TL;DR Verizon's unlimited plans offer a range of options with varying data limits and features. While some users find them beneficial, others express dissatisfaction due to high costs and throttling concerns. Alternatives like Visible Wireless may provide similar service at a lower cost.
Plan Options and Features
Verizon offers several unlimited data plans, each with its own set of features and limitations. The "Welcome" plan provides 2GB of data before throttling, while the "Unlimited" plan offers 50GB of high-speed data before deprioritization [1]. Users have noted that these plans can be expensive, especially when compared to other carriers like T-Mobile and AT&T
[1:6],
[1:7]. For those looking for alternatives, Visible Wireless runs on Verizon's network and offers three tiers of plans, which might be worth considering
[2:3].
Customer Sentiment
Many users express frustration with Verizon's pricing and customer service. Some feel that Verizon's plans are deliberately hostile to customers, potentially driving them to switch to other carriers [1:7]. Others mention difficulties in understanding plan details and getting clear information from customer service representatives
[2:2]. Despite these challenges, some users still prefer Verizon due to its network reliability and coverage
[1:1].
Throttling and Data Usage
Throttling is a common concern among Verizon users. The original unlimited data plans do not get throttled during congestion, which is a significant benefit for heavy data users [5:3]. However, newer plans like "Do More/Play More" may deprioritize data after 50GB, which could impact performance
[5:7]. Users who stream large amounts of data or rely heavily on hotspots might need to consider whether the potential for throttling aligns with their usage patterns
[5:4].
Alternative Carriers and MVNOs
For those seeking cheaper alternatives, Verizon MVNOs like Visible Wireless and MobileX offer unlimited data plans at lower prices [3:3]. Visible's base plan includes unlimited hotspot usage, making it an attractive option for users who need mobile internet access
[3:5]. Additionally, US Mobile has been mentioned as providing good service without throttling
[3:4].
Considerations Beyond the Discussions
When choosing a data plan, consider your specific needs such as data usage, budget, and desired features. Evaluate the benefits of premium plans against potential savings from alternative carriers. It's also important to assess the quality of customer service and network coverage in your area, as these factors can significantly impact your overall satisfaction with a carrier.
The old “Unlimited” and “Unlimited More” no more. They both have unlimited data, just deprioritized after 15GB or 30GB. They are grandfathered, and with a price increase this September: $25 for Unlimited and $40 for Unlimited More. 50% connected devices discount is still available.
The new lineup is:
At this point I feel it’s just Verizon being pure greedy.
Really? 2GB? I’ll say it - what the actual fuck.
I really wish that is a typo. But it’s not. Plus tablet cannot make regular phone calls. I really don’t know what I am paying for. Does 1GB worth $10 in 2025?
This is for stupid people that want a tablet to use on Wifi but want to pay the least amount per month to finance a tablet through Verizon. I wonder if there will be tablet promos to hook people for the new rates.
As a current rep, I can confirm all this as true. I'll tell people to just upgrade their tablet but never switch to the "better" plans...I feel so sorry for having to try BMSM with these shitty plans.
It never ends. Just when you think our job couldn’t be any harder, BOOM 💥another body blow.
The only thing saving my performance these days is I’m the SMB Advocate for my store so 25-50% of my bucket is business every month. The BYOD promos they have this week has gave me a big boost the last two days. The consumer side gets harder by the day
Edit to add I wouldn’t be surprised if they brought pull thru back as a metric now to push these expensive plans.
I share your sentiment as of late, myself. T-Mobile has definitely turned into a monster in their own right, and AT&T is just, well, AT&T. However, I must say: As a LIFELONG observer and basically a damn historian of the telecommunications industry, I have never…..and I mean NEVER…..seen a company stumble so bad, repeatedly, and continue to shoot themselves in the foot as I have with Verizon under Hans. There is stupidity and greed (see T-Mobile), general ineptitude (see AT&T), mismanagement and a cheap ass owner (see Dish/Boost Mobile). But, this shit going on at Verizon under Hans is just NEXT LEVEL. Like, Sprint status!
AT&T learned its lesson by dumping their merger crap and going back to their roots. Verizon still think it's a good thing apparently. T-mobile was and is doing good things but definitely charging for it. At least T-mobile is innovating, outside of data breaches. So customers are getting network improvement while Verizon is standing pat. However, as a long time observer myself, I see good things coming despite all this mess. One, they always had the cash to bounce back. Two, I've seen network improvements in the past year. Three, I think they may start doing better QCI vs putting everyone on one.
Still sucks though. A person can only wait so long. I'm really liking what T-mobile is doing over there. Heck, not only do they have 5G SA but VOICE over 5G SA which sounds really good. Verizon just has 5G AS. T-mobile has SAT now. Verizon has it too but not fully there yet but it's supposed to be better than T-mobiles offering when it comes down to phone efficiency or something.
I agree, HANs has tanked the company just like he did at Ericsson. T-mobile was great under John's leadership.
funny you bring up sprint. I’ve heard a fair number of people called Verizon the new sprint, but at least Sprint had somewhat confident customer service for a time and didn’t make people calling in battle an AI bought first. lol
At this point, it’s deliberately hostile to their customers. It’s almost like they want to get users off to reduce congestion and drive us away. Whoever is in charge of their retail business is going to tank this company. I’m seriously considering t-mobile after years of being a customer of VZ and prior to that ATT
The T-Mobile and att plans aren’t as good as Verizon, even after this. Don’t get suckered into the $5 tablet plan on experience beyond. No hotspot and 25gb cap, no hd streaming and then 256kbps.
Truly, this is the most out of touch company.
So damn true lmao.
Hello. I need to know which is (potentially) the best Verizon plan to switch to because I keep going over my data. Currently, I pay $65 (includes taxes/fees/discounts) for my single line. I've been on this plan forever, because it worked great and I was at home 90% of the time on my home Wi-Fi, but this plan is no longer available. Now that I'm back in the office, and they do not have trusted Wi-Fi, I've been going over my 5GB data for the past 2 months. I'm paying an extra $15-$30, depending on how much I go over. I was told that the Unlimited Plans would be my best option. I'm leery about switching because once I do, I cannot go back to my old plan. I would be stuck with an Unlimited plan, which range from $75 (Welcome Unlimited) to $100 (Unlimited Ultimate). The midlevel plan is $90 (Unlimited Plus).
Any suggestions? If I worked from home 100%, I'd stay where I am, but unfortunately that is no longer the situation.
TIA!
This stuff is go Greek to me. I’m struggling to figure out what I should do. I have three lines now (oh and a watch line). I’m paying close to $300.00 a month. We need to upgrade at least one line. When I called Verizon for pricing it was so convoluted and speaking to someone from another country with a thick accent was torture. I just said I’m done and hung up 🤨
I'm there with you! I didn't switch. I'll keep paying they overage fee until I can figure it out & make a final decision.
Ugh!
If you dont have a device promotion and okay with prepaid, Visible Wireless is a great alternative to Verizon.
3 tiers of plans. They run on Verizon's networks. You can pay annually/ monthly so you can just set and forget.
I will check them out. Thank you!
check out the r/visible subreddit for a referral code to get $20 off the second month.
Please don't if you want a good plan lol
What are the differences between Visible and Verizon? Data speed, coverage, etc.?
When you say work doesn’t have trusted wifi, you mean there’s WiFi but you do t trust it because it belongs to your employer? Maybe connect via VPN for privacy.
No, I meant it's not secure so I wouldn't connect my phone to it.
Go on plus w/ autopay. You'll pay 10 more a month but it has unlimited talk, text, Data, and a 30gig Hotspot. Data isn't deprioritized either and it gets good trade values for phones.
Don't do welcome.
I'm currently on Straight Talk with the iPhone 16e that recently got unlocked. In a few days, 2 months of service is up and I want to change to a different Verizon MVNO that has unlimited data.
Was looking at Mobile X at first with their $25 unlimited plan (199GB), but I am reading esim activation is a nightmare and that you get throttled after about 50GB usage of data which is not unlimited at all...
I was also looking at regular visible plan that is $20 (with 1 year price lock), I know they have a visible+ for $30 but I am not sure if I need prioritized data. Good thing is that visible doesn't seem to throttle you at all?
Also looked at US Mobile, it seems like it's similar to visible but throttles to 1mbps for the unlimited starter.
Is it worth trying out the free trial for mobile x and visible? Anyone who's used these have a preference? I am in So Cal if that matters. Thanks!
Where are you seeing that MobileX throttles after 50GB? It used to be 30GB but they've made it 199GB now before you get throttled to 512Kbps. Also, eSIM activation works perfectly fine if you have a strong wifi connection.
Straight Talk has prioritized data so if you want similar service to what you have now, you want a plan with prioritized data. That means Visible+ or MobileX given your needs. Visible's base plan in particular may throttle your 5G n77 to 30Mbps.
there are reports of throttling on the unlimited plan over at the mobile x subreddit
they got flagged for watching videos it seems like
I mean MobileX does throttle video to 480p on that plan but Verizon does on Unlimited Welcome too.
Keep in mind that the free trial of visible is the base plan.
Whether or not you want/need prioritized data is very much location dependent and personal choice. Note that visible plus has other perks such as higher quality video streaming and faster hotspot speeds. Also the price lock and discount for plus is longer (3 years versus 1 for base).
Yea, i noticed the visible+ has the UWB but alas, my 16e has 5G only, no UWB so I thought + was not worth it... if I had a UWB capable phone I might go for the +
For my money, Visible+ is the way to go. There's too many places where deprioritized data could suck, so getting priority + the C-Band bands are huge. That and 3 years of price lock is fantastic too.
Your 16e will connect to c-band but not mmWave. Most of Verizon’s UWB network right now is c-band with mmWave only being deployed at very specific locations.
Also base plan does connect to cband but speeds are throttled and you won’t see the UW icon on your phone.
I'm on USmobile unlimited starter (older version) and I swear I'm not throttled. When I joined I swear there was a deal where if you had X phone (I have an S22 but I think iphones also got this deal) where if you signed up for any unlimited plan, you got full Verizon no throttle and I get C band for 5g.
Visible is a good deal because of unlimited hot spot. I have been using $20 basic plan in my area it's fine but your mileage may vary.
Total maybe if you can get the 50% off promo. I’ve heard conflicting info if that is restricted to Metro and Cricket port ins.
I can't get the 50% promo because my phone is Tracfone branded and those phones are excluded from the byop discount
Something else to consider for Total is if you have FIOS you get a $15/mo bundle discount. This effectively makes my byod unlimited plan with hotspot $10/mo.
Verizon has a $20/mo unlimited Gb (first 15gb high speed), and a $15/mo 1Gb plan. I’m wondering if I can activate one of these with my iPad, then put the SIM in a smartphone and use the smartphone for everything but calling/texting.
** EDIT ** Looks like the $20/mo unlimited was a glitch earlier today. It’s now $80/mo. But this is irrelevant; I’d just like to know if this will work in a smartphone.
Where might I find this mysterious $20 data only unlimited plan?
I'm only seeing an $80 unlimited plan.
You have a link. I'm interested in the $20 plan.
See my other comment.
Google voice ???
Why not try it yourself?
I had the $15/mo tablet plan (not ipad) which was $10 a month with autopay. I did try it in my smartphone and it worked fine. It even showed my phone on the online dashboard so they were aware that I was using it. Nothing bad happened but I didn't use it much. I don't have it anymore.
I imagine they will eventually flag an account used like this and switch you over to a smartphone plan but I don't know. I don't see the big deal since you aren't using anything you haven't paid for.
Paying about $105 a month for single user with 400 mins, unlimited data, and Verizon-to-Verizon calls. I stream a lot of YouTube while driving which puts my average around 5GBs a month. Didn't know if there's anything cheaper at the moment.
Umm, Verizon's website is deceiving. I didn't realize by default the pricing was at 4 lines a plan lol. At just one line I would be paying more than my gUDP.
The original was good if you're using the data. The old plans don't get throttled down when there's congestion that's about the only benefit.
If you want to use 50-100+GB a month of hotspot, it can make sense to keep. But you would either need to pay an extra $29.99, or pick from Sony and Samsung U1 phones to avoid the hotspot charge.
Based on your data use, Do or Play more would be a better option today.
Just realized Verizon's site shows plan pricing at 4 lines by default. I thought $55 a month would be my bill but at one line it is $90 plus taxes and fees. I'm paying less right now with gUDP.
Agreed. Before I parted ways with my gUDP and 700 mins. I was upgraded to Unlimited mins out of nowhere. Those gUDP days are long gone. Happy to be on 5G GET MORE. Being able to be on full 5G UWB, and of course number share is amazing.
Nope. Definitely go with the Do More/Play More rather than get more. Both of those have 50GB of data before you could be deprioritized. I believe your current plan has 22GB before deprioritization.
The only loss would be hotspot, down from unlimited to 25GB on Do More/Play More.
No, I'm not. Wouldn't that be like adding a new line? I just remember hearing I'll lose it if I add a new line or upgrade a new phone. I've been buying new phones outright to avoid the upgrades.
Oof. Youve been able to finance phones without losing it for years. With your 5gb of usage youd be better off on play more or do more anyway
Nope, Do/Play More deprioritizes after 50GB, Get More is unlimited premium network access. No penalty if you go over, only real way to incur extra costs is international stuff.
I know this is an older thread, but I’m on an older unlimited plan with people in my family who refuse to get off the unlimited plan. They buy phones outright and now that I need a new phone, I’m forced to do the same or get off their plan onto my own because they refuse to get off the unlimited. They keep talking about the “throttling” and how they refuse to be “throttled” but everything I’m reading says it’s not that bad. Is it really?
And you get Disney+ package, Apple Arcade or google game service and Apple Music included with the data and voice
You don’t get $20 with Play and Do… all unlimited 3.0 and 4.0 plans are the same $10/line discount up to 5 lines.
I had to switch due to financial stress of a $93 per month phone bill. It wasn’t worth it anymore. Visible offering such an amazing plan like Visible+ Pro is godly. I have truly unlimited priority data on Verizon, unlimited hotspot, 4K UHD video, and got to keep my number. I’m happy to be part of the family!
Good to hear! I changed over from Verizon to Visible and cut my bill down from around $130 a month to the $45 plan.
Did the same thing but switched to the Pro plan, I was looking at that $93 bill and felt it wasn't justifiable. Seeing this $35 bill is so nice.
How’d you get it to $35?
The new visible plus plan is $35 a month down from $45 a month. The new visible plus pro plan is $45 a month. If you go annual though the visible plus plan is now $375 a year and the visible plus pro plan is $450 per year.
I am going to be switching to the new visible plus plan once my annual plan runs out for the original visible Plus plan.
Yes it is. Plus service is So much better!
Visible is a great option if you want Verizon coverage on the cheap
Recently switched T-Mobile as well (about 3 weeks now?) Visible on trial then went to Visible + and have had zero problems since. The savings and the great service was worth the switch for sure!
I left TMO Go5g plus last November to Visible+ annual plan iPhone 13 promo, I was paying $93 for 1 phone line and a watch and paid $390 for the Visible+ annual plan with free watch and I got a free iPhone 13 as well. TMO charges $15 for a watch line, this is insane! One the Visible Pro came out last April, I upgraded and paid $36 prorated. I won't lie, T-Mobile coverage and speeds here in south California is way better than Verizon, I used to get 1gbs in most parts where I live and now I get 300mbs (still great and useful) , I only get 1gbs in one spot very close to the Verizon tower. T-Mobile coverage is also better, 2 months ago my phone went SOS in the middle of downtown Los Angeles and it goes on SOS for a while on the Imperial county highway. Other than that Visible works just fine and the new unlimited premium data plans are unbeatable at this time.
My wife and I have the “All new Verizon Unlimited Plan”, which isn’t really new. We have had it for 4-5 years or so?
It’s $160/month now, seems they went up 4$ a month after taxes for our two phones. Just prompted me to check if we should move to one of the other plans? I believe we get 22gb per phone before we get limited. We use like 40-80GB a month. Is there any deals? We own our phones and just buy them outright. We have no interest in buying new phone currently.
I am using visible by Verizon right now. It’s not bad for the price ($30 per month). You get a 5G and although sometimes it’s a bit slow for a few seconds (happens around once or twice a week), it works well for me most of the time. If you decided to give it a try you can use my referral code (you will get $20 off the first month and I will get $20 off for one month, which means you will get to pay only $10 for your first month). It’s give and take 😎
The code is 3P72SLB
If you need more info about joining Visible, checkout this page: https://www.visible.com/get/?3P72SLB
You don’t need to use the above link to join Visible if you are wary of clicking unknown links due to the probability of getting scammed. Just look up Visible by Verizon, and if you decided that you want to give it a try just use my code (3P72SLB) at checkout.
Switch to a newer plan. You could have both lines on Play More unlimited for $70 each $140 total with auto pay. You would gain 5gUW access, 50 gb priority data per phone line, 25gb hotspot per line, and a paid subscription to the Disney + bundle (Disney, Hulu, and ESPN +). I know you said you don't need a new phone now, but when you do the deals will be far superior if you are on this plan.
hmmm that plan is $90 a month is seems?
For one line without auto pay it is.
It's $90 for 1 line without auto pay.
Ahhh, I see it, I was just looking at it on a browser and I see it as 70$. I see it comes with Hulu, Disney ESPN bundle, do you know if that’s the ad free version?
It's not ad free for Hulu.
Same speeds, no big difference, just $48 dollars savings. I had the ultimate plan from Verizon, paying $88 a month after making the switch .Why pay double price if I can pay less. Same service. Only difference is 1TB unlimited data compared to 450gb with visible.
It’s not the same service. I can assure you. I have both visible and Verizon postpaid. The Verizon postpaid plan is consistently faster and with fewer lags, especially when in and around somewhat congested locations and hours
I think you are somewhat correct, but it mostly depends on the area you live. I have had both Pro and Ultimate and in my case they were identical in terms of speeds, not in terms of coverage though, as you mentioned Visible lags a lot in coverage compared to Verizon post paid plan and that's why I decided going back to T-Mobile, at the end I'm paying actually less with T-Mobile than I would pay with Visible Pro for $40 and getting all the perks out of pocket, plusy coverage is much better where I live and speeds are similar, Visible (Verizon) wins when it comes to indoors coverage for sure.
I have my dads phone (he passed away a few weeks ago) which is on an unthrottled Post Paid Plan, my current phone is on an always throttled Post Paid Plan then my old phone is on Visible, Visible seams to be pretty close to matching the post paid, but I only have a day of testing to compare so far.
I haven't had Verizon in a long time, but when I test Visible next to my sister's Verizon she may get 600mbs down when my visible gets 400mbs down. I am completely fine with a consistent 50mbs anywhere I go and Visible usually gives me 200mbs around the areas I frequent.
It's not the exact same, but more than enough.
This will probably be an unpopular opinion, but even if it is a throttle after 450GB, That's great for 99.9% of us. We are nowhere near the point where anyone should be approaching that on a phone. I don't even use wifi at home and barely hit 60GB right now. That's with hotspotting a lot when out on the road.
fully agree, unless i'm using a mobile hotspot for my home internet service I will never hit 450GB in any month.
I did the math… if I’m not mistaken these companies end up making $1000+ profit off you if you stay in the 24 month cycle of paying your phone with “free credits” 😂
I feel like I'm seeing that too as I have both a post paid verizon and visible phone on me at the moment as I test if Visible is where I will be switching to.
Verizon has phone installment credits for 36 months now. $48 savings over 36 months is $1728. That is almost the price of 2 phones.
Pretty insane how much single line plans from the big 3 rip off the consumer.
No doubt you can save money with visible. It's really not much though. Even with the numbers they provide, subtract $1000 for the phone, interest free loan $100. You save $628 over 3 years, $17 a month. With that you don't have access to the same services, Verizon retail locations and add ons. Im currently w/ spectrum mobile and my wife has visible. We have decided to switch back to Verizon. I've compared and we will be paying about the same
“Free phone” that you’re paying $65-95 a month on cell phone service to get on a 3 year contract.
I had Visible+ and Verizon Post Paid on the same phone and got identical service. I've done this several times and always got the same service. The only difference was no service in a partner roaming area where Visible doesn't work. Enough convincing that I'd have no problem switching except:
The wording bugs me the most The start unlimited plan, which is the go unlimited without it’s useless 600kbs = 0.4mbs hotspot, words it self as unlimited 4g lte plan. Unless it’s like we all know busy. But that right there means it’s not unlimited 4g lte speeds. Premium data is what they mean by 4g lte speeds.
I’m just tired of all carriers selling data plans and adding safety mode on and calling it unlimited. 50 gig plan with a chance of unlimited maybe on a good day type of plan.
Eh it still is unlimited. The data is unlimited, the speeds are not. They never guarantee the speeds (no carrier will because they can vary widely). Not to mention the Go plan is pretty much deprioritized 100% of the time. It is terrible and all but unusable in areas with a decent amount of people.
Verizon go slow unlimited.
As long as there are capacity issues, there should always be metering. If it was a free for all, everyone’s experience would suffer.
How many gb are in the unlimited data for phones?
Unlimited high speed data is the answer to your question. Priority data is a different thing. At $25/mo it’s a steal. For $10 extra, UHD video streaming.
If u have more money, high end TMO includes QCI 6 Priority data, but again, that’s not about the truly Unlimited high speed data u inquired about.
After 35Gb you shouldn’t notice a difference unless you’re in a highly populated area like a major city or at a concert. For me the only times I’ve ever noticed a difference was when I’d be in midtown Manhattan between like 8am-5pm when all the office buildings are filled with people and a ton or tourists are out and about.
35gb of priority(qci7) and deprioritized(qci9) after
Who gets qci8?
Tmobile doesnt use qci8 for mobile phone plans only hotspot.
Verizon and att use qci 8 which is highest priority on consumer plans minus first net which i believe gets qci6 and qci7 is att turbo. 8 is prioritized data and 9 is deprioritized
Unlimted
Guess I never had to look. I know I have an old account. 2 phone lines, unlimited everything, Amazon prime and Google 1. Paying $60 a month. I have gotten over 28 GB, but never had any notifications of excessive data usage.
Verizon unlimited data plans review
Key Considerations for Verizon Unlimited Data Plans:
Plan Options: Verizon offers several unlimited plans, including:
Pricing: Plans typically range from around $70 to $90 per month for a single line, with discounts available for multiple lines. Always check for promotions or bundles.
Network Performance: Verizon is known for its extensive coverage and reliable network performance, often ranking high in speed and reliability compared to competitors.
Data Deprioritization: During times of network congestion, Verizon may deprioritize data for users on unlimited plans, which can affect speeds.
Additional Features: Some plans include perks like Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ subscriptions, as well as 5G access, which can enhance the value of the plan.
Recommendation: If you frequently stream video or use your phone for work, the Get More Unlimited plan may be worth the investment for its additional features and higher mobile hotspot data. However, if you primarily use your phone for basic tasks, the Start Unlimited plan could be a more cost-effective choice. Always assess your usage habits to determine the best fit for your needs.
