.

Also I switched to Verizon in 2020, fully online, I've never been to a store. And it seems my inflated price is paying people that have never helped me a day in my life cuz I did it all on my own.

Do it! Pay off your phone and switch. You can get $20 off your first month with a referral code. Then you can get $6 off each month with 6off12 code.

Even if you got the visible+ pro plan($45 a month) your effective monthly payment is $37.34 a month

Verizon network prepaid

Posted by OnionMiddle5700 · in r/NoContract · 12 days ago

I just moved to a rural area and apparently T-Mobile connect doesn't work out here. The moment I leave the area and drive five minutes away it works. Which in retrospect isn't a big deal. But my text messages won't go through and I don't receive them even on rcs and connected to Wi-Fi.

Anyone have any suggestions to I guess get onto something that has Verizon as their network but prepaid.

Right now I pay $15 for unlimited, talk text and 5gb data. That's all I need.

Regular Verizon prepaid starts at $35 and it's 15gb a month unlimited talk and text. I don't need all that. Would like to stay around $15-20 a month.

Thanks.

I would try a network reset. You’ll have to re-enter your passwords for WiFi again and reconnect to previously paired Bluetooth devices but you won’t lose anything on your phone. It’s like a hard restart to your mobile service. It will ping you to the nearest tower.

Do you have WiFi calling enabled? Once that is properly setup (911 address registered on account, enabled in settings on phone) the text messages should work over WiFi.

Visible would be overkill but it's only $19/month right now for their base plan for a year.

MobileX would be $14.88 for their 10GB plan. Boom! and US Mobile would be $15/month for their 5GB plans.

If priority doesn’t matter, MobileX has the unlimited 10 plan. $14.88/mo + taxes and fees. Unlimited call/text and 10GB of deprioritized data before throttling you to 512kbps. Also has hotspot 10GB and hard capped.

Also deprioritized plan is US Mobile 5GB By the Gig plan on the “Warp” network which is Verizon. Unlimited talk/text and 5GB data hard capped. Has hotspot hard capped at 5GB too. $15/mo taxes and fees included.

If you don't need unlimited calls/texts and are ok with an annual plan Infimobile has a plan thats 2500 min and 2500 sms texts with 5gb of hard capped data for $100 a year plus tax and they use Verizon

If you are open to ATT RedPocket has an eBay plan for unlimited calls/texts with 5gb of hard capped data for $120 for the year plus sales taxes

Depending on which plan you get, you can get unlimited priority data at a fraction of the price of Verizon Postpaid & even Prepaid as well for the exact same network. Arguably with better features than Verizon Prepaid.

That would depend on how you define better.

Prepaid pros:

  • cheap
  • apart from E911 all surcharges included
  • becomes even cheaper with time via autopay and loyalty discounts
  • if on Prepaid Unlimited Plus, same level of prioritized service as Postpaid Unlimited Plus.
  • sparse free phone promos still exist, but you have to pay for the phone up front first and get credited later
  • no being “locked in” for 3 years—you have to own your phone outright so you can leave whenever, except with those free phone promos which aren’t paid out until the 6th or 12th month of service

Prepaid cons:

  • no service retainment up to 30 days past due—if you’re late on payment your line simply shuts off until you pay
  • no payment flexibility—no payment arrangements
  • no financing your phone
  • no insurance options or perks
  • all plans besides Prepaid Unlimited Plus are deprioritized service meaning you’re first in line to get throttled
  • makes no sense if you have 3-4 people on one account
  • practically zero support from stores, and customer service experience isn’t great either

Postpaid pros:

  • device financing
  • robust promos on phones, watches, tablets
  • prioritized service on Unlimited Plus/Ultimate
  • Verizon 5G/LTE/Fios Internet $15/mo discount
  • Perks for discounted subscription services like Disney, Netflix, Apple Music, Apple One, YouTube Premium, and others
  • Insurance options as low as $4.95/mo for tablets and $7.95/mo for phones
  • enhanced customer service experience
  • flexibility on past due payments, no service suspension until 30 days past due, 60 days past due with a payment arrangement
  • when you have 3+ people on the same account, monthly rates are very reasonable

Postpaid cons:

  • expensive (for one or two line plans)
  • if getting a phone on promo, locked in for 3 years if you truly want that promo paid out in full
  • Unlimited Welcome is practically identical to Prepaid Unlimited
  • surcharges and taxes are not included in the advertised prices
  • AutoPay through checking account or Verizon Credit Card is REQUIRED to get the $10/mo/line discount, no debit cards or “outside” credit cards
  • Lots of fees, especially reconnect fees. If you go without paying your bill long enough it’ll incur a reconnect fee per line, including watch lines, tablet lines, and internet lines. If you have a family plan with four phones, two tablets, a watch, and internet, and let your service get suspended, be prepared to pay $160 in reconnect fees alone, on top of late fees.

switching from postpaid to prepaid Verizon

Key Considerations for Switching from Postpaid to Prepaid Verizon:

  1. Plan Options:

    • Verizon offers various prepaid plans, including unlimited data options and plans with set data limits. Review the plans to find one that fits your usage needs.
  2. Cost Savings:

    • Prepaid plans often have lower monthly costs compared to postpaid plans. Evaluate your current bill to see how much you could save.
  3. No Credit Check:

    • Switching to prepaid means you won’t undergo a credit check, making it easier for those with less-than-perfect credit to maintain service.
  4. Device Compatibility:

    • Ensure your current device is compatible with Verizon’s prepaid network. Most Verizon postpaid devices will work, but it’s good to double-check.
  5. Account Balance:

    • When switching, you may need to pay off any remaining balance on your postpaid account. Make sure to settle any outstanding charges.
  6. Porting Your Number:

    • If you want to keep your current phone number, ensure you initiate the porting process during the switch to avoid losing your number.
  7. Data Rollover:

    • Some prepaid plans offer data rollover, allowing you to carry over unused data to the next month. Check if this feature is available.

Recommendation: Consider starting with a prepaid plan that offers unlimited talk and text, with a data allowance that matches your usage. If you find that you frequently exceed your data limit, you can always upgrade to a higher-tier plan. This flexibility allows you to adjust your plan based on your needs without being locked into a contract.
