Popular Themes in Young Adult Literature
Recent discussions highlight the popularity of fantasy and emotional connection in young adult literature. Books like "часодеи" (Chasodei) and "Wolfhound" by Maria Semyonova are favored for their engaging fantasy worlds and strong character connections [3:2]. These themes continue to resonate with readers, suggesting that upcoming releases may also focus on intricate world-building and deep emotional narratives.
Recommendations for Russian Fantasy
For those interested in Russian fantasy, "Дарители" and works by Лия Арден, such as "Мара и Морок," are recommended [3:4]

Nostalgia and Rediscovery
Discussions about older young adult books, such as "The Palace of Laughter" and "Neptune's Children," show a trend towards nostalgia and rediscovery [1:1]

Hi! I've been trying to find this book I listened to on tape as a kid, probably around early/mid 2010s. It was about a boy who had a younger sister with cancer, I think leukemia but I'm not positive. They went to an amusement park with their parents. At some point, all of the adults disappeared. It wasn't from a natural disaster, all I remember is they all disappeared. This left the kids to fend for themselves. The kids left in the park ended up developing societies in each themed section of the park, and the book followed them as they got older. I've tried looking it up but can't find anything that includes a girl with cancer or parents disappearing. Thank you for any suggestions in advance.
Neptune's Children by Bonnie Dobkin?
"He probably couldn't have done even that, except for his little sister Madeleine.
The trip to the park had been his family's special present to her. Maddie had been battling leukemia since she was four, enduring endless treatments, from chemo to radiation to bone marrow replacement."
I really loved часодеи when I was younger and listened to it again recently and loved it. Looking for similar books I can read / listen to, I'd be really happy if you can share some of your favourites that are similar.
Wolfhound (and other books) by Maria Semyonova. I loved them as a teen

I really loved Дарители when I was younger!
"Мара и Морок" is very popular (Лия Арден in general)
I remember reading this book in 2018. I remember it being fiction and potentially having a snowglobe on the cover of the book or notably within the storyline. What I can remember about the plot is that the book follows the main character of a young girl, who’s best friend (which I believe was named Danny) passed away. I dont know if he was sick but he passed. Got it from my middle school library, very age appropriate. Thats all I know. Thanks!
I vaguely remember bridge to terabithia having something like two best friends and main character death in the plot
Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin has a snow globe on the cover, but in this book the FMC dies, is sent to an island called “Elsewhere” and learns about a type of reincarnation (I don’t want to give too much away).
You can go to the used book market near the Aivazovsky statue and ask them. If they don't have it they can probably get it.
Condolences to Tyler Young, his teammate slept with his mother and now he has to go to work everyday with the man.
Bronny James 🤝🏾 Tyler Young
Sounds like a John Terry saga.
They saw the Peterborough manager choose not to bring him on against his dad last season and decided they'd simply play them together, I respect it.
I mean they could still be boning.
Ashley Young and Ashley Younger
Young Jr
Imagine he went to Young Boys frfr
That would be insanely hilarious no 🧢
"Young striker Tyler Young" sounds too funny
He has time. Hes still Young
The curious incident of the dog in the night time?
I'm afraid that this is a low traffic sub, though I do occasionally see a request answered, and that I'm unfamiliar with the book you're seeking. You'd be better off asking for recommendations in r/booksuggestions (though read the rules first) and r/suggestmeabook, and for the title of a book or story in r/whatsthatbook and r/tipofmytongue. (Also, IMHO it would probably be good to try one sub, then the next, not multiple subs simultaneously.) If you do get an answer for an identification request, it would be helpful if you edit your OP with the answer so we can see what it is in the preview, and that your question has been answered/solved (an excellent example: "Child psychic reveals abilities by flunking psychic test too precisely" (r/whatsthatbook; 5 August 2023)). For what you should include in your identification requests, see:
Note that the members of that sub, including the moderators, have been sticklers for having this followed. (Following this list is a good idea for all identification requests, not just for this sub or for books.)
Good luck!

Besides the wonderful Scheana Shay's book, what is the other book to read for the upcoming book-sesh? Thank you!
Thanks for the information- I also say this: https://www.bklynlibrary.org/calendar/molly-jong-fast-discusses-central-library-dweck-20251022-0700pm
How to Lose Your Mother by Molly Jong-Fast
Thank you!!!
I read this book from my elementary school library sometime between 2010 and 2012, but it could be older than that. I could be wrong but I think the book at a green color to it. In the book, I think the boy is probably between 12 and 16, and I can't remember his name. I think he takes a trip to visit his grandpa or uncle who lives maybe on an Island or somewhere tropical (maybe Central or South America). If I recall correctly, he is a bit of a stick in the mud about it.
At some point, him and I think a friend he meets while there end up on this crazy adventure. It's not Jumanji, and I',m honestly not remembering how they get there, but It definitely had that vibe about it. It was jungle-y and I would say indiana jones adjacent type of adventure. I think there's a scene where they are rafting down a choppy river, too.
I know it's not a lot to go off of. I just had a flashback to it, and I remember really loving that book when I was younger. I don't think it was super popular necessarily either, but it was good.
Also, it's definitely not Percy Jackson. Google keeps recommending that, but I like Percy Jackson, I know it's not that.
Any ideas would be great!
*** Edit not sure this helps but I think there may also have been a pyramid or temple on the cover or at least involved in the story.
Is it the first Jaguar Stones book, Middleworld by J&P Voelkel?
You’re a miracle worker. It’s totally that! I thought for certain it was a lost cause! Thank you! thank you! thank you! How did you know? Nothing I googled even came close!
I'm gonna be honest, I never actually finished this book lol but I do own it from when I was younger. But all I remembered was jungle-y and like rafting over a river, so I checked the synopsis and it matched well enough. I'm stoked I was right!!

This sounds really close to a book series I read but instead of books it’s artifacts and it’s a family. The series was called 13 clues and was such a good teen read if you wanted something similar 😉
